If 50% of the oils are omega3s, most sources suggest 1000mg per day for kids and 2000mg per day for adults. If you have never taken this type of supplement, start out with the lower dose and see how it affects you.

The oils have something of a laxative effect in some people. Your grandparents probably took cod liver oil to relieve constipation. No one should take cod liver oil, today, because the Atlantic cod is loaded with impurities and liver oils contain too much vitamin A. Vitamin A can be toxic at high doses.

The primary benefit of supplementation has to do with the lack of fatty-fish in the average person's diet. We are advised not to eat too much of a single species over the course of a month, because of mercury and PCB contamination. But, if we don't eat some fish every day, we don't get any DHA.

A good fish oil dosage makes up for that shortcoming in the diet. DHA is an omega3 fatty acid that is abundant in the brain and the retina of the eye. Studies indicate that DHA supplementation is beneficial for depression and ADHD. It is hoped that DHA supplementation may reduce the risk of a degenerative eye disease called age-related macular degeneration.

There are many other benefits to supplementation, as well. In one recent study, researchers concluded that 1000mg per day for three months increases the skin's firmness.

If you are sure to choose a high quality supplement that provides at least 500mg of omega3s per day, a 1000mg fish oil dosage might make you look younger and feel younger, too.

Get your Free 19 Page Guide and discover what we consider

Fish Oil Benefits - How You Can Live Healthy

The primary fish oil benefits are to the brain and heart, although there is some benefit to every cell of the body, because it may reduce the risk of cancer. Unlike other types of fat, fish oil has antioxidant activity. Antioxidants fight free radicals and free radicals play a role in cancer. So does inflammation. That's another issue addressed by omega3 fatty acids.

The many fish oil benefits are due to it the omega3 fatty acids found in fatty fishes. Most of the fats in our diet are saturated. Omega3s are polyunsaturated fatty acids or PUFAs. PUFAs promote the production of anti-inflammatory eicosanoids, while other types of fat promote the production of inflammatory cytokines. That's how omega3s fight inflammation.

The benefit to the heart is a reduced risk of atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries. The supplements also lower cholesterol levels. High cholesterol is a risk factor for heart disease and other age-related diseases.

Of course, not all supplements are the same. Some have more anti-inflammatory activity than others. A recent study showed that oils from the hoki fish have particularly high anti-inflammatory activity, more than twice that of tuna and other oils.

Some supplements may be contaminated with mercury and PCBs. The best choice is to shop online and be sure that the manufacturer's website posts the certificate of analysis, which will list mercury and PCB content. It should say "none detected".

Companies are not required to provide a certificate of analysis, but the better ones do. If you cannot verify purity, don't buy it. A contaminated supplement is bad for your health.

Other fish oil benefits include improved skin, hair, nails and mood. It's one of the best things that you can do for your health, as long as it's pure.

Get your Free 19 Page Guide and discover what we consider the Best Fish Oil Supplements.

Freddie Logan is a health enthusiast and has a passion for natural ways to improve your health. The major benefits are, your heart, these supplements help to improve your cardiovascular system. Taking a supplement regularly helps to prevent sudden cardiac arrest in otherwise healthy young men.

Your brain benefits greatly too. The DHA found in fish oil supplements is used constantly to rebuild your brain cells. If this DHA ever gets low you are bound to suffer bouts of depression and other emotional disorders. DHA helps to keep you in good mental health.

Omega 3 fish oil is a natural anti-inflammatory. This helps to relieve the pain and swelling associated with arthritis and other problems that need an anti-inflammatory.

The US National Institute of Health recently published a recommended daily intake of Omega 3 fatty acids. They recommend a daily dose of 650 mg of DHA and EPA and a daily dose of 2.2grams per day of ALA.

You can obtain Omega 3 ALA from plant sources such as flaxseed oil and leafy greens like purslane, plus you need to include nuts in this diet. However ALA must be converted over to DHA to benefit us and this conversion does not always take place efficiently if you are elderly or in poor health.

The best way to obtain your daily allowance of Omega 3s is to take fish oil supplements. The DHA and EPA fatty acids are the most potent of the fatty acids. You need to ensure that when you buy these supplements that the DHA is the dominant fatty acid as EPA is often put out as the sole fatty acid. Some companies do this because EPA is cheaper to produce.

Try and buy fish oil that is sourced from the deep, cold pristine waters of the Southern Ocean off the coast of New Zealand, or from Alaska or Norway. Those have the cleanest waters in the world. And the fish are high in Omega 3 DHA and EPA fatty acids.

Another thing you must make sure of is that the oil has been purified by a process called molecular distillation to remove the contaminants such as lead, mercury and the PCBs etc, this process removes the impurities by weight. This will give you what is sometimes referred to as pharmaceutical grade fish oil. The purest oil you can buy.

To summarize this, you need to buy fish oil supplements that have been through a process called molecular distillation. And you need to ensure the oil is high in DHA and EPA fatty acids.

Aware of the Fish Oil Side Effects and Their Solutions?

Of late, more and more people have come to know about the benefits of fish oil on their overall health. But, there are very few people who are curious to know about the side effects of fish oil. All the hype about the benefits of the fish oil and fish oil supplements have build up a favorable notion about the dietary supplements and hence, a few people discuss about its adverse effect on our health.

One of the reasons that repel most people from taking fish oil is its fishy smell. However, looking at the numerous benefits of the omega-3 fatty acids that are present in fish oil, the odor can be ignored. Alternatively, there are many pharmaceutical companies manufacturing fish oil supplements that lack the fishy odor. Apart from the odor, there are some serious side effects of this beneficial dietary supplement. Let’s discuss about the negative effects of fish oil.

Effect of Pollution on Fish

The most striking feature of fish oil is the affect of pollution on the water and fish as well. The increase in the mercury level and other problems related to pollution has intoxicated the fish. Consumption of such fish is a sure-fire way to experience the side effects of fish oil. The Environmental Defense Network has warned against intake of some kinds of fish more than once or twice in a week.

Solution: There is an effective alternative to direct intake of fish oil- fish oil supplements. The manufacturing companies of fish oil capsules take necessary steps to purify the fish and fish oil to diminish the noxious elements. Health experts are of the view that regular intake of fish oil supplements are the best way to get all the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids and do away with the side effects of fish oil.

