Bakasyunan Resort and Conference Center Tanay, Rizal

Stayed at Bakasyunan Resort and Conference Center with my family during a recent trip to Tanay, Rizal. Situated in an area with a view overlooking the Rizal and other neighboring areas. Though the place seems more suitable for large groups of people, events and team building activities. Bakasyunan Resort still provided our kids other options for activities in the event of rain or other unfortunate events that may happen during our trip. Never-the-less, we had a restful and relaxed stay at the resort.

Situated within a 15 hectare forest property with a strategic location overlooking the Sierra Madre mountains, Laguna de bay, and other neighboring areas. Aside from the standard pool and accommodations, Bakasyunan Resort is also equipped with with various outdoor activities consisting of ATV rides, wall climbing, horseback riding, zip line, and rappel, among others. But take note that availing of these activities are not free.

Availed of the Private Room which costs about Php 3500 per night (no breakfast included). The room is spacious and comfortable enough for a family of 2 Adults and 3 small children. No free water or water heaters included. The room is fully air conditioned and equipped with a flat screen t.v. but only local channels are available for viewing.

A small table and a few chairs are also available for dinning. Food is average and there is no room service. Good thing, we still had some left over food during our lunch at Lorenzo's Grill which is just near the place.

Bathroom is clean, but there are no toiletries available. Better bring a piece of rope also where you can hang your wet clothes, in case you decide to go for a swim.

I would also suggest you book accommodations near the hotel and pool area to save yourselves from a steep climb.

Overall, had a well rested stay. We even decided to turn-off the air conditioning and open the windows as the cool air was enough.

Daranak Falls

Daranak Falls is a place you would want to check-out with your family and friends whenever you’re in Tanay, Rizal. We happened to pass-by while looking for a place to eat during our trip to Tanay, Rizal, so we decided to drop by and take a peek. Daranak Falls is operated and protected by the local city Government. The park is designed for good, clean fun and not much on facilities and infrastructures, so you would have to taper your expectations. Nevertheless, Daranak Falls is good place to relax, have a picnic, and take a dip in the cool and clear waters while enjoying the scenery.

Upon paying the the according entrance fee and if you decide to get a picnic shed or table, you'll be subjected to a bag check. Alcoholic beverages, paper plates, styro packaging, plastic utensils, and plastic cups are not allowed inside. However, they do allow packed food in reusable containers and bottled water. You are then allowed to cross a hanging bridge that will lead you to the falls.

Good thing about being a homeschooling family, is that we get to plan our own schedules. We usually, plan our trips during off seasons and weekdays so we get to enjoy the place all to ourselves.

The water maybe enticing and may want to make you jump in, but please observe proper safety precautions. Inflatable tires are available for rent for those who want to get near the falls or may not know how to swim.

Don't worry, as there is also a shallow part for small kids or those who would like to sit down and enjoy the flow of the water.

During a recent family trip to Tanay Rizal, we came upon Lorenzo Garden Grill, which was highly recommended by the Sisters at St. Padre Pio Chapel in Balimbing, Tanay, Rizal. According to them the place specializes in grilled meats flavored with fresh organic herbs and spices. They did not disappoint as the food is not only good but also reasonable.

Dining inside seems nice and cozy, but we prefer dining outside in the nipa huts which are more spacious and breezy.

Nothing beats a hot bowl of Bulalo Soup during a cold, rainy afternoon. Meal servings are usually good for 2 to 3 persons...

The taste of herbs on their Grilled Liempo is good enough that you don't even need to use sauce...

Their Pancit Bihon is loaded with toppings that you just can't have enough....

After a hearty meal you've got to wash everything down with one of their smoothies. The Cucumber Mint Apple and Sunny Day Smoothie is worth a try...

If you're a sweet tooth, you've got try their Potted Chocolate Cheesecake...

Tarsier Conservation Area, Loboc Bohol

The Philippine Tarsier is one of the smallest primates known. It’s size is no larger than a man’s hand and is normally found in the islands of Samar, Leyte, Bohol, and Mindanao. The tarsier is a nocturnal creature which feeds on insects, lizards, and small birds. Tarsiers are really a sight to behold and if you’ve never seen one before you shouldn’t pass off a chance to see one whenever you visit Bohol.

Before entering the Tarsier Conservation Area a short briefing on the rules and regulations will be conducted regarding the do's and dont's inside the Conservation Area. Silence is to be strictly observed, flash photography is prohibited and touching the tarsiers among others is not allowed.

