First and foremost, I am sorry I haven't been updating my blog! I have been really busy, but have managed to find the time today!!! :D

Today I will be reviewing one of Whoo's famous product, Hwanyugo Essence, from the Hwanyugo line. Just a note: I have used this product for more than 3 months - day and night!!! This product is definitely an investment if you want to achieve flawless skin. The price tag will really make you turn away, but in all honest opinion, this product is worth it! In South Korea, the Hwanyugo Essence is much cheaper than in North America - here it costs over $500, but in South Korea it is around $300 - not bad at all!!! The Hwanyugo Cream is way to expensive, and for 60ml (which is a lot), I decided to purchase the essence - since I had no essence at the time. This review will be long haha so please bare with me! :)

The star product is Hwanyugo (purple series). Limited in production due to scarcity of its medicinal ingredients like the Snow Lotus, 35-year-old Wild Ginseng, Asparagus, Siberian Young Antlers, Dongchunghacho and 60 other herbal ingredients. The Hwanyugo line by The History of Whoo is a masterpiece for skin that works to rejuvenate its appearance by ten years. This premium line is marked by its excellent quality, artistic philosophy, craftsmanship and scarcity. The products are created through the finest, dedicated research each step of the way.

What is Serion Germanium?

Serion is an invention patented in Korea and is made by a special scientific method that uses rare earth elements of Selenium and Germanium. Review: The History of Whoo Hwanyugo Essence is an essence targeted for fine, deep and stubborn wrinkles - guarantees to make skin look 10 years younger - very alluring hehe :P. The texture is very rich. You can see the germanium particles when observed closely (like silver dust) - and when you rub the product against your fingers (about a pea size), it really heats up. There is NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING artificial about this product. From the scent, to the texture - everything feels luxurious. I was sold with this product - this really is a luxury item! When you apply the product onto your face, make sure to massage gently, then lift your face outwards. This product really sinks into the skin, without any stickiness - and it plumps up your skin immediately. I applied this product even around my eyes and neck. My laugh lines and fine lines around my eyes disappeared! The scent is very pleasant and VERY FAINT - the scent of lotus and herbs is very soothing to the mind and is not overpowering like other Whoo products. After using the Hwanyugo Essence for 3 months, and still going - I have noticed that my face has remained plumped, and it is not temporary. The texture of my skin is VERY SMOOTH and there is a healthy radiance to the skin which the whitening products did not produce. I cannot stress enough that many Korean skin care products are targeted to TREAT the skin - so the results are longer and may be permanent if you take good care of your skin. THIS PRODUCT WORKS!!!

I would recommend this product for anyone really - prevention is key in anti-aging, and for those who are concerned with wrinkles, this product will not disappoint. If you have dry skin, this essence is VERY moisturizing and hydrating to the skin. If you have oily skin, I recommend using this essence at night only - and do not apply a lot of the product - about half a pea-size. Never forget to warm up the product to activate the ingredients!!! But please be reasonable - this product is really expensive, and if you don't have it in your budget, don't buy it - unless you wish to order from South Korea, which is much cheaper! :) Nonetheless, you do pay for what you get. I was a bit skeptical with this product at first (even though I am in love with The History of Whoo products)- but you have to allow this product to work and treat the skin for at least a month until you see full results. Do not miss use it either (use according to instructions): warm up the product with your middle finger, and massage gently around the face. Dab the remaining around the eyes - and begin with lifting techniques (I have a diagram in my Nok Yong review). Then warm up both palms and wrap your face (inhale and exhale in a relaxed state) - then wrap your neck and lift your neck upwards gently - trust me, these techniques make a difference!!! Unfortunately the ingredients were written in Korean - but I will be visiting The History of Whoo and will ask them for the ingredient list (hopefully they let me take a picture of it!!!) :).

Directions/Usage: Cleanse the face well. Squeeze out some of the product and gently apply it to your face. Softly massage the area, leaving a thick layer of the product. Once complete, wait 10 minutes. Rinse face with warm water first, then with lukewarm water.

Review: I absolutely love this pack because it is MOISTURE-RICH! At first, you may be shocked at how rich this product is – but it has definitely done wonders to my skin. This pack is recommended for drier skin types. I have normal skin, and found that it is fine. As for oilier skin types, this may cause some milia – so it is best advised you don’t use this product (unless you test it out first!!!). Velvet Deer Antlers is one of the main medicinal ingredients used in all of The History of Whoo products – it is heavily concentrated in the famous Hwanyugo line. This ingredient helps with blood circulation, collagen synthesis, metabolism, and providing oxygen to the skin – therefore, skin becomes stronger and resilient (youthful). The other main ingredient is Royal Jelly – this helps with deep moisturizing and hydrating the skin to make it plump.

The colour of this product is grayish-brownish – and the scent is floral/herbal – it is VERY soothing, which I love! At first, I found it hard to work with. The reason being is because it is rather thick, and does not spread easily – what I figured out was you REALLY NEED to warm it between your fingers, and then apply it to your face. There is a special technique, which I have provided above, to use this product. You need to circulate the blood on your skin and massage thoroughly – don’t worry though, once the pack is warmed up (you will also feel the warming of the product on the skin, its wonderful!), it is really easy to massage the face without tugging and pulling!!! After your done massaging, relax your face for ten minutes or more if you wish, and wash with lukewarm water and start your regular skin care routine :). After having my face washed, my skin was ultra smooth and soft. It did not leave ANY RESIDUE whatsoever - but glowing skin. This pack should be used at least once or twice a week, depending on how much hydration you need!!! I highly recommend this product for those with dry/dehydrated skin, need extra moisture, or those who wish to treat themselves hehe! :)

Scientifically, Laminaria digitata constituents are calcium, potassium, iodine, mannitol, as well as fat, protein, carbohydrates and vitamins E, C, B12, B6, B3, B, A and Zn, F, Cr, Co, Mn, I, Na, Fe, P, Mg, K, Ca. The mineral salts and especially iodine stimulate the general metabolism and cause an increase in osmotic exchanges, thus bringing about elimination of excess fluids.