Confusion about the Dosage of Fish Oil

Most people think that as fish oil are beneficial for health and should be consumed much to get more benefits. But the fact is there is a limit to the dosage of fish oil intake. It is generally advised not to take more than 200 gm of fish oil in a week in a normal health condition. When the Omega-3 fatty acids are recommended for a specific health requirement, there are different doses for different diseases. If you are taking the fish directly to get that benefit, it is nearly impossible to know the exact amount that you are taking in your diet. In some cases, taking fish oil more than the required amount can cause different fish oil side effects.

Solution: There is a simple solution to this problem- fish oil supplements. Apart from being purified, the fish oil capsules are prepared with specific amount of Omega-3 fatty acids and other required ingredients. (We'll get to #1 in importance soon.)

Studies are published almost daily as the scientific community discovers more and more of the many extraordinary omega 3 fish oil benefits.

If you haven't already been swept up in the net yet, here are 7 proven omega 3 benefits you should know about.

1. Less Pain and Inflammation. Omega 3 fatty acids, particularly EPA, have a very positive effect on your inflammatory response. Through several mechanisms, they regulate your body's inflammation cycle, which prevents and relieves painful conditions like arthritis, prostatitis, cystitis and anything else ending in "itis."

2. Cardiovascular Health. Omega 3 fatty acids have also been proven to work wonders for your heart and the miles and miles of arteries and veins that make up your cardiovascular system. They help to lower cholesterol, tryglicerides, LDLs and blood pressure, while at the same time increasing good HDL cholesterol. This adds years to your life expectancy.

3. Protection from Stroke and Heart Attack. When plaque builds up on arterial walls and then breaks loose, it causes what's known as a thrombosis, which is a fancy way of saying clot. If a clot gets stuck in the brain, it causes a stroke and when it plugs an artery, it causes a heart attack. Research shows omega 3 fatty acids break up clots before they can cause any damage.

4. Better Brain Function and Higher Intelligence. Pregnant and nursing mothers can have a great impact on the intelligence and happiness of their babies by supplementing with fish oil. For adults, omega 3 improves memory, recall, reasoning and focus. You'll swear you're getting younger and smarter.

5. Less Depression and Psychosis. Making you smarter is not all omega 3 does for your brain. Psychiatry department researchers at the University of Sheffield, along with many other research studies, found that omega 3 fish oil supplements "alleviate" the symptoms of depression, bipolar and psychosis (Journal of Affective Disorder Vol. 48(2-3);149-55).

6. Lower Incidence of Childhood Disorders. Just to show how fish oil fatty acids leave nobody out, studies show that children (and adults) with ADD and ADHD experience a greatly improved quality of life. And those with dyslexia, dyspraxia and compulsive disorders have gotten a new lease on life thanks to omega 3 oils.

7. Reduction of Breast, Colon and Prostate Cancer. And finally, omega 3 fish oil has been shown to help prevent three of the most common forms of cancer – breast, colon and prostate. Science tells us that omega 3s accomplish this in three ways. They stop the alteration from a normal healthy cell to a cancerous mass, inhibiting unwanted cellular growth and causing apoptosis, or cellular death, of cancer cells.

So you can see why knowing these benefits is the second most important thing you can do for your health. Can you guess what number one is?

That's right! Now it's time to put your knowledge to work. Eat more cold water oily fish and start taking good quality pure omega 3 fish oil supplements regularly.

Can Fish Oil Fill in My Wrinkles?

Topically applied fish oil or essential oils have long time been studied in there relationship to wrinkles. It has been found that fish oils had some potential long term benefits with there work with wrinkles, but essential oils are just a means of conveying a fragrance or "essence" from the plant from which they originate. It is this misconception that the fragrances are oil-based, when in fact they are a water-based added fragrance.

Natural fragrances are as likely to cause allergic reactions in those people who are prone to such reactions, as synthetic or chemical-based fragrances. As we age, our skin becomes more sensitive so it becomes necessary that we shop for products that are fragrance-free. Fish oil and its' effect on wrinkles is still in the preliminary testing phase with conclusive results still being out of reach, but getting closer. The final judgment, being just around the corner shows favorable results thus far for a highly effective wrinkle treatment.

Multiple studies have shown and confirmed that a protein called "Functional Keratin" , which is an extract from sheep's wool, has been effective. Taking Omega-3 fish oils as a dietary supplement has been shown to have many health benefits including improvements in the skin, but nobody knows if they will do anything at all when applied directly to the skin. If you're looking for a cream to treat wrinkles will you choose a product with fish oil, which may have some benefit, or one with Functional Keratin which has been proven to?

Functional Keratin was discovered quite recently by a company in New Zealand which produces a line of all natural skincare products. This company is earning a reputation for being innovators in the skincare field, particularly when it comes to the treatment and reduction of wrinkles. "Pressing" wool allows the lanolin to be extracted, which is then used to treat any number of skin conditions. Lanolin has high concentrations of basic proteins and fatty acids, including keratin proteins. It has only been recently that researchers have been able to extract the keratin, which is very similar to human keratin found in our skin.

When applying emulsified protein to the skin of volunteer subjects, it was found that new skin cells started to reproduce resulting in the healing of old scars and fairly new wounds. In addition, skin became firmer and growth of collagen fibers started to take place.

The latest, premium products on the market don't make claims in regards to essential oils and wrinkles, but they will contain Functional Keratin. Thus, if you increase your daily intake of fish oil, you might see a decrease in wrinkles. Using essential oils will not affect wrinkles in the slightest. However, use a cream with Functional Keratin and there will be a definite decrease in wrinkles, and an improvement in appearance.

Gerald Markowitz is a health advocate who has been researching natural skin care products

Is Fish Oil Supplement Advantageous?

In the field of medicine, advances are happening almost instantly. Because diseases are rampant across the globe, researches are being done to find cures and alternative treatments for these conditions. One popular option that has shown promise against many types of diseases is fish oil and fish oil supplements. There are still many studies done today to answer the question: is fish oil supplement advantageous?

Fish oil supplements come from fish sources such as herring, albacore tuna, salmon, mackerel, and sardines. These are often sold in oil form, or in capsulated forms which are meant to be taken as dietary supplements. Fish oil is said to be beneficial because it contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are needed by the body, since humans cannot synthesize their own. Two of the most notable and most widely studied forms of omega-3 fatty acids are eicosapentenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexenoic acid (DHA). The question now is, how is fish oil supplement advantageous? Below are some diseases that researches have found to be treatable and preventable thanks to fish oil supplements.

Arthritis. In year 2000, the Journal of Rheumatology found that EPA and DHA levels are very low in patients with arthritis. Fish oil supplements help reduce the degradation of the cartilage in the joints, so less pain is felt. Aside from that, other journals published in the same year, have shown how fish oil can help relieve the stiffness in people with join inflammation.

