I was looking into my “memory” box, the one that I’ve been keeping since I was 9. It is where I kept images of friends and love ones, letters and simple notes that have touched my life in many ways that has somehow became one of the biggest reasons why I am what I am today.

Of all the many simple tokens, one has put so much tears to my eyes as I reminisce the past. It is a book mark given to me by my mom. On it is a beautiful piece of poetry entitled, “DON’T QUIT” written by an anonymous person.

Although, most of us may already know the poem, let me share it with my readers in the form of this slide show.

Are you going to quit now?....

The poem has touched my life so tremendously, especially during the most difficult times, when I felt like the world had turned its back on me.

We all have our share of the best and the worst. And at times when we have to struggle and climb our own mountains, there is a point when we just want to leave what we have to face alone and just leave everything behind. As if we would just like the world to stop. We sometimes try to stop our own little world to revolve expecting that the whole world would follow, and yet, as we open our eyes to what is real, the world turns around as it should no matter how we try with tears in our eyes to stop it.

For so many reasons, giving up would be so good to do. And yet, if we try to think more deeply, there could just be total void in our life if we choose to give up. There is always uncertainty in keeping on but it is far better to continue struggling looking for what’s next than to give up and grope in the dark knowing that in the middle of uncertainty, one has not given himself A CHANCE to try harder to achieve what he is hoping to happen.

NEVER GIVE UP!

I want to share this story which may become a reason why one should choose to hold on. This is a true to life struggle by a man that everyone may even know. And honestly, I read his story every time failures overcome me.

William: The Candle and Soap Maker

William was a young boy who had to leave his home at the age of 16 because his father could no longer afford to take care of their family’s needs. All his family knew was to make homemade candles and soaps that they try to sell at the market. If they were lucky, they could bring home some food for the day for the whole family, but most of the time they were not that lucky enough. If he stayed home, he might just be an extra “workload” for his family, so he decided to leave.

*As he left home, he met an old neighbor who asked him where he was going, and he just said, “I do not know. But my father is too poor to keep me at home and I already need to make a living for myself.” The old man said, “There is no trouble with that, be sure you start right, and you’ll get along fine.” William told him that the only trade he knew was soap and candle making. The old man said, “Well, let me pray with you once more and give you a little advice, then I’ll let you go.”

They both kneeled down in silent prayer and after that, the old man gave his advice: *”Someone will soon be the leading soap maker in New York. It can be YOU as well as ANYONE. BE A GOOD MAN, GIVE YOUR LIFE TOTALLY TO CHRIST, AND PAY THE LORD ALL THAT BELONGS TO HIM BEGINNING WITH YOUR TITHE WITH EVERY DOLLAR YOU EARN. Make an HONEST SOAP, give a FULL POUND, and I’m certain, you will yet be a prosperous and rich man.”

William went to the city but it was difficult for him to land a job as he was only 16 and he is not educated. He remembered his mother’s and his old friend’s advice to SEEK GOD AND GIVE HIS LIFE TO HIM. Soon he landed a job that gave him a very low salary, yet he NEVER FAILED to give GOD his portion. Soon, he found regular employment and became a business partner. In a few years time, he became the sole owner of his own business.

As he became prosperous and richer, he never forgot his promise to never stop giving what is due to GOD and to dedicate his whole life to HIM. He made an HONEST SOAP, and even instructed his book keeper to open a bank account solely for GOD.

William truly prospered, he and his family was so blessed not only with material wealth but with the chance to spend all the time to be together again. William is now a very famous man… he has made his name a word that will never fail to ring a bell, because he is WILLIAM COLGATE, now a household name!

Never give up… never lose hope…

There could never be any doubt for the arrival of success to people who never stop dreaming and working for their dreams to come true as long as they never stop walking hand in hand with GOD as they walk their own road of struggles. One should never put in his head his own inadequacies and limitations. For in HIM, there could never be an impossible thing to those who never stop trying hard to achieve their dreams. Dreams do come true to those who never quit and at the same time put all their faith in GOD that HE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE TO LIGHT THEIR PATH IN THEIR DARKEST NIGHTS. It is a fact that we are more blessed to realize how God lovingly keep us in his care in our most trying times. That as we look back to our stormiest days, we realize that these were the days that we’ve been taken cared of a million more times by the ONE WHO WILL ALWAYS BE THERE IN OUR BEST AND WORST. It is a sad reality that we fail to realize all these things when our own storms overcome us.

Never give up, because it is not really the outcome of what we do that makes us a true winner. It is how we deal along with life as we struggle for our dreams to come true that truly makes us a better and sturdier person. It is what really makes us a winner. After all, it is better to fail trying hard to achieve our dreams than to fail because we never tried.

As I closed my “memory” box, my eyes were filled with tears knowing I am blessed all the time. In most of my life’s struggles, these simple reminders have made me so sturdy enough to face the world. Thanks to the people who came into my life and left footprints that will always be a part of my very soul. Thanks most of all to HIM who walks with me all the days of my life. Deep in my heart, I know why I NEVER AND WILL NEVER GIVE UP.Thanks to the people who were always there to teach me what to do when I want something... and that is TO GET IT WITH STURDY SELF ESTEEM, WITH AN HONEST HEART AND MIND, AND WITH AN UNFALTERING FAITH IN HIM.

I Am A "Pandemic Baby" Financial Advisor

Hello there! I know it's been more than 2 months since my latest blog. Been so busy lately and here I am finally about to share moments with you again.

Two days ago, I have posted something on my social media that I am about to address right now. You might be wondering why I had to write this as a blog while in fact I could just address it on my social media wall. But deep within me, I want to share what I am about to say not only to my friends and readers who connected with me via social media. I would like to share this even to readers who may not even be a subscriber to this blog or may not even know me, but may accidentally read this blog. I want to share this piece of my small mind, so that no matter how small I may seem, I could somehow ignite some positivity, or somehow inspire others.

I had my first and only baby on 2007 and that was the time when I felt differently about the world. I had to resign from my job to take full care of my family. Of course, I was and still a happy contented wife and and a doting mom, but there were times when I missed my job, I missed interacting with others aside from my family. A woman who had full time job after graduating from college and suddenly needing to resign and stay full time at home can understand me well... And for those that may not, that will be a subject that I would gladly share with you for next time.

The year 2007 was the time when the internet was finally so easy to access even in the comforts of our own home. So, there I was... trying to find ways to burn my extra energy after taking care of my baby and when he is sound asleep. I was browsing the web on that day in 2007 when suddenly I had the urge to make hand crafted bracelets and printing T-shirts that I designed. I started sharing their pictures on Friendster then suddenly a friend of mine asked if I was selling them. It was not my intent to sell but that has given me the idea that I would enjoy selling my crafts on the web and so I did and had been an online seller since then.

So many things have happened from then, I was enjoying and still enjoying my own online selling business and even started blogging on 2009, even though I have low earnings I am always happy whenever my clients are happy and contented with what I had to offer.

At this point, I know you are hating me... lol! Because by now, you might be curious of what I shared on my wall two days ago. I would not show a screen shot on my blog for that post because I am not really sure if the company I am connected with would allow me to. But that post is connected with my production rate at my new venture as a Licensed Financial Advisor. Yes, the post was something great, something that could make you curious how a first timer Financial Advisor who stays all the time at home could somehow have a production that could inspire her boss to give her credit and to applaud her on social media. So many of my friends are asking how I did it, most especially that the pandemic has truly put a burden on us all, and to think that I am a "pandemic baby" as a Financial Advisor. Yes! I started this FA venture last March 12, 2020, and our place was on lock-down last March 15, 2020.

First and foremost, as an online seller and now also as an FA (Financial Advisor), there is one thing that we should put in mind when we try to sell something no matter what it may be, and no matter how much it cost- ALWAYS learn first IF WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO SELL WILL BENEFIT YOUR CLIENT not just basing on what they need but also basing on things that will make them realize how much they need it even in the days to come. There may be some impulsive buyers who will just buy right away, but they will not come back once their elated shopaholic nature has passed. But if you sell these impulsive buyers with something that they may have impulsively bought and later on realize that what you offer is a great need even for their future, they will keep coming back.

Secondly, NEVER SELL products that you do not believe in, nor do you promote a company that you do not put your faith into just for the sake of making money. Offer the products and company that you trust and have first hand experience with.

Another thing is BE KIND ENOUGH TO KEEP IN TOUCH with your clients, NEVER EVER FORGET that you owe them an after sale care. Especially if you are a Financial Advisor like me, you always... ALWAYS NEED TO be an advocate for your clients' needs which are connected with what you have sold them. Never leave them alone. As an FA, you MUST BE AUTOMATICALLY BE A PART OF THEIR LIFE and be there when their need of you arises. Later, you would also realize that the clients that were satisfied with your services are the same clients who refer you to other prospective clients in the future.

One thing more to never forget, have the habit of giving time and listening to your boss who serves as your mentor. Be open minded and make time for continuous learning. Honestly, I am guilty when it comes to the learning at this point in time due to busy schedules, but I know that learning much more will give us more room to grow.

And lastly, like all businesses, always give specific time to do your business. When it is time to do it, even when you are home based, keep that time strictly for it. Do it whole heartedly and never let any destructions ruin your schedule doing it. Learn to love what you do. Because in the real world, you cannot always have the luxury of choosing to do what you love.

Also keep in mind that in doing any business, even your own, TEAM WORK is ALWAYS A NECESSITY. The progress and achievements of one is an achievement of the whole team. So even if your name is the only one that is applauded, always keep in mind who were there when you were struggling to achieve something. Always be grateful to people who are always there to support you and always include them in your prayers, mention them to others who look up on you. Tell others how these supportive people have touched your life. Be a blessing to people who bless you with their knowledge, skills, positive energy, and lose their sleep just to help you out.

I am not really an expert on doing business online nor I am an expert as an FA but I hope that somehow we all realize that ALL BUSINESSES THRIVE because of one strong reason, WE SELL NOT JUST TO EARN BUT ALSO TO ENHANCE THE LIFE OF PEOPLE WHO TRUSTED US ENOUGH to invest and buy our products. I am not a constant outstanding Financial Advisor, I also had zero months but I make it a point to always listen to my mentors, and work hard as I pray harder. Always have the heart to focus on what your client can get from what they buy from you, never focus on how much you will earn, because God knows what is in your heart. He rewards abundantly those who know the value of being humane even in businesses that we deal with. When we treat our clients like our family, and make them happy, all else, even wealth will follow.

Thanks again, for spending time with this blog. Just sharing to inspire and NOT TO BRAG, because I know there is nothing to brag about. You may see me on social media with those certificates sometimes, but always know that behind all those you see are struggles and pains. I've had so much rejections and rudeness from other people just like any seller or FA could have known. And there are so many great online sellers and Financial Advisors out there who are far better than me, and much more deserving to share their habits. I hope to feature some of them on this blog someday.

NEVER Judge Your Brother's Battle Within

The loneliest place to be: FEELING LIKE AN ALIEN IN THE COMPANY OF PEOPLE WHO CLAIM TO LOVE YOU...

September is Suicide Prevention Month. Loving someone means making them feel a sense of belongingness even at their darkest moods. Not all sense of doom can easily be programmed by thinking positively. There is something that is deeper and DARKER than loneliness, called DEPRESSION.

Factors that may predispose a person to be depressed, include the following:

Death or loss of a loved one - this may cause so much grief to the point where the body could no longer tolerate. Grief can alter the production of hormones, and in this case our feel bad hormones may become so abundant causing us to be depressed.
Abuse - a person who was physically, emotionally, or sexually abused in the past, has a high vulnerability to clinical depression later in his/ her life.
Conflict - Personal conflicts or disputes with family members or friends, may make one vulnerable to be depressed.
Major events or any memorable events, good or bad. Even good events such as having a new job, marrying the man/ woman of your dreams, can cause depression as much as losing a job, retiring, money problems, or getting divorced. But keep in mind that clinical depression is never just a "normal" response to stressful life events. Depression is much deeper than sadness and loneliness.
Genetics - family history of depression may increase the risk. According to studies, depression is a complex trait, which means that there are probably many different genes, each exerting small effects, rather than a single gene that contributes to disease risk. The genetics of depression, like most psychiatric disorders, are not as simple or straightforward as in purely genetic diseases.
Medications that has side effects that could cause depression.
Personal problems such as social isolation due to other mental illnesses or being an outcast from your own family or social group.
Terminal illnesses such as cancer and other serious illnesses such Diabetes Mellitus, and other incapacitating illnesses may cause depression due to feelings of worthlessness and the fear of not having enough resources to gain back one's health, or worst, fear of dying and being alone. Sometimes depression can co-exist with major illnesses or may be triggered by another medical conditions such as Adenomyosis due to hormonal alterations that can cause the increase of feel bad hormones.
Substance abuse. People with substance abuse problems also have major or clinical depression. Drugs or alcohol may temporarily make you feel better, they are also known to cause one to have depression in the long run.

