Mumbai is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The name Mumbai is derived from the name of the patron or kuldevata goddess Mumbadevi of the native Koli community. Marathi Language is the mother tongue of the Koli people and the official language of Maharashtra.

Mumbai is an important region of the country, since the ancient times. The port of Mumbai was a location for many traders and merchants then and today, this City of Dreams has attracted people from various parts of the Indian States & World. The city is also home to Bollywood and Marathi cinema industries.

Mumbai is the financial, commercial and the entertainment capital of India. It is also one of the world's top ten centre of commerce in terms of global financial flow, generating India's GDP and accounting for industrial output, maritime trade in India (Mumbai Port Trust and JNPT) and capital transactions to India's economy. Mumbai has many billionaires of any city in the world.

The city houses important financial institutions and the corporate headquarters of numerous Indian companies and multinational corporations. It is also home to some of India's premier scientific and nuclear institutes. Mumbai's business opportunities attract migrants from all over India. Recent estimates of the economy of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region is estimated to more than 500$ billion ranking it either the most or second-most productive metro area of India. Many of India's numerous big companies like Larsen & Toubro, State Bank of India, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Tata Group, Godrej and Reliance and five of the Fortune Global 500 companies are based in Mumbai. The architecture of the city is a blend of Gothic Revival, Indo-Saracenic, Art Deco, and other contemporary styles. Most of the buildings during the British period, such as the Victoria Terminus and Bombay University, were built in Gothic Revival style. Mumbai has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Elephanta Caves and the Victorian and Art Deco Ensemble. In the south of Mumbai, there are colonial-era buildings and Soviet-style offices. In the east are factories and some slums. 2. TARAPOREWALA AQUARIUM:

Taraporewala Aquarium is India's oldest aquarium and one of the city's main attractions. It hosts marine and freshwater fishes. The aquarium is located on Marine Drive in Mumbai. It is liked by kids and a lot of so it’s a mind reliving.

3. CHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ VASTU SANGRAHALAYA, (FORMERLY PRINCE OF WALES MUSEUM) :

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, formerly know as Prince of Wales Museum of Western India, is a museum in Mumbai which documents the history of India from prehistoric to modern times. It is located in the heart of South Mumbai near the Gateway of India. The building is built in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture, incorporating elements of other styles of architecture like the Mughal, Maratha and Jain. The museum building is surrounded by a garden of palm trees and formal flower beds.

4. GATEWAY OF INDIA :

The Gateway of India is an arch-monument built in the early twentieth century in the city of Mumbai, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The gateway is also the monument from where the last British troops left India in 1948, following Indian independence. It is located on the waterfront at an angle, opposite the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel and overlooks the Arabian Sea. The gateway is amongst the prime tourist attractions in Mumbai. It is a regular gathering place for locals, street vendors, and photographers.

5. vEERMATA JIJABAI BHONSALE UDYAN, ALSO KNOWN AS THE BYCULLA ZOO AND FORMERLY VICTORIA GARDENS, IS A ZOO :

Veermata Jijabai Bhonsale Udyan, also known as the Byculla Zoo and formerly Victoria Gardens, is a zoo and garden covering 50 acres located at Byculla, in the heart of Mumbai, India. It is the oldest public garden in Mumbai after Indian independence was named after Jijamata, the mother of Shivaji, the first Maratha emperor.

6. BANDSTAND PROMENADE :

The Bandstand Promenade, also known as Bandra Bandstand is a 1.2 kilometer long walkway along the sea on the western coast of Mumbai, India in the neighborhood of Bandra. It is simultaneously a popular hangout spot, a jogging track and a park. Towards the Land's End side of the promenade is an amphitheater. It serves as a venue for the Mumbai Festival, Celebrate Bandra and other events. The 'Artist's Court' is another performance venue built into the promenade that witnesses public Jam sessions on Sundays.

7. JUHU BEACH :

Juhu Chaupati and Juhu beach is the same. This beach is best visited on weekend afternoons and evenings evening with family, by friend and couples, it comes alive with children's rides, carnival-like amusements and food stands. The food stall serves so many delicious food like Pavbhaji, Chowmein, Pizza, Pani-puri, Sevpuri, papri Chat, Ragda Patti, falooda, Gola, sweet (Meetha) Pan and many more.

8. KANHERI CAVES :

The Kanheri Caves are a group of caves and rock-cut monuments cut into a massive basalt outcrop in the forests of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, on the former island of Salsette in the western outskirts of Mumbai, India. They contain Buddhist sculptures and relief carvings, paintings and inscriptions, dating from the 1st century CE to the 10th century CE. Kanheri comes from the Sanskrit Krishnagiri, which means Black Mountain.

9. GLOBAL VIPASANA PAGODA :

The Global Vipassana Pagoda is a Meditation dome hall with a capacity to seat around 8,000 Vipassana meditators (the largest such meditation hall in the world) near Gorai, north-west of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Simple and quite place. Should be visited at least once.

