Reset numbering for Screenshots Win+PrtSc

I was using today the screen shot functionality of Windows 8.1 Win Key + PrtSc

How to reset the numbering?

As you can see the screen shot above the numbering was 245.

I searched a bit but found nothing. So i thought about the registry.

From a quick search in the registry (first hit by the way!) is the value shown below

make sure you change the Decimal value back to 1 and click OK.

Why the new JFrame terminates the application when we close it?
Lets investigate.

So lets opent the NewForm code and look the code.

Observe the line were the WindowBuilder generated the default close operation.
It commands the JFrame to EXIT_ON_CLOSE
Then the garbage collector completes the job.

Not this garbage collector :D
the JVM garbage collector.

What we should do is to replace the EXIT_ON_CLOSE with DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE
The logic behind this is to keep the main application on memory and only dispose the new form.
if you are implementing data persistance (database connections, xml, etc.) its a good idea to save and close the connections.

Coding the main Form

To make things easy you can double click the button, it will open the code to the actionEvent.

The first thing we are going to do is to declare and initialise the new form. We will command it to show the new screen. We will observe what happens when we close the new form.

So double click the button, we will be shown in the ActionEvent code. We will initialise the new form and we will set the visibility to true

Eclipse will now load the newly created class.

If you click on Design you will see your GUI

Lets click Design

Now lets drag the Absolute layout to the form

You will see the green border when you drag the absolute layout

Follow the same process as before to create the new form but insted select the JFrame

I named my new form NewForm

So this post is something like a personal reference.
Lets start, we are going to use Eclipse with WindowBuilder Pro.

I will not go through the installation its simple to install, just follow the instructions or search in youTube :)

Select File --> Java Project

Lets specify a few project information like the project name

Lets give our project a name such as: AmazingProject
Its a good idea to maintain a coding habit see the UPPER first letter.
But note that for variables later we are going to start their name with a lower character testingVariable for example

Click next or click finish. The project is created.

You will see the progress bar moving if you click next.
Click Finish on the next screen.

Add Swing application window

select the package explorer and expand your project and create a package

We will use the same process File --> New --> Package

Name your package and click finish

i named my package amazing ** lower 'a'

Select your created package and click File--> New--> Other

Expand the WindowBuilder, expand Swing Designer and select Application Window

The Swing Application Window wizard creates a main class that instantiates and shows a top-level JFrame.

Name your new swing application i used MainForm

Click Finish to create the Application Window

I became obsess yesterday on how to post to WordPress without using the XML thing or email.

I was thinking about it while I was driving around in Paphos Cyprus in the traffic where technologically illiterate people dominate :)

People that they think that the computer works with magic or they know YouTube and they think that they are the TOP Scientists and think that is a waste of money to hire a skilled programmer to do the job. Anyway I got angry today because a man that I made a website for him demanded me do add more things without getting paid. Sorry I don't do charity.

Now enough with my issues :)

How to post

Simple task, use the web Browser object to point to your WordPress administration login page.

Now open a Browser any will do but I prefer Chrome for this task.

A new beginning...

A new beginning for Microsoft, with the new design of Windows 8 the company looks forward to challenge the tablet market. In order to challenge though they have to be ready before next October.

With the cosumer preview available for enthusiasts and other tech guys Microsoft looks forward to chalange Apple. With the support of Intel to deliver ultra thin devices its very possible that the new best tablet will be powered by Windows.

We look forward Microsoft to try the new products.

But Apple will not stay behind :)

Adobe released again an amazing piece of software!

We can try the beta version for 7 days trial period.

Winston Hendrickson, Adobe's vice president products, Creative Media Solutions, said in a statement :

Voice can help make things easier

It's very simple for me to talk to my smart phone and ask it to do things for me. For example this moment I'm not typing what you see on your screen I'm talking to this software that converts my voice to text. This software I'm using Vlingo allows me to create articles very very fast.
As i talk the program converts my voice into text. A few changes on the computer and is ready to go!

Recently I came across siri, Apple's assistant for the iPhone 4s. I was amazed how this software can do so many things for people.