These are just a few of the causes of depression. But whatever the cause may be, NEVER JUDGE ANYONE WHO IS DEPRESSED. DO NOT JUDGE OTHERS WHEN THEY FEEL THAT WAY, BECAUSE YOU NEVER WERE GIVEN THE CHANCE TO WALK IN THEIR SHOES. We react in myriad ways, JUST BE THANKFUL IF YOU FEEL COURAGEOUS ALL THE TIME AND NEVER JUDGE THE DEPRESSED. Just be thankful if "YOU CAN JUST SNAP OUT " of your loneliness at any given point in time. Because in all of life's realities, THEY ARE MUCH MORE COURAGEOUS THAN WE PERCEIVE THEM TO BE. Having the ability to BATTLE WITH DEPRESSION and bounce back and forth takes much more than a SUPER MAN COURAGE TO SURVIVE EVERYDAY.

Check out with your friends and loved ones. SOME HAPPY LOOKING AND JOYFUL BEHAVING PEOPLE ARE CRYING OUT AND DYING OUT INSIDE. Never try to talk them out of depression nor do you tell them to snap out of it BECAUSE IT IS NOT AS EASY AS IT MAY SEEM. JUST BE THERE. A SINCERE HUG AND A SILENT PRESENCE CAN COMFORT MUCH MORE THAN WE CAN IMAGINE.

Somewhere Over the RAINBOW

Who could ever forget this song which became so popular because of the classic movie “The Wizard of Oz”? Everyone who has read the book and watched the film would really appreciate this song so much and would truly remember DOROTHY.

Originally "The Wizard of Oz" (a.k.a "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz") is a children’s novel, authored by L. Frank Baum and was published in1900. Since then, it has then been reprinted a million times. In 1902, it was played on stage and eventually was filmed in 1939. It remained a very popular fantasy film for many years. This paved way to popularize the name DOROTHY because it was the name of a girl who is the center of the story.

This film was well loved by many, maybe (or surely) because of the after taste that it leaves in the hearts of those who have read or watched it. I, myself have loved the story so much that I would love to share it to my son when the time is right.

A short review of "The Wizard of Oz".... and DOROTHY

Dorothy is a girl who lived with her Uncle Henry, Aunt Em, and little dog Toto in Kansas. She always wished to just go away and have her own life with her dog. At that time, she did not appreciate the goodness of her own home.One day the farmhouse, with Dorothy and Toto inside, is caught up in a tornado and found themselves in a field in the Land of Oz. The falling house kills the ruler of the Munchkins, who is the Wicked Witch of the East.

The Good Witch of the North came to welcome Dorothy and gave her the Silver Shoes that the Wicked Witch of the East was wearing when she was killed. In order to return to Kansas, the Good Witch of the North told Dorothy that she will have to go to the "Emerald City" and ask the Wizard of Oz to help her.On her way,Dorothy freed a Scarecrow from the pole he is hanging on, restored the movements of the rusted Tin Woodman with an oil, and encouraged them and the Cowardly Lion to journey with her and Toto to the Emerald City. The Scarecrow wanted to get a brain, the Tin Woodman a heart, and the Cowardly Lion, courage. They all believed that the Wizard can help them. Together, they overcame all obstacles along the way.

When they arrived at the Emerald City, they are asked to use green eyeglasses by the Guardian of the Gates. The wizard showed himself in different ways every time he appeared to someone. To Dorothy, the Wizard is a giant head;the Tin Woodman saw a ravenous beast; the Cowardly Lion saw a ball of fire and the Scarecrow saw a beautiful woman. The Wizard agreed to help each of them, in one condition that one of them must kill the Wicked Witch of the West who rules over the Winkie Country.

As the friends traveled across the Winkie Country, the Wicked Witch sends wolves, bees, crows and her soldiers to attack them, but they managed to conquer them. Then, using the power of the Golden Cap, the Witch summons the Winged Monkeys to capture all of the travelers.

The Wicked Witch got one of Dorothy's silver shoes, Dorothy got angry and grabbed a bucket of water and splashed it on the Wicked Witch, who begun to melt. The Winkies rejoiced for being free from the witch, and they helped to reassemble the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. The Winkies love the Tin Woodman, and they asked him to become their ruler, and he agreed and promised to come back after helping Dorothy to go home.

When Dorothy and her friends met the Wizard of Oz again, he did not want to talk to them anymore. And with the help of fate, Toto accidentally tipped over a screen in a corner of the throne room, revealing the Wizard to be an old man who had journeyed to Oz from Omaha long ago in a hot air balloon.

The Wizard provided the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion with a head full of bran, pins, and needles, a silk heart stuffed with sawdust, and a potion of "courage", respectively. Not knowing that these items were really useless, it caused a "placebo" effect on them and has helped them to go on with their journey. In order to help Dorothy and Toto get home, the Wizard realizes that he will have to take them home with him in a new balloon, which he and Dorothy made. Revealing himself to the people of the Emerald City one last time, the Wizard appoints the Scarecrow, by virtue of his brains, to rule in his stead. Dorothy chases Toto after he runs after a kitten in the crowd, and before she can make it back to the balloon, the ropes break, leaving the Wizard to rise and float away alone.

Dorothy became hopeless and thought that she can't go home but The Soldier with the Green Whiskers informed her about Glinda the Good Witch of the South. Together, with her dog, they escaped the obstacles but almost losing Toto along the journey to Glinda's home.Glinda eventually told Dorothy that she had the power to go home. Dorothy and Toto returned home realizing that there's no place like home.

We are at times like DOROTHY, wishing to find happiness and believing we can have it elsewhere, and thinking that we can find joy by having some things that we don't have at the moment and leaving behind what we have.

I can still remember what my grandfather once told me about a fish most admired in Japan. I felt so down, so unhappy because of the pressures of being a teenager, and seeing him sick and bedridden was so difficult. One thing I remember most about my grandfather is that he was always so sensitive to how I felt. He always knew how I truly felt and always had the right things to say to make me feel better. Seeing me feeling down might have caused him to talk about the carp fish. According to him, the carp fish is considered as courageous and determined fish in Japan because it swims upstream, even against the flow of waterfalls. Because of their reverence to the fish, they even celebrate Children's Day in Japan every year on the 5th. day of May, by tying carp- shaped wind socks to their homes as a way to wish their children HAPPINESS.

In our own quest for happiness, we cannot achieve what we are looking for if we don’t have enough courage and determination to go against the waves of life and without the heart to just sail with the winds to find our own rainbows. Whenever you feel sad, go on and cry as much as you like. In reality, life’s like that, no one has ever had constant feelings of happiness. But don’t let it take you away. Don’t cry and feel sorry all your life, stay courageous and determined.

Happiness is in the small things that come to us unknowingly everyday... We may have long found our rainbows but never realized it at all.

In this life, we can’t deny the fact that true happiness does not linger constantly. Although much has been heard and read about how to be happy and what happiness is all about, we sometimes suffer the blues, or even depressions brought about by the hassles and bustles in our day to day existence. And like Dorothy, we sometimes wish that we could just go away find our own rainbows and eventually be happy. We often lose hope, letting go of our own courage and determination.

We dream of a land that is hassle free… yet in the real world, nothing is hassle free. It is just that we fail to realize sometimes that only after the storms can we find rainbows and beyond the clouds are blue skies waiting to show up. Troubles don’t really melt like lemon drops, but who cares? We have God to help us to be sturdy enough and face whatever life may give us. We wish that clouds may be far behind us, but it would be better if we ask Him to stay with us and keep us strong as we rage the storms of life. We may envy the birds for their ability to fly yet we could have known that we’ve been flying without wings because of His love and the love of the people who truly cares for us. We complain of a boring life, yet we forget that the things we do and care for everyday are the things we live for. We are at times irritated with the people around us, never realizing that they are actually our reasons for holding on. They are the ones who stay with us through the good and the bad. We often forget the people who always pat our shoulders to inspire us whenever we feel down. As always, life is not a fairy tale, but dreams turn into reality as long as we keep believing and doing things with God’s never ending mercy, with the knowledge that we can never be alone because He has blessed us with a family, friends and even strangers who can teach us lessons in life that no book could ever teach.

In a gist, we can always be happy as long as we realize how to appreciate and look at the brighter side of life, with the heart that knows who holds our future despite our day to day uncertainties. Like Dorothy, we should realize that everyone has the power to overcome their own obstacles, and sometimes, we need the help of other people to make us realize how tough we can get. The wizard did not really “gave” them what they wanted because they had it inside themselves all along; the Scarecrow had a brain, he just needed to be given a chance to use it; the Tin Man had a heart, he just needed someone to care for; the Lion had courage, he just needed a true opportunity to be courageous; and of course, Dorothy, according to Glinda, had the power to go home all along with the use of the silver shoes which was given to her even at the very beginning of her journey. And they would have not done all these if they were not courageous and determined.

Aside from that, the adage popularized by “The Wizard of Oz” which says, “There’s no place like home,” is true. Sometimes, we fail to be happy because we don’t often realize the true value of the people who are always with us. Like Dorothy, we sometimes want a place elsewhere thinking that we could be happier and have a better life only to realize how much we want to go home and how happy we could get when we get back to where our real happiness is- OUR HOME.

At the end of the day, we could realize that our quest for happiness has taken us away from it, because we failed to keep in mind that true happiness is the appreciation of what we have and the security of knowing that although we are not perfect, some people truly love and care for us. Happiness is in the presence, the hugs and loving gestures of our family, the encouragement of our real friends and the life we live everyday with these people who loves us unconditionally. These are the cause of our joys, and the things that we should always keep in mind whenever we face the stormiest days of our life… these are the things that somehow keep us HAPPY.

Fixing A Broken Heart ( After The Loving...)

I just can’t help but feel some pity for someone I saw on the news days ago. He killed himself for having some troubles with his girlfriend. A friend who was watching with me at that time laughed and said that he’s crazy, for how could he kill himself just for having a broken heart?

Some people may react different ways about the idea of having a broken heart because of failed relationships. At most, especially if you are not the one suffering from it, you may think that the broken hearted’s feelings will just go away in just a click. Some people may feel so depressed and may even result to self-directed hatred and worst of all, suicide.
In reality, no matter how we react to it, having a broken heart can be devastating. It can rob you off your self worth and you could find yourself struggling so hard that you may fail to live normally like you used to.

Let’s face the fact that a failed relationship wherein we have to lose someone is like dealing with death and dying. Not every one of us is equipped with so much ability to adjust and bounce back like nothing had happened. Aside from that, as long as we keep a relationship, we invest on our emotions and time for the one we love. We sacrifice many things just to be with him or even cope with his expectations and demands just to find ourselves in the middle of nowhere when the relationship dies.

Truly, broken hearts can also mean broken dreams and broken promises. As soon as we lose the one we love, we have to face life without him. Here are a few ways to mend a broken heart and somehow ease the pain.

On the first day after the break up and within a week:

1. Cry as much as you need to. You may refrain from doing the routine that you do everyday. Take some time off from work or school. Do what you like at home or anywhere that you feel like going. If you feel like sleeping all day, do it. Indulge with your comfort food while you cry and sob as much as you need to.

2. Call a trusted friend to talk to. Talk all about your hurts and how you feel. Pour out all the emotions that are inside you. You can ask your friend to be with you to watch some movie, or watch a marathon of any TV series that enables you to keep off your mind from thinking too much. You can choose from comedy, to movies that may make you cry. Surprising as it may seem, but watching some sad movies during a hard time may also help in the healing process.

