Activists in Lyari have blamed the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for the violence that has claimed the lives of several residents from the area, with some even going as far as saying that the ruling party has sidelined elected legislators and handed over the locality to criminals. As a result, residents who survive on daily wages live in constant fear and are afraid to step out of their homes.

The activists lashed out at the party on Thursday and said it had forced the youth to become fuel for the fire being spread by criminals. “We have supported them for the last 43 years and sacrificed a lot to bring them to power,” said a dejected activist, who was reluctant to be named.

“Now it is too late. The PPP is losing ground,” said one of the activists. They believed that political leaders should not have been cornered in this manner as they can play a vital role in restoring peace by taking community leaders into confidence. They added that those in power were incapable of addressing the situation.

In the wake of the gang war that has claimed dozens of lives, an air of gloom has surrounded the once vibrant area as parents are mourning the loss of their children or shattered families are praying for the safe return of loved ones. Due to the lawlessness, workers living in the area, comprising mainly youths that survive on daily wages are unable to earn a living as the elders of their family prefer to keep them at home for security reasons.

Many of these youngsters are the sole bread earners of their families and people from the neighbourhood fear that if these individuals are not allowed to reach their place of work, it could spell troubled times for several families in Lyari.

“Lyari is a neighbourhood that contributes towards the workforce at city ports, markets, factories, the harbour and the construction industry. Since most of the labourers earn daily wages, reaching the workplace is essential in order to put food on the table for the rest of the family. However, the volatile security situation has compelled many of them to stay home and thus hampered their ability to earn money,” said a social activist from the area. He urged human rights activists and politicians to take notice of the increasingly unstable security situation.

The Karachi Fish Harbour was also directly affected by the gang-related violence as hundreds of workers involved in offloading seafood could not reach their workplaces. Those who dared to venture out also returned home, fearing for their lives. Local activists said that several youngsters chose to stay indoors instead of putting their lives at risk.

Over the years, people from various ethnic backgrounds have peacefully coexisted in the once vibrant neighbourhood of Lyari. But the violence has forced most of them to consider moving out of safer areas. But the gang war is not only limited to Lyari and other old city areas such as Golimar, Mauripur and Mowach Goth have also been affected.

Reports surfaced of people grabbing passengers out of buses and beating them for their alleged support for criminals. One of the more horrifying incidents reported was the murder of five youngsters who had stepped out for some shopping. The bodies of the victims were then handed over to their parents as a ‘gift’. A senior activist warned that the violence could spread to the entire city and prove disastrous for people from all walks of life.

I request my readers to note that no one from Lyari will be arrested for this Urdu Speakers massacre in Lyari as it is all planned by PPP own Senior Minister Zulfiqar Mirza who wants Civil War in Karach.