~Oyster Shell~

Usually the shell is discarded, however, it is rich in enzymes, vitamins and mineral substances mainly calcium to help revitalize the skin. The oyster shell extract helps to provide cellular metabolism within the skin, thus leading to brighter more clear skin. Through metabolism, your skin will deeply regenerate and rebuild the epidermis to make it stronger. Therefore, results of a firmer, and lifted face are achieved.

Review: The importance of clay-masks helps absorb impurities deep within your skin. Kaolin is the second ingredient – it is a natural clay substance that cleanses the skin and unclogs pores so your skin becomes smoother and softer. The color of this wash-off mask is light green, and is VERY EASY to apply to the skin. The consistency is very soft, and is not messy like other clay masks I have tried before!!! You leave this mask on for 30 minutes, until it is fully DRY and then you wash it off gently with lukewarm water. You can feel a tingle with this product, but it is definitely not harsh! The scent is almost like an ‘ocean’ scent – very calming. I love how super soft my skin feels – and bumps are less noticeable. You can definitely tell that this really cleanses deep within your pores. I made sure to do a close up to see whether it stands by its description – and yes it does!!! Products are easily absorbed into the skin – and it leaves no residue whatsoever. Comparing this to peel-off-masks, if you want something less harsh (for those of you who find peel-off masks difficult to work with), this is a buy (or any other clay mask you prefer). Just remember NEVER EVER apply this around your eye area and lip area, please! It will cause damage!!! I highly recommend this treatment mask for those with oily or troubled skin. I used this on my dry cheeks, and found no problems! A great way to treat your skin hehe! :)

Review: The History of Whoo Seol Whitening Cream (upgraded) and The History of Whoo Whitening Sun Cream

Hello my fellow readers! I am extremely sorry I have been so busy with my absence in reviewing! I have been busy and still am – but I figured it is time to write a review post :) Today I will be reviewing the new two items upgraded from The History of Whoo Seol Whitening line: The History of Whoo Whitening Cream + The History of Whoo Whitening Sun Cream.

Just to update: The new Whitening Sun Cream has arrived in North America – I visited The History of Whoo counter and they had it! I will ask the price once I go and visit once again, which is soon!

The new Whitening Cream is almost like a gel-type consistency – somewhat like the Soo Yeon Cream, but a mixture of gel + cream. It is water-based as well (it feels very cooling to the face – almost like applying water to your skin) – so does that mean it’s hydrating now? I find that it is for my normal skin. I use to apply the Qi&Jin Cream over the older Whitening Cream, but now I find that the new Whitening Cream is much more hydrating than the older version – so that is a plus!

Upgrade: The History of Whoo Seol Whitening Cream (50ml)

~Comparison from the older version to the new upgraded version~

I have to be completely honest though – the results are definitely not the same as the older version. There were some amazing dramatic whitening effects with the older Whoo Whitening Cream; the new upgraded Whitening Cream only helps keep skin brightened and radiant (which is nothing to complain about LOL but I missed the whitening effects!). Although it keeps skin dewy, it is not as soft and powdery-feel as the older version. The new whitening cream absorbs instantly into the skin – but it still keeps skin hydrated. Just to point out, comparing this to the Sulwhasoo Snowise Whitening Cream – both are different too. The new Whoo Whitening Cream keeps skin looking dewy, while the Snowise Whitening Cream kept skin matte (if you like the matte look (for really oily skin types), you still get the same results from Sulwhasoo Snowise Whitening Cream if you decide not to use the Whoo Whitening Cream). So basically, using the new Whoo Whitening Cream for 4 weeks, I see the same results as Su:m37 White Award line, and Sulwhasoo Snowise Whitening line – miss the whitening effects, powdery, and super soft feel!

As for the color – it is a clear/light-greyish color – I don’t think color is even added in the new Whitening Cream (the ingredients are in Korean – I will get them translated! Its so difficult haha). There is one good thing though – the scent is barely noticeable – it’s very faint and light! Its almost herby - but also floral - if you actually concentrate on the scent, there is a hint of a lavender scent, its lovely!

New: The History of Whoo Whitening Sun Cream SPF 45++ (45ml)

I was very surprised when I opened this sunscreen – I didn’t expect it to have a light pinkish tint to it. It is ALMOST similar to the Laneige Sunblock Triple SPF 40++ - but not 100%. The Laneige Sunblock Triple feels very chalky, and it is VERY DIFFICULT to spread on the face – you almost look like a ghost with the Laneige Sunblock. With the Laneige Sunblock I would have to add a little bit of oil (olive oil/grape seed) in order for it to blend on my skin - and this was even during the summer season! Although it brightens the face, it can be extreme to the point of making you look like a ghost - a good thing about this product is that it has fine-powdered pearls haha. The benefit of the Whoo Whitening Sun Cream is that is spreads evenly, brightens the skin to appear VERY NATURAL, and keeps skin dewy, and is great for oily skin! The pink is barely noticeable on your skin, it absorbs instantly which I love! The scent is not as heavy as the other Whoo products – I believe they changed the scent for the Seol Whitening line to be less heavy. Regardless, this sun cream is fantastic!!! Keeps skin soft, dewy, and BRIGHT!

With experiencing the new Whoo Whitening Cream – I won’t say I’m disappointed because it is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the older version. But the results are not the same, that’s for sure! Although it still keeps skin bright and glowy, I still prefer the older version!!! :) As for the Whoo Whitening Sun Cream – I would definitely recommend it, it’s a great sunscreen that not only protects skin from UVA/UVB rays, but makes skin bright and more even-toned!!

