Former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star Charisma Carpenter might not slay evil beings for her day job anymore, but that doesn't mean the 43-year-old hasn't stayed in killer shape.

Carpenter tweeted two bikini selfies Sunday, revealing her rock-hard abs and incredibly toned physique while posing in an animal-print two-piece. "#workhard #earnit #ownit. PFT! 43 is fine with me! ❤" she wrote.

In February, Carpenter talked about how she stays in such great shape in an interview with OK! Magazine.

"I have to work so bloody hard at it. Let me tell you, hitting 40 is not fun," she said. "My weakness is potato chips and I love a good cocktail. My metabolism has changed so much and I just have to work really, really hard at it, so it’s not easy. It’s good, old-fashioned diet and exercise, which I sort of have to clean up right now because we’re going to be heading back to work pretty soon and I’ve gotta look good. I’ve got to feel good, I’m working with 20-year-olds. Are you kidding me? It’s so hard! They’re eating gummi bears and pretzels with peanut butter fillings and drinking whatever they want and I’m like, 'You frustrate me! I want to have that metabolism again!'"

"But after I had my son, that’s the best I ever looked," she added. "And when I posed for Playboy that’s the best I ever felt in my life. But it did feel really good when I was doing 'The Lying Game' and working with my trainer. They helped me rock it out. I’m lucky."

The next time you consider using the headache excuse to avoid getting busy, think about this: It pays to have more sex. Literally, new research finds.

People who have sex four times or more a week earn higher wages than their less-sexually active colleagues at a statistically significant level, according to a discussion paper from Nick Drydakis, a fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor, a private, independent organization focused on labor market research.

To come up with the findings, Drydakis, who is also an economics lecturer in the business school at Cambridge, England-based Angila Ruskin University, analyzed a year-long survey of 7,500 Greek households. The survey asked the representative sample respondents how many times they had sex per week, whether they were employed, how much money they made and how many hours per week they worked, among other questions.

But before you rush to go between the sheets, it’s important to note that Drydakis' findings don't indicate that more sex directly translates into a raise. Instead, the study found that the two factors are correlated. See, people who have frequent sex tend to be happier, have higher self-esteem, better reasoning ability and are less likely to be depressed. Other research has found that workers with health problems tend to make less money due to limited productivity and in some cases, discrimination.

So to recap: More sex makes you healthier and happier. And happy, healthy people tend make more money.

Another factor may explain the positive correlation between more sex and higher wages. People who make more money are often more desirable in the dating market, which means they likely have more sex. Drydakis acknowledges this possibility in his paper, but laments that there isn’t really any literature out there directly addressing this theory.

Regardless, the positive relationship between sex and more money exists, his research claims, and workers between the ages of 26 and 50 tend to get higher financial returns on their sexual activity. But it doesn’t matter if you’re gay or straight, you get the same wage returns on your investment in sexual activity. So everyone have at it.

While talking to a daily, Sunny Leone went candid about her next release, which was recently in the news for lesbian scenes featuring Sandhya Mridul and Sunny. “It's not about what people think it is. Ragini MMS 2 is a date movie. You can take your girlfriend to the movie and I guarantee you will enjoy it,” Sunny is quoted as saying.

The actress further adds that Ragini MMS 2, produced by Ekta Kapoor, is a kind of movie that has all the elements of a thrilling entertainer. Sunny Leone is sure that the audience will enjoy the experience of watching her horror film.
The sequel will take forward the story and will start from where the first part ended. If you're planning a dinner and movie night, Facebook can help. The social network announced three updates coming to its mobile platform: a quick way to book restaurant reservations, the integration of television and movie listings on relevant Pages, and hashtag support.

Facebook partnered with popular real-time reservation service OpenTable, which supports reservations for 28,000 restaurants, according to its website. Traditionally, users visit OpenTable's website or mobile app to search for restaurants by location or name, then pick a date and time to secure a reservation. OpenTable also supports menus and customer reviews.Facebook's integration with OpenTable puts a reservations option on participating restaurants' Facebook pages. Images from Facebook show this option below the restaurant's address and hours of operation and above customer reviews. Similar to OpenTable's website, users will be able to set a date, time and party size on the restaurant's Facebook page.

