Try waxing instead of shaving to reduce sweating, which may lead to dark underarms.Dark underarms can be an embarrassing condition, causing women to avoid wearing strapless dresses and tank tops. Skin under the arms often becomes dark because of excess sweating or friction caused by clothing. Wearing lightweight clothing during hot weather, bathing regularly, and waxing underarm hair rather than shaving can help decrease the perspiration, which may be a cause of dark underarms.Lemon SlicesLemon slices rubbed on the armpit area is an effective home remedy for dark underarms. The lemon will remove dead cells from the skin.Baking SodaBaking soda can be applied to the underarm area to reduce dark underarms. Apply the baking soda after bathing and massage it into the armpits.Sandalwood Powder and Rose WaterA homemade mixture of sandalwood powder and rose water can be used to clean darkened skin under the arms.Turmeric-Based PastesA homemade paste of 1 tablespoon curd, 1 teaspoon flour, 1 teaspoon milk and a pinch of turmeric may help lighten dark underarms. Apply the paste to the underarms, let it fully dry, then rinse it off with cold water after 20 minutes. In this home remedy, the milk acts as a bleaching agent to reduce the darkness of the skin.Another turmeric-based home remedy is made from 1 teaspoon of cucumber juice, 1 teaspoon of lime juice and a pinch of turmeric powder. This mixture should be applied to the underarms for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinsed off.Orange Peel PowderAnother home remedy for dark underarms is a paste made of powdered orange peel and yogurt. Grind the orange peel into a fine powder and mix it with yogurt, then apply the paste to the underarms.An alternative remedy using powdered orange peel involves mixing the orange peel with rose water and milk, then scrubbing the armpits with the solution.Coconut Oil and Vitamin EWashing the underams with coconut oil is recommended as a home remedy for darkened skin. The coconut oil will help slough off old skin, thereby lightening the area.Vitamin E oil is also recommended for use on dark underarms, and works much the same way as coconut oil in exfoliating the area.Potato JuicePotato juice also works for some as a bleaching agent to lighten underarm skin.Deodorant alternativesDeodorants can be the cause of dark underarms, and deodorants with a strong smell seem to be a special culprit in the condition. Rather than using commercial deodorants and antiperspirants, anti-fungal powder or alum can be substituted. If the dark underarms are a reaction to the deodorant being used, this remedy should help.Pumice StoneRubbing the underarm area with a pumice stone will force dead cells to slough away, leaving newer and lighter skin behind. This remedy should only be used on an emergency basis and not as a regular practice.
