Cricut Expression 2--and take a look--at "CraftRoom"

This bug:

operates via WiFi
cuts from both regular and Imagine carts
uses a screen instead of the plastic overlay (they will continue to make overlays for the carts for a few years)
has a light near the blade housing
you can save settings, but the blade does have to be manually adjusted (kind of by its nature)
and today is just day 2 of CHA!

CraftRoom is a new online tool designed to work with Design Studio. It's an online design site which will be free at first--I'm sure you'll still have to have the carts to do the cutting. Great news for MAC users--it's both PC and MAC compatible.

Cricut Design Studio tips & tricks

I just thought I'd pass on some things I've learned about Cricut Design Studio. Please leave a comment with any helpful hints you may have.

The "hide contour" feature is tricky. If you copy & paste an image, the pasted image won't allow you to hide any contours.
You actually can save hidden contours on an image--if you hide at least two contours on that image. But it has to be for that single image, not a string if images. You can still save it of course--just leave yourself a message on a blank page or put it in the title of that page that you want to hide a contour on a certain image.
When copying and pasting an image, if the initial image has "welded" checked BEFORE you press copy and paste, the pasted image will also have the "welded" box checked. If you click on the initial image, press copy, weld, then paste, only the pasted image will have welded checked.
To create a mirror image, click "TURN 90" twice, then check " FLIP SHAPES".
When you are saving a project, it will save faster if 'include page in preview" is NOT checked, or is not checked on most of the pages in the project.. You see this option when you right click on the mat. Also, try saving your pages in the "fit view" or at "100%". Those who have saved even one page of the project at 200% have had problems opening their files later, error message being "file corrupt" or something like that. This may have been fixed by now,
Having a hard time clicking on a particular image? Drag your cursor around it and then release. It will have the black arrows in the blue circles around it now.
If you are making a project where you are welding images inside of welded images, you might notice that the cut goes all skee-wompus on you. Take one of the inner most set of welded images, and press "copy, delete, paste" in that order. Then do it for the next layer out. You may have to do this again, just "copy, delete, paste" on the inner welded shapes first, and then make sure you do it on the outer set of welded shapes.
To check exactly what will cut, make sure that the page you are double checking is the only one with "include in page preview" checked. Now open a blank page, and press the "preview" key in the left column (looks like an eye). What you see in black lines will cut. Also, any solid (un-welded) colored images will cut as well--they will cut the original shape.
If you need the multi-cut function to cut through something a bit thick, click on "preferences", in the upper left corner, then you can decide how many times you want the blade to go over that image.
If you are looking for something specific, go to the box to the left of the box with the cartridge "keypad", and start typing. Words will come up immediately.
Want to know what cartridge a specific image is from? Click on that image and then right click. It will say "Show cartridge _____" and if you click on that, it will take you to that cartridge with that key highlighted (and a feature key if it pertains).
Want to know what's in a project--all the pages? In the "Cricut Cartridge Library" box with the purple stripe at the top, click on "this project"
Really not sure what an item is? Right click on it, then hover your mouse over "remove keywords"--this will tell you what it has been labeled, and since you're just hovering you won't actually be removing anything. Note that you can add your own keywords as well.
Want to rearrange your pages? This is another right click,--then decide where you want to move the page.

So, clear as mud??!!

If you haven't heard of them, what they typically do is "sell" you a "Groupon" for half price. For instance, there was recently a $30 Groupon that you get for Red Envelope for $15. So essentially, you could get $30 worth of product for $15--plain and simple. They also had a one year subscription to Oprah Magazine for $10.

Each page in this file is made from an individual cart; different pages may use different cartridges though. I did this so that if you like a certain design, you won't have to worry about having all the carts. And if you like the design and don't have the cartridge, you'll only have to acquire one cartridge. What Cricut cartridge you need is in the title of the page.

For those of you following the Kaleidoscope Katastropne, I want you to Google this: Kaleidoscope Cards and Crafts. Remember that the sites with the most number of hits, etc. is at the top (not 100% sure of their formula). You need to forward the information on to anyone you can. I am seeing what legal action may be being taken against them. I am also contacting the BBB and the state attorney general in her state (they handle those infomercial scams & all sorts of stuff). If I can save someone else from going through what I have had to go through, it will be worth it to go through all this BBB, etc. stuff.

She's even on Facebook, has a different street address listed than the one on her site.

The Yudu Cardshop Machine: screen printing your own cards

I have high hopes that this will be better than Lifestyle Letterpress Epic 6 from Quickcutz. For those keeping score, I ordered back last April and have yet to hear from the owner of Kaleidoscope Cards & Crafts. Still out $135. Have sent no less than 15 communications.

Oh, I need your help!

-Update update 1-13-11- I wrote several emails, online forms, and left comments to no avail. When you go to her site, it comes up as suspended

-Thank you for those that commented, I really appreciate your leaving such detailed information. If anyone else has ideas, I am more than open to them.--

Waaaay back in April I purchased one of those Lifestyle Letterpress Epic 6 combos from Kaleidoscope Cards and Crafts. They actually took the money out of my account that day (it was only $135.99, because I had a coupon). I found out that they were on back order, and thus the wait began. Over several months I waited, sending no less than 6 emails/communications to them asking them what they delay was at that particular point. No response. I know that around August or September, other stores got their back orders of this product. Long story short, to this day I have not received my order, and they won't return my emails (I have triple checked that I have the right email address, as it was the one they gave to Paypal and is on their "Contact Us" page --info@kaleidoscopecardsandcrafts.com). Have any of you had this problem with Kaleidoscope? I do still have my transaction ID and my email receipt from Paypal. Of course, since it's past 90 days I can't do anything as far as asking Paypal to investigate.