"The update represents a new way of discovering and booking great dining experiences, all within the Facebook mobile app," Facebook's announcement said. This feature will be available on the Facebook mobile Pages for more than 20,000 restaurants. You do not need to be an OpenTable user to access the feature on Facebook.

Facebook also announced that U.S. primetime television and movie Facebook Pages will be updated with a new feature that displays listing information. Listings will be based on your current time zone and include the channel name, air time and a description of the show or movie playing, Facebook said. The information you see on Facebook is the same that cable guides, magazines and newspapers show. TV and movie details will be displayed in a section named "Upcoming Airing," a photo showed.

"Millions of people are visiting TV and movie Pages on Facebook every day, especially on mobile," Facebook said. "Providing listings information on Facebook offers timely and relevant information about the media content people care about most."

Lastly, hashtag support will be included in Facebook's latest mobile update. The social network firstlaunched this feature, which makes words and phrases clickable and searchable, for desktop versions in June. You'll be able to search for hashtags and tap them directly when you see them in posts on your mobile device.

The new listings feature and hashtag support will be available to iOS users right now, Facebook said. OpenTable integration will launch to both iOS and Android users. These features will roll out automatically starting this week.

Facebook's latest mobile updates follow a handful of other changes Facebook has made recently. Last week, the social network announced changes to its News Feed that tweak which posts you see and when you see them. It also enabled secure browsing for all users and will reportedly launch video ads in news feeds starting this fall.

Two new studies add to a growing body of evidence pointing to pregnancy as a critical period in the brain changes that lead to autism.

One study, published Tuesday in Annals of Neurology, finds a four-fold increase in autism among women who had very low levels of a key thyroid hormone, called thyroxine. Researchers found the link in a study of more than 4,000 Dutch mothers and children. Doctors took blood samples from women around the 13th week of pregnancy, then followed up six years later, asking women to fill out a standard psychological checklist about the child's behavior and emotional traits.

A second study, published Monday in JAMA Pediatrics, notes that pregnant women who have their labor started or sped up artificially are slightly more likely to have autistic children.

The increased autism risk in the JAMA study likely stems from an underlying problem with the pregnancy, rather than any of the methods used to jump-start labor, says lead author Simon Gregory of the Duke Institute of Molecular Physiology.

It's possible that "infants destined to develop autism are less likely to send out the correct biochemical signals for normal progression of labor," says Tara Wenger, a pediatric genetics fellow at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, who wasn't involved in either study.

Authors of the JAMA study note their research doesn't definitively prove a link betwen labor induction and autism. They say doctors shouldn't change the way they manage labor and delivery based on their study, funded by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Gustavo Roman,lead author of the thyroid research and a professor of neurology at at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, says his study can't prove cause and effect, either. But proper thyroid function is crucial to many aspect of health. So says it makes sense that women who are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant, ask doctors to check their thyroid function and urine iodine. These women also should take prenatal vitamins that contain iodine, a key element in thyroid function, Roman said in a statement.

Pregnancy complications increase the risk of many developmental disorders, says Michael Rosanoff, associate director for public health research and scientific review at Autism Speaks, an advocacy group.

And growing number of studies now link autism to a variety of things that can compromise the health of a pregnancy, says Rosanoff, who wasn't involved in either study. Researchers are increasingly looking at prenatal risk factors for autism, because this period plays a key role in brain development. Science has ruled out vaccines as a cause of autism, he says.

But studies have found that children are at higher risk for autism if they are born early or very small; if they are in medical distress during delivery; if they have older mothers or fathers; or if they are born less than a year after an older sibling. Autism risk also goes up if a mother has diabetes or high blood pressure; is obese; is infected with rubella, or German measles; is exposed to significant air pollution during pregnancy; had low levels of folic acid; takes medications such as an anti-seizure drug called valproic acid; or makes antibodies toxic to the fetal brain.