Going around the conservation area takes only a few minutes to complete, so please take your time and follow the rules and regulations. The conservation area is supposed to give us a glimpse on how tarsiers live in their natural environment and show us how we can help protect them.

These have got to be the biggest tarsiers we've ever seen...

After a long, tiring and fun filled day going around Bohol. It was nice to slow down for a while, take a break and recharge for a while. Good thing We passed by Zoocolate Thrills after visiting Bohol Habitat Conservation Center Butterfly Sanctuary. Zoocolate Thrills another brain child of the Zoomanity Group, the same team that is behind Zoobic Safari (located in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone), Residence Inn (located in Tagaytay), Paradizoo(located in Mendez, Cavite also near Tagaytay), and Zoocobia Fun Zoo (located in Clark Freeport Zone).

A wide field and play ground is just too sweet for the kids to resist. A welcomed relief for the tired and weary parents...

A cool tram to play or go for a ride. Not sure it still works though. But the kids loved playing pretend with the tram...

A covered area which you could rent for occasions or take your snacks...

Interact with some of the local residents. But I guess this turtle is taking a nap or is just too shy...

Say hello to my python and have your picture taken with him, or maybe not???

Exotic birds are among the regulars of the parks owned by the Zoomanity Group...

And of course any Zoo seems incomplete without any tigers...

During our recent trip to Bohol to attend a family reunion, straight from the airport, my wife and I decided to pass by Bohol Bee Farm to take our breakfast and have a look at the place before taking a tour around Bohol. We’ve heard a lot about this place from friends, but haven’t really had the time to see for ourselves. Since We took the earliest flight to Bohol, this gave us enough time to visit Bohol Bee Farm and experience it for ourselves.

With a homey and rustic feel to the place, Bohol Bee farm is covered with different types of plants and vegetation giving it a calming and relaxing feel to the place. Bohol Bee Farm among many others consists of a Bee Farm, Organic Farm, handicraft making, a hotel for accommodations, a restaurant, and a bake shop and store where you can buy most of the products made in the farm. They also have a paid tour for the place, but since We were on a tight schedule, We decided to have breakfast, a quick peak at the place, and buy some pasalubong. The freshly baked cup cakes smelled so good that we ended up eating the cup cakes instead of giving it away.

For breakfast We ordered fish, the serving is big and can be shared by 2 persons...

Seafood Noodle Soup, which can also be shared by 2 persons...

And pancakes for the kids...

Breakfast would not be complete without a good cup of coffee and ice cream for dessert, which turned out to be the best part of the meal.

They also have a swimming pool where you can hold parties and events...

Bohol Bee Farm may not have an awesome beach front but they do have a sun deck where you can go to relax, catch the sun and enjoy the view.

Nova Shell Museum which is located near Alona Beach in Panglao town Center houses a collection of shells within the Philippines and around the world. Sea shells doesn’t mean those commonly seen along the beach, but the rare ones and which can only be seen in deep waters. I know, at least once in your life, you’ve collected some sea shells on your trip to the beach. If your amazed on what you’ve seen, you’ll marvel at their collection of rare shells.

No Shell collection won't be complete without a shell that attracts other shell's to itself...

Shell's don't just come in different designs, but apparently, in the colors of the rainbow...

Fossilized giant clams get up close and personal...

The smallest, rarest and most expensive shell in the collection. as it can only be found at a depth 150-200 meters below sea level...

Aside from the shell collections, Nova Shell Museum also holds a small collection of antiques...

The tour comes with a guide who is very informative and helpful during the visit. We've learned a lot of things about shells during our visit. They also have a souvenir shop selling products locally made from shells and pearls at a reasonable price. They also have a tree house where you can climb, relax, and enjoy the fresh air while enjoying the view.

Bohol Habitat Conservation Center Butterfly Sanctuary, located in Poblacion, Bilar, Bohol, is a conservation area for a variety of butterfly species, dedicated to the protection, growth, and spreading awareness about butterflies. The center aims to help improve the livelihood of the locals by teaching them how to breed butterflies, which play an important role in caring for our environment. Set in a beautifully landscaped garden with a variety of rare and colorful flowers, the place is definitely refreshing sight to behold.

They provide you with free tour guides, who are very polite, informative, funny, and entertaining. They don't just tell you about the fun facts, but in some cases let you see and experience them for yourselves. They made our visit extremely enjoyable.

