Navigation Improvements

In Phase One, we are doing some navigation improvements. We're trying to make it simple for all our visitors to get around our website with ease. This is a slow process so please bear with us. We will not be removing any of our handmade gifts or books.
In Phase two, we will be setting up our system so that all will just need to click on a photo of any item, and be taken to a details page. We will also be adding a PayPal Payments Pland to many more of our higher priced item (we now have some of our products listed with Payment Plans). You DO NOT have to have a PayPal Account to participate in our Payment Plan, all you'll need is a Credit Card/Debit Card (and you won't be asked to fill out any PayPal Account Forms, unless you choose to do so). You'll be offered four convient payments (four weeks).
Your feedback on our improvements would be greatly appreciated. You can leave you comments here or on our site.

How Do You Figure Out What To Charge For Your Art Work?

That is the million dollar question! How do you charge for your art work? Well that depends a many factors:-) First being where do you sell your work? Do you sell online exclusively? If you do, then you'll need to figure out the cost of supplies, the venue (website, blog, Esty, etc....). Then you'll need to figure in where you get your supplies from? Do you drive around to different shops/stores (as we all know gas is expensive!). Do you buy all your supplies online, or do both? Then you'll have to add in other expenses, (if your business is online, exclusively) such as online security fees, email hosting fees, advertising fees, etc. Last but defenitely not least, is your time. I have to say right here and now, if you charged an hourly fee for your time, your prices would be too high and NO ONE would buy your art! Then on the other hand...... don't sell yourself short either! You don't have to look far, there is always someone out there looking to take advantage of you. So with all this, you can say there is a lot to think about when your trying to price your art.
A friend of mine in the art business, told me that she adds up the cost of her supplies then she multiplies that times two and if that's not enough then she multiplies that times three and so on and so forth. There's more to it than that. As a business owner/seller of art, it is the touhest thing you'll ever have to do, but once you get it down, you'll have to start all over again, when prices on the world market fluctuate. Like the economy has been doing and probably will continue to be doing for awhile. Buyers really have to want what your selling, to buy it (I'm defiantly NOT telling you to base your prices on what you think buyers want to spend. That never works!) It's a cold hard fact "MONEY IS TIGHT!" I don't mean to sound like the bearer of doom, but that's the cold hard facts, and also you still need to buy quality products, so you'll need to find your supplies at a lower price (sometime nearly impossible).
I owned a physical business, I've done art/craft shows, and I have an online business. If you asked me which one I like the best or which one is the easiest to handle financially, I'd say it's my online business. With that being said, having an online business takes a huge about of time. I work about 12-13 hour days, and most of that is in front of my computer. If you don't like being at the computer most of the day, then having your business online isn't for you. My break time is when I'm designing and creating my pieces. With the rest of my time (what's left) I eat, sleep, hang out with my friends and family.
You need to be really committed to own and operate any business, and you don't have to be a math whiz to figure out your prices, you just have to sit down and give it your undivided attention. Grab a note pad and a pencil, pull up a chair and start figuring out your prices. If your heart is in it, keep blugging!

I'm a mother of a 30 year old daughter who is an exceptional writer and author, and a almost 7 year old grandson (We call him "D" online), who is the love of my life:-) I'm a retired Child Daycare Administrator of 25 years. I love to cook, bake, eat, hangout with my husband and my sweet boy D, and my friends (on and off line). I also love to meet new people. I enjoy starting (and most of the time finishing) new projects. I always have something in the works:-) If someone offered to give me one wish, I would say that I want 48 hour days. I never have enough time to do everything I want to do! I also enjoy blogging (questionable at the moment), participating in and administrating new groups, setting up websites (I'm on my third, one I deleted after working on it for a whole year. I must be crazy!), and being on a variety of social sites (believe it or not, Marketing is one of my favorite things to do). I also love talking to and interacting with people (you would never know that I was a painfully shy kid), for me it's the best thing about being online:-) You don't have to look very far to find me, JewelsDesigns.org is all over the place:-) My passion at the moment is jewelry making and embellishment invention, and the list goes on...... I just invented a line of components called Ice De Cristal, mostly flowers coated and sealed with Mod Podge & ICE Resin (you can find them on my site). Soon I will be working on a new invention, called Ice De Cristal Beads, you're not going to believe what these beads are made out of! LOL It's a secret, so don't tell anybody;-)
I've been honing my skills for the past 41+ years, and I've tried my hand at many different things, including everything from, painting seascapes to Intarsia Crochet (charted crochet, one of my favorite things to do), to Steampunk Jewelry (I also invented a line called Madame Steampunk Jewelry, a tribute to the hard working women of the past).
I'm easy to get along with and really enjoy the differences as well as the sameness in people. It gives me great joy to help my fellow artists, for the most part, by offering them spots on two of my website venues; The Feature Artist of the Month and The Artist Spotlight (everyone is welcome to apply to have their work published on these two venues) I also plan on adding a Featured Guest spot on my two blogs (in the near future). I think I'm a generous, loving, caring person, that's been burned many times in the past. I've had to learn how to pick and choose my friends, which was very hard for me. All in all life is good and I'm doing what I was always meant to do, my art and sharing it with millions of people. I still love all my adopted babies (who are adults with their own babies! Hard to believe) that I've had in my care over the years, but my heart is where it belongs:-)

I can not believe it! I somehow earased my other blog? It's been a really crazy day and I don't think it's over yet! I did have another blog on blogger with over 400 views. It was all set up nicely with all my links, but now it's gone:-( What a depressing first post! LOL Ok enough is enough, time to get down to business and create a new blog. Hopefully I'll have better things to say in my hundreds of furure blog! LOL
