"The Singularity": Is It Possible?

The singularity, also known as the technological singularity, is a hypothetical event in the future in which technological progress will start going up at a vertical rate. This is usually linked with another event called the "Intelligence Explosion" event, in which AIs start to improve recursively and become superintelligent beings. Computing has been growing exponentially, and so, it is predicted that we will reach a point in which the exponent is too high, resulting in a huge ascent in a graph.

In theory, if we continue on this growth in computing, we will reach "some essential singularity in the history of the race beyond which human affairs, as we know them, could not continue." This means that at some point, machines will go to understaing things beyond what affect us, and we will not be able to comprehend what is going on. This would result in an Intelligence Explosion, in which machines will be able to improve themselves over and over. According to John Good, who said this in 1965:

"Let an ultraintelligent machine be defined as a machine that can far surpass all the intellectual activities of any man however clever. Since the design of machines is one of these intellectual activities, an ultra-intelligent machine could design even better machines; there would then unquestionably be an “intelligence explosion,” and the intelligence of man would be left far behind."

Basically, we would make machine the superior being. Right now, there are many sites devoted to the topic, including one which used to be a subtopic on Reddit but then was registered as a domain for the Gawker Science Blog. Here, things like longetivity, transhumanism and robotics are discussed. The singularity could achieve breakthroughs in things like nanotechnology and genetic engineering.

But are there risks for a singularity to exist? Yes. Humans will most likely be used as labor force, as intelligent humans are no longer needed. If this happens, there will also probably be a war between man and machine, much like Terminator, and they can create robots specialized for destruction. Machines could simply release a huge radiation wave and wipe all sentient life off the planet. Who knows.

Not that I'm implying anything.

The thing is that, the same way computers have gotten more and more powerful, all technology will keep evolving in the same fashion. And when it reaches an extreme height, everything will be unpredictable. The economy could start doubling at an incredible rate, maybe even quarterly. Also, for existentialists, there will be a slight problem. The AI will not love us, nor hate us. But we have atoms, which could be used for something else. Basically, that makes us raw material.

There is a cause, though, which is dedicated to making a friendly AI. This AI should be the first one, so that he may prevent other AIs to be a problem to mankind. The problem is that it's easier to make an unfriendly AI. Still, Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics should prevent problems from ocurring.

1: A robot may not harm a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to be harmed.

2: A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with either the First or Second Laws.

Now, a lot of people criticize this theory, because they don't believe that an oncoming singularity is possible. Some say that since economy can be done by an intelligence inferior to the Singularity, and this would cause massive unemployment, nobody would want to invest in an AI which would rid humanity of its work. Still, if the Singularity actually occurs, then we have to be ready for anything, because nothing will be predictable from that point on.

Unpredictable is not in my vocabulary.

How To: Throw A Punch

Sometimes, you get to see a situation in which two guys are going to fight and everybody's prompting them to. Also, sometimes, just sometimes, you see somebody land the first punch and then clench his fist in horrible, horrible pain. Why does this happen? Because, if you don't know how to punch, you can seriously fuck your shit up. So, how does one punch?

Observe. This fucker's wrist would be broken by now.

First of all, recognize this fact: Your fist, although it may sound ridiculous, is a delicate flower. This means that you do something wrong with the punch, and damn it, you may not be able to use your hand for a while. Here's the deal. There are different kinds of punches, and i'll be sure to explain them all in detail, so you don't screw them up. Now, how does one make a fist? You wrap your fingers on the palm of your hand, and then place the thumb over the fingers. If you put the thumb under, you can break the thumb. Also, your wrist has to be straight. A bit high or a bit low, you can break your wrist. You should be able to balance a book or something on your wrist. Also, keep your fists up, unless you want to screw up every punch and get hit square in the face.

As such.

Now, that was just the hands. The first punch we're going to learn about is the jab. The jab is the most simple, and possibly effective punch. With your left foot forward (if you're a lefty), you will throw your left hand forward, keeping the arm straight, and twisting your hip so that the left arm will stretch forward. This punch is used to distract the other fighter from a distance and to get his guard down. If you want to try it with the other hand, it's called a cross, and you have to twist the whole body to get the arm forward. This is usually what follows a jab.

This will always annoy the other boxer.

Another very important punch is the swing. This punch can be very powerful if made well. For a swing, you have to swing your whole body to the direction at which the hit goes, sort of like when you swing at golf. The fist is placed sideways, and is intended to hit the oponnent's chin. You have to twist your waist and if you're punching with the front fist, the front leg should move towards the direction. If you're hitting with the back fist, your hind leg should twist. There's a variant for this called the hook, which is used to hit the oponnent's body. Simply aim lower.