Not all people have the physical ability to type and use touchscreen mobile phones.

The need - rush for voice enabled mobile devices came when Apple inc released the new iPhone. I don't think that they are any people involved with smart phones that didn't watch the advertising of the new iPhone - application. Apple restricted siri on the 4s as a marketing strategy and as it seems it works.

Hackers already made it possible to download and install the app on older device enabling non 4s users to use features.

Very soon and don't be amazed we may see a legislation that forces the smart phone manufacturers to have voice control and natural voice conversation on their products this will not only make devices more friendly to the user but it will make devices more accessible to people with disabilities.

Imagine the digital world free from hardware and painfully small keyboards buttons or touch with just the control of the voice. Maybe not fully voice but a hybrid between the "classic" and the "new".

SARA best free alternative to siri????

Recently i came across sara. Sara is a Siri like app for iDevices. Sara was created by a Vietnamese developer Nobita. Sara at the moment is at version 0.2.2 build 1.

Many idevice users including iphone users are frustrated because sara crashes. Nobita recently released the newest version of his software but as he told me he is alone on this project and he cannot test the software on every device.

I updated sara from Nobitas repo on cydia but even if i say hi the software crashes.

Due to this problematic software i decided to use some alternative software. Spire that ports siri to the iphone 4 device is a great way and legal way to have siri to your iDevice. You just need a trusty server that does all the dirty work. BUT some apps fail to start after spire is installed. Although spire problem i believe that spire is the best thing if you want siri working on other than iphone 4s. Nobita did a great work but his releases are not trustworthy as he is unable to test on all devices. At least when spire is installed you get the legal port with all the api's; only a good server that coverts natural language to something that siri understands.

I will keep an eye on sara but until Nobita releases a stable version i would keep spire. You could argue that with spire some of your apps will stop etc. I simply un-installed them and install again and they work fine.

Connecting Arduino to Flight Simulator X

Introduction

Welcome to my tutorial on how to connect Arduino to Microsoft Flight simulator.
This is the easiest method I found.
FSX SDK exists but lacks of documentation, is not useful as it requires huge amount of code. I wanted something easy and after some research I was able to connect to FSX using the FSUIPC API. Please note that to get some of the functionality you have to register FSUIPC. And I thought sharing this with the world, maybe someone will benefit. In this ``tutorial`` I will explain the process and not just give you the code. I believe in understanding not just knowing.

System design

The Arduino send serial data to a VB application that uses the FSUIPC API to control FSX. In this tutorial we are going to control the Landing gear.

Requirements:

Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX)
FSUIPC 4, you can download it from:

FSUIPC SDK
- You can also download it from the website shown above
- Scroll a bit down :)
Arduino (any version)
- And how to get the input from a simple switch
- Switch, 1K resistor and some wires
Microsoft Visual Studio (I have 2010)
- VB.NET
- .net framework (any) I have 4

Before you start up make sure that you have everything installed

Arduino part

The first thing we have to do is to make the switch. Use my schematic and make your own simple switch circuit.

Note that the switch is a simple on/off switch just like this one here (I'm trying to make a panel for a homemade flight simulator)

We can proceed to the code for the Arduino.
Our Arduino scenario
We have to get the state of the switch; the Arduino is going to monitor the state of the switch with the digitalRead function.
When we get the state of our switch we will send serial data back to the computer.
Use your Arduino IDE and upload the code

What we need for the VB .NET solution?
DLL found in the FSUIPC SDK
You can find the dll in the ZIP file FSUIPCDotNetClient2.0.zip that came with the SDK
After you locate the DLL extract it in a folder of your option

Desktop application

Start a new project by going to file -> New Project
Select a Visual Basic .NET Windows Forms Application and give it a name of your choice
I gave the name StavrosFSX Arduino
Press the OK button to create the project
Just to be safe, SAVE your application
File -> SAVE ALL
Now it's a very important step we have to add a reference to the DLL that we found previously.
In the folder that Microsoft Visual studio created in my documents I am going to save the DLL so I don't have to worry about finding it later (if you are going to do the same make sure that you copy the xml file as well, (Note that the name of the folder is the same name of your project).