3. Accept the reality that a relationship that you thought would last did not work out. And appreciate the fact that although you are now heart broken, for once in your life, you fell in love. It does not necessarily mean that once you have accepted this fact, you are healed from a broken heart. Acknowledge how the pain is hurting you so bad at the moment.

4. Pray as much as you need to and as long as you feel like doing it. No matter where you are, if you feel the urge to pray, pray from the heart. Cry out loud in prayer that you can make it through the grieving process.

After a week:

1. Make sure that on this day, you have acknowledged the fact that you have lost someone that you hold dear in your heart. Start and try to socialize again even if you don’t feel like doing it at this moment. Make sure that you don’t cry as often as the days after the break up.

2. Express how you feel through your journal or as always, talk to a trusted friend or love one.

3. Go out of town to change your environment. This will minimize you from missing your ex. Staying on the same place and having a chance to pass by a place where you both used to spend time together may cause you to miss him even more. Your working place or school may also be one of the places where you think of him all the more for it is where he fetches you or where you meet everyday.

4. Listen to relaxing music or even to love songs. Some may make you cry but after that, you may feel better.

5. Do a hobby that you have been longing to spend more time on.

6. Call your ex if you feel like calling him, but if fighting with him is a possibility, DON’T CALL AT ALL. If you need to tell him some things but are not sure if it will only cause a fight, try writing it on your journal or compose a letter for him but NEVER mail it. The most vital thing at this moment is that you can bring out all your feelings and say all sorts of hurtful words that you long to say whether he will know them or not.

7. Remove everything that he has given you like love letters or any keepsakes from your sight. You can throw or burn them or just give away the keepsakes. However, if you don’t feel like doing this, just keep them away from your sight so that you will not be tempted to look at them over and over again and you won’t be reminded of your ex often.

…. And onwards:

1. You can always do what you have done in the past week, but make sure not to attempt to call your ex anymore no matter what.

2. Never stop surrounding your self with people and friends that emphasize the positive in your life.

3. Start pampering your self, exercise, and start a balanced diet. This will not only boost the production of your feel-good hormones which are helpful in keeping the blues away, but it will also make you look better as you reach your ideal weight. On the other hand, a balanced diet will also help you have better-looking skin and a better mood.

4. Take time to relax. Do a beauty makeover if you wish. The internet is packed up on DIY for self care that can be easily done at home.

5. Start going on a date when you feel like it.

6. Socialize in a positive way – never drink alcohol or use drugs to “forget”. At this time of quarantine, socialize via the social media. Keep in mind to edit the settings so that your news feed will just be from people who give positive vibes in your life.

7. Surround yourself with people who help you to forget your ex and keep away from people who give you false hope about winning your ex back.

8. Learn ways to keep yourself from remembering your ex. Every time he/ she enters your mind, divert your thoughts to other things.

Always remember that people change. And if some people suddenly realize that you no longer serve the purpose you once had in their life, it does not mean that you are a lesser person. It just means that people change, people grow... and you will do the same. Someday, you will realize that the broken heart you have right now have made you a better person. Someday, God will bless you with someone who can love you forever, HE will bless you at HIS MOST PERFECT PLACE AND TIME... and you will just laugh at your self for crying like a baby in the past. But while you wait, BE STRONG and LOVE YOUR SELF... KNOW THAT YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT, AND YOU DESERVE TO BE HAPPY AGAIN.

Of Broken Hearts and Solitude

Lately, we have all been reading sad posts on social media, talking about self-pity, feelings of being unloved and being alone even in the presence of the people who should be there to love them. Lately, all we hear from the news are human sufferings, hatred, and fears. Sometimes.. if not often times, we are all so overwhelmed with what is happening to our world and even in our own life. It is a sad world… it is a sad reality that some even try to end their life because of all this chaos happening around us.

Almost all my life, I am amazed at how most of my friends, even acquaintances, would suddenly open up to me about their own loneliness and hang-ups. I am flattered, but at the same time, I feel like I am feeling how they feel and I always wish that I could do something about their sufferings. I remember the days when I was so young… always wishing that I could be a fairy who could just use a wand to make others happy. And despite that, I am one of the many people who could cast deep sadness and even heartbreaking loneliness to people around me.

There is always a shadow of uncertainty even in our own triumphant times… there is always something that is missing in our deepest soul no matter how much we try to appreciate what we have. There is a time when we feel that we could not turn to anyone at all… we feel alone, and suddenly, the world around us seems to have turned upside down and we are left groping in the dark. I remember a line that said that “the loneliest emotion that could ever happen to someone is feeling alone in the company of the people who are supposed to love them.” And it is true, whether we admit it or not, there will always be a time when we are craving to cry out loud but no one will ever listen. There are times when we just need someone there to listen without judgment, and even without trying to understand… these are the moments when we just want to be comforted with a hug or a pat on the shoulder, just because no words nor any kind of understanding can comfort us, only to feel so much more alone because no one will be there to do these things for us.

You may be wondering why I write all these… all about being broken and being lonely. In this time of chaos, in the midst of Covid19, we can not deny the fact that we feel all these. We are anxious, we are scared.. and to top it all up, we have our own struggles that at times, no single soul can understand. I am writing this to let a lonely soul know, that he is NOT ALONE. The world is just too overwhelmed. Yes, we are all overwhelmed at what is happening around us that we often forget to let others feel our presence. We are all feeling alone at times because we are all too busy coping with our own struggles. We always feel incomplete but we should rest with the fact that we are not the only ones feeling that way and it would help a lot not to rely on others to be a shoulder to lean on because they are also struggling like we do and we have myriad coping styles.

Sometimes, we need to realize that even our toughest friend who is always able to lend us a hand each time we fall, also needs comfort and loving gestures. Sometimes, we have to be aware that the listening ear to us, also needs someone to listen, and the arms that comfort us also needs the same comforting.

In this most trying times, it is a courageous act to choose to go on with life. It is the time to realize that we should start relying on ourselves and start loving what and who we are because there will always be times when we will have no one but ourselves to comfort us. And as we do that, we should be comforted by the fact that there is that invincible loving arms who listen to us especially when no single man would. We have an omnipotent God who can give us all, and we should stop expecting things from other people because HE never fails to help the ones who help themselves. Whenever we need a place to rest, we should go running in HIS loving embrace, pick our broken pieces, and brave life once again. Keep crying as much as we could, but we should choose life after all.

This life is truly tough but hush your heart, rest your spirit because God has made us tougher than life. We just need to realize how beautifully we are made with a creative mind and a courageous heart. Stop expecting others to love and listen to you. Start listening to HIM, start feeling His presence in your life. There is no guarantee that you will be happy, but there is a guarantee of security and love, and that someday, you will find joy and happiness in your heart.

I don’t know why I am writing this right now. Maybe I am just nostalgic of how we used to be. I didn’t know that I had to do this nor even planned of doing it. Yet I did, because you are a part of me, you have a space in my heart that no one else could ever replace.

I am missing you today… I miss holding your hands under the rain and the days we had under the sun. It was all fun, and every day was something to celebrate when you are around no matter what life has brought.

How To Cope With The Work From Home Routine

Oh, yes, May 2020 is about to end and we are still in quarantine, still uncertain of what the Covid19 is really all about… still no cure, no vaccine. Although some of us may be working at our designated workplaces right now, so many of us are still confined at home, doing our home-based jobs. At times, and almost all the time, especially when we are used to dressing up each morning getting ready to go out of our houses to work, we may feel bored and even anxious just staying at home and doing the work that we used to do at our sweet sweet office habitat.

In my case, nothing much seemed to change since the enhanced community quarantine started last March. If you have been one of my loyal readers since 2009, you will remember that since then, I was having my home-based job to give more attention to my baby who was 2 years old at that time (now, I am nostalgic..hehehe!).

I know how it feels to be so busy once and then all of a sudden you have to be confined inside your homes. But on the lighter side, I found ways to adjust to such situations and to finally enjoy working from home. I am here now to share these simple tips on how to finally enjoy your new routine as a work from home employee. But before I start, please let me apologize for sharing these tips only now that the quarantine is slowly lifting. It is because it is only now that I came to understand that some of us may be working from home for good especially for those who have been laid off from a job and would attempt to be self-employed soon.

So here are the few basic things that we can do to improve and enjoy our work from home experience:

Condition your mind and understand that working from home at this point in time is a practice that will keep you and your loved ones safer from possible Covid19 infection.
Understand that despite working from home, you are lucky to still have your job and are still able to make a living for your family. The Covid19 pandemic has brought upon us an economic instability and ergo, the massive lay off of so many employees. So, it does not really matter whether you are at the office or at home as long as you still have a source of income that can maintain your lifestyle, or even if there may be a minor set back, what matters is that YOU ARE WORKING and EARNING A LIVING.

Now that you have conditioned your mind and you have programmed your heart to be thankful, let us consider your working place which is your home:

It is vital that you find a nook or any corner of your room or anywhere in your house, wherein you can set up a small working space. A working space means a place where there are no clutters that can bother you while you are working. If you have just enough space, a small nook in your room may be the best bet since you will be alone inside working all day. The living or dining room may not be so conducive because it is the place where the other people in your house may be spending their time during the day. Just remember that if you are going to utilize your room as a venue, you need to make your bed so that you will not unconsciously feel tempted to keep sleeping or just resting instead of doing your job. On the other hand, if you have other conducive venues in your house, feel free to occupy that space because your comfort while working greatly affects all your work output.

Have a desk and storage in that small nook of yours that will be exclusively dedicated to your work. Never put anything that is not connected to work in that area so that your energy and aura will always be programmed to work whenever you start spending your time in that special nook. Remember to be mindful where you place your laptop, always make sure that you place them somewhere where you can always be ready to have video calls and online meetings with your boss and co-workers or even your clients. Your back view when you are video chatting should be put into consideration. For example, a clean wall is better than a doorway to the bathroom. You never know when someone comes out from that bathroom with only a towel on while you are video conferencing.
Live each day as if you are still going to work at your office. Take a bath on time, dress up, and for the ladies, put on your make up and yes even your red lipstick that makes you feel better whenever you have a rough day at work. Eat on time. There are ways to do this even if you are at home which I will be sharing soon with another blog post.
Set goals for each day. Manage your time wisely. Since staying at home to work can give you additional works. Yes, you read that right… and yes, I am laughing again!!! That is because working from home will give you the chance to see first-hand home chores and at this time you have to manage your time between doing the job that pays you and the household chores that you do free of charge out of love for your home mates. To manage your time well, it is helpful that you have your calendar and a planner, and even a notebook wherein you could make a list of what to do and prioritize from the list. Keep in mind what to achieve for the day and which ones can be started at the moment and could be finalized for the following days. If you do multiple jobs like me, it is helpful to have multiple notebooks that are labeled according to what company it is meant for.

Never try to procrastinate. Take deadlines seriously even if you are at home and could hide from your boss anytime you want. Remember once again that you are one of the few lucky people who are still employed while so many have lost their jobs and are struggling to find a new one. Having a salary is just one of the perks of having a job, but knowing that you do things because you have true concern for the company you work for and for your clients, will truly give you peace of mind and joy. Being a part of other people’s lives that benefits them is a perk that satiates your soul. Never deliver half baked goods. If you are self-employed, give your self a deadline or a quota for each job that you have to do. Always keep in mind that you are privileged to be your own boss so do not ruin your own business with your “maniana” habit.
Working from home will make you realize that somehow, it sets you free from the time table of your boss and co-workers in the sense that you can do your job anytime you like. But as it was mentioned earlier BE MINDFUL OF DEADLINES. It sets your mind free if you could give output on the deadline, but it will give you joy when you have managed to give an output ahead of time. Finishing job days or even weeks before the due date will give you time to check and even improve your output.
Lastly, work with your heart. Love your job and enjoy what you do. Realize that it is so good to stay at home working and earning. Be thankful for each new day and never cease praying for better days to come. Be glad to serve even if you have to stay at home and never forget to thank God every day.