Below is a pair of butterfly species. Contrary to common belief, the female butterflies are actually bigger than their male counter parts. However, the males have more colorful and unique designs on their wings to be able to attract females. Similar to courting in the humans.

There is approximately 300 species of butterflies native to Bohol, and more than half can be found here at Habitat Conservation Center. A colorful caterpillar doesn't necessary turn into a more beautiful butterfly. It is actually the opposite.

Get up close and personal with the butterflies and caterpillars, so you can examine them for yourself. Did you know that butterfly caterpillars don't actually have hairs that make you itch, rather the hairy ones usually turn into moths?

With a little trick photography, you can get yourself a cool set of butterfly wings or become a temporary backdrop to a butterfly.

Just like paradise, enjoy the view and have your picture take along the beautifully landscaped garden.

Yoki's Farm Tagaytay

During a trip to attend the graduation rites at the SVD seminary, We've decided to go around Tagaytay, since We were already there and was free for the entire afternoon. Using "Waze", We discovered that Yoki's Farm, which is located in Mendez Cavite, is only 30 mins. from the seminary (just in the vicinity of Paradizoo).

Following the instructions was pretty easy, however, spotting the entrance could be quite a challenge as the signage is small and could only be seen on top of the gate. The entrance fee is only Php 100/Adult and Php 50/kids 7 yrs. below. They are open everyday from 8am-11pm & 1pm-4pm. You can opt to request for someone to show you around the place and answer whatever questions you may have.

Yoki's Farm uses Hydrophonics to grow most of it's crops such as lettuce, spinach, other leafy vegetables and herbs. For this typical set-up you'll need: tin metal sheets (formed into gutters to hold your plants and facilitate the flow of the liquid), PVC pipes and rubber hoses, a metal rack, a water pump, and although Hydro phonics is not supposed to used soil as a medium, this set-up will need a styro cup, and a mixture of river sand and coconut husk shavings as potting medium.

The solution is gently pumped from a basin under the rack and flows through one end of the gutter passing through the plants. The solution falls out the other end of the gutter and back to the basin. The cycle repeats itself, minimizing the need for daily watering of the plants except for the need to replenish the fluids.

Rows of lettuce which are carefully grown and cared for. For Php 100 you can buy a kilo of freshly picked lettuce. You can also purchase other vegetables and herbs from the farm.

A variety of herbs such as mint, thyme, & basil are also grown and sold here...

A variety of orchids and ornamental plants are grown and sold here...

They also take care of some animals, most of which are birds such as Peacocks, Macau's, and Pigeons. They also have some pigs, rabbits and a few turtles...

You'll appreciate this collection of empty liquor and wine bottles....

Aside from the farm they also have a collection of statues, antiques and rare artifacts that the owner collected through the years. Some are even big enough to be ridden. You can have your picture taken with these collections or just admire the view...

Island Cove Oceania Swim & Splash Park

I have heard of Island Cove for quite some time now, but have not gotten the chance to go there, as it is located in Binakayan, Kawit, Cavite which is far from where We live. However, thanks to the newly built roads, it has made it more convenient for us to travel to Binakayan, Kawit, Cavite. You just got to love technology and progress, using "waze" We only traveled 1 hr. from our home in San Pedro, Laguna to Binakayan, Kawit, Cavite.

Island Cove’s land area is huge, which includes a hotel, a swim & splash park, Spa & fit club, and wild life sanctuary. But since We were invited there to attend a birthday party at the Oceania Swim & Splash Park, We didn't really get much of a chance to see the other areas. Maybe next time when We come here on our own terms.

At the center is a 3000 sq. m. lagoon shaped pool w/ depths ranging from 3-6 ft with 4 giant slides. There are supposed to be inflatable slides along the pool, but since it was a weekday they didn't set-up the slides. It's okay since We have the entire pool all to ourselves as there were also a handful of people in the area.

There is also a 350 sq.m. splash park with padded rubber flooring which is safe for small kids and extra fun for the kids at heart...

They also have a kiddie paddle boating pool which is fun and relatively safe as the water is only knee deep...

A playground is available where your kids can go to rest after eating before they go back for a swim...

Try their mini maze and become a maze runner. See who among you can go through the maze the fastest. Our kids loved it so much that they pass through the maze when go to and from the play ground...

