I am all for shopping through apps, and PepperTap is a quick grocery shopping app which has been recently launched. So, I downloaded the app to check it out and was pleasantly surprised by its concept and stylish design.

The app itself is quite sleek, and did not take a lot of time to download, and it did not eat up too much space. Once installed I quickly opened the app and after an initial false start where the app did not load, the second time, and the app geared up quickly and asked for my location. I put in my city and locality, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they deliver to my neighbourhood.

After you enter, you would find the products distributed into different segments, so that you can find the products easily. At present, they have a short but comprehensive list of products, which are quite necessary for virtually every household. I was curious about the products, and after a quick check through the different segments I realized that you would be able to shop for a number of products, including vegetables.

Once you go to the individual segments, you would see the list of available products, and options for buying it in different sizes or quantities. For example, if you want to buy onions, and more than the standard 500 gm., then you should click on the green “More” button to check out the different weights in which it is available. Similarly, products with different weight or quantity can be easily found through this manner. Just click on the shopping cart icon, and the product is added to your cart.

After you have what you need, it is time to check out. Currently, PepperTap is giving a discount offer for first-time visitors, and they deliver the products to your house for free if your bill is more than 250/- INR. The ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival, described as the greatest literary show on earth, today announced 165 world-class Indian and international authors set to contribute to a spectacular line up for its 2016 event.

Taking place from 21 to 25 January 2016 at the beautiful and historic Diggi Palace Hotel, the ninth edition of the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival sees leading authors of our times coming together in a global celebration of literature.

Headline names set to appear at the festival this year include the legendary Margaret Atwood, poet, novelist, literary critic, essayist, and environmental activist, even as her new novel, ‘The Heart Goes Last’ is appreciated by her many fans around the world; Ruskin Bond, beloved to generations of Indian readers; Steve McCurry one of the world's greatest living photographers; controversial Harvard historian Niall Ferguson and Britain’s national treasure Stephen Fry.

Laal Keema Nachos

Those who told me to go die in a fire, after I posted the photo of the Rose and Pistachio Cupcake I had at Bon Appetit, this is for you. Behold, the Laal Keema Nachos. This is a combination of spicy keema, plenty of cheese, freshly chopped peppers, and crisp nachos. To say its good is an understatement - its what you will need when you feel hurt and tired and want to ensure that someone loves you in this world.

And if you love Sunny Side Up eggs as much as I do, put an egg on it, I say! Break the yolk, and dip your nachos into its runny depth, and savour the crunch from nachos and the silky egg. Together.

Shorshe Machh Quesadillas

And if you feel that Nachos are not really your thing (you are inhuman, but I shall forgive you, because you're reading this post), what do you think of some Shorshe Machh Quesadillas? These have a spicy mustard flavour, and that surprisingly is nice with the cheese. However, my favourite is the Kosha Chicken Quesadilla, as well as the Spicy Paneer one - although the Kosha Chicken is not kosha in real, but that's just the Bengali snobbery that is deeply encrusted within me, and difficult to dig out.

If you like Burritos, the Bon Appetit versions contain no rice, but plenty to make up for it. The Double Egg and Mustard Burrito has a pungent kick from the kasundi while the Tuna and Chutney version is quite interesting, and made for those who love Tuna with a vengeance.

But, nothing is complete without dessert. I fought for more of the Asche Bochhor Abar Hobe, where Narkel Naru and Kheerkodom are dipped in chocolate, and served with vanilla ice cream, although I picked them up straight off the pan, and consumed them. Think about it - Chocolate-coated Kheerkodom.

And oh, yes. The Cupcake. Here it is. Hate away. But come over a get one. Bite into one, and you'll find solace in the sweet filling inside.

R tells me he thought about me while making this one. You must realize why I love him dearly.