Science has ruled out vaccines as a cause of autism, says Gregory, who notes that the original myth about autism and immunizations arose from bogus research that has since been retracted.

And while the link between autism and jump-starting labor is consistent with smaller, earlier studies, the research doesn't prove that labor induction or augmentation actually causes autism, Gregory says.

In Gregory's study, researchers analyzed the records of 625,042 North Carolina births, which were linked to school records that noted any diagnosis of autism.

Those records didn't specify where children fell on the autism spectrum, the study says.

Doctors can induce or speed up labor in several ways, such as by applying a hormone gel to the cervix or giving women intravenous oxytocin, an artificial version of a natural hormone involved in labor, Gregory says.

Women whose labor was induced were 13% more likely to have an autistic child, compared to women whose labor wasn't induced. Women whose labor was sped up were 16% more likely to have a child later diagnosed with autism, the study found. Those whose labor was both induced and augmented were 27% more likely to have an autistic child.

In comparison, the risk of autism went up 23% when the mother had diabetes, and 25% when the fetus was in distress, the study says.

There was no increase in autism risk among women who had C-sections, Gregory says.

Women shouldn't be afraid to have their labor induced, says JAMA study co-author Chad Grotegut, a Duke maternal-fetal medicine specialist. The risk of harm to a baby in distress is far greater than the modest risk of autism. Inducing labor can often reduce the risk of stillbirth, such as when a pregnancy lasts more than a week or so beyond the usual 40 weeks, says Grotegut, a Duke maternal-fetal medicine specialist. Augmenting labor, which may be done when natural labor stalls, can reduce the risk of maternal or fetal infections or post-partum hemorrhage.

But Gregory says scientists should look more closely at labor induction with oxytocin. Oxytocin, sometimes called the "love hormone," plays a key role in social behavior and reasoning.

Gregory and other researchers are investigating oxytocin to treat some of the symptoms of autism.

About one in 88 American children have an autism diagnosis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Rather than one disease, autism is now regarded as a collection of conditions with similar traits but different causes, Rosanoff says. People on the autism spectrum are extremely diverse. Some are non-verbal and profoundly disabled; others have successful careers, particularly in science and technology, describing themselves as different, rather than disabled.

"Autism is so heterogeneous," Rosanoff says. "We're never going to get to the one cause."

Apple to debut next iPhone on Sept. 10 — report

The report cited unnamed sources, though the timing would be similar to last year’s launch of the iPhone 5. Analysts widely expect Apple to introduce both an iPhone 5S as well as a lower cost iPhone for lower-end customers this year. The company has been losing share in the smartphone market to Google’s Android platform. Burleson 'nurse-in' raises breastfeeding awareness

BURLESON — A six-second encounter between a Burleson recreation center employee and a nursing mother created a firestorm on social media.

On Saturday, more than 150 people braved the heat to stand up for nursing mothers' rights.

Mothers, fathers and children held signs reading "This baby needs my milk, not your approval" and "I don't eat with a blanket over my head" to protest the Burleson rec center for asking two moms to cover up last week.

One woman's husband videotaped the encounter on his cell phone, which quickly became a YouTube sensation.

That's when other moms got together and planned Saturday's nurse-in.

"This is a problem we have right now," said Kaitlyn Reece. "We're not trying to sexualize anything; we're not trying to boast about it; we're just trying to say this is normal, this is what needs to happen because sometimes you just can't cover up... it's not an option for that child."

The City of Burleson defended the actions of the rec center employee, saying there was a children's camp going on at the time.

But organizers of the nurse-in said the rec center's manager is now planning breastfeeding awareness classes for employees.

I usually put women into 3 categories: in the first there are ugly or average looking girls. In the second category there are girls with "supermodel" looks. And I named the last category, "girls you really like". The first needs no explanation. The second category changes by time and fashion: currently, it's girls who are 180cm tall, who weigh 50kg and who have mostly blonde hair and a certain type of face. When we talk about "hot girls" we like to talk about girls in this category. But what about the third?