You can also rent their Tennis and Basketball Courts. However, these are open air courts so it could become very hot during the day...

Table Tennis and Billiards are among the other activities you could try...

You can also try target shooting using paint ball guns or rent a bike to go around their compound...

Metropolitan Museum of Manila (MET)

The Metropolitan Museumof Manila (MET), previously the Museo ng Banco Sentral ng Pilipinas is found along Roxas Boulevard within the BSP Complex near Ospital ng Maynila. It contains a collection of paintings, sculptures, jewelry and pottery. However, We came to the museum for the Money Matters for Kids exhibit. After all, it’s never too early to introduce your kids to proper money management.

The Money Matters for Kids exhibit which runs from July 22 to August 18, 2014, contains exhibits and displays concept, samples and applications related to money and money management. Some of the exhibits are highly interactive, so it is highly recommended that you let your child immerse in the activities so they can better understand the concepts by trying it out for themselves.

The Money Matters for Kids exhibit showcases a collection of coins and bills both old and new from local to foreign. They even show some of the features of our local bills and how you could spot a genuine from a fake one. Concepts and trivia about money management can be found all over the place. A replica of a bank is also found in the exhibit which introduces your child to bank forms and transactions. They also have a replica of an ATM machine which believe it or not actually works from inserting your ATM card to Balance Inquiry, Deposit and Withdrawal. The ATM machine offers a short description of the various transactions as you go by. Kids are given the opportunity to budget expenses given a particular scenario, kids are expected to purchase several items within a particular item. Kids are also show how to compute for the value of items using a calculator. A fun experience for the kids to cherish.

Bahay ni Rizal (Rizal Shrine)

For one of our educational trips, We decided to visit ang Bahay ni Rizal (Rizal Shrine) in Calamba Laguna. Among all things, ang Bahay ni Rizal showcases a replica of the house where Jose Rizal was born. What a way it is indeed to learn about our national hero than to experience and learn about his childhood.

The 1st floor of the Rizal House, displays artifacts and memorabilia from Rizal's life and achievements .

The second floor is a reenactment of the way the Rizal family lived and went about their daily routines. It gives us a glimpse on what it was like living in the Spanish era. Artifacts of furniture's and household tools can be seen here.

Kamayan sa Palaisdaan sa Bay

After visiting the Rizal Shrine in Calamba Laguna, we decided to go around the neighboring towns which eventually led us to Kamayan sa Palaisdaan sa Bay for lunch.

It had a homey feel from the outside with lots of wide open spaces for the kids to run around while we wait for our order so we decided to give it a try.

The food is okay and fairly reasonable with approximately servings good for 3-5 persons.

A small pond with lots plants and flowers greet you

along the parking lot. A truly refreshing site where you can sit beneath the shade, smell the fresh air and enjoy the view.

A towering statue of Maria Makiling welcomes you on your way inside the restaurant. Plants and flowers give the statue a stunning effect.

Experience eating on a floating nipa hut for a change. Be careful though not to fall in the water, as they say that it's about 10 ft. deep.

There are a lot of wooden furniture around. They even have a wooden slide and swing. Why not try it for a change? Our kids enjoyed running around the grounds and admiring the scenery. Thanks to the staff for accommodating us.

Munting Buhangin Beach Camp, Nasugbu Batangas

Summer is finally here, and to welcome it we kick-off 2014 with a beach assault at Munting Buhangin Beach Camp in Nasugbu Batangas. Nasugbu Batangas is roughly 2-3 hrs. from manila and can pass through Tagaytay for a much scenic view.

Beaches located along Nasugbu Batangas are nice and clean, layered with fine white sand. Munting Buhangin Beach camp is no exemption. Nestled inside a cove, Munting Buhangin Beach Camp is an ideal place for a picnic, take a swim, go snorkeling and meet the fish, camp out, go on a boat ride or just kick back and enjoy the breeze. Water levels are not too deep and is relative safe for children. Staying here is a perfect way to get away from the busy life to relax and reflect.

