I had two choices, one with a macadamia right in the middle and the other is crunchy nut sort of chocolate. Chocolate lovers would crave for it, I know I do now as I blog this. What are the symptoms and signs of rheumatoid arthritis?
The symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis come and go, depending on the degree of tissue inflammation. When body tissues are inflamed, the disease is active. When tissue inflammation subsides, the disease is inactive (in remission). Remissions can occur spontaneously or with treatment and can last weeks, months, or years. During remissions, symptoms of the disease disappear, and people generally feel well. When the disease becomes active again (relapse), symptoms return. The return of disease activity and symptoms is called a flare. The course of rheumatoid arthritis varies among affected individuals, and periods of flares and remissions are typical.
When the disease is active, symptoms can include fatigue, loss of energy, lack of appetite, low-grade fever, muscle and joint aches, and stiffness. Muscle and joint stiffness are usually most notable in the morning and after periods of inactivity. Arthritis is common during disease flares. Also during flares, joints frequently become red, swollen, painful, and tender. This occurs because the lining tissue of the joint (synovium) becomes inflamed, resulting in the production of excessive joint fluid (synovial fluid). The synovium also thickens with inflammation (synovitis).
Rheumatoid arthritis usually inflames multiple joints in a symmetrical pattern (both sides of the body affected). Early symptoms may be subtle. The small joints of both the hands and wrists are often involved. Symptoms in the hands with rheumatoid arthritis include difficulty with simple tasks of daily living, such as turning door knobs and opening jars. The small joints of the feet are also commonly involved, which can lead to painful walking, especially in the morning after arising from bed. Occasionally, only one joint is inflamed. When only one joint is involved, the arthritis can mimic the joint inflammation caused by other forms of arthritis, such as gout or joint infection. Chronic inflammation can cause damage to body tissues, including cartilage and bone. This leads to a loss of cartilage and erosion and weakness of the bones as well as the muscles, resulting in joint deformity, destruction, and loss of function. Rarely, rheumatoid arthritis can even affect the joint that is responsible for the tightening of our vocal cords to change the tone of our voice, the cricoarytenoid joint. When this joint is inflamed, it can cause hoarseness of the voice. Joint symptoms in children with rheumatoid arthritis include limping, irritability, crying, and poor appetite.
Since rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic disease, its inflammation can affect organs and areas of the body other than the joints. Inflammation of the glands of the eyes and mouth can cause dryness of these areas and is referred to as Sjogren's syndrome. Dryness of the eyes can lead to corneal abrasion. Inflammation of the white parts of the eyes (the sclerae) is referred to as scleritis and can be very dangerous to the eye. Rheumatoid inflammation of the lung lining (pleuritis) causes chest pain with deep breathing, shortness of breath, or coughing. The lung tissue itself can also become inflamed, scarred, and sometimes nodules of inflammation (rheumatoid nodules) develop within the lungs. Inflammation of the tissue (pericardium) surrounding the heart, called pericarditis, can cause a chest pain that typically changes in intensity when lying down or leaning forward. The rheumatoid disease can reduce the number of red blood cells (anemia) and white blood cells. Decreased white cells can be associated with an enlarged spleen (referred to as Felty's syndrome) and can increase the risk of infections. Firm lumps under the skin (rheumatoid nodules) can occur around the elbows and fingers where there is frequent pressure. Even though these nodules usually do not cause symptoms, occasionally they can become infected. Nerves can become pinched in the wrists to cause carpal tunnel syndrome. A rare, serious complication, usually with long-standing rheumatoid disease, is blood vessel inflammation (vasculitis). Vasculitis can impair blood supply to tissues and lead to tissue death (necrosis). This is most often initially visible as tiny black areas around the nail beds or as leg ulcers.

A morning stroll at Air Itam Dam, like a usual once a while routine yet this day seems different. Probably it was a day after a rainy day, the leaves scattered along the routes, but we met a very kind fellow, Doggie. He followed us through the whole trail of the dam. We called out to him when we lost sight of him like he was one of ours. Sweet thing is, he responds, he waits, he obediently followed when he went up another trail and we asked him not to. We each wish that one of us could take him home or that he will be well in this place.A perfect gentlemen.

Somewhere in the middle of the dam hangs a wedding invitation by a black bra. Felt a bit eerie for a moment then laugh we go. It was not there a week ago.

Saying our goodbyes, if you see him, call him Doggie and be kind to him.

Later after breakfast I was guided to Kek Lok Si 'market', going up many steps. I have no recollection of going up to see the turtles, I wonder if I did when I was small. Tourist came to take pictures, buy vegetables to feed them.

