IMHO, the media has always played up or played down issues based on getting more and more ratings, but it is what it is...

It seems, to me, more than any other time in our history, there are more and more "groups" or "movements" forming to express their intent to "take back our country". Some say they want to take it back from their political opposition/Democrats. But, I wonder, do they really mean "take it back from that black guy".

If you consider, during the last administration, we weren't living in lala land where everything was coming up roses.

Do you think the President's race is what's driving these new movements? If not, why not?

Are the Democrats, the Republicans or both attempting to bully the American people into accepting their respective point of view? How so?

My brother and I live in neighboring towns but we rarely see each other and we talk on the phone even less. It's not that we're not a close family, but because there's a 13-year age gap (he's older) we didn't hang-out together as kids. Anyway, how do we keep in touch, we e-mail! This week we were "discussing" the hot topic of the day...health care reform. I sent him my two-cents and this morning he replied, "good comments have you considered blogging?" Well, I'm 46 years young, and I can e-mail, but beyond that, I'm not very computer savvy. But, I thought, ehh, I'm not working right now, so what the heck. Actually, in 2008 one of my girlfriends suggested I start a blog, can't remember why I must have been going on and on about something. But I created a site on Blogger and at the time I guess I lost interest so I never used it. I didn't know how to edit the web address from "whatnottodo" to "The Grey Lady Report", but apparently you found me!

Blogging. I'm not the kind of person that likes to go on and on about me, and I don't know if there is a right way to blog...maybe there's a book out there blogging for dummies, I don't know? Anyway, although I have the gift for gab, I'm more interested in what others have to say, about almost everything. So, this is not a blog about me, or what I'm doing every minute of the day, hence the cartoon avatar and The Grey Lady. Oh sure, I may share my opinion from time to time, but mostly I want to know what others think. I'll introduce a subject and if there is interest I suppose folks will comment and talk about it, if not, then I guess they won't and I'll throw something else out there.

This is my maiden voyage into blogging, so if you've read this far, why not give me your feedback.

Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak without censorship and/or limitation. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes used to indicate not only freedom of verbal speech but any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, such as on "hate speech".

I almost said, since the election, but in fact, even before the election of President Obama, we Americans have exercised our right of freedom of speech more than any other time in our history. In the sixties, the civil rights protesters were told to "love it or leave it" (i.e., the US) when they took to the streets with their signs and demands for change, etc. Today, we have groups such as the Tea Party and others. Hummm, but is there a historical double standard? I remember, a few years ago during the Bush administration, if you did not agree with the war, you were being unpatriotic. Today, some would argue, if you agree with the current administration, you're unpatriotic.

We have the right to say how we feel about anything, including our government, and that's one of the things (I think) that makes this country great (I love to travel, but would not live anywhere else).

Is there a double standard when it comes to freedom of speech? What's your take on freedom of speech?
