The rain goes away in Las Vegas late on Wednesday and seasonal temperatures return, hovering in the mid 50's. Overnight lows are still nippy, dipping into the mid 30's. Here is Las Vegas Weather for December 12-16, 2011.

Halloween In Vegas Is A Scary Time For All

Typical Vegas attire. Halloween is just amp'd up a bit.

You can feel the chill at night. The sun is setting a little sooner every day. Football has occupied almost two months of Sundays. Jumbo bags of candy cram Wal-Mart shelves. It must be time for Trick or Treating. Halloween in Vegas is a scary time for all.

If you're a tourist in Las Vegas for Halloween, there are plenty of wild costume parties to go to. To you, the tourist, the outfits may seem wild. What you don't know is that most of those people dress like that year round. Vegas is like Halloween 365 days a year, but only on one do you get candy.

Another thing that makes Halloween one of the most exciting holidays in Las Vegas is October 31st is Nevada Day. It's like a national holiday. Banks are closed. No mail. Government workers stay home and don't do any work, as opposed to doing the same at the office. But, seriously, Nevada Day is a big holiday. After 15 years, I still don't know what it's for. I could probably run it through Google and find out, but who cares? Ya get the day off. Ya get candy. And people look slightly weirder than they do the other 365 days a year.

Being a tourist with kids can be challenging in Vegas. Although, some of the casinos have afternoon Trick or Treating. Check with the concierge or the front desk. There might be something going on. Can't hurt to ask.

There is a Catholic Church, Christ The King, that had an event called Trunk or Treat. It was held in the church parking lot. People came, parked their cars and opened their trunks. Kids got to go around and get their sugary treats in a safe environment - because some of the neighborhoods in Vegas are really scary - and those are the nice ones.

People in Vegas don't make a habit of getting to know their neighbors. Halloween is the one time a year when you actually get to SEE the neighbors, but they're all in costumes, so you can't tell who they are. But, it was the effort of SEEING that counted, and in Vegas, that gets you through another day.

There is a certain creepiness about the Trick or Treating in most neighborhoods. However, the neighborhood I lived in when I was married was the best. Most of the houses had plenty of decorations and I'm talking serious bucks. Several homes had "shows" - strobe lights, music, recorded screams, animated dummies, and the person or two who was dressed like a scarecrow sleeping in a chair - that's the one that always made me drop a couple Baby Ruth's on their driveway before my daughter and I ran for the next house.

At least everyone gave out candy. Where I grew up, there were some real nutcases. They'd give you a cup of cider. What kid wants cider when there's 500 houses giving out CANDY. Then there were the old people who felt nickels were a nifty idea. They're dead now - thank God.

Wherever you are, I hope you have a fabulous Halloween. If you have kids, go to as many houses as they can stand. You only have a couple golden years with them when Halloween is nearly as magical as Christmas. And then they grow up and Halloween in Vegas is a scary time for all.

Las Vegas Weather August 12-16, 2011 + A Limo Tip

Temperatures just above 100º will prevail through Tuesday. There is a slight chance of a thunderstorm on Saturday. Usually, storms are quick and sporadic. It can rain like crazy in one part of the valley and never touch The Strip. Overall, Las Vegas Weather for August 12-16, 2011 will be comfortable. Plus, I have a tip that could make you feel like a high roller.

Vegas is a massive place when you're on the ground walking. If you plan on going from casino to casino, forget the high heels and flip-flops. Wear comfortable shoes. You don't realize how far you have to walk to get from the sidewalk to the casinos on the west side of The Strip. Do your feet a favor and get those comfy shoes on and have a great time.

WHAT ABOUT A LIMO?

Business has been down in Las Vegas and a lot of the service providers have dropped their prices. When things were booming about five or six years ago, a limo would cost $100 per hour. I've seen stretch limos with signs in the windows - $40 an hour.

If you have a gang, there is no more stylish way to enjoy the nightlife of Las Vegas than to be carted around in a limo. You can check with several companies when you get to Las Vegas by looking in the phone book. Or ask the Concierge.

Tell the limo company how many hours you want the limo for and see if they can cut a deal for you. If you have a gang, you can all split the cost. It will actually be cheaper than a cab and way cooler. And Vegas is all about showing your cool.

Just a thought. I've done it and I've never regretted it.

Las Vegas Weather - Aug. 10 - 14, 2011 And An Airport Tip

It will be hot today, Wednesday, August 10th, but the temperature will back down a few degrees through the rest of the week. Las Vegas Weather for August 10 -14, 2011 will be hot, but the nights will be fantastic. Plus, a tip on how to save a lot of money at the airport.