Violence flares again in Karachi

KARACHI- After a lull of hardly a week, Malir and Landhi areas where again in the grip of organised bloodbath on Friday as unidentified attackers claimed 14 lives and wounded another 22 while two houses were also set on fire in Karachi.
Police surgeon Dr Hamid Padhyar told that 10 bodies and 15 injured were shifted to JPMC, 2 dead bodies were shifted to Sindh Government Hospital, Malir and one body and four injured were brought to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The deceased were identified as Niaz Muhammad, Muhammad Ibrahim, Akram, Akbar Ali, Naseer Ahmed, Azeem, Jamshaid, Nadeem, Murtaza, Iqbal, Ikram, Khalid and Shafique, Nabi Khan and one unidentified person.
Eyewitnesses said over a hundred gunmen equipped with sophisticated weapons and walkie-talkies barged into different areas of Malir and Landhi and resorted to firing at different locations dominated by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The police high ups termed the incident as a clash between the rival organisation, MQM and Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqqiqi (MQM-H), but MQM workers and residents asserted that it was a planned attack and that most of the attackers were Balcohs and Pushtoons.
Police sources said that two activists of Awami National Party (ANP), Mustaqeem and Akram Khan, were killed in Landhi and Quaidabad areas while an MQM-H activist Iqbal alias Ballo was also gunned down in the Quaidabd area.
Eyewitnesses said that assailants, who were thought to be Layari gangsters, came on expensive four-wheel-drive vehicles including double-cabin Parados and motorbikes. They entered the Ghazi Town and Aleemabad areas of Malir after the dawn prayers.
“We believe the attack was an attempt to let the MQM Haqqiqi capture the MQM offices and dominate the area,” said a girl who reached JPMC along with his brother injured during the ambush. She said, “We saw armed men having guns and walkie-talkies showering bullets on the houses of MQM workers and offices.” She said the attackers appeared to be mostly Balochs, Pushtoons while some of them were Urdu speaking.
The attackers were moving forward to different areas of Malir and targeting MQM Unit and Sector Offices and killing people without any discrimination on the way. She said, “We believe it was an attack by MQM-H with the help of Baloch gangsters of Layari to regain the control of the area ahead of the arrival of detained Haqqiqi leader Afaq Ahmed.”
After an attack at MQM Unit 100 Office located in Aleemabad, the armed convey moved toward other areas of Malir including Khokhrapar, Saudabad, Ammar Yasir Society and the adjacent areas where they killed men standing outside their homes.
Some residents said that armed men came from slum areas of Malir and got back to the slums after the attacks. They spent the night in different Goths situated in the surrounding areas of Malir such as Bahoo Goth, Asoo Goth, Jhokio Goth and barged into Malir at around 6:30am.
They said the attackers also attacked the houses of MQM workers and killed some MQM workers including Nadeem, Niaz, Naseer and Azeem in the early stage of the attack. Another MQM worker Salman Ahmed was shot dead near Ajmair Tower in the Gulshan-e-Mamar.
The MQM Unit Offices attacked included those numbered 94, 95, 96, 97, 98 and 100 where gunmen stayed for around two to three hours and exchanged fire with MQM workers, who were backed the residents, till the arrival of law enforcers at around 11am. They fled the areas on arrival of the law enforcement agencies, but stayed in Jhokio Goth till the evening. Residents alleged that they pinpointed to the police and Rangers about the locations of the terrorists but they were reluctant to take any action.
Similar ambush began in the Landhi area where armed men also forced their entry into the MQM dominated areas and tired to capture the MQM Unit 89. But the attackers met heavy resistance from the MQM workers and three of them were wounded who died on the way to hospital.

Rising political temperatures: Military brass opposed use of force against MQM

LAHORE: Amidst straining relations between the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and its estranged coalition partner, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the military brass is learnt to have opposed a series of moves that could have adversely affected an already tense situation – including any move to launch an operation in Karachi.

The military brass had also expressed displeasure over the possible induction of controversial former Sindh home minister Zulfikar Mirza on a sensitive post in the federal or provincial cabinet, The Express Tribune has learnt.
“Mishandling Karachi’s situation, or using coercive means against the MQM, is not something the country can afford at this point in time,” brass as telling top civilian authorities. The military has advised the government against launching any operation against the MQM, which pulled of the ruling coalition last month.
However, PPP’s information secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the government was not planning any operation against the MQM. But at the same time, he added, “I don’t think the military would stop the government from taking action against the law breakers in Karachi.”
Sources said that the PPP was planning either to make Mirza governor of Sindh or to assign him a portfolio in the federal cabinet after getting him elected to the Senate. Reports of such a move had earlier begun appearing in the media. But the military is said to have precluded such a move.

Sources said that the PPP had planned an operation against the MQM, particularly against it supporters among the Kacchi community in Malir. And Mirza, who has good relations with the Sindh police, had alerted the police officials belonging to interior Sindh but serving elsewhere in the country. Mirza’s plan envisaged an operation against the Urdu-speaking people in order to coerce the MQM into compliance. Mirza’s recent meeting with Afaq Ahmad, the chief of MQM-Haqiqi, was actually a message to the MQM.