Rates are relatively fair and the staff is pretty much accommodating. There is no corkage fee for food and beverages so you can bring in as much as you want. A good thing as food inside the resort could get too pricey. However, hiring an outside caterer is not allowed. The rooms are pretty much basic and designed for accommodations as there are no amenities except for beds and airconditioning for the Family rooms below. Complimentary breakfast is included in the overnight package. I’m not sure about the bigger rooms though, but the price is quite expensive for an overnight stay. You can always bring a portable stove and ice cooler to keep your food safe. I suggest you take the airconditioned nipa huts, although they don’t have private bathrooms, are cheaper and is located nearer the beach area, public shower and bath rooms. Renting a nipa hut also saves you from renting a gazebo tent where you can eat and leave your stuff while you are at the beach. The entrance is elevated and it takes approximately 110 steps from the entrance to the beach front so it’s definitely advisable to rent accommodations near the beach. Reservations are advised so you can choose your accommodations as the place gets full, specially during peak seasons.

Take advantage of the wind and sand, why not try flying a kite.

Enjoyed our stay here and is definitely recommended. We’ll make it a point to return here sometime.

Nayong Pilipino Clark Expo Pampanga

Nayong Pilipino has always been close to my heart. I remember the time when it used to be located near NAIA. We would often go there with family and friends. It's wide open spaces and scenic design of miniature land marks found in the Philippines make it an ideal place to go on picnics, run around, our just relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. This used to be a popular stop over for field trips, where We would often go take a break and have our lunch. I was still in high school when I last visited Nayong Pilipino. Unfortunately, they closed it down and relocated to Clark Expo Pampanga. Since We now live in Laguna, it was very difficult for us to visit Nayong Pilipino in it's new as We would have to schedule a special trip just to go there. Fortunately, We were able to schedule a trip to Clark Land Dinosaurs Island and included Nayong Pilipino as a side trip.

The new Nayong Pilipino showcases Filipino Villages and how different ethnic tribes live in a particular community.

Pond's that introduce visitors to a piece of Filipino folk lore and legends a part of our colorful history. Shown here is "Si Malakas at Si Maganda".

A beautiful landscape of plants and vegetation greets the guest which gives a calm and relaxing feel to the place.

A collection of flags from past to present showing us how it evolved through the generations.

A pond, where you can see and feed some fish or just relax and enjoy the fresh air.

A small collection of artifacts gives you a glimpse of the past.

A replica of the Barasoain Church in Malolos Bulacan is found here. A very integral part of the country's history as a nation. The inauguration of the First Philippine Republic was held here.

However, despite all the nice thing found inside the playgrounds are probably the most popular spot inside Nayong Pilipino. Children can run around, climb up, go for a slide or just play in the sand. They also have a mini obstacle course where you can go for a race through tires, hurdles, and finally go over a wall.

A glimpse of Jurrasic Park at Clark Land Dinosaurs Island Pampanga

Clark Land Dinosaurs Island which is located inside Clark Field Pampanga, is an animatronic theme park and museum. It shows us a glimpse of what it feels like to live during the dinosaur era. The displays are huge and I supposed are made up to scale. Looking at the dinosaurs make you feel like looking at super sized lizards. A back ground of trees and plants transform the place into a jungle. The outer skin of the dinosaurs are made out of rubber and are relatively safe to touch. Sound comes from a speaker near the display. I can’t seem to distinguish their sound as most of them are just a combination of growls & roars. Although, most of the movements of the dinosaurs on display are limited to neck, mouth & head movements they often draw long crowds of people wanting get their pictures taken.

You are greeted by a brontosaurus as you enter the gates. Although it makes a loud sound, it's supposed to be a friendly type of dinosaur as depicted in movies. It's also supposed to be a herbivore so it's won't necessarily eat you, yet???

Imagine a giant lizard in front of you, with teeth, very sharp teeth.

Velociraptor's, made popular by the Jurassic Park movie. They are vicious types of dinosaurs that attack swiftly, attack in groups and devour their prey.

Not all dinosaurs in the park are limited to mouth and head movements. This particular dinosaur is seen pushing over a tree. Wouldn't want to be on top of this tree when it falls down. Timber...

A dinosaur exhibit isn't quite the same without a Pterodactyl which is one of the most popular dinosaurs.

Wouldn't you like to feed a T-rex??? For Php 20, you can go up a platform and feed the T-rex with a slab of meat or place your head inside it's mouth while taking a picture.

A trip to Dinosaurs Island won't be complete without watching their 15 minute show. As the tour guide explains a little trivia about the dinosaurs, men in dinosaur suites go around interacting and play biting with the audience. They even dance to the latest beats. I wouldn't recommend sitting in front especially if you easily get startled or are with small children.

