You can use this PowerBuilder library to extract source code from PowerBuilder PBL and it is using PowerScript to extract the source. This PowerBuilder source extractor was originally developed for PowerBuilder 8 and recently migrated to PowerBuilder 12.6. If you like this PBL, let me know by giving your feedback.

Measuring your wireless router performance for Mojave and Windows 10

2019-01-02T16:55:00.002+13:00

It has been a long time that I have blogged and I guess New Year, new resolution, blog more and share knowledge to the next generation of techies.

I was keen to experience on how to measure the effectiveness of my wireless router. I have a Spark HG659b (Huawei) modem router which supports 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band. At the same time, I bought a Trendnet AC1900 TEW-818DRU router which supports the same dual band as Huawei.

In today's world, speed is the thing, so I set out to workout the performance between this 2 routers using 2 laptops (MacBook Pro 13 inch Early 2015 and Dell XPS 13 9370). MacBook is running Mojave 10.14.1 Beta (18B73a) and Dell is running Windows 10.0.17134.472.

Went to https://iperf.fr/iperf-download.php and downloaded the latest version for both MacOS (version 3.1.3 64-bits) and Windows (version 3.1.3 64-bits). Uncompress both files into its own folder. It can be quite intimidating to use especially the first time as there isn't any example except the command that we can use.

Trendnet AC1900 TEW-818DRU
The first test will be Trendnet wireless router. The MacBook started off acting as the server and Dell will be acting as the client. When the measurement starts, you will see both the server and client responding to each other.

In Mojave, launch terminal and navigate to the path of iperf. I have used this command "/Users/peterwong/Downloads/iperf3 -s". Next, you will see that the MacBook is listening on a port and in my case 5201 (default port). Screenshots for Mojave are as below:

In Windows 10, launch Command Prompt and I used most of the default setting. An example will be "iperf3 -p 5201 -c 192.168.10.104 -f m". You will see each respond corresponds to Mojave's prompt. Screenshots are as below:

Huawei HG659b
I have used the same command "/Users/peterwong/Downloads/iperf3 -s". Next, you will see that the MacBook is listening on a port and in my case 5201 (default port). Screenshots for Mojave are as below:

In Windows 10, launch Command Prompt and I used most of the default setting. This wireless router is on a different subnet, so the IP address is also different and I have changed it to "iperf3 -p 5201 -c 192.168.1.30 -f m". You will see each respond corresponds to Mojave's prompt. Screenshots are as below:

Hope this helps someone out there trying to measure wireless router performance. When you read the instruction again in https://iperf.fr/iperf-doc.php you will find it easier to understand.

In conclusion, Trendnet AC1900 TEW-818DRU performed better.

Transforming phone number with alphabet into numeric phone number in Excel

2015-07-13T16:45:00.002+12:00

Recently, there is a need to transform phone number which consists of alphabet in the phone number itself into a numeric phone number. This is quite a normal process when you try to import leads into Salesforce.

For example, 0800CATCHME to be transformed into 08002282463

The logic is to substitute "A", "B", "C" with "2"; "D", "E", "F" with "3" and so on. In addition, I have also transformed the " " space with a non-space.

The original value is in cell A2. Put the following command in cell B2:
=SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(A2,"A","2"),"B","2"),"C","2"),"D","3"),"E","3"),"F","3"),"G","4"),"H","4"),"I","4"),"J","5"),"K","5"),"L","5"),"M","6"),"N","6"),"O","6"),"P","7"),"Q","7"),"R","7"),"S","7"),"T","8"),"U","8"),"V","8"),"W","9"),"X","9"),"Y","9"),"Z","9")," ","")

Please leave me a message or donate if you find this helpful. Thanks.

Firefox OS

2013-02-27T22:20:00.000+13:00

A big thank you to Mozilla for the invitation to Mozilla UK HQ in January 2013. The office in 101 St Martin’s Lane, London is pretty cool whereby Mozilla really spoil the developers by giving them great stuff - all on their account! It was an eye opening event whereby developers from Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, India, Pakistan and surprisingly I am the only person from New Zealand (Ocenia). We were given session on Firefox OS and later on we were given a Developer phone for us to develop apps for them. Stay tune for more exciting thing that I will be developing over the next few months. If you are keen to get a phone from them, please do not forget to register your interest. You can get more information from here
