Jesse & The Sadie Hawkins Dance

This past weekend, while we were in Georgia, my little sister went to the Sadie Hawkins Dance. I say little, but she'll actually be 15 next week. FIFTEEN! This means a learners permit and lots of new exciting adventures for her. When Darren and I began dating, she was still eating baby food. Where has the time gone?

Anyhow, she got dressed up and looked really beautiful as always, so I couldn't help but take a few pictures of her. It has been raining all day for several days, so the ground was mushy and it was just plain yucky outside. However, she indulged me and I got a few shots of her, as well as some with Raileigh.

When her longtime boyfriend, Austin, arrived to pick her up, I even got a few of them together.

She said the dance was a lot of fun-- much better than she had expected! I am glad that I got to be there and see her all dressed up for the dance.

Taboo-- The Game of Forbidden Words {Review + Giveaway}

Be careful. Opponents will be listening for these Taboo words that can’t be used in game play. Each time a team hears a Taboo word they can sound the new “Uh-Oh!” buzzer, signaling that the opposing team’s turn is up! However, if team members guess the word before the buzzer sounds, a point is won.

The new game changing die adds even more excitement to the game, forcing players to do things like not speak or use their hands on their turn!

This all-new Taboo really is a lot of fun. It's designed to be played in teams, so you'll need 4 or more players. It's perfect for an at-home game night, a get together with friends, or any party or event you might be attending.

Dark Chocolate Kreme Filled Doughnuts at Krispy Kreme

Let me just start by saying that my family loves Krispy Kreme. With a last name like "Glaze", how could we not? In fact, Darren uses a Krispy Kreme Hot Light app, so we always know when the Hot Light is on at our nearest Krispy Kreme. When we're on the road, this app also makes it easy to find a nearby Hot Light as well.

Our favorite variety tends to be a dozen of the Original Glazed. You just can't go wrong with the classic. However, I occasionally find myself enjoying a Chocolate Iced Doughnut with Sprinkles alongside my daughter.

This time of year, though, I am drawn to another doughnut at Krispy Kreme-- the Dark Chocolate Kreme Filled Doughnut. I first discovered this incredible treat last year. After one bite, I thought I had died and gone to doughnut Heaven. However, this treat for chocolate lovers is a limited time deal, and unfortunately I discovered it near the end of the promotion.

Imagine my delight when I received an email that this amazing doughnut was returning this year! I made plans on my birthday to head to our local Krispy Kreme and get one (okay... several). I was crushed when I found out that my Krispy Kreme is not participating in the Chocolate Lovers promotion.

So, when I went home to Georgia this past week, stopping by the Krispy Kreme there was at the top of my list. This was where I had first experienced the Dark Chocolate Kreme Filled Doughnut, so I was certain I could find what I ~~needed~~ wanted there.

We picked up some of my favorite doughnuts (and a few others for everyone else as well) and headed to a local park to enjoy our treats. It was just as good as I remembered, perhaps even better. Maybe that's because I have been dreaming about them every since I enjoyed that first Dark Chocolate Kreme Filled delight last year.

Hello Again

Raileigh and I at Neel's Gap in North Georgia a few months ago

It has been quite a while since I have been here.

I figured that it was about time to give you all an explanation as to where I have been and what is going on.

The truth be told, I just needed some time to reevaluate this blog and my life in general. I had began to feel quite unbalanced and was at the point where a change was necessary. For quite some time, I had convinced myself that this meant the blog must go.

In the weeks since Christmas and my last check in with you, I stepped back from everything that is involved with Wee Share- the actual blog, as well as email and social media pages. I have been doing a lot of crafting, baking, and spending time with my family. We've also dealt with a few medical issues, welcomed a new niece to the family, and began making some changes for our personal future.

During this time, I have had quite a bit of time to think about Wee Share. Just because you haven't seen me here doesn't mean that this blog or all of you haven't been on my mind. It's taken me a little time, but what I have realized is that leaving completely is not the answer.

However, in order to make this blog work for me and be of better service to you, some things are going to have to change. First of all, there is a very good chance that you will see less reviews and giveaways. Oh, they will definitely still be present. In fact, I was recently accepted to a few exciting blogging programs that I cannot wait to tell you about. However, I am going to be a bit pickier about the products I choose to share with you. You won't be seeing any more events with over ten featured products per day. That was insanely crazy and took up a ridiculous amount of time.

Additionally, I want you all to get to know Desi the Person a little more. I think now you all know me more as Desi the Reviewer. I hope this is okay with you. It's something I need to do for me in order to make this blog more of the outlet I desire it to be. I want to share with you the antics of Raileigh and the new things that she is learning. I want to show you all of the fun and beautiful places we are exploring around Charleston.