A very fun experience. However, I'd recommend going there during off season's as the long lines of people going on field trips could be very long.

A Day Trip at The Lost Eden Sucat Paranaque

One of the great benefits of home schooling is that you get to choose your own schedule, control your time, and avoid staying in line with long crowds and basically, just enjoy and have fun. Upon running an errand to Sucat last weekend, We decided to drop by The Lost Eden in Sucat, Paranaque since it was along the way and We had the entire afternoon to ourselves.

Though it would have been nicer to call ahead of schedule so their staff could have prepared the place and programs. But this would have taken away the element of surprise and spontaneity. Plus going on field trips during off-season's gives you the rare privilege of enjoying the entire place all by yourselves. "The Lost Eden" which is located along Sucat road Dr. A. Santos Avenue near Kraft is a 4 hectare area owned and operated by Bio Research. However, most of the animals found here are a collection of birds, fishes, small farm animals, and house hold pets situated in a garden depicting our national land marks per region.

A collection of Salt and Fresh water fishes is probably the biggest attraction at The Lost Eden. The Koi Pavillion is probably the largest holding facility for Koi's that we've seen so far.

A mini pet play ground where the animals perform and do some shows.

A Bird Mansion which i home to a wide variety of birds.

Their Pigeon Mansion is the second largest attraction at The Lost Eden. The Pigeon Mansion which is home to wide variety of Pigeons which are breed and trained as pets and for competitions. They even conduct training and seminars on how to breed and train pigeons.

They also have a small be farm, where visitor can see and learn about how bees live and produce honey. There are signs that give small trivia about the animals in the exhibit.

You can see butterflies close-up inside their butterfly farm as they have prepared some honey and flowers on a plate which attract butterflies so you can see them resting and in close-up.

A small replica of Bohol's chocolate hills is one of the attractions landscaped into the place.

As a souvenir each child was give a small fresh water fish to take home and care for. An excellent strategy if I may say so myself. Children really love fish are overly excited at bringing home their very own fish. Chances are, if you don't own an aquarium at home, you'll be buying your supplies from them. Overall we ended-up buying Php 1000++ work of aquarium supplies and equipment. Here a simple guide to help you in setting-up your own aquarium.

Philippine Science Centrum

After visiting the Pedia a few Saturday's ago for our child's check-up and vaccination schedule, We've decided to go out a stroll around the city. Since We finished early around 9:30 am and We were already already at St. Luke's Global We decided to browse the internet for nearby interesting places to visit. Philippine Science Centrum came up w/c according to the internet was approximately 12-15 km's. from our present location w/c is along the River Banks Mall in Marikina. You've got to love technology, since it was our first time to go to Philippine Science Centrum, We used the "Waze" app on our mobile phones to find the River Banks Mall.

If memory serves me right, Philippine Science Centrum used to be located within UP Manila's Campus along Pedro Gil. This place brings a lot of memory and nostalgia as it used to be one of the most popular spots for school field trips before the likes of "The Mind Museum" and "Manila Ocean Park" came around. Nice to know that they still managed to keep the place going after all those years. Parking along the River Banks Mall is more spacious than Pedro Gil. However, the signage to the entrance is quite small to notice but don't worry as the security and staff's at the River Banks Mall are more than happy to guide you along the way.

Before entering the Philippine Science Centrum you'll be immediately greeted by the Magic Faucet found along the corridors that will surely arouse your imagination. Entrance Fee is Php 120/head, but children below 2 yrs. old can come in for Free. For 20-30 mins., You'll also be accompanied by their staff, who are more than happy to take you around the place and answer any question that you may have about any of the exhibits, then you're off to the go around the place.

Strange that amidst all the gadgets and latest technology, our kids still loved the Mechanics Section of the exhibit. We spent alteast an hour in this area, where the kids got to run around and play with simple machines like swings, pulleys, and levers.

It's fun to see that they've placed small trivia's inside the rest rooms. You get to learn while you take a pee.

Had a great day of learning and fun. Thanks to their very accommodating and friendly staff. We'll definitely go back again whenever We are near the area.

Burgoo SM Southmall

Decided to go to SM Southmall during my lunch break for an errand. While my wife was paying bills at BDO. My son and I stayed at Burgoo SM Southmall to order for lunch. This was our first time to try out Burgoo's, but the placed look so nice with tall windows to accommodate natural lighting. The place actually looked a little bit like Friday's with a more lighter and brighter ambiance. Good thing they were offering a buy 1 get 1 promo for selected items on that day which made our choice a little bit easier.