Su:m37˚ is another great, all natural, paraben/color/preservative/fragrance free luxury skin care line – with the use of bio-fermentation technology. My friend in Seoul, South Korea actually introduced this line to me last year. However, Joseibi and Hope In A Blog (favourite blogs!!!), have done reviews on Su:m37˚ and have loved it! Being an admirer for natural skin care, I decided to give Su:m37˚ a go! I purchased the Su:m37˚ Skin Saver Ocean Effect Cleansing Foam (its an amazing foam cleanser!) – which came with a mini sample set of the White Award line (also a sample of the famous Secret Programming Essence). I have been using the White Award line since February, and surprisingly it has lasted me to this day (only been using it at night though)!

Review: LOVE this toner! It is so refreshing to the skin– does not make skin dry, but somewhat hydrating. I would say that the Whoo Seol Whitening Skin Balancer was a tad bit more hydrating. This toner is clear and has no scent, which is a big plus for me! As a toner, I find it does the job great because as the description states, it really helps to absorb the other products into my skin. I also find that this toner helps to reduce bumps and other annoying blemishes on the skin. Love it!

Su:m37˚ White Award Luminous Treatment

Description: This treatment acts to effectively remove skin blemishes and signs of aging for clean and glowing skin, as it instantly makes your skin shine brightly.

Review: This treatment (essence) is great in keeping the skin VERY BRIGHT. Compared to Sulwhasoo’s Snowise Whitening Serum, this treatment takes a lot of time to absorb into the skin. I don’t mind though, but those of you in a rush, keep this for nighttime use as I have done! Similar to Whoo’s Whitening Essence, this treatment also has these glitter-like particles – now I am not sure what it is, could be pearl particles – because it does not sit on the skin, rather when massaged thoroughly, the particles sinks into the skin. And it is definitely not mica either (since mica stays on top of the skin to artificially illuminate the skin). Regardless, I love this treatment because it really brightens the skin – gives you the GLOW!

Su:m37˚ White Award Essence Lotion

Description: Natural plant extracts penetrate deep within the skin to make the skin appear as transparent and offers a fresh and smooth touch to skin.

Review: In all honesty, I have never had a lotion keep my skin dewy, even after washing my skin several times. This is my top recommendation!!! It is a somewhat thick, yet runny white product – it absorbs instantly into the skin though. Keeps skin VERY DEWY and GLOWY. For those of you that wear make-up, this would be a great base for your make-up – keeps skin baby soft feeling and looking!

Su:m37˚ White Award Detox Mask

Description: A 3-in-1 mask: [Brightening, Deep Pore Cleansing, & Soothing Effects] Microscopic bubbles form deep inside the pores as it lifts the waste and pollutants and features an anti-stress & clean skin.

Review: At first, I was completely lost in how to use this mask haha. I used this mask once a week because I only had a 10ml version of it (If your skin needs treatment, then 2-3 times use is preferred - it will not cause any harm to your skin). It is a cream-textured product; it is somewhat sticky but blends easily on the skin. You apply this all over the face and wait for a few seconds until your face becomes FOAMY. It is quite amusing, and it tingles towards the end when the foam starts to disappear, so don’t scratch your face hehe! You then wash it off and your skin will appear brighter and VERY SMOOTH – it also helps absorb your products better!!!

Su:m37˚ Secret Programming Essence

Review: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS ESSENCE! The best treatment your skin can have!!! The minute you apply this essence, your skin feels SO DEWY – there is something definitely with Su:m37˚ products that makes skin dewy and smooth. It is a clear essence (this natural plant scent – not strong at all, you can barely smell it), somewhat watery and sticky when applied. You gently pat this onto your skin, and press firmly to help penetrate the essence into the skin. A very hydrating essence!!! It has definitely refined my skin and has helped my skin from becoming dry. I highly recommend this product for those with dry dehydrated skin – it is a skin saver!

Recommend? Yes!!! A all natural brand that really works!!! Overall, I am very impressed with Su:m37 skin care products. They really help treat the skin – makes skin refined, dewy, smooth, and hydrated. The White Award line is very hydrating for normal skin. I really love this line because you get this instant glow that persists for a long time. It has helped keep my skin at bay from blemishes and even has plumped my skin. For dry skin, it may not be so hydrating, but you may need an extra cream to top off at the last stage. As for combo/oily skin – the Secret Programming Essence may make your skin appear a bit oily, so I would recommend using it at night!

Review: I would like to stress how IMPORTANT it is to exfoliate your skin! Exfoliating helps remove the outer dead skin cells, which can clog pores, and cause skin troubles, so in order for your new skin to regenerate, it is vital to remove the waste built on the skin. I have used this product for more than 2 months, and I have decided to give the review now. When it comes to exfoliation, it needs to become a staple if you want your skin to appear clean and clear. I never recommend exfoliating products that have harsh beads or any type of beads because firstly, the beads just sweep onto the skin and do not remove all the dead skin cells, and second, some beads are actually harsh that they can tare the skin leading to pre-mature aging. I tested this out with a different exfoliate called CURE Natural Aqua Gel (which you guys probably are aware of). I exfoliated twice, first with a bead exfoliate and second with a exfoliating gel – a lot of my dead skin cells came out the second time – in my opinion, be skeptical with bead exfoliates as it may not remove all the dead skin cells off your face. Always look for non-abrasive exfoliants!!!

Nonetheless, this product is to be used twice per week. The gel is greenish-marine colour (we could honestly do without the color in this product it is not necessary!), and is a clear gel somewhat runny consistency. The scent is very fresh – almost smells like an ocean breeze haha. I used about a large coin size on my face (if you use too little, it will absorb right away, which will not allow you to massage the dead skin cells off). It is easily applied and forms a film on the face. You leave this for about 1 minute, however, in my experience, 30 seconds is good too. So, does this work? Yes it does!!! After a few seconds, I start massaging my face gently and these tiny balls start forming on top of your skin. The result is shiny and VERY DEWY skin. I found that this product also helps absorb my skin care products better. It keeps skin moist and hydrated – the Korean SA recommended this product for dry skin. Although I have normal, I did not mind the extra moisture! As for oily skin, it is fine to use this product, but because it may be a tad bit rich, a great tip is to use it before cleansing, and then cleanse afterwards. I absolutely love this gel exfoliate, and I highly recommend it!!!

