Saturday night we went to an 80’s birthday party for Chris’ cousin Erin. We had such a good time and it was fun to see everybody dressed up. I had to post some of the pictures of everybody in their ~~Goodwill~~ 80’s clothes.

My latest Obsession

I started sewing when I was about eight years old. I remember sitting at Grandma Mayme’s sewing machine making simple skirts and shirts for my Barbie dolls. Of course they weren’t very good, but they made me happy.

I haven’t sewn very much in the past twenty years, mainly because I didn’t have a sewing machine. Well my sweet fiancé, Chris, bought me a new sewing machine for my birthday. I have had fun getting back into sewing, and there is so much I don’t know, but I am having fun.

I have made several cell phone sleeves,including some for the girls at work, three camera strap covers, and a laptop cover.

These are some of the cell phone sleeves I made.

Here are the camera strap covers I made. I got the idea for this one from Kevin and Amanda.com.

This is the first one I made and it’s not very good.

Coffee Filter Wreath Tutorial

I was asked to do a tutorial on my Coffee Filter Wreath so here it is. I had planned on doing this, but I hadn’t gotten around to it yet. I used white coffee filters and glitter on my first wreath, but I am using the brown filters and silver glitter for this tutorial. Ever since I found the brown filters I’ve been wanting to make a wreath with them and I thought they might show up better in the pictures. Like I said in my previous post, this is a simple wreath to make, but it is pretty time consuming.

First thing you need to do is cut your filters. Make a cut down the filter and cut out the middle section.

Until you have this…

It doesn’t have to be perfect because nobody will see it.

Next, you cut your coffee filter strip in half.

Do this about 50 times and this step is done..

The next step is to apply your glitter. I like to use two paper plates, one for glue and one for glitter.

Dip the filter in the glue, then the glitter. It takes about two hours to dry before you can put it on your wreath.

Next, you wrap your glittered filter strips around your form and hot glue the ends in place in the back.

After you have worked all the way around your wreath, it gets a little tricky. You have to tuck the last few strips into your first strip. See where my thumb is pointing in the picture? If you cut the filter there, it makes it a little easier to stick in at the end. I didn’t like the way mine looked, so that is the spot where I put the ribbon.

This is what I am using as a wreath form. It is a pipe insulator. I got a pack of four for three dollars at Wal-Mart. Mainly because they didn’t have the styrofoam wreaths, but they do work pretty good.

When I glued the ends together it melted pretty bad, but I covered the rest of the wreath in masking tape and it kept it from melting.

Christmas Wreath

I thought it was about time I show you the Christmas wreath I made. I made this back in October and this is the second wreath I made like this because the first one didn’t turn out, mainly because I didn’t have a wreath form. It is an easy wreath to make, but it is time consuming. I used a wreath form, coffee filters, glitter and hot glue.

I got the “Peace” sign at Wal-mart for $1.

Glitter Sticks

I have been working on decorating our sofa table using blues and glitter and I needed something to add height. I wanted to incorporate my antique urn, and then the idea hit me to make “Glitter Sticks” to put in it.

I trekked out to the yard, in the rain, and collected my sticks. I painted glue on them and then added glitter. Simple, but beautiful.

Christmas Centerpieces

I decided to break out the Christmas decorations early this year. I always wait until after Thanksgiving, but I wanted to get it all done so I could enjoy it.

I’ve been playing around with a few different centerpieces using things I had in the house and I really like the way they turned out.

For this one I used a wooden bowl that I had painted with chalkboard paint, some glitter Christmas balls, and some cut up coffee filters.

I really like the texture the coffee filters add.

For this centerpiece I used an old window, some fake snow, and some snowmen figurines.

I ended up using both sets of snowmen. I plan on adding something else to this like maybe some trees.

I tried using some of the vintage ornaments that use to belong to my Grandma, but I was afraid the cats would break them.

I can’t wait to show you the Christmas wreath I made. I am so excited and I hope you love it as much as I do.