10. ESSEL WORLD / WATER KINGDOM :

Esselworld and Water Kingdom together make one of Asia's largest amusement parks. They expand over an area of 64 acres and are frequented by locals and non-locals from all age groups, especially kids. You can reach from Gorai & Borivali.

11. SANJAY GANDHI NATIONAL PARK, BETTER KNOWN AS "BORIVALI NATIONAL PARK" :

Sanjay Gandhi National Park is a 87 km² protected area in Mumbai, Maharashtra State in India. It was established in 1996 with headquarters at Borivali. It is notable as one of the major national parks existing within a metropolis limit and is one of the most visited parks in the world.

12. HANGING GARDEN :

The Hanging Gardens, in Mumbai, also known as Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens, are terraced gardens perched at the top of Malabar Hill, on its western side, just opposite the Kamala Nehru Park. They provide sunset views over the Arabian Sea and feature numerous hedges carved into the shapes of animals. The Boot house is the most entertaining spot of kids.

13. ELEPHANTA CAVES :

Elephanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a collection of cave temples predominantly dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. They are on Elephanta Island, or Gharapuri (literally "the city of caves"), in Mumbai Harbor, 10 kilometres east of Mumbai in the Indian state of Maharashtra. There is boat service from Gateway of India daily.

14. NEHRU PLANETARIUM :

Nehru Planetarium is a huge dome-shaped building which was established in 1977 and inaugurated by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Located in Worli in Mumbai, the building was designed by J.M. Kadri, one of the prominent architects of India. The building later became immensely popular among the astronomers, space aspirants and children in Mumbai.

1. SIDDHIVINAYAK TEMPLE :

The Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shri Ganesh. It is located in Prabhadevi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was originally built by Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patil on 19 November 1801. It is one of the richest temples in India.

2. HAJI ALI DARGAH :

The Haji Ali Dargah is a mosque and dargah or the monument of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari located on an islet off the coast of Worli in the southern Mumbai. An exquisite example of Indo-Islamic Architecture, associated with legends about doomed lovers, the dargah contains the tomb of Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. Bukhari was a Sufi saint and a wealthy merchant from Uzbekistan. Near the heart of the city proper, the dargah is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Mumbai.

3. MOUNT MARY CHURCH:

Mount Mary Church – Bandra. About Mount Mary Church –The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount, more commonly known as Mount Mary Church, is a Roman Catholic Basilica located in Bandra, Mumbai. As the name suggests, it is dedicated to the Mother of Christ and in September, the festival of the Virgin Mother culminates in a week long fair, popularly known as Bandra Fair, which has all the excitement of a small carnival. Stalls sell sticky Goan sweets and wax idols of the Virgin along with an assortment of candles shaped like hands, feet and various other parts of the body. The sick and suffering choose one that corresponds to their ailment and light it in Church, with the pious hope that Mother Mary will consider their appeals for help.

4. MUMBA DEVI TEMPLE :

Mumba Devi Temple is one of the most ancient temples situated in Mumbai and was built in the 18th century. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Mumbadevi. Tourists from all over the world make sure to visit this sacred temple while in Mumbai. The name Mumbai is derived from Mumba Devi.

5. ISKCON :

ISKCON Temple, Mumbai officially known as Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari ji Temple is a temple in Juhu area in Mumbai in India. It is set upon four acres of land and a stone throw away from Juhu Beach. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder-acharya of ISKCON, inspired the construction of one of India's most beautiful temple of Lord Krishna in Mumbai. The temple is visited by thousands of people and devotees during festive.

VADA PAV

Vada pav, is a vegetarian fast food dish native to the state of Maharashtra. The dish consists of a deep fried potato dumpling placed inside a bread bun sliced almost in half through the middle. It is generally accompanied with one or more chutneys. Although it originated as cheap street food in Mumbai, it is now served in food stalls and restaurants across India.

POHA - BREAKFAST SPECIAL

Poha is an easy, delicious and healthy breakfast recipe, popular in Maharashtra. Made with onions, potatoes and seasoning like chillies, crushed peanuts, lemon and curry leaves make up a tasty and easy meal of Poha, especially when you don't feel like cooking. It is a very light and a refreshing breakfast dish.

MISAL PAV

Misal pav is a popular dish from Maharashtra, India. It consists of misal (a spicy curry usually made from moth beans) and pav. The final dish is topped with farsan or sev, onions, lemon and coriander. It is usually served with bread or rolls toasted with butter and buttermilk or dahi and papad. It is served as a breakfast dish, as a snack and also as a full meal.