Mental conditions. Until the present, the supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids in patients with depression and ADHD or ADD is being examined. There have been accounts that attribute mental degradation due to low levels of essential fatty acids like omega-3. It is ideal to consult a doctor for the recommended doses of fish oil supplements that can be administered on a daily basis.

Cancers. From 2000 to 2003, journals have already published research on how fish oil supplements and thee omega-3 fatty acids in them can help in the production of proteins that fight off tumors in the body. Also, it has been established that the inclusion of DHA and EPA in the diet can make a patient more receptive to the effectiveness of chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Heart disease. Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil and fish oil supplements have long been applauded for their ability to improve blood flow and provide overall protection for the heart. In fact, the American Heart Association recommends taking fish oil capsules, or even having at least two servings of fish per week. Examples of fish are sardines, halibut, salmon, and tuna.

Is fish oil supplement advantageous? As an answer to that question, yes it is. But before making drastic changes in the diet, or before purchasing fish oil supplements, it is best to seek the advice of a medical practitioner on this matter. The public is reminded that there are recommended doses of fish oil that can be taken on a daily basis, and these doses depend on the current health state of the individual.

Author: Angie Ng

Fish Oil May Help you Burn Fat...but not That Much Fat!

The biologically active ingredients that seem to make fatty fish so beneficial are are the long chain omega-3 (n-3) fatty acids, EPA and DHA. At least a half a dozen human studies and more than two dozen animal studies have been completed in the last 10 years which suggest that these omega-3 fatty acids found in fish may help you lose more fat. However, the fat loss benefit is not as much as some people want you to believe…

The results of two new studies on fish oil and fat loss were just released earlier this year. In one study published by the International Journal of Obesity, researchers from Reykjavik Iceland tested the effects of fish or fish oil consumption equivalent to 1.5 grams of combined EPA/DHA on body weight and body composition as part of a calorie restricted diet. (1)

The subjects were 324 young overweight men and women who followed one of four experimental protocols for 8 weeks:

(1) sunflower oil capsules (control)
(2) lean fish
(3) fatty fish (salmon)
(4) fish oil capsules

The researchers reported the following results:

“In young, overweight men, the inclusion of either lean or fatty fish, or fish oil as part of a hypoenergetic diet resulted in 1 kilogram more weight loss after 4 weeks than a similar diet without seafood or supplement of marine origin. The addition of seafood to a nutritionally balanced energy-restricted diet may boost weight loss.”

It should be noted that the study was supported by the Seafood Plus organization and there were some limitations in the design that could have influenced the subject’s compliance.

The second study, conducted at the University of South Australia and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2) investigated the effect of combining fish oil supplements with regular aerobic exercise.

In a 12-week, placebo-controlled study, the subjects were divided into four groups:

(1) sunflower oil
(2) sunflower oil plus exercise
(3) fish oil
(4) fish oil plus exercise.

The fish oil groups were given 6 grams of high DHA fish oil per day, which contained a total of 1.9 grams of long chain omega-3 fatty acids. The exercising groups performed aerobic exercise three days per week for 45 minutes.

As you might expect, the fish oil plus exercise group came out with the best results:

* minus 1.2% body fat (compared to no decrease in the other groups)
* minus 2 kilograms/4.4 lbs (compared to no decrease in the non exercise group).

Unfortunately, there was a limitation in this study as well: The food intake of the subjects was self reported, which is known to be notoriously inaccurate.

There have been several other human studies on fish oil and fat loss in the last ten years or so and the majority of the findings have been positive. The research is compelling and there have been numerous, and very plausible mechanisms of action proposed.

However, more and more often, I am hearing people in the health, fitness and nutrition industries making some pretty bold and I daresay, premature and outrageous claims about what fish oil can do for fat loss; claims which are not supported by the research.

The studies on fish oil and fat loss are encouraging, but the vast majority of research has been on animals (rats, mice and hamsters) and there have been limitations in nearly all the human studies so far, including:

Small sample sizes, short study durations, statistically insignificant results, lack of randomization, no control groups, imprecise body composition testing, measurement errors, self-reporting of food intake, low compliance control and fish industry or supplement industry-sponsored bias.

Even if you take the results of the existing research at face value, the fat loss really isn’t all that impressive - an extra pound here, an extra kilo there.

Many of the research results barely reach statistical significance, and you even have to wonder if these small improvements in fat loss are simply correcting omega-3 deficiency or fixing omega-3 and omega-6 imbalance… therefore, will they continue over a longer time period or is this a one time improvement?

One of the earlier studies showed the same kind of measurable but modest results: The fish oil group that took 1.8 grams of combined EPA/DHA daily lost 2 pounds and the non fish oil group lost only 0.7 pounds after 3 weeks (3).

Of course, you’ll probably take all the fat loss help that you can get, and since there are already enough good reasons to eat fatty fish for cardiovascular disease prevention and other health benefits, it’s really a no brainer to eat fish such as salmon, trout, mackerel or sardines at least twice a week. (By the way, with the exception of King Mackerel, these are species which have not been reported as having problems with mercury contamination).

Alternately, you can use a fish oil supplement to get the equivalent in omega-3 fatty acids as found in the fish. Non fish eaters or vegetarians can use flaxseed oil, a plant-based source of Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA) which converts in the body to EPA and DHA (the efficiency and amount of conversion has been a subject of controversy, however).

Based on the three studies cited above, it looks like 1.5 to 2.0 grams per day of combined DHA/EPA is the right dose when fat loss is the goal (although some suggest you should consider body weight when choosing the dosage, i.e., 1 gram total fish oil for each 20 lbs body weight, so a big guy might go with as much as 3.0 grams)

Most fish oil capsules come in 1,000 mg size at a 30% concentration, so if you took five 1000mg capsules a day, that would give you 1.5 grams of EPA/DHA; about the same as you’d get in 3 ounces (85 g) of salmon.

Note: other studies on fish oil and fat loss tested 3.0 to 4.0 g/day of EPA/DHA, but the American Heart Association has warned against taking more than 3 g EPA/DHA per day without a physicians supervision, as there may be potential contraindications and side effects such as increased bleeding time. Based on the research, more fish oil will NOT burn more fat, so be wary of the “mega dose gurus.”

