I Wish I Lived in NYC

Day 3: Breakfast on the steps of the Library, Empire State Building. I actually joined the tour for Showroom 7, a PR firm where buyers come to look at their different designers. Then me and friend walked the high line and the Meatpacking District before shopping in Soho. We had dinner in Little Italy then walked around China Town. Finally we had drinks at Characters.
I had so much fun on my trip. I'm glad I didn't stay with the tour group and did my own thing instead. I wish I could move there right now.

Day 2 of my trip: I walked to 5th Avenue and had window shopped had breakfast in the Upper East Side before heading over to the Met. I loved the Contemporary American art, plus they have an Andy Warhol exhibit that was really cool. I walked back through Central Park. I love how you can see so much nature but in the back there is always the city, the contrast was beautiful.
From there I met up with my friend back at our hotel and we took the subway from there to the Lower West Side and walked the Brooklyn Bridge. It was amazing walk and I loved the view. We had pizza in Brooklyn before heading over to Williamsburg for shopping. I loved it over there! I think if I were to live in NYC I would live in Williamsburg. The people were so nice plus it there seemed to always be something different around the next corner. We decided to stay in Williamsburg for supper and drinks before taking the subway back (we got a little lost on the way back). And ended the night with Pink Berry.

I Love New York

Here are some photos from my first day in New York City. We arrived around 5:30 and our tour group had a walking tour planned. Our hotel was pretty close to Time Square so we started off heading towards there. A friend and I eventually left the group to wander on our own and get some dinner. We had an amazing meal and Five Napkin Burger then went back to our hotel. From there we had drinks at Mercury Bar where I met some amazing people.

I'll post more photos tomorrow and the next day but I had such a good time! I wished I lived in NYC!

I Hate Packing

New York trip is in a couple of day and I started to pack today... man it's hard to go through your wardrobe and pick only a few outfits. I didn't want to bring too much stuff because I wanted my suitcase to have room for shopping, I really had to edit my choices.

So besides the packing I'm getting really excited. I'm going with school and we finally got our itinerary this week! I'm editing it a bit in mind. I'll probably sneak away from the group for the most part and do my own thing, so much to see!

Brunch and Sunny Saturdays

Today was so beautiful! It was warm and sunny, both my boyfriend and I had the morning off so we decided to go for a lovely brunch at a nearby coffee shop. I know I wore this hat in a recent outfit post but it's so convenient for fall. It's wool so it's warm plus it's easy, no messing with my hair in the morning.

Grey Days

Fall is in full effect, it's definitely my favourite season. I love nice chilly weather, layering clothing and bundling up with a cup of tea.

It was rainy and grey today but I didn't mind I was so warm in my circle scarf and ottoman jacket. I was able to get off work super early so I took these photos just in time, before it really started raining. This is my backer, I love that the leafs are starting to change colour, it's so beautiful! I love fall.

I mentioned briefly before that I am going to NYC. Well it's only a couple of more weeks until I go and I'm getting so excited. I've never been there before so I have a pretty ambitious list of things to do (in just 3 days):

1. Go to the Empire State building

2. walk across the Brooklyn Bridge

3. Shop in Williamsburg and find Alexa Chung/make her my best friend

4. Go to the Met

5. Stroll around the west village

6. Check out lower east side
7. Bike around Central Park

Well that's just to name a few...

Before I go.(.. or possibly when I'm there) I have to get a few things!

1. Wet look leggings

2. A purse that closes and will be big enough to hold everything.

3. Some sort of fall jacket

4. a tweed skirt

5. dark lipstick(loving this trend)

6. Something cute to keep my head warm

7. a cozy jumper

If anyone's been there before and has any advice I would love to hear from you!

Ok... so my plans to keep up with my blog was a giant fail!

I'll catch you up quickly with what's going with me.
1. started fashion school. I love it! It's great actually learning something that I know I will use someday.
2. I'm going to NYC in about 3 weeks! I'm so excited, I've never been before.
3. still working two jobs... ugh
4. Loving fall it's my favourite season!

I thought I'd ease back in with a quick outfit picture. I wore this out the other night to Nuit Blanche, the out door art exhibit. I didn't see any art... what a bummer. I did however have a delicious dinner that night. I'm hoping to get a new camera soon! Before NYC hopefully.

Wonderland

For my third year anniversary with the boyfriend, we decided to book a day off (since we both work so much and hardly see each other) and go to Canada's Wonderland. He had never been before and I haven't been since high school, so you can imagine how excited we both were.

I love amusement parks, except the part were you spend most of your day waiting in line. So instead we skipped the lines! Wonderland has recently added this new ticket feature where you pay extra and miss all the lines, it was awesome! We went on 30 rides by the end of the day and were able to enjoy a nice lunch and supper without having to worry about missing too much.

So I guess I'm shit at blogging during the summer. Sorry for the last month and a half! I've been really busy, working constantly and trying to get the house together. Wearing a uniform to work kind of makes it difficult to post outfit pictures, but I'm going to try to make more of an effort. I promise I'll have some pictures of the apartment soon! Hopefully next week, there are just a few things I'd like to finish before that.

