Revelation Software today announced the availability of the latest release of OpenInsight Development Suite (OI) 9.2.1 and the Universal Driver 4.7. OI 9.2.1 provides the following new components:

OpenInsight for Web (O4W v1.1) – A web 2.0 development toolkit that empowers OpenInsight and MultiValue developers to rapidly create browser based forms, reports, menus, dashboards and programs.

Source Code Management (SCM) – With this new feature, source code can be grouped into modules and saved as a unique version as the code is compiled.

Enhanced System Editor ++ – Our system editor has been redesigned to improve speed and functionality.

U2 DotNet Connector – The U2 Connector has been redesigned to utilize the Uniobjects .Net library instead of the Intercall libraries. This redesign allows the implementation of connection pooling.

“The response to our O4W v1.0 product contained with OpenInsight 9.2 was so well received that we placed the majority of our development efforts into the extension of O4W,” said Mike Ruane, President/CEO Revelation Software, “Our development community asked for many new features to be included in the next release of O4W and we delivered!”

The Universal Driver 4.7 and Universal Driver 4.7 (NUL) have been released in conjunction with OpenInsight 9.2.1. The Universal Driver 4.7 replaces the Universal Driver 4.6 and will be offered in two versions. The free bundled version supplied with OpenInsight 9.x network user licenses and the standard version to be used with OpenInsight 8.x and below as well as Advanced Revelation.

“The UD 4.7 (NUL) will now be supplied at no cost to all current members of our Works Subscription program”, said Robert Catalano, Director of Sales, Revelation Software. “MultiValue and SQL developers can purchase OpenInsight as a front end development toolkit without our Linear Hash database at a cost of US$60.00 per user with a minimum of ten (10) users for browser based applications. Included are both the O4W web development toolkit and the UD 4.7 (NUL) software.”

OpenInsight v9.2 released

Revelation Software today announced the availability of the latest release of OpenInsight Development Suite (OI) 9.2. OI 9.2 provides the following new components:

OpenInsight for Web (O4W) – A web 2.0 development toolkit that empowers OpenInsight developers to rapidly create browser based forms, reports, menus, dashboards and programs.

SQL Connector – With this new connector, SQL tables are now seen as native tables to all components of OpenInsight including forms, reports, popups, stored procedures and O4W.

OpenInsight for D3 – This connector will allow OpenInsight to be a front end application development tool with the D3 database from TigerLogic Corporation.

Single Sign-On (SSO) – By configuring SSO, OpenInsight users can be authenticated via traditional OpenInsight methods, via Windows security, or via a combination of both.

Bitmap Indexes – This type of index is used where the number of indexed values are relatively small; e.g. Sex (M/F), Active (Yes/No), etc. Bitmap Indexes are extremely fast, and are much faster than our existing Btree indexes.

OECGI3 – This is the OpenEngine Common Gateway Interface version 3 which supports Failover and Load Balancing modes. These modes make OECGI3 a more robust connection object and allows for extra capacity and/or redundancy to be added to a web application.

“This release continues our commitment to extended OpenInsight by embracing new technologies as well as providing seamless integration with external databases. In and of itself O4W is so feature rich it could have been marketed as a standalone product,” said Mike Ruane, President/CEO Revelation Software, “The inclusion of O4W as part of our OpenInsight Development Suite further empowers our development community.”

OpenInsight Development Suite 9.2 can be purchased as a front end development toolkit for the U2, D3 and SQL Server databases. “With the release of OpenInsight 9.2 we have introduced new licensing which allows both MultiValue and SQL developers to purchase OpenInsight as a front end development toolkit without our Linear Hash database.”, said Robert Catalano, Director of Sales, Revelation Software. “When purchased as a toolkit only, the price is US$60.00 per user with a minimum of 10 users for web based applications.”

Revelation Roadshow 2010 coming down under in August

Revelation Software announces release of OpenInsight Development Suite 9.1

Includes the new NetOI and RevDotNet programming interfaces

Sydney, NSW. – September 1, 2009, Revelation Software today announced the availability of the latest release of OpenInsight Development Suite (OI) 9.1. OI 9.1 provides many new features including: NetOI and RevDotNet. OpenInsight 9.1 has been extended to allow .NET integration using two different methodologies. Using the NetOI .NET assembly, developers can code entirely in Visual Studio and develop a Windows application that utilizes OpenInsight as its data source. RevDotNet is a set of API calls made from within OpenInsight to a .NET control.

