Bobby Deol plays a hired killer in his latest "Ek - The Power of One", nine years after he played a similar role in "Bichhoo". The actor says he has no problem playing a negative role again.

"There were no apprehensions. Actors who play romantic heroes in most of the films don't get apprehensive before taking another such project; so why should I?" he said.

Directed by Sangeeth Sivan, "Ek" is a remake of Telugu film "Athadu" and also stars southern star Shriya Saran.

"Though I also did such a role in 'Bichhoo', this one is a far more stylised version of a professional killer. In fact I was very excited when I saw the southern version of 'Ek' and said yes to the role," Bobby told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

Known for his action image, the 39-year-old said that the action sequences in the film were something to look out for.

"The USP of the film is its action. It has been shot and choreographed very well and it will offer amazing action sequences to all action fans in the country. They'll love it," he said.

Bobby shrugged off media rumours that he jumped of the 14th floor for the film.

"My jump has been exaggerated in the media. I jumped only from the seventh floor, not 14th - though that was also scary enough," he laughed.

Bobby, who was last seen in "Dostana" with short cropped hair, was excited about his new look in "Ek".

"I sport a straightened hair look in the film. It's ironic that my hair has been straightened despite my constant advice to people that one should not get them straightened at all as it spoils your hair," the actor said.

The film has Nana Patekar playing a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inspector and Bobby is all praise for the 58-year-old's energy levels.

"Nana is a great guy. He is so agile and active. In fact, for his age, he is so fit and I really admire him for that," he said.

Apparently Nana almost always surprised the unit members with his energetic sprints and his rigorous gym sessions.

But Bobby too is known for his fit physique. What's the secret behind that?

"As far as my physical regime is concerned, I just do my usual workout including a bit of cardio. I don't work very specifically on my body for any one film," the actor said.

Asked if he also planned to venture into direction like his elder brother Sunny, he said: "I don't know. I can't foresee the future. It's a dream of every actor to direct a film some day, but who knows."

Bobby's future projects include "Cheers - Celebrate Life", "Roshan", "Formula No.44" and "Gangs of London".

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's smoking act during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match April 21 has not gone down well with the anti-smoking lobby which is trying to ensure that television footage of celebrities smoking should not be broadcast.The National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) said in a statement issued here Saturday that its counterpart South African National Council Against Smoking (NCAS) is lobbying with the official broadcasters to ensure that footage of smoking, especially by celebrities, should not be broadcast.

"We have sent the details to Supersport, who are the official broadcasters of the IPL and the NCAS is in the process of soliciting an agreement that they will not show anyone smoking," NCAS's convener Peter Ucko informed NOTE Friday.NCAS has said that television footage showing icons smoking dangerously increases the chances of children and other non smokers picking up the habit as they try to emulate their heroes.

NCAS, in its letter to NOTE, further said that while smoking in public places is still not banned in South Africa, the department of health there was very active in lobbying for the concept of no smoking in public places.

"If Khan does it again we will ask the management to caution him, or we will seek his removal from the stadium," the press note states.The NCAS has also assured that they would lobby with the chief executive officer of the Wandereres stadium Alam Kourie to enforce the 'no smoking in enclosed areas' law.

"We have also asked the stadium management to make no smoking announcements through the match and during drinks breaks."

‘8x10 Tasveer’ is written by Kukunoor and has music by Salim-Suleiman and Bohemia.

Review of Lottery

Ever solved a jigsaw puzzle? The plot of Lottery is tougher to crack. This one pretends to be a thriller, a love triangle next, a whodunit later, a musical in between and ends up as something else altogether. Can't figure out what this film is all about, seriously.

Besides, Lottery is meant to be the launch pad of singer Abhijeet Sawant. The sad news is, Abhijeet has chosen the wrong script to launch himself as an actor.