Of The Ripples, Covid19 and The Koi Fish

And so, I am back. I could not stop my self from smiling right now. Maybe the Community Quarantine, whether “enhanced”, “general” or “modified”, has made me realize that I have been giving all my time blogging for other sites, yet The Ripples of Koi has been on “super” enhanced community quarantine since I do not even know when. Thanks to those who missed me… and thanks to those who will start reading again.

The Covid19 has truly taken its toll on all of us, from our home to the world. We could feel its ill effects, not to mention, the anxiety and grief it has given us. It's been months since we lived like hermits and feeling the threat each time we go out of our homes. Yet we are here today, still living life, staying courageous despite the chaos.

At this time of our life, somehow we may have come to realize so many things that are so vital yet we failed to appreciate before the saga of Covid19.

Since the quarantine has led me to think of and miss my own blogging site, let me share with you this enlightenment that somehow kept us going and the things that we learn from life at this point in time, and the blessings that these trying times have brought upon us.

We are once again reminded that we do not own our life. In a blink of an eye, it could be altered or be taken from us. Yet we are all blessed with the understanding of living each day like there is no tomorrow. We remembered the value of spending quality time with our loved ones, we are reminded of the significance of seizing the day to make our loved ones feel important and needed. We are more aware of the importance of taking care of ourselves and one another.

That we can choose to rise or fall to any occasion. There are people who relentlessly complained out of anxiety and discomfort, yet there were people who have chosen to create opportunities for themselves and their loved ones at this time of crisis. We can see people who lost their jobs or people who did not have enough income or no income at all, because they were on a no work no pay rule. This was the time when we started seeing the complainers and the doers. The doers definitely had the attitude of real winners. We see them creating jobs for themselves. And honestly, I enjoyed ordering homemade delicacies and other stuff from my friends who acted like winners even at the worst of times.

That there are unknown heroes among us. We see them every day, talk about the doctors, the nurses, and other members of the medical team. Talk about the policemen, our national and local government officials, the garbage collectors, the mall employees, and the unknown people who were there to help in every way they can. Think about our imperfect government, that no matter inadequate they may seem for some, they are still doing what they can to keep us safe and somehow overcome the grim that is upon us.

That even in the darkest times, no matter how much some people give their best, there will always be imperfections. And at the midst of an almost perfect or simply imperfect help that they share, there will be people who will NEVER LEARN TO APPRECIATE THE GOOD. There will always be killers of goodness and emphasizers of the bad. There will always be complainers who unknowingly torture their own soul because of focusing on what is ugly. And there will be the thankful ones, who know how to appreciate even the smallest drop of grace and hope in times of darkness, they are the ones who harbor the smallest light that could brighten the world up, if only there were no obstacles called “the killers of goodness”. At this time, we learn that we could choose to appreciate and invigorate our own life or complain and keep our souls in total darkness.

That no matter how much help we could get, it is our own choices and priorities that will determine our future. It is sad to see people being helped and even being given cashouts, just because they are considered as the less fortunate or even indigents. Yet they make poor choices of gambling or choosing to have a physical aesthetic done using the cash doled out to them. At the brighter side, there are people who started creating a new source of income for them and their loved ones out of the money doled out to them. It is vital to choose to be wise enough to create our own opportunities for better living while there are still people willing to help. It is not the help that makes us who and what we are in the future, it is what we do with it that creates our substance as a person and decide our tomorrows.

That gratefulness helps us to overcome obstacles because it kindles our hope and happiness. This is the time when we see people who know how to be thankful for the little blessings. It gives them a positive mind to think clearly and do what is right even in times when they have to grope in the dark.

That we are no supermen nor wonder women, no matter how powerful we are, no matter how much we own or even if we feel like we own the world, we can NEVER control everything. Yet we learned the value of entrusting our future to the One who has given us all. We realized that at the time of crisis such as Covid19, when we are at war to something we are not familiar of, to something we could not see… we learn the value of kneeling in prayers. We are reminded of the One who has taken care of us since the time of our conception.

These are just a few of the realizations I have come to appreciate at this difficult time. Let us be reminded once again my co-creators of ripples to behave and be resilient like the koi fish who manage to swim upstream a waterfall, no matter how turbulent it is. At this point in time, we can choose to be like the koi fish. We can choose to swim in this ocean of life no matter what the obstacles are because it is in the darkest times that we can see new opportunities and it is at this time that we can learn how far our own light can go. Let us always keep in our hearts, that if He who created us all, has blessed the koi fish to be so courageous, it is US who are made of His own image that should be more courageous and who are more willing to continue a positive journey in life. Let Him be the sturdy shelter that keeps us going. Believing and really knowing in our hearts that His love and grace will NEVER FAIL to keep us safe and see us through even in our darkest hours, always keeping in mind that we can create our own ripples of hope no matter what lies ahead.

I am still smiling… and now, with a very thankful heart to the HANDS THAT MADE US ALL.

"Simpleng Pinay" Lending A Big Hand With Her Simple Ways

Hello, friends and angels! It’s been quite a very long time since my last blog… I really missed blogging BIG TIME! I am so glad to be back and hopefully to write blogs as much as I did in the past (fingers tightly crossed...) At this moment I am more than just proud and excited to bring you another extraordinary Filipino who makes me REALLY proud to be a Filipina. I am honored and so blessed to present to you a very hard working asset oat a high government office, who manages to be extraordinary on the job, but is able to be a good “mother figure” to her most loved friend and baby, “Peso” and at the same time having the heart to lend a helping hand and promote the beauty and excellence of our very own country with the use of her talent in writing.

An article writer contributor at “Animal Scene” – a magazine published by the “Manila Bulletin”,a web content provider at HubPages and a Presidential Management Staff. Ladies and gentlemen, let me present to you a very talented and charming Filipina and a very good friend, MISS MARIA CECILIA ARROGANTE.

Miss Macel, as her friends and love ones fondly call her has been featured in “Imbestigador” on 2008, another time in “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” on 2010 and has also been invited to be a guest speaker by Hobbes and Lobbes to talk about her article about Dog Photography.

Here’s my little interview with this wonderful Pinay, who has gained so much respect with her enthusiasm for life.

Me: You have so much responsibilities, besides holding a position on a high government office, you manage to blog, take care of your dogs like they are your kids and you even have time to write for Animal Scene, how do you keep with it?

Miss Macel: I am trying to balance everything. If I am at work, it's only work and as much as possible; I don't bring work at home, or extend my time at work but never really bring work at home. I always prioritize if there is too much work to do; I set aside Animal Scene and Hubpages. My job is still my priority because it is my bread and butter and it's the reason why I can provide for my hobbies (blogging and photography) and my dogs. This year, I only had two articles published by Animal Scene, January and April pa yun, when things are gettilng light at work I started with my other articles. Actually I was working with two stories before I left for Singapore, now I need to recall my momentum, medyo tapos na medyo improvement na lang. When it comes to animal scene kasi, I really make it a point that I am confident with the stories and arrangement ng sentences ko, matindi pa rin ang editing sa print eh. I only write for Hubpages naman, whenever I have too much spare time, it depends on my mood especially if I have no stories for Animal Scene in mind. Basta ang rule ko ay prioritization - work first, then Animal Scene, then Hubpages. I won't write for Hubpages until I submit one article for Animal Scene. About my dogs naman before and after my work, it's definitely about them already. I won't go to work without bringing them to walk in the morning and then feed them before I leave. Then when I arrive home in the evening, I make sure that we spend time to stroll again, then feed them then kaunting play then sleep. Saturdays and Sundays is for them also. There are some cases when I need to break the rules that is when one of the dogs is sick, I may take a leave from work... ganun lang kasimple buhay ko, I don't go out that much. I go out of town or out of the country pero madalang yun. But whenever I have to take some time out or leave the country, I make sure someone will take care of my dogs, and it's my rule na 2 to 3 days lang ako pwedeng mawala (laughs) My dog Peso has this attitude of refusing to eat whenever he senses that I will be out for days.

Me: You have blogged so much about myriad things on your site at Hubpages, what are your favorite topics that may somehow help people especially the Filipinos?

Miss Macel: My favorite topic is always about dogs, especially when it comes to Peso's ailment and that is Perineal Hernia. I always make it a point to answer queries kasi it's a rare case for dogs. When Peso was just starting to have it, except for the internet and veterinarian, I had no other source of information. Deep within me I felt like I needed to talk to someone who can talk to me and understand what I am feeling. So I decided to document my dog's ailment so that I can answer queries for dog owners like me, and it worked though there are some who never update me after answering them, there are some who became my friends and we keep updating each other. My next favorite is featuring the restaurants where I dined in. Obviously I love to eat, and I wish that my hubs about resto's may help some people decide where to go. And I love writing about my favorite Korean actress, and I do this for her fans like me… actually some of her fans has already become my friends! (laughs).Then my fourth favorite is featuring places where I have been because I want to promote the best places in our country… although I really don't consider myself nationalistic, I still wish to show to the world the beauty of the Philippines by writing about it, kahit marami nang writers ang gumagawa nito. (laughs)

Me: What or who inspires you to write?

Miss Macel: My definition of who inspires me to write is like who I like to write about always (laughs) - My dog Peso always inspires me to write. I guess you know that story that my first break in writing was my article about him which was entitled “My Dog Has Perineal Hernia” which was published by Animal Scene in 2008. Then Korean Actress Hajiwon, I like her beauty, parang may pagkapinay, and she's a good actress, family oriented, and still single. Sila yung main inspiration ko for writing, though I am thinking I should thank Someone above as my main inspiration, for HE is the reason why I have this gift, tingin ko this is what He wants me to do but di ko pa nagagamit in ways that he really wanted me to.

Me: You seem to be passionate about writing, photography and of course, dogs... tell us anything about them.

Miss Macel: Writing, dogs and photography, are passions that originated since I was very young. I started writing poems in grade school, I already love dogs then. Same thing with photography, I started with 110 sizes of exposure (laughs)... I have lots of pictures with friends and they all thank me now because it made them really smile to see how they looked like during our younger years. I gave the whole album to my friend in Singapore, I told her to repackage it and have it scanned (laughs), I have done my job already so it's their turn.

Me: You have been featured in several television shows, tell us something about them.

Miss Macel: Sa “Imbestigador” on 2008 yata yun, after my dog Peso’s first surgery yun. The topic had nothing to do with his ailment, but more on showing someone who treats her dog very well and those who butchered dogs to sell the meat sa Baguio. The secondnd time I went out on TV last 2010 sa “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” was about Manila Zoo naman yun, they found me through Hubpages where I wrote about Manila Zoo and even posted photos there when I was younger. Di na nakasama si Peso dun kasi parang it was too tasking na, na after Manila Zoo babalik pa to Marikina to shoot Peso. Ok lang... (smiles) The third time I begged off na but instead I recommended my bestfriend's mom, sa ABS CBN naman ito kay “Matanglawin”, again they found me through Hubpages , where I wrote about cremation of the my dog Pissy. Medyo not so comfortable going out on screen (laughs) by the way yung sa Imbestigador, they found me thru my celar.blogspot.com so yung mga TV exposures because of my hubs and blogs ko lang ako natutunton and most of the time iyan yung mga di ko matanggihan because it has something to do with my writing. Because of Animal Scene too, Hobbes and Lobbes invited me to be a guest speaker and talked about my article na Dog Photography kaya I can say that writing did a lot for me- things that I did not expect to do.

Me: As a successful Filipina, what do you think is the foremost responsibility of each Filipina woman to herself and fellow Filipinos?

Miss Macel: Parang I don't consider myself successful yet... you think I am? Measure din ba ng success ang financial stability? If yes, in that case I don't think I am successful (laughs). Siguro in a way I am successful though I consider myself still struggling with my present job. I guess I am successful because I am happy with what I am doing. I am happy that I can write and there are people that I really do not know and yet approached me and told me that they have read my articles. Those things are making me feel high and forget my inadequacies in life. To me, it's my responsibility to make my life better and happier always. I should pamper myself always and should take care of my health, eat healthy food and right diet. I am dieting right now. I guess I could help my fellow Filipinos with my own little ways like showing them good example as tohow to be a good dog owner. I wish I could show people how to follow rules but I know I am not perfect and in fact disobey some rules sometimes, pero sa akin lang as long as you are happy and comfortable and you don't hurt or bother anyone, then you are always on a right track.