Have you noticed that there are certain women you have "a thing" for? These girls don't resemble the actual trend in supermodels. At least not in 100%. They are taller or shorter. They might have a bigger nose or smaller lips. They might not have the biggest boobs. But there is one thing in common: you will have a "fetish" for these girls. A little thing or feature on their body, which attracts you like a magnet.

Let's see my case as an example. I love shorter (but slim) girls who have a very fragile body-type. Are these girls 180cm tall as the current trend in supermodels dictates? No. I also love girls with exotic faces or certain exotic features on their faces. Do these girls have a baby face like supermodels should? No. Do I still like these girls? Of course! If I am with a girl like this, am I getting the kind of women I want? Of course!

I'll share a secret you will like: oftentimes, these unique types of girls you find attractive will find your type attractive as well! When I was younger and less successful with women, I have noticed getting signs of interest from these girls I had a thing for. Later I realized that it was somehow made to be this way: I respond to their looks and they respond to mine. As I talked to many guys since then, I had to realize that I am not alone: most of the guys experience this! I don't know if there is a logical reason behind this phenomenon, but it's not important at all. What matters is that you can attract the kind of women you have a thing for damn easily!

I don't say you should restrain yourself from going for supermodels. But do not let the trends dictate which kind of girls you should date and which kind you shouldn't. The above is the type of women, which could give you a lot of joy and happiness.

Fertility App Will Pay For Fertility Treatments If You Can't Get Pregnant

Two male tech entrepreneurs want to help women get pregnant. And not in the way you think.PayPal co-founder Max Levchin and former Google executive Mike Huang launched Glow today, an iPhone fertility app that's different from the other popular options in the App Store. Instead of just tracking menstrual cycles, the app uses big data to give women more information about their reproductive health and provides information about the best times to conceive.But if that doesn't help, the app also offers a premium service called Glow First, which will actually help pay for fertility treatments. Levchin, whose net worth is valued at $1 billion, is kicking off that program with a $1 million donation to the fund.

The App

Within the free app women can track their ovulation data, menstruation cycle and sexual activity. That data is then fed to Glow's data scientists and physicians, who crunch it to better inform women on their optimal fertility window.

"With the app, we track a lot of data and we will do our best to mine the data and give personalized information," co-founder and CEO of Glow Mike Huang told ABC News. "As you enter more and more data it changes the data. For instance, it will say you have a 37 percent chance of getting pregnant today."

Huang, whose wife struggled with reproductive issues four years ago, explained that all the information collected by the company is anonymized, but that the more data that is shared, the more helpful and precise Glow will become. Yet for all that data that is collected it still personalizes. "Women's cycles vary quite a bit, we take a look at your data and make a calculation a lot more precise," Huang said.

But the app isn't just for women. Glow has created a partner version too so the woman looking to give birth doesn't have to go through the process all on her own. Huang also stresses that the app has been designed specifically to give users a warm and personalized experience.

An Insurance Alternative
Glow goes beyond the other fertility apps in another key way: it offers monetary assistance to those who ultimately do need fertility treatments.
Through Glow First, users can opt to pay $50 a month for 10 months -- the average time it takes most women to conceive. Then at the end of that period if a Glow First member does not have luck conceiving with the help of the app, they will get money from the contribution pool of cash, which will go directly towards costly infertility treatments or procedures.
Glow says it is hard to say how much money will be divided at first since it depends on how many join the program and how many are successfully able to get pregnant, but Levchin's $1 million donation will give the program a nice cushion. Still, the goal of the not-for-profit program is to severely reduce the cost of expensive treatments. Glow will give the money straight to a fertility clinic of the women's choice.
The purpose of this part of the program is to address the issue that many healthcare and insurance organizations consider fertility treatments to be elective. Despite the fact that 12 percent of women in the U.S. that are of childbearing age have received infertility assistance, many insurance companies won't cover in-vitro and other procedures.
"Statistically there will be women who need help and treatments, and they will have to pay out of pocket," Huang said. "We are not an insurance company. Instead, we tried to think of a creative way to help these women."