Also new to OI 9.1 are the following features:

· The ability to send a fax from OpenInsight using the standard Windows Fax Server (included in XP, Vista, Server 2003 and Server 2008).
· The ability to insert graphics and textual separators within OpenInsight menus.
· The ability to send an email using SSL.
· The creation of a task scheduler that can be called as an API or as a GUI.
· The ability to process system indexing utilizing the Engine Server.
· The ability to create code templates in the System Editor++.

“This release was originally scheduled to only include bug fixes to OpenInsight 9.0.”, said Robert Catalano, Director of Sales, Revelation Software. “As more and more new features were being introduced to the product we decided to make this a major release.”

The OpenInsight Development Suite 9.1 will be offered in three versions; Desktop Edition, Server Edition and Enterprise Edition. OpenInsight V9.0 released

Revelation Software today announced the availability of the latest release of OpenInsight Development Suite (OI) 9.0. OI 9.0 provides many new features including: WebOI, a Web enablement and development toolkit. With WebOI, existing OpenInsight Forms and Popups can be ported quickly and easily to the Web and existing subroutines and functions can be integrated to apply business logic allowing for maximum reuse and integration. The 9.0 release offers a new look and feel with the inclusion of a new IDE for the Application Manager. Also included is a new System Editor++ which has fast, accurate color coding, the ability to collapse code and show line numbers. In addition the System Editor++ supports the opening and editing of OS files and performs color coding on HTML and JavaScript tags. Syntax assistance tips for Basic+ keywords, functions, and subroutines are also provided.

Also new to OI 9.0 is the Bravo Dashboard from Sierra Bravo Corporation. The Bravo Dashboard is a MultiValue CGI application that delivers the output of individual business metrics “widgets” to a dashboard web page. A new .Net version of the OIPI Print engine is included as well as enhancements to Basic+, Banded Report Writer, Table Builder, Arev32, Report Builder, XML Workspace and the U2 Connector.

Release 9.0 is the culmination of over one year’s development that has touched almost every entity within the product. It is a free upgrade to current members of Revelation’s Works Program.

OpenInsight for Linux (OIL) discontinued

Effective December 1, 2008 Revelation Software will discontinue OpenInsight for Linux (OIL) and no longer accept orders for this product. This decision is based upon a lack of demand for this product and that both RedHat and Suse have abandoned development for the Linux desktop. Installing OpenInsight for Windows on Linux based servers is still supported. OpenInsight for Windows can be installed on Linux servers with Windows desktops connecting using a SAMBA share and using the Universal Driver 3.0 or 4.5.

Revelation University 2008 Wrap-Up

Due to overwhelming demand, Revelation University was run at two locations in 2008, in Sydney on Tuesday October 14^th and in Auckland on Friday 17^th October. Over 50 attendees from the Asia Pacific region participated in a day chock full of Revelation technical know-how punctuated with product suggestions, the odd joke or two and peer-to-peer networking.

The day begun at 8:30am with registration and coffee, giving attendees an opportunity to catch up with old friends and exchange news from their parts of the world. Mike Ruane, President and CEO of Revelation Software, then kicked off proceedings with a short “State of the Company” presentation highlighting what Revelation Software had been up to since the REVU 2007 and where they where heading in 2009 and beyond.

Having more to show than time would allow, Mike then jumped straight into demonstrating the new features in the soon to be released OpenInsight v9.0. And believe me, there was plenty to show, with over 4000 new or updated components to be rolled out in the next release.

Mike started with the Table Builder, moving on to the Database Manager and Report Builder, all of which included many new features and enhancements. One of the favorite enhancements included the ability to add a default gradient background to all OpenInsight windows with only a few clicks of the mouse, giving any application an instant face lift.

A short break for morning tea was followed by Mike continuing with the new OpenInsight Printer Interface (OIPI), updates to the Form Designer and even a quick demo integrating Google API’s like chart and maps into an OpenInsight form. The extension of the style settings for the EDITTABLE control, allowing for virtually limitless combinations, was of particular interest.

Attendees then broke for lunch and a quick stretch of the legs, before reassembling for a quick “how to” session on the new Universal Driver v4.5 and Universal Driver Heavy v4.5 by David Goddard. Installation and configuration settings where covered.

This was followed by Mike who previewed the new features in the Runtime Deployment Kit (RDK) including the ability to automatically create a SETUP.EXE using the integrated NSIS installer.