Another tip: Don’t fall for the “premium price” necessarily means better quality party line. Quality and purity are important, but you can get molecularly-distilled, mercury, PCB, Dioxin, Organochlorine-free, 3rd party tested-to-meet-label-claims fish oil for less than ten bucks per bottle of 400 (one gram) capsules… yet I have seen “fish oil gurus” selling the exact same thing for $50 to $60 claiming that everyone else’s products are “contaminated” and “inferior” in quality. If that’s true, then I’d like to see those products submitted to consumer lab for voluntary 3rd party independent analysis and head to head comparison on purity AND cost effectiveness. If they come out superior and cost effective, I will gladly publicize the results myself.

The bottom line is it looks like fish oil may be a legitimate help to your fat loss efforts, especially when combined with exercise, as there may be an important synergy there. However, the idea that fish oil is some kind of miracle fat burner is just not true.

Like Mulder on the X-files, “I want to believe”… but we need much, much more research before we can say for certain exactly how much body composition improvement you can really expect from eating fatty fish or taking fish oil supplements.

Why Fish Oil Helps Reduce Hair Loss

Hair loss, hair thinning, and baldness are different degrees of the same problem. It is a problem that has vexed men and women for centuries. Nowadays, there are ointments, pills, hair implants, wigs, and countless other supplements, medications and treatments for hair loss. Fish oil with its Omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin A helps get hair and scalp healthy from the inside out.

A nutritionist at NYU Medical Center, Samantha Heller, MS. RD, says that many patients that she sees have a sub-clinical lack of omega 3 fatty acids and recommends supplementing the diet with fish oil. Fish oil supplements, she cautions, should be taken as directed on the bottle. Exceeding recommended dosages without the supervision of a physician or naturopath could be dangerous.

The danger comes not so much from the omega-3 fatty acids but from the vitamin A. It is almost impossible to overdose on Omega-3 fatty acids when eating plants and nuts such as flaxseed and walnuts. Overdoses are more likely to occur when using supplements. Cod liver oil for example, is high in vitamin A, so it is particularly important to adhere to recommended dosages. Taken at extreme levels, vitamin A can be toxic.

It is important to know that fish oil supplements vary in the fish sources of the oil, so check the label. Many fish oil supplements are high in the DHA and EPA omega fatty acids and low in vitamin A. Also check the vitamin A content of any other supplements taken at the same time.

Fish oil as a treatment for hair loss can be extremely safe if dosages are not exceeded. Fish oil treats the a hair and scalp from the inside and out, and gives the body additional benefits that strengthen the immune system, builds healthy bones and rejuvenates skin.

The brutal truth about the real causes of hair loss.

Does Fish Oil For Children Do Any Good?

Some parents are concerned about how many drugs and supplements they are being told to give their children. They have to wonder if fish oil for children does any good. After all, even though fish oil for children is marketed as being something that your child has to have and something that can help your child stay healthy and do better in school, parents can't really be sure that fish oil for children is doing any real good for their children. Or can they?

Studies done in the past few years suggest that the benefits of fish oil for children can be even greater than the benefits of fish oil for adults. Fish oil for children can help your child's brain develop faster and stronger and can help your child focus more and pay attention more in school. In fact, fish oil for children was the focus of a major medical study done in Europe that found that fish oil for children might have a significant impact on children that suffer from ADD or ADHD.

In the study kids were given a low to medium dose of fish oil in six pills spread out over the course of the day. The parents of the children that were given the fish oil capsules instead of the placebo capsules reported that over the course of a few months their children's behavior dramatically improved. Kids who previously were virtually uncontrollable were less restless, more focused, and were having less behavioral problems and fewer problems in school. Doctors found that the kids who were given fish oil for children did dramatically better on diagnostic tests then kids who weren't taking the fish oil. Some of the children that previously had been diagnosed with moderate to severe ADD or ADHD were able to focus their attention 30% better after taking the fish oil supplements for a period of months.

Parents of children with ADD and ADHD have had concerns for a long time about the side effects of drugs like Ritalin that are used to control ADD and ADHD and so many parents want to know if giving their kids fish oil can help manage the symptoms of their ADD or ADHD without having to take drugs that can have serious side effects. Some of the side effects of Ritalin and similar drugs have even been called the cause of death for some children.

So if you have a child that has ADD or ADHD and you want to try giving your child fish oil to see if taking fish oil for kids can help your child control his or her ADD or ADHD you should talk to your doctor about the benefits of fish oil for kids before giving your children fish oil. There are no side effects from giving your kids fish oil supplements but if your child is on medication you should ask your doctor first if you can give your child fish oil because any over the counter supplement might interfere with the effectiveness of a prescription medicine.

You can get a Free bottle of Fish Oil at http://www.Fishoil-pro.com

Zenni Optical

Search the cheap and stylish frame? The reason for this is it contains a good combination of both Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. They are necessary for a strong immune system that will enable the body to fight against many diseases. There are other healthy benefits to be had from olive oil.

Olive oil is widely used in the Mediterranean diet. It is easily digested and good for people with sensitive stomachs and has no adverse effects. Olive oil Omega 3 can be used for cooking as well. It adds flavor and texture to foods.

The benefits of olive oil include the following: the prevention of cardiac disease, the lowering of blood pressure, lowering triglycerides, lowering bad cholesterol levels. It has been said to prevent colon cancer. It also helps to manage the formation of kidney and gallstones.

A variety of olive oils are available in most grocery stores. They include extra virgin, virgin, pure, and extra light oils. Extra virgin and virgin olive oils are the most beneficial since they contain the natural taste and freshness of the olive fruit.

Olive oil is excellent when used as a salad dressing as well as for use in other dishes. It can be taken in its raw form as well. Care should be taken with any plant oil including olive oil not to take too much of it at once because a quick drop in blood pressure could result causing health problems.

People with high blood pressure and high cholesterol can benefit from its use. Olive oil Omega 3 also can help with weight loss. Taking olive oil in some form on a regular basis can be a wonderful asset to a healthy diet.

High quality products are available on the market and on the Internet. Omega 3 supplements that are from plant sources such as olive and flaxseed oils to purified fish oils from salmon, herring, mackerel, and sardines to name a few. Many manufacturers prefer to use the oil of the New Zealand Hoki fish. Since it swims in near pure water they contain only minimal amounts of any impurity or toxin.

Hemp oil, coconut oil, peanut oil and corn oil are not recommended for those with high cholesterol. This is because they contain saturated fats that can raise cholesterol and blood pressure. Olive oil Omega 3 is a good addition to a healthy diet.