~Gongjinhyang: Hwa Hyun~

At the end of December 2010, I purchased the Hwa Hyun line set which came with the full size Hwa Hyun Balancer, and Hwa Hyun Lotion, and the set came with mini jars of the Hwa Hyun Cream, Hwa Hyun Essence and Hwa Hyun Eye Cream. I was surprised that I still have the sample jars – I did not expect them to last me a month because I was going to purchase the full size, but ended up using the mini jars which is fantastic for me since there not cheap!

Now for an over-run of this line, which I have introduced in my blog; the Hwa Hyun line is meant for anti-aging, hydration, and whitening. This line is an all-in-one functional cosmetic line – potent ingredients include Velvet Deer Antlers, Jade, Gold, Ginseng and various other medicinal herbs to help rejuvenate the skin and help whiten the skin. Using this line for a month, I have seen dramatic results – my skin is very smooth and silky, and my skin glows! I can’t say this has whitened my skin, and if you would like to whiten your skin, then the Seol Whitening line would be much more suitable!!!

I am still using the five products in this range, and I believe a full month has given me enough results that I can review this line for you guys!!! I will be reviewing the Hwa Hyun Balancer, Hwa Hyun Essence, Hwa Hyun Lotion, Hwa Hyun Eye Cream, and Hwa Hyun Cream. I used this line with normal/combo skin – my cheeks tend to get dry during the winter season! I used a pea-size amount for each product, more for the toner and a dab for eye cream.

The History of Whoo Hwa Hyun Balancer

Description: The Hwa Hyun Balancer refines skin texture and promotes a brighter and clearer complexion. With ginseng extract, jade mixture, powedered deer antlers and gold, etc significant ingredients, Hwahyun Balancer revitalizes and lightens your skin while restores the hydration your skin needs. The History of Whoo Hwahyun Balancer provides you with a youthful and refreshed look, brightens your skin and further prevents the dark pigmentation.

Review: This toner has a gel-watery (almost like jelly-water) consistency, but very light. It took some time to absorb – it felt somewhat rubbery. If observed closely, you can see the gold shimmering! You don’t need a lot of the product – pour some on your palms and gently pat on your skin. I personally love the scent of this line – it is very floral. Now for hydration, yes it kept my skin hydrated more than the Seol Whitening Skin Balancer, but not as much hydrated than the In Yang Balancer. Nonetheless, it left my skin very soft and dewy, but you need to pat the toner in to absorb!

The History of Whoo Hwa Hyun Essence

Description: This premium essence helps skin to quickly absorb its light weight texture, evens out the uneven complexion and controls the oil imbalance. Hwahyun Essence nourishes your skin with unique aroma and texture, soften and tighten up your skin, efficatively delays the skin aging and turns the clock back in time for a younger looking skin.

Review: I absolutely love this essence – there is something with Whoo’s essences that I love. It is rich, yet so light, and they just refine the texture of your skin! You can literally see the gold in this essence. It smells heavenly – very strong aroma of herbs and flowers. It keeps skin moist and so soft – leaves a silky touch to the skin and instantly plumps the skin. This is one of my definite picks from the line! Compared to Seol Whitening Essence, the Hwa Hyun Essence is much more hydrating. With this essence you will see an instant glow from within the skin!!!

The History of Whoo Hwa Hyun Lotion

Description: The Hwa Hyun Lotion revitalizes and brightens up the imperfect complexion on your skin. Suitable for combination to dry skin with the most prestige ingredients like the powdered deer antlers, powdered gold and tree extract that allows your skin to quickly absorb its light weight texture. With the court beauty recipes of Queen Jahee, Hwahyun Lotion promotes skin de-aging by brightening the entire skin through each layer of the skin and gives a result of a natural glow from the deepest skin layer.

Review: The texture of this lotion is very rich, much of Whoo’s lotions are rich anyways – but I had no problem with this lotion because it absorbed right away, leaving my skin hydrated. The feel of this lotion is much more richer than the In Yang and Whitening Lotion – I would prefer this lotion than the In Yang Lotion though because the In Yang although it felt light, it was way too rich for me! I tested this alone while standing in the wind, and it kept my skin hydrated without drying it out (for about 10 minutes), so this is a plus for dry skin types!!! The scent is very floral and it’s a white textured product. With first application your skin is plumped, and within a few weeks this works to firm up the skin – it glides smoothly on the skin and absorbs right away.

The History of Whoo Hwa Hyun Eye Cream

Description: This premium eye cream helps diminish dark circles and give your eyes a glow from the deepest layers of the skin. Allow the gold and jade powders to help brighten the skin around the delicate eye area, while the powdered deer antlers and medicinal herbs to rejuvenate the skin and erase the signs of time.

Review: I honestly have something with Whoo’s eye creams. After using the Qi & Jin Eye Cream (top recommendation) this is also on my top lists! You really see the gold shimmers – it is thick gel-type texture (I would not consider it a cream) but is EASILY absorbed. If you are prone to milia, and there were some concerns with the Qi & Jin Eye Cream being too rich, than this is my top recommendation for you guys!!! This is not very moisturizing compared to the Qi & Jin Eye Cream – however, this LIGHTENS your eye area. Within a week I saw results – my eye area had this subtle glow! I absolutely LOVE this eye cream. Remember to pat your eye creams gently around the delicate eye area and not massage because it will stretch and cause pre-mature wrinkles!!!