When contacted by The Express Tribune, Presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar refused to comment on the issue and instead switched off his cell phone when pressed hard.
Sources said that the military brass contacted MQM chief Altaf Hussain and assured him that the government would not launch any operation in Karachi. Following the assurance, Altaf cancelled a scheduled address to a general party workers meeting on Monday.
Babar Ghauri is said to have contacted PML-N Senator Ishaq Dar to seek support against any operation in Karachi. And PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, in return, held out an assurance that his party would oppose any operation against the MQM in Karachi. Sources said that the two parties would soon start a movement against the PPP-led government from the platform of a grand opposition alliance.
The Express Tribune has learnt that, following its failure to muster military support against the MQM in Karachi, the government’s top leaders took a ‘U-turn’ and decided to send PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to Nine-Zero to assure the MQM on behalf of the president that the government would not launch an operation in Karachi. Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the government’s coalition partner might have endorsed Shujaat’s trip to Karachi.
However, the MQM said the Chaudhry was in Karachi to attend a wedding ceremony and not to reconcile the MQM with the PPP. “Shujaat visited Nine-Zero to sympathise with the MQM over the atrocities the party has been facing in the city,” MQM’s Joint Incharge Information Secretary Qamar Mansoor told The Express Tribune.
He claimed that the PPP has made the PML-Q a coalition partner at ‘gunpoint’. And the day Moonis Elahi, son of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, was released, the Chaudhrys would pull out of the ruling coalition. Moonis has been in police custody for his alleged involvement in the multi-billion -rupee land scam in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL).

Today PPP and PMLN using all the administrative machinery and their terrorists faught pitch battles against each other injuring and killing each others workers to get seats in Kashmir elections, but the 2 big parties were no where to be seen when Kashmiri's needed them the most, After devastating earth Quake back in 2005.

Both PPP and PML N did nothing for the people of Kashmir and now playing politics, It was MQM who worked day and night for the people of Kashmir not only admired by the local Kashmir's but by International Community and also by Anti MQM person Ayaz Amir of PMLN who not only after seeing the work of MQM wrote an Article in Daily Dawn but also raised Slogan of Jiye Altaf.

I wanted to ask a simple question to PPP and PML N who are contesting elections in Kashmir, where were they when Kashmiri's need them and what they did for them when they were dying due to hunger, cold and diseases after the Earth Quake?

The best and the worst

GO see for yourselves, as I have done this past week, and you would repeat Dickens’s opening salvo in A Tale of Two Cities: it was the best of times; it was the worst of times.

Only in our case it has been a tale of two countries: the native half of Pakistan at its best, the instruments of Pakistani governance at their worst. The dichotomy couldn’t be starker nor the lines of this divide more clearly drawn across the very soul of Pakistan.

Pakistanis in the mass never had much faith or trust in their governments before. But whatever was left of this feeling lies buried with the other debris of this earthquake.

Why are Pakistanis in their thousands willing to travel all the way to Balakot or Muzaffarabad to deliver relief goods but reluctant to hand over anything to any government agency? Why are they willing to give to such organizations as Jamaat-ut-Dawaah, the Jamaat-i-Islami’s Al-Khidmat or the Edhi Foundation but not to the President’s Relief Fund? Because of this profound distrust which has only deepened after seeing the government’s response to this crisis.

From Hazara to Azad Kashmir voices arising from the deepest recesses of the heart will tell you how grateful they are to the people of Pakistan who came unbidden in their hour of need. I heard this in Balakot amidst the ruins and I heard this in Muzaffarabad. But as God is my witness in all this wide arc of disaster not one word, not a single one, did I hear in praise of the government or the army.

Having been in uniform myself, I say this with a heavy heart. Why have things come to this? In 1971 wherever we went people greeted us, waved at us, gave us food and offered help. Helping the army was considered a privilege and even when Dhaka fell and our eastern command laid down its arms, they didn’t blame us soldiers, they said we had been stabbed in the back. People held Yahya Khan and his coterie (and their serious tippling) responsible for the debacle, not the army as a whole. It all seems so long ago.

That the government was slow to respond is by now generally accepted. But that’s in the past and there’s no use crying over it. What is alarming, and quite difficult to understand is the government’s continuing failure to treat this disaster on a war footing. It is bigger, far bigger than the ‘65 war, bigger than 1971. But you wouldn’t guess this from the designer suits or relaxed countenances of Pakistani officialdom.

