I have been putting off writing this because everyone, for one reason or another, pretty much feels the same way I do: disappointed. I’m not disappointed with the outcome. I didn’t care who she ended up with; as long as Sookie got what she wanted I was fine, even though it did seem kind of abrupt. My opinion might be colored by the fact that Harris said she was just tired of these characters, but I felt it showed in the book. It was anticlimactic, lacking passion, hurried, and the book story arc was uninspiring. Two of the major players' endings weren’t brought to a satisfying conclusion and many of the secondary ones weren't either. I’m not that hard to please; killing them off would have been better because it would give me some emotional closure for these people! At least I would know how things turned out for them. But to be fair, Harris is releasing a book at the end of the year to let us know what happened to all the other characters. And let’s not forget she has a new series coming out and she has said some characters from her other novels will be popping up in that one. So that might be a reason for leaving some endings open.

Now it sounds like I am bashing this book, but I’m not! I adore Sookie. Sometimes an author can write a character that you connect to on many levels. This is what I love about first person POV, the character’s emotions are more real to me. Harris’s writing style made me feel so comfortable in Sookie’s head. The way she thinks and her outlook on life is a lot like mine. So this wasn’t my favorite book of the series, so what? The series as a whole has brought me a lot of reading pleasure and I can’t thank Harris enough for that.

But, hey, it sure has been a fun thrillride so far, and this third issue takes it even further with a harrowing chase inside and out of the compound.

Yet again, with the stark and simple black-and-white illustrations, each panel leaps off the page as vibrant as anything Pixar could come up with. And with only one issue left to go, I'm chomping at the bit to find out what happens next.

The Losers was good. Snapshot is great.

Big WOW! Comic Fest 2013

Big Wow! Comic Fest is held yearly in San Jose, CA. Hosting one of the biggest Bay Area conventions for all ages. From strollers to walkers, convention goers can enjoy the wide variety this amazing event has going on.

If you're looking to enjoy some informative panels, Big Wow offered a range of topics from drawing without paper to costuming tips! Marvel Comics demigod, Stan Lee, was in the house this year to take photos and answer fan questions. A true legend!

We had a ton of fun and got to meet some exciting people and awesome cosplayers. Take a look!

We meet up with Mat Heagerty, the writer/creator of Just Another Sheep. Baaart had a blast talking all things sheep with this awesome dude. We look forward to having Mat over for a guest post later this year.

Since the main character, Enrique Garcia, is posing quite effectively as his best friend, Tyler Shainline, while attending the Five Weapons School, I'm just going to refer to him as Shainline. It's ... just easier that way.

Anyway, Five Weapons #2 left off with Shainline challenging the biggest bully on campus (figuratively speaking), Rick the Stick, leader of the Staff Club. And just like he did with the Knife Club's president, Jade the Blade, Shainline handily wins the challenge without the aid of a weapon of his own. But by doing so, he's further drawn the ire of the school's faculty, led by Principal O.

At this point in the series, the middle-grade vibe has basically taken over, with action and dialogue that feels perfectly suited for a Saturday morning cartoon. He's making friends, has a crush on the cute knife-wielding girl, and his enemies are shaking their fists in anger. No one, however, has discovered his true identity though, and that may be at risk when Joon the Loon is tasked with spying on him to learn his weakness.

The cleverness of the series has reached a peak with me at this point, and Shainline's evasiveness and demeanor is starting to come off as smarmy when interacting with his opponents. At least he retains likability during the breaks between action scenes, bantering with his new friends. Where the apt pupil schtick is running a little thin, the intrigue and suspense involving Shainline being found out, and even potentially defeated, is building nicely. And that helps to keep me interested in the rest of the series.

Still not sure why he is attending the school under false pretenses, so I'm hoping the fourth issue clears that up.

Top 5 Things You Should Know About Dating A Wolf Shifter

I’ve recently found myself in a pickle of a situation. You see, I’m not human, but neither am I considered ‘normal’ for the supernatural Other community my family comes from. Because of that, they’ve hidden me in a small town away from all Others my entire life. Then I decided to leave that small town before my loving family inadvertently smothered me with their good intentions, and landed the opportunity of my dream job on a big city SWAT team. Problem is, my first day on the job I met this guy, Adam. Maybe calling Adam ‘a guy’ is a joke. He’s more than just some guy. He’s an Alpha wolf shifter of a powerful Pack, who gives a new definition to the words determined and growly. So I’ve decided to put together warning list for all other women who find themselves suddenly the object of obsession by one of these possessive wolves.