A final short break for afternoon tea was followed by Mike demonstrating the WEBOI tools built into OpenInsight v9.0.WEBOI interrogates existing OpenInsight components and data and ties it into the Web. Attendees where amazed how WEBOI could reuse their existing application components, like Windows, Popups and stored procedures, unchanged, via a web browser allowing for maximum re-use and integration with minimum effort and cost. This lead to questions like “could I host the application for my client(s), like a cloud computing environment?” which of course, the answer is yes!

Not only is Revelation University an accelerated learning event for the attendees, it’s also a research event for Revelation Software. Mike is always keen to hear how developers are using OpenInsight and what ideas and suggestions they have to enhance or extend the product. In total, there were forty four (44) suggestions from attendees at REVU08, five (5) of which where incorporated into the OpenInsight v9.0 beta3 between Sydney and Auckland. This raises the question “do Asia/Pacific Revelation developers suggest the best OI enhancements?”. I may be biased, but I think they do! Maybe we should plot suggestions on Google Maps to find out?

Thanks to the “Class of 2008” for making REVU08 a great success, some of whom travelled great distances to attend. Revelation knows that it can be hard to set aside a whole day to attend events like this. That’s why we try our hardest to offer you the biggest bang for your buck.

Universal Driver Heavy V4.5 released

The Universal Driver Heavy 4.5 has been released. The UDH 4.5 is a replacement to the UDH 3.1 and is available for Windows platforms only.

New to the Universal Driver Heavy 4.5 are the following features:

Improved performance - The UDH 4.5 replays journalled data much faster than the previous version, and performance (in both journal and mirror modes) is improved through the use of the updated ACE communication libraries.
Improved reliability - Ported to the latest Visual Studio and ACE libraries, UDH 4.5 is more robust and should encounter fewer errors.
Improved User Interface - The UDH Manager now presents more information, more choices, and more flexibility. Users can also invoke the functionality of the UDH Manager from a command-line interface, and can manage/monitor the system from other workstations with the Email Monitor.

Upgrades from the Universal Driver Heavy 3.1 to the Universal Driver Heavy 4.5 are free of charge.

The upgrade can only be applied to OpenInsight versions 8.0.3 through 8.0.7.

Revelation Software have announced that it has purchased Freedombase Web Ready, a web development suite from Freedomsoft, for inclusion into its OpenInsight database development product.

Freedombase Web Ready is a quick and easy way to add Web front ends to existing OpenInsight applications, providing a fast and cost effective means of rejuvenating existing or legacy systems, and retaining the investment that those systems represent.

Revelation will rebrand the purchased Freedombase product as WebOI in order to eliminate any confusion between the two products.

OpenInsight V8.03 released

Revelation Software proudly announce the release of OpenInsight V8.03. This upgrade can be applied to OpenInsight V8.0 or above.

OI v8.03 includes over 75 fixes and enhancements including major enhancements to the OengineSocketServer, OECGI2 CGI internet gateway and AREV32.

Revelation Software have also introduced a new Authorization Code system in this version. This new system is designed to streamline the process of adding user licenses to deployed OpenInsight systems. As of V8.03, you will be able to add user licenses to an existing OpenInsight application by entering an Authorization code supplied by Revelation Software.

Revelation Software releases the Universal Driver Release 4.0

Revelation Software is proud to announce the release of the Universal Driver 4.0 as part of their network product suite.

The Universal Driver 4.0 is client/server software designed to operate on Microsoft Windows Network Operating System environments. UD 4.0 provides enhanced performance, reliability, and integrity for OpenInsight and Advanced Revelation applications using linear hash files.

CeBIT 2007 Wrap Up

CeBIT Australia keeps on growing, this time round there were over 700 exhibitors spread across 5 of the 6 halls at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre in Sydney. It's now the biggest show of its type in the southern hemisphere.

The most impressive point about this years exhibition was that the majority of attendees were business people who were genuinely interested in finding the best software and hardware solutions for their business.

But CeBIT wouldn't be complete without Rev Guy showing off the latest in all things Revelation. This year he dazzled the crowds with the upcoming OpenInsight V8.0, due to hit the streets in early May 2007.

The interest in OpenInsight for Linux has increased since the last CeBIT with many conference attendees asking for a quick demo. Rev Guy spent some time catching up with old ARev developers and impressing new developers looking for that edge in software development.

The really hot topic for this year though was AJAX and Web 2.0, and of course Rev Guy was happy to show anyone and everyone how OpenInsight's new OECGI2 gateway makes Web 2.0 development easy.