Me: Lastly, what is your advice for the Filipina women who would love to enjoy life better?

Miss Macel: Always do things that can make you happy, because when you are happy with what you do, you don't get bored waiting for financial advances or incentives. Always focus also in everything you do, in my case I really did well whenever I chose to keep quiet and concentrate in my job whenever I am in my office. And lastly Jen, words of wisdom, don't get a pet just because you are sad, or in case you think a pet can make you happy at least be responsible.

After that talk with this extraordinary Filipina, I have learned things that I would love to impart with my readers. These are:

With our daily struggle to be responsible with the things and responsibilities that we have to face every day, we really need the courage to keep up and prioritize.
We should never rely on others, even to our pets to give us happiness- because happiness lies within us, and we only realize that when we know how to show how much we love others.
Humility is always a vital ingredient to success. Miss Macel is really a very humble Filipina, some Filipina women who somehow manage to climb a little step towards success act as if they own the world, yet this successful Filipina remains so down to earth despite her achievements.
One of the greatest gifts that we can give not only to others but especially to ourselves is the ability to share our talents in ways that we can also lend a hand to the people that get by and spend some time with what we create. Miss Macel’s articles have not made her happier just because it has taken her on the screen, but it has actually made her feel so blessed that her talent in writing have given some vital information to others and even some form of realization that animals need the kind of loving care that some fail to give them.

Now, isn’t Miss Macel an epitome of a Filipina that we all should look upon? Be proud of who you are, make your hobbies be a worthwhile thing that can help others… because simple ways may give big helpful results. Yan ang Pinay!

Meet Miguel De Guzman - Your "Picture" Perfect Pinoy!

Oh, I am really hating my self for taking a very long time to post this blog. Honestly, I was supposed to publish this months ago, yet I was not able to do so due to so many circumstances beyond my control. But anyway, so much about that. I just feel so excited to share with you my very first issue on "Proud to be Pinoy!"

Of course, I have always been proud to be a Filipina... yet there are these people who make me more grateful for being one. Gentlemen, and (especially) ladies, I am proud to present to you Mr. Miguel De Guzman whose own love and talent for photography has made him dominate the world of soulful and wonderfully taken works of art in digital photography.

Born and raised as a pure Filipino who knows the value of family, he is known to his younger siblings to be a very sweet, loving and supportive kuya. He graduated from Lorma Colleges in San Fernando City La Union as one of the best students in their batch. He eventually landed great jobs and soon he was sent to Indonesia. He has gained so much achievements in his life and as of the moment, he is hailed as one of the most outstanding photographers who somehow has dominated one of the most best performing digital magazine in Asia - the IMag Photoworld Magazine. His image was chosen to hail the cover of the magazine on May 2012 and some of his other images won several awards to this date.

So, let me share with you my little chit chat with this very talented Pinoy who made photography extraordinarily special for Filipinos.

Me: Good morning sir Mike! Thanks so much for giving me the chance for this online interview. We are just so proud to see a Pinoy Lormanian performing so well in photography. We see that the image on the cover of IMag for the May 2012 issue was taken by you. How was your photo discovered?

Miguel: I submitted some of my images to i-Mag website (www.imagphoto.com) hoping that one of my photographs would be published to their "Thousands Words" section. Luckily, one of my photo of Mount Fuji landed this column.The publisher notified me by email and asked if I have a "Star Trail" shot of the mountain. Luckily, I did...and so I made cover.

Me: Were you interested in photograpy as a child?

Miguel: No. As I child, I was more interested in music, dancing and science. As far as I can remember, I didn't have talent in visual arts…although I did try to learn how to draw.

Me: What made you start taking phtos?

Miguel: Out of boredom, I guess. After four years of living in Indonesia, I had to adjust again to the life in the Philippines when I got transferred last 2010. I had nothing to do on weekends and so I tried all sorts of hobbies to keep me occupied.A friend invited me to try Landscape Photography. I did…and I fell in love with it!

Me: Do yu have any professional trainings or seminars related to photography?

Miguel: Yes. I joined a group called "Guided by Light" which specializes in Landscape Photography. We had a two-day workshop last June of 2011 in Pangasinan. After that, I cannot stop myself from shooting landscapes. I got addicted with it so to speak.

Me: What or who inspires you to take photos, and what images are your favorite to put into focus in your craft?

Miguel: When I got deeply involved in Landscape Photography, it became a way of life for me. Whenever I get the chance, I wake up early to shoot the sunrise, stay under the sun at noon to shoot Infrared photos, wait for the afternoon to shoot the sunset and even stay late to shoot the stars.Before, simple things like these that are with me everyday are almost unnoticed…just an everyday phenomenon. Now, I get excited for every sunset and sunrise because I won't know what Mother Nature will give me to visually enjoy. In the past, I don't like spending time under the sun for any reason. Now, I love it when the sun is high because it is favorable for my Infrared Photography. By the way, this is the flavor of Landscape Photography that I want to be good at.My point is that, I learned to appreciate the creation of God more as I take photographs. I don't get tired of witnessing His creation at the start and at the end on a particular day. It is a miracle to have such a beautiful world. I want to share the same passion to others. This is what inspires me.

Me: Thanks so much sir Mike! I am so honored to have this chance to talk with you.

Miguel: Sure no problem.

At the end of our conversation, I started to admire this very talented bachelor much more, not just because of his amzing photogrphy but also his ability to appreciate the gifts of life that we do not really have the heart to be thankful for everyday. Aside from that, this very talented Pinoy is so humble as I could see in our conversation, he's very simple and very down to earth despite the fact that he has so many things to be proud of.

Pope's Butler Under Arrest - DID A "SPY" REALLY ENTER THE VATICAN?

This is really a shocking news! Pope Benedict's personal butler was arrested who allegedly "stole" essential documents from the Vatican files. According to the latest news which was aired earlier last Friday, the Pope's personal butler whom he trusted and has taken cared of his every need was believed to have stolen some secret documents from the Vatican, and allegedly "leaked" secret vital information, is now suspected to be a "spy" and is now detained.

For the first time in history, this true to life experience reminds us of some fiction that the Vatican have detested some years back. It gives me chills, because this sounds familiar, right? Anyone who have read the famous and most talked about book by DAN BROWN and the "detested" movie in 2006 which starred TOM HANKS (as Robert Langdon) and AUDREY TAUTOU (as Sophie Neveu), entitled the "DA VINCI CODE" would feel some kind of enormous chills... maybe coupled by some ridicule or even ridiculous thoughts. Here is a short review of the famous movie:

Of course, we should always remember that anyone who is a suspect and is now detained is not guilty unless proven otherwise by law through legal practice and proceedings. The butler, however, is believed to be "used" as a "scape goat" by some people who are of higher rank than him for "some actions" that "could allegedly harm" the stability of Vatican. Whatever it is that has truly happened, no conclusion have been stated up to now, only speculations. It makes me wonder with curiousity... could there be true to life "Sir Leigh Teabing" who is using the butler like "Silas"...? Happy Sunday everyone!

LOL! This one reminded me when I was a little kid, and how my mom used to say, “Hey, if you three want to fight, go yell at each other outside, anyway, we don’t take care of you just to kill each other!”… And me and my siblings would stop arguing, look at each other and pretend that we are not about to laugh. That was how our mom would make us stop arguing ~ “reverse psychology” at its best, and everything will be back in peace and order in our lovely home.

How I miss being a kid… I would love to spend those humorous days again that have molded me into a more mature adult. These things may make us laugh, but we can never deny the fact that our moms who often said these “funny” little things have influenced us much more than we could imagine.

On a more serious note, let me share what my own mom has taught me. I could mention just a few, but I hope I could touch the very heart of every child that I hope will always appreciate his own mom no matter how much he age. Here are some of the things that my mother taught me:

She taught me how to be more than just physically beautiful without giving out a single cent from my wallet…( errr… or from her own bank account by keeping in mind the following):

Exercising at least two to three times a week is a better pore cleanser than the deep pore cleansing treatment done monthly by one’s dermatologist, or than massaging one’s face with a pore cleanser everyday and then dabbing a toner after. Regular exercise does not only clean the pores of one’s face but all the pores in one’s body, aside from that it tones one’s muscles helping one to achieve a better figure and healthier body.
Sleeping naked is okay, but make sure that you do it in your own room ALONE. Lol! Of course I was still single when I heard this from my mom. This one helps our skin pores breathe, better than applying those soaps and skin cleansers that claim to help your skin breathe.
Forgiving and prayers are more rejuvenating than spending so much time and money at the spa. Forgiveness frees one’s heart from carrying baggage that is not essential in one’s own life struggle, and prayers keep one close to God who never lack anything, therefore, no prayerful being could ever lack anything as long as he keeps close to God and follow Him in every way he can. God provides everything we need so this thought will make us carefree and more relaxed lessening one’s chance to have unwanted wrinkles. Having the heart to forgive and knowing that one is secured in HIS own loving care rejuvenates one’s mind, soul and spirit. Aside from that, it lessens one’s chance to acquire any illness that day to day stresses could cause. She says, these are the secrets for looking younger than your age too! Hehe!

She taught me that the art of being liked starts with truly liking what I really am and that pretending to be someone I am not will just make me miserable.
She taught me how to choose clothes that flatter my (according to her) assets and remain respect worthy even to people that I pass by.
She taught me when not and when to use a fuschia pink lip color. ;)
She taught me how to be assertive without being aggressive.
She taught me how to tell the truth even if it will hurt big time because it is better to feel bad as long as one knows the truth than to be happy with lies.
She taught me to pretend to be dumb when people starts to abuse my rights, but use all the knowledge that I have when they start to abuse my "goodness". lol!
She taught me to fight fair and square and that wearing a "bullet proof" belt is just for soldiers who deal with real bullets, guns and bombs.
She taught me that talking behind the back of others makes me pathetic.
She taught me to be humble because every people who come and go in my life, good or bad are the people who made me what I am today.
She showed me that the adage that says, "Rude people are like sandpapers, they rub you hard but they end up useless and you become polished because of them..." is true.
She taught me to giv a good fight as long as you know that you are on the right side.

Of course, there are much more than these that my mom taught me, but there is one thing that I will never stop keeping in my heart and mind- she will always be the BEST mom in the world who taught me how to live with grace and courage through the good and the bad just by living a life that is worthy of all the prestige and honor that anyone could give. My mom has not given me all the best material things that a daughter would wish to have, but she has shown me a good, dignified and prestigious life not every mother could show their children. She lives with principles and values that she teaches her children just by living by them - no lectures nor learning sessions needed.

To my loving mom, thank you for showing me how to live with dignity. To have a good life without taking advantage of others, for showing me how to forgive and learn from what cause me pain. For showing me how to keep calm especially in times when my rights are trampled to the extent of looking like a fool yet showing me how to fight back with courage and dignity when these people seem to never stop because they think that I am a fool just because I don’t fight back. Whatever and whoever I am now is more of my mom’s workmanship. I will always live up to what she has taught and gave me. Most people would say, “You are just like your mom…” and I smile back, at the back of my mind I would say to my self, “I hope to be just like my mom…” =)

Who does not love Havaianas? Oh, if you don't, then your feet misses 3/4 of comfort that it craves! "Havaianas" is a Portuguese language which means "Hawaiians". Their flip flop manufacture started out in Hawaii in the year 1962 with their own original designs derived from the serene design of Japan. They never failed to stand out with their 100% rubber formula which remains a "secret" exclusive only for Havaianas up to this moment and each design they make is inspired by the exuberant colors and great culture of the Hawaiians. From then, Havaianas became the ORIGINAL CHILD OF EASTERN ZEN and the undefeated EASTERN JOY.

Today, we are about to celebrate 50 years of HAVAIANAS giving comfort to every step anyone who wears it all over the world. Hurray to Havaianas who live up to their promise for the best STYLE, COMFORT, LUXURY and never failing to give us POSITIVE ENERGY. It is a part of our daily struggle with life... and hey, simple things as flip flops make our day to day busy life easier to manage, right?

