If fate would have willed, smart and beautiful Neha Hinge may have made her debut with Madhur Bhandarkar’s film Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji, but now she is all set to make her bow with Madhur’s friend Joe Rajan’s maiden film as a director- Luv U Soniye in which she has been teamed in the romantic lead opposite none other than Tanuj Virwani, the handsome and dashing son of actress Rati Agnihotri.

Neha confesses that she is in films today only because she had won the crown of Miss India. “When Madhur selected me as Bombay Diva, which was a part of the Miss India pageant, he told me that he would sign me on for his film Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji, but it did not materialize for reasons best known to Madhurji”, quips Neha.

How did Joe Rajan discover you I ask Neha. Pat comes the reply, “It was Madhur who had suggested to Joe that he should cast me in his film Luv U Soniye, when he told Madhur that he was all set to make his debut in films as a director with his film Luv U Soniye. Joe signed me on as the leading lady of his film even without me giving any audition. On hindsight, I think that whatever happens in life happens only for the better, because nothing can be better than a film, with which you are making your debut with a title role.”

The reason she decided to make her bow with a new production house like that of Joe Rajan and not wait till a big banner like say that of Yash Chopra offered to launch her, is that she had to start somewhere. “All that I can say with due respect is that Yash Chopra is Yash Chopra but all of us have the capacity to reach that place slowly and steadily, since Rome was not built in one day. Joe is one director, who knows exactly what he wants from his actors. Joe lets us give variations in our expressions and besides being creative, also takes ideas from each and every one on the sets, from the spot boy to the light boy.”

Neha confesses that it was not at all difficult for her to portray her character effortlessly, because in the first place, she plays a sweet and cultured young girl, who loves her family and always makes it a point to fight for what is good. To let her get into the skin of her character, Joe asked voice teacher Joy to help her now the technicalities of modulation of her voice and also subjected Tanuj and her to exercises, which helped them build up chemistry between both of them.

Neha admits that her parents have always treated her like a son. “My father told me to go ahead and avail of the opportunity when the offer to act landed in my lap. Though I had heard horror stories about the casting couch in the film industry, I realized that it is not the case when I started working. I now know that it is only women who want to be exploited, get exploited in Bollywood. If you are strong, no one on earth can force you to do something that you do not want to do.”

What is your take on exposure? I ask Neha point blank. “As an actress, I certainly would love to look glamorous on the screen. I am quite confident about my body and am even ready to flaunt it. However, if it is not required, I am not game for exposure. I am okay as far as lip-locks are concerned and also can look hot, but please no Mallika Sherawat kind of role in films like Murder for me, because I do not want to get saddled with that kind of image as far as I am concerned.”

Neha confesses that she had turned down an offer some time back when the producer asked her to appear in a bikini in his film, because the role was not at all appealing enough for her to say yes. “If it is shot aesthetically like it was on Priyanka Chopra in Dostana or Kareena Kapoor in Tashan, I do not mind at all appearing in a bikini,” asserts Neha.

When I ask her whether she fell in love with her co-actor Tanuj while the shooting of the film was on, Neha signs off by stating that she is still single and her search for the Mr Right is on and adds, “You should not mix your personal life with your professional life.”

Movies like "Sunset Boulevard" and "Barton Fink" helped us imagine what life was like the writers in the Hollywood of big studios. Knowing that the film was made much money (and overly so fast), it was normal posh writers sell their soul to the devil in exchange for the glare of tinsel. Sacrificing the integrity of his previous literary commitment in favor of accepting the suggestions from the offices they were doing. At the end of the day, no matter how grown they were, they entered through the door of the study, were not just another brick in the wall, another link in the chain.

The Good news: The film more than makes up for it with the mother of all Indian movie climaxes, where Rajni is King Kong, he is the Incredible Hulk, he is Iron Man, he is a Transformer, and he is the Anaconda. He is everything you have seen in special effects laden Hollywood flicks. Heck, in one scene, pinned to giant magnet with his arms stretched, he even does a menacing Hannibal Lecter lunge.

Neatly bookended between these two scenes is Rajnikanth's biggest ever movie.

When regular hits became the norm, Rajni recalibrated his own benchmark for stardom with Baasha in 1996. In the 14 years since, directors have tried everything to make Rajni bigger than he already was. There was Baasha itself, where he had his greatest backstory unraveled after much intrigue. There was Padaiyappa, which pitted him against the most memorable lady villain in Tamil cinema. And then there was Sivaji, where he comes back from the dead. There was nothing more to be done, or so we thought.

Then comes a movie like Robot, where Rajni is the hero, villain, comedian and a multitude of henchmen. He even appears in drag in a song. Muthalvan/Nayak was said to be the greatest Rajnikanth movie in which he did not act in. Shankar rectifies that in Robot, which is the greatest yet for star and director. This is the first time in many years that a director has brought something to the table that enhances a Rajni movie. Along with it, he also proves that if you want to make a Rs 150 crore film, he is the go-to man.