FSUIPC dll

You can also manipulate the references from the solution explorer but anyway.

Select the References Tab at your left and then the Add button, from the dialog that pops up click browse and find the DLL inside the folder you copied it.

The software is going to report the installed reference

Press the Save all menu one more time and let's start programming :)
As we saw before the Arduino includes one switch and we can get reports from the Arduino through the serial port. We are going to use the serial port to collect value of the switch and we are going to use the API (DLL) to send it to FSX.
Simple :)

Design

I gave this names, please use your own style when naming the controllers don't use my bad naming I was in hurry :)

Serial Data observation

Now open your Arduino serial terminal and observe the different values that the Arduino transmits through the serial port, observe also the difference when we close and open the circuit. From here we make a mental note of the com port and the baud rate, in my case COM17 and baud rate 9600. Make sure the baud is the same with the Arduino in the void setup() or your data will be ``scrambled``

User settings

Now I like to have the program remember my com port and my baud rate so I don't have to type them all the time. Visual studio and the .NET framework allow us to do with the Application settings. You can set the user settings using the project properties as we did above when we referenced the API. Note that we can change the settings later in our code.

Now let's write up a bit of code to get and save the settings.
Double click on your form in order to get the form load code. And create a new sub to handle the loading into the form.

What this code does is to open the serial port and start a new thread
The thread will read the serial stream and send it for processing into the sub process processReadings() that takes as arguments the last reading. Because the new thread cannot interact directly with the main form we have to set a callback function, so as you noted the following code

We then check if the Arduino sends the GEAR1 or GEAR0 that represent down and up.
Next thing to do is to talk about the API and how we will make it work.
We are going to use 2 documents found in the SDK the user guide as PDF and the FSUIPC4 Offsets Status PDF.
We are going to use our documents to learn how to write the API call.
In this tutorial we want to read and write a value to FSX. The guide specifies this as an offset.
To get the gear status we use

So when offset gives 0 then the gear is up and 16383 is down.

Now let's test our application
Open FSX and load a simple flight making sure you are airborne, also make sure that your aircraft supports landing gear function :)
Get out of full screen and set the option in settings general pause on task switch so FSX will not pause when you click away.
After you connect your Arduino to your pc and you lunch the application you should have a fully functional system.
The landing gear should go up and down. If you have full realistic mode on FSX make sure you are 3000 feet and less altitude.

Samsung NC10 recovery

lets say that you bought your nc10 and you install linux and you remove them later and you want to recover the data from Samsung recovery but you cant because F4 does not work anymore but you have access to the computer at least the command prompt.

What you can do?

Take your laptop to Samsung service and PAY!!!

OR

boot normaly to windows and open command prompt by Start -> start -> run Type CMD

when the command prompt open type diskpart let it start and type rescan and let the program finish rescanning the disks etc.
When the program finish scanning your disks type list disk you will see a list with your disks i suggest that if you have anything plugged to your computer remove it before and follow the procedure again and carefully

ok my pc is giving me one disk DISK 0

now type select disk 0 After type list partition it will give you 2 or 3 partition select the one that is type OEM by typing select partition 1(number depends)

now type active.

This is it now restart and the computer will boot to the recovery console!
Warning: if you do not want to make the oem disk bootable dont select you have to do the compleate recover so the recovery console will make your disk bootable again.

I try it and took me some while to repair the disk so Be carefull
I do not have any responsibility if you cannot fix your disk after!
By doing this steps you agreed that what you do and what happen is up to you.

Cyprus Internet Radio

Recently i found that if you want to hear your internet radio on the web consumes too much resources.
What i did?
I create my own application that has internet radio stations, the program was build in VB.Net (i know why not C++? A: Faster)
Everyday i google for more internet stations and soon i will have them all integrated in my program.
For the momment i have only Cyprus and Greek channels
the program includes windows media player and msn plug in
windows media player for playing the music and msn plug in to show in what i hear a message

If you complete this `tutorial` and you still dont see the status bar message
go to enable-javascript-to-change-status-bar