1) Shifter males give a new definition to the word possessive. If they could tattoo the word ‘MINE’, or ‘Property of ____’, all over every inch of your skin and get away with it, you better believe they’d do it in a heartbeat. Even if they had to knock you unconscious in order to get it done. Since they can’t do the tattoo thing, they tend to try and make sure you’re claimed with creative ways of covering your body in their scent. There’s also this viscous bite they want to give you that covers your neck, called a mating Mark. At this point, I’m blatantly ignoring the similarities between a Shifter’s possessive behavior and the profiles they taught us about stalker type tendencies in the Police Academy for my sanity’s sake.

2) Something hairy is bound to happen at any moment. Pun intended. No, seriously, beware ladies. These guys can drop their drawers and shift to their beasts at any given moment. So I hope you’re not shy about nudity because it certainly doesn’t bother them. However, it can be a bit embarrassing if they try to get naked in public. Human Police Officers tend to want to arrest them for breaking public indecency laws. This can be annoying.

3) Common misconception humans have about Wolf Shifters, or as they like to call them ‘Werewolves’. Wolf Shifters DO NOT howl at a full moon. However, they do suffer from extreme bouts of whatever emotion they’re feeling. Rage, curiosity, playfulness, or lust. Any of these can lead to roars of rage, temper tantrums of epic proportions, and sporadic shifts that can lead to jubilant howls as they chase their prey. If you get caught in this type of situation, you better hope you’re not the prey. If it’s the surge of lust you get to experience though, enjoy!

4) Whatever you do, do not flirt with another male, no matter the race, while you are in your Wolf’s vicinity. Aggressive species, remember? Especially if your Wolf Shifter hasn’t had the chance to Mark you yet. It could lead to the death of some poor unsuspecting schmuck.

5) Beware their bite! The man wants to gnaw on my neck like it’s a chew toy and he thinks I’ll be okay with it! Can you believe that? Everyone around me says that it’s one of the most sacred things in the Shifter culture, to receive the Mark from your mate. You’re supposed to display it with pride so that everyone in the Other community can see their equivalent of a wedding band. All I can think about is not wanting to look like a used chew toy. What’s wrong with these people?! Of course, if Adam gets his paws on me one more time to lay some of those scorching hot kisses on my lips, I may forget my reservations about that scary sounding bite and let him Mark, Mark, Mark away.

So, Rex winds up having to duke it out with his doppleganger down in the pool, which comes with its own unique challenges, and ultimately Rex walking away with "Double guns, Baby!"

Meanwhile, their dwarf comrade in arms has finally washed up on shore looking a little green around the gills. On the bright side, at least he doesn't have gills, though the glowing red eyes are a new accessory since getting expelled from Hell.

A little less action, but even more humor, is what comprises this Skullkickers issue. And it looks like Rex and Kusia have an army of apes to back them up in their impending battle with Thool. But hard to say how the dwarf fits into the picture, as he has a headstart over them in getting to the fortress that lies at the center of the tropical island of doom.

The least engaging issue for me so far, but considering how phenomenal the previous issues were, the bar is set incredibly high and this is still a darned good book to keep fans of the series salivating for more. And the artistic reference material included at the back of the issue was equally comical. Eagerly anticipating Secret Skullkickers #1 (Skullkickers #22).

This is my first Felicity Heaton novel and I had high hopes for it. It didn't let me down.

Unleash isn't a warm and fuzzy paranormal romance where the tortured vampire meets his match, falls in love and battles the big bad who wants to take his happy ending away. Snow is the big bad that is trying to prevent a happy ending. He suffers from bloodlust and the uncontrollable urge to maim and kill that comes with it. He's succumbed to it before, resulting in a massive and tragic personal loss for Snow.

Heaton drags Snow's past out in painful pieces that serve as a reminder that this is a character who may not be able to be saved and if he can be saved, it is going to be a lifelong battle with many setbacks. Snow is unpredictable, almost as if he has two separate personalities inside of him. It's ironic that the chance at saving his dark, blood stained soul comes in the form of a curious angel. While Aurora may not be the physical butt kicker that readers are used to in paranormal romances, it doesn't mean she can't hold her own with Snow. She's quiet in her defiance, intelligent and ever hopeful.

Snow and Aurora's relationship is based more on an emotional connection, rather than a sexual one. Sure they're attracted to one another but with Snow being so unpredictable, he keeps his distance from Aurora for awhile, instead giving them both a chance to get to know each other and establish trust. Something I gather is very new for Snow. It's a great balance to an otherwise dark, tumultuous story. There's never a dull moment with this pair, they're each others' salvation, as unlikely as it seems.