We got a Regular Barbecue Chicken for Php 395 and tried their Burgoo Kebabs for our get 1 which looked really good.

My Son was not really a fan of Kebabs but He really liked their rice and corn which came with the meals.

Though We don't usually order drinks when We dine-out, our Son wanted to try-out their strawberry drink which works pretty well with the grilled items.

They cover the table with a sheet of paper, so your child could knock themselves out by drawing on the sheet of paper using crayons while you wait for your food. Sadly, We forgot to ask if We could take the paper home with us.

We also tried their Mississippi Mud Pie for dessert which costs around Php 155. It looked so good that my Son was already taking bid chunks of the pie even before I got a chance to take a picture.

Over all We paid around Php 1000++ for the entire meal which is pretty much around the same range for these type of restaurants and seems pretty decent for 2 adults and 1 child. Had a great meal at Burgoo SM Southmall, we'll definitely come back to try-out their Pizza's, Burgers and Pastas.

Residence Inn & Paradizoo Tagaytay

It's been almost 2 years since We've visited Residence Inn & Paradizoo, Tagaytay and It was nice to see a lot of improvements since our last visit. The place is a lot cleaner with more flora and fauna. We have a lot of fond memories of this place and it's a wonderful feeling to have been able to have the chance to relive it one more time. As before We got our tickets from Metro Deal for Php 250 only which gives you access to both Residence Inn & Paradizoo. You also get a free ride on their cable car.

Since We've seen most of the animals at Residence Inn, We've decided to catch the Animal Show, which is only about 10-15 minutes. Surprisingly, the show was nice and the audience loved it very much. The shows format is very simple, ask for a volunteer, introduce the animals and let the volunteers touch the animals and smile for the cameras.

You also get to ride on their cable car for free.

Visiting Residence Inn, gives you a spectacular view of Taal Lake.

Like Residence Inn, Paradizoo has been renovated and well maintained. Paradizoo is basically an organic farm, filled with crops, and farm animals. However, it was really surprising to see that their staff's now accompany you through the premises and give you a short tour of the farm.

Go though their butterfly farm and see the butterflies fly from flower to flower in their magnificent colors.

Visit the bee farm have a closer look at the bee's. There are a lot of trivia's scattered all over the place which give a lot information and entertain the guests. There are also bee products available, but the price is quite expensive for a small qty. They also sell plants, vegetables and order organic products.

As proof of your visit, the staff issues a certificate for your visit which you can frame and take home as a souvenir.

Tali Beach, Nasugbu Batangas

Our kids really love going to the beach. Since our eldest daughter will be turning 3 on June 3, then why not celebrate it on the beach. We normally, go to Laiya or Anilao Batangas, but travelling there from our home normally takes us around 3-4 hrs. Since, We wanted to maximize our stay at the beach, We decided to look for a place in Nasugbu Batangas which takes us approximately 2 hrs. travel from home. Going, to Nasugbu also gives us an option to pass by Tagaytay where We could some sight seeing along the side. We came across Tali Beach, an exclusive subdivision near Munting Buhangin, Pico De Loro and Terazas De Punta Fuego. To gain entry to Tali Beach, You have to rent a beach house inside the subdivision. After paying the rental fees, the owner will be sending you an authorization letter that will grant you access to the subdivision. Once, inside you can now have access to 7 small beach resorts within the subdivision for free. Access to the resorts are free, but you may have to pay a minimal fee if you want to enjoy some of the facilities.

Searching the Internet, We came across this add in Sulit for a Beach House For Rent In Tali Beach. The house is 300 sq.m. in size situated on a 700 sq.m. lot. It has a 2 air conditioned rooms w/c is approximately able to fit 6 to 8 persons. 2 Toilets w/ Bath and a balcony. They also have a fully equipped kitchen w/ ref., gas, stove, pans, plates, spoons, forks, glasses, microwave oven, toaster, grille and a caretaker to help. Though I highly suggest leaving a tip, for the caretakers troubles is welcomed and highly appreciated. Rates for June to February for 1-9 PAX = Php 6,000 & for 10-13 PAX = Php 8,000. Rates for March to May for 1-9 PAX = Php 6,500 & for 10-13 PAX = Php 9000.. Check-in Time is at 2 p.m., while check-out time is 12 noon the following day. However, We were allowed to go there earlier so We could have more time to enjoy the beach.