The movie is not so much science fiction as much as it is about finding the right excuse to enable Rajni do what he usually does, and make it look plausible.

Dr Vaseegaran (Rajni) creates a humanoid robot, Chitti, (also Rajni) after 10 years of labour, during which he has hardly has any time for his parents or girlfriend Sana (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan [ Images ]). Attempting to plant emotions into the robot backfires as the robot takes a liking for Sana, at which point the good doctor decides to destroy it. In steps the evil scientist Dr Bhora (Danny Denzongpa [ Images ]) who not only resurrects Chitti but also turns him into a killing machine.

The film's first set piece takes some time coming, but is well worth the wait. From then on it is relentless action, culminating in a climax that will be hard to better for some time to come.

It is so much of a Rajni show that even regular characters that usually get some screen space like parents (we see them in two scenes), friends (Karunas and Santanam are completely overshadowed by Rajni even in the comedy scenes), heroine (every director in the past decade has tried in vain to pair Rajni and Ash, but she still does not have much to do) and villain (a powerful actor like Danny hardly registers his presence) are marginalised.

But in what little screen time they get together, what these two stars share is an easy camaraderie more than any great chemistry. It works in this case.

In retrospect, it is hard to imagine who else could have done this movie, and -- forget doing it so well -- merely even pulled it off. There are things in this movie that Rajni the villain does to Rajni the hero, which had any other actor done, would have seen theatres going up in flames.

In the end, this movie is as much about special effects as it is about Rajni. Overall, they may not be Avatar good, but they will definitely hold their own when compared with regular Hollywood action movies. And remember, while a Matrix cost $200 million, this was made for $30 million. But the effects are by a distance the best we have seen in Indian cinema.

On the flip side, there are enough bloopers for the movie to deserve its own section in our series. It is a tad too long, and the music is not exactly A R Rahman's [ Images ] best work. But these things seem to have been deliberately overlooked. The intent is clear from the beginning: To make a Rajni showcase like no other. By pitting him versus himself, Shankar has found just the right way to make Rajni just that much more larger than life.

While it is a given that we all like good vs evil, there is a visceral pleasure when both look the same -- like Rajni. There are places you root for the deviant robot to triumph over its creator. As he lusts after Sana and bays for his creator's blood, Rajni channelises some of his best badass acts from the past, chiefly Alex Pandian in Moondru Mugam.

Rishi-Neetu re-defined romance in Hindi films in the '70s. Are you all set to re-create the same magic in Do Dooni Chaar?
Rishi: Those days were fun. In those films, Khullam khulla we (Neetu and I) proposed to each other, danced around the trees, did all sorts of childish things. But after 30 years, we are now talking about sanskar (moral values) and aadarsh (principles). While everyone calculates do aur do paanch, we are that jodi who is more concerned about bringing up our children as good human beings so that they know two multiplied by two makes four, not five.

What took Neetu so long to comeback in films (she did a cameo in Luv Aaj Kal in 2009)?
Rishi: I will answer you why Neetu is back in films after 30 years. This film takes our on-screen love story a step forward. Only haasi mazak (having fun) ya thumka lagane se (dancing crazily) a pair doesn't become a successful couple on-screen. It was essential for Neetu and I to come back together on celluloid and show how the Khel Khel Mein love has matured in these 30 years.

What was the first thing you realized when faced each other in front of the camera?
Rishi: We have grown old. (Laughs)
Neetu: Well, I don't want to praise him (Rishi). I started working in films at a very young age. At that time I didn't realize what a great actor he is! Now, while shooting for Do Dooni Chaar, I realized the actor in him.
Can you associate your real selves with that of the Duggals in Do Dooni Chaar?
Neetu: Absolutely. In Do Dooni Chaar we are playing a middle-class couple, who has two kids. The family dreams of owning a car. In real life too, I consider myself as middle-class. Today's middle-class housewife is like Mother India…she manages so many things.
Rishi: I had great fun doing this film. Throughout my career I had the image of a lover boy, songster…I always had a glamourous image. From there to playing a Punjabi middle-class teacher is really a new experience for me. Also, this character shows how to handle speed breakers in life with courage and honesty. In my life also, I had to overcome a number of speed breakers.
Your film is releasing almost the same time when Ranbir's Anjaana Anjaani hits the theatres. So, you two are all set to give a tough competition to him?
Rishi: All I can say is, this is the era of Ranbir Kapoor. And his parents are daring to compete with him. (Laughs)