The History of Whoo Hwa Hyun Cream

Review: I had a problem with this cream – it seemed not to spread evenly on my face. At first I wondered if it was because I was keeping it in my bathroom that the temperatures may have caused a problem with this cream because it was cold, and even if I warmed it up it didn’t seem to do the trick. Since this is a thick buttery consistency, imagine butter being cold, but not being able to spread. So I took this cream out and left in my bedroom, and when the temperature of the cream changed to a warmer state, it easily absorbed into my skin. Probably not one of my top recommendations – the Qi & Jin Cream and Whitening Cream are much better in my opinion. Although this cream is moisturizing and it really helps plump my skin, it seemed that when its cold it will not spread on your face, and I needed an extra cream on top to seal in moisture. Regardless, I did see brightening effects with this cream, so I am pleased with that hehe!

Recommend? For dry dehydrated skin you may need something a little more hydrating - but if you have dry or normal skin it works great! This line helped plump my skin and keep my skin firm, but the whitening effects are minimal and because in my opinion this is an all-in-one line, I would rather buy a line that is targeted to ONE purpose because you know it will help with that specific skin problem. For dryness I recommend the Gongjinhyang Line (which also plumps and firms the skin), and for whitening the Seol line (helps with freckles/ dark marks and dullness). Considering the price, I bought this for $680 USD – so it is expensive. I did expect a bit more since most of the products in The History of Whoo produce results instantly! The best results I have seen from using this line is how plump and firm my skin has become!!! I will still be using these products for a few more months to see what happens considering this is an anti-aging treatment line (& “whitening” hehe) Nonetheless, the ingredients in these products are very effective. THE ONLY products I would HIGHLY recommend is the Hwa Hyun Lotion, Hwa Hyun Essence and Hwa Hyun Eye Cream - if you want a hydrating toner, the In Yang Balancer is excellent, and Qi & Jin Cream. The Hwa Hyun Cream is not so convenient haha but it does help keep my skin plump and radiant!!! You can use them separately and still see results :)

I will be reviewing the In Yang Balancer, Qi & Jin Essence, In Yang Lotion, Qi & Jin Eye Cream, Qi & Jin Cream, and Hae Yoon Sun Cream SPF 50+++. For each product, with the exception of the In Yang Balancer and Qi & Jin Eye Cream, I used a pea-size amount, for the eye cream a little really goes a long way, and for the toner, I poured 4 pea size amounts on my palm and gently patted on my skin.

I would like to begin my review with...

~The History of Whoo Gongjinhyang In Yang Balancer (upgraded)~

Description: In Yang Balancer is a herbal toner that keeps the skin soft and moist by hydrating dry skin and improving its purification capability.

Review: This toner is very watery, but when applied to the skin, immediately hydrates the skin. The scent is very floral, and some of you may find it heavy at times – but it was totally fine for me. Considering it is 150ml bottle, it does last a long time, which is excellent. Compared to the Jinyul Balancer, I would prefer the In Yang Balancer because of its light texture and consistency, it absorbs right away which is great for oily skin too (if you do have oily skin, I don’t recommend the rest of the products in this line for you), while the Jinyul Balancer took some time – but again, you have to consider that the Jinyul line is very rich because it is made for people over the age of 40. Nonetheless, I love this toner for keeping my normal skin hydrated!!!

The History of Whoo Gongjinhyang Qi & Jin Essence

Description: Qi & Jin Essence is a highly concentrated herbal serum for a more crystalline, vital and luminous skin tone. The finest herbal essences from Gongjinbidan offer a luxurious and silky smooth feel

Review: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ESSENCE! The texture is rich and it has a yellow/orange tint to it. It absorbs so fast, it leaves nothing behind, but silky smooth skin!!! The scent is not too heavy compared to the rest of the line. I found this essence helped with the texture of my skin, and how it made my skin feel very dewy. What I love about the creams in this line is it really makes skin soft and supple!!! This is one of my top essences I would recommend for those who have dullness, and need a boost in the texture of their skin.

~The History of Whoo Gongjinhyang In Yang Lotion (upgraded)~

Description: In Yang Lotion is an herbal nutrition emulsion that stimulates the skin's viability. It improves the skin's ability to retain moisture and adds radiance to the skin.

Review: In my personal opinion, I did not find the In Yang Lotion to be my ultimate favourite. The reason being, it is TOO RICH – this is great for very dry dehydrated skin. Having normal skin going into this line, I found this Lotion to create a film on my skin that I did not like. Compared to Sulwhasoo's Basic Line, I would rather stick with Sulwhasoo's Balancing Emulsion, it is so light, but hydrates perfectly (you can replace it with Sulwhasoo's). But if I could, I would skip this Lotion because of its richness. The texture seems light at first, and it does hydrate the skin, but I do NOT recommend using it for oily skin and normal/combo, only if you have dry skin!!!

~The History of Whoo Gongjinhyang Qi & Jin Eye Cream~

Description: It provides excellent wrinkle improvement effects. Its delicate but outstanding absorption tightens slackened cells around the eyes to create a pure and clarified look around the eyes without irritation.

Review: The best eye cream I have EVER tried!!!! Let me tell you how your dark circles are eliminated within two weeks, its unbelievable! When I bought this eye cream, I went into it without using an eye cream for two weeks, and I was sleep deprived due to my busy schedule. I know you guys are probably like, HOW COULD I NOT USE AN EYE CREAM for two weeks haha– but I am glad I didn’t, the reason being because I saw dramatic results!!! The technique I applied this is not in circular motions, but in patting motions, which still helps the product be absorbed. It has a yellow tint, and smells very herby, almost floral – the texture is very emollient and moisturizing the skin around the eyes amazingly. It states that it tightens skin around the eyes, and IT SURE DOES – my left eye can get a bit droopy, but this eye cream lifted and tightened it up. I highly HIGHLY recommend this eye cream, this is not a miss!!!