I am also one of those strange people who actually makes some of the things they pin on Pinterest. I am nowhere close to making everything I have pinned, but I am enjoying trying out as many new recipes and craft ideas as I can. I want to share these projects with you. I have discovered some seriously amazing meals and treats that I know you will just love.

So, hello again. If you're reading this, I want to thank you for sticking around. Also, if you have emailed me in the past month or so, I will try and get to that email. The truth is that I have THOUSANDS of emails to look through, so I will try and not miss any... though I am sure it will happen. I look forward to getting back into the swing of things and corresponding with each of you again.

Epson Artisan 730 All-in-One Printer {Review}

Just over a month ago, the Epson Artisan 730 All-in-One Printer came to live with us. The timing could not have been better. We were about to replace the color ink cartridge in our old printer, and that is honestly something that I dread. Purchasing those tri-color ink cartridges can sometimes cost almost as much as purchasing a new printer!

Our new 4-in-1 Printer (print, copy, scan, photo) was one of the easiest we have ever had to install. All in all, the complete set-up, including removing everything from the packaging, took less than half an hour. The hardest part was deciding what to do first with it!

The Epson Artisan 730 All-in-One Printer is loaded with features-- many more than I have ever experienced in a printer before. Here are just a few of them:

My favorite feature, however, is the wireless printing capabilities. The Epson Artisan 730 All-in-One Printer comes complete with Epson Connect, which allows users to print your documents, emails, web pages, or photos easily and wirelessly.

This is truly an amazing feature. I can lay on the couch and print from my laptop. My husband even has the ability to print directly from his iPhone. I am certain that he has printed numerous things just because he can! We don't have to be annoyed with a plethora of cords. We just hit "print" from wherever we are in the house, and our document is waiting for us by the time we walk to the printer. It is amazing!

I am also absolutely smitten with the individual ink cartridges. Often times, the color cartridge needs to be replaced before all of the colors have been used up. It seems a bit wasteful and definitely gets expensive. However, by offering individual ink cartridges, you only have to replace the color that needs it. This creates less waste and will help to keep a few extra dollars in your wallet.

The printer actually comes equipped with 6 individual ink cartridges. Most printers come with a black cartridge and a tri-color ink cartridge, containing red, blue, and yellow. I have to think that having 6 colors in the Epson Artisan 730 All-in-One Printer as opposed to 4 colors would result in more vibrant and accurate printing.

We have used the Epson Artisan 730 All-in-One Printer many, many times since it arrived. I have not even scratched the surface as far as what it can do, and I am already impressed. We have printed coupons and gift certificates that scan perfectly at the store. If you have ever tried to use a coupon printed at home before, then you know that this frequently is not the case! My husband even printed a mask to wear on Halloween, and it was incredibly sharp and clear.

Then, there are the photos. Oh, the beautiful photos that the Epson Artisan 730 All-in-One Printer can print. We don't live near our family, and they absolutely love to see photos of Raileigh as she grows. Instead of having to send all of my photos off to be printed, I can now print them right from home.

Worried about the photo quality? There is no need to be. You will actually get better-than-lab-quality photos with the Epson Artisan 730 All-in-One Printer. Tamron AF 18-270 Zoom Lens {Review + Giveaway}

It's no secret that I LOVE to take pictures. Though Raileigh is my favorite subject to photograph, nothing is safe from my camera.

I got my first SLR camera almost two years ago. Darren surprised me one evening with a trip to Best Buy, where he purchased the Nikon D3000, plus an additional lens for me. Since then, I have been carrying the camera, the standard 18-55 lens that comes with the camera, and my 55-200 zoom lens that we also purchased, almost everywhere I go.

It has been really wonderful to have the ability to capture things happening close to me as well as a bit further away. However, I have to admit that it can be a pain to switch back and forth between the two lenses. I have missed more than one shot trying to get the proper lens on my camera. It can be really disappointing.

Needless to say, when I was given the opportunity to check out the All-In-One Zoom Lens from Tamron, I was more than a little excited. This 15x Zoom Lens has all of the zoom capabilities of my other two lenses combined into one beautiful lens. The All-In-One Zoom Lens features a zoom range of 18-270mm.

Though this lens is a smidgen heavier than either of my other two lenses, my camera bag as a whole as gotten lighter. That is because I have gone from carrying two lenses with me all the time to just carrying one. I love the versatility of the Tamron All-In-One lens. It has eliminated the need for me to carry multiple lenses with me. Plus, I don't have the hassle of having to switch back and forth between lenses when I am shooting. It is quite nice.