Written and directed by Anusha Rizvi in his first experience as a director, the film stars Naya Theatre Company member Omkar Das Manikpuri as Raghubir Yadav, Shalini Vatsa Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Malaika Shenoy together with a number of newcomers. The first time director Anusha has not only written a taut screenplay, but also carried the story effectively. It seems that the film is his attempt to enlighten the audience on the social dilemma that our country is facing and his experience as a journalist is clearly visible in his narrative. Actors - by Omkar Das, Raghuvir Shalini Vatsa and short tempered as a wife of Nath Dhania Malaika Shenoy and Vishal Sharma - are too bright. If Omkar Raghuvir and bring to light the plight of farmers, Shalini, a M. Phil from Jawaharlal Nehru University, should be applauded for his role with such ease and perfection. The problem here is beyond farmers 'suicide'. The film tackles the growing gap between India and how it is shining over others. It 's also a tribute to hero Rizvi of Premchand Hori from' Godan ', whose fate remains unchanged even if the faces that represent the forces continue to change. The policy response and the media frenzy surrounding the suicide Natha to evoke much laughter, but the pathos of the story makes the film transmits its message successfully.

Star Wars (Twentieth Century-Fox, 1977)

Harrison Ford plays Han Solo, a swashbuckling space pilot and rogue adventurer who aids Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in his battle with the evil Empire. This is the picture that started the entire Star Wars series, one of the most successful movie franchises in Hollywood history. It also provided a huge lift to Ford’s then struggling film career, with the actor gaining notoriety as the popular, dashing Han Solo.

Sabrina (Paramount, 1995)

Harrison Ford plays Linus Larrabee, a wealthy scion who schemes to save a corporate merger as well as his brother’s upcoming marriage by romancing young interloper Sabrina Fairchild (Julia Ormond). The plan works, but complications ensue, with the roguish Linus unintentionally falling in love with his quarry. A remake of the 1954 romantic comedy of the same title starring William Holden, Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn, 1995’s Sabrina lives up to the original, with Ford, Ormond and Greg Kinnear all delivering superb performances.

American Graffiti (Universal, 1973)

Harrison Ford plays Bob Falfa, a cowboy-hat wearing hot rodder cruising the fun streets of 1962 California in his boss, midnight black 1955 Chevy. Ford’s role is small but memorable, as he searches for Big John Milner (Paul Le Mat), hoping to challenge him for the unofficial title of fastest car in the Valley. Falfa and Milner eventually meet at dawn on Paradise Road amidst burning rubber, smoking engines and steely-eyed stares.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 1
In the first of the two-part movie adaptation of J K Rowling's seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series, the young wizard returns with best friends Ron and Hermione in tow seeking the elusive Horcruxes, linked with the destruction of his ultimate nemesis, Lord Voldemort.Director David Yates, who helmed the previous Order of the Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince is in charge of the final installment, which is split in two films owing to its lengthy chapters as well an eye for multiple profit, lending the fantasy its characteristically escalating dark theme.Grim elements aside, the much anticipated franchise also features its leading man Daniel Radcliffe drop his shirt (and pants) for a scene. Some USP, eh?

Iron Man 2
Fresh off playing Sherlock Holmes, Robert Downey Jr shows us his true mettle (or metal, if you please) as a billionaire cum superhero in the latest sequel to Iron Man.While The Wrestler's Mickey Rourke signs up to play a comic-book villain, namely Whiplash in a cast featuring the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johannson and Don Cheadle, Iron Man 2 is already drawing enough attention to promise a bumper opening.The plot is said to go something like this: Now that Tony Stark's Iron Man status is out in the open, his super-powered technology is eyed by many a power-hungry miscreants. How he doesn't let the baddies have their way is what this film is all about.

Shutter Island
Based on Dennis Lehane's novel, whose earlier work Mystic River was adapted into an Oscar-winning film by Clint Eastwood, Shutter Island is a crazy jigsaw of deceit and mystery set in the 1950s.A US Marshal is send to a Boston asylum to investigate the disappearance of a patient with a criminal past only to discover there's more to the claustrophobic hospital and its horrific workings than meets the eye.A Martin Scorsese film is enough to get our curious side up. Plus, it stars his recurring favourite Leonardo DiCaprio. The two have previously collaborated on three projects Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Departed. Worth the price of admission, you think?

Inception
Christopher Nolan takes a break from Batman's suit to construct a Matrix-like scenario where mind is the 'architecture' and 'scene of crime' and an idea is the 'most resilient parasite'. Though not much is revealed in Inception's ambiguous trailer, there's enough to grab your attention.Again, starring DiCaprio, the man has quite a few aces up his sleeve this year, the upcoming sci-fi drama features him as a businessman engaging in mind games of the uncanny kind.Going by Nolan's past record, it's usually a case of as good as it gets.