But, if you really want something completely different, then try the Paan Mousse at Bon Appetit. Its got everything a paan has, and more. Don't miss out on the gulkand and paan topping. It just enhances the flavour, and the aftertaste is what makes you happy. The Pujo menu is going to run in the cafe for the next two weeks - from Mahalaya to Laxmi Puja, 2015 (12th to 26th October, 2015), and you should definitely check out their Salt Lake or Hazra outlet.

I received the Summer Delight fragrance, and decided to give it a whirl.

The process of use for the Air Wick Life Scents is fairly simple - you need to take off the cap of the refill, put it inside the black container, insert the two AA batteries provided, and then shut the container. Turn the container around, and set your fragrance level by rolling the adjustment tab, and then place it where you want it to work its magic. I placed mine inside the loo, since that is the biggest challenge for any product such as this.

The Air Wick Life Scent Summer Delights is not exactly my favourite - its got too much of vanilla and melon for me to like it, but the effectiveness quotient is definitely impressive. I set the product to run at medium speed, and after two weeks, it is working fine. The bathroom smells nice, and if you spend some time inside, a little spraying sound, followed by a hefty dose of the perfume, would be experienced. Overall, I would say this product definitely does what it is expected, and is a good investment if you need your home to smell nicer.

To appease the taste buds of the Bengali crowd, The Bridge at Floatel will be serving a special menu between 18th and 25th October, 2015, serving both Durga Puja special lunch and dinner buffet, as well as a-la-carte dishes, which have been curated specifically for the festive season.

I spoke to General Manager Arindam Bose who was excited about the offers available. Currently, Floatel has a number of special Puja packages which would not only include an overnight stay at a deluxe room, but also a complimentary Pujo Special gala lunch buffet at the Bridge restaurant, live entertainment programmes, and river cruise, and a trip to the Belur Math, which are all complimentary. There are also attractive discounts on food and beverages, and a chance to see the Ganga Arati, or the 'Bisharjan', if the day and time permits.

I spoke to the chef about the menu, and he was quite happy to share with me the theme. This time, the special Thakurbari recipes have been added to the menu, including "Kadambari's Pabda Shorshe Jhal", or the delectable "Kaju Bata Murgi".

There is also the Goalando Chicken Curry, which has been given a little twist. This item was included into the menu keeping in mind the hotel's theme, and it is one of the special attractions of the menu.

There is also the rather gorgeous "Narkol chingri", and for those who are not that fond of fishes, might enjoy the mildly sweet "Bashonti Polao" with the "Sabeki Chhanar Dalna".

There is a little twist to the "Posto Diye Ilisher Tel Jhal". In general, a "Tel Jhal" is made with mustard, but the chef uses poppy seeds with a considerable amount of green chillies and mustard oil, and the result is indeed delectable.

The bonus is definitely a gorgeous view of Kolkata, and the beautiful Howrah Bridge, all lit up, which is, of course a mind-blowing scene. The dishes are available both as part of a buffet (1200/- plus tax per person), as well as a part of the a-la-carte menu, and the best part is, the place is open 24/7, so drop in after a hearty bout of pandal hopping, or for a quick lunch before you head off to the next Pujo.

A Wine Lover's Eve with Princess Sabina Corsini at Hyatt Regency, Kolkata

I am sitting with a glass of Prosecco in my hand, watching the crowd brave the torrential rain and enter the intimate space of La Cucina, Hyatt Regency. Around me, glasses clink, mirth spills, and there is a general sense of merriment which comes, perhaps, with anticipation.

Princess Sabina Corsini reigns over this space, walking around in all her glory, introducing herself to the guests, and indulging in conversation about the wines she will be presenting to the Indian market. J looks around rather anxiously till the meal begins, and I make my selections quickly, anticipating an evening of mirth, a few bottles of good wine, and perhaps something more, and so, of course, glasses are filled, and re-filled, and the sound of wines being poured is always a beautiful sound to me.