Swings also make up for the ugliest fucking faces.

The most potentially-packed punch is the uppercut. This one's the hardest. Hell, boxers with years of training can get it wrong. If you're going to punch with the front fist, swing your torso so that your right elbow is aligned with your left knee (or vice-versa if you're a lefty), and then lift your whole body along with your arm, to increase the pack of the punch. You have to remember to keep your wrist straight, because this is the punch that usually tends to give you carpal tunnel or something. If you're punching with your back fist, make sure your right elbow is aligned with your right knee (or viceversa), then lift. Hit the fucker in the chin.

Uppercuts make ugly faces too, and not even God knows how that dude landed the punch in the first place.

Well, this is sort of it for basic punches, and if you learn to do it right, you won't need the more advanced ones (unless you're getting into MMA and shit). So, yeah, practice, and practice, use bandages and gloves at first, then use only bandages and if you think you're so hardcore as to handle the burns and bleeding, then take the bandages off. And punch a douchebag, I hate those.

Movie Review: Spirited Away

This movie, for those of you that haven't watched it yet, is something else. It's a whole new level of moviemaking. Those of you who have watched it already, you know, as well as I do, that the film can really impact you on a way it's hard to express.

Spirited Away is about a girl named Chihiro who has to move houses. While on the road, her father gets lost and they wind up in an abandoned town. Once the night arrives, weird things start happening, and before you know it, Chiriro makes a bet which could cost her own name and soul. That's mostly what I can say without spoiling it.

This is a big part of the story, and you'll understand this as soon as you watch the movie.

The movie's awesome because of, well, everything. The characters are colorful, and feel real. There's a bit of everything. There are spirits and mortal beings alike. The witch Yababa makes for an excellent villain. Kaonashi (No-Face) is an excellent character, you'll be able to recognize him quickly.

This guy right here, my favorite character from the film.

The designs are awesome, especially the variety of color in the film. The themes are great, which include references to Alice in Wonderland, and there's also the coming of age, which is a sort of metaphor for the Japanese Society, which is more and more drifting away from their traditional values.

And weird spider-men that look like Doctor Egg.

There's also the music, mostly composed by Joe Hisaishi. It's very beautiful and complements the film perfectly. It's good enough to bring you to tears (Not that I did *sniff* big boys don't cry). It's both soothing and keeps you attentive to what's going on.

This guy's music is the shit.

Well, that's mostly what I can say about the movie, so if you haven't watched it, then go look for it, and if you have, watch it again. You know you want to. If you watch it and know somebody who would like the film, tell them to read this, or to get it. It's really worth it.

Seriously. You'll adore it.

Is Ultra-Thin Ultra-Sexy?

All right, so I've met some girls who eat ridiculously low amounts of food so they can get thinner than they already are. Many of these girls were already thin and were eating something like a yogurt a day and that sort of shit. They get the feeling that being skeletal like many current hollywood movie stars are right now will make them more beautiful. Well, I'd beg to differ, and here's why.

WE DO NOT LIKE THIS SHIT.

First and foremost, when a girl loses weight, she doesn't only lose stomach fat (which is the first thing they lose), but when they've lost all that, the boobs and derriere start to go too. THAT SUCKS. Why? Because they're the reason we men live. All right, maybe not so much, but still, they're stuff that we're not willing for you to lose.

Some sideboob would rock, but as you can see, THERE ARE NO BOOBS.

Also, weight isn't everything. If your BMI says you're obese, and people tell you you look fine, well, it's because you look fine. Especially if you work out. You're going to be heavier because of muscle mass. I'll give you an easy example. Let's compare Keira Knightley and Sofía Vergara. Now, both of them are beautiful. Damn it, if any of them asked anybody out they wouldn't say no (a damn girl wouldn't say no). Still, after looking at Keira's body, and Sofía's, you'll quickly realize who would be a better baby bearer (if you know what I mean). Why? EVOLUTION, BABY!

This here's what we men call a suitable mate.

We men, of course, look for the most fertile women with the best genes. Sure, you can be the strongest, most handsome bastard, but you risk the baby being a skinny a fucker as the mother (say Keira) would be. But, if you had him with Vergara, you'd know that the baby wouldn't be skinny, and you'd know it. It'd be fucking beautiful! Why? Sofía has better genes. Besides, she has wider hips, which is something we notice. That lets us know the baby will come out all right.

