A High Court judge has turned down an application to throw out charges against a man accused of bashing 23 seals to death near Kaikoura in 2010, but the charges could still be dismissed.
Jemaal Peter Roy Large, 37, of Wairau Valley is charged with wilfully ill-treating the 23 seals by clubbing them to death with a galvanised steel pipe at Ohau Pt on November 26, 2010.
In August, Blenheim District Court judge Tony Zohrab turned down an appeal ( Hooray Judge Zohrab ) by Large to have the charges against him thrown out on the grounds that he was legally hunting the seals. Large appealed to the High Court for a judicial review of the judge's decision, applying again to have the charges dismissed.
However, in a decision obtained by the Marlborough Express yesterday, Justice Joseph Williams dismissed the application saying he could not decide if Large was hunting or not and a judge would have to hear the Crown's case to decide whether the charge was valid.
In the decision made last month, Justice Williams said according to the law hunting included the pursuit of the hunted animal and it was not clear if Large's actions could be described as a pursuit "requiring skills ordinarily associated with hunting".

Twenty-three seals, including eight newborn pups, have been found clubbed to death on the Kaikoura coast.
The ~~bashed~~ murdered seals were found on Wednesday by Department of Conservation contractors at the Ohau Point seal colony, about 22km north of Kaikoura township.
Some of the pups killed were just a few days old. The dead seals also included 13 females and two bulls. Other live seals had injuries suggesting they had also been struck, the Department of Conservation (DoC) said.
New Zealand fur seals are protected by law and it is an offence to kill or harm them.

The young couple's respective Facebook pages laid out the dish. When life was sweet and rolling, 20-year-old Joie Lordi posted cheesy song lyrics from The Offspring and pictures of the infant boy whom she shared with her on-again, off-again fiancee Keith Wolfrey...

When matters of the heart turned crap, her comments went in the porta-potty with them.

"My heart's about to break for the final time," she wrote in May, only to follow it up the next day with: "Top two things I hate today 1. Men 2. Men who lie."

As for her beau, the 23-year-old Wolfrey also liked to keep the world electronically abreast. But his Facebook postings -- with the love of spring in full-time bloom -- seemed to have a constant, dark theme: doom.

After Lordi had changed her online relationship from "engaged" to "single," Wolfrey retorted by writing, "Fool! You have jusy [sic] ensured the doom of this world. You cannot even begin to imagine what you set in motion this day."

He would follow-up that declaration up with the posting: "If you are in love you are better off dead."

Last weekend with the couple's courtship officially in full deterioration mode, Wolfrey was moving out of their home in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. An argument broke out between Lordi and Wolfrey over a house key late Saturday night.

With the infant asleep in his bedroom, the spat between his parents turned violent. Wolfrey would later tell police he remembered wrapping his hands around Lordi's neck before he blacked out.

According to police, Wolfrey strangled Lordi to death sometime between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday would just so happen to be the six-month anniversary of their little boy's birth.

Around half past four in the morning, Wolfrey rose and walked into the kitchen to discover Lordi's lifeless body, he claims. But instead of calling 911, he wrapped his ex-fiancee's face in duct tape, went to the computer to update his Facebook page, writing "anyone alive," and then crashed back in bed.

It was only later that morning -- after being woke up by the baby -- did Wolfrey summon police.

He was taken into custody for questioning. He told police he still didn't know what happened to Lordi because he went unconscious in the throes of their argument.

An autopsy on Lordi's body concluded she was murdered -- death by strangulation.

Wolfrey was arraigned late Sunday. He's been charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. He's currently in being held without bond with his preliminary hearing slated for June 1.

This is only a few days old and I have spent a day or so been investigating a lovely Canadian woman named Karin Catherine Waldegrave who posts insane conversations with herself on her facebook wall ( may need a FB account to see wall comments).

She's made 4000 comments in the past week, the nature of these ramblings is well into the real of conspiracy and many theories have been generated.

She supoosedly completely snapped on june 26th 2010. She is brilliant ( speaks English, Estonian, French, Russian, Swedish, Latvian, German, Gallic, Latin) and either deeply disturbed or deeply into something covert.the possibility that she is:
a victim of MKULTRA
a schizophrenic
c two people communicating through one FB account

Up until last week the 26th of May she was posting over 200 replies to herself on a Facebook account when she abruptly stopped commenting/posting and has not posted since then because of the interest in her and attemps to find out about here through her friends.

Read her replies to her own wall posts, this one in particular with a huge 797 replies in a few days, she wrote 500 of them in a 12 hour session without a break.

Digging thruough her wall of comments you will notice most of her photos are water-damaged or burnt.

Some of her information checks out. It never was really decided whether she is just insane, or somehow is involved with these groups and lost her mind along the way (moreso losing the ability to coherently communicate what's true so it makes sense to us), or whether she was mind controlled and the programming has been failing. Probably not an ARG, nor a joke. Either way, it's interesting and disturbing to some and figured you guys would be interested in it. She's obsessed with conspiracies, CIA/KGB/FBI etc, royal bloodlines, the Nazis, international criminal networks etc.

I saw Henry Darger every day for about twenty years. A shuffling old man, a recluse who never had visitors except for a rare visit from a priest

He lived in a single, large room that he had rented since 1930. The room was filled from floor to ceiling with debris of his scavenging. He would take long walks in order to gather his amazing collections, and at great distances from home he could be seen poking through garbage with his cane, looking for his treasures. Crucifixes, broken toys, old magazines, scores of used eyeglasses repaired with tape, dozens of empty bottles of Pepto Bismol, hundreds of balls of twine that he made by taping small pieces together; the list was endless...

"It is a humbling experience now to have to admit that not until I looked under all the debris in his room did I become aware of the incredible world that Henry had created from within himself...."

What Nathan Lerner found were 15 volumes of a vast narrative work that Henry Darger began writing back in late adolescence

He has become famous for his posthumously discovered 15,145-page, single-spaced fantasy manuscript called The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What is known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinnian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion, along with several hundred drawings and watercolor paintings illustrating the story. Darger's work has become one of the most celebrated examples of outsider art.

As European Union foreign ministers added 100 Iranian companies and individuals to a sanctions blacklist on Monday, Iran’s parliament was set to debate censuring 26 U.S. officials, Arman daily reported.

“Under this plan, 26 American officials who have a history of human rights violations in the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan, and who support terrorism.. will be sanctioned,” lawmaker Kazem Jalali was quoted as saying.

While the new EU sanctions agreed on Monday are aimed at pressuring Iran to curb its nuclear activities, the measures being discussed in Tehran are a response to a U.S. move last year to punish Iranians who Washington said were involved in human rights abuses during mass protests in 2009.