Alice in Wonderland
Tim Burton doesn't do conventional. Then again Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass is not your regular fairy tale. Even if Disney's cutesy animated version has psyched us into believing just that.The masterful filmmaker twists and bends the stereotypes, employing animation and live-action, to present his trademark take of its spirited heroine and her run-ins with some truly whimsical characters.And when Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter, Anne Hathway as The White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Michael Sheen as White Rabbit, Stephen Fry as Cheshire Cat and Alan Rickman as Caterpillar join the party, it's going to be one hell of an adventure.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
Bella and Edward return to romance in the latest Twlight vehicle, Eclipse.While Twlight was mostly harmless fun, New Moon ushered in utter disappointment, box office notwithstanding. Even as the insanely popular Stephanie Meyer novels about two star-crossed lovers a vampire and a mortal continues to rake in the moolah, its big screen version has made international heartthrobs out of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.The question now is will Bella give up her human ways and marry Edward to adopt a bloodsucker's lifestyle? And what about her unresolved feelings for Jacob, a werewolf with a softie's heart and rollicking six-packs? Superficial and soppy but oh-so-sexy, that's the world of Twilight for you.

Shrek Forever After
First: He rescued the princess.Second: He turned Prince Charming.Third: He became dad to triplets.The lovable green ogre is at it again. Aching to get back to his ogre ways, he signs a pact with Rumpelstiltskin only to realise he's been tricked. Now the world is something else where Fiona and he haven't even met and Donkey doesn't have a clue. Knowing Shrek, he'll set things back in order and the scheming goblin will meet a befitting fate.Realising it's no good to stretch a good thing for too long, Shrek Forever After is the fourth and final film in the series.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Unhappy by the underperformance of Prince Caspian, Walt Disney Pictures passed on the distribution rights of the third film in the Narnia series, 20th Century Fox.Director Andrew Adamson doesn't return to direct either instead The World is Not Enough's Michael Apted pitches in to do the needful.The Voyage of the Dawn Treader explores new adventures by The Pevenie kids Edmund and Lucy, along with their cousin Eustace after they are magically transported onto an enchanted Narnian ship. So far the Narnia films have retained the clarity and spirit of C S Lewis' vividly told stories. Hopefully, the new one will too.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Video games-turned-films can be a tricky proposition. Either they are an instant hit like Lara Croft or duds like Max Payne. And now, Ubisoft's widely-played Prince of Persia comes to life on celluloid with Brokeback Mountain's Jake Gyllenhaal portraying its swashbuckling hero, Dastan. In an Aladdinesque brand of twist, a courageous Dastan joins forces with a Princess to protect Sands of Time, a mystical gift of the Gods that empowers its possessor with the ability to turn back time from the cunning Nizam, played by Ben Kingsley.Considering filmmaker Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire) is the creative force behind its aesthetics and assertions, Prince of Persia should make for an engaging experience.

Robin Hood
All rise, the gladiators are back! Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott team up for another adrenalin-packed action adventure to film the legendary character from English folklore, Robin Hood.What's he going to do? The usual. Rescue his village from the tyrants, rob the rich and serve the poor while serenading a radiant Cate BlanchettIt should be interesting to see the Oscar-winning actor in a role previously essayed by Errol Flynn and Kevin Costner to name a few, as the witty, valiant and sharp warrior kicking butt like only he can.

Flanders Bollywood Destination

Shooting abroad really came into its own a little over a decade ago, but the film
that got filmmakers thinking of heading westwards was Raj Kapoor’s Sangam in the early sixties.

Among the other old films which brought plenty of foreign locales alive on the silver screen were Pachhi’s International Crook, Shakti Samanta’s ‘An Evening In Paris’ and Great Gambler, Manoj Kumar’s ‘Purab Aur Pachhim’, Brij Sadanah’s ‘Night In London’, the Sameer-Simi starrer ‘Pasand Apni Apni’ and the Rajesh Khanna starrer, ‘Aashiq Hoon Baharon Ka’.

But as film budgets grew bigger and bigger, producers and directors became more and more lavish and began to cross frontiers to give their viewers (and their stars, of course!) free foreign trips, so to say.

Today, it’s not just films but television serials too which are heading overseas. In a bid to promote tourism, tourism boards across the world are luring film and television producers by offering attractive incentives. Among these are securing permissions for shooting in locations, discounts in accommodations and also offer cash incentives.

To promote Flanders as a new Bollywood Destination, Tourism Flanders hosted a reccee for leading Bollywood directors and producers such as Suresh Naidu, Ravi Chopra, Mukesh Bhatt, Mohit Suri, Ramesh Sippy from the Indian film industry to the destination for 5 nights.

The trip included visits to the historic cities of Brussels, Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp - including parts of the scenic countryside Meetings with the filming commissions and tourism offices at the respective places were also held.