The is ideal for a family or group of 6 persons. But you could probably fit 8 persons per room, if your not that particular.

Since We have 3 small kids with us, We just decided to go to the Main Beach, which is definitely child friendly. The water is clear and waves are not to strong. However, better bring floaters just to be on the safe side as children usually wander-off. Since, this is a subdivision, there are not to many people on the beach. It's like renting the entire beach for yourselves or for a small group of people. Some rules to observe though while on the beach. Littering is strictly prohibited as well as eating rice along the beach as they are very keen on keeping the cleanliness of the beach. Rowdy and unruly behavior is also prohibited. Believe Me when I tell you that the security is serious about these things and will not hesitate to call your attention.

Go for a swim, play in the sand, go snorkeling or play a round of beach volley ball. For a fee you could also go for a banana boat ride or go island hopping.

The kids had a blast and We had a wonderful time. We'll definitely go back next year. But an overnight stay, seems a little bit short. May try a 3 days/2 nights stay next time, if our schedules would allow it.

Holy Carabao Balik Bukid 2013 (Revisited)

Amidst a very hot summer day, We decided to get out of the house and go to Holy Carabao for their Balik Bukid 2013 country fair event. Though We've here a couple of times before, it's always a joy to go here, not really because of the place but because of their staff who are always more than willing to assist you. Same as before entrance is free for the Balik Bukid event, however, you’d have to pay Php 300+ to use some of the facilities. Your free to go around the fun farm and visit the different stalls and booths that were set-up. This years Balik Bukid event, drew a lot more people. There were also a lot more exhibitors present, so there were a lot more shops to visit and items to choose from. Nice to see that most of the shops were being attended to by the actual owners, you get to enjoy a little conversation with them and you learn a little something about their business and products that they sell. Since We’ve been to Holy Carabao’s Fun Farm before, We’ve decided to try activities We’ve never tried before.

Fishing is always popular at the Fun Farm. There seems to be something magical about fishing using a fishing rod made out of bamboo poles, nylon string and a hook. They even use live worm bait which they culture themselves. Don't worry, their staff will be more than happy to help you with the bait. After 3 visits and a hundred of tries, this is actual proof that there really are fish swimming in their ponds.

You can ride a row boat and see the ducks swim the pond. You can either operate the row boat yourself or ask their staff to take you around the pond.

Try their zip line which is much lower and safer for small children.

It was definitely a hot and humid day, was nice to get out of the house and take a breath of fresh air. Enjoyed the grilled burgers and ice cream. Also bought some herbs to plant and grow in our garden. Can't wait to see what's new for the next Balik Bukid event...

John and Yoko Restaurant Alabang Town Center

Had dinner with my wife at John and Yoko Alabang Town Center a couple of days ago after work. Since the menu seemed very appealing, We decided to give it a try. The menu consisted of mainly Japanese food with a modern twist. They also serve Salads and Pizza among others. We found ordering very difficult, since there We a lot of items that looked good but there was little description on Menu to help us on our selection. Since We were not really that hungry, We just decided to sample the menu.

The inside of John & Yoko is as colorful in the inside as it is in the outside. There are also books at the side, which I suppose you could read while waiting for your order or just passing the time. A video of an old Japanese Chef making Sushi and other Japanese food is constantly being shown on the monitor. Giving the restaurant a bit of nostalgic feels.

For Starters, We decided to order their All Meat Shabu Shabu which is probably good for 2-3 persons depending on your appetite of course. Heavy on the beef and noodles, pretty decent for Php 389. Best Served hot.

Ever the fan of the ageless Birthday Noodles, We decided to try John and Yoko's version which cost Php 379. Not bad, if I say so myself. The sweet pork matches well with the saltiness of the noodles, leaving virtually little after taste in your mouth.

Decided to try their Wagyu Rice for Php 299. Nothing special about their Wagyu Rice though, but works quite well with the soup.

Didn't order any drinks as We usually do. However, We noticed that they were servicing their water in pitchers with cucumber, giving it some flavor and an extra refreshing kick.

Paid a Total of Php 1000++ (Inclusive of Service Charge and Tip). Appreciated, the crew for their attentive Service. They were always checking if We were okay or needed anything. Noticed the Sushi and Rice Topping, the group beside us ordered and decided to try that on our next visit.