~The History of Whoo Gongjinhyang Qi & Jin Cream~

Description: Qi & Jin Cream is a product of traditional beauty care techniques of the royal family. In addition to improved firmness through Gongjinbidan maximizes the skin's radiance.

Review: Another cream that is on my TOP LISTS – this cream will make your skin very dewy and soft. The scent is not as strong as the In Yang Balancer and Lotion (which would leave a scent behind on my face haha). The texture is rich, so I do not recommend it to those who have oily/combo skin. This cream is very moisturizing, and I find that it helps keep the skin hydrated even in harsh winter climates (I tested it outside to see how it battles through the cold!!!). I applied this cream by first, gently massaging, then lifting my skin UPWARDS from chin, to cheeks, and forhead – I saw improvements with the lifting techniques, and I recommend many of you to apply your creams this way, but be gentle so you do not stretch your skin. The results I saw from this cream is radiance, glow, firmness, suppleness, and plumped skin!!!

~The History of Whoo Gongjinhyang Hae Yoon Sun Cream SPF 50+++ ~

Description: Whoo's most well known herbal sunscreen cream with characteristics such as providing moisture to the skin, spreading out to the skin with soft texture, refreshing finish touches and absorption without stickiness with a light, smooth sun cream with water cream-like texture.

Review: When it comes down to sunscreens, the ONLY thing I look for is its protection. This sunscreen has a HIGH spf ‘+++’ which is very important, especially during summer times (apply sunscreen even in winter seasons!!!). The texture is thick, it has a light yellow tint, and it seems sticky, but it absorbs instantly. However, I found that because it is thick, it also created a film on my skin. Nevertheless, it did keep my skin hydrated and moist, but compared to the Charmzone Albatross Sun Powder, I would rather go with the Charmzone sunscreen.

Recommended? Yes I would recommend this line, ONLY for dry skin - some of you with normal/combo may find some of the products rich, especially the lotion. I have not tried the new upgraded line. My Korean friend told me that the new line absorbs much quicker, and if you are interested in these products, I advise you to go to the store to try them out - plus a new sleeping pack and upgraded mask-sheets have been included!!!

For those of you with oily skin, I don't recommend this line because the richness may cause some bumps and milia seeds on your skin, so its best to stay away from this. The scent is very floral and herbal, I did not mind it personally - and the texture of the creams are very delicate and luxurious. Overall, I am happy with this lines results. It helped my skin remain soft and supple - it really refined the texture of my skin, and I always woke up to smooth silky skin. My top recommendations are the Qi & Jin Cream, Qi & Jin Essence, and Qi & Jin Eye Cream!!!

Sunscreen: Charmzone Albatross Powder Sun SPF 41++ Review

Introduction to Charmzone

Charmzone is another great brand in Korea (although my love for Sulwhasoo and The History of Whoo will never be outweighed hehe) - and has been making its way to North America on demand!

Their main concern is not how luxurious their products are, rather producing the highest quality products for their customers. The founder of Charmzone Kwang Seok Kim, a pharmacist from the College of Pharmacy in Sung Kyun Kwan University, launched Charmzone to meet the needs of women: aging, lack of vitality, glowing skin, or firmness.

"Charmzone only strives to represent Korea in creating the highest quality cosmetics in the world..."

Some of Charmzone's various lines for specific needs include:

Pleasium: Protecting skin from harmful environmental factors. To keep skin firm and youthful, and tighten skin.

Medicell: Helps your skin regain its brightness - while aiding in dullness, dryness, and a lack of resilience.

DeAge: Provides your skin with potent nutrients such as tomato, pomegranate, red wine, and mulberry.

Wrinklear: Softens the skin, while treating deep wrinkles (all vegetable-based) - makes skin very firm and lifted with massaging techniques.

Gingko Natural: All natural plant-based ingredients, with the main ingredient, Gingko Biloba, to help soothe the skin from blemishes and environmental factors that damage the skin.

Hibutan: Keeps skin clean and bight - removing impurities deep within the skin.

Ziahn: Their oriental-medicinal based products - to treat damaged skin and make it look healthy.

Although it is a lower-end brand, compared to Sulwhasoo or The History of Whoo - I still find Charmzone products very effective. They use natural ingredients, however, fragrance is one big problem I find in Korean skin care which shields off the alcohol scent - the scent in these products are lovely, they may be a bit strong for those of you who dislike heavy fragrance in their skin care!

To begin with the Charmzone Albatross Powder Sun review:

Description: Charmzone Albatross Powder Sun SPF 41++ is developed with protecting & repairing system against UV rays as containg the PMMA (SUNPMMA –S: Polymethy Methacrylate) powder with soft and non-oily finish and the ABOMC (patent number: 10-0890428) powder with improved UV rays protection effect UV ray sunscreen. Non-oily look on the skin and keeps the moisture inside the skin. Three-in-1 effect (UV rays blocking, under make-up, enhance skin elasticity).

How to use: Before outdoor leisure activities, evenly smooth over face (avoiding eye area), arms, neck, legs and other areas exposed to sunlight.

Ingredients:

Review: You cannot use this product without smelling it! The scent is heavy, and when you put it on, you can smell it from a distance (my friend told me why my face smells nice haha). Regardless of its scent, the texture is like a powdered cream, a bit thicker than the Seol Whitening Cream which also has a powdered creamy texture. It absorbs right away, leaving NOTHING behind - I hate sunscreens that leave white casts, which we usually see in Western brands, this doesn't!!! This is the ONLY sunscreen, from testing so many, that I purchase over and over again. Although I recommend purchasing a higher spf with '+++' full protection sunscreens, this is great for all year round. As most of you know, sunscreen is a must, even during winter seasons, and during the rain! Yes, you heard me! I cannot STRESS how much it is important to wear sunscreen every morning before you get out (a lower spf 30 will do indoors since UV rays penetrate through windows and walls - who knew? haha). The best thing about this sunscreen is its filters: it does not include any of the nasty oxybenzone, avobenzone, or the 'benzone' filters, rather Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Octinoxate, and Octisalate. I absolutely love this sunscreen - it really helps absorb oil on the skin, keeps skin moist, and leaves your skin looking matte all day long. So for those with oily skin, this is great, for dry skin - you need a rich cream before you apply this sunscreen! I highly recommend this sunscreen because although you don't look much in sunscreen, the plus is that it keeps skin very moist which I love!