PURAN POLI

Food is the ultimate spirit of any festive occasion and the popular Maharashtra dish puran poli defines the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi and other festive occasions like Diwali. It is an easy recipe of flat bread stuffed with a sweet lentil filling made from Chana dal and sugar. You can use Bengal gram and jaggery too. In Marathi language, the sweet filling is called puran and the outer bread is the poli. It is a delicious side dish with rich flavors yet extremely easy and quick to make.

SOL KADI

Sol Kadi is a drink which is made with tangy kokum and coconut milk. Sol kadi is known to cool down the digestive system after eating spicy food. Kokum itself is supposed to be an excellent antidote for acidity. This is a famous drink from Maharashtra's Konkan region.

MUMBAI DABBAWALAS:

The dabbawalas also called tiffin walas constitute a lunchbox delivery and return system that delivers hot lunches from homes and restaurants to people at work in India, especially in Mumbai. The lunchboxes are picked up in the late morning, delivered predominantly using bicycles and railway trains, and returned empty in the afternoon. They are also used by meal suppliers in Mumbai, who pay them to ferry lunchboxes with ready-cooked meals from central kitchens to customers and back.

DHARAVI SLUM:

Dharavi is a locality in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, considered to be one of Asia's largest slums. Dharavi has an area of just over 2.1 square kilometres and a population of about 1,000,000. Dharavi is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. Dharavi has an active informal economy in which numerous household enterprises employ many of the slum residents. Leather, textiles and pottery products are among the goods made inside Dharavi. The total annual turnover has been estimated at over US$1 billion.

BOMBAY DUCK(BOMBIL):

The origin of the term "Bombay duck" is uncertain .But when the British introduced the railway system to western India under their Raj, Bombay duck started going in wagonloads to the interior from Bombay. The crates stank of dried fish...They were marked 'Bombay Dak', literally 'Bombay Mail'. At the time, the railway was run by whites. Of course Bombil is not actually a duck; it is in fact, a very fleshy fish, and it is found only in the waters around Mumbai and Bay of Bengal. Mumbai has always had a bit of a love affair with the Bombay duck, and it is an especial favourite of the Parsis and Goans.

In Ramayana, Ravana was the King of Lanka also called Lankeshwar. It was believed that Ravana had a palace made of gold and had a Flying Chariot which could carry infinite number of people with it. All of this looked so magical ,Which made me curious to visit Srilanka and to see if any of this was for real. Srilanka is a beautiful country as it is surrounded with water and is country surrounded with Flora & Fauna.

Ceylon name was given to Sri Lanka by British. After independence to give Ceylon the identity of native individuals, it was named as Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is an island country in South Asia, located in the Indian Ocean southwest of the Bay of Bengal and southeast of the Arabian Sea. Sri Lanka is known as, Pearl of the Indian Ocean is given to this small island nation probably due to its incredible natural beauty, extraordinary biodiversity as well as its precious gemstones. Besides, the island has a tear drop shape and is off the coast of India, which is easier to see from the map.

Sri Lanka’s tropical climate, sandy beaches and incredible cuisine are just among the many reasons to include this beautiful South Asian country on your travel bucket list. VISIT VISA:

A Visit Visa is an entry permit signifying the consent of the Sri Lankan Government for the admission of a foreign national to the country. The Visa contains details of the period of time and the conditions of the stay.

There are two sub-categories which come under visit visas:-

1. Tourist Visit Visa

A Tourist Visa is issued to bona-fide tourists who want to enter Sri Lanka for sightseeing, excursions, relaxation, visit relatives or yoga training for a short period of time.

2. Business Purpose Visa

A Business Purpose Visa is issued to foreign nationals who visit Sri Lanka for business purposes for short period of time. This visa may be issued for single or double journeys.

CONDITIONS OF VISA:

You should not engage in any form of employment, paid or unpaid, or in any trade or business other than that specified in the visa during the period of your stay in Sri Lanka.
Your visa must be utilized before the date of expiry noted on the visa.
Validity of your visa is subject to entry into Sri Lanka during the indicated entry period.
Applications for the extension of all visas should be made to the Department of Immigration.

COLOMBO

The name 'Colombo', first introduced by the Portuguese, is believed to be derived from the classical Sinhala name Kolon thota, meaning "port on the river Kelani". COLOMBO Is the commercial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka by population. It is the financial centre of the island and a tourist destination. Colombo is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life, colonial buildings and monuments.

KADUWELA

Kaduwela means it was the location of a shrine of the goddess Pattini, linked to a golden sword used in the 'water cutting' ritual. The shrine is called the Purana Rankadu Pattini Maha Devale (ancient great shrine of the golden-sword Pattini). In another possibility Kaduwela simply means the jungle paddy field. Kaduwela is a suburb of Colombo in the Colombo District, Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is located about 16 km (9.9 mi) from Colombo city centre on the Colombo

MAHARAGAMA

Maharagama is a town in Colombo District, Sri Lanka on the High-Level Road about 10 km from the centre of the commercial capital. It developed rapidly in the 1980s as a dormitory suburb.