So, I am sure that you are wondering what the picture quality is like on a lens with this much zoom power. Quite simply, it is amazing. Immediately, I noticed how sharp and crisp my photos are, regardless of whether I am close to my subject or far away. Even though I choose to edit almost every one of my photos, the quality of photos I am taking is really straight out of the camera.

One thing that helps these pictures to look so good right out of the camera is the Vibration Compensation (VC) feature that the All-In-One lens has. Whenever we're holding a camera, our bodies naturally move and shake just a bit. Add jumping children or other mobile subjects to the mix, and the chance of getting a blurry photo is quite high. However, Tamron offers unique tri-axial VC helps to combat the image blur caused by camera movement. What you are left with is unsurpassed image stabilization.

Since receiving the Tamron AF 18-270 Zoom Lens, I have taken photos in a variety of settings. The lens has not let me down. Each time, it has preformed well, allowing me to capture moments that I might have missed before. I want to share some photos with you that I have taken with my new All-In-One lens. These photos have received no editing, and you are seeing them just as they appear straight out of the camera.

Ever since Raileigh was an infant, she has thoroughly enjoyed "fixing" things. We got her a pretend tool set, and she carried the screwdriver, hammer, and wrench around the house, repairing everything in sight.

Skuut Wooden Balance Bike {Review + Giveaway}

Raileigh really wants to learn how to ride a bicycle. The thing is... I am just not sure that she's ready yet.

However, we are now on the right track to helping her learn to ride. We recently gave Raileigh her very first bike- a Wooden Balance Bike from Skuut.

Now, this isn't a traditional bike like you would normally picture. Skuut bikes actually have no pedals! So, how exactly does a bike with no pedals work?

Well, children kick off the ground as if running, thus pushing or "skuut-ing" themselves and the bike forward. The Skuut is perfect for learning balance, steering, coordination and independence. After mastering the Skuut, transitioning to a traditional bike is supposed to be no big deal at all. I knew that the Skuut would be the perfect way to teach Raileigh all of the skills that she needs to ride a bicycle.

When I pulled it from the box, Raileigh was a bit confused. She asked where the pedals where, and I told her that it didn't have any. Then, she wanted to know how she could ride it.

Of course, the assembly had to come first. It was really easy to put together. It took me maybe 5 minutes to get everything in place and tightened. The seat is adjustable, so I was able to set it at the perfect height for Raileigh.

Then, she went for her first ride. I just told her to use her feet. It was pretty amazing how quickly she picked up on the concept of the Skuut. Of course, she was just walk/ riding it, but she was definitely getting the idea of the bike.

I know that as Raileigh continues to ride, her skills will increase. I am sure that it won't be long before she is coasting down the driveway on her Skuut, and not long after that until she is ready for a traditional bike.

Teach Children Spanish with Boca Beth {Review + Giveaway}

I am quite certain that Raileigh can speak Spanish better than I can. About a year ago, I discovered that she had picked up quite a bit of Spanish from watching Dora the Explorer. She could count to 11, name all of her colors, and speak random phrases with ease. And, I had not even done a thing to teach her this Spanish.

I began to winder how much more she could soak up if I made an effort to teach her the language. I began looking into ways to immerse her in both English and Spanish and was led to Boca Beth. I really like this method as opposed to others that I have seen. It seems to be quite effective to me, especially since I am learning much of the Spanish along with Raileigh.

There are shakers and puppets for the kinesthetic learners. I know from experience how important it is to offer materials to children in the way in which they learn best, while still sharing other types of learning with them to continually expand horizons. With the materials from Boca Beth, this is really simple to do.

So, after using the Boca Beth program for a few weeks, do I truly feel that it is effective? Yes. It is engaging. Every time I pull out the materials from Boca Beth, Raileigh is interested and ready to get going. That helps a lot. I have also seen that the parallel method they use works. Raileigh will be speaking to me in English and just throw in a random Spanish term or phrase. Being able to seamlessly transition between the two languages is pretty amazing.

We'll be beginning an at-home one-on-one preschool in January, and I cannot wait to delve further into teaching her Spanish. I know that the tools from Boca Beth will make it easy to continue to immerse her in a second language.

Raileigh has always had a thing for animals. From a very young age, she has been able to identify more animals than anyone else I know. She even enjoys watching live animal shows on television.

I really like how the canopy folds down into a slide for the monkey and child figure to use. I think that this might be Raileigh's favorite feature as well. She will create little scenarios while she plays (they're at her favorite park, they are visiting the jungle, and more). It's great to see her imagination at work.

We are definitely fans of the Wild Rides from National Geographic Kids. I hope to see this line expanded to include more wild rides that we can add to our collection.