If ANYONE can help, I'd be eternally grateful. You can see how much money I've lost on this, and money is tight (tighter now than it was then). At this point, I just want them to return my money.

Thank you in advance for whatever advice you can give.

Greetings to those hopping from the Lime Light Charitable Design Team blog. Welcome to the Imagine That blog. My name is Gracie and for the past almost three years I have been posting my thoughts & crafting desires on this blog. I loved (and still love) my Cricut so much that I wanted to share, inspire, and be inspired by the other Cricut & crafting blogs out there. I have had a Cricut since before the beginning--I was lucky enough to beta test the first two models, and it was then that the love affair began.

At a certain point, I decided I wanted to do a little more with my Cricut & so I started the Lime Light Charitable Design Team. In Oct. 2008 we completed our first project as a team: cards & bookmarks for soldiers. We have gone on to do many things, as you saw on our team blog. Let me tell you, I have been blessed to work with some wonderful women.

The team members are contributing product & some absolutely gorgeous creations to the winners of this blog hop. Some of those products were donated from their LSS and other sources. I want to thank Making Memories for the gorgeous paper (it's all two sided or specialty paper), embellishments and kits. I am also donating the Christmas solutions cartridge and three packages of Cricut Vinyl, as well as some Cricut stencil material. That's not even the tip of the iceberg if you've watched the slide show in the announcement post. Check out the photo calendars; an interesting way of scrapbooking as you are taking your twelve favorite photographs of a certain them, the previous year, or something else & you can share these "scrapbooks" by printing/ordering multiple copies & sending to anyone you please. Make sure you keep a copy & laminate it (or trim it to fit on various pages in your scrapbook) so that your family can enjoy it for years to come, not just the year it was made for.

Paper Lace cart:view all images!!--almost a half cart??

I love this cartridge. I love the designs & the way the images work together on each feature key. I am more than happy I purchased it. See all of the images on the cart just below the next paragraph.

I noticed while I was browsing through it in Design Studio that when I pressed the shift key, there were no images except for feature key 3 which is the alphabet. So, if you have the base set of (50) images plus 6 feature keys & all of the images that entails (6 x 50 images, often depending on the cart). But when you press the shift key for the base and feature keys, you usually double the amount of images you have on the cartridge. Again, it depends on the cartridge because not every image has a corresponding image when you press the feature and/or shift keys. So if I have the base + 6 feat keys = 7 keypads or 7 sets of images. If I press the shift key, I should have 7 more for a total of 14 sets of images or 14 keypads. On this cartridge, I have 8 of 14 keypads, which means I have 57% of the images of a normal full cart. But even that figure isn't accurate because very few carts have all 50 images every time you press the feature and/or shift key. Oh, yes it was my goal to confuse you today. I have to tell you, I like the cart so much that while it did surprise me to have less images, I was still very happy with the cart. The images are so well designed that I can think of a million things to do with them.

--I've removed the file temporarily because it needed fixin' ! So sorry, I see some obvious errors & should have waited to post it.

I wanted to get samples of these before I posted the files because the 12 inch frames won't cut out quite like they look. Remember there's the faded green line that nothing will cut on the outside of in Cricut Design Studio. But these should still come out looking like nice frames; I'll try & post samples later. The second one down I am still "testing" because I want it to be a negative image frame. Eight and nine are the same frame except for the image on the top middle which you can just remove if you don't like. Come back in the next few days for samples.

How to figure out what's on a cartridge you may want; how to search for specific items on a cartridge

Those who have Design Studio/Gypsy probably already know this. If you don't have Cricut Design Studio, you can download a trial version for free. You can update it every time new carts come out. You can actually cut anything on George if you have the baby bug and anything on Plantin Schoolbook and Accent Essential if you have the Expression.

To download a trial (there is no trial "period" fyi; I have the full version on one computer and the trial version on another) click HERE. You will click HERE for updates. There are two updates: program and font. Most of the updates you will do will be font updates, because cartridges are constantly being added. The newsletter will tell you which updates you need to do.

There is a place, when you are signing up for the free trial, for you to check that you want the Cricut Newsletter, which will tell you when Design Studio needs to be updated.

When you have downloaded & installed the trial (or if you have the full version of Design Studio), you will see three boxes at the top. It's the first two we are concerned with right now.

Click on the "View" box and scroll down until you get to keywords:

Next, select what you'd like to find. I typed in flower -- you'll notice when you type in your keyword that anything like it will pop up--flower1, flower2....as you see. That's the way they were named on individual cartridges & thus that becomes that key/image's keyword.

At this point, you'll want to click on the forward arrow (back arrow if at some time you want to go back). It will take you to the cartridge AND highlight the key that matches the keyword you entered.

If you click the arrow again, you will go to the next cartridge (or the next key/image if there are more pertaining to the keyword).