Six Flags

I wanted to share some pictures I took at Six Flags on Sunday. We had a fun and exhausting day riding a lot of roller coasters. My favorite is either The Screaming Eagle or the Old Mining Train and my least favorite (which I will never ride again) is the Tony Hawk Experience.

I had a lot of fun taking pictures of the Ferris wheel.

Happy Halloween

I hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween! We will be spending the day riding roller coasters at Six Flags in St. Louis.

This month has really flown by, but I wanted to show you my Halloween Tree before it was over. I found some branches and vines and painted them black and then stuck them in an old coffee can with rocks to support them. Then I made some flowers out of scrapbook paper to hang on it .

I set the tree up in front of my “ghosts and ghouls” sign.

This is a bad picture, but I wanted to show you the coffee can. I painted it black and glued an orange ribbon on it.

More Fall Decor

I am enjoying the cooler temperatures here in Southern Illinois. I love being able to have my windows open and turn off the air conditioner.
I made this little sign to hang on the front deck. I distressed it more than I usually do, but I like the way it turned out.

I added a little bow for decoration.

Wall Bucket

I’ve been busy working on Fall decor and I remembered I hadn’t shown you my wall bucket yet. I originally got two of these wall buckets at a yard sale for free and I used one for Christmas last year, but hadn’t touched the other one. Here is the before..

It was in pretty rough shape.
And the after….

I painted it brown and rubbed some stain on it and it turned a wonderful copper color.

I picked the weeds out of my yard this morning. Yes I need to mow the yard… I don’t know what they’re called, but I’ve been calling them cat bait since the cats wont leave them alone.

Ghosts and Ghouls

I broke out my fall decor box the other day and realized that I didn’t have nearly enough fall and Halloween decorations. I pulled out a board I had laying around and went to town on it. I love the way it turned out.

The board already had the holes in it, so I strung the ribbon through them and tied it in a knot.

This was my first attempt at making little rosettes, but I really like them.

I was a little lazy and used elmer’s glue at first.

Great Deals

My parents came to town this past weekend to do a little shopping. My mom needed some fabric for a baby quilt she is making so we headed to Hobby Lobby. I made my way over to the sale aisle and was a little disappointed. Usually they have a whole aisle full of stuff on sale, but this time it was really bare. I did find a couple of items that I loved though.

I found this cross for 1.50. It was originally 15.00.

I also found this angel wing for the same price. I love this piece because it can be hung on a wall or you can sit it on a table.

I love how this piece looks old and perfectly aged.

Is it weird that it’s not even Fall yet and I spent last night making a totally cute Christmas wreath?? I hope not …

Fall Subway Art

I made a stop at the Goodwill the other day and found some small canvases. They weren’t really my taste, but I knew I could paint them and they were only 1.58. I think they originally came from Target.

I cannot wait for Fall, it’s my favorite season, so I decided to make some Fall art.

I painted the canvas white and used the leftover part of some scrapbook stickers for a template. I mixed up some orange and green paint for the letters and then applied some watered down stain over the whole thing.

I tried to put in things that I think of when I think of Fall.
Dairy Days is the fall festival in my home town.

Pottery Barn Crates

The other day, I was checking out Pottery Barn online looking for some inspiration and I came across these.

I love these old crates, not just because they are adorable, but because they remind me of my childhood. We had 4 or 5 of these growing up and used them for everything from magazine storage, Christmas card holder, storing cups, and my favorite was to stand it up on it’s side and use it as a doll house for my strawberry shortcake dolls. I still have a RC crate, so you know after seeing it in Pottery Barn I had to break mine out.

So far, I’ve just got some candles,picture frames, and a vase sitting in mine.

Have you seen this candle at Wal-Mart?? I love them.. They smell like Caramel and Coffee and are only 5.00.

I'm off for a day of swimming with Kim and then we're having game night tonight.