At one point in the Gaga video, the singer is seen sitting on a tall stool in the river with her back to Abramović, also seated on a tall stool, with both wearing matching grey jumpsuits. Gaga's one-note vocalization continues in the background the entire time, including a bit in which she walks, horse-like, through a field completely naked wearing a black mask, her arms up in the air.

In the next scene, still naked, Gaga is bent over in a forest holding a stick while wearing only boots and a black wig. The video ends with a shot of her hugging, and sitting on, a gigantic crystal and then laying on a white bed with smaller crystals arrayed all round her head.

appy anniversary! NASA's Curiosity rover celebrated one full year on Mars yesterday. Since landing safely on the morning of Aug. 6, 2012, the rover has crawled the not-exactly-continental distance of 1.6 kilometers (almost exactly one mile) across the planet's desolate surface.

As part of the $2.5 billion mission, Curiosity searched for the presence of life, explored a portion of the 96-mile-wide Gale Crater, and became the first rover to drill on another planet. In its second year, Curiosity is headed toward Mount Sharp, a three-mile-high formation whose layers scientists believe hold secrets of Mars' geological history.

I have conflicting feelings about Barbie. Although I don't think that playing with Barbies is going to necessarily permanently damage the self-esteem of every little girl, I do think that Barbie is, in many ways, problematic (namely because of her influence on body image). And although I'm glad to see that Mattel continues to create themed Barbies that provide good examples of awesome careers for women, I can't help but wish that maybe the "Mars Explorer" was a just a little bit less pink. I mean:

Still, the pinkness doesn't offend me as as much as it seems to offend Megan Garber over at The Atlantic. An astronaut Barbie that goes to Mars is pretty much ok in my book, no matter how she's styled.

Sino-Russian border island to be submerged in downpours

Continuous downpours and water discharges from a reservoir along a China-Russia border river may lead to the submerging of an island shared by the two countries, local flood control authorities warned on Wednesday.

In the next 10 days, the water level around Heixiazi Island is expected to submerge the whole land mass, which usually has an average altitude of 37 meters, said an official with the flood control and drought relief headquarters with northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

China and Russia ended a century-long dispute over the island and held a border redrawing ceremony in 2008, declaring each side owned half of the 335-square-km piece of land, which is located at the confluence of the Heilongjiang River, known as the Amur River in Russia, and the Ussuri River.

Heavy rain has hit the area since July, leaving floodwater from tributaries to flow into the Heilongjiang River. The reservoir along the Zeya River, a major tributary of the Heilongjiang River in Russian territory, has discharged floodwater, putting more pressure on flood control in the lower reaches, said the official.

In the river section of Heihe City, precipitation last month reached 205 mm, 47 percent higher than the average in previous years. As of 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the water level of the Heilongjiang River in the city reached 96.66 meters, surpassing the record level recorded in 1998 by 0.6 meters, according to the city's water affairs department.

Thanks to the unusually high water levels, Jiamusi Port along the Songhuajiang River, also a tributary of the Heilongjiang River, has become accessible to ships carrying much bigger loads than ever before. A Russian ship loaded with 3,000 tonnes of timber was able to reach the port on Wednesday morning, said Xu Yanchun, of Jiamusi City's marine affairs bureau.

Previously, such timber loads had to be separated into different ships with a load capacity of 600 tonnes due to the lower water levels.

Lowest-mass exoplanet around a Sun-like star found

Astronomers have spotted the lowest-mass planet ever detected around a Sun-like star in the constellation Virgo.

Using infrared data from the Subaru Telescope in Hawaii, an international team of astronomers imaged the giant planet around the bright star GJ 504.

Several times the mass of Jupiter and similar in size, the new world, dubbed GJ 504b, is the lowest-mass planet ever detected around a star like the sun using direct imaging techniques, researchers said.

“If we could travel to this giant planet, we would see a world still glowing from the heat of its formation with a colour reminiscent of a dark cherry blossom, a dull magenta,” said Michael McElwain, a member of the discovery team at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt.