KESBEWA

Kesbewa is a town in Sri Lanka, situated at south of Colombo. It is one of the relatively more populated suburbs located in the Colombo District of the Western Province. This town has extensive population and rapid industrialization and urbanization in recent years. It is home to Sri Lanka's National Zoological Gardens, which remains one of Asia's largest.

DEHIWALA

Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia is the largest suburb of the City of Colombo and covers an extent of 2109 hectares. Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipality area is a multi-religious, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural city. This town has extensive population and rapid industrialization and urbanization in recent years. It is home to Sri Lanka's National Zoological Gardens, which remains one of Asia's largest.

MORATUWA

Moratuwa is a large suburb of Colombo, on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka, near Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia. Moratuwa is surrounded on three sides by water, except in the north of the city, by the Indian Ocean on the west, the Bolgoda Lake on the east and the Moratu River on the south.

NEGOMBO

Negombo is a major city in Sri Lanka, situated on the west coast and at the mouth of the Negombo Lagoon, in Western Province, 38 km from Colombo via Colombo - Katunayake Expressway. Negombo is known for its long sandy beaches and centuries old fishing industry. Negombo has a large bilingual (Sinhala/Tamil) population with a clear Roman Catholic majority.

SRI JAYAWARDENEPURA KOTTE

Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, commonly known as Kotte is the official administrative capital of Sri Lanka. Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte is a satellite city and located within the urban area of Sri Lanka's de facto economic, executive, and judicial capital, Colombo.

KALMUNAI

Kalmunai Is the largest city of Ampara District. It is also the largest city of Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. It is one of the few Muslim-majority municipalities in the country. Kalmunai was the site of the royal farm. The city is bounded on the east by the Indian Ocean on the north by the Periyaneelavanai village and on the south by Karaitivu village which is considered to be a suburb of the city.

KANDY

Kandy is a major city in Sri Lanka located in the Central Province. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and is also the capital of the Central Province. Kandy is the home of the Temple of the Tooth Relic one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. Kandy is a Sinhalese majority city; there are sizable communities belonging to other ethnic groups, such as Moors and Tamils. The city remains an important religious centre of the Sinhalese and a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists, namely those belonging to the Theravada school.

Vesak Poya (7th May ):

Vesak is known as the festival of light, a very appropriate name since almost all the decorations are in the form of illuminations. Young and old alike offer flowers and light oil lamps, with many observing sil all day. Buddhists in Sri Lanka spend the Vesak Poya day engaged in meditation and meritorious deeds, as it is considered appropriate to make a special effort to assist those in need and bring happiness to others during one’s lifetime. Instead Buddhists endeavor to pay homage to Lord Buddha by decorating Temples, creating beautiful decorations depicting scenes from His life and offering prayers of worship.

Kataragama Perahera Festival (26th - 27th July):

The Perahera festival is an interesting and colorful event. Pilgrims come from all over Sri Lanka to participate, and there are few foreign tourists. A temporary shopping bazaar pops up next to the temple, and people come to bathe and splash in the river. Mahouts can be seen scrubbing down their elephants. Katharagama is very important place to visit any month of the year, but especially in Peraehera. Recommended to visit there and to get a historical, traditional and religious experiences.

Duruthu Perahera (10th - 11th January ):

Marking the beginning of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist Calendar, the Duruthu Perahera is one of the most culturally glorious processions celebrated by devotees annually during the month of January (Duruthu). The main festivities are organized at the historic Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya (Temple) annually during the pre-full moon poya day in January to mark the first visit of Lord Buddha to Sri Lanka.

Poson Festival (5th June 2020):

The festival is held in early June, coinciding with the June full moon. Poson full-moon poya day is celebrated the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC, a festival of great historical and religious significance celebrated island-wide by Buddhists The day is celebrated at temples around the island, but the biggest festivals go to Mihintale, where the Buddhist emissary Mahinda converted King Devanampiya in 247 BC, developing Buddhism as the national faith of the Sinhalese.

Nallur Festival (August-September):

Nallur festival is one of the longest festivals in Sri Lanka which usually runs for about 25 days. Every year the festival starts in August and will ceremonially ends in September. Thousands of devotees will attend various pooja ceremonies followed by a procession. This colorful festival includes many vibrant processions including rhythmic drumming, dancing and acts of self-mortification etc.

KOTTU:

It resembles fried rice, except instead of rice, it's made with a type of roti known as godamba roti (a flat, crispy bread) ,vegetables, oil, spices and egg/chicken .

The roti is normally fried at the beginning of the day, piled into stacks and served as it's ordered. When you place an order, the kottu chef will fry and chop the roti with a selection of ingredients you choose. It is the equivalent of a cheeseburger in America and Pad Thai in Thailand. Fast, tasty, cheap and greasy! Each chef had their own flavor twist.