Caprese

Our menu has been kept simple, to match the wines served to us on the table. A simply designed dish of Caprese is presented on a bed of Zucchini Carpaccio, the slivers of the vegetable mildly aromatic with the olive oil, and the Mannara Pinot Grigio, which is cold and sharp, with citrus notes and a rather dry finish, a nice way to wake my palate up. Although I am not much of a fan of dry whites, the sharpness does complement the milky mozzarella slices of my salad.

A rather intriguing Caramelized Onion and Cheese Tart is next in line, and although I find its crust a bit too hard for me to cut through, the onions are sweet and a hit of rocket livens it up with its peppery notes. The light drizzle of balsamic is needed to balance the flavours of the shards of Parmesan.

With this, we have a rather new White from Villa Antinori, with fruity notes, and a zesty hit of citrus to keep things interesting.

For our mains, I choose one of my favourites - the signature Lamb Shanks at La Cucina which Chef Sumeet Priyadarshi excels at. I tasted these a few weeks back, and could not forget the taste, so a re-cap was necessary.

And Chef Sumeet does not disappoint. The Lamb Shanks are succulent, tender, but not mushy, the roasted vegetables accompanying it are fork-tender, and I pick up a bread roll to mop up the juice.

With the robustness of the lamb, I sample the Durvillea Marlborough Pinot Noir 2011, which has rich cherry and currant notes, not too sweet, and a finish which I am not much of a fan of, but I find myself finishing my glass all the same.

We have a lovely light dessert, the Truffle Panna Cotta, with a generous hit of strawberry coulis on top. I did miss the rather beautiful Sant'Andrea Corsini, which is an excellent wine to be had with some cheese, but at this point, I was pleasantly full and quite mellow from the wine and food. Corsini wines are going to be served in India soon, and you should look out for their Chianti, where I dare say, there are a few winners.

Designer Sabyasachi has collaborated recently with Asian Paints to bring a gorgeous set of rich, layered décor into your home with Nilaya, a luxury line of wall covering. Although the brand will be launching pretty soon, here's a quick preview of their collection, which is divided into five themes, which are India Baroque, Jodhpur, Spice Route, Makhmal, and Varanasi. Each of these lines represent a particular strand of the historic heritage of India, and are unique in their own way.

The five different themes are quite beautiful in their own way. I received a preview from Asian Paints, where I was able to explore the themes and find out more about them. While India Baroque is all about the richness and glamour of the Kings and Queens of the bygone years, Jodhpur explores the shades of blue, using block prints and paintings to express itself. On the other hand, Spice Route takes you back to the original trail of spices which led people from all around the globe to India, and the colours are inspired by the spices of India, and their lingering warmth.

Hyderabadi Food Festival at Durbari, Swissotel, from 18th to 24th September, 2015

My fascination for the city of Hyderabad and Hyderabadi food is a very old one. It started off when I was a little girl, and my cousins, who stayed in the city, would come over, and bring an assortment of strange new goodies and I would learn strange words they would use. They would speak of the biryanis they ate, and the shops they bought pearls from, and open a fascinating world for me. To top it, my uncle would cook mutton, flavoured with spices and mint, and let me watch for hours. On my recent visits, I had a lovely time exploring the food scene of Hyderabad, and that is why, Durbari's Hyderabadi food festival was a very interesting event for me.

Kebab Platter

After consuming a portion of the Marag, a runny lamb bone broth flavoured with coriander and mint, an assortment of Kababs were placed before me, and the Arbi Ke Kabab was the vegetarian offer from it, with mashed colcaccia roots the primary ingredient. It was nice, but could not top the rather decadent Tala Murgh, which was the star of the show, with the crispy curry leaf adding a layer of extra flavours. I also liked the Hyderabadi lamb seekh kabab, but felt that the mince could have been finer.

Breads

We were served an assortment of chutneys and dips along with some roasted papad, and my favourite was the mint one, and the burnt garlic chutney. The Sheermal was, however, very unlike the stuff I have happily consumed in Lucknow, Hyderabad, Delhi or Kolkata, and lacked the sweetness which I generally associate with the bread.