“Our near-infrared camera reveals that its colour is much more blue than other imaged planets, which may indicate that its atmosphere has fewer clouds,” McElwain said.

GJ 504b orbits its star at nearly nine times the distance Jupiter orbits the sun, which poses a challenge to theoretical ideas of how giant planets form.

GJ 504b lies at a projected distance of 43.5 AU from its star, the actual distance depends on how the system tips to our line of sight, which is not precisely known.

“This is among the hardest planets to explain in a traditional planet-formation framework,” said Markus Janson, a Hubble postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University.

The researchers found that GJ 504b is about four times more massive than Jupiter and has an effective temperature of about 237 degrees Celsius.

It orbits the G0-type star GJ 504, which is slightly hotter than the Sun and is faintly visible to the unaided eye in the constellation Virgo.

The star lies 57 light-years away and the team estimates the systems is about 160 million years, based on methods that link the star’s colour and rotation period to it age.

The study was published in The Astrophysical Journal.

Nasa's Curiosity rover has celebrated its first anniversary on Mars by using its Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instrument to 'sing' Happy Birthday by vibrating at different frequencies.

The rover completed its dramatic descent to land safely on the red planet one year ago and has already achieved its mission aim by discovering that Mars could have supported life.

Curiosity, which is about the size of a small car, is also sending back information about its surroundings to inform future missions to Mars.

The rover has traveled almost 700 metres in the past month since leaving an area of the moon where it has been analysing rocks for around six months.

It is now trundling along to its final destination - Mount Sharp - where it will look at the lower layers of the mountain that towers over the centre of Gale Crater by almost three and a half miles.

Mount Sharp is of interest to scientists because its layers of rock can reveal information about the planet's changing environment over time.

Certain layers have been identified by Mars orbiters as originating in a wet environment.

The rover first examined ground nearer the crater where it quickly found signs of 'vigorous ancient stream flow' - the first streambed pebble deposits ever examined up-close on Mars.

Evidence of a past environment well suited to support microbial life came within the first eight months of the 23-month primary mission from analysis of the first sample material ever collected by drilling into a rock on Mars.

'We hope those enticing layers at Mount Sharp will preserve a broad diversity of other environmental conditions that could have affected habitability.'

The rover is also gathering information that might pave the way for a human mission to Mars in the future and is measuring natural radiation levels and weather on the surface of Mars.

The mission also found evidence Mars lost most of its original atmosphere through processes that occurred at the top of the atmosphere.

Nasa's next mission to Mars, Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN), is being prepared for launch in November to study those processes in the upper atmosphere.

Members of the team behind Curiosity at JPL in California will re-live the dramatic landing and mission in a programme that will air on Nasa TV and JPL's website at 10.45 to 12 pm today.

Another event on Nasa TV from noon until 1.30pm will feature Nasa officials and crew members aboard the International Space Station as they observe the rover anniversary and discuss how its activities and other robotic projects are helping prepare for a human mission to Mars and an asteroid.

The world’s most famous smile is now the world’s smallest.

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology have “painted” the smallest version of the Mona Lisa ever -- approximately 30 microns in width, or just a third as wide as a human hair.

The micro-method relied not on paintbrushes or pencils but chemistry, and a new process called ThermoChemical NanoLithography (TCNL), in which incredibly precise variations in heat produced lighter or darker shades of gray in a special dye.

"By tuning the temperature, our team manipulated chemical reactions to yield variations in the molecular concentrations on the nanoscale," said Jennifer Curtis, an associate professor in the School of Physics and the study's lead author. "The spatial confinement of these reactions provides the precision required to generate complex chemical images like the Mini Lisa."

The process was difficult to achieve and didn’t yield hard edges to regions, giving the painting a blurry, soft-focus effect. But the researchers expect to be able to expand the process to other materials that may yield a better effect.

"This technique should enable a wide range of previously inaccessible experiments and applications in fields as diverse as nanoelectronics, optoelectronics and bioengineering," Curtis said.

A paper on the process, called “Fabricating Nanoscale Chemical Gradients with ThermoChemical NanoLithography,” was published online.