I can't stress it enough how important it is to keep yourself hydrated in the desert. In high heat, your body can lose as much as a quart of fluids per hour. Always carry water with you. If you perspire a lot, sports drinks replenish some of the electrolytes you lose, so keep them in mind as a beverage option as your seeing the sites.

AIRPORT SAVINGS

When people first arrive in Las Vegas, they are immediately hit with the ringing and dinging of slot machines. On the way out of town, those slot machines are still chiming away. The temptation to make one last bet is coaxing you toward the machines. STOP!

The slot machines at the airport are some of the tightest machines in all of Vegas. You're throwing your money away.

Also, do you souvenir shopping at gift shops along The Strip or off the beaten path. You'll pay a premium at the airport for those dice or that deck of cards with all the casinos on them.

Save yourself a few bucks by shopping and gambling wisely in Sin City. There are no deals at the airport.

Las Vegas Weather July 21-25, 2011 - Hot But Bearable - And A Tip

Temperatures will peak above 100º for the next five days. As long as they stay around 103º to 105º, I consider those temps to still be bearable. Above 105º, stay indoors. However, the nights will be wonderful, dipping to the low 80's for Las Vegas Weather July 21-25, 2011.

Make sure you stay hydrated all day long. If you have a refrigerator with a freezer in your room, take a couple water bottles, remove about an inch of water from each and freeze them. You can carry them around and they will gradually melt and give you nice cool water to drink as you're seeing the sites.

If you're hanging out at the pool, store the bottles out of direct sunlight and they should last through an afternoon of poolside fun.

COOL PLACE TO SEE THE BELLAGIO FOUNTAINS

If you want to get a spectacular view of the fountain show at the Bellagio, view them from atop the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas across the street. I was on the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower and saw the fountain show. It's still one of my best Las Vegas memories. Check local guides for fountain show times. They vary by season.

To Be Treated Like A VIP In Las Vegas, You Have To Act Like A VIP

Good tippers are treated more like VIP's in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas was built on making everyone feel important. Even if you just hopped off the Greyhound bus from North Dakota with $20 in your pocket, you were treated like a VIP, somewhere. Hospitality is still paramount in Sin City, but if you really want to be treated like a VIP in Las Vegas, you have to act like a VIP and that means - you tip - and tip large.

The grease that keeps the machinery of the people that serve you is Las Vegas is tipping. Most of the waitresses, dealers, doormen, bellman, valet parkers, etc. are getting a little bit better than minimum wage. Tips are what they rely on for survival. And there is nothing they hate worse than bad tippers, especially supposed VIP's that don't tip at all.

Michael Jordan, LeBron James and a number of other athletes and stars with plenty of money to burn at the gaming tables rarely tip the dealers and the servers. Then there are the people who are impossible to get along with, like Jerry Lewis, Elton John and Celine Dion. They're too demanding, demean employees and don't show any appreciation with cash.

Real VIP's in Vegas are not stingy. If you want a good table or a specific table with a view at a restaurant, the "Vegas Handshake" - a handshake with $10 or more in it - will get you your request pronto.

If you want great drinks, heavy pours, and outstanding service, slip a $5 or $10 on the bar and tell the bartender, "Take care of us, we'll be here a while." You will get treated like a first class VIP all night. You've told the bartender that you're serious and you speak the language of Las Vegas - cash.

If anyone handles your bags, give them at least $1 per bag. If it's really hot, throw in an extra buck or two - they've been catering to tourists in the heat all day and they'll greatly appreciate it.

Cocktail waitresses should get a minimum of $1 per drink when you are gambling.

For restaurants. I never tip less than 20%. Of course, I can count the number of times I've had bad service in Las Vegas on the fingers of one hand. There is a service mentality in Las Vegas that I have only seen at Disney theme parks.

Years ago, before assigned seating in showrooms, your seat was determined by the amount of money in your "Vegas Handshake" - A wad got you a VIP booth up front. A couple bucks might get you in the middle of the showroom. And the clueless tourists with no "Vegas Handshake" sat in the back and were sold binoculars.

Tip the dealers, especially if you are winning. There is nothing worse than seeing a guy walk away from the crap table with a pile of chips and not tip the dealers. When you play craps, it's customary to throw down a tip or make a bet on behalf of the dealers and say, "This is for the boys." Usually, all the dealers at the crap table will repeat, "Alright, one for the boys." And then they thank you.

In Las Vegas, the phrase, "Money talks, bullshit walks," has some truth to it. All of the service industry people are taught to treat every guest like they are special, but it if they get a little grease from a guest, it is human nature to step up their game.