What I'm implying is that the hourglass figure is sexier than a plank-shape figure.

Of course, we don't think about evolutionary shit when we're looking for a mate. We think about her face, the boobs and the ass. Because, like I said, those are beautiful. I mean, seriously, we men wouldn't have it any other way. Also, if you want proof that curvier women are more successful, then, how about some examples? Marilyn Monroe was a size 12, and was still one of America's most beautiful women. You've got Sofía, Kim's not so bad either. Jennifer Lopez got her fame because of her big, voluptuous behind.

Why? BECAUSE IT'S BEAUTIFUL, SO SHUT UP!

Now, don't take going curvy as far as Adele does. You don't want to become one single curve. You want to be a big lump followed by a small curve or flat and then followed by another bump from behind. Men don't care how big your abs are, as long as they're not too big and the rest is in good proportion. Take Kat Dennings for example. She's got a great body. She's about 1.65 and weighs almost 90 kilograms (that's my weight, and I'm a dude), so as you can see, weight is not the problem. It's simply being healthy enough.

Short, heavy, and still goddamn beautiful.

So, I hope this proves a point. Girls, don't worry about how much you weight, you have to care about how good you look. The way to look good is to be healthy, so be healthy. That'll give you the figure you want. Just, don't overdo it.

Kurt Cobain

All right, so today would be the birthday of ex-grunge rocker Kurt Cobain. It's already been about 18 years since his death.With his death, grunge slowly died out and it paved the way for post-grunge. So he's made a few bad decisions in life AHEM! Courtney Love, anyone?

So, today, he would be 45 years old. He was a troubled man. He always felt that his artistic message was misinterpreted by the public (which of course, it usually was). When journalists and people tried to interpret his songs, he'd get mad, for he felt that the music came first, lyrics second.

And then the weed.

Cobain was a drug user since he was 13 years old. He also had bronchitis, which gave him problems, but also could have given him his awesome voice. He then became addicted to heroine, and this had created a bit of complications during the Nevermind tour.

One of Cobain's happiest moments must have been knowing he was going to be a father. He had his daughter with Love, Frances Bean Cobain. In the beginning, she was given by court order to Courtney's sister, but she was given back to the couple later.

Kurt had already attempted suicide a few times, without success. He was seen in various places in Seattle, but then disappeared all of a sudden. He was searched for, without success. After a while, an electrician who was going to install an alarm system found him. That must have been a gross sight. Kobain commited suicide with a shotgun. He wrote a suicide note to his imaginary friend, "Boddah", which explained how he was fed up with life.

He was very influenced by Buddhism.

On his vigil at Seattle Center, where over 7,000 people attended, recorded messages by Kris Novoselic and Love were played. There, the bitch known as Love told everybody to tell Kobain a big "Fuck You". In no context is that good, at all.

Still, after all that went through, Kobain was still the voiceman of the Generation X, and without him, a lot of music would be very, very different. Now, he wasn't very technical, and Nirvana sucked live, but still, their music was good, and Kobain will definitely be missed.

Stuff To Learn From Buddhism

Buddhism, as we know it, is one of the most peaceful religions there are out there. But, still, we never take the time to analyze it well. This leaves us ignorant of some really good advice that's just waiting for us to use it. So, what can we learn from Siddharta Gautama?

Besides having an awesome ball of light hovering over our heads?

First of all, it's ok to start small. A lot of people always try to start something headfirst and end up breaking their heads. If we start bit by bit, we'll eventually get to the objective we're looking to reach. Nobody really succeeds overnight, but those who work progressively will get to what they want, with a bit of patience.

Thoughts become things. What does this mean? If you're having evil thoughts, the evil will be given and felt by yourself. If you think happy, you'll feel happy. As Buddha said it: "The mind is everything. What you think, you become." So, yeah, a lot of guys will want to think porn. That's not what it means. If you're looking at life with a positive view, well, you're on your way to a positive life. If you look at life negatively, well, you're pretty fucked.

This is sort of how it works (but thoughts can't become boobs, so sorry).

Actions count. You're never going to show something just by talking about it. It's like the authors who never publish any work, or a musician who never writes a song, but still mentions it any time he can. He's not really a musician or an author unless he actually does what he says he will.

SCREW YOU BASTARDS! ZE PAINTING WILL ARRIVE, I PROMISE!

A very important lesson is to learn to forgive. I actually had this situation earlier this morning. A friend and I fought and we both got very mad, but we knew that we wouldn't get anywhere just by bickering, so later that day, we were quick to forgive. If you hold your anger within, bad stuff will happen. You can get ulcers, and even constipated.

