2012-02-02T12:07:00.000-04:00

The OMG Girlz just dropped their new video for the teen crazed smash single "Gucci This(Gucci Everything)". The group consists of Tiny & T.I.'s daughter Deyjah aka Star, Beauty, & Baby Doll, but just when girl groups were a thing of the past this fresh new talent jumps on the scene and breathes new life into a dying era. Even though the girls have on make-up, colored weaves, & flashy jewelry, the image and look is still appropriate for their age group. Plus the song is very catchy, so let's see what the world has to see from The OMG Girlz.

Don Cornelius Dead: Soul Train Host and Creator Dies After Apparent Gunshot Wound

2012-02-01T14:48:00.000-04:00

Don Cornelius, the creator and longtime host of the groundbreaking music show ‘Soul Train,' has died. He was 75.

According to the Los Angeles Times, police arrived at Cornelius’ Sherman Oaks home around 4 a.m. and found him dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A radio news announcer by trade, Cornelius began moonlighting at WCIU-TV in the 1960s. While there, he toyed with the idea of creating an African-American version of "American Bandstand," Dick Clark's influential music show, with live dancing five days a week. On August 17, 1970, the first episode of Soul Train premiered on the station, and by the following year, it was being syndicated in other markets.

"Soul Train" became the longest-running nationally syndicated show in history, airing from 1971 through 2006. Cornelius held down the hosting duties for most of that run, before stepping away in 1993. He remained as the program's executive producer and expanded the brand into an annual awards show.

Here is Don Cornelius a few years back at the BET Awards presenting an award in good health and sound spirits.
We send our condolences out to the Cornelius family in their time of bereavement.

Guru Review: Ciroc Dreams Capricorn vs Aquarius Celebration

2012-01-30T16:45:00.000-04:00

If you dream of Ciroc like I do, then Asylum was definitely the spot to be this past Friday as our favorite bartenders Missy & Mallory poured it up all night long. January birthdays start the year off, so what better way than to accommodate the patrons than to have an official Capricorns vs Aquarius Celebration honoring everyone having a birthday. The host, Young-R, was celebrating his birthday as well, even though the birthday boy wouldn't take a shot with the team, he still enjoyed himself. Both of the VIP areas were rented out, we had one VIP guest celebrating her 30th birthday with friends and her fellow sorors, them "Damn Deltas." Plus we had a surprise visit from Fort Valley State's own Richardo Lockette of the Seattle Seahawks & Dionte' Dinkins of the St. Louis Rams partying it up in VIP with friends & guests. But wait, there's more.... we even had Macon City Council members partying with us as they left the "All That Jazz" event Friday night at the Macon Coliseum. It was such a successful night, I can honestly say the entire 478 area came out and showed support. Check out the entire photo gallery here.

Tyler Perry Video "How to be Successful" w/ Video

2012-01-26T09:30:00.001-04:00

Tyler Perry uploaded this video a couple days ago and the video already has a lot of views, but this conversation he is having with the fans really sparked a bulb in my head. "How to be Successful" is the topic of discussion in all social media sites, acclaimed novels, and magazines but it seems as though no one really hit the hammer on the nail until I heard the words from Tyler Perry. Most people are aware of Tyler Perry's rag to riches story, but some people don't realize how hard it is in the world for a young African-American male to make it. When God closes a door, a window opens.

J.C. Penney Gets Rid of Hundreds of Sales

2012-01-25T18:07:00.000-04:00

J.C. Penney's new CEO, Ron Johnson, unveils new pricing strategy to its investors, leaving some shocked and others left out in the dark. So let's find out what all the chatter is about on Wall Street & in the corporate world.

Here's how Penney's pricing strategy will work:
— Sale prices become everyday prices. The company will use sales data from last year to slash prices on all merchandise at least 40 percent or lower than the previous year's prices. So, a woman's St. John's Bay blouse regularly priced at $14.99 could have the "Every Day" price of $7.
— Fewer sales. The retailer will pick items to go on sale each month for a "Month-Long Value." For instance, jewelry and Valentine's Day gifts would go on sale in February, while Christmas decorations would be discounted in November. Items that don't sell well would go on clearance during the first and third Friday of every month when many Americans get paid. Those items will be tagged "Best Prices," signaling to customers that's the cheapest price.
— New tags. The retailer used to pile stickers on price tags to indicate each time an item was marked down. But now each time an item gets a new price, it gets a new tag too. A red tag indicates an "Every Day" price, a white tag a "Month-Long Value" and a blue tag a "Best Price."
— Simpler pricing. Penney will use whole figures when pricing items. In other words, you won't see jeans with a price tag of $19.99, but rather $19 or $20.
— New advertising. Ads began airing Wednesday with a shopper screaming "No" to discounts as they look in their mailboxes, a pile of coupons and big sales signs. The company also has a new spokeswoman (talk show host Ellen DeGeneres) and logo (a red outline of a box that features JCP in the corner.) And a 96-page catalog will be mailed each month to 14 million customers, along with other promotional efforts.

Local News: Barber School may be heading to Mercer University Drive

2012-01-25T16:00:00.000-04:00

A barber school could be opening on Mercer University Drive.
A conditional-use application that would allow the barber school at 4356 Mercer University Drive is expected to be considered Monday by the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission.