I may not have found a lot of time to blog but I did find some time to shop. I'd thought I'd easy may way back into this by showing you a few quick pics of my new goodies!

My Closet Dreams

So it's May 31, I totally made my goal of writing a blog post every day for the rest of the month. I think I'll give myself a new challenge next month too, possible a harder one.
We can officially start moving into our new apartment tomorrow which is so exciting! We are only doing a soft move at first, so we be painting tomorrow morning and Saturday but hopefully we will be sleeping there by Sunday.
I will post some pictures once we get some stuff set up, probably won't be for a while so don't hold your breath. I still have to figure out what do about one big problem with the apartment: no closet. I've decided to maybe do an open closet which will force me to keep my clothes neat and it will kind of be like shopping in the morning.

I thought I would share a few pictures of my favorite open closet images and hope my looks something like this when I figure out what to do.

Friendship Bracelets

So I love that this super nineties trend is coming back into style. If you grew up in the nineties (like me!) you might remember spending hours making these for you and your friends in any colour you desired. I think I use to wear at least five on my arm at a time, I loved. them.

I've decided to give myself a little DIY project and try to create some for myself. I decided to be a little bit more subtle with my colour choices and choose some that are also on trend and go for an ombred effect with m colours. I remember it being fairly easy to make these, so I hope I'm right.

Humid days and Maxi skirts

I promised to post everyday for the rest of the month so today I have a quick outfit post. It's been so humid here lately and a chiffon maxi skirt feels SO good on your legs. The fabric stays cool and allows cool breeze to get through. I love this maxi skirt because I feel really effortless in it. It's such an easy look for the summer. I can't wait to get my sewing machine so I can create some new ones.

Lazy Girl's Summer Essentials

Summer is fast approaching but the weather here has been so hot recently I thought it appropriate to share my summer beauty essentials. I'll quickly explain why I love all of these products and most of them are because they make things quick or allow me to skip other steps in a normal beauty routine (because I'm lazy especially in a hot summer!)

1. Neutrogena face wash. So crucial to have a good skin care routine for a lazy girl like myself. If spend a couple of minutes at night washing away the day's dirt and oil then it saves me time in the morning for when I do my make up and my skin is blemish free. It's extra important for the summer since you (and I mean me) spend the day sweating, not so good for the pores.

2. Cake hair and body powder. While washing away the sweat is important I sometimes need help to cover it up through out the day. Cake is a powder I can sprinkle in my hair when I need to absorb some extra oil. It's quicker then another shower and smells great.

3. Big by Lush. The best shampoo ever and extra wonderful during the summer. It's made with sea salt so it helps create beach-y relaxed waves with body without styling( no sweating while blow drying your hair!)

4. Almond oil. I purchased this at a health food stores and it's amazing. If you have thick lushes hair then you can use it on that, I don't so I use as a quick summer moisturizer. My skin is dry and in the winter I have slab on lotion alot. Summer isn't do bad and oil is enough, just rub some on your skin after your shower and let your body absorb it.

5. Hawaiian Tropic SPF 30 sunscreen for your face. I shouldn't even need to explain this one. Everyone should be sunscreen everyday and this one is perfect is hydrates and protects.

Cupcake Sunday

The Cupcake:
This is a bacon and maple cupcake my brother-in-law made from scratch. He's an excellent cook and it's been awesome staying here with him and my sister, however I will be glad to go back to having pants that fit!

A little bit about me:
I move into my new apartment next Friday which is so exciting. I bought a bed and mattress today from Ikea which is nice, my old mattress was so uncomfortable. I still have so much stuff to buy for the apartment I can't wait to decorate it super cute.
I'm also excited to have a nice place to take outfit pictures, I think I'm going to paint the apartment sometime this week or early next week before all my stuff arrives from Ottawa. I can't wait to get the rest of my wardrobe and actually be able to have a place to put it. I'm also very excited to get my sewing machine. I have a few things I can't wait to make, including cat shorts (not shorts for cats, shorts with a cat pattern, sounds ugly will be cute) and an a-symmetrical dip dyed/ombred maxi skirt. I also want to make some more crop tops because it gets so hot in Toronto I need more of them!
Once the apartment is furnished though I think I'm going to treat myself to a little shopping spree. I have worked so hard these past few weeks but all my money has gone towards the apartment so far, which is still awesome and I will be happy about it soon, but I can't enjoy any of it yet it.
I also realized that I suck at blogging this month so I'm going to try and post something every day for the rest of the month (which I know only has five more days but better then nothing.)

I'm so sorry I have barely wrote anything this month, it's hard to keep on top of things lately because I'm living out of a suit case with maybe half of my wardrobe, most of which tends towards a little more winter clothing. However, I have some very good news! I found an apartment, we move in June 1st. I'm so excited. That's all for now.

We may/hopefully found an apartment. It's a super cute little place close to where we are staying now. The apartment isn't very big but it's clean and bright and cheap! I really hope the landlord liked us enough!

Kensington Thrift

I've been pretty busy working so much so I'm sorry that I haven't been posting very much.