Balakot and Muzaffarabad may be overflowing with relief goods but much of it is not reaching the mountains which still remain cut off. The road from Balakot to Naran has yet to be opened and it’s not easy given the nature of the terrain. The road from Muzaffarabad to Ath Maqam (close to the Line of Control) has been cleared by army engineers for about 10 or 12 kilometres. The rest of it is still closed. Some trucks (including those of the UN’s World Food Programme) are carrying food as far as they can. For the rest, villagers have to trek across the mountains.

I asked some of the villagers carrying a single bag of flour on their shoulders how long it would take them to reach their villages. One said eight hours, another 16 hours. In Kashmir distance is measured not by kilometres but by the time it takes to reach your destination. Helicopters are the only alternative but there are not enough of them around. You see them flying to and fro but this is far from the Berlin airlift that this disaster actually requires. Our American friends for their part have still not been able to match action to words. They were the ones who could have given us the most helicopters but for some reason — no doubt associated with the ongoing mess of ‘the war on terror’ — have chosen not to.

Just in the past few days USAid and the Pakistan government have signed an agreement worth eight million dollars for the ‘capacity-enhancing’ of the national and provincial assemblies. We may need more helicopters but the US embassy has still has its heart set on some of its cherished priorities. Bemusing but there it is.

This crisis has demonstrated that the Punjab government is in a class of its own. Talking of which is there no way known to man to curb the publicity craze of its chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi? Not a day goes by without his public relations guys, surely the most successful PR outfit in the country, writing creative fiction for his greater glory.

When the earthquake struck he was in London and his concern for the victims was so great that instead of returning immediately to Pakistan, as lesser mortals might have done, he flew off straight to Washington where he stayed for a series of medical tests and a round of iftar dinners, his tour lasting 12 days, this when thousands and thousands were trapped in rubble or debris. If there was any higher justice in Pakistan he would be served with a gagging order.

Much the same is true of the rest of the civilian government. Anything by the name of government is not to be seen in the quake-hit areas. But newspapers are full of the exploits of Shaukat Aziz and his army of cabinet ministers. Seen against the backdrop of what has actually happened, this craze for publicity looks positively obscene. If these ministers are up to no good, they can at least spare the nation their antics.

But the question is: if anything by the name of organized government is not visible in the disaster zone, what is? Well, we have received prompt help from abroad and this can be seen with the naked eye: Saudi help, UAE military hospital, Qatar military hospital, field hospital from Iran, countless western NGOs, Helping Hands from the UK very active, WFP as I’ve already said, the French seen here and there, the US delivering supplies at Chaklala and, from what I hear, being amongst the most efficient in unloading the planes — the Americans coming equipped with their own forklifts and having enough soldiers not to need any help from the Pakistan authorities — tented villages from Turkey (brave, generous Turkey), the Chinese, doctors from Taiwan, doctors from Indonesia, a large medical contingent from Cuba, some world-class surgeons from Russia (at the Children’s Hospital in Islamabad I was told that the Russians were just marvellous — they arrived at the airport at four in the morning and insisted that they be taken straight to the operation theatre, working with so much commitment and singlemindedness that they seemed scarcely made of flesh and blood) and so many other countries that it’s hard to list all of them. To understand the full scope of this assistance, you have to see it with your own eyes.

And then the Pakistani nation which in the midst of this crisis seems to have rediscovered itself. Knowing the myriad rivers of corruption which run through everyday life in Pakistan, you wouldn’t have considered this possible but it has happened and it is unbelievable, a tide of assistance channelled to Balakot and Muzaffarabad by a river of people acting on blind impulse.

Much of this assistance was disorganized and chaotic but that perhaps is what was needed in those first few days when people in the stricken areas were just sitting out in the open, grateful for whatever they got. But now the relief effort is more organized. And guess who is in the forefront of this organizing? Islamist organizations such as Jamaat-ut-Daawah (the latest incarnation of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed’s famous Lashkar-i-Taiba), Al-Khidmat of course, Al Badr, Al Rasheed Trust, Al Mustafa Trust and the MQM. At the Muzaffarabad Press Club, its building all fallen, the highest praise was reserved for Jamaat-ut-Dawaah and the MQM.