Chicago is… my kind of town

We spent a fun weekend in Chicago sightseeing and going to a Bon Jovi concert. We left early Friday morning and got home a little after two this morning. We have had this trip planned since March and it was so worth the wait, but man am I tired. I took a LOT of pictures (378 to be exact) but I won’t make you look through all of them…

I love this band! Bon Jovi was the first concert I ever went to. I went with my cousin Deana when we were about 13.

We went to the Field’s Museum and got to see Sue, the largest T-Rex ever found.

This was taken on Navy Pier. Some nice lady took it for us even though Chris had a Cardinal’s shirt on.

This is why I love Hobby Lobby

This afternoon I ran to the Dollar Store and The Dollar Tree to look around and maybe get inspired, but I didn’t have much luck. I decided to run to Hobby Lobby since I hadn’t been in there for months, and I am so glad I did. All of there home decor items were 80% off! I’ll show you the great deals I found…

I found this cute thing for 1.80. I really wanted a couple more, but they were sold out.

I had been looking for a basket to hold my croquet balls, so I grabbed this one for 3 dollars.

I love this wall hanging for 4.80. I bought it even though it has a hole on the side. I am going to try to fix it and maybe hang it in a corner…

I found this canvas wall art for 6.00 and it was originally 30.00.

This wall hanging is a little different, but I liked it. It was 4.00.

I got this little guy playing the trumpet for my sister, and didn’t realize until I got home that the horn is broke off.

I love it when H.L. has good sales, now I have to figure out where to put everything.

Cardinal’s Game

This year for Father’s Day, Chris’ dad wanted all of us to go to a St. Louis Cardinal’s game. We are all Cardinal fans and we usually go to at least a couple of games a year. As soon as we arrived at the stadium, the clouds looked really bad. It did end up raining for about 10 minutes and the game was pushed back about 30 minutes.

This was taken right after we got to our seats.

I had never noticed that they have a Hardees in the stadium.

This is the view from our seat. Our seats were pretty high, but we could still see everything.

Yeah! The Cardinals won against the Oakland A’s. I can’t remember the score though…

We did a lot of group shots during the day.

After the game, I was able to get some “Artsy” shots outside. I love black and white at night with all of the lights in a city.

Lotawata Creek

This weekend, we headed to St. Louis to watch a Cardinal’s game with Chris’ dad, Mike. On the way, we decided to stop at Lotawata Creek for lunch. I had never been there, but I had heard stories of the large portions and the burgers.

Here’s Mike, Cameron,(Chris’ brother) and Kim waiting to get a table.

This is the delicious appetizer we all shared. It was french fries covered in cheese, bacon, and onions.

Chris, Brian, and I were the only ones who decided to get the burgers (even though I don’t usually eat ground beef) and they were HUGE and delicious.

This is the food we left… It was such a waste of food and we couldn’t take it with us since we were going to the game. Next time Chris and I will be sharing a meal.

First Sale of the Season

I finally made it to my first yard sale this summer! I talked my sister in to going with me, and we spent about five hours going to yard sales in her town and mine. It was sooo hot and my sister's air conditioner in her car is broken, but we survived.

I got four of these old windows for five dollars.

I got the two frames for a quarter a piece, the old pyrex dish for a dollar, and the other thing( I don't know what it's called) for seventy-five cents.

I loved this old chalk board and it was half off of two dollars. I got the old croquet balls for five dollars. I tried to get the price down, but they wouldn't budge.

We picked this chair up for free. We are going to try and fix it up.

Just Beachy!

Lately, I can not get my mind off of the beach. Chris and I have been planning our vacation to Myrtle Beach, and I am so excited. We went last summer and had such a good time.

I recently found this wall art on Ballard Design’s web site. I fell in love with it right away and I knew I wanted it. Of course I wasn’t ready to pay two hundred dollars for it, so I had an idea..

I remembered this huge picture that I had bought at Goodwill. I had tried painting it several times, but I never liked the way it turned out.