Come on you bastard, forgive!

Seek to understand. Always, always be open to new ideas. I've met people who are very close-minded, and frankly, it's horrible. You can't win with those people. Why? It's called ignorance. If I'm presenting an idea, and a person simply chooses their own idea for the sake of that being their own idea, it's the definition of ignorance; they're ignoring me. You don't get any new knowledge with that. That way, a Hinduist or a Christian or a Jew may not accept ideas that were told by Buddha, or they could, depending on the person. The point is, if you stick to your ideas, you're not getting much out of life, then.

Be thankful. If you don't remember why you are who you are, you're bound to forget who you are at some point in the road. That also reminds me of another thing Buddha said. Conquer yourself. What does this mean? If you know how you are, and you know how to be yourself to your own benefit, then you can move mountains.

Defeat your dark side.

Travel well. This one's actually quite fun. They say that the road to the destination is half the fun. Take advantage of it. How? While you're traveling, look around. Inhale, and take in the beauty around you (unless you're in Detroit). Talk with new people, learn from them. Take notes on your travels and keep them for yourself, or share them. This also applies to life. Don't be anxious for the result of what you want, but enjoy every single step of the way.

Enjoy the view.

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” This is one of my favorites. It means that you need to go easy on yourself. Why? Because you're not perfect. Nobody is. That's what makes us human. And we have to recognize the fact that we can make mistakes, so we don't beat ourselves up every time we do.

Peace comes from within. Do not seek it from without. You won't find peace anywhere outside of yourself. If you're not at peace inside, you won't be, until you calm down your anger and suffering. Well, that's more or less the most important things we can learn from Gautama. He was a very, very wise man, and, although I don't agree fully with his views (for example, embracement of poverty), I admire him for being the man he was.

Valentine's Day

Sorry I've been neglecting this blog, I've been a bit busy the last few days. Well, let's get to the topic. Ah, so the famous day of love and despera- er, companionship(t) is coming, and everybody's running around looking for tips for how to make that special someone have their feet swept up from the ground from the romance. Well, let's review.

I WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO LIVE.

Sometimes simple, romantic gestures like a box of chocolates (well wrapped, you want your girl to work it a bit), or maybe a bouquet of roses, if you're looking to show her what she means to you, and even a single rose, if you're looking to be more romantic. Always bring a card with a poem, either yours or somebody else's, as long as it's good. Trust me, you won't sweep a girl off her feet with "Roses are red, get into bed."

This only works on metalheads.

Most of the time, Valentine's Day is associated with going out with your girl/guy and doing some fun shit together. Unfortunately, this year it's on a Tuesday. So, what's the deal here? Well, you can make time (come on, your partner deserves it), and take him/her out to dinner or a movie. Or a movie and dinner. Or maybe go on a romantic crime spree or something, I don't know. Originality gets you points.

For example, I've always been looking for a girl who can appreciate black roses.

After the day is over and your wallet is empty, remember to say goodbye in a romantic fashion. If you want to go old-school, hit her in the head with a club. In touch with your instinct? Flap your arms around and sqwak in her face, while making weird noises in her face. Body odors also help if that's what you're doing. You could recite a poem in Klingon or something if she's into nerdy guys.

I'd tap that.

The thing is to show him/her what he/she really means to you, no matter how much the other person probably ignores you while you cry yourself to sleep. So, yeah, start grooming, guys, don't manscape, that stuff's for sissies. Women, manscape. With enough preparation, you'll make this valentine's day fucking awesome for you and your special other. How To: Handle Stress

All right, so we're already doing partial exams (there are three then finals) and they've been giving us a shitload of projects and it's TOO MUCH IT'S TOO FUCKING MUCH! I've already uploaded a post about stress, but I DON'T FUCKING CARE! So, to all my friends out there, you're going to need this. If you can't deal with your stress, you're going to break harder than the Wall of Berlin, so you better pay some damn attention.

WHAT DO I DO!

First of all, if you're going through a lot, try to organize your time. You have to recognize the fact that you have no time for fun and games these days, so you're going to get to work. If you have teamwork, leave the communication platforms open, but pay no attention to them. Close the sites you're watching for fun like Cracked, 4chan, Reddit, Tumblr, or whatever you do on the internet.

-Close 4chan?
-Yes, fucker, you close 4chan!

Now, if your project or what you were assigned to study is too fucking long, try to separate it in parts, with some small, 10-minute rests for every hour you work. Unless, of course, you're used to not having breaks, which makes you a lot fucking faster (yes, fucking is an adjective for me).