Rohit [Abhijeet Sawant] is an accountant working in an ad agency. An anonymous message asks him to accept a challenge. He does so and he wins Rs. 3 lacs. The wheels of fortune are set in motion. There are more challenges and bigger rewards. In reality, there's no stopping now. The story takes a turn when Rohit is accused of murder. His life goes upside down...

The film fails on the script level itself. It leaves so many questions unanswered, you actually wonder what was the writer/director thinking when he wrote this script? Direction [Hemant Prabhu] is amateurish. The music is no great shakes either.

Abhijeet needs to groom himself completely before he faces the camera next. The two leading ladies, Rucha Gujrathi and Manisha Kelkar, are decent. Sanjay Narvekar has a Nana Patekar hang-up. Mukesh Tiwari is wasted.

On the whole, this lottery ticket is best avoided!

Review of Aa Dekhen Zara

An interesting thought may not necessarily translate into an interesting screenplay. Aa Dekhen Zara is a prime example of this statement.

Think about it... A man inherits his grandfather's camera and with the camera comes the ability to see the future. What an idea, Sirji... But Aa Dekhen Zara is akin to a bottle of soda, which starts off with a lot of energy, but the fizz settles down faster than expected.

Aa Dekhen Zara had great potential to be a riveting thriller, but halfway through the film, you realize that the writers have run out of ideas. In fact, by the time the film reaches the finale, the viewer is terribly confused [like the writers of this film]. This is one jigsaw puzzle that remains unsolved even after its culmination.

In a nutshell, Aa Dekhen Zara promises the moon, but what you eventually get in return is merely a mirage.

Ray [Neil Nitin Mukesh], a struggling photographer, has nothing going for him... until he inherits a very special camera from his grandfather which changes his life in a way that he could not have imagined in his wildest dreams.

The power of the camera changes Ray's destiny overnight. His life becomes one big roller coaster ride that takes him from rags to riches and also helps him meet the love of his life, Simi [Bipasha Basu], who is a DJ with a mind of her own. Everything is hunky dory.

As they say with great power comes great responsibility and in Ray's case, also great danger. He must now face up to the dark side of reality and win not only against the evil forces, but also against fate.

Come to think of it, your imagination can run wild with a premise like the one in Aa Dekhen Zara. But the film runs out of fuel midway.

Director Jehangir Surti has an eye for visuals, but he ought to know that the viewer wants to listen to a Good story, told in the most simplistic manner. You ought to be extra careful if you're attempting a suspense thriller. You need to disentangle the knots in such a way that the mystery doesn't remain a mystery in the end. In this case, it still remains a mystery.

15 minutes into the film and you're drawn into Neil's world. You are exhilarated every time he wins a lottery or race. The introduction of the negative force [Rahul Dev] is smartly handled as well. But the plot slackens thereafter.

Let's get specific, the second hour is a problem. The screenplay should've packed some great moments, but the writers seem to take an easy way out. Sample this. While on the run, Neil and Bipasha suddenly break into a dance in a tacky pub. Prior to that they jump from the roof of the hotel and land Straight into the pool. The cat and mouse game gets more and more confusing with the finale only adding to the chaos.

Jehangir Surti can't do much since he's saddled with a poor script. Music is the sole saving grace. The songs are youthful and energetic, one of the reasons why Aa Dekhen Zara has generated tremendous interest. Cinematography is Good. The chase and stunts are well canned.

Neil Nitin Mukesh showed great promise in his debut film and you only expect him to climb the ladder in his next release. Sadly, the screenplay doesn't give him that opportunity. Bipasha Basu is alright. She looks great though. Rahul Dev is perfect for the part. Biswajeet [Neil's grandfather] has a tiny role. Sophie Chaudhary adds to the glamour quotient. She doesn't get much scope, frankly. Bobby Vats is okay.

On the whole, Aa Dekhen Zara had the potential to be an exciting fare, but the post-interval portions prove a deterrent. The fantastic promotion coupled with the popular musical score will ensure ample footfalls in the opening weekend, but the film lacks the stamina to run steadily.