Daalcha

I was rather happy with the Daalcha, a humble dish of lentils and vegetables, cooked together till everything was tender and mingled together. This is a great example of the way food is supposed to nourish and comfort, and I ended up pairing it with the Tehri that was served as well.

Tehri

I have a soft spot for Tehri and this version featured potatoes and cauliflower, two vegetables which are very common in making the dish. The rice was tender but not mushy, the vegetables soft but still retaining flavours - and the spices did not overpower the dish at all!

Methi Murg

Although I am not a very big fan of methi, the Methi Murg stood out, with its fenugreek-laden creamy gravy, and tender chunks of chicken. I was quite happy to finish my meal here, but then, Chef Pranay, who is excited about the meal and regaled us with tales of his experience of Hyderabadi food declared that no Hyderabadi meal was complete without some Haleem and Biryani, so well, who would want to leave the table after such a declaration?

Haleem

The Mutton Haleem was rather excellent, a khichra style paste, which was served to us. I missed the fried onions and lemon juice, but the texture of the haleem was spot on, although it was not as spicy as the ones I have had in Hyderabad. However, this was quite nice by itself, and I finished my bowl.

Hyderabadi Dum Biryani

The Hyderabadi Dum Biryani was quite nice too, with chunks of meat and rice cooked together in dum for hours. Again, this was much milder than the Hyderabadi Biryani I have tasted, but I think for the people of my city, even this would be too much spice, since our version of the Biryani is much milder. Served with a creamy raita, this was quite filling, and I could see others take second helpings.

Shahi Tukda (L), Lauki Ka Kher (R)

We had Lauki ka kheer and Shahi Tukda for dessert, and I found the Lauki Ka Kheer to be really well-made, without being too sweet. The Hyderabadi food festival is on at Durbari for lunch and dinner, between 12:30 to 3:30 pm, and 7:00 to 11:00 pm every day, and the dishes are all available a-la-carte.

I am slightly obsessed with hair colours recently, and yes, when I went to June Tomkyns earlier this year, I got gorgeous hair highlights which looked great! Currently, at the Salon, there is a considerable demand for this hair colour, since it looks more natural, and the grey coverage is excellent too!

With the approaching festive season, hair colours are in, and Wella Illumina colours come in three different kinds - warm, neutral and cool. There are shades of brown, gold and red to select from, and I was quite keen on getting a shade which would be dark but with mild accents, so the hair colour selected for me was done with my coloured hair in mind. I was asked to select the shade I liked, and I decided with something dark, and the results were fabulous.

The good news is, after care is relatively simple - colour protectant shampoo, conditioner according to one's hair type, followed by a gel or a serum to give the hair some nourishment. I was suggested one which would reduce frizz and add shine. Ideally, you should get touch-ups done after every month or around 40 days or so.

The entire process of colouring for me took some time. As I had coloured hair, my roots needed to be coloured first, and then the length of my hair. After the application, I waited for about 35 minutes (during which I read a book), and then, my hair was washed for a considerable amount of time, to get rid of the colour, and then styled by the experts. I had mentioned I liked straight hair, so, the final result was quite gorgeous.

If you notice closely, you can see the caramel accents in my hair. I chose to go subtle this time, and am loving my new hair colour. The process, for my hair length, took about 2 hours, and will cost around 4500/-. Longer hair lengths will cost more, but you can get an estimate before you get your colouring done. The result is shiny hair, which, even after three days and two washes, is as shiny as the first time. ITC Kitchens of India: North East Chapter at Eden Pavilion, ITC Sonar, September 18th to September 27th, 2015

When ITC Kitchens of India started off the North East Chapter, I was beyond happy - I am a fan of the simplicity of the food which North East India offers - and when I went to Shillong, earlier this year, I had stuffed myself with as much pork as possible. Naturally, I was looking forward to the food from the Seven Sisters - Arunachal, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, and it was told that I should also expect a bit from Sikkim as well. The event, which has started from the 18th and will continue till the 27th will have one or two highlighted state each day, and the menu will keep on changing. If you are in luck, you might get some really unusual dishes.