Have you ever noticed that all children's tableware tends to be plastic? Usually I am fine with this, but there are times when I would like something a little bit nicer to use. During the holidays, it's just a bit odd to have our nice dishes out alongside a bright pink plastic plate. Sure, I could just let my toddler use our tableware, but in all actuality it's a bit disproportionate to her.

The simplicity of the items in the Duralex for Kids collection makes it possible for me to pair them with any of my holiday or everyday dinnerware. I love that we have graduated from the plastic tableware and on to something a whole lot nicer.

My Thoughts

Recently, our family has undergone a lot of change. We relocated 5 hours from our closest family to a new home. It can be really difficult to explain to Raileigh why she can't just go over to her Nana's house like she used to. Change is hard for me to understand sometimes, so I can just imagine what is going on in her mind!

Recently, we began reading a book together that is all about change-- I Had A Favorite Dress.

This dress centers around a little girl who had a dress she loved. She wore this dress on one certain day of the week. However, one day the dress became too small. So, her mother helped her to turn it into a shirt. The new shirt becomes her favorite until it becomes too small as well. The pattern continues, as the former dress morphs into a tank top, skirt, socks, headband, and more.

What is so great about this story it that it gives a good example of adapting to change. Instead of just being sad that the dress no longer fit, the little girl and her mother took this as an opportunity to create something new and different.

In relation to our current situation, I know Raileigh is sad that she cannot just visit with her Nana like she used to. I am sad as well. However, we have to make the most of our current residence, and enjoy the people and places that surround us here. We also have to learn to make the most of every minute that we now get to spend visiting with our family.

It's no secret that Raileigh loves books. I would venture to say that she would rather cuddle up with a good book than play with most of her toys. Each night before she goes to bed, Raileigh chooses at least three books for us to read together. After she has carefully makes her selection, we read them in the order that she decides.

Recently, we have been reading several books from Barefoot Books over and over again. It seems that my little book lover just cannot get enough of the beautiful, unique books that they offer.

One Moose, Twenty Mice is a lovely book that practices counting from one to twenty. Most counting books only go up to ten, and I really like that this one goes further. Raileigh has been counting to ten for a very long time, and could really use more work on recognizing two digit numbers. So, this book is perfect for her.

The illustrations are stunning. They appear to be hand-stitched felt scenes that are impeccably well done. In addition to being a counting book, One Moose, Twenty Mice is also a hide-and-seek book. On every number page, a clever little orange cat is hiding. We have had a blast finding him amidst the other animals we're counting-- frogs, whales, monkeys, and more.

Alligator Alphabet

Recently, Raileigh is fascinated by what letter every word starts with. She asks me what hundreds of things start with each and every day. So, Alligator Alphabet is an ideal book for her right now.

You see, this book features at least one animal that starts with each letter of the alphabet. So, by reading Alligator Alphabet she is learning that emu starts with "E", kangaroo starts with "K", and more. I love that this book is encouraging some independent learning. Plus, the pictures are so bright and colorful, that you can't help but be drawn to and entertained by this book.

Do you have a little one that loves to learn? Raileigh absolutely loves to uncover new knowledge. As a result, I am always on the lookout for fun and creative ways to teach her things.

I would like to introduce you to one of our new, most favorite activities-- 10 Little Penguins Stuck on the Fridge. This is a delightful learning tool that has the ability to entertain and educate simultaneously.

First of all the set comes with a variety of magnets-- fish, penguins, a whale, a bear, jet ski, ice berg, water, numerals, and addition, subtraction, and equal signs. The magnets live on our fridge, but you could also use them on a cookie sheet or other magnetic surface.

Raileigh has thoroughly enjoyed just playing with these magnets. She will create scenes on our fridge and likes to put numerals beside each other to create 2 digit numbers.

However, the real magic comes when you break out the book that comes with the magnets. It is full of ways to use the magnets to teach basic math concepts. One activity has the child stack fish to see how many fish equal the height of the bear. You can also stack penguins and see how many of those it takes as well.

We have also used the fish and penguins to do basic math problems. One fish plus two penguins equals three animals. The book has a lot of ideas to help make these magnets a teaching tool. There are many, many ways in which to use them-- you're really only limited by your imagination.

Since 10 Little Penguins Stuck on the Fridge, we have spent hours sitting on the kitchen floor enjoying these little guys. It is a pleasure to see Raileigh having so much fun and knowing that she is also learning at the same time.

Introducing the Pixie Night Light from Beaba

If you're a parent, then I am sure Beaba is a name that you have at least heard of. Beaba is well-known for their fabulous Babycook-- a product that easily gave parents the option to offer homemade baby food to their infants.