I did find time to do some pretty cool thrift-ing. I found this shirt in the Kensington market for $12! It's a boy scouts of america shirt with a few badges on it. I think it's pretty cool, and they had a bunch of other cool stuff there, I'm going back for an army jacket!

I also found these tennis shoes in China town for three dollars. I was about to purchase to my third pair of Keds, but since they don't last very long and cost 13 times what these ones cost I decided to go for it and see how they work out. So far, I'm very pleased, they are more comfortable then Keds, my feet must be Chinese.

Cupcake Sunday

The Cupcake: Not a cupcake, but small and cute like a cupcake. It's a pistachio macaroon. I never had a macaroon before and it was so delicious! I'm going to try to make some when we get our own place.

A little about me: I found a second part- time job so I have been working a lot. It's another serving position, I have to wear a uniform at this one, which kind of blows, but the uniform could be alot worse!!
We are looking for a place to live but no luck yet!

Rainy Days

The weather in Toronto has not been as wonderful as I had hoped when I moved here. Today for example, rainy and cold. There is a huge difference between rainy days here and in St. John's: umbrellas. They are totally useless in St. John's because of all the stupid wind making rain completely unbearable. Toronto we can use umbrellas! Its make the rain almost enjoyable... almost.

I had a job interview today downtown so I had a bit of walk today and then me and my boyfriend decided to spend the rainy day at the mall which was torture! I have no money to speak of so actually buying stuff is out of the question. I can however, look but it's so annoying! I did however decided that when I get my first paycheck I may treat myself!

Lucky I still have lots of clothes that I hadn't really had a lot of chance to wear yet, for example this jacket. It's a rain parka from American Apparel and it's super comfortable and great for the rain day, but it isn't lined so it can be too cold to wear in Newfoundland. I wore it today and it was perfect. The umbrella added a touch of needed colour to my outfit, it's my sister's umbrella and it's so cute!

Cupcake Sunday

There isn't much to say actually, I've started training and I'm finding my way around the city pretty good. I was able to catch up with some old friends which was nice and I've started to look for an apartment, very exciting!

Bicycle Accessories

I love living in the city and I'm really excited to spend the summer here! A few days ago I bought my favorite summer accessory: a bicycle. I found a lovely vintage Raleigh three speed glider online and bought it from the nicest man, he even gave me a 'student discount.' I really like it and I can't wait to ride it. I'm definitely going to take some outfit pictures with it so everyone can see it. There are just a few things I need first, like a lock.

I've been to a few bike shops in the city and I there are so many cute things. I decided to make a little college of somethings I plan to get, I just have to do a little more scouting.

Here are a few things I Need!

1. A bicycle basket. I had one before on my old bike and I love it, no need to ride around with a backpack and get all sweaty! I love front ones because I can see what's going with stuff but they do throw the balance of your bike off slightly if you have a heavy load. The wicker ones are so cute I hope I can find one that is sturdy enough for me, but I will probably end up with a wire one again, it held up so good on my old bike.

2. A cute bag to go into the basket. If I do end up with a wire one I might make a bag that fits inside that is removable?? I'll have to think about that.

3. Cute water bottles. I'm going to get a a little holder to attach to my bike so I don't get dehydrated while riding. I also need to get a good bottle of sunscreen!

4. A bell. Apparently the fine for not having a bell in Toronto is $100, definitely getting one!

5. A helmet, safety is sexy. Head injuries are not!

6. Sunglasses. Important for summer in general, but especially while riding a bike, being blinded by the sun is not good.

7. American Apparel cycle shorts. I hope to get a cute pair I can wear under dresses and skirts while I ride. I really like the ones with lace at the bottom.

8. Silk flowers. I would like to decorate my basket with cute colourful flowers.

OK, that's it. Hopefully I'll get all these things soon so I can ride my bike everyday.

Cherry Blossoms

Last week we went to see the cherry blossoms in High Park. It's so nice to see flowers bloom, not much of that happens in St. John's (but you do get super green grass and trees from all the rain). There were a lot of people there to see the beautiful flowers, so I have lots of friends in my photos but it was unavoidable.

The weather was nice but it did rain a little, but it was warm and the sun would come out from time to time. We walked down from my sisters place to see the trees and then headed out for some brunch. I had pancakes with smoked ducked, blueberry compote and goat cheese. It was so good! If you are in Toronto you must try Barque. Everyone's food was so tasty, the only thing was the service was a little shitty.

I love this outfit but I did kind of feel like a cow girl. The skirt is new from H&M, it's so comfortable and pretty. I paired it with this denim button-up to keep a nice relaxed feel and of course I wore my Hunters since there was a chance of showers.

This is one of those mini peanut butter cupcakes from Starbucks. It was really good especially for only having 180 calories.

A Little About Me:
Its been almost a week since we moved to Toronto. I'm having a lot of fun so far. We saw a Blue Jays game, went for dim sum with my family, and saw the cherry blossoms. However, most of the week was spent walking around the city, getting to know the area and trying to find a job. Well I found one!! I start training on Tuesday for a server position at Utopia on college. I'm very excited.