The school plans to have three class schedules: 8 a.m.-noon; 1-5 p.m. and 5-10 p.m.
The school would be equipped with 16 stations, eight shampoo bowls, eight dryers, classroom, break room and a library.
While each shopping center suite has 12 designated parking spaces, the commission’s staff report states: “There is a possibility of a conflict in parking; however, (because there) is an issue between the tenants and the owner of the shopping center.”

Guru Review: Pumps & Polos Volume 2

2012-01-24T11:30:00.000-04:00

ELJ ENT had so much of an demand from their lst Pumps & Polo event, they had to bring it back again Volume 2 this time for the fans. Club goers poured down to Club Asylum this past Friday to hear music by DJ AD, take pictures all night long, & get their 5 minutes of fame with footage shot by Blue Montana. The fellas came in with their Polos crisp & clean, and the ladies definitely brought the sexy with their pumps on. The only buzz in the street that I was aware of was a brawl inside of the club of about 20 people by a local source. Fighting inside of the club is definitely not the best way to end your problems, but some people will never grow up. Check out all photos here.

Check out pictures below:

George Lucas "Red Tails" Scores Big at The Box Office

2012-01-22T16:32:00.000-04:00

Despite George Lucas’s struggles to get any major movie studio to take a film featuring an all African-American cast, Red Tails proudly sits at second place at the box office with Friday $6M, Saturday $8.6M, & a weekend total of $19.4M. Reports say he covered the cost of production with his own money, then provided another $35M for distribution.
.
According to DealLine.com:

"Hollywood studios were stunned by how well the No. 2 film, George Lucas banner film Red Tails, did in matinees today. Until they discovered that the Lucasfilm/Twentieth Century Fox movie’s marketing inside the African-American community resulted in busloads of schoolkids and midday filmgoers for the Tuskegee airmen’s story."

Red Tails showcases a star studded cast including singer Ne-Yo, actor Terrence Howard and many others. Red Tails can be currently seen in theaters across the nation. Do you think major Hollywood studios will now fund more Black films?

R&B Princess Ashanti Live Interview on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show

2012-01-20T12:58:00.000-04:00

Ashanti has been MIA from the R&B business for a few years now, but she has kept her name in the blogs due to the fact she was dating St. Louis rapper, Nelly, whose career is far down the toilet. But Ashanti & Nelly are no longer dating at this time, check out the full story here. Ever since her Murder Inc. Records days with the reign of Ja Rule, Irv Gotti, & the entire crew, Ashanti has never seemed to get her once approved fame that she had back in her beginner days. I was able to catch an interview of Ashanti this morning on Rickey Smiley Morning show on 97.9 WIBB.

A picture of Rickey Smiley, Ashanti, Head Krack, Miss Juicy J, & Ebony Steele from The Rickey Smiley Morning Show today.

Ashanti & Nelly in happier times

Ashanti has a new album and single that just dropped titled "The Woman You Love" feat. Busta Rhymes. Check out the single below & let the public know what you think of the single. In my personal opinion its okay, but I hope this R&B princess still have some of those Murder Inc checks coming in because she is going to need them....lol!

Guru Review: Yung Joc Live at Club Envy

2012-01-20T00:10:00.001-04:00

Yung Joc has really been making moves in the Middle Georgia area & surrounding counties, he was spotted two weeks ago in Covington, Ga at Club Ozone with DJ Smooth giving a live performance. So this past Saturday, Yung Joc and his Swag Team headed Downtown Macon to Club Envy to give the local fans a show. Now when I first heard about him performing at Club Envy, my first thought was..."Where is he going to perform at?" I say that because Envy is not a big club, it holds maybe 250 people at the most. But Yung Joc made it do what it do and showed the crowd a great performance anyway. I hope he is not still under investigation about the $50,000 in studio equipment that was stolen from his studio back in December 2011 in Atlanta, Ga. ~~But that is old news swept under the rug for now.~~

Enjoy the pictures below:

The ladies headed Downtown to see a great show

Guru Review: The Official "No Pieons Allowed" Party Updated w/ Video

2012-01-20T00:10:00.000-04:00

This past Saturday, The Tonefide Heros presented The Official "No Pieons Allowed" party at Olympia Skating Center with live performances from Yung Tone, Rich Kids, Self Paid, Blue Montana, Young-R, Da Mascots, & Bandit Gang Marco. I am just glad there are events held at Olympia Skating Rink where high school teens & college freshmen can go to socialize, have a good time with their friends, and be back at home by curfew. From their previous event which was The Beef It Up Bash held back in November which brought out a very nice crowd, this event did just the same. Some of my high school followers were present at this event and had nothing but great reviews about it as well as Twitter was buzzing about it. Salute to all of the local artists that performed at this event, may you all keep up the good work. Check out the entire photo gallery here by PH Services.

Da Mascots came through and shut the show down, click here to view there new music video "Put That" on Youtube (Explicit Content Advisory) & follow them on Twitter @ Da_Mascots.

Yung Tone hit the stage & performed his latest single "Top Me Off" feat. Jose Guapo with his Team Tonefide.

We were all aware of how cold it was Friday night, but patrons still came out to Asylum & had a great time for The MLK Weekend Holiday Kickoff dancing to music from DJ Smooth. The 478 area showed up and showed support, even though we have no photos from this event, everyone genuinely enjoyed themselves; especially our "Old Skool Music" segment where DJ Smooth throws it back to the late 80s/ early 90s to hear music from some of the era's greatest performers.