Be sure to check out our Omega 3 Dha Esters, it is the natural supplement we use and recommend to friends and family, and have done for over 3 years.

Diet For Gout And Fish Oil

What is gout and is there a natural cure? Can a specific diet for gout make much difference? And how do gout and fish oil fit together into the natural solution?

New research from Harvard, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, shows that the right diet for gout can, at the very least, dramatically reduce painful symptoms of inflammation and swelling associated with bouts of gout.

And, at the very best, it can prevent and possibly even reverse the disease.

What is Gout?

The causes of gout are now well known. The disease results from a buildup of excessive uric acid (hyperuricemia) in the body. Uric acid is a waste product formed by the breakdown of purines, which are natural substances found in certain foods.

A tendency towards gout can be hereditary or it can begin as the result of a joint injury, surgery, chemotherapy or even from losing weight on a crash diet.

However, the main cause is overindulgence in rich food and alcohol.

Certain foods, mainly fatty red meats, create excess uric acid that causes gout. Alcohol contributes to the build up of uric acid by interfering with its elimination from the body.

If no lifestyle changes are made, gout will become more frequent, severe or even crippling. However, this can be prevented if the initial attack is taken as a warning signal.

Diet for Gout

Natural prevention and reduction of painful inflammation and swelling associated with gout is possible. Extra pounds put stress on the joints, as well as increasing the risk of hyperuricemia, so it's important to gradually reach and to maintain a healthy weight.

The latest research conducted by the Harvard Medical School and published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that gout risk increased by 21% with each serving of red meat per day and decreased by 50% with two daily servings of low-fat dairy.

Therefore, it's best to dramatically decrease red meat and to increase low-fat dairy.

And since alcohol is also often the cause of gout flare-ups, it should be avoided as much as possible or, even better, eliminated. Instead, to help flush uric acid out of the body, people prone to gout should drink at least 10 to 12 glasses of pure clean water a day.

Dr. Hyon Choi, the lead investigator of the Harvard study, which is the latest, most exhaustive and definitive research on gout, recommends daily supplementation with high quality, full-spectrum omega 3 fish oil fatty acids with EPA, DPA and DHA.

Gout and Fish Oil

Omega 3 fish oil has extremely effective natural anti-inflammatory properties that do not cause the harmful side effects that are associated with anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Ibuprofen, Advil and Motrin and COX-2 inhibitors like Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra.

Good quality fish oil provides natural relief for gout as well as migraines, psoriasis, depression, heart disease, asthma, prostatitis and many other painful conditions.

For best results with gout, arthritis and all forms of painful inflammation, fish oil capsules are highly recommend. This quality fish oil supplement is nature's most potent anti-inflammatory, with a long safe history of helping millions of people around the world.

Pharmaceutical - Grade Fish Oil In High Doses

Fish Oil may be more important to your health and mental creativity than you realize, especially high doses of Fish Oil. To be able to take very high doses of Fish Oil you must choose a Fish Oil brand that is free of impurities and toxins. Do not buy your Fish Oil from health food stores or any type of store and take high doses. It most likely would make you ill. If you refuse to buy the best of Fish Oil and still buy what you find in department stores and health food stores, then please do take the low doses. In a low dose, however, you most likely will not reap the greater benefits that taking high doses of Fish Oil can give you. The choice is yours.

There is a very pure, without toxins, Fish Oil you can purchase. This would be a pharmaceutical-grade Fish Oil that has only recently become available. This is one reason why you have not heard about the miracle of high-dose Fish Oil. High dose Fish Oil can bring about dramatic results especially when taken along with meals that balance out your fats, proteins and carbohydrates to control insulin levels. In time the need for supplementation with high-dose Fish Oil will be recognized. The Fish Oil I am talking about in this article is available only through Dr. Barry Sears ZoneNet Distributors.

High-dose Fish Oil will change the views of medicine and especially the treatment and prevention of chronic disease, particularly neurological disorders in the very near future. High-dose fish oil has the power to take your mind to a much higher state while at the same time addressing our health concerns as we grow older. With high-dose Fish Oil we have an opportunity to reverse heart disease, cancer, diabetes, pain, dementia and even aging itself. You will be able to control your emotions and give your mind the opportunity to express the human creativity to its fullest. But now once again, I warn you, DO NOT TAKE HIGH-DOSES OF FISH OIL YOU FIND ON THE SHELVES AT WAL-MART, K-MART, OR ANY HEALTH FOOD STORE. The kind of Fish Oil you can take high doses of and reap the benefits I just mentioned is only available through a distributor.

Exercise regularly, balance out your fats, proteins and carbohydrates and take high doses of pharmaceutical-grade fish oil as a prescription for a longer, healthier and more creative life. Also, buy yourself a Shih Tzu.

By Connie Limon

7 Fish Oil Benefits Proven by Research

Research studies show fish oil benefits are down right amazing.
And knowing this is the second most important thing you can do for your health.

By Michael Byrd

Is Your Fish Oil Giving You Mercury Poisoning?

The nutrient you need most in your diet is also the nutrient that could be contaminated!

I'm talking about omega-3 fatsand alarming new research suggests that the fish in which you find these healthy fats could be brimming with mercury.

Omega-3 fats may help treat depression, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, dementia, autism, ADHD, inflammation, and autoimmune diseases. You'll find omega-3s in fish. But that's not all that's lurking in fish.

A recent study of tuna sushi from different New York City restaurants found the fish contained extremely high levels of mercury. Mercury is the second most common toxin found in humanssomething I know all too well. You see, I once suffered from mercury poisoning, in part from eating too much fish.

Fortunately, I got the mercury out of my body quickly by using special foods, supplements, saunas, and chelation therapy. In my own practice, I often see toxic mercury levels in my patients with depression, heart disease, memory loss, and so many other conditions. These problems are reversible, once you get the mercury out.

Got Mercury? Coal-burning industrial facilities spew out millions of pounds of mercury each year. This toxin floats through the air and ends up in the oceans, rivers, and soil of our planet. And since mercury is in our water, it's also in our fishespecially larger varieties.

To read more about the health effects of mercury, see my recent report on this subject in my medical journal, which you can download for free. Autopsies of brains of people who have had early or long-term exposure to mercury show deposits of this toxin throughout the entire brain.

Not sure if you're contaminated? Ask your doctor for one or more of these tests:

1. Blood tests are the most common tests for mercury but only show exposure from the last few months.
2. Hair analysis tests only show methylmercury levels from fish consumption. Ideal levels are lower than 1 ppm.
3. A urine test after a provocation or chelation challenge with DMSA or DMPS, followed by a six-hour urine collection is the only way to know if you have accumulated a lot of mercury in your body over a lifetime. Ideal levels are less then 5-micrograms/gram creatinine.
4. Urinary porphyrin testing is a noninvasive way to tell if the mercury is poisoning your cells.