Today, I am here to share with you another product from Beaba. I would like to introduce you to the Pixie Night Light.

There is not much that phases Raileigh, but the dark is one of those things that does. At night, her room gets pitch black, and this scares her a little bit. We have tried numerous night lights in her room. However, none of them had all of the features that we needed-- some were too bright, some would shut off too soon-- there was just always an issue.

Then, we found the Pixie Night Light from Beaba.

We don't have a table beside Raileigh's bed. However, I can sit the night light on the floor near her bed and the light glows plenty bright. I am using the brightest setting since the light does have to travel from the floor.

I love having the Pixie Night Light in Raileigh's room. When she awakes in the middle of the night, I don't have to worry as much about her stumbling into something as she makes her way to our room. So far, she hasn't chosen to pick up the lantern and bring it with her, but I think that is because she is too groggy to even think about it!

The Pixie Night Light is just what we needed to add a bit of light to Raileigh's dark room. The fun, whimsical design fits well with in room and the features are exactly what we were looking for.

aden + anais Dream Blankets {Review + Giveaway}

Raileigh loves blankets. Year-round, whether it's hot or freezing, she loves to be wrapped up in a snuggly blanket.

We live in a rather warm climate. It does get a little chilly here in the winter, but for the most part it doesn't get too cold. All of the thick, fuzzy blankets that Raileigh tends to use are a bit much for where we live.

So, I began looking for a less-bulky alternative to offer her. My search led to aden + anais and their unique line of Dream Blankets.

We received one of the lovely Dream Blankets to check out- the Baby Cakes Dream Blanket. It is made from 4 layers of soft, luxurious 100% cotton muslin.

So, what is so great about muslin? The muslin is incredibly breathable, meaning that the blanket can provide plenty of warmth without overheating. It is one of the world's oldest woven fabrics. It was used by the Ancient Egyptians to swaddle their children, the Greeks and Romans to create robes, and in 17th century French to make petticoats. Today, aden + anais uses this age-old fabric to create their Dream Blankets, in addition to the swaddles and other products they offer.

Raileigh is quite smitten with her Baby Cakes Dream Blanket. It is a generous size- 47" x 47"- and it is quite easy to snuggle up underneath. Almost every single night, you can find Raileigh and one of her stuffed friends (or, "friends that don't talk", as she calls them) nodding off into dreamland under the Dream Blanket.

With that much use, I have had to wash the blanket several times since it arrived. Each time I pull it from the dryer, it looks as good as it did the day it arrived. The blanket is quite durable, and I know it will be able to withstand all the love and cuddling that Raileigh has.

Teach Your Child Foreign Languages with Little Pim {Review + Giveaway}

I am quite certain that my three year old knows more Spanish than I do. She has picked up a variety of words and phrases that I don't even know. In fact, when we visited Disney World this past year, she was continually telling me a phrase in Spanish as we waited to see Buzz Lightyear. Finally, a women behind me said that she was asking to be put down!

It amazes me how much her little mind can absorb and retain. This really is the prime time to begin teaching her a second language. Little Pim understands this. The DVD introduced her to a lot of basic words that are associated with eating and drinking, including various types of food that we eat. You could tell by what some of the kids were wearing that portions of the video looked to have been shot a while ago. However, everything was still incredibly well done got the point across quite well.

We have already watched our Little Pim DVD several times. Raileigh cannot quite sit through the entire thing just yet. However, I can see the little wheels in her head turning as she absorbs words from the portions that she does see.

Additionally, we have had the opportunity to check out the Little Pim French Bop Music CD. This CD is really a lot of fun. The songs are in French, so as the music plays, Raileigh is being immersed in another language. However, the beats are so fun and energetic that even if she doesn't know all of the words yet, we can still dance to the music!

I am convinced that Little Pim truly does offer a plethora of great resources to teach your child a foreign language. Already, I have seen Raileigh learn several new words in French and we haven't even been using the products for that long. It's fantastic!

The first time that I handed Raileigh the Gyro Bowl, I told her that she wouldn't be able to spill her snack. I guess she viewed this as a challenge, because she walked around for quite a while swinging the bowl around and trying to spill the contents! I did find one piece of cereal on my floor, but I am not certain if it fell from the bowl or she dropped it there.

The Gyro Bowl is top rack dishwasher safe. However, I have had a hard time keeping the inner bowl from turning open side up when in the dishwasher. So, we generally choose to hand wash the bowl.

I truly wish that the Gyro Bowl had came into our household sooner. There definitely would have been a lot less mess to clean up!
