I have decided to compile a link which has all of the best halfling photos I have found online while scouring the net many have already been show on this blog at some point but I figured it would be a good idea to allow you can find them all in one place. Apologies for not referencing the artists or sources but since I have collected these over a number of years it would be difficult to remember them all....but many are from coolmini.com or from the links on the side panel.

If you know or have any images which should be included in here please let me know as I will keep updating this section which you can access from the link under the good halfling resources tab on the right hand side.

First Minis of 2012

Here are some photos of my 1st painted minis for 2012!!! These are the latest recruits to my Evil Halfling unit which is actually almost complete. If all goes to plan there should be photos of the finished unit up here in the next couple of weeks....it seems to be coming together nicely if I do say so myself. If you were wondering where the minis are from..... well the ghoul is an old Citadel Gollum figure, demon by Crunchwaffle (took alot of searching to source this oop mini) and the amazing Michael Jackson Zombie is from Heresy miniatures.....haha he cracks me up.

There is also a potentially exciting development going on in the background at Halfling House so stayed tuned as more news will be posted as the project becomes more developed.

Halfling Army List, Citadel Journal 36

Halfling Cavalry Conversions

If you are an avid halfling fan you will know that one thing that halflings suffer from is a distinct shortage of halfling cavalry miniatures available. I view this as a distinct shame as what could be better than a hard hitting force of portly warriors charging into battle on stumpy legged pony steeds??!!! So I decided to take matters into my own hands and whip up a couple of cheeky conversions inspired by the Bretonian Questing knights. I am also on the look out for more halfling sized ponies to expand the unit so if you have any floating around unused please drop me a line.

So first up we have the mounted halfling paladin general converted from the old citadel LOTR mounted Frodo figure. Usually I am reluctant to convert old skool minis but with these models I had doubles so I figured hey why not. There is a picture to show the difference from the original.....basically I added a spear, space marine talbard, empire feather to horses head and and empire knights of panther shield.

The next two are converted from the old C11 halflings mounted on grenadier pack horses. Alot of pending and cutting took place to make them fit flush and one leg had to be cut off and reattached. I think the overall outcome is alot better than I anticipated and I'm pretty stoked with them.

The conversion on the first one consists of an empire hammer, father and shield while on the second I replaced the pick head with an axe head while added a feather and space marine scroll to the horse. Hopefully I can source my ponies and expand the unit to around 8.

Halfling Mercenary List....Citadel Journal 10

Hi just a quick update.

I have finally tracked down copies of Citadel Journal 10 and 36 which have some house rules for fielding halflings mercenaries of which you might find useful. These rules might be a bit dated and definitely too cheesy for my liking but hey I have never played the game so what do I know right? Anyway I hope these lists are of interest.......I'll post the Halfling army list from Citadel Journal 36 next week.....some crazy stuff in there.

Also coming soon keep an eye out for my converted mounted halfling paladin......he's a keeper!!!

Well we have moved into 2012 and I hope you all have a great and safe Xmas and New Years. I hope the Miyans are wrong about 2012 as I am kinda enjoying life at the moment and would prefer a tad more than another year.

Anyway just a brief update this time round.....I have sourced some house rules for using Halflings in a Mordhiem setting.....click on the images below for larger pics. I have also sourced halfling army lists from Citadel Journal's 10 and 36 which I hope to scan and post up here in the near future.

Last Post of the Year, Merry Xmas Everyone!!!

Well I am gearing up and packing my bags to return back to New Zealand for Christmas with the family so I would like to take this time to wish eveyone a happy and safe Xmas and New year.

I have had a surge in posts towards the end of the year having regained a bit of drive on my halfling army project and hope to have many more updates more regularly next year with more unit releases and also some halfling product reviews and scale comparisons as well as any other cool halfling related stuff I can find.

Here is a small teaser for next year, pun intended the first six completed models of the Evil Halfling unit.....just waiting to be varnished and bases flocked. This unit marks the halfway point of my army with only 4-5 units left in the lead pile....ha only 4 or 5 depending on whether I can hold of buying more halflings. But I have vowed not to buy anymore until I have almost completed the army.......we will see how that goes.....

