Hello! Is anybody there?

After almost 11 years Halfling House returns! Following an extended hiatus from the hobby I pulled some of my Halfling army out of storage causing an overload of nostalgia! I have decided to start a Mordhiem warband with a selection minis from my collection.

I have been busy researching various Mordheim halfling rule sets and carefully selecting models for the warband. I am deciding between a Halfling Witch Hunters warband and an adventure/ranger warband. Unfortunately as 1/2 of my army is in storage

I have a shortage of archers so have been searching for suitable miniatures on ebay. It looks like times have changed in the past 12 years and there is definitely a massive selection of different halflings to choose from and even a number of full army options like Mantic and Wargames Atlantic...wow! Those Wargames Atlantic halfling cavalry look amazing and probably the best mounted halflings available. However, I will stay true to the original OG citadel halfling sculpts and will only collect halflings compatible with these. The Old School Miniatures halflings fit the bill and look like a bargain at 65 pounds for almost 30 metal minis.

I have ordered 4 archers and when they arrive I have to remember how to paint. My eyesight has deteriorated massively in this timeframe so it is going to be interesting to see how my painting skills hold up!

Can anybody recommend a halfling ruleset and offer any sneaky halfling tactics?

Hone Heke, Empress Miniatures

As promised here as an update of my latest unit of Maori Warriors from Empress Miniatures starring the infamous Hone Heke. Hone Heke was a Māori rangatira (chief) and a war leader in Northern New Zealand. I am very happy with this paint job and felt that the cheq robe came out really well as did the facial tattoos which you cannot see very clearly in the photos.

Anyway let me know what you think? Lots more Maori to come over the next few weeks.

Some hisoircal background on Hone Heke:

Bay of Islands Ngā Puhi chief Hone Heke was an influential Māori voice in favour of the Treaty of Waitangi. However he later became a leading opponent of British rule in New Zealand.

Disillusioned by the failure of colonialism to bring his people economic prosperity and by the increasing control of the British government over Māori affairs, Heke ordered the cutting down of the flagpole at the British settlement Kororāreka (later renamed Russell). This was intended to show displeasure at British government, yet not threaten the Pākehā settlers. Over the following months, it was re-erected and cut down again three times. In 1845, this protest action resulted in war between British troops and northern Māori.

Warpy Halflings

Well an updated as promised, the next batch of Warploque Miniatures halflings, I have actually finally finished painting the full unit and I have to be honest that I really struggled with motivation with these and actually rushed through them with a very simple paint scheme.. While they ooze tones of character the actually sculpting of the miniatures is not overly smooth and clean and can prove difficult to pick out the detail on the models especially on the clothing....they almost feel like more of sculpting sketch than a smoothly finished model. While I love the overall feel and character of the models I can't help but think Alex has overly rushed to churn out as many models as possible and needs to slow down to focus on the quality of the finished sculpt as he clearly has the skills to do so. Despite this I feel that it is only onward and upwards for this young sculptor.

Stayed stunned to this page as more Maoris from the New Zealand wars are on the way soon!

Well after years of chasing this guy all over e-bay I have finally gotten hold of my own copy of the Citadel Unreleased Halfling pimp. There he is right there in my greasy lil hands. I thought I had got him for a decent price until the realisation of the full extent of the drop in the Aus dollar vs the pound kicked....but screw it the chase is officially over. I am not exactly sure what the full story is behind this mini or why it wasn't released so if anyone has any further info please feel free to let me know.

The first two were resin casts for internal GW staff and suspect the metal ones are potentially part of an unreleased halfling Mordhiem warband or perhaps cancel expansion of their halfling range. It anyone can shed any further light of these then feel free to do so.

White Knight New Halfling Releases

Long time no update, it's been a busy summer but rest assured that I have been busy painting away in the background, probably my most fruitful painting period in a long time and I have a whole bunch of halflings, British Napoleonics, Vikings, Maori warriors and even WW1 Maori Contingent to showcase over the next couple of months. Unfortunately although many of these minis are painted they are actually for entry in a online fourm painting contest and I cannot publish photos of them until it is over....soz

New Bloodbowl Halflings from Willy Miniatures

A quick update on some exciting new halflings releases; two Bloodbowl teams from Willy Miniatures and Tolstings from the Lead Adventure Forum.