In connection with their 50 years celebration, Havaianas Philippines launched the MAKE YOUR OWN HAVAIANAS 2012 (a. k. a MYOH2012) last May 10, 2012 at the ROCKWELL TENT which started at 10am and goes on onwards until May 14, 2012. The launch of this celebration was attended by people from the mass media, celebrities, models, businessmen and people from almost all walks of life. Great food were served with style accompanied with comfort that tickled every taste buds... just like what the feet enjoys when we use the best flip flops! Oh, of course, we all love Havaianas!

Who Is The HATER Now?

Oh, I am laughing… every time I log in to a social networking site, I seem to notice that almost every day, some people would post and share something or anything about “HATERS”. Hey, what are “haters” anyway, and what are they made of? Are we really their “victims” or are we just enjoying to pretend that the people we call our “haters” really hate us so much?

Haters according to the urban dictionary are people who simply cannot be happy for another person's success. They develop a strong dislike for another by just basing from their own opinion on personal or subjective judgment rather than objective merit. A hater's contempt commonly arises from jealously, resentment and denial that some people could be much better than them. TAKE NOTE though that people who hate others for JUSTIFIED reason can NEVER be LEGITIMATELY classified as haters, although some people try so hard to justify their immature tendencies by doing so.

So, how can we identify haters? Take note that according to JASON COOLEY a Yahoo Network contributor, haters do not necessarily hate you, but they hate you doing better than them. Their official creed is, “I wish you well just don’t do better than me.” Does that sound familiar to you? LOL! Oh, it sounds so familiar to me. *Sometimes identifying a hater can be hard because the hater is often someone who has been close to you for a long time and is in your close circle of friends. The hater is often someone who you think highly of because they have been right there for you whenever you were down and out. You must think hard about these times and wonder if they were there to seriously help you or is it possible that they were there when things were bad because they secretly enjoyed seeing you down? … So, now I am laughing really really hard!!! Wahahahaha!

Here are the *“signs and symptoms” of being a HATER:

Haters do not want you to be happy, your happiness is their own poison… like a lethal injection that runs so fast in their blood so they try so hard to find ways to put you down by inventing negative stories about you.
Haters roam around talking to every people they could deceive and make them believe of the fictional stories they make and of course, the number one villain is no other than YOU. Take note, THEIR STORY IS AUTHENTICALLY FICTIONAL… wehehehe! Oh, I love that!
Haters stories of you as the villain makes you look so crazily desperate, but unknowingly, the people who are intelligent enough to analyze and get the chance to listen to the hater’s “masterpiece” knows inside their head how desperate the storyteller (a. k. a The Hater) is. Hmmmmm… so pathetic! You know damn well, stories like your own lawyer would put you inside your own room right inside your own house because you acted immaturely crazy???! Does the story fit? Oh, come to think of this: Even hired lawyers by real criminals will not allow their own clients be put to jail. LMAO! Hihihi! Laugh, laugh, laugh… Come on, your own slip of the tongue irregularities are manifestations of your own lying habits, or is that really your hobby?!... lol!
Haters claim that the people they hate are putting them down just because they do not have some things like wealth, education or anything under the sun that they crave yet you have them. Hey, hey, hey, lines like “Oh, you put me down just because you are…. And I am just…” sounds so familiar. Analyze the line, and you could interpret that these people hate you for something you have that they could not just grab. This is not just a sign of being a hater, it is also a sign of self insufficiency and insecurity.
They hate you because they claim that you trample their own human rights… yet they do not realize that they are trampling on other people’s rights too. Lines like “Hey you are getting my sandwich!” being shouted at you while they are getting from your own lunch box! LOL!
Haters are people who seek God’s forgiveness but they manifest a character and even verbalize their own inability to forgive others. They choose to live in misery because they take care and give so much value to hatred in their hearts and of course they would love you to be miserable as they are. So what they do is provoke you to hate them too so that they could tag you as their own haters, even declaring you as their “fans” to satisfy their insecure ego. Oh, by the way, fans are people who look up to you because you are worthy of their respect. And let us go back to the legitimate definition of a hater, that one can never classify anyone who hates them as a “hater” if a person hates them for some justified and warranted reasons. “JUSTIFIED” is the word, justified means proven, matured, and legitimate reasons that provoked some people to hate others. An example is a very good evidence with legitimate people to prove that this or that person has been or is gossiping some crazy lies about you… oh, but never mind, forgive this “author” of your fiction stories, because he is just violating your morality and you could introduce them how much "moral damages" really weigh in your own country’s applications of law on the civil code. And even the lawyer whom he is accusing to have locked you in your own room right in your own house could sue him for accusing him of a thing that he has not done..Hek hek hek!!!! And whatever your "stories" are, wait til this hater sees himself on a large image reflector of what really happened on the day he is claiming that you were "locked" by your own lawyer in your own room. Oh, what kind of lawyer is that? No lawyer who truly passed the BAR EXAMINATION and who is in his good presence of mind would do that to his own client unless he would wish to lose his own client or his hard earned license. lol! What a shame to the one who talks of this hearsay.

So now, we have a little bit of what haters are… SO, WHO IS THE HATER NOW? Keep this in mind, YOU ARE DEFINED BY YOUR OWN ACTIONS AND WORDS, no matter how you define who and what you are made of, YOUR OWN ACTIONS AND VERBAL EXPRESSIONS ARE UNCONSCIOUS MANIFESTATIONS OF SHOUTING TO THE WORLD WHO AND WHAT YOU REALLY ARE.

How to Keep Your WIFE HAPPY (For Good Husbands... and Wives Too)

“… I wish I could have five lives. Then I could have been born in five different towns, and eaten five times’s worth of food, and had five different careers, and fallen in love with THE SAME PERSON FIVE TIMES…” This is a quote sent to me through a text message from a good friend few days ago, and it made me laugh and think twice. Would a married man tell these things whole heartedly after marrying the woman he fell in love with?

Most of the time, I can hear my guy buddies complain about their wives being insensitive and how much they have changed after marriage. I laugh and say that, most (if not all) married women are asking those same questions. As the old adage says, “Men are from Mars, women are from Venus…” the two genders will never ever really understand each other as much as they want to.

I know that I am not in the right position to suggest things that may alleviate the burdens of these married men. As one of those women from Venus, I honestly don’t know how to understand men as much as I would like to. So I humbly admit that all I could do to give a little help for my buddies and to some husbands out there is to remind them again what truly makes a woman happy.

Gone are the days when you were both care free and could spend all the time being alone since your first child was born. And as naturally as other married people, you can always watch so many things that seem to change, like her mood that used to be so jolly and loving turned into being rude. She may also be feeling tired and exhausted most of the time that you slowly feel like you are her last priority. Before you worry so much about the “evolution” of an adorable woman into a horrible monster, think twice. Here are a few things to keep in mind to at least understand your loving wife:

Marriage has given both of you new tasks and responsibilities, this means that both of you should adjust and make compromises if necessary.

If you worry that your wife is becoming physically ugly, analyze why. She might not have so much time to take care of herself because she puts the needs of your kids and yours her first priority before her own.

Being a single woman is so much easier than being a mom and wife, so if she starts to show some mood swings, or starts being rude, realize that she may need more of your attention and needs to communicate, or she might need some time alone.

Many (if not all) husbands manifest alterations from adorable to being a “monster” without them realizing it. So, before wondering why your wife is becoming a fearsome monster, be wary of your unconscious evolution too. You might be one of the causes of your wife’s horrible behavior.

Make your wife HAPPY…

For husbands who are burdened with their wife’s “monstrous evolution”, be reminded that women can be truly happy with the little things that men do. We don’t really need the most expensive diamond with the best cut or the finest flower arrangements.

Here are a few ways to make your wife happy and for you to enjoy once again her beauty and grace that made you say “I do.” :

Stay with her and communicate, not just to hear but to listen. Most of the time, women just want someone that they can talk to, especially about their fears or just about anything. And most married women would prefer their husband to listen to them. Being listened to is far more meaningful than just being heard. Let us be reminded once again that listening is about paying attention on what others are saying and taking them into account, while merely hearing is just being aware on what others have to say without understanding with the heart. Women want to be understood. Most of the time, you don’t even have to say your opinion, just listen with your heart and be thoughtful to hug her after she talks.

Be sensitive when you are having a day off from work and change more diapers. When your child has a dirty diaper, don’t rely to your wife to change it all the time. Whenever time and space can allow you, do it for your wife and she will be very thankful.

Surprise her. No, you don’t need to buy some fancy stuff to do this. You can just get a sticky note pad, write things from your heart, or just a simple “I love you… have a great day ahead. Take loads of care!” note and placed somewhere where you are sure that she can find. Your wife will be so happy and yearn for the afternoon to come for you to be together again. You will have a big hug and a kiss instead of the usual bad mood or whinny statements that most husbands complain of. You may even have a hearty dinner together with the family, instead of opening canned goods because she feels so tired to cook.

Let her know that you are alright especially when you need to go out of town. Don’t forget to call her to tell her not to worry because you are okay. And if you do so, be sure that you are REALLY okay. And don’t forget to say “I love you” from the heart before hanging up.

If your wife has a job, visit her at her working place from time to time. You can bring some flowers or just invite her for lunch. She will soon be the envy of her co- workers for having a thoughtful and sweet husband, and as they tell her all these compliments, she will realize much more how much she has been blessed to have you for a husband. Sometimes, we all need constant reminders that we have wonderful husbands.
If your wife stays full time in the house, make her happy by helping her enjoy her hobbies much more and give her opportunities to make her own money. I love to make hand crafted jewelries and other things as such, and I love to write. So when my husband and I decided that I have to be a full time mom and wife, he bought and put up necessary materials so that I could enjoy doing my hobbies, and helped me make money out of them. This simple act of love enhances your wife's creativity, as well as her self esteem and even helps her stay away from boredom and depression. Aside from that, it gives her the chance to make extra cash even if she is not employed while enjoying all her time with you and the kids.

Hire a house helper if needed once a week or more often to keep your nest clean and comfortable. Help your wife with the household chores. Take note that doing this will get all the chores done faster and that means more time for you and the kids to bond together.

Say, “I love you” whenever she says the same. Women say these words from the heart and your wife deserves something equally affectionate. Never respond with “I know,” or other things like, “Thanks”.

NEVER compare her with other women. You married her because she is one of a kind, and make her feel that she is special because she is unique.

Take care of your kids as a “father” not the “baby- sitter”.

PLEASE DO NOT say bad words, especially when your kids are near enough to hear it. Your wife won’t be pleased to hear her 4 year old kid say the b***s*** words.

Never learn to forget to maintain your proper hygiene like you did when you were still a bachelor. Most husbands complain that their wife is becoming untidy and ugly, never realizing that they are undergoing the same transformation.

Watch your diet as much as you like your wife to watch hers.

Encourage your wife to bond with her good girl buddies. Let her go on a girl’s night out once in a while. She will thank you for that.

Never forget to give her a deep, slow, long and loving kiss. You never failed to do that when you were dating, now that you can do it anytime you like, do it whole heartedly again, and AGAIN… and AGAIN.

Keep in mind, the best things in life are FREE. I can still remember when I first used a hand bag to work which was given to me by my husband. One of my co- workers said, “Wow, I like your bag… where did you buy that?” and I answered, “I don’t know, my husband bought it for me.” And almost all of my married co- workers said, “Oh, you are so lucky to have a thoughtful husband...” I just said, “Oh, yes I am…” Deep in my heart, I know that I am really blessed for having a very thoughtful husband, not because of the bag or any material things that he has given me. What came to my mind that moment are the days that we spent eating street foods while we take a walk down town… I most treasure the companionship he gives as we hold hands eating the cheapest food in town! And at this moment, I know, that if I could have FIVE LIVES, I WILL CHOOSE TO FALL IN LOVE FIVE TIMES TO THE MAN I MARRIED.

.... for WIVES TOO

Of course, there are many more ways to keep your wife happy. And I bet you know it better than me… Hey, she is YOUR WIFE you know her much more than anyone else does (aside from her parents maybe… lol!). Every day, keep in your heart and mind why you married her.