Have Your Fish and Eat It, Too

It is possible to enjoy fishand the many health benefits of omega-3 fatswithout ingesting mercury. Try these tips:

1. Eat only small fish, like sardines, herring, and small wild salmon.
2. Avoid tuna, swordfish, shark, tilefish, and sea bass, and nearly all river fish.
3. Take 1,000 to 2,000 mg of fish oil a day. It should be distilled or purified fish oil that's 100 percent free of industrial pollutants, especially mercury.
4. Vegetarians should eat plant sources of omega-3 fats such as walnuts, ground flax seeds, and purslane (a green vegetable). Also, supplement with 100 to 200 mg a day of algae-derived DHA (one of the most important omega-3 fats needed for brain function).

Quiz: Are You Deficient? Any positive answers to the symptoms below can indicate an omega-3 fat deficiency.

1. Soft, cracked, or brittle nails
2. Dry, itchy, scaling, or flaking skin
3. Hard earwax
4. Chicken skin (tiny bumps on the backs of arms or on the trunk)
5. Dandruff
6. Aching or stiffness in joints
7. Thirsty most of the time
8. Constipation
9. Light colored, hard, or foul-smelling stools
10. Depression
11. High blood pressure
12. Fibrocystic breasts
13. Premenstrual syndrome
14. High LDL cholesterol, low HDL levels, and high triglycerides
15. North Atlantic genetic background: Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Scandinavian, or coastal Native American
16. Eat fish like sardines, herring, or wild salmon less than 3 times a week

So take a good look at your life, your symptoms, and your diet. You might need a fish oil change. And remember, you can have your fish and eat it too!

by Mark Hyman and visit Omega 3 Fatty Acids.

To Stay Healthy, You Need To Get Enough Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Your body needs a healthy balance of fatty acids which can be obtained by taking Omega 3 supplements.
Disease prevention has an important component: fatty acids. Cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and Depression can possibly be prevented by their use as well as reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and increasing your energy. Some doctors may recommend their patients try fatty acids to help treat rheumatoid arthritis, Raynaud's disease, diabetes and other diseases.

The problem is that our modern eating habits aren't compatible with the amounts of essential fatty acids our bodies require. 1:1 is the perfect ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids. Our diet of processed foods is heavy on the Omega 6 fish oils leaving us with a bit of an imbalance. As a result, the ratio of Omega6:Omega3 in our diets today is about 20:1. This imbalance of fatty acids is thought to be the cause of some of our most serious health issues and even mainstream medicine is advocating the use of Omega 3 supplements to bring our levels back into balance.

To rebalance your essential fatty acids, decrease your intake of foods containing Omega 6 fatty acids. Corn oil and Soy oil both have Omega 6 as does sunflower, safflower and canola oils. You probably have some of these oils in your cabinet right now.

Be diligent, read packaged food labels, they list all ingredients including these oils and you might be surprised at how many foods contain them. A great health conscience choice would be extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil or organic butter. Eating more foods containing Omega 3 fatty acids helps as well. Some examples include fish, walnut oil and flax seed oil.

Many fish have toxic levels of mercury, so ingesting too much mercury which might outweigh the benefits of getting more Omega 3 by eating fish. Haddock, wild Pacific salmon, sardines, tilapia and flounder are the safest fish to eat.

That's why Omega 3 supplements could be a key to better health. There's simply not a better way to raise the ratio between the Omega 3 and 6's in our modern day diets. With cod liver, krill, and alternative fish oils encompassing necessary Omega 3's, minus the exposure of mercury to your system, you have a great way to add the essential fatty acids to your diet. If you do take a supplement, be sure that you also take Vitamin E along with it - the antioxidants in the vitamin will help reduce oxidation.
by Lee Dobbins and you can visit http://www.naturalhealthbuzz.com

Fish Oil Reduces Symptoms Of Exercise Induced Asthma

Fish oil can reduce the symptoms of exercise induced asthma to below the threshold for diagnosing it and at the same time lower the need for emergency medication according to the results of a trial carried out by Indiana University in Bloomington, USA.

The trial was a randomised double blind cross over study and involved 16 people who had mild to moderate asthma and who normally took medication on a daily basis to control it. During the trial those taking part were given either fish oil or a placebo for a period of three weeks. The dose of fish oil was quite high containing 3.2gr of Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 2gr of Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

Both at the beginning and at the end of the trial, the participants were subjected to lung efficiency tests and had their sputum analysed for pro inflammatory cells and markers. Those who were given fish oil showed improved lung efficiency of about 64% and reduced their need for emergency medication by around 31%. They also had a lower level of pro inflammatory cells and markers in their sputum. These promising results are believed to be due to the anti-inflammatory effect of the Omega 3 fatty acids that are present in fish oil.

What is exercise induced asthma?
After exercise and sometimes even during exercise, the airway passages in people with exercise induced asthma become inflamed and narrower resulting in decreased lung efficiency, often making it necessary to use inhalers. The constriction of the airways causes various symptoms including coughing, tightness across the chest, wheezing and shortness of breath. These symptoms generally start to ease off gradually over a period of half an hour or so following exercise.

No one really knows what causes it but it is thought to be triggered by the drying out and cooling of the airway passages which results in the cells releasing pro inflammatory chemicals which then causes a narrowing of the airways. Consequently, exercising in cool and dry conditions outdoors is more likely to result in an attack of asthma than physical activities such as swimming where the air is moist and warmer.

One major problem with exercise induced asthma is that it can be a barrier to exercise for many people, particularly youngsters who can be put off sport and other physical exercise because of it. It is also on the increase and the reason for this is thought to be linked to an increased consumption of Omega 6 fatty acids in the diet along with a reduction in the amount of Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 6 is known to be pro-inflammatory whereas Omega 3 has anti-inflammatory properties and it is this difference in ratio that is thought to be responsible for a rise in a number of health problems.

Omega 6 is found in processed foods, vegetable oils, meats and dairy products so there is an abundance of them in our diet. The Omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA on the other hand are only found in oily fish or fish oil as plant sources of Omega 3 do not contain EPA and DHA, they are in the form of Alpha linolenic acid or ALA, but the problem with ALA is that our bodies cannot easily process it to produce EPA, which is the fatty acid best known for its anti inflammatory effects.

