How to optimize your flash drive for best use ?

While formatting a flash drive ,most of us don’t pay attention to the setting in the format box and just click Start but the right choice of format system and allocation unit size can make a lot of difference.The two pictures below show the great difference in the transfer rate of the same file on the same computer with default settings and when the same flash drive was formatted according to the needs.

Choosing the allocation size and file system depends upon many factors like Running operating system,types of file,features required and size of files.

Selecting the file system:-

FAT32-

Advantages-

It is the most compatible system which works over operating systems like MS Dos(ver 7.0 and higher), Windows 98/XP/Vista/7 and Linux and Mac OS X and higher.It is also compatible with many other devices such as Televisions and A/V receivers.
Copying is usually faster or equal to NTFS due to less complexity.
High performance on small volumes.

So FAT32 is the winner when you want to go for compatibility as it is supported by most of the operating systems being used today and also many other devices.

Disadvantages-

Cannot format drive with size larger than 32 GB.
The maximum size for a single file is limited to only 4 GB.
Maximum files on volume is limited to 4194304.
Maximum clusters number is limited to 4177918.
Doesn’t have features like Encryption, compression, Disk Quotas and Volume Mount points.
Lower performance on large volumes.

NTFS-

Advantages-

Has maximum number of features like Encryption, Compression, Disk Quotas, Sparse files, Reparse points, Object permissions, Alternate Streams and Volume Mount Points.
Allocation unit size up to 64 KB.
Maximum file size is 16 TB.
Maximum files on volume are as high as 2³²-1.
Maximum clusters number is 2³²-1.

NTFS is the best file system if you want most number of features.

Disadvantages-

Is compatible with only Windows NT and higher versions.
Copying can sometimes be slightly slower due to more complexity.
Low performance on small volumes.

exFAT-

Advantages-

High performance on all sizes of volumes
Maximum volume size up to 128 PB.
Maximum files on volume are nearly unlimited.
Maximum size of a file is 16 EB.
Allocation unit size could be as higher as 32 MB(much higher than both FAT32 and NTFS).
Data transfer speed is better than or equal to NTFS in most cases.

exFAT is best when compatibility is not the issue and you want high performance on all types of volume sizes with some features and you want the greatest range for allocation unit size.

Disadvantages-

Very limited compatibility including Windows CE 6.0/Vista/7 and windows XP with this update.
Not as many features as NTFS.

Selecting the allocation unit size:-

Allocation units are the granularity with which disk space will be allocated to files, so if you have a 4k allocation unit, a 1k file will be allocated 4k, and a 10k file will be allocated 12k likewise a 16k file will be allocated 16k . A smaller allocation size will give less "wasted" space, but will also be “slower to access” (actual data) due to increased MFT/FAT access while a higher allocation size would give “higher speed” but more “wasted” space.This means that if you want to transfer very large single files you should set higher allocation unit because it will give good access speed and very small space would be wasted, but if you want to transfer many small files you should go for smaller allocation sizes to prevent loss of huge space .

The example could be seen in the pictures above where a file of about 700 MB is being copied(large single file).In the 1^stpicture the drive was formatted with FAT32 file system and 4096 bytes of allocation unit so the speed was around 4-6 MB/sec while when the same drive was formatted with exFAT system and 64 KB of allocation unit the speed rose up to about 25-28 MB/sec.

How to Backup/Restore Drivers

We all know how important it is to take backup of all our drivers.Often we need to transfer drivers from on machine to another,in case we lose driver cd or setup.Sometimes,We also need to do so when we want to transfer some drivers from from windows XP to Vista/7(In case we are forced to do so).Here’s how to do it:-

Download Drivermax from here.
Install it.
In Drivermax click Backup Drivers.Click Next.After that it will list the drivers installed.Select the drivers to take the backup of and click next.

Select the location and it will start copying the drivers.That’s it!

To install these drivers on other machine (using Drivermax):-

Just click Restore drivers from backup.
Click Next.
Browse the folder with drivers.
Click Next.
Select the drivers to install.
Click Next.

“It will take time depending upon number and type of drivers selected and some drivers may need a restart to take effect.”

To install these drivers (using windows device manager)

Click start button.
Type”Device Manager” and click on it.Here you will see various devices listed.
Select the device to be updated and click the update icon.
Click “Browse my computer for software”
Browse the location and click Next.
It will list the drivers and just select the driver to install.

“It will take time depending upon number and type of drivers selected and some drivers may need a restart to take effect.”

Today while surfing my bookmarks I found a really interesting site mrdoob.com.There are lot of interesting experiments on this site and experiment I liked the most was the “Google Gravity” and the “Sphere”.

When you open Google gravity experiment It will first display the classic Google homepage and then suddenly the different tabs of Google will fell like in the image above.
In the sphere experiment just drag a picture from your computer and it will display how will the image look on a spherical surface
There is another experiment “Google sphere” but it is different from the sphere experiment stated above.There is a video on the same below.

Inserting read more in your blog is very simple if you write your post in blogger post editor.You just need to click on “insert jump break” but the problem may come for some users who use Windows Live Writer.Here’s what you have to do.