Here is my version of the Ballard’s painting. I am not an artist and I know it isn’t perfect, but I am happy with it.

I used scrapbook stickers for the letters and masking tape for the arrow.

I think I’ll touch up the bottom a little. It looks too streaky for me.

Random Things

I forgot I told you I would show you what my parents got me for my birthday. When Chris and I went up to my parents, my mom hadn’t had a chance to get my present yet, so she took me to a new antique shop in town. We spent about an hour in the shop, and they have a lot of nice stuff. The lady running the shop even let us have a look in the back. I found this urn as soon as we went in and new I wanted it.

They had 9.50 on this, but they took eight dollars for it. I didn’t know it was an urn, I thought it was a trophy of some kind. I love it though. If any of you know what it is, let me know.

I like to buy things that need to be fixed up or painted, but I like the old chippy feel of this. I do think I will put a clear coat of polyurethane on it to protect it. I also got a huge fork and spoon set to hang on the wall and some homemade ornaments, but I don’t have any pics yet.

I got this little guy at Hobby Lobby for 80% off. I think it was 6.00 before, and I got it for 2.00. Right now I like the color of it, but I might paint it white later on.

I got these at H.L. too and they were 80% off. I think they were like 6.00 a piece.

Birthday Party

This past weekend Chris and I went to his brother Cameron’s house for his nephew Braxton’s birthday party. Cameron and Elisa have three kids, Brax, Devon, and Brea, and they’re all red headed. I took a lot of pictures, but for some reason most of them came out blurry.

Braxton got a lot of nice gifts and he was very patient and read all of the cards first.

This is Brea right after she woke up, so I couldn’t get her to smile for the camera.

I hope Elissa doesn’t mind, but I had to show you some pics of their house… It’s beautiful.

I thought this little thing was so cute. I believe she said she got it at wal-mart a while back.

We got Braxton a small remote controlled helicopter for his birthday. This picture is what happened when he was playing with it and Aunt Kim wasn’t paying attention and it landed near her head and got tangled in her hair.

Brea loves Minnie Mouse and Snow White and Cinderella. She spent a good part of the party playing with her little dolls.

I think we all had a turn playing dolls with her that day. Here is Uncle Charlie taking his turn. I guess she thought he needed to wear Chris’ hat.

I’m back!

I’m sorry I have been away from blogging for so long. I haven't worked on any projects since Christmas, but the warmer temperatures are getting me back in the crafting mood. Chris and I have had a pretty rough 2010 so far. Like I told you back in January, Chris’ mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She had to travel to SLU hospital every two weeks for chemo and when she was at home she had to have someone stay with her at all times. On March 7th while at SLU, Pat passed away. She developed a blood clot that broke off and traveled to her lungs and slowed her heart rate. It was a shock to everyone, but they are all handling it pretty good.

Besides Pat passing away,

Chris hit a deer. It was a young deer, but it still messed up his bumper and grill.
We have had major sewer problems. I’m sure you don’t want to know all of the details…
We had a $400 water bill and had no idea why, but still had to pay it.

I guess it could be a whole lot worse, so I won’t complain anymore. I am excited to be back blogging again and can’t wait to find new projects to work on. I will be back tomorrow to show you what my mom got me for my birthday.

Thank you all for your prayers for Pat and the rest of the family!!

We just got news from Chris' dad and they found out the tumor is cancerous, but it's the slow growing type. The oncologist sounds pretty hopeful that they can kill the cancer with radiation and chemo.

Have any of you been to Hobby Lobby lately??? I made a quick trip the other day, and they are having some really good sales. They have all of their Christmas decor 90% off and their wall decor items were 60% off. I found a few cute things, but I'll have to show you later.

Did you guys watch American Idol last night? I found it really boring and I miss Paula. I didn't understand why Posh was on there, she just sat there for most of the show.

I've got some cute things to show you if I ever get time to take some pictures.