Indeed the MQM’s relief camp, which is the base camp for its relief operations in Azad Kashmir, is set up just in front of the Press Club. I saw it and was moved by the way they were handling the relief effort, their volunteers going to the outlying areas, there giving chits to those in need, and, on the basis of those chits, handing out relief goods. There was a huge stock of medicines and food inside while doctors were attending to the sick. I was told that trucks carrying relief supplies were coming from Karachi every day. For the first time in my life (and I hope it is the last) I felt like saying, “Jiye Altaf”.

Taliban ask people to kill Farooq Sattar, Jasmeen Manzur and others in Karachi

Just few days back we have posted a video on Sirf Karachi in which a Molvi was giving fatwa against Urdu speakers and urging the followers to do jehad against Mohajirs because Mohajirs are from Jews Race.

Sirf Karachi also expose the silence of Media on the issue and published a post written by a Doctor from Karachi but Media didn't pay any attention and now Talibans distributed pamphlets in Karachi Pukhtun Populations most of them are No-Go Areas for Local Police and Law Enforcement agencies.

In these Pamphlets Talibans Urge people to kill Politicians, Journalists, Police Officers, Religious Clerics by declaring them Jews and asked the people that if they failed to kill these people kill their families.

Interestingly not a single name of any ANP leader from Karachi is included in this hit list.

After the inclusion of Senior Journalists like Jasmeen Manzoor, Kamran Khan and Mazhar Abbas i request media to please show the world what is happening in Karachi and how Talibans are getting foothold in Karachi with ANP sindh facilitation and help of religious parties like Jamat e Islami.

Miscreants distribute ‘hit list’ leaflets in Karachi

KARACHI - Unidentified terrorists have distributed instigating leaflets in various outskirts of the city to maintain a ‘hit list’ of anti-jihadi personalities and kill them and their family members.
The copy of the handbill, obtained by The Nation, showed scores of high-profile personalities’ list and indicated to enhance it. It showed a set schedule to kill the said personalities. It gave the names of various personalities belonging to journalist community, political, non-political figures, government high-ups, intelligence officials and law enforcement agencies personnel.
The communiqué justifies jihad and urges to wage jihad against the people, who are creating problems against the jihadi elements, and also asks individuals to maintain the hit list of people and kill them after taking ‘fatwa’ from religious clerics.
The areas where the communiqué, composed in Urdu was said to be distributed included Keamari, Kunwari Colony, Sultanabad, Manghopir, Sohrab Goth, Ittehad Town, Baldia, Orangi Town, Metrovill, Korangi, Saeedabad and others. “Make the list in a sequence and if you feel any problem to achieve the target, kill the family members of target,” the leaflet reads adding that it was aimed “To make the list of wanted criminals because they are the actual criminals labelling jihadis as terrorists.” The communiqué includes the names of 18 people at the hit list. The names are Jasmin Manzur, Mazhar Abbas, Kamran Khan, Veena Malik, Begum Nawazish Ali, former director general Federal Investigation Agency Wasim Ahmed, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Karachi Saud Mirza, CID SSP Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Khan, CID SSP Fayyaz Khan, Anti Violent Crime Unit Chief SSP Farooq Awam, Special Investigation Unit chief SSP Raja Omar Khattab, Sunni scholar Mufti Naeem, Shia scholar Mirza Yousuf Baig, Dawat-e-Islami chief Ilyas Qadri, Muttahida Qaumi Movement leaders Haider Abbas Rizvi, Faisal Raza Abidi, Farooq Sattar and Rashid Qureshi, the former spokesperson of the former president of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf.