Willy Miniatures have released two different Halfling Blood Bowl teams with the Imperial Halflings being very lovely sculpts indeed. What I like about the Imperial Halflings is not only the heavy armour and dynamic sculpts but also the fact that they would be easily converted into an armed unit.

My Citadel Halfling - C11 Solid Base Collection

Over the past 3-4 years I have been busy scouring e-bay to source as many Citadel halflings from around the globe as possible and have somehow managed to collect the entire Citadel and Warhammer halfling ranges (excluding Bloodbowl and unreleased halflings). Although this was not the cheapest exercise in the world it still pales in comparison to the insane prices people are paying for current GW products. Over the coming weeks I have decided to showcase photos of my painted collection inline with the Citadel catalogs. So stay tunned for my photos coming your way.

Halfling Onslaught: White Knight Miniatures

Well around three to fours years ago when I first begun collecting miniatures for my halfling army there was a severe shortage of available miniatures but now this no longer the case and they lil fat fellows seem to be coming out of the woodwork at a steady rate. Following quickly on the back of Warpy's kick starter
is White Knight's second wave of halfling releases. His latest release is more inline with the iconic Empire Themed Citadel halflings and scale up perfectly both size and style wise with them.

I really love how they are multipart miniatures which enables you to build a large sized regiments with a great deal of pose variety and very little repeats and I am really fond of the character shown in their faces. WK has designed a large range of Empire themed Dwarves, Goblins, Elves and now halflings for his own collection and love of the hobby than for material gain so feel free to get behind him and shoot him an order or two.

Warploque Miniatures ArcWorlde Kick Starter

Ngāpuhi Scouts, New Zealand Musket Wars

The following is the beginning of my next side project, a small Maori war band depicting the Ngāpuhi tribe from the New Zealand musket wars. On release of the new Empress Maori Wars miniatures being a New Zealander (Kiwi) myself I immediately fell in love with the miniatures and despite already have far too many unpainted miniatures I couldn't resist starting this side project. Ngāpuhi is a Māori iwi from my local Northland region of New Zealand, and centered in the Hokianga, the Bay of Islands and Whāngārei (my home town). I have used Back to Basixs Woodland bases to depict the thick rainforest like conditions of which the Maori often loved to battle utilizing gorilla warfare style tactics and I almost went cross-eyed painting the traditional patterns on the blanket ha.

By the early 19th century, the Bay of Islands had become a prominent shipping port in New Zealand. Through increased trade with Europeans, initiated by Ruatara, Ngāpuhi gained greater access to European goods, including muskets. Armed with European firearms, Ngāpuhi, led by Hongi Hika, launched a series of expansionist campaigns, with resounding victories across Northland and in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

2nd Coldstream Guards, Waterloo 1815, The Defence of Hougoumont

I have slowly been working on this unit over a number of years in the background of my halfling army and have finally finished the final base below. This unit has been slowly painted over 3-4 year period and you may notice a slight difference in the painting quality between the two earlier bases and the more recent ones (hopefully). The unit is a mix of Victrix, Perry and Foundry and may not be a 100% historically accurate but ah oh well ;-).

I have attempted to present the unit as a very battle-worn formation to depict the brutal defence of the chateau of Hougoumont on the outskirts of the Battle of Waterloo. This defence is considered one of the greatest achievements of the regiment as some declared that the success of the battle turned upon closing the gates at Hougoumont. The two battalions that defended Hougoumont suffered 500 dead and wounded out of strengths of 2,000 hence the high amount of casualties in my unit.