PARIPPU:

Parippu, or dal curry, is the most common curry in all of Sri Lankan cuisine, a staple in any restaurant or household. Masoor dal (split red lentils) are first rinsed and boiled until soft.

In a separate pan, a number of fresh ingredients, such as onions, tomatoes and fresh green chilies, are sautéed and mixed with tempered spices like cumin seeds, turmeric, fenugreek, mustard seeds and curry leaves.

All the ingredients are combined and usually thickened with a splash of fresh coconut milk to give the dal a rich flavor and creamy texture.

APPAM:

The batter is made from a slightly fermented of rice flour, coconut milk, sometimes coconut water and a hint of sugar.

A ladle of batter is fried in a small wok and swirled around to even it out. Appam can be sweet or savory, but one of the local favorites is Egg Appam.

POLOS (JACK-FRUIT CURRY):

The traditional polos is prepared with the young unripe jack fruit. The fruit is sliced into bite-sized chunks and boiled until soft. It’s then cooked with onions, garlic, ginger and spices like mustard seeds, turmeric, chili powder, roasted curry powder, pandan leaves and curry leaf sprigs. The final step is to add coconut milk and simmer to reduce most of the liquid, leaving all the beautiful flavors within the cubes of jackfruit. The spices get easily absorbed by the fruit and hence the whole dish is filled with beautiful flavorful spices.

HELAPA:

Helapa is a traditional Sri Lankan sweet treat. It's prepared with a combination of kurakkan flour, rice flour, treacle, cardamom, and grated coconut. The ingredients are cooked together and mixed until they develop a doughy consistency. The mixture is then flattened on kanda leaves, which are folded and steamed until the dough firms up. Before serving, the leaves just need to be unwrapped and helapa

SAGO PUDDING:

You have to soak sago in some warm water for about three to four hours. Take a large pan and caramelize the sugar over medium heat until you find that it turns light brown. Now very gently, add half a cup of water. When the water starts boiling, you have to add the soaked sago. Make sure you add the water in which the seeds were soaked. Let the sago boil and after that lower the heat. Allow it to simmer gradually.

Keep stirring for about ten to fifteen so that the pudding becomes thick. Now add a quarter cup of ghee, saffron, rose water, and cardamom. Mix everything well. Finally garnish with chopped almonds.

CEYLON TEA:

Ceylon name was given to Sri Lanka by British. This Tea has always been famous. It is an easy Sri Lanka Souvenir to pick for those who do not appreciate some fine tea. You can visit the tea gardens in central Sri Lanka, visit the tea factories and choose your tea flavor.

STRASBOURG:

BHUTAN - "The Land of Thunder Dragon"

Bhutan is the only carbon negative country in the world, which means that it absorbs more carbon dioxide than it produces. Bhutan is famous for monasteries, dzongs along with the charming beauty of landscapes that enchants your soul which constitutes of subtropical plains in addition to precipitous mountains and valleys. The name 'Bhutan' appears to derive from the Sanskrit 'Bhotant' meaning 'the end of Tibet' or from 'Bhu-uttan' meaning 'high land'. Bhutan is a unique country both culturally and environmentally. Perched high in the Himalaya, it is the world’s last remaining Buddhist Kingdom. It has developed the philosophy of Gross National Happiness; where development is measured using a holistic approach of well-being, not just based on gross domestic product. The official religion in Bhutan is Vajrayana Buddhism. Bhutan is a Buddhist country by constitution and Buddhism play a vital role in the country. Dzongkha is the national language of Bhutan. The capital and largest city in the kingdom is, Thimphu.

Buddhism is the cultural heritage of Bhutan and its people's identity as well. The traditional attire for men and women known as Gho and Kira. It is mandatory to wear the national dress of Bhutan to schools, government buildings or on any formal occasion. This way, Bhutan tries to preserve and promote its traditional values.
It is still termed as a third world country with subsistence farming practiced in much of Bhutan. In broad terms, the land is fertile and the population small. In addition, the current generation receives free education, and all citizens have access to free, although rudimentary, medical care. The sale of tobacco products is banned and smoking in public areas is an offense punished with fines.

Major sources of income for the kingdom are tourism, hydroelectric power and agriculture.

Bhutan is predominantly Buddhist with Dzongkha as a national language and a common dress code and architectural style. Bhutanese currency is Ngultrum (Nu.) and is officially pegged to the Indian Rupee (Rs.). Also Indian Rupee is acceptable all over Bhutan, except Rs 500 and Rs 2000 currency notes.