Errrr… I guess I have to address the wives out there too. Your husbands are struggling as much as you do, so as much as they like to keep you happy, try to make them feel the same. Try the tips above, and add up your own tricks.

“The best gift that a father can give to his children is to love their mother…” We have all heard this before… but can we make it this way, “The best way to show your kids that you love them is to love one another through the good and the bad…” For all married women, please do not put all the loads to your husbands, share the load with them and you will both be happy. Hey, husbands, please do the same! Have a joyful family life!

Halo- halo De Iloko 8th. Year Anniversary Summary of Events

April 18, 2012 marked Halo- halo De Iloko's 8th. Year Anniversary. As part of the celebration, the management have started their art show entitled, "Ninuno ArtShow at Halo- halo De Iloko" last March 20, 2012. The art show aims to promote paintings and art works by Filipino artists, among them are some paintings of the renowned artist Dong Ilay who designed Halo- halo De Iloko's souvenir t- shirts. The art exhibit will culminate on the 22nd of April 2012.

Halo- halo De Iloko - More Than Just Your "Halo- halo"...

One of the most memorable places that I frequently visit years back is this one cool place called “Halo- halo De Iloko”. It was located at the heart of the town of San Fernando, La Union a few walks away from St. William’s Cathedral. I can still remember its ambiance the first time I visited way back in 2005, when it was barely a year old. It was a small place but I enjoyed my stay with my co- clinical instructor friends, the interior design was exotic as compared to other restaurants in the city, very original and cozy and the halo- halo had a distinct taste that I wanted to visit the place as often as I could just to have a taste of it.

Years have passed since then, and now, I got another chance to visit the place. They are now at their new location at 12 Zandueta St. San Fernando, La Union - which is still at the heart of the city a few walks from St. William’s Cathedral. The interior design was way better than what was once, it has more than just an exotic effect; it has a more homey touch. The temperature soared high that day, so I decided to order their halo- halo. I was excited, and I ordered just the original and regular halo- halo since I knew from the start how good it tasted. The friendly waitress asked me if I would add up some ice cream, and I said no. Laughing out loud inside, I knew I would feel very satisfied with the halo- halo they call “regular” at their menu list… yet it is so “special” in my mind… lol!

By the way, this day was also very special for me and my husband since I have asked for a scheduled interview with any of the “Halo- halo De Iloko” admin staff and I was so lucky enough to be given the chance for it.Well... I felt lucky when they said "yes" but I felt so blessed the time I was informed by miss Chrisme (one of the restaurant's personnel) that I will be given the chance to interview Mr. Xavier B. Mercado! Yes- the same Xavier Mercado who manage and owns the place! Isn't that lovely?! He was just like any other gentleman who wore clean jeans and t- shirt, a very down to earth person... yet we all know that he had so much to brag about. Why not? This young gentleman who is able to maintain a happy and healthy family with a very lovely wife and adorable two kids is also able to manage one (if not the best) of the best performing establishments in Region 1. A graduate of A. B Mass Communications major in Journalism and Broadcasting from the University of Cordilleras, who also finished his Master of Arts in Mass Communications. He had the chance to be employed by ABS- CBN as he took up some units in Teaching and who once dreamed of interviewing popular people from the entertainment and business industries.

Sir Xavier said, the "Halo- halo De Iloko" had humble beginnings. His dad and mom were so nervous as he decided to put up a business since their family line did not have any experience putting up a business of their own. He said that only his late grand mom was engaged in business who was into selling "banig", vegetables and eventually tobaccos. He used to accompany his grandma at the public market to sell her goods until he had to stay in Baguio City to study. As he opened up his business, he had to make out of what he had, so he decided to borrow old furniture from his parents and some money from his friends. Way back in 2004, they only opened from 3pm to 7pm and earned Php1, 999 per day! Hey, that's good earning heh! =)

As of the moment, we all know that "Halo- halo De Iloko" is doing great. All recipes on its menu list is a product of the owner and his family's love for food. They serve all original menus that was taste tested by his loving wife and other family members who are all food lovers. The "OKOY TIKYOSKO" is derived from the original name of a Filipino delicacy which is made of squash, carrots, malunggay, shrimp and sprouted monggo but with a twist of an all original home made longganisa especially prepared by sir Xavier's mom that is why "tikyo" which is the nickname of sir Xavier is added to the recipe's name. All longganisa and longganisa tidbits are home made by sir Xavier's mom and all recipes are originally formulated by him and his loving wife. Oh, I just love their "EMPAREDADOS" which also has longganisa tidbits filling... and of course I could never stop dreaming of their "regular" halo- halo.

Their regular Halo- halo is so distinctively different, I don't need an ice cream to satisfy my taste buds!

The interior design of this place was conceptualized, planned and implemented by sir Xavier, it is of the ethnic kind, full of antiques with some images of his own family. Their new venue is formerly their family house. This place does not only offer those all original menus, but also the comfort of being at home, where in you can savor the goodness of his family's companionship and the hospitable ambiance provided by his personnel.

The college graduate who once dreamed of interviewing popular people of all walks of industries is now the owner of La Union's best, which is now visited by well known personalities and people who are looked up to from politicians to celebrities and businessmen. Sir Xavier Mercado is now the one being interviewed by the mass media.

Last April 18, 2012 (oh, that was yesterday... lol!) marked their 8th. year of serving their all authentic and original menus, with the loving sparks of their own family's hospitality. One thing I noticed that is really authentic which I only had the chance to enjoy at Halo- halo De Iloko is their very "family- like" way of mingling with their various clients. They are able to treat everyone who walks in their place they call "Balay" like a member of their family. And yes! I would love to call it my "Balay" too! Happy 8 years of being our second home, HALO- HALO DE ILOKO! We wish you hundred more years to spend with food lovers like us! And hey, I love food even more especially if it comes from Halo- halo De Iloko! Magpasarap na po tayo at La Union's FINEST! Cheers!

Hey! I can't help but share this "KALAMIAS JUICE" - a combination of Kamias and Kalamnsi juice, served with pure honey from Bacnotan La Union and "Pulitipot" (caramelized sugar from pure sugar cane). This was served to us during our visit at Halo- halo De Iloko. The "KALAMIAS JUICE" WILL BE INTRODUCED TO THEIR CLIENTS SOME TIME IN MAY 2012. Don't forget to try it as soon as it is available, take my word for it, it is very delicious and really refreshing! Aside from that, you get all of nature's natural benefits of honey and Vitamin C!

NORTH KOREA's Message to The United States (Only?...)

Although the launching of a massive missile by North Korea failed for lift off, there seem to be a violation of a vital International Agreement. Let us be reminded (or even be informed for some) that the North Korea has made agreement with Washington in the past month to stop Uranium enrichment and missile tests in exchange for the United States to deliver 240,000 tons of food to sustain their nation.

History will show us that many times before, the United States could not have so much to do about these activities which were and are still being done. This is a very alarming message to the most powerful nation in the world and a very strong message to all the regimes who are planning to start a nuclear program of their own.

The United States warned North Korea to stop the launch and President Barack Obama, warned that "treaties are binding. Rules will be enforced. And violations will have consequences." Lately, they have informed the world that the "consequences" might be the sudden decision of the United States that they will no longer deliver the food that they have agreed on in the past month, and this would leave the people of North Korea hungry. This is an evidence that they could let their whole nation suffer just to "put on" what the "few" have decided to put on.

Is this only a message to the United States that they could no longer be the most powerful nation, and Iran that they could go on with their own plans of their own nuclear programs? Or is this a message to the world? Is this something to show us all that some people can manipulate everyone because of innovations that some people call "for development" or "for their own nation's protection"... yet it could leave the whole world in danger, helpless and hungry (not only for food, but also for security) even of their own nation that they claim they long to "protect". Whatever the real reason is, what we all could see is some kind of world manipulation... or is it just me wondering why they have a budget for a nuclear program but have the need for an aid for food?

Stay Beautiful On A Budget

It is a reality that although we were brought up not to judge others with their physical appearance, we can’t deny the fact that physical appearance is the one thing that we see first in a person. It is the first thing that attracts or shoo us away. This may be one of the many reasons why beauty spa and skin care centers are sprouting like mushrooms.

Although everyone aspire to be physically attractive, not everyone is capable enough to pay for the services at the beauty care centers, or even buy the best beauty products there is in the market. Some may end up buying the products with the cheaper price and end up with unwanted results, like skin discolorations, allergies and many other skin alterations brought about by ineffective beauty products.
Aside from lack of budget, we may also lack time to make ourselves physically attractive. With this life’s trying times, 24 hours may not even be enough to do the chores and other more important responsibilities that we need to do everyday.

Being unable to have time and budget for staying and feeling beautiful may affect some people deeply. It may be heart breaking for some, and it may alter their own self perception. They may lose their confidence and feel bad about themselves.

On the bright side, there are many tricks that are cheaper or even free of charge to look good. The best part is, one can even do them without so much time or even with no alterations with their busy schedules.

Here are a few helpful tricks to look beautiful on a budget, and without sabotaging a busy schedule:

Start your day right.

If you don’t have time to exercise early in the morning, make sure to stretch before leaving your bed. Tense all your muscles for 10 seconds and relax after. You can do this 3 to 5 times and then rise.
Eat your breakfast to provide you with the much needed energy and stop you from being hungry later. Skipping your breakfast may cause hunger pangs that would cause you to eat much more than your body requirements during the day. This may lead to gaining unwanted weight. Eat this vital meal and make it a healthy one.

Beautify while you sleep.

NEVER use a cotton pillow. Cotton does not allow your face to glide freely whenever you move which causes sleep lines, this may in overtime cause permanent fine lines and wrinkles. Buy pillow cases which are made of silk or satins (buy the synthetic ones to stay on a budget). These fabrics enable your face to move freely so to avoid sleep lines. As much as possible, don’t sleep on a prone position so that you are not lying on your face.

Relieve stress while taking a shower.

As you shampoo, press the pads of your fingertips into your scalp in a circular motion,
along your hairline, around your ears, and up and down your scalp. Do not forget to massage your scalp, this does not only relax you but it will also take away oil at the roots of your hair.
While you soap your body, use a loofah sponge. It helps you relax and even rids you off of your dead skin cells.

Keep your hair shiny.

Shampoo your hair concentrating on the oiliest part which is the roots. Do not rub the ends of your hair for it may cause dryness. Condition concentrating on the midshaft to the end, do not concentrate on the roots because it is where your natural oils are concentrated and it does not need so much conditioning on that part. This will also prevent your hair from losing its volume. And will help in maintaining your hair style.Use a towel that is made of a microfiber to wrap your hair after shampoo. It absorbs moist faster which helps in avoiding long exposure to hair driers.

Know the best time to shave.

Do not stay longer than 3 minutes while you are in the shower before deciding to shave. Your hair may hide when your skin is soaked up on water beyond 3 minutes, this will make it harder for you to shave. Shave in the direction of hair growth first then again in the opposite direction. This will help prevent ingrown hair.

Keep a young looking hand.

The hands are where we can see visible early signs of aging. Don’t forget to wear protective gloves whenever you do household chores like house cleaning, washing your clothes, doing the dishes or whenever you cook as these activities exposes your hands to harsh chemicals and prolonged water exposure. Water expands your nail layers which cause splitting and chipping; prolonged water exposure also cause skin dryness and itching.
Moisturize whenever you wash. Massage cuticles with an olive oil which helps condition your cuticles and maintain your manicure. This may also help lessen your visits to your manicurist.

Know the best time to moisturize.

The best time to moisturize your skin is when it is still damp. This allows your skin to absorb more moisture compared to its absorption when it is completely dry. You can also heat up a handful of your lotion by setting your hair drier on a low and letting it blow on your lotion placed on your palm (Set your dryer on low and aim it down toward your palm, at least 3 inches away to avoid any mess). Heated lotion helps dilate your skin cells causing better moisture absorption. You will have a softer and silkier skin.

Get whiter teeth.