Now, shut the fuck up and listen!

While this reduces your stress, it won't eliminate it. If you're going to be locked in your room all day, know what you need. You need music. I don't care if it's classical, heavy metal, or even pop. If it relaxes you, listen to it. Also, if you don't get dizzy easily, you can light an incense which helps you relax a bit. Chewing gum also helps. You're going to have to move a bit after a lot of stress, so when you're resting, stretch a bit. Motivators don't really help that much. They're just there, and in fact reading something a lot of times can stress you, so it's not really something I would suggest.

Here's a motivator to know what happens if you FUCKING HAVE MOTIVATIONAL POSTERS AROUND.

Now, good luck with partials, projects and shit. This is all I could post because I'm actually out of time right now, and I'll try to keep posting here whenever I can (although it's very, very hard). Keep working hard and build your future or some shit like that. Oh, and don't overstress yourselves. You'll get gas.

Movie Review: Se7en

I got to watching this film, which had been recommened to me a lot of times (I am a fan of mythology surrounding the seven deadly sins), so when I watched it, my mind was totally fucking blown! If you're easily disturbed, then, sure as shit, don't watch it! We don't need weak people watching stuff like this.

Go on. Eat your ice cream, you chronically depressed woman...

Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt star in what could at first be a slapstick buddy cop comedy, but then, things start to get weird. They find a series of murders connected to the seven deadly sins, and while they try to investigate it, they find no leads about who the hell the villian could be. After that, shit starts to get weird, and I won't say much, but damn it, you're going to love the hell out of that movie. Seriously, you'll sleep with it so hard it could get pregnant. Don't worry, I'm joking. Movies don't have kids.

They get shitty sequels.

If you're into the seven sins and hell and all those weird religious concepts that are so interestingly dark, then, well, you've got yourself a black jewel of a movie right here, so go to your nearest Blockbuster (or wherever you kids go to now) and get yourself a copy of this film. Anonymous Did It Again!

So, today I heard about Megaupload, and how it got hit down. Then, I cried in the bathroom for a couple of hours. After that, I heard that Anonymous attacked and hit hard DOJ, Universal Music, MPAA and RIA. It turned out that Megavideo and some sites with adult content were also taken down (Way to go, you bastards!), so, there was a lot of reason for Anon to attack those sites.

Do not fuck with the internet, or you will deal with these guys.

After finishing, Anonops posted on Twitter "One thing is certain: EXPECT US!", as a small victory cheer. The U.S. Copyright Office was taken down as well. Anonnews also downed Justice.gov. Anonnews, after taking down the Copyright Office, also wrote: "Get some popcorn, it's going to be a long, lulzy night." This is the largest operation that Anon has ever undertaken, with 5,635 (a shitload of) computers running the attack. One of the prominent hackers of Anon, Sabu, wrote:

"Support [The Pirate Bay], Torrents, Magnets, Megaupload and its alternatives. Support file-sharing. Legal or not, it is our right. The entertainment industries will see that they can not simply censor us for the basis of profit."

So, remember the cruise ship that crashed near the coast in Italy? The one where the captain didn't stay until the last passenger was out? The fucker gave an excuse. "I had no intention of escaping. I was helping some passengers put the life boat to sea. At a certain point the mechanism for lowering it, blocked. We had to force it. A World With SOPA

So, SOPA's a less than a week away of getting either approved or disapproved. The world's hoping that it won't happen, but the government's going to extreme measures to increase Internet censorship to an extreme extent, basically saving companies hundreds of dollars for pirated work. The problem with this is that the Internet will just become a portal for watching and listening to multimedia, instead of being the world's workshop and proving grounds for original ideas, where people like Cyanide and Hapiness, Freddie Wong, countless bloggers and writers showcase their ideas and content. The result will be an empty shell with nothing but T.V. shows and shit.

Any site with anything like a small embedded picture (like this) or video, BAM!

A lot of websites blacked out their pages in protest of SOPA, showcasing what could happen if the extreme censorship (censorshit?) law passes. Wikipedia's out, Reddit's out, Wordpress users are blocking their sites, and basically, the Internet is showing what happens if the bill is approved. THE WORLD WILL SUCK, PEOPLE! So, if you're part of the Congress, and you're reading this, don't pass SOPA, damn it! Many people sue just for the sake of sueing, so damn it, don't listen to those god-damned entertainment owners, they're really going out of their way, so don't you do it too.