For readers who want to give this series a try, it's best that you start at the beginning. Technically, each book can be a stand alone, but trying to remember who is mated to whom and what their connection to Snow is made reading Unleash a little slower. Something that probably wouldn't be an issue if I had read the series from the beginning.

Things are going to get kind of hectic. So Virginia is here to give us many reason why this is a bad idea.

10 - The Fertility Issue Vampires can’t have kids, everyone knows that. Some of them can be pretty touchy about it. Even if they’ve had time to get used to the idea, it’s still a difficult topic for some of them. And even if they say they’re fine with the whole thing, who knows what they really think?

9 - The In-Laws Bad enough when your MIL is human and tries to tell you all about her pregnancy with your SO whenever she can catch you unaware. Now when she’s got fangs and has lived hundreds of years and expects everyone to jump when she raises an eyebrow and (you suspect) she has killed for more frivolous reasons than that… *gulp*

8 - The Blood When pregnant, your monthly friend goes on vacation, which hey, nice break. But when your SO is a vampire and doesn’t mind blood AT ALL to the point that it might (absolutely hypothetically) drive him even more wild in bed (or rather in the large shower) than usual… Hypothetically, it’d be a pity to deprive yourself him from such fun (albeit messy) times.

7 - The Future Vampires and sunlight go together just about as well and gasoline and a flame. Which means that when the Offspring grows up and goes to school, birthday parties, the zoo, the beach, various games and outdoors activities, guess who’s going to be the driver 100% of the time? And you can’t even blame your SO because it’s not his fault if he’s highly flammable.

6 - The Birth Certificate Try explaining to those nice clerks that yes, you do want your SO’s name on the birth certificate even though he’s a vampire and A) is physiologically incapable of fathering a child as well as B) legally has no right whatsoever to raise or claim custody of a child. Of course your SO flashing his fangs at said clerks might help…

5 - The Explanations
And speaking of explanations, try explaining to your friends and family who know about your SO’s fangs how exactly you became pregnant. Bonus points if they did not know about the fangs until you start explaining.

4 - The Donor How do you choose the donor? Do you just pick some random guy on a catalog and hope he didn’t lie about his IQ and eye color, or do you ask a trusted friend, who might happen to be in a relationship with vampires himself, and wow that’s an entire new can of worms you’re opening there. Extra juicy when you don’t actually plan it and it just happens, to everybody’s surprise.

3 - The Cravings When you crave a double fudge, extra nuts, chocolate sprinkles, whipped cream, vanilla and pineapple sundae with two cherries on top and pickle on the side and there is no pickle left and you finished the sprinkles two days ago and it’s three in the afternoon on a bright sunny day, guess who’s going to have to get dressed to go buy the necessary ingredients for your treat? Not Mr. Flammable, that’s for sure.

2 - The Biting If you’re in a relationship with a vampire, presumably you don’t mind him biting you. And why would you mind, really? If he has any clue what he’s doing - and chances are, he has perfected it to an art - biting you can be as enjoyable to you as it is to him. If performed at the right time during a sexual encounter, it can be pretty mind-blowing, and there’s nothing hypothetical about that one. So having to cut down on the biting because your body should be feeding your baby rather than your lover… it’s almost as tragic as having to forgo sex.

1 - The Sex Speaking of sex… Now my experience of sex with vampires is admittedly limited seeing how I haven’t had that many vampire partners (well, three, if you want to go by whom I shared a bed with but part of it is debatable) but from my small sample (and I don’t mean ‘small’ in any kind of anatomical meaning) I have found out that vampires enjoy kinky sex. I mentioned the biting already, and the only-in-the-shower fun, but there’s more to it, including toys used and/or worn by either of us, positions, situations… Ahem. Being told by the doctor to keep things ‘vanilla’ in the bedroom was the most frustrating part of this whole experience, and those 9+ months, counting the recovery, seemed reeeeeally long. Then again, the end result was definitely worth it. And watching your SO’s eyes light up when he holds your child… forget these 10 reasons, just find yourself a vamp and go for it ;)

As Brett Andrews, owner of the famous club On The Edge, reaches the big ‘four-O,’ he has one request and one question for his two vampire lovers, Leo and Lisa: he doesn’t want them to organize any sort of celebration for him – but he does want to know why neither of them has ever mentioned the possibility of turning him into a vampire.