Effect of liquid nitrogen

Reason behind the experiment:-
   Nitrogen makes up almost 80% of the atmosphere by volume. Gas can be cooled down and pressurized to make liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen is cold, inert, colorless, odorless, non-corrosive, nonflammable liquefied gas with a temperature of - 196 °C/ - 321 °F. It immediately boils in contact with a warmer object, so basically any object on room temperature. As it causes frostbite on any tissue use of cryogenic gloves as well as goggles is recommended.
     Look inside the Dewar flask and notice the bubbling liquid. Liquid nitrogen boils at room temperature. Condensed water vapor forms the fog above the liquid nitrogen. However instead of rising like steam, it sinks.
     Two objects of different temperatures, when put in contact with one another exchange thermal energy. This causes the warmer object to cool and the cooler object to warm. Cooling a solid only lowers the temperature of the solid, but the solid will not change states. Some materials get harder while others just get brittle.
     If you immerse flower in liquid nitrogen it becomes very cold, water molecules rapidly crystallize to form ice so the flower becomes more rigid and fragile. So on one hand you could "prepare" easily breakable flower, marshmallow or a gumdrop, and on the other hand you could hammer a nail with a banana. Dependable on the size and mass of the object used it will prove to be hard or easily breakable after being frozen in liquid nitrogen.

So Microsoft finally reveals some information about the anticipated Windows 8.It appears to be a complete change of the Windows interface, designed around a tile system like that of Windows Phone 7, and focused on being equally accessible via touchscreen interface or mouse and keyboard.

Microsoft referred it as “reimagining” of windows which will be able to run on all types of devices from small,touch screens to large screened PC’s.It will be able to function with or without keyboard and mouse.

Windows president Steven Sinofsky says that Microsoft has “colored outside the lines” on this release, and while they’re retaining support for all the major applications and enterprise features, the new interface is meant to be fresh, fast, and accessible.Steven also said that even the iconic Start button would be left behind.

System requirements weren’t discussed in specific, but Sinofsky said that “hundreds of millions” of PCs would run Windows 8, and that it wouldn’t require anything much more than Windows 7.

Release date is undetermined; Sinofsky said that traditionally OS releases are every two to three years, but it wouldn’t be coming out this fall (i.e. two years after Windows 7 was released).I hope that it will be released before mid 2012 for consumers.

Today after googling for couple of hours to know how to download any video from YouTube in 3gp and some other desired formats ,I came across to several links and videos on YouTube and finally found my answer in one of the comments on a YouTube video(sounds a bit shocking but trust me).

The answer was http://www.tubeminator.com.

It was simple enough for even a rookie. Just copy the video link and paste it in the box and click the START button. It will take a bit of time downloading your video and then you will be and then click to go to step 2.

Choose your desired format, resolution and you can even crop a part of the video if you like.

Then again it will again take some time to convert your video and you just have to click on download your video and this is it.

Unfortunately you can only download three videos per day if you are not registered.

How do torrents work ?

Many a time a question arises in our mind that how do these torrents networks work?

Here's your answer!

Torrents are peer-to peer or p2p networks.

For example say if you want to download a movie(say it"x") and there are about 1000 more people downloading the same movie at the same time then in a server network,the server will be overloaded and people will get lesser speeds but in a p2p network the same file is fragmented or divided into many parts(say 1000 parts) and all the computers downloading the file are inter-connected.

So, what happens is that when you download that movie 1 piece will be going to each of them at first then these 1000 people will share these pieces among themselves and these people give pieces of the same file to you,which will fastly download to your system at your full bandwith speed.

Basically - The file you want to download is broken up into small pieces, each piece is downloaded from multiple sources (seeds) and then reassembled on your computer. You get the download speed from both multiple sources and the fact you are downloading multiple file fragments at the same time.

Hence,you can get files much faster than downloading it from a single server.

The role of a torrent software like bitTorrent here is that it will take all those downloaded pieces and put them together into the file you downloaded.

According to me cricket is favourite sport in india.People's love for cricket in india is endless.Many of the Indians worship some cricketers as their God.This love for cricket first started when India won the 1983 world cup to everyone's surprise .

Street cricket is very popular in India.In the countryside, dried lakes and river beds are often used as playgrounds for cricket.In towns it is played in parks,apartment parkings or on the road as in the picture above.The game requires a very small amount of investment.A tennis or rubber ball is used to play.Bricks or the branches of trees are used as the wickets.
For the toss many innovative forms are used(when a coin is not available for the toss) like a small stone is tossed or the Guess in or out form in which a small stone is clenched in a wrist and wrist is rotated in motion very fast.The opposite captain has to guess whether the stone(or any other object) is still in the wrist or thrown away.The captain winning the toss almost chooses to bat first, not considering any facts like pitch condition.

The length of the pitch is usually smaller than the actual 22 yard pitch.

The umpire is usually a person who is not playing from any of the side.In absence of such a person a player from batting side acts as an umpire.There are lot of disputes betwwen the teams on issues like wide ball,run out,no ball,four,six etc.

A batsman is declared out if he breaks a window,hits the ball out of the park and in all such cases.