"This attack on the Hougoumont led to one of the most famous skirmishes in the Battle of Waterloo — Sous-Lieutenant Legros, wielding an axe, managed to break through the north gate. A desperate fight ensued between the invading French soldiers and the defending Guards. In a near-miraculous attack, Macdonell, a small party of officers and Corporal James Graham fought through the melee to shut the gate, trapping Legros and about 30 other soldiers of the 1st Legere inside. All of the French who entered, apart from a young drummer boy, were killed in a desperate hand-to-hand fight.^[1] The French attack in the immediate vicinity of the farm was repulsed by the arrival of the 2nd Coldstream Guards and 2/3rd Foot Guards. Fighting continued around Hougoumont all afternoon with its surroundings heavily invested with French light infantry and coordinated cavalry attacks sent against the troops behind Hougoumont". Legless, mounted halfling ranger

I figured it is about time I shared this lil fella Legless the mounted halfling ranger. He is the first completed model of my mounted halfling "The Knights of the Kitchen Table". I'm very happy with the out come of this guy being a conversion from an old Citadel model and pony.....more of this unit on the way soon.

69th Regiment of Foot

Taking a wee bit of a break from the halflings...... here is one of my recent bases for my British Naps for my latest 69th Regiment of Foot unit. The minis are all Victrix apart from the Perry Mounted Colonel and for some reason the photos have come out with a bit of a gloss sheen which does not exist in real life.

I'm pretty happy with the overall look of the unit and only have the command base left to complete it.

I'll post up more photos soon of my other recent Brit Nap work as well as photos of all the completed units and army photos.

Hot Off the Painting Bench

Well it's been a long time coming but here is my latest batch of 5 cheeky halflings fresh off the painting bench. Encase you haven't seen these models before and were wondering who made them they are actually scuplted by Warpy from Warploque Miniatures as part of his last kick starter (although I unfortunately was not supplied with the Wizard model, sad face).

I did a really, really rushed job on these with a simple colours scheme with the aim of churning out the unit as quickly as possible as I have far too many unpainted lil halflings staring me in the face with their cheeky fat innocent faces. Although in places the sculpts may seem to lack sharp details but I am sure you would agree that they more than make up for it in character. I especially like the elite halberds. Keep your eye on Warpy as he is set to release a new boxed fantasy game via kick starter rumoured to be made up of halflings versus orcs/trolls.

Also keep an eye on my blog as I have a ton of freshly painted naps and another secret project on the way all to be posted in the next few weeks. As per normal please feel free to comment, follow and share. :-)

Well I have a whole bunch of stuff to share for a while now but I am having camera issues and have been unable to get any decent shots but bare with me as there will be a bunch of Napoleonic, some halfling and a top secret new project that I am working on coming your way very soon. I swear it has taken around 5 months to complete this unit but I have finally got it out of the blocks and I am happy with the overall look and especially character that it is oozing ha!!! So 200 cheeky lil bastards down and only another 100 to go ....eeek!! I have completed all but one of my C11 halfling collection and plan to get photos of them all together soon. So keep your eyes peeled for the next unit on the way ..heavily converted halfling Calvary and then (hopefully) closely followed by my Warploque miniatures halflings, lots of Naps and a new top secret project I have started. I'm on a bit of painting buzz at the moment and seem to be churning them out now that winter is kicking in.

Kevin Adams Attack

There has been sad news circulating in the hobby in the last few days that the famous goblin sculptor Kevin Adams was attacked and beaten at knife point in his own home by three burglars and is currently in hospital recovering. The latest news is despite suffering shattered cheekbones and teeth he is recovering well and is in good spirits.

From Dags "Some 'good' news - I've just heard that Kev's out of hospital.

He was stabbed in the face and chest and they took a knuckle duster to his face and broke his cheek bone.

But he will need an op to add some plates.

His nose was broken in a number of places but his eyes and hands are fine which means that he'll, hopefully, be back to work soonish."

Apparently they will be taking donations and will also be running a raffle consisting of tons of Kevin's sculpts to raise money. Encase you have been living under a rock and didn't know who Kevin is he is known as the Goblinmaster and has sculpted many of great goblin lines for Games Workshop, Foundry, White Knight and even the Halfling House mini pictured below.

We wish Kevin a speedy recovery and hope to see him pushing putty again soon!!