Packaging: The History of Whoo Jinyul’s packaging is very luxurious as it seems so royal, which emphasizes its brand of using recipes from the ancient royal families in China. What I love about The History of Whoo’s packaging is how it is very sanitary – when you close the product, it has a click noise indicating its tightly shut, with no air which carries bacteria and other pollutants to enter into the cream. Another plus is that it comes with a small cap to cover the hole of the product! Sulwhasoo’s Extra Refining packaging has this elegance; this elegance that is very beautiful. Generally, Sulwhasoo’s packaging is somewhat heavy too since they use glass! There is no pump, so it requires you to tilt the product and pour onto your hands, which was not a problem for me – although it is much more convenient for the lotion/emulsion to have a pump.

Texture: Sulwhasoo Extra Refining Water has a watery consistency (pour some onto your palms and apply with patting motion) when applied onto your face, gives your face a glow, and hydrates it immediately! Sulwhasoo’s Extra Refining Emulsion is very light and once again gives immediate hydration – both absorb within seconds! The History of Whoo Jinyul Balancer is a bit richer (even though it is a toner), goes on easily and absorbs right away. The History of Whoo Jinyul Lotion is very rich, but it takes some time to absorb– it leaves a nice glossy look to your skin – I recommend the Jinyul Lotion for those with severe dry skin. The Extra Refining line has a light red, brownish tint, while the Jinyul line has a pale red tint.

Scent: Sulwhasoo’s Extra Refining line has a very strong herbal scent of pine – it’s the same scent when smelling a pine tree, however, very calming to the mind. I really love the scent of Sulwhasoo’s. The History of Whoo’s Jinyul line is the only line that really has a herbal scent (besides the Hwa Hyun Essence – I will review this line after a month). The Jinyul line smells like a mixture of herbs, and flowers, while the Extra Refining line smells like a pine tree – considering it is one of their main ingredients.

Hydration: Both provide excellent hydration!!! You’re face is moisturized for a long duration of time, without having to apply another moisturizer on top of it! For the Jinyul Lotion, I found it a bit rich so it is good for the winter season, and for you dry skin types :)

Result? It’s hard to pick which line is better since both are one of my top high quality products recommended! Although I love The History of Whoo, I have had more success with Sulwhasoo – this brand never disappoints. What I loved about the Extra Refining line is the consistency because although this line is rich, it is still very light, and absorbs very quickly leaving no residue behind which I love in a product! The Jinyul line is very rich – and I understand why since it is made for really dry skin (and women over 40 – but I gave it a try), so I would NOT recommend it for normal or oily skin types of course. The Jinyul Lotion would not absorb right away into the skin, although my skin was dry! The scent of Sulwhasoo’s is much more natural, as with many of their products. After using the Extra Refining line for 3 months, I had radiance and glow from within the skin. My dry skin had become normal, and my skin always felt hydrated – it really treated my skin. It left my skin very smooth and soft, and refined the texture of my skin! The result from the Jinyul line left my skin brightened, immediately tightened and glossy-looking, I could almost compare the look to gloss paper (some of you might want to achieve this look hehe). When you know a product plumps your skin, you know it works for wrinkles – and both did that. I saw results within a week with the Jinyul Line, and a month with the Extra Refining line. Remember when using treatment products, use it for a month and onward to see the FULL results.

Sulwhasoo Skin Clarifying Mask Review

Antibacterial and cleanses the skin. When applied to the skin it cleanses it from freckles, spots, and blemishes, leaving a fresh and brighter skin.

NMF (natural moisturizing factor) components of honey to moisturize the skin and increases skin moisture, which will lead to smoother skin. Contains the building material that is responsible for the moisture balance of healthy skin. The skin regains its natural ability to absorb moisture and to retain it, thus lending it elasticity and suppleness.

Before I begin my review, I would like to discuss the importance of peel-off masks. Peel-off masks are a very essential step when taking care of your skin – it will help absorb your skin care products, aid in keeping your skin unclogged, clean, clear and fresh. Remember to pick masks that have beneficial ingredients for your skin! The difference with a cream mask is that when it dries, you wash it off with water. However, a peel-off mask requires you to gently* peel off the mask. The Korean SA at Sulwhasoo told me that when using a peel-off mask, make sure to apply a light moisturizer (emulsion) before you apply the mask so it will not be too harsh on your skin when you peel it off.

Review: The Sulwhasoo Clarifying Mask is a great peel-off mask I have ever used! I have been using it for years, and just love it!!! You would not expect it, but it also removes some blackheads (however, you do need a blackhead remover for serious removal – although I never recommend those nose strips, its WAY TO HARSH for your nose area). The texture of this peel-off mask is very sticky - almost like a honey feel, but is easily manageable. I apply a really thick layer on my skin, and let it dry for 20-25 minutes. Once dried, you should start peeling from bottom outwards. Remember, never apply it around your eye area – you will cause future damage! Usually for those who have an oily T-zone, you can apply it just to your forehead, nose and chin area, but for those who have troubled skin, I suggest you use it all over the face – all personal preference. After one use, I found my skin looking very bright and fresh. Especially, the texture of my skin was very soft and silky, and stays like that until the next day! The scent is very herbal – and once again, with all the Sulwhasoo scents are so soothing and calming to your mind, you will love using the products. This is a plus since your skin care products will absorb rapidly into the skin!!! Of course, this is no exfoliant (although it does remove dead skin cells, you need an exfoliant to thoroughly remove the impurities on your skin), so don't replace an exfoliant with a peel-off mask! Keep using this product once a week, and find your skin glowing!!!!! I highly recommend it to those with oily or troubled skin. This is definitely my all time favourite masks!!!