Ukelele is a big hit with the Hawaiians and now all over the world. Finally I have it in my hands and it's fun playing it. I also like the tenor ukelele but settled for a soprano. All because I wanted a more 'Hawaiianish' feel if there is such a word. Its light and easy to learn. Even more easier if you are already playing guitar. Oh I need a uke bag!

I stepped into the house and heard this sensational voice singing and piano playing, It was not like I heard sweet vibratos and rich tone voice but it was impressive enough. I liked how he did his falsettos and he does have a nice tone for his age what more I also heard he does not have any vocal training background. Sensational,I thought it was an adult singing, well above 18 anyway. Little did I know its only a 14 year old boy singing. He is Greyson Chance. Most of you would know him and personally I find his voice better than Justin Bieber. I watched his interview with Ellen DeGeneres and I found him speaking well like a matured adult. New Year's Eve

Creative minds with a heart can do wonders and that is what Zac Efron did in the New Year's Eve movie. Zac Efron plays Paul who helps Ingrid played by Michelle Pfeiffer to fulfill her resolutions before 12 midnight and their comical adventure was very entertaining. There are other plots played by famous stars that brings the whole movie to a great climax at the end. With inspiring speech from Claire Morgan(Hilary Swank), soulful singing from Bon Jon Jovi and Lea Michele and sweet love endings, truly this could be the movie of the year! 2012 here we come!!

A movie not to be missed. Life is too short to hold grudges, love is not a secret to be brought to the grave, and sometimes all we want to say is "Have a little faith in me" The duet by Bon Jon Jovi and Lea Michele in the movie is much nicer.

Christmas Tree Light Up

Vistana Hotel, Penang organized a Christmas Light Up event making a difference in the lives of children from Shan Children's Home. And I am glad to be invited to join in the celebration for the night. We were served where the server carries the food on a serving plate and allows the guests to choose what they like. We ate to our heart's content with camera on the other hand.

Then we were given Christmas carols song sheets folded and with a cute sticker each. I went to take a picture of the tree before the light up. Sun was setting and it was time for carols. We were serenaded by the singers from Fettes Park Baptist Church. Their sweet harmonious voices soon echoed by the people's singing along, bringing the Christmas cheer to all.

Soon the countdown begin, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1....ta..da! Christmas tree comes alive!

'Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow' rang through the speakers and Penang was 'snowing' at Vistana Hotel. Children shouted with glee and jumping for joy to catch the 'snow'.Thanks to all the staff of Vistana Hotel for throwing this event and here they are below!

Ho Ho Ho, Christmas is coming to town, almost all retail outlets are decorated with Christmas trees and ornaments, stereo playing Christmas carols, shopping malls filled with Christmas events and that is a glimpse of Christmas drawing near. As you can see, I have the word ‘Christmas’ written 5 times within a sentence. And that’s exactly what we hear, see and feel during this season.
Gurney Plaza has a large crystal ball right outside facing the sea. Within it are the reindeers out of reach. Inside the mall you see snowflakes hanging all over and a stage transformed into a house covered with snow and Santa Claus hovering over the chimney top.

Families, young and old buzzing shopping for Christmas gifts and enjoying the Christmas atmosphere. In Malaysia, half the month of November and whole of December is a school holiday for the school goers, a time to enjoy and relax, regaining new strength for the new year. What do you expect in 2012?

Truly it is and it does not matter what background one comes from but music is able to unite all as one in its own way.
My first stage show at Penang PAC which officially opened on a distinctive date 11.11.11 was an enjoyable one. I admire and enjoyed the Young KL Singer's voices from the start to the end. I may not be very comfortable with certain chants that comes with one of the song however I do enjoy all the song arrangements and harmonious voices throughout the night. The choreography was simple yet it adds sophistication to their performance making it interesting to watch. I could feel their zest and passion in their singing and their expressions, kudos to YKLS and Caprifruta Quartet. I heard from one of the singers that they practice this for a year for this performance.
You may have a preview of their night's performance through their practice as there were no video recording allowed on that night, this is the only youtube snippet of it. Kitten's Head Bitten Off

One fine morning, I went to collect my car from the car workshop and something caught my eye, a headless kitten and a bitch(female dog) standing right next to it. I didn't dare look at the details of the poor kitten as the dog turned her head to look at me. I took out my compact digital camera and took a few shots. If you have a high sensitivity for cruelty of animals, don't look further but honestly I didn't take micro shots so its not that bad. I wondered if the dog really bit off its head or there was a prior car accident. I really don't know but the dog is having a feast with it. Note: Take precaution when taking such a picture, never know if it would prance on you.