You would have to eat an awful lot of fish to get the same amount of EPA that is present in fish oil, which isn't a good idea due to the potentially harmful toxins, including mercury, that are found in our fish. So, for this reason, fish oil offers a viable and safer alternative. Another point worthy of consideration is that long term use of medication for asthma can make it less effective and of course as with any medication there can also be unwanted side effects so if fish oil can reduce the need for medication and inhalers in people with exercise induced asthma, then that is exciting news indeed.

by: David McEvoy by visit http://www.mind1st.co.uk/fishoil_fishoilsupplements.asp

Does Fish Oil Help Arthritis? (Fish Oil)

Data from at least a few randomized double-controlled studies have demonstrated a beneficial effect of dietary fish oil in rheumatoid arthritis. In fact, more than nine studies overall have shown statistically significant reductions in the number of tender joints. In many of these studies, patients were able to lower the amount of non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and corticosteroids. One study suggested that combining fish oil with olive oil may enhance the anti-inflammatory effects of fish oil. (Kremer J, et al Dietary fish oil and olive oil supplementation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Clinical and immunologic effects. Arthritis Rheum 1990; 33:810-820).

Fish oil works by reducing inflammation. Scant evidence indicates it may retard progression of rheumatoid arthritis… although the effect, if it exists, is relatively mild. Fish oil is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids which can reduce inflammation. Fish oil also lowers triglycerides and reduces blood pressure therefore protecting against cardiovascular disease as well. This is noteworthy because of the known increase in cardiovascular risk, patients with rheumatoid arthritis have.

It is difficult to get therapeutic amounts of fish oil by eating fish alone. Supplements are advised. The type of fish oil is important. The oil should be derived from cold-water fish such salmon, cod, mackerel, halibut, tuna, and herring. Fish oil comes in a variety of preparations. The most common is gel caps. Each gel cap should contain at least thirty per cent EPA/DHA, which are the active compounds. For rheumatoid arthritis about 2.6 grams of fish oil containing 1.6 grams of EPA should be taken twice a day.

A few words of caution. Patients on anticoagulant therapy with warfarin may notice their clotting times will bounce around. Pregnant woman may want to avoid eating cold water fish because of the danger of mercury toxicity. On a lighter note, burps often have a fishy taste and odor.

Dr. Wei is a board-certified rheumatologist and Clinical Director of the nationally respected Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center of Maryland (http://www.aocm.org). However, there are some side effects of fish oil. If you take large doses of supplements which contain high level of vitamins (especially vitamin D) in addition to Omega 3 fatty acids, the risk is possibility of vitamin poisoning. Vitamin poisoning is a condition wcan lead to toxic symptoms. For this reason, you should take fish body oil instead of fish liver based oil.
Another side effect of fish oil is heavy metal poisoning. Many fish contain heavy metal (mercury, lead, nickel, arsenic and cadmium) and other contaminants (PCB's, furans, dioxins). If you eat fish, avoid fish species which contain toxin mercury and contaminants, including Largemouth Bass, Sturgeon, and others such as Shark, Swordfish, King Mackerel, and Tilefish.
Now you may ask: should I give up fish oil? All the side effects of fish oil are avoidable. If you are concern about the side effects, you should take fish oil supplements as your source of Omega 3 fatty acids. In fact, only fish oil contains the form of DHA that can be used by your body. In addition, fish oil helps to protect you against wide spectrum of diseases and promote overall health. Specifically, fish oil is beneficial to:

Cardiovascular health
Skin health and skin disorder, like eczema, psoriasis and rosaceah
Visual function
Brain function
Neurological health
Immune system
Diabetes
Gout and arthritis

So, how to avoid the side effects of fish oil? The best source of Omega 3 fatty acids is fish oil supplements. These tips would help you to choose pure and quality fish oil supplements, to ensure you are safe from the above mentioned side effects:

1.Choose supplements that are manufacture under strict GMP (Good Manufacture Practice) compliance.
2.Choose the supplements that contain high potency of DHA.
3.The fish oil should be in ester form. Ester's fish oil has good bioavailability that allow your body to absorb the essential nutrients.
4.The fish oil should be free from contaminants.
5.Choose the supplements that are processed with molecular distillation. This technology enables manufacturers to filter out contaminants and pollutants from the products.

(c)http://www.health-supplements101.com - All Rights Reserved
Yi Lai is editor of http://www.health-supplements101.com

Why Aren't You Using Fish Oil Capsules? Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to the human body, but are not created by the human body and must be obtained through the food we eat or by taking fish oil capsules. Many doctors recommend fish oil as a dietary supplement, even if a person is eating fish often. For most people, often is three to five times per week. Fish oil benefits many organs of the human body.

Fish oil benefits to brain function are well known. There is a saying that “fish is brain food” and there is good reason for this. A large portion of the brain’s mass is composed of omega-3 fats; in order to replenish and rebuild brain cells, a person must consume adequate amounts of omega-3 fatty acids.

Fish oil capsules have been used to treat depression and attention deficit disorder with positive results, although the evidence is not conclusive yet. In the case of depression a combination of two specific omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) achieved the greatest results.

Fish oil benefits to the heart are also very well known. It is believed that the omega-3 EPA may prevent heart disease. Fish oil capsules used as a health supplement should be rich in EPA and DHA. It is believed that EPA may prevent arthritis and even cancer. Fish oil capsules should be only made from purified fish oil and the source fish should be a fatty fish like salmon, herring or mackerel, or Hoki. Companies supplying fish oil as dietary supplements should be able to provide the consumer with information about the purity of the fish oil, the EPA and DHA content and the fish source.

Fish oil benefits the digestive system as well and can relieve constipation. Dietary changes, insufficient water or fiber intake may lead to constipation. Often it is not necessary to take a laxative which can have unwanted side effects; relief may be found by using fish oil.
Mothers often gave a spoonful of cod liver oil, which smelled nasty and tasted worse, but fish oil capsules are tasteless and odorless and provide all the omega-3 or fish oil benefits in an easy to swallow form.