Apart from the different dishes set in front of me, there is an array of the special sauces which are quite common there, and of course, I am immediately drawn to the Axone first. Dark and with a very distinct fragrance, Axone (pronounced aa-kho-nee) is made of fermented soybeans, and has a distinct scent which is an acquired taste, I have to warn you. Either you love it, or you do not, and I do. There is also a bowl of king chilli pickle, and the freshness of the Raja Mirchi is what stands out, although the heat has been tamed to a mild burn.

The Chef, who hails from Nagaland, is excited about the melange of dishes - there is a mixture of chiefly Assamese and Naga food, and he explains to us the distinct advantages of the cuisines. "We use fresh ingredients, but not too much of spices. Rather, we rely on a few herbs and spices, and even a dish with water, ginger, garlic and chicken, will have wonderful flavours, because the ingredients are the star here. Country chicken, good meat and vegetables, fresh herbs, smoky flavours, and plenty of chillies are the signature ingredients for Naga cooking."

Dhoka Anja

The menu is part of the dinner buffet at Eden Pavilion, which starts from 7.30 pm, and we sampled an array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. There was the Dhokaanja (or Dhoka Anja) from Assam, where fluffy lentil dumplings were simmered in a tomato-corirander based curry. It was very comforting, and was a great start to our meal, although I think I later regretted the fact that I did not take the moguma daal to accompany the Assamese part of the meal. But I had to forsake that in the favour of the pork and beef that was about to come.

Rosep Aon from Nagaland

The Rosep Aon was a medley of stir-fried vegetables, and the bitter gourd added a hit of bitterness that worked well as a palate cleanser. I picked some of the sticky Jasmine rice from Nagaland for this dish, and later had more of the rice with the Pitika.

Assamese Pitika

I have always been a fan of potatoes, and the pitika was flavoured with plenty of mustard oil, which was perfect for mixing with the rice, and the smoothness of the mash was wonderful. I might have had more of this with my pork, later.

Thukpa

The only dish from Sikkim was a batch of Thukpa, which was pretty much a DIY. There was a bowl of noodle, a steaming broth, chicken and onions stir fried together, and plenty of greens. I liked the DIY, although I found the broth to be lukewarm, which wasn't a great thing for me.

Tenderloin cooked in Black Sesame

Among the non-vegetarian selections, there was a rather decadent Tenderloin cooked in Black Sesame. I am a major fan of meat cooked with black sesame, and the meat here was cooked well, and the smoky earthiness of the black sesame was the perfect foil for thinly sliced meat against the grain. There was also a rather understated dish of Roasted Chicken cooked with Perilla leaves, which was quite unusual (Perilla in Bengali is also known as ban tulsi, and is what the Japanese call shisho leaves).

Pork Cooked with Axone

The Pork cooked with Axone was the highlight of the day for me. The smoky flavours of the meat, the melted fat, and the soft rind - the pork was what made me return, pick up the cover, and eat more. The meat was not fibrous, but it wasn't too soft as well - you need to chew this for a bit, extract every bit of flavours from it, before swallowing. It is a dish which highlights Naga cuisine - the smoky meat, the slight pungency from the axone and the leaves to add an additional set of flavouring - this dish was what made the meal stand out for me.

Assamese Desserts

Dessert contained of two parts - the first part was an array of peetha - steamed and fried. I loved the way the crunchy fried one was mildly dotted with fennel seeds, and the other one had a drizzle of sticky molasses to add to the sweetness. The Naga people are not fans of sweets, so sweet dishes are kept at a minimum. "It's why we have glowing skin," the Chef joked. I had to agree, though.