Stop Sexual Crimes Against Children

What do we know about the laws that guard the victims of sexual abuse? What is sexual abuse? Recently we had a talk at my church EPCC and the title is Stop Sexual Crimes Against Children conducted by Rosalind Yagambaram, a representative from WCC (Women's Centre for Change). It was to create awareness among us to help prevent more cases of sexual abuse. It is never easy to catch perpetrators of sexual abuse but at least we can help prevent it from happening to an innocent child. Rosalind gave a very comprehensive talk on how to identify the perpetrators, signs and symptoms from a sexual abuse child, what are the laws that protects a child and many more.

It would take 200 years to count 7 billion out loud yet our life span last the most 100 years generally. 7 billion has a lot of zeros,an unimaginable number to relate to number of people. Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried are main stars in this thrilling , action movie. You can live up to 25 years old and then your clocks starts ticking, everything is paid in time,and it is the vital currency that gives you life or takes it away. Although the movie may be unrealistic but it gives you a sense of reminder that time seems shorter these days and we need to value them properly.

A Need for Solitude

There are times we need to prime ourselves to solitude that we may find inspiration. My solitude includes music and prayer and though I may appear like I am lazing around but I am not. If we purpose our nothingness to create something, many times it is one of the best moment we have in the day.

Removing myself from an eventful day at least once a week can be refreshing although I need to sift out worry. Worrying about the wrong things leads to exhaustion of the mind and soon the physical.

Take a day off, request a time alone from your family or take a stroll down the beach where no one can disturb you. And not forgetting our smartphones and laptops. Which reminds me I am going get off my blog now. Good day!

II was intrigued to have a visit the moment I saw a write up on Ibox ~ Museum of Glass in the The Star. A few of us went after a stroll at Pulau Tikus market one fine day, parked right infront of it and I entered with a sense of curiosity wondering what all of it would like ~ glass museum. Though I saw the pictures in The Star, but you never know till you are there yourself. We were greeted by friendly sales ladies and Julia our tour guide for the day took us and explain some of the processes of how the designs are painted on the glass.There are all sorts of different technique of glass art displayed and there is a jewelry section for the ladies, all made of glass. Clocks, signs, ashtray, soap dish, keychain, souvenirs, signage etc are included.

We all had a friendly debate on whether the last picture you see above is a horse or a cow. Without a doubt,
I said "Horse lah!",Julia said "Some customers said cow, so it is up to your imagination"
Well I never knew cows had that chin structure and with that hair sticking out at the side,I believe it has to be a horse. I would have asked the designers if they were around to prove myself wrong or to prove myself right. Does it really matter? No. The designs on the glasses are very artistic especially the longest batik painting on glass and that made it to the Malaysia Book of Records. I am always proud to promote the achievements of our very own Malaysians.

Then I met my artist for the day after picking out a glass keychain as a souvenir. Her name is Margaret and look what she did for me. Sweet! We were asked to paint our own if we prefer it but I prefer not. I love to doodle but I rather see how a showroom artist does her thing.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Reverse aging is a common and widely used phrase or tagline in this generation however never would anyone think they can really reverse aging. Literally having our age moving from 40, 39, 38, 37, 36 down to maybe 21, that would be an ideal age. There are botox, anti-aging cream, and these will enhance the outer side of us but what if in a blink of an eye, you grow younger and younger by the age and physique. That would be going against the law of nature and definitely against God's creation plan.
Benjamin Button was brought into this world as a over 80 year old baby. Not only was the doctor mad at the talking old 'man', even the nurse reacted in agitation and disgust for baby Benjamin. And the father was going insane by the seconds of the whole ordeal. The story goes on about his life in the reverse gear and his journey through this life and the people around him. I'm in the midst of reading the E-Book but the movie is a mild version from the book. I did enjoy the movie starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. This phenomenal story is well written by F.Scott Fitzgerald and I really hope I do get to finish the book. Maybe you can remember him by his famous book The Great Gatsby.

Goodbye Doulos, hello Logos Hope ! The sister ship of Doulos came for the first time (as far as I know) to Penang around end of August and is leaving in a few days to Port Klang. I visited twice while they were here in Penang. I love books though not as passionate as before,I bought 6 books in two visits. Just love the smell of the pages of the books, causing me to linger longer at the library. The books are reasonable priced and a fair variety of all kinds of books. I am so fortunate to have found some music books, which universities would use for only RM 40. Three books for RM40, which would have cost me a few hundred if I were to buy in other bookshops. So blessed!

I would recommend you to go for the tour of ship to get to know the ship better and to see the different areas of the ship and the mission of this ministry. It is only RM10 per person for a group of at least 9 people.