Movie Review: Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

So, I got this movie as a present, and was told it was a stoner movie. I had to watch it immediately. The astounding visuals, the actors, colors, sounds, music, trust me, I've never seen a movie as fucked up as this one. It tells the story of Roaul Duke and his attorney, Dr. Gonzo, who go to Las Vegas to cover a race for the paper, but go there with a suitcase full of drugs. They soon stop working and start stoning their assess off like you wouldn't think was humanely possible.

That's the beginning. No, seriously.

Johnny Depp's character had a personality with a charm I had never seen before. Imagine a bald Jack Sparrow who runs around with a typewriter and is stoned all the time. Duke's one of my favorite characters now. His companion, Dr. Gonzo, was a dude crazy as shit. He would get high and walk around with a knife and start fucking around with everybody who he didn't like. The actor was Benicio del Toro, who appeared as a fat Samoan claiming he's a lawyer. At one point he even grabs a teenage girl of the street, gets her high on acid and has his way with her.

DUUUUDE.

Some great actors appear as background characters, too. The guy who does Mini-me's there, Flea as a musician, Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci, Tobey McGuire too, the film's really a collection of a good all-star cast.

DUDEEEE.

Now, the thing about the film. It's full of dazzling colors, it shows what the mind of a stoner is like on the inside, and it's really fucking funny. You're going to have moments of panic, simplicity, pure, pure fear, and really, every emotion is put on a very, very huge level, to the point that you're really immersed into it and are almost acting like a stoner yourself by the end. You also feel a lot of sympathy for the anti-hero, who, really, we all love because it's Depp.

Yeah, he's young, it's a '98 film.

The film really doesn't tell a story, it has no particular order, exactly. It does have a beginning, and an end, but the time loops and there's weird stuff in between. You don't know what's really going on and what not. There's some obvious parts, for example, where everybody turns to humanoid lizards, but then you see these very, very weird transitions and just don't know what's going on. If you can take a lot of raw emotion and love stoner films, I truly, truly recommend you see this modern classic of a movie. Oh, and get the book.

Miss Juanina

Sadly, today, we recently got the news that a teacher we all knew and loved, Miss Juanina, passed away after suffering from some health complications. The least I could do for her was write a small tribute to all the wonderful things she has done. She was known as one of the more benevolent teachers. Every time you saw her, she had a smile on her face. She always had a positive attitude.

She was a loving mother, great teacher, and a model citizen. She would always help those who needed it. She always brightened your day, and she always made you feel loved, no matter what. She would always call everyone "bebe", and was a fan of Mickey Mouse. Her only daughter, Miss Wawa, is an excellent teacher and it's because she learned everything from her mother. She worked for so many years at the school, my mother and uncle remember her as one of the best teachers ever. My family and I feel so greatful to have known her and have had her in our lives.

Rest in peace, Miss Juanina.

So, 2011 was one of the greatest years mankind has ever seen. This was a year of innovation, entertainment, evolution, revolution, life, death, hope and despair. I've never seen a year in which the people took so many matters into their own hands. There were many events, let's have a small review of the year.

January

-Estonia accepted the Euro into their currency.

-Southern Sudan held the referendum on independence.

-Floods and mudslides in Brazil killed 903.

-The Arab Spring happened, in which President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia, after 23 years in power.

-37 are killed and 180 others were wounded in a bombing at Domododevo Airport in Russia.

February

-Arab Spring: The Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resigns after widespread protests demanding him to leave the country.

-Uncertainty over Lybian oil arises, rising its price 20%, causing the Energy Crisis.

March

-A 9.1 earthquake hits the coast of Japan, bringing with it a great tsunami which floods most of the island and kills many.

-October 31: Symbolical Date in which the population of the world reaches 7 billion.

-UNESCO admitted Palestine as a member.

December

-The U.S. declares the end to the war against Iraq.

-Tropical Storm Washi creates 1,257 fatalities in the Philippines.

Not only did these events happen, there were also many deaths. The most noticeable, of course, were Osama Bin Laden, Muammar Gadhafi, and Steve Jobs. Amy Winehouse and Ryan Dunn were other noticable casualties. The Sultan of Saudi Arabia is worth mentioning. The most recent, noticeable one was Kim Jong Il, which means that there will be a lot of change in South Korea also.

So, yeah, there were many life-changing events this last year. There will never be another one like this one. What I do hope, though, is that the next one is better. Why? Because this year, the revolution, the change, it can't end. If we want to progress, we have to keep moving forward. The world is advancing, nobody can be left behind.

What will happen in 2012? Will North Korea become capitalist? Will cloning be legal? Will there be a big change, like the Mayans said? (No apocalypse, those are lies). What about the new generation? Will they try to take power from the old one?