The communiqué ends with provoking poetry “Pas Aey Shehsawaran-e-Islam. Utho Aey Allah k Lashkar. Agay Barho Aey Din ki talwaron. Chamko aur bijli ki karak ban kar dushmanan-e-Din per tot paro.” The leaflet further said that the definition of a ‘wanted criminal’ had been changed, as earlier, it was used for robbers and dacoits but after 9/11, it was started to be used for the people who were honest and sincere with Islam and wanted to wage jihad. It said the real wanted criminals were those people who were dishonest and insincere with Islam rather they were engaged with plotting against Muslims.
The communiqué stated that these elements played their role as the backbone of ‘kufar’ (infidelity) adding that these personalities included the leaders of non-Muslim countries, United Nations, World Bank, IMF, diplomats of European countries, multinational companies owned by the ‘Yahood o nasara’ (jews), army leadership, police and intelligence officials, leaders of the secular political parties, top officials of bureaucracy, media and others.
When contacted, IGP Wajid Durrani said the police had the details about the distribution of the said letters and investigation in this regard was underway.

Jehad calls against Mahajirs and silence of Ghairat / Be-Ghairat Brigade.

It was a shocker for me, belonging to a family who migrated from the state of UP to Pakistan after partition and bearing pain of losing 3 of my maternal uncles in the post partition riots, I never expected to listen this shit that i heard and watch on youtube, a frustrated Molana delivering fatwa in pushtu urging his followers to wage Jehad against Mahajirs and called Mahajirs race of Jews.

I quickly rang one of my staff in Qasba Colony and asked him about this, his reply was horrible enough to beat the shit out of me, he replied they had not just announced the jehad, they are doing it from last three days, They are firing on the top of the hills throwing hand grenades in Mahajir houses, looting and killing people, where is Police and Rangers I asked? They are giving them security he replied.

I searched for the latest updates on local papers, logged on to my twitter account and found nothing regarding this except few MQM walas crying on the issue and nobody else bothered to pay any attention on it.
Next day it was MQM who not only released the audio captured by a local TV cameramen braved enough to sneak into Qasba for covering the events but also gave a warning to elements who announced Jehad against Mahajirs by a threat, This is not 1986 this is 2011.

But the thing that bothered me was the strange silence and cold behavior of media, Social Media Gurus and so called liberals of Pakistan who never waste a chance to ridicule and malign religious forces of Pakistan (Right Wingers) also having a pet name Ghairat Brigade on social medias in front of the world on this very dangerous issue, In response the right wingers used word Be Ghairat Brigade for these Liberals, Leftists and Mummy Daddy social media time passers and journalists.These Ghairat and BeGhairat Brigades are always at war against each other and never agrees on anything, but the Jehad calls against Mahajirs made them united none came out against it nor condemn it.

I am one of those people of Karachi who never paid attention on politics of ethnicity, i saw rise of MQM and bloody operation against it, I worked at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and saw everything but that too didn't convinced me to vote for MQM as i always consider me as a Pakistani rather a Mahajir, but this incident in which I was declared as Jew and calls for jehad against me raised publicly forced me to stop considering myself Pakistani, Like Pushtuns, Balochis, Sindhis and Punjabis who says they are Pushtuns, Balochis, Sindhis and Punjabis first and Pakistani second, i was surprised to see that all the civil society, Media, Anchorpersons and Social Media barkers sealed their lips on this issue when people like me was called Jew and calls for Jehad were raised against me.

The Cold behavior of Ghairat and Be Ghairat brigade could be because of their ethnic prejudice against Mahajirs but their behavior is surly pushing Mahajirs to the wall, These Ghairat Brigades and Be Gahirat Brigades have so much motherly love for the Muslims around the world and minority sects in Pakistan but they don't have interest for 8% population of Pakistan called Urdu Speakers or Mahajirs.

Thank You Gahirat and Be Ghairat Brigades you made me Mahajir from Pakistani, My message to all Mahajirs irrespective of their political association to get united as this jehad call is not against MQM it's against Mahajirs and these people are not asking before killing a person you are in MQM or not they are killing a person because he is a Mahajir.

This jehad call is also a wakeup call for Mahajirs in different political parties they too should ask their parties why they are tight lipped on these Jehad calls against Mahajirs?