Halfling Witch Hunters

I have finally got round to getting pictures of my latest Halfling Unit ....Van Halfling's Halfling Witch Hunters. I tried to achieve the look of crazed religious "The Crucible" styled halflings and it is definitely my favourite unit yet.

Next in the painting que is a unit of Evil Undead halflings.......should be a couple of pictures up next week.

The unit consists mostly of C11 Hallfings lead by Heresy's Van Halfling Hero and a Ogre Executioner thrown in for good measure.

INTRODUCING THE TOP TEN HALFLINGS OF ALL TIME!!!

Well to keep things interesting around here I have decided to compile a list of what I view as the top 10 halfling sculpts of all time in regards to character and quality (ok I lie it's 11 but who's counting anyway?) so without further adue......

NUMBER 11: Halfling Pimp, Citadel C11 series, unreleased.

Although he may not be the greatest of sculpts this plump lil fellow slyly creeps into the top eleven as he was never released commercially and coupling this factor along with bags of fatty and slightly cocky character he becomes a much sought after and ultra rare gem for the avid halfling collector.

NUMBER 10: Puggy Baconbreath, Blood Bowl Halfling, Games Workshop.

This badass lil fellow despite his diminutive nature Oozes with toughness which in turn cements his place as one of the most iconic halflings of all time.

NUMBER 9: Tailsman Expansion Halfling, Games Workshop.

An unusual plastic halfling, this brave fellow represents all that is great about halflings.....fat, happy and heroic!! Another plump halfling icon right there.

NUMBER 8: Mirlton/EM4 Mounted Halfling Paladin (painted by Steve Dean)

A resulptof Mark Copplestone's original and now very rare halflings this model unfortunately is one of the few mounted halflings available and an ideal general for any halfling militia army. A lovely lil mini and one of my favourites.

NUMBER 7: Psycho Hobbit, Games Workshop Ltd Edition

This overly spikey warrior is sheer unadulterated lunacy of which only a madcap halfling could get away with. The rareness and sheer bizarreness of this model places him on the fringe of the top 5. I am not sure how many of these guys were produced but he is relatively rare and highly sought on e-bay.

NUMBER 6: Dicarus Darksword, Reaper

One of my personnel favourites and one of the few Reaper Halflings that scale up well with the old C11 Halflings. A very dark and smooth characterful model that would be at home as either a scout, thief of assassin in any deserving warband. Great model.

NUMBER 5: Unreleased Halfling, Games Workshop

There are two great variants of these fantastic sculpt and he would easily of taken the number one position if he was made available commercially, but unfortunately as he was never released he looses points due to the selflessness of those evil fat cats at GW. A peg leg, eye patch, armour and big weapons.....pure class.

NUMBER 4: Lil Pea, Marauder Halfling (painted by Witchhunter)

Ok so his name isn't Lil Pea but hey he is the size of a pea being one of the smallest halflings available, great detail, pose and extremely characterful making him easily one of my firm favourites. Pound for pound or gram for gram in his case one of the most characterful minis out there.

NUMBER THREE: Van Halfling, Heresy Miniatures (painted by Witch Hunter).

A simple but superb and very unique character laiden model ideal as a halfling hero for any situation. Having multiple arm options also adds to his versatility. Another all -time halfling great.

NUMBER TWO: Hallfing Chef, Games Workshop, (again painted by Witchunter)

Wot a fat angry hobbit wielding an over sized meat hatchet......WINNING!!! Who could ask for more really?? A fantastic timeless sculpt right there. An all time classic.

NUMBER ONE: Cecil the Ogre Slayer, Citadel C11 Halfling

Some of you may be surprised by this selection but I have chosen an old C11 solid base halfling called Cecil the Ogre Slayer at the greatest halfling sculpt of all time. A saucepan for a helmet, an over sized cape, an over sized shield, over sized armour and then topped off by an undersized dagger this wee fella is a must have for all you unstable halfling lovers out there. Can't you just picture him fighting against the odds to slay an hungry ogre in a last ditch attempt to avoid becoming part of his halfling broth? A deserving victor in my opinion which duly sums up the true halfling spirit and character. Love him!!!

