Pancake Auditioning for Animal X Factor

Cats appear to possess a keen sense of hearing. They are particularly aware of and respond to the meows of other cats. After noticing a lack of meowsic videos appealing to cats, Pancake (our exotic shorthair kitty) was motivated to create one using a unique piano keyboard. We hope you and your kitties enjoy this special performance, composed and played on-the-fly by Pancake. His ears even dance a bit to one of the tunes during soundcheck.

Happy birthday to Jumbo Pillow and happy holidays to everyone. Jumbo turned one today (Dec. 15), and suited up as a penguin to celebrate not only his birthday but also the holiday season as well. And no celebration is complete without scrumptious food; the main dish in this case is a stereotypical favorite of both cat and penguin. Yes, it’s a fish (specifically cod). The cod was unseasoned, and steamed for ~30 minutes. Jumbo gave us his chomp of approval as he devoured a generous portion of fish.

Jumbo Pillow transformed into a vampire pumpkin this Halloween season, and feasted on freshly boiled chicken dipped with pure pumpkin.

Because of its high fiber content, Pumpkin is a wonderfully natural means of treating constipation and diarrhea in dogs, cats, as well as humans. For constipation, the fiber in pumpkin absorbs and keeps water inside the bowel to soften the stool. When there is diarrhea, the fiber in pumpkin absorbs the excess water to help firm up the stool.

September is Happy Cat's month (according to AVMA). This clip shows a happy moment of kitten Moo Moo. She was playing with her favorite kind of toy, something stretchy & light that she can hold on to & gives her a sense of triumph "winning" the tugging game.
She had a good time playing with the stretchy ribbon for about 10 minutes & fell asleep belly up, very adorable.

Spider Kitten

Kitten stage is full of energy, to the point of being wild. Our female persian kitten, Moo Moo, loves to climb. She climbs up cat tree posts, swings on curtains, and even scales up our legs sometimes (youch!) to sit on our laps. But her favorite is climbing up window screens and curtains. She does that almost everyday. Maybe this is one reason why most hotels don't allow cats to stay ;P

Is Jumbo actually a dog?

When Jumbo Pillow first arrived, he could barely jump, and had low exercise tolerance. After a short play session, Jumbo started to pant like a dog. Perhaps he did not get to play as much before. Now that he has been with us for several weeks, with plenty of playtime and interactions with other kitties, Jumbo is no longer panting and can easily jump around.

Jumbo Pillow Squeezes into a Teacup

Unlike human, cats enjoy small space & don't mind to be in "economy class."

Here are some pictures and a video of Jumbo in his favorite spot, a cute jumbo teacup. You can see how he managed to fit in it, & how his body fills the whole cup. He enjoys napping in this tight space.

Jumbo is definitely not a teacup kitten, he is 7 lbs now at 7 months, as heavy as other adult cats we have. He's a chubby big boy.

Speaking of teacup, some have asked us for advice of where to get kittens. Some breeders advertised kittens as teacup, a term that may sound attractive as it makes it sound like your kitten will remain small. But from our experience, it's a deceiving term because it could mean the kitten is the smallest of the litter & may be prone to serious health problems such as hernias that impede its growth to normal weight . Getting a teacup kitten could eventually cost you a lot in vet bills, not to mention an anxious heart.

P.S. Beware of NY Cats Cattery in Brooklyn where we got Marie, the teacup Himalayan. She had bilateral femoral hernia and required two major surgeries. The breeder refused to take responsibility. Also when we told him our vet suggested him not to breed the same parents again, he simply said that hernia had never happened in his cats. He continues to breed teacup kittens.

Jumbo Pillow Says Hi

Introducing our new Exotic Shorthair kitten, Jumbo Pillow, a potential mate for Mochi. He is named for his size despite being only 6 months old (he's already as heavy as the other adult cats in the family) and his plushy soft, white body. After Jumbo was isolated for some time and cleared by a vet, we introduced him first to Cooper, because Cooper is usually the friendliest furbaby. Jumbo is surprisingly vocal for an Exotic Shorthair, and can be seen excitedly talking in this encounter.

We found a very cool Hello Kitty jumbo pen that doubles as a fan. The fan lights up and changes color. It is made of foam and hence is safe to put close to the face. When we turned the fan on, the kitties became curious and started to tap the fan, even biting it later on.

Cats Enjoy Homemade Hot Dog

We made some hot dogs for our pets using beef, chicken, carrots and broccoli, with the help of a meat grinder and steamer. Commercial hot dogs may not be safe for pets because they could contain ingredients (like onion) that could potentially harm them. Both our cats and dogs enjoy the special treat very much and kept begging for more.

The hot dog costume was bought for the dogs, however, the cats look very cute in them too.

Mochi enjoying some sushi

Sushi is one of the most popular food nowadays. Cats can enjoy sushi too because the main ingredient is usually fish. We set aside a few pieces of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail for our kimono kitty Mochi to savor. Due to safety concerns, we heated up the sushi for some time. We also requested and made sure that there was no wasabi underneath the fish, because wasabi is strongly acidic and can cause stomach upsets in pets. We mainly fed Mochi the fish portion. She really enjoyed the sushi, especially the yellowtail.