   The national animal of Bhutan is “Takin”, a goat-antelope. It is endemic to Bhutan and feeds on leaves, grass and bamboo shoots. This fact about Bhutan makes it a country that cherishes animals. Bhutanese are not allowed to kill any animals or birds. They take environmental conservation pretty seriously. However, they do eat meat, quite a lot. This law comes from the traditional values of Buddhist teachings, which prohibits the killing of any living organism. All the meat is imported from other countries. Recently, the government has been thinking of banning its consumption altogether.
   The Government has taken necessary steps to ensure free health and educational facilities for all. Since, a majority of the population, practices Buddhism, which teaches love and compassion, the crime rates are very low. Lets check on other things Bhutan has to provide to its visitors,

BHUTAN HAS FOUR SEASONS:

·     Spring (March, April and May),

·     Summer (June, July and August),

· Every visitors visiting to Bhutan requires a tourist visa. Exception are India and Bangladesh passports holders.

· Visas are only issued to tourists whom booked tour packages with local tour operators, directly or through a foreign travel agent.

· With the exception of visitors from India, Bangladesh and Maldives, all other visitors travelling to Bhutan need a visa. Tourists visiting the museum will get an opportunity to learn about the unique Bhutanese history with its rich holding of various creative traditions and disciplines.

6. JOMOLHARI:

Jomolhari Trek is the most popular trekking routes in Bhutan. Bhutan’s highest mountain (7,320 m) it offers a wide range of landscapes, fauna and flora. Jomolhari is sacred and was the home of goddesses, a female protector goddesses (Jomo) of Bhutan and Tibet. The trek is very adventurous as we pass through majestic and beautiful valleys, across fast-flowing, glacier-fed rivers on wooden plank bridges. A must do trek.

7. JIGME DORJI NATIONAL PARK:

Jigme Dorji National Park the Jigme Dorji National Park named after the late King Jigme Dorji Wang chuck is in the running for UNESCO inclusion. It also happens to be the largest national park in Bhutan. In the park we can find endangered species of Bhutan takin, snow leopard, clouded leopard, Bengal tiger, bharal or Himalayan blue sheep, black musk deer, Himalayan black bear, red panda, Ussuri dhole, and spotted linsang. It is also home to the Indian leopard, Himalayan serow, sambar, barking deer, Himalayan goral, Himalayan marmot, Himalayan pika, and more than 300 species of birds. It is also the only park in Bhutan where the national animal (takin), flower (blue poppy), bird (raven) and tree (cypress) exist together.

9. TASHICHHO DZONG :

A popular fortress set on the edge of the city’s border, this monastery is a delight to watch as it is set on the western banks of River Wang Chu.

This is one of the famous Dzong in the country and regarded as the largest landmark of Thimphu. The dzong is situated 2 km away from the actual town and holds huge importance as it is the main secretariat and its houses are the office of the throne room and the King as well. Bhutan Royal Manas National Park is Bhutan's oldest national park, and the Royal government considers it the "conservation showpiece of the Kingdom" and a "genetic depository" for valuable plants. Royal Manas National Park is home to Bengal tigers, elephants, gaur, as well as rarer golden langur, pygmy hog, hispid hare, and Ganges river dolphin. It is also the only Bhutanese park inhabited by the one-horned rhinoceros and wild water buffalo. Hundreds of species of birds also live in the vast park.

13. DOCHULA PASS:

Dochula Pass is a beautiful pass consisting of 108 Chortens or Stupas, built in the memory of the Bhutanese soldiers who died in a war against the insurgents from India. The beautifully built temple and stupas, with the picturesque Gangkar Puensum peak in the background, makes the Dochula Pass one of the best tourist places in Bhutan. In just three and a half decades the travel industry became the main source of income. Tourism is also the country’s biggest foreign currency earner and the single largest contributor to the GDP. For many centuries the Maldivian economy was entirely dependent on fishing and other marine products. Fishing remains the main occupation of the people and the government gives priority to the fisheries sector. The Maldives is an Islamic country. The local Languages spoken is Dhivehi but as the literacy level is good in Maldives majority of localities follow English language too. The Currency of Maldives is Maldivian Rufiyaa.

The best time to visit the Maldives is from November to April. The Maldives tropical climate has a wet season from May to November, followed by a dry season, the driest months of which are February and March. This is also the sunniest time. As it is common in tropical areas, the rains mostly occur in the form of short and intense downpour or thunderstorm. The Maldives is in the equatorial belt and therefore severe storms are rare.

5. THINADHOO

Thinadhoo is the capital of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and the proposed capital for the Upper South Province of the Maldives. It has its own dialect of Dhivehi which is considerably different from northern and mid-Maldivian speech.

6. NAIFARU

It is the capital and most populous island of Lhaviyani Atoll. Fishing is still a major income generator for the island, although working in resort islands has gained popularity among the youth in the last few years. Naifaru has shops and markets that serve the island population as well the atoll population. There are two passenger boats operating between Naifaru and the capital Male; it takes about nine hours on the sea in order to reach the destination. A passenger boat from Dhaalu atoll travels between Naifaru and Male.

7. HINNAVARU

Hinnavaru is one of the inhabited islands of Lhaviyani Atoll. Hinnavaru is the second most populous island in the Lhaviyani Atoll.