Rice Flour Cake

We were also served a rather unique rice flour cake, which was spongy and not too sweet, and topped with a thick layer of icing. I wasn't much of a fan of this dish, although the others asked for second helpings, and ended my meal with some freshly brewed coffee, which Eden Pavilion makes rather well. I would have to say, the meal left me replete, and wanting to go back to the North East, and if you want to taste some unusual and tasty dishes, check out the dinner buffet - it would be on till the 27th of this month.

My Take:

The shades I received are all matte and have good colour pay-off. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook (Instagram handle: panushwari), I got a lot of requests for a lip swatch of the shade Tangerine Touch, and I have been wearing it the most ever since I got these shades.

The colours do not bleed at all, are well pigmented and does not look like paint sitting on my lips. They have a lovely blending quality which I find extremely appealing and I am loving the mild vanilla scent.

The shade Pink Fantasy is a gorgeous shade of blue-based pink, veering slightly towards magenta, and is extremely wearable. It was the creamiest of the lot, and wore for 5 hours easily without me eating or drinking, and faded minimally. It faded unevenly after I had a meal, but left a stain, so I think it’s a good idea to re-apply after a meal. In fact, the same can be said about the rest, although both Tangerine Touch and Magenta Magic were longer in wear time. It did not dry out my lips at all but did transfer a bit.

Tangerine Touch is a lovely shade of brick orange, which settled on my lips like a dream and wore for 6-7 hours, with minimal eating and drinking copious amounts of water. It also had minimal transfer, and did not dry my lips out. If you notice, this one has medium coverage and the pigmentation is not very intense, so those who want to experiment with orange, but are too afraid to use it, can easily do so. This shade is quite flattering on lips, and looks very good when photographed (trust me, I have done my share).

Magenta Magic is a lovely plum-purple shade and very suited for the upcoming festive season. This one lasted the longest on my lips, about 8 hours, left a stain, but also dried my lips out slightly, so I would suggest using a lip balm underneath it. It had minimum transfer in the three. Also, I am quite happy with the intensity of the colour - looks really lovely, and I think this one can easily become a crowd favourite because virtually any one can pull this colour off.

I think personally, Lakme has a winner with this range, and the shades are priced at 650/- per pop, so quite pretty. There are other gorgeous shades from this range which are worth checking out - like Victorian Rose and Raving Red.

Chicken Masala: Leftover Wonders Part I

Chicken Masala with Leftovers

Chicken Masala is one of the ultimate leftover wonders made in my kitchen which I thought of when I was starting off with cooking. Well, to be fair, Ma would make chicken curry, which would be nice to eat with rice, but too bland for dinner for my father. As a result, I would be given the duty to make it nice. So, I would. Here in this recipe, you can use leftover curried chicken - the key is in the frying, and cooking in small batches. Make a batch for four people max - that's the key here.

how to use leftover chicken

Start by taking some of the leftover chicken and the curry gravy. I generally use 2-3 pieces of meat per person, but feel free to proportion it accordingly. Chop a small onion, and a couple of green chillies. Heat 2 tablespoons of ghee in a pan. Yes ghee. No, please stop thinking healthy here. If you REALLY cannot get the ghee, use refined vegetable oil or butter. Please don't use olive oil. That's an order. When the ghee is hot, add 2-3 dried red chillies in it. Let the red chilli fry for a few seconds, and then add the onion. Cook till the onions are golden brown.

Add 2 teaspoon garam masala or tandoori chicken masala (use the one from Everest, it works) and 1/2 teaspoon kashmiri chilli powder. Continue frying for another minute. Then add the pieces of chicken, minus the gravy. Also add the green chillies (optional) at this point. Stir and cook till the chicken is nicely coated in the masala, and slightly fried. Add a couple of ladleful of the gravy. Cook till the gravy is reduced and oil floats. Add a ladle more, and reduce again. Once reduced, add a couple of drops of kewra water (optional), and remove from heat. I have served this Chicken Masala with rice, rotis, parathas, but my personal favourite is to eat this with slices of perfectly toasted bread.