Well I have become increasingly frustrated with the poor level on my photos and with a trip to Europe on the cards in a couple of weeks I took the opportunity to upgrade to a new photographic weapon....Olypmus 310 with 14mp and 10x optical zoom for the bargain price of only $160 AUD.

Anyway here are the latest results of my new toy.....a great improvement I think but still not 100% perfect. Also keep an eye out for my next unit on the cards which I am over half way through painting and is already set to be a cracker with loads of character........Halfling Witchhunters none the less!!!

Well to have a lil break from halflings I decided to paint up a small Gnome Mercenary unit. The idea behind these guys is they are ruthless gnome mercenaries who offer their services to the highest bidder......unfortunately for them the only race that would benefit from having gnomes in their army is poor defenseless rotund halflings who call on their services at times of need for a lil extra muscle.

I basically starting picking up the odd gnome on E-bay while on the hunt for old skool halflings and walla I soon had enough for a full unit.

Hmmm just skulled a glass of expired milk.....not nice.

Over half a year and no updates, well I have actually painted something!!! Two new halfling units in fact....Pec's Halfling Rangers (which I am very stoked with btw) and Lil Pea's Halfling Spearmen (which I felted the colour scheme sucked the big one and didn't work at all but what are you going to do?

Minis consist of a wide range from Citadel C11, Marauder (the tiniest and hardest halflings to paint, period), some Grenadier halfings, Bob Olley Essex Halflings and Harlequin Halflings (probably my favourite and smoothest to paint yet).

I'll try and get more individual pictures up soon........promise.

I'm not really good at this blogging thing am I? Moving home doesn't really help the situation ....and the surf has been really good too!!!

Well here is the latest update, the start of the next unit of halfing spearmen....old marauder figs and pretty much the smallest halfings out there and pretty damn hard to paint the lil details to be honest, I really struggled with these lil guys and ain't overly happy on how they turned out.

Oh and here is a mini I just finished, A Swiss Pig thief for a Swiss friend for xmas, slightly sloppy work but they won't know the difference, first attempt at yellow too.

BIG RED'S HALFLING ADVENTURER'S

I know, I know this update has been a long time coming well guess what....I actually have some more good excuses with me being stupid enough to take out a mortgage on my first home..... so as you would expect time has been of a premium of late.

So without further ad hue here is my next unit titled "Big Red's Halfling Adventurer's". Inspired slightly by Lord of the Rings and predominately sporting the old skool citadel LOTR range with a wizard and ogre thrown in for good measure. The idea being they are adventurering party on the search for treasure, adventure, pipe weed and beer with a wizard to act as a guide and the ogre as a baggage mule. I think they would be well suited as a Mordhiem war-band. I really like the ogre who I believe is one of the best ogres available on the market.

NEXT IN LINE
Next up on the painting bench is a halfling spearman unit with a mix of C11 Citadel, Harlequin, D & D Grenadier and the old Bob Olley Essex halflings.

UNPAINTED HALFLING'S
Well I certainly have my work cut out for me....have I bitten off more than I can chew??? Still to paint a drunken berserker halfling unit (yes I finally got hold of those illusive beer barrel carrying halflings), a halfling archer unit, a halfling witch/vampire hunter unit, a halfling militia unit, gnome and child allies and two more men-arms-units. Plus I am looking to get the Black Hat and Wiff Waff's halflings hopefully in the near future too. Defo lost the plot.

HALFLING HUNT!!! HELP NEEDED!!!

Well my hunt for all the C11 Halflings is coming along nicely as I have almost got my greasy lil hands on the majority of the collection including the old LOTR, Tailsman and pschyo hobbit ones and the early Marauder minis.

However, I am struggling to locate the final few and I am calling you for assistance. The images below detail most of the C11 series, the ones with red stars are already in my collection but the ones circled in yellow are still outstanding. These are the ones I need in particular the two carrying the beer barrels as they are essential to my drunk beserker halfling unit!!!

If you have any of these or know any I have missed please send me a message and we can arrange something.

Well here is a quick update of the first unit of the C11 Halflings I promised and I am well happy with how these guys came out, definitely my best painting to date by a long shot (pics turned out half decent too). Click on the image for a larger version.

Love these guys so much character and hope you like them as well. Next up is a 20 man unit of halfling adventurers which are shaping up nicely. IT'S BEEN A WHILE!!!