Review: My scalp had been getting dry during the winter season, and I needed something to help rescue my dry scalp! I purchased the Sulwhasoo Hair Glaze, which is now referred as the Hair Treatment Oil – and it really is a treatment to the scalp and hair. Not to mention, this product is perfect for oily hair too! This hair oil is concentrated with camellia oil, and ginseng being the fourth ingredient on the list (so sorry I do not have the ingredient list) - ginseng can nourish the scalp and boost hair growth. The scent is very herbal, which I love! The oil is quite runny, but when applied to the hair, leaves a nice shine with no residue whatsoever! What I love about this product is how moisturizing it was my for my scalp – I did several treatments with this product where I would apply a sufficient amount of the oil on my scalp, and wrap it with a warm towel. You can also pour some on your conditioner and shampoo. The results were amazing, within 3 weeks of using this product (2 times per week), my hair had recovered. For those of you who do suffer from severe dry scalp, I recommend you use this more than 2 times. Remember that dry scalp = hair thinning and loss. So make sure you take care of your scalp, as you do with your skin. Other treatments include olive oil and grape seed oil. However, I found that this treatment really improved the look of my hair and my dry scalp – it left my hair silky-smooth and glossy – a very natural look! Highly recommended to those with dry scalps, or those who want to improve their hair, it will not leave your hair looking or feeling greasy!

UPDATE: The History of Whoo Chung Line – Discontinued?

This previous line, Chung, from The History of Whoo was for sensitive, acne-prone or ‘feverish’ skin. Made with traditional herbal ingredients to purify the skin tone (within the skin) to promote clean, healthy skin by retaining moisture even after applying it to the skin.

Potent Ingredients:

~Atractylodes macrocephala~

One of the main ingredients used is called Atractylodes macrocephala, this herb contains an essential oil, glucoside and inulin, and according to modern herbalists, this is an effective herb for acne because it can suppress the growth of pathogenic fungi – which causes skin troubles.

~White Pine~

Another ingredient is White Pine, which is rich in Vitamin C, and has essential oils, are known to be both an antibacterial agent and antiseptic – therefore, helping with acne, and sensitive skin and used for cuts, dry skin and minor skin irritations.

This line consisted of the Chung Balancer, Chung Essence, Chung Lotion, and Chung Cream – used as a treatment to help with acne and any other sort of skin troubles on the skin. One of my readers, Hope In A Blog asked why this line was discontinued? I decided to go and ask The History of Whoo Korean SA where did the Chung line go? She told me that the sales for this product were not high (– so they stopped ordering the line, and as you guys are aware most Korean products have expiration dates, and this line would go onto the expiration date without it being sold, so it was a waste) because, firstly, here in North America people were not aware of the Chung line (now The History of Whoo is becoming more popular), and second, customers coming into the store were not interested in the Chung line (but more on the Seol Whitening, Jinyul, and Yang line) – low sales was the biggest downfall for this line here in North America. But she told me that their other lines consist of herbs that help with skin troubles – but we do not know when another sensitive/acne-prone line will come back from The History of Whoo, lets hope soon since it is on high demand these days. Great news though, she will contact The History of Whoo in Korea and let me know by the end of this month, so stay tuned!!!

The History of Whoo Hwa Hyun Line

This premium whitening, hydrating, and anti-aging line with precious concentrated ingredients that dates back to court recipes of Queen Jahee.

From the ancient Chinese dynasties, Queen Jahee stayed indoors to keep her skin fair. ~Potent Ingredients~

Jade Powder: In ancient China, jade powder was used to remove pigmentation and aid in whitening the skin. It forms a moisture barrier on the skin to help protect the skin from losing moisture, elasticity, and stimulate the regeneration of new cells.

Review: Listen up acne-haters, you may want to try out this medicinal herb product! This product, which has been upgraded, has been getting a lot of great reviews for clearing up acne. This serum is a 5 week process – 7mlx5. Each 7ml product will be used for 1 week (7 days), and yes it does last if used at the right amount (half a pea-size). So you will have to give it time as you do with a lot of treatment product. What I love, again, is that this product is all natural. It contains Jaeumdan, which consists of Small Solomon’s seal, Adhesive Rehmannia, White Lily, Chinese Peony, and East Indian Lotus – and Jaeumboweedan, which consist of seven medicinal herbs. The philosophy behind this product is supplying and protecting the Yin energy to recover your skin back to a balanced state.

I thought this serum was for mature skin (late 40’s to 50’s) but when I went to Sulwhasoo and asked the Korean SA she told me that any age group can use this cream, especially those suffering with imperfections, or acne. I did not have acne, however, I found this serum helped REFINE MY PORES!!! My pores were not visible anymore, even if you had come closer to my skin! It leaves a velvety-silky smooth skin behind, and smells very strong in herbs. The texture is somewhat similar to The History of Whoo Ja Saeng Essence – somewhat sticky, but easily absorbed into the skin, that leaves no residue (as goes with many Korean cosmetics). This serum really helped bring my skin into a normal state; it refined my pores, and completely changed the texture of my skin! Using this product constantly for 4 months, I saw results within a month of use. Again, what I love about Sulwhasoo is the fact that these products treat your skin, and even if you stop using the product, the results stay! This product will help remove toxins and impurities within the skin (I would call it a cleanse for your skin, which aids in restoring your skin to a healthy state). Another one of my miracle products – recommended for any skin type!!! :)