Las Vegas Weather July 19-23, 2011 - Hot and Dry - Taxi Tip

Tuesday will be windy in Las Vegas. If you wear contact lenses, you may be better off wearing your glasses. Blowing dust really aggravates contact lens wearers. The rest of the week will be hot with a slight drop in temperatures. Las Vegas Weather for July 19-23, 2011 will be hot and dry, plus a tip on catching a taxi on The Strip.

With temperatures above 100º all week, I can't stress it enough on how important water is during your time in the desert. Every chance you get to drink water, take it. You'll avoid headaches, feel more refreshed and even look better. ;)>

And keep applying sunscreen if you are out and about.

TAXI TIP

It is illegal for a taxi cab to stop on The Strip. So, don't try to hail a cab. They won't stop. You can only catch a cab at a cab station at one of the casinos. Cabs are plentiful in Las Vegas and there is rarely a wait.

The most economical way to get up and down The Strip is to Take The Deuce Buses.

Craps is the only game where you can actually get an edge on the house. Ask the dealers if and when lessons are available. I love craps. It spells VEGAS to me.

During the 1990's when Las Vegas was being billed as a "family" destination, the management of the Riviera Hotel & Casino would have none of it. Behind closed doors, they hated kids and didn't want them running around their "old Vegas" casino.

To scare away families walking north on the east side of The Strip, the Riviera created a bronze statue to mimic the famous Crazy Girls promotional photo, which featured the thong covered butts of the cast. This slightly larger than life-size bronze has been a favorite photo op. It gets especially crazy when the alcohol has been flowing.

So, if you find yourself near the north end of The Strip, get on the east side of the street and grab a picture of the infamous Crazy Girls statue at the Riviera Hotel & Casino. It will certainly be a conversation piece when you get back home.

PS - The Riviera is where the movie Casino was filmed, staring Robert DeNiro.

Once the wind dies down on Wednesday, you'll be enjoying below average temperatures over the next five days. Las Vegas Weather - July 13-17, 2011.

Don't be fooled by the below average temperatures in Las Vegas this week. The UV index is 10+, which is considered extreme. Apply sunscreen as often as possible, especially if you plan on prolonged exposure to the sun - walking, lounging at the pool or any other outdoor activity.

Also, remember to drink plenty of water. The desert dryness drains your body of fluids - and booze does not count. LOL.

With the temperatures being so pleasant, this is a great time to consider an outdoor adventure like hiking at either Valley of Fire or Red Rock Canyon. Mt. Charleston is also beautiful this time of year. If you are interested in any of this hikes, check with your concierge for directions.

BUFFET TIPPING GUIDE

Even though you are serving yourself at a buffet, there are servers that are hustling drinks to your table, clearing plates as you fill up for the second or third time. Don't forget them. It is customary to tip at least $1 to $2 per person. Vegas is all about tipping.

When you want to get from one end of the Las Vegas Strip to the other, it is a long walk, and depending on the time of year heat, wind or cool temps could make it an uncomfortable walk. The easiest way to get to your favorite Las Vegas resort is to take the Deuce Buses on The Las Vegas Strip.

The gold double-decker Deuce Buses are climate controlled and run 24-hours. A 2-hour all-access pass is $5.00; however, the $7.00 24-hour pass is the best deal. If you're going to be in Las Vegas for several days a 3-day pass is $20.00.

Las Vegas Weather for July 6-10, 2011 looks very nice and clear. Temps will be around 100 most days, which is wonderful for the desert in the summer. Evenings will be very enjoyable with overnight lows in the mid 80's.

Make sure you drink plenty of water and apply sunscreen several times a day - if you're outside - you don't need sunscreen to play craps. LOL.

VALET PARKING

If you drive into Las Vegas, you can use Valet Parking at your hotel or any other hotel in town. In fact, it is much easier to Valet Park and have your luggage handled by the Bellman when you are checking in. Valet Parking is FREE. However, it is customary to tip $1 to $2 when you retrieve your vehicle. Tip the Bellman $1 per bag, once you get to your room.

Every Las Vegas hotel has ample FREE parking. But since you're in VEGAS, BABY, splurge and spend the extra couple bucks for the Valet.

Hotel guests get preference at their hotel for Valet Parking, unless it fills up. The same applies at other Strip properties. You can use the Valet Parking, but in the evenings, especially if there is a special event at the hotel, you may not be able to use the Valet.

Following the heat of the Fourth of July weekend, Las Vegas Weather through July 8th, 2011 looks nice with a little heat. Overall, a great week to be in the desert.

When temperatures hover around 100º it is very manageable for locals and tourists in Las Vegas. Clouds will fill the skies on Monday and Tuesday, which to Las Vegans is actually a treat. You can get tired of sun, sun, sun, sun, sun... LOL.