Sheeeeeesh I haven't updated this thing for a long time huh? 5 months so I'm due an update so here you go. Sometimes life gets away from you with my girlfriend moving back to Switzerland, changing jobs roles and my old computer blowing up all in a couple of months surely I can be forgiven for such a slack update record?

Anyway here goes, I have still had time to paint and have actually changed my direction a bit as I have fallen in the love with the amazing character of the old C11 Citadel halflings and have decided to make a "small battle force" having kept close tabs on e-bay I have around 70 of them so far but still on the hunt for more. If you have any you don't want anymore I am more than willing to take them off you hands.

Below are half of the first 20 man unit of halfling men-at-arms. I have gone for a more dirty medieval look moving away from the Empire moot look. To be honest I am stoked with how they have come out as I feel my painting has greatly improved on the skin tonnes although maybe I still need to thin the paints a bit.

I know it's been a while but hey I have been busy and so have you. Unfortunately back at work now but had a great time on the gold coast over xmas and back to Sydney in time for the amazing fireworks display!!! I hope you all had a great break.

I know I am long overdue an update but that doesn't mean I haven't been painting. Almost finished my first Halfling Bandit unit and after messing around with my camera settings I somehow fluked a couple of half decent photos for a change. Well it has helped me convince myself that my painting isn't quite as crap as my complete lack of photo skills have been making out.

Well I would just like to quickly wish everyone a merry xmas and all the best for the next year where ever you may be. It's been pretty hectic of late so hopefully things will start to slow down a lil over the holidays. Off to the Goldcoast of Australia for a week in two days so all is good!!! YAY ME!!!!

I couldn't resist this guy, he's an awesome sculpt by Victoria Lamb and I have absolutely no idea how he is going to fit into the scheme of the arm......well he is a halfling......vampire hunter maybe?

Farmer Maggot was scored cheap off e-bay primarily for the hounds and the guy on the right is a halfling but Eureka will probably be part of the Adventurer unit....yes.... oh no another unit.

Well here he is my first lil halfie from my bandit unit. A nice Vendel mini. Was a nice change doing neutral colours like black and green which are so much more forgiving instead of the reds and whites of my British Naps. I actually did four layers on the black and tried to make them a lil Ring Wrathie looking!!! Overall I'm pretty happy although there is still room for improvement so any tips are appreciated.

Halfling Fighters

The middle two are from Hasselfree miniatures (great customer service btw) and I especially love the Roman styled one probably one of the best detailed Halflies I have received so far. The far left is from Ral Partha which is also nicely detailed.

And Yet More Halfies

Three are from Ral Partha including the unusual leaf cloaked blowpipe sniper assassin guy thingy. I also plan to setup an archer unit.

VAMPIRE

This guy will form the basis for the Vampire/Undead unit, hes by Ral Partha also and looks very Vampirie or Vampirish if you ask me.

Houston We Have A Scale Problem

The lil guys are really flowing in now but I seemed to have hit a snag with the scaling which has thrown a slight spanner in my works.

As you can see there is a rather noticeable size difference even with the three of the four being from the same maker Reaper. The majority of the Reaper Halflings are the same size as the one on the far right but the two in the middle are much smaller for some reason? As a result I have had to rethink the makeup of each unit more around the size as well as the theme but it still seems to be working out ok thus far.

So here is the start of the Halfling Bandit unit, the small female Reaper Halfling (she is a beautiful sculpt too) is actually a perfect size match for the Vendel models and the other small Halfling doesn't really stand out much either. The detail on the Vendel models aren't as sharp but the character and poses seem to get them by ok.

The next unit is the Ranger Unit which is made up of the wonderful Reaper models, the detailing on these guys are superb and the crouching thief is very dynamic and dark.

Next is more Reaper for the Vampire Hunter Unit, this will be more of a ragtag bunch of individuals who fit together based on complimentary skills, there will be a couple of gnomes and dwarfs in here for good measure.

The detail on the Reaper guys are great and should be more noticeable once painted. Hopefully the remaining 20 odd Halflings arrive safe and fit in nicely with the scale of these.

Now which unit to paint first? I'm thinking the lil bandits?