As much as possible, brush your teeth every after meals. If this is not possible, munch on a crunchy fruit or vegetable such as apples, and carrots. Munching on these goodies stimulates saliva production which is helpful in flushing away any particles that may stain your teeth.
Use a straw whenever you drink on some beverages that may stain your precious smile. Coffee, red wine, deep colored juices, and dark colored soda are just examples. You can also consider having clear or light colored drinks such as a clear soda, chamomile tea or the ever best drink which is water.
Every other day or even everyday, before you go to bed, use a pinch of baking soda together with your toothpaste when you brush to keep your teeth whiter. Most whitening toothpaste are more expensive.

Protect your skin from the sun.

Most, if not all premature aging is caused by the damaging rays of the sun. Use a sun block that protects you both from UVA and UVB rays. Sun blocks may be a little expensive but it is all worth it to put it on whenever you are exposed to the sun. It does not only protect you from premature aging but it also lessens your risk to have skin cancer.If your budget does not allow you to buy this skin essential, try saving a little every time you get your salary and in due time, you can buy a good sun block cream or lotion.

Use light colored umbrella and clothing when staying under the sun. The light color will reflect back the rays and thereby protecting you from its harmful effects.

Drink LOTS of water and get enough sleep.

It is a reality that we often forget the cheapest yet some of the best ways to looking great- Drinking enough water and getting enough sleep. So drink lots of water and get enough sleep as much as possible. These help rejuvenate our cells, which helps so much in attaining a more healthy and glowing skin.

Spend quality time.

The most vital to staying beautiful is to spend some quality time with your love ones, or just being by yourself doing things that you love to do. Most of all spend time in prayer. These activities rid you off stress which triggers the release of feel bad hormones that also speeds up your aging.

These are just common ways to stay young looking and beautiful but are sometimes overlooked upon because of the evolution of beauty products and enhancers that takes so much time to do and much money to spend. Time and again, it is always great to look back and realize that some how it is easy to be beautiful despite the everyday rush and the failing economy. Feel great and stay beautiful as you save money and time.

Mending A Soul (Forgive... and Forget?)

Every one of us have been in one way or another hurt by other people. The experience could be very devastating and heart breaking most especially if the ones who caused us pain are the people we hold most dear in our hearts. Once damage is done, forgiveness is the most difficult thing to do and forgetting is somewhat as elusive as literally flying without wings.

I was browsing through a social networking site one day and I saw this post from a good friend of mine, “I can still remember a teacher in high school once told us that forgiving without forgetting gives no essence to forgiveness…” Does it mean that if we can’t forget we can never forgive? The old adage that says, “Forgive and forget…” is easier said than done. The mere fact of forgiving who caused one to feel so bad or even cause a very long time pain that may have even altered one’s life is too difficult to do. It would require so much courage to move mountains and do such an act. Forgetting on the other hand is way too far more difficult than to forgive. How could one forget that once in his life, someone made him cry every night for long years? Who made him lose his self worth, altered his life or even lose his wonderful future?

I have forgiven YOU... but YOU still make me cry!...

Let me share another quote from one of my favorite television series. It goes something like this: “After careful consideration and many sleepless nights, here's what I've decided. We move on, we move out, we move away from our families and form our own. But the basic insecurities, the basic fears and all those old wounds just grow up with us. And just when we think life and circumstance have forced us truly to become an adult, your mother says something like that. Or worse, something like that. We get bigger, we get taller, we get older. But, for the most part, we're still a bunch of kids, running around the playground, trying desperately to fit in.” – (Meredith Grey, “Grey’s Anatomy”)

It is a reality that deep wounds in the past or even in our childhood linger in our hearts. As we take the journey of life, we try and try hard to forgive. We may even say and make ourselves believe that we have really forgiven all the ones who have hurt us. But each time we remember, we still burst into tears and then again try to find solace in our own little world called “secret closet of my own hurts.” It is sad and even more difficult to admit, but the forgiveness we make ourselves believe in this aspect is just too superficial and this is the very reason why the hurt we once knew are just deep within our deepest seat of emotions still lurking around and instantly coming out each time we remember.

How does one FORGIVE?

Although most people would not believe, forgetting is NOT a way to forgiveness. Forgetting may just cause one to give superficial pardoning but not real forgiveness. Good friends may even tell us every time someone had caused us pain to just forget because the one who caused us pain does not deserve our time and effort. Our friends may really mean well when they tell us such a thing but it does not cure the pain we feel inside. Sometimes, we even feel that this pain which we may even carry to the last days of our life are just treated as trivial if we keep on believing that such an act of forgetting is the way to forgiveness. While deep down inside, we are suffering much more than anyone can imagine. This happens every now and then because it is human nature that the more we try to forget, the more we remember. So, what then can we do?“The fact is that very often the harmful effects of past injuries stay with us whether or not we consciously remember…” (Dr. David Scoop and Dr. James Masteller, “Forgiving Our Parents Forgiving Ourselves”)

Forgetting should be the last resort in the process of forgiveness. The hurtful acts should be remembered in a healing way* for only then can we give true forgiveness to the one who caused us pain and to our own selves. Trying hard to “forget” just causes us to suppress ourselves from remembering yet we store them in our subconscious mind. We deceive our very self and we can never be free from the pains in the past. Whenever we try to forget painful memories, we are basically in denial.

Remember in a HEALING WAY…

Sometimes we focus too much on the things that hurt us, making us miss the goodness and the wonderful blessings we receive each moment that we spend our journey with life- especially when we are hurt and dealing with so much emotional pain. Don't spend much time crying over spilled milk, smile and realize that the glass is not broken. Remember the good that the hurtful act has caused you; did it make you more mature… more responsible or other positive things that may have happened because of the harm that has been done? Has the pain made you stronger? Do not focus on how much pain you felt but keep in mind how bad things have strengthened you. Remember such hurtful memories in a different perspective and focus on the positive that it has brought into your life. Although we are aware or not, a painful past and wrongdoings of others towards us are the reasons why we get more inspired to be better… to reach for our dreams and somehow show them that we are tougher than the tough things they brought into our life.

Keep in mind that remembering in this aspect is not doing it with bitterness but with thoughtful mind to learn from what once was and with the knowledge that one could never be as sturdy as he is right now if not for what has hurt him in the past. What we are today are products of yesterdays, and there is no doubt that whether we admit it or not we are blessed because after all, we managed to live to the present.

Should You Forgive....

WHEN do I forgive?

“The process of forgiveness always begins with a decision. It is an act of the will, something we choose to do because we know it is healthy and right, even though we may not “feel like it” at the moment.” (Dr. David Scoop and Dr. James Masteller, “Forgiving Our Parents Forgiving Ourselves”)
Deciding to forgive is the first step to giving forgiveness. And in doing so, one should learn the reasons why he should decide to forgive, why it is the right thing to do and why is it healthy.

As much as we have to forgive others, we should not forget to forgive ourselves too. Sometimes, we add up to the hurts we feel because we may blame ourselves for not having the courage or the chance to do to protect it. Decide to forgive your own shortcomings and you’ll find it easier to forgive others.

Deciding to forgive is the right thing to do because, no one is perfect. And as much as others need to be forgiven, we do the same. If we keep burning bridges just because we don’t forgive, we will soon find no bridge to burn… we can never live alone. Remember the old adage, “No man is an island.”
One should decide to forgive because it does not only ease the burden of his oppressor, but his own burden as well. When one decides to forgive, he gets rid of his own hurtful feelings. It gives him peace of mind; he could feel his life lighten and he does not have to worry on making ways and reasons not to meet someone who has hurt him during an unexpected time- maybe when he goes to the mall or even when he walks down the street.

It is healthy to forgive because it helps preserve one’s sanity. It rids one off his stresses and therefore decreases the risk for him to acquire stress related diseases and illnesses someday.
If one never learns to forgive, he is just giving the one who caused him pain a chance to hurt him again and again for as long as hatred is burning in his heart. His oppressor can make him feel bad and cry rivers of tears without even trying hard.

Forgive once you have decided to forgive. Learn each day of your life to forget the hurt, but remember the act that has hurt you and the one who has done it to you in a healing way. You will someday realize that the most hurtful events in your life are really your own bridges of growth. God is pleased with the ones who know how to forgive… and He gives enough courage to those who try hard to forget the hurts of wrongdoings done to them but never forgetting the lessons learned.

As we take the journey of life, we can never be free of hurts and pains… but as long as God is beside us, we can learn to FORGIVE, and REMEMBER IN A HEALING WAY.

How to Look Good On Your Graduation Day

Finally, you are about to graduate. Your friends and love
ones are so proud and happy for you as much as you are to yourself. No doubt,
everyone in your life is so excited for that day to come and they will be there
taking pictures of you that you will be keeping in your treasure box all your
life. Of course, you wish to look your best on that day- no one would love to
keep their own images that they would dare not look at some years from now. So
here are some practical ways to look good on that most awaited day:

If you have a plan to get a deep cleansing
facial, make sure to do it at least 2 days before the event. Be sure that your
facial treatment won’t cause some skin exfoliation. If you need some exfoliation,
have it done at least 1 to 2 weeks before the event. It is not advisable to put
on heavier make up on exfoliating skin- it does not only make you look like a
zombie trying so hard to look like a human, it may cause irritation and
infection too.
If you have to go to the spa and have your
manicure and pedicure thing, have it done a day before your graduation. This
will somehow ensure that your nail make over will still look clean the
following day.
Take a good sleep before the big day. Go to bed
early and take at least 8 hours of sleep. If you feel tired, try to have a
lukewarm water bath before bedtime and rinse with water at a room temperature-
this will help relax your muscles and enhance your blood circulation which will
help you go to bed comfortably.
Be sure to prep your skin before applying your
make- up. Cleanse with a facial foam or cleanser like Olay Shine Control Lathering Cleanser or Olay foaming facial wash. Use a good skin toner like Olay Oil Minimizing Toner to close your skin pores.
Do not forget to moisturize and be sure that
your moisturizer has SPF. You may like to try Olay Total Effects Fragrance FreeMoisturizer with SPF 15 or L’Oreal Ideal Skin Genesis Daily Moisturizer SPF 15.Choose your moisturizer depending on your skin needs.
Of course, you will have to decide what make up
to use too. Do not be another victim of trends. Never use very colorful, neon
looking colors for your eye shadow and blush on please. They may look good at
the moment but some years from now, they may look funny on your pictures.
Choose those neutral colors that will make your look good yet not so obvious that
they cover your face instead of just highlighting you best features and downplaying
(not covering) your liabilities. Use minimal eye shadow, light or nude lipstick
and natural toned blush. Take note that it is vital to look pretty and
dignified, not pretty and “cheap”. =)
Use a foundation that conforms to your skin
color and tone, do not over use so that you will not look like you have just “cemented”
your facial skin. Never try to choose a foundation that is too light or too
dark for your skin color. Mousse and liquid foundations are great for dry skin,
dual powder foundation is better for oily skin. Try
Always top mousse and liquid or creamy
foundations with a light dusting of loose powder.
Do not wear glittery eye shadows and lip colors.
Opt for the simple and classic look.
Choose a simple hair style. Do not tease or have
some high buns or pony tail. Never wear a pony tail with colorful flowers on it
so that you will not look like the flower vase at your dining table. Soft curls
just flowing on your shoulders but not on your face is good. Just be sure that
you can keep its volume and shape the whole day. Keep it neat and simple. You
may like to try Finesse Hairspray, it can keep your hair in shape, and great
volume but not compromising your hair’s liberty to move.
Wear a cool scent of your favorite cologne or
perfume. Try the cool scent of D & G Light Blue or Escada Moon Sparkle. Do
not forget to put on “JUST ENOUGH” this means that your scent should not
announce your arrival long before you have arrived at your destination. =)
Keep in mind to bring with you your tools for
re- touch (a.k.a “kikay” kit), this should include your lipstick, lip balm,
loose face powder, hair spray or gel in a small easy to carry container, com
and small mirror.
Keep facial tissues handy and easy to access.
You may get teary eyed or perspire during the ceremony.
Since you would sit long and would feel warm,
bring a small handy fan with you.
Put some mineral water in a small atomizer so
that you could spray it on your face to feel and look fresh during the day.
This will also help moisturize your skin.

These are just some of the many ways to look good on your
graduation day. But there is one cardinal rule to really look good, that is: TO
KEEP THINGS SIMPLE and enjoy your day. Congratulations!