We have to recognize, though, that this year, the Person of the Year isn't anybody specific. It isn't Obama. It isn't Gadhafi. Not Kim Jong-Il. Not even Steve Jobs. No, this was the year of the protester. This year, the protester freed the Middle East, the protester occupied Wall Street, and the protester will be the one to decide what's going to come next. We're not going to take any crap from anybody anymore, we will either be free, or die trying, and in 2012, I can only hope that the world keeps moving forward like we did this year.

5: Facts You Didn't Know About Christmas

Ah, Christmas. The great Christian Holiday in which sales and charities boom, while the other religions have their own other celebrations, like Hannukah for the Jews and such. Around the holiday season, some weird stuff happens. Also, during history, weird shit has gone down on December the 25th.

5: The Biggest Christmas Present Ever

The biggest Christmas present that has been given is, wait for it, the Statue of Liberty! The huge monster of a statue was sent by the French to the Americans in 1886. The lumbering statue is 46.5 meters high and weighs 225 tons. Beat that, current governments of the world!

4: Santa's Delivering Speed

Some scientists did a fun study and calculated that the speed that Santa Claus would need to deliver all of the presents in the world is visiting 822 homes a second at 650 miles per hour. Does the fat guy stop time or how the hell could he do it?

3: Xmas

Although many think that Xmas is the irreligious way of saying Christmas, the X is a Greek abbreviation which means Christ. Also, you can imagine the X as a diagonal cross.

2: Birthdays

A lot of notable people were born on Christmas. Conrad Hilton, founder of Hilton hotels, and great grandfather of Paris Hilton, was one of them. Another one was Robert Ripley, the creator of Believe it or Not! Humprey Bogart is in the list also. Notably, Sir Isaac Newton, one of the greatest scientists of all time, was also born on Christmas. The most special one for me, though, is my little Brother. I asked Santa for a little brother, and he was born December 25, 2000.

I do not think you understand the gravity of this.

1: The Birth Of Christ

It's speculated that the birth of Jesus Christ didn't even go how the story described it. Supposedly, Joseph and Mary arrived to Bethlehem weeks before the birth. Also, he was said to be visited by magi, or wise men, but never was it mentioned that they were three. The Bible also doesn't describe angels singing. Jesus was said to be born in a cave, not a stable, and Joseph and Mary didn't stay with some innkeepers, they were with some relatives. Also, Jesus was said to be born around September. The Holy Roman Church took the liberty with the date, because the Bible didn't really say anything about the day he was born. Still, working the fields in December? Nuh uh, unlikely.

Also, scientists rebuilt Jesus's face, he probably looked like this. You know, since he was born in Israel.

4chan vs. 9gag Aftermath

So, the attacks finished, and 9gag's still standing. Basic functions of the site were taken down by an attack which was planned in just a day, which is impressive, quite frankly. The problem was that Anonymous didn't use their full power, they needed to organize this with more time.

A lot of people are wondering who's better. Now, seriously, 4chan wins. Why? The problem with 9gag was that they claimed they created many memes. No memes are created on 9gag, at most one or two. The other problem was that 9gag creators were selling stuff with memes, which is intellectual content that they didn't create, and which also makes them a corporation. The last problem was a poster which got upvoted a lot, which used Anonymous's slogan, with 9gag's name in Anonymous's place. That was the worst part.

You dun goof'd.

Guys from 4chan started posting pictures with gore, pornographic content, and stuff like that, without the NSFW tag, which meant that anybody could see them. This made a lot of people be repulsed by the content, and others were even wondering what the hell was going on with people. They tagged the site as a disgusting thing, and frankly, they ain't going back.

The other problem is that most 9gag users are 14-year-olds who do not know how to treat the internet, and they provoked the beast. They didn't know how to handle the situation, which led to a lot of them being, as is put by /b/rothers, butthurt. The issue wasn't that 4chan was jealous of 9gag, the issue was that 9gag users provoked them, and, of course, they have to know their place. The final boss of the internet is 4chan, and if 9gag keeps provoking them, they're just asking for more.

So, 9gag and 4chan, specifically /b/, are having an all-out war on 9gag. The guys from /b/ are posting gross pictures with unnamable content, and upvoting it so it gets at least to trending. Well, who should you support? 9gag or 4chan?