Evenings and nights should be spectacular with temps in the mid-80's.

Thursday, there is a 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms. When it rains in Las Vegas, it comes down quick and in spots. You never get a whole day of drizzle or steady rain. This forecast for rain is more a hint than an actual threat. We'll have to see how the forecast shapes up the closer we get to Thursday.

AWAY FROM THE STRIP

If you're looking for activities away from The Strip, this would be a great week to see Red Rock Canyon.

Red Rock Canyon, 12 miles west of Las Vegas following Charleston Blvd., is one of the premier rock climbing and hiking venues in the world. It is absolutely gorgeous. And the weather will be perfect for enjoying the park.

The park has a visitor's center that details the history of the area and its pre-historic roots. To see the park area, it is $5.00 per vehicle. Red Rock Canyon is viewed on a 13-mile, one-way loop. Posted speed limit is 15 MPH, but you may want to go slower. Lots of places to stop and take pictures.

Las Vegas Weather for July 1-5, 2011 - prepare for extreme heat on Saturday and Sunday - 110º and 108º respectively. Do not forget to carry water with you daily.

July 4th Weekend looks like it will be smoking hot, at least for Saturday and Sunday. Temps will be closer to the 100º mark on Monday and Tuesday.

Walk in the morning or the evening. Hit the pool or beat the lines at the buffet with an early dinner. Stay indoors as much as you can during peak temperatures. The valley reaches its peak temperature around 4 pm - and all the concrete retains the heat, which makes it feel even hotter.

Sobriety Checkpoints All Over Las Vegas For July Fourth Weekend - Take Cab, Bus or Limo

Metro Police will be out in force with sobriety checkpoints.

When you get to Las Vegas, you have to grab a drink or plunk some money in a machine and get a "FREE" drink. As the "FREE" drinks flow, you can easily get too far out on the limb. A word of caution: Sobriety checkpoints will be all over Las Vegas for July Fourth Weekend - take a cab, bus or limo.

Don't ruin you trip by driving drunk in Las Vegas. It's too easy to take a cab, take a bus or if you have a gang, rent a limo. With business down in Las Vegas, limos were going for about $35 to $50 an hour. If you have five or six people, and they each chip in $20 or $30, you can go all over town in style and never worry about anyone getting busted or worse - hurting someone else.

Keep in mind, the longer you rent the limo, the better the hourly rate should be. Shop around. You could have an absolute blast. I've done it several times and it was well worth it.

Also, you cannot hail a cab on the street in Las Vegas - it's against the law. You can only get a cab at a cab stand at a hotel or casino.

With sobriety checkpoints all over Las Vegas for the Fourth of July weekend, do the smart thing and take a cab, bus or limo.

Have a great time, but do it responsibly.

Where To Watch The Fireworks In Las Vegas On July 4th Weekend, 2011

Caesars Palace could be best spot for fireworks.

Usually, there has been a large display of fireworks on The Strip in Las Vegas, which involved most of the major properties. However, this year, only Caesars Palace and Mandalay Bay are hosing fireworks on The Strip. However, there are plenty of locations where you can see the bombs bursting in air. I'll give you some tips on where to watch fireworks in Las Vegas on July 4th, 2011.

Probably the best deal for seeing fireworks in Las Vegas will be the show put on from the top of the Roman Tower at Caesars Palace. From what I can tell, there is no charge and all you have to do is be in the vicinity. Make note: This show is on July 3rd and kicks off at 9:15 pm.

Mandalay Bay will host a fireworks display and a concert by Mystic Roots. Cost is $25. Doors open at 8 pm on the 4th.

After another windy day today and a second day of under 100º temperatures today and tomorrow, the heat returns. Las Vegas Weather for Jun 29 - July 3, 2011 will have heat, drink plenty of water, apply sunscreen regularly and stay by the pool.

When I first moved to Las Vegas, I was good up until about 103º. Over the years, I added a few degrees to that. Once temperatures went above 105º, it was time to stay inside or by the pool. I'm sure the same will apply to you, if you're headed to Las Vegas for the weekend.

TIP: You have no idea how much you are perspiring in Las Vegas because your sweat evaporates almost immediately. As a result, it is very easy to get dehydrated. Make sure you drink plenty of water this week. If you drink alcohol, every other drink or every third drink should be water. Alcohol only speeds up the dehydration process.

Do your walking early in the morning or at dusk and at night. If you're committed to seeing the The Strip during the day, take the Deuce buses - double-deck buses - to get from one end of The Strip to the other.

Have a great time. If you want to learn a casino game, check with any of the pit bosses, concierge or casino hosts and the casino most likely offers free lessons. Don't just sit at a slot machine the whole time you're in Vegas. Play!