By Dan Ho. One the one hand, these essential fatty acids are crucial to the development of unborn children. On the other, there is the real risk of mercury contamination. Underlying this controversy, is the sad fact that as many as 85% of expecting mothers are deficient in these important fats. This article will discuss some of the benefits and dangers of fish oils, as well as looking at what scientists recommend in light of it all.The fish oils under review are rich in the omega 3 fatty acids, which are essential fatty acids that the body cannot make itself. They must be derived from food, fortified food, or supplements. Generally, it is oily fish like mackerel, sardines, herring and salmon that are the source of these. Yet, in a survey conducted by Women's Health Research, based in Washington, only 41% of mothers and expecting mothers were aware of the health benefits of omega 3 fatty acids during and after pregnancy. With such statistics, it is not hard to see why so many women are deficient in essential fatty acids during pregnancy. In fact, it is believed that only 2% of pregnant women were getting the right amounts of EPA and DHA - either through diet or supplements. EPA stands for eicosapentaenoic acid, and DHA is docosahexaaenoic acid. Both are the active constituents of fish oil, contributing to the structure and function of a healthy brain and nervous system.Without these healthy fats, a baby's brain and nervous system will not grow optimally. DHA is recognized as being so important that it is now added to some infant formulas, as babies need a lot in the first 2 years of life. DHA contributes to the actual structure of the growing brain, and constitutes about 8% of its' weight! EPA, on the other hand, is particularly important for the functioning of the brain and nervous system. If a pregnant woman is not getting enough EPA and DHA in her own diet, she can lose as much as 3% of her own brain mass in the last 3 months of pregnancy, as the EPA and DHA stored in her own brain is transferred to her baby. Is this why pregnant women complain of feeling forgetful so much!An interesting study carried out at the University Of Western Australia provides some clues of the role of fish oils in a child's fetal development. 83 women completed the study, approximately half of whom were given 4 grams of fish oil from 20 weeks until birth, and the remainder given olive oil supplements. The children's development was measured when they were two and a half years old, and there was found to be an improvement in comprehension, average phrase length, and vocabulary in those whose mothers had taken fish oil when they were pregnant. The researchers reported that overall language skills were the same for each group. They did find that when babies had higher levels of omega 3 fatty acids in their cord blood, there was an improvement in hand and eye coordination. Levels of vegetable oils had no impact on hand-eye coordination.Whilst it can be seen that fish oils are highly beneficial for pregnant women, the potential problem women face is contamination of the oil with mercury, PCB's and dioxins. Mercury contamination can increase the risk of premature births, although the actual incidence of mercury contamination and premature birth associated with fish consumption is very low. One study conducted at Harvard and Michigan State Universities, that did find a link, reported only 4% of the women in the study actually gave birth prematurely. These facts, combined with inconsistencies in studies that reported links between fetal development and mercury exposure, have led scientists to continue recommending pregnant women eat oily fish or take fish oil supplements. The benefits in fetal development, from brain and nervous system development, to coordination and improved vocabulary and comprehension as toddlers, all point to the benefits outweighing the risks. Indeed, one scientist involved in a review of various studies, said he was actually surprised by how little harm was reported. The risks to pregnant women are even further reduced if they source their fish oil supplements carefully.

Fish Oil To Lower Cholesterol

Many questions float around regarding the connection between fish oil and the level of cholesterol, as numerous reports are cited. People are wondering if the consumption of fish oil filled capsules can reduce the levels of cholesterol, if indeed fish oil can protect the human body from the probability of a heart attack.

There is a debate between specialists who argue over the efficiency of fish oil in lowering the levels of cholesterol. A lower probability and incidence of heart attacks has been shown by studies in people who eat fish on a regular basis, especially salmon and mackerel. It is believed that fish oil, because it contains omega-3 fatty acids, fight to lower cholesterol levels. Omega-3 fatty acids are also the main ingredients in fish oil vitamins and supplements. Fish oil prevents heart attacks by reducing the level of triglycerides in the body, but it does not increase the level of good cholesterol, HDL.

The use of a fish diet is considered by many experts very useful in the reduction of heart related problems. The healing properties of the use of supplements and vitamins containing fish oil are, on the other hand, disputed among specialists. The main dilemma posed is the way people should eat fish oil, by taking supplements, or by actual fish eating.

Fish meat has several benefits, among which the most important ones are:
It is very low in calories, thus it is healthy and it also helps controlling your weightThe levels of blood pressure are loweredIt can increase the level of good cholesterolIt lacks saturated fat, if cooked in the absence of fat rich oil

Despite the benefits listed above of the consumption of fish oil, among which the most important one being its ability to lower cholesterol levels, other dangers are presented as a consequence of eating fish. The most alarming one are the possibility of mercury poisoning from high mercury levels present in fish meat. But these risks are far less frequent and dangerous when taking into consideration the benefits fish consumption brings, such as reducing heart problem probability and reducing the LDL cholesterol level. One should only take into consideration the risks of eating fish only if the fish is taken near polluted areas, such as mines and other processing areas.
Jean Helmet is a content editor who focuses on a wide array of niche health topics. Some say that flax oil is better. Others say a fish oil dietary supplement is best. No one denies that they both contain omega-3 fatty acids which are essential to many systems, organs and tissues of the human body. The flax oil vs fish oil conflict concerns which omega-3 is best and why.
Most current scientific study involves the benefits of certain omega-3 fatty acids to heart and brain health. The omega-3s used in these studies are DHA and EPA. These are found in a high quality fish oil dietary supplement. Flax oil contains an omega-3 called ALA and other fatty acids. The benefits of flax oil and fish oil are somewhat different and each can be beneficial, but for different reasons.

Flax oil vs fish oil
However, for heart health, a fish oil dietary supplement is recommended by most medical experts and naturopathic practitioners. ALA needs to be converted to DHA and EPA in the body....and this conversion does not always take place, especially for people who are in less than optimal health. This would include many elderly folks. On the other hand, if you're in good health flax seed ALA may be converted by the body to DHA and EPA.
Thus, when the heart is concerned in the flax oil vs fish oil debate, fish oil wins in our opinion since you can get the crucial DHA and EPA directly through a quality fish oil. For brain health and symptoms like depression, a fish oil dietary supplement is recommended for much the same reasons.
The brain needs large amounts of DHA, but if the body needs the ALA for some other reason, it may not ever be converted to DHA.
So, when the brain is discussed in the fish oil vs flax seed oil debate, fish oil wins again.
Having said all of this, some people prefer flax oil over fish oil for various reasons. For example, strict vegetarians must supplement their diet with some type of omega-3, but will not take a fish oil dietary supplement.
Flax seed oil may help to alleviate hot flashes in menopausal women. It would be nice if there were one supplement that did everything for everyone, but there is no such supplement.
Having read up on fish oil vs flax seed oil, visit us now to learn about the highest quality fish oil dietary supplement that we ourselves use after extensive product comparisons.