Unfortunately for 9gaggers, wherever 4chan is, Anon is, and this is a battle that will most likely be won by Anon. I mean, seriously, 9gag claims to be the birthplace of memes and such, while the people there are mere posters. The memes are born on reddit, tumblr pages, or, where most are born, 4chan. Also, the 9gag store sells things with memes on this. Hot Topic was attacked by Anon for doing the same, so, unfortunately, their attention shall be put on 9gag for now.

This belongs to Anon, not to 9gag.

Tomorrow shall be the real attack. 9gag's already been taking defensive measures, but when you're dealing with /b/, you're in for a hell of a lot of trouble, so, 9gaggers, I'd say be ready to say goodbye to 9gag, just in case.

Kim Jong-il

So, I just got the news that one of the world's most unintentionally funny dictators of all time died yesterday. Yuri Irsenovich Kim, the supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (ironic, ain't it?) died of myocardial infraction while he was on a trip on a train. Myocardial infraction is also known as heart attack, so now you have a good idea of how he went.

You mess with the wrong guy.

The guy had a cult of personality so bizarre that he inherited from his father. He was just weird. It was like he didn't take his job seriously. I mean, you're a supreme ruler, you have to rule well. The guy had specific tastes. He had a fear of flying, and loved movies so much he had a collection of over 20,000 of them. He refused to eat anything that wasn't made in Korea except for French wine.

As protrayed here.

Kim was also a good golfer. He could score 3 or 4 hole-in-ones in a game. He also composed a few musicals. He was said to be a good negotiator, with a sense of humor, but was also good at making negotiations difficult. He had the same personality disorders as other insane dictators, too. The guy was, in two words, fucking weird. Well, good riddance, huh? Let's see how his son turns out to be.

Christopher Hitchens

Yesterday died one of the most important people on earth. Christopher Hitchens, one of the "Four Horsemen" of New Age atheism, aside Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and C. Dennet. He suffered esophageal cancer, and he got a pneumonia that finally made him pass away. He had a carreer that spanned four decades, both as a columnist and a critic. He praised people like George Orwell and Thomas Jefferson, and critiqued others like Mother Theresa and Henry Kissinger, the alleged war criminal. (He criticized Mother Theresa because of her supposed failure to treat people under her care, her religous feelings towards abortion and her embracement of poverty, which goes against progress).

I don't always criticize, but when I do, it's so society can move forward.

He was very critical of the War in Iraq. He was labeled as a neoconservative, but he denies being any kind of conservative. He described himself as an antitheist, saying that a person "could be an atheist and wish that belief in God were correct," but an "antitheist is someone who is relieved that there's no evidence for such an assertance." He argued that the conception of God was a totalitarian belief that destroys individual freedom, and that free expression and scientific discovery should replace religion in terms of teaching moral ethics. That could mean a lot of progress, if you ask me. He wrote a lot about athiesm and the nature of religion in his 2007 book, God Is Not Great.

I can bet many of you readers will get mad for me posting this.

The man was voted one of the top five public intellectuals in the world. He had a style of debating that was very agressive and direct. He was a great man, who defended the right of many people throughout the world, and was in favor of progress. He will be missed, and since the world is a worse place without him, technically he's in a better place. Rest in peace, Hitchens.

Exercise In The Morning Vs. Exercise In The Evening

All right, so since I got on vacations, I decided to go to the gym in the morning rather than the evening. The change was weird, exercising in the morning is so similar and different from doing it later. The main difference of course, is that in the morning you're well-rested and all, but in the afternoon you're all full of energy from the food you ate. So, which is better?

And you can finally be the sexy well-oiled love machine you want to be.

It depends on what you want. If you want to have the day free for yourself, you should go in the morning. This has a few benefits too. You stay energetic throughout the day (if you want to nap, then this sucks, though). You're also going to be hungry all day long, this is good, but don't overeat. It means your metabolism is working. The thing about going in the morning, though, is that if you're taking a class, you're probably going to be the only one there.

I know you know I'm lying, but this is your last set!

In the evening, you've already got the energy you needed from food and you can go and burn it off. It's great because you don't arrive tired (unless you had a busy day) and, well, more people go to the gym. It's great because after the workout you can socialize. The problem is that if you're having a hard time, nobody's going to be able to pay attention to you, the trainer has his hands full.

SENSEI! MY LEG GOT A FUCKING CRAMP!

Of course, in the end the effect's almost the same. You get off your lazy ass and do shit. And, of course, that's kind of cool, because you can't eat while you're off your lazy ass. It all comes down to personal taste. I, for one, rather go in the morning than in the evening, but that's just me. Some people train at 10:00 p.m. (I've seen a few). So, yeah, do whatever you want.