8. DHUVAAFARU

Dhuvaafaru is an inhabited island of Maldives located in the eastern edge of Raa Atoll. The island name of Dhuvaafaru is literally translated as "running reef". It is suggested that this name may have been derived from the ever-shifting shape of the island’s beach in different monsoons. Even today the shape of the beach and shoreline keeps changing consistently, especially during the rainy season.

9. DHIDHDHOO

Dhidhdhoo is the capital of Haa Alif Atoll in the Maldives. Being the capital, Dhidhdhoo is home to the largest population and is the economic trade hub of Haa Alif Atoll.

10. GAN

Gan is the southernmost island of Addu Atoll. The origin of the word" Gan" is in the Sanskrit word "Grama", meaning "village". Gan has now a hotel catering for tourists and is connected by causeways to the neighboring islands. ANDHRA MEAL:

PULIHORA

(Puli means tangy in Telugu):

Pulihora is a popular rice dish from Andhra cuisine. The "PULIHORA" is prepared with tamarind cooked in oil and mixed with cooked rice along with peanuts, spices and curry leaves. It remains fresh till two days. So, many South Indian travelers carry the prepared tamarind rice at the time of long journeys.

AVAKAAYA (Cut Mango Pickle):

South Indians are known to have a deep attachment to these spicy pickles. Aavakaaya pickles are usually made in the summer, this being the time for peak availability of green mangoes. The process of preparation, storage and serving is considered almost a ritual. It is prepared with Green mango pieces, chili powder, mustard powder, fenugreek seeds, salt and sesame oil. It is best served with Ghee and Dal (Pappu).

CHEPALA PULUSU (Fish Curry) :

Sea food is highly preferred in Andhra Pradesh as it is situated on the coast. There are two main rivers namely, Krishna and Godavari that flow through the state. The coast of the state extends along the Bay of Bengal. A traditional south Indian Andhra style fish curry made using fish pieces and tamarind extract. It is a very popular fish curry commonly called as fish pulusu in Andhra. ‘Pulusu’ is basically a tamarind based gravy. You should try Pulasa Fish – The fresh water fish of Andhra Pradesh. Scientific name spelled Elish, is a popular fish to eat among the people of Andhra Pradesh.

GONGURA MASAM:

Gongura means Sorrel Leaves in English & Pitwaa / Ambadi Bhaji in Hindi and MASAM means meat. These leaves helps to aid digestion and temper the effects of rich foods, to treat liver problems and for throat and mouth ulcers. It is traditionally used to treat scurvy and chronic skin conditions, and to lower fevers. Preparations of this curry is done by meat cooked with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, chilies, cumin, coriander, ginger, garlic and onions to make curry and add Gongura to it so it gives us meat cooked with sour leafy vegetable. Healthy and Delicious.(THIS IS SEASONAL FOOD)

BIRYANI:

The most famous food of Andhra Pradesh. Aromatic rice cooked with large pieces of Mutton or Chicken coupled with spices for long time in a tightly shut vessel. Also if you get to Aruku valley or Paipikondalu you can find biryani cooked in Bamboo shoots.

KAKINADA KAAJA:

Kakinada Khaja is a sweet delicacy originated from the city of Kakinada. It resembles a closed Tube. It is a major famous sweet in entire south India. Refined wheat flour, sugar, and edible oils are the chief ingredients of Khaja. A village named Tapeswaram is near the city of Kakinada which is also famous for another Khaja recipe known as Madatha Khaja.

KALLU (PALM WINE):

Palm wine, known also as toddy, is an alcoholic beverage created from the sap of various species of palm tree such as the Palmyra. Palm wine production by small holders and individual farmers may promote conservation as palm trees become a source of regular household income that may economically be worth more than the value of timber sold. There are two main types of kallu in states of Andhra Pradesh, namely Thadi Kallu and Eetha Kallu. Eetha Kallu is very sweet and less intoxicating, whereas Thati Kallu is stronger and is highly intoxicating. The leaves are used for thatching, mats, baskets, fans, hats, umbrellas, and as writing material.

HANDLOOM SAREES:

Andhra Pradesh is renowned for its exotic handlooms & sarees since ancient times. The handloom sarees of Andhra Pradesh are well known for their rich 'pallous'. The borders of the sarees are adorned with thread work and mostly these threads are made of either gold or silver. Mostly these handloom works are named after the place where these are made. Across India, we have magnificent landscapes for trekking experiences suitable to a solo traveler or a group of frequent travelers. The trekking trails through the mountain range, tropical rain forests, ragged hills and green valleys. Trekking in India is a great way to merely experience the natural beauty of the country specially watching Animals feeding on the greens, listen the birds chime, the water flowing and bounty of breathable oxygen all around us all natural which being a very good experience for those beauty appreciator and peace seekers. As I merely stay in a city, I feel so good when I am on a trek as it is a complete different scenario, just feel like heaven in the forest’s and hills, Off course I don’t say city life is bad but do try to make an escape to the forest, hills and mountains depending on the climate conditions, you can feel the difference and will be charmed by nature.

In India I see many people trekking in the rainy season in the desolate forest, Himalayans & Other mountain range in winters and rainy too. But it is said to travel incessantly in a social group, being merely for safety reasons it is better to hike with a small group of competent people. That in a peculiar way if someone is injured, one stays with the helpless victim, while the other two get help. No one is ever alone that way. Trekking also need strength and physical stamina which can be attained by doing Yoga.

Yoga is an outstanding activity for developing the strength, quick wittedness, and flexibility that you need for trek. It is important to stretch before and after trek. Though, it seems like you may just be using your legs, trekking works your entire body. The great thing about Trekking is that the more you hike the stronger you become. Trekking is after all great to increase fitness, lose weight and reduce stress.

New backpackers would desperately want to know several peculiar things before they tackle long-distance trail such as what kind of back pack and other useful items required on the enjoyable trek:

1. Before properly starting you trekking, carefully prepare a "trip plan" at let willing people know where you are going and the basics of your trek. Make sure you wisely leave a copy of your trip plan with someone back home. Willingly this person passively awaits your possible return and is responsible enough to call for further assistance.

2. BAG PACKS: For a day trek we need at least 20-35 liters of bag / for multi-day bag packs (3-5 days) we need 50-70 liters of bags / for more than 5 days we need 80-110 liters or more bags, as we need to carry extra water, food, clothing, and also other items which has to always carry for a day trek or for how long you may plan.

4. FOOD FOR TREK: The best foods to take on a trek are those that provide ample energy and help you feel full without weighing you down depending on the number of days :

Dried fruits
Coffee & Tea Bags
Chocolates / Nuts.

5. CLOTHES TO CARRY ON TREK: While on a trek it is suggested to wear more of Polyester clothes rather than cotton as they dry quick, but for sure it’s not known for its durability. Avoid cotton and denim clothes in trek as they also increase the weight of your bag and take a lot of time to dry off. Keep your bag pack light as possible.

6. TYPE OF SHOE FOR TREK: This is the most important thing in your trek. The best trekking shoes are all adaptable. We need shoes which can be used in any weather conditions.

A good shoe with a lot of groves is a good to go.
Look for softness and flexibility of shoe sole
The shoe should have a good ankle support
Check for shoe size a bit bigger as it give space for your feet.
It should be Water Resistance but not completely Water proof.
One of the best Brands for trek shoes in India are Timberland/ Columbia/Woodland/ Quechua/ Wildcraft.

Invest in the best shoe as a painful feet can ruin a Trek.

7. TREKKING POLE’s are very helpful and provide better balance, especially over slippery surfaces, like when crossing streams, over loose rocks, etc. Also having the trekking pole help’s you fight with scary predators if encountered in the trek. The length of a normal trekking pole is maximum 140 cm and the length is adjustable. And when not in trek you can shorten it and carry with you in your trek bag hassle-free.

8. If you are planning to stay for night or more it’s better to carry a SLEEPING BAGS which can keep you warm and give you a good sleep after a tiring trek. Always use a mat below your sleeping bag and put your cotton socks while sleeping it will keep you warm.

9. On a trek carrying 3-4 bottle with you would be a bit difficult and make your bag heavy. But if you are on mountain trek you need to get yourself a Hydration pack, a hydration pack is basically a bag of water built into the pack. It has a drinking tube which is kind of like a long straw which allows the person carrying it to easily have a drink of water. As there won’t be shop’s between the treks to get water bottle, so this is the best option for the whole day trip, to keep your body hydrated and reduce some weight of bottle on the go. You can get some water bottle’s with you in the vehicle you are travelling and fill it near the trek start as five liters is good enough for a day trek.

10. And when you are on a trek and encounter wild animals it is better to be aware of every step you take and always keep a check on your surroundings, keep talking loudly, avoid earphones. Also always be in group as normally animals never attack a group of people and even if they try to attack on you do not run, just fight back or keep throwing stone so that it goes away. But do not provoke the animals, they are aggressive only if you bother it.

We have 22 known languages in India, all have different traditions, customs and the food of each state has its type of food depending on the cultural and climatic conditions. In India we can experience the mountains at the north, desert on the west, a lot of vegetation in the east and greenery and sea surrounded on the south of India. India is also known for its varieties of spices.

If you have not wayfared India, this is the time to know about the divine beauty of India more deeply. Living during COVID-19 and missing out on going on trips due to fear of contracting the virus can be a very sad feeling.

Being at home is the safest place to be at this moment of Pandemic, as there is no proper vaccine for the COVID-19 virus yet.
