OUR OPERATING HOURS: THEY JUST KEEP GETTING LONGER! When Downtown Urgent Care first opened 3 years ago, our weekday hours started with 11am to 6pm. They've gradually extended to mirror the increasing population and the demands of our loyal patients.

Since January 2nd 2012, our weekday hours extended; they're now 7AM TO 7PM, and since just before Thanksgiving, our Saturday and Sunday hours have been extended to 9AM TO 3PM. Our weekday hours are especially popular with the >100,000 working population Downtown, who like to quickly get seen before work and after work, as well as on their lunch hour. Our weekend hours reflect the rapidly increasing residential population, who don't want to sit in an ER for a non-emergency problem on the weekend. That would just be silly! The 'E' in 'ER' stands for 'emergency', not 'everything'. Take social responsibility and avoid the ER unless you really have an emergency. And please, don't get online to get 'in quicker' to an ER - the triage nurses (by definition) all know who needs to be seen first. If you don't have an emergency, please go to an urgent care instead: it just makes sense!

Hidden Valley has opened up two weeks ago and we are happy to partner with them this ski season. We remain the closest urgent care to the resort and are open later than any other urgent care in town, let alone West County.

Our patients really do come first. Being independent of any hospital system, we're hold ourselves to a much higher standard, seeing and treating our patients like people, not numbers.

Remarkable that we just do good work for our patients (the happiest patients in St. Louis) and the media just keep doing stories about us. Why? Because we just rock! That's why. That's also why the hospital-owned urgent cares and ERs need to spend millions of dollars (from the money you pay them) to 'sell' their services to you. Well, now you know. We're just great. Eureka Free Clinic Ends Dec 29th
The 'Eureka Free Clinic' was met with amazing warmth and volunteerism and people offering supplies, all wanting to help out. Alas, we will close up after the holiday, the last day being 12/29/2012. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this clinic possible.

The Eureka Free Clinic is still open today (12/15/11) and the next two Thursdays from 9am-1pm and we are still seeking financial, human, equipment and supplies help to make this lovely new idea a permanent reality. As soon as receive funding, it can become year-round. Until then, we plan to re-open next Thanksgiving.

Our patients really do come first. Being independent of any hospital system, we're hold ourselves to a much higher standard, seeing and treating our patients like people, not numbers.

In Observation of Small Business Saturdays, Downtown Urgent Care has extended its weekend hours and will soon extend weekday hours too!

The Boxing Gym Downtown is offering a startling new promotion, offering membership at only $4.50 per month, starting December 1st, 2011 and ending on Leap Day February 29th, 2012. That's the kind of thing Small Business Saturday is all about. Let's keep it going year round.

Downtown Urgent Care has now lengthened weekend hours from 9am-1pm to 9am-3pm, following significant public demand. We will also be extending our weekdays to 7am-7pm starting January 2nd, in response to those people who've demanded that we be open 'before work' and others who need to come in 'after work'.

Let's do something revolutionary today:

At Downtown Urgent Care, we truly believe that our independence from any hospital system results in a more honest, less profit-driven approach to medical care. We don't suggest hospitalization unless it's really necessary. We don't have beds that need filling. We were amused to notice that some ERs are offering an online advanced web registration service called InQuickER.com which costs the patients $10. So does this mean that when you're having an EMERGENCY that needs you to go to the EMERGENCY room, such as a heart attack, stroke or respiratory distress, before calling 911 you should first sit down at your PC and register online? What genius hospital executive thought this up? Out of the gratitude for the belly laughs this provides ER physicians all over the country, we're going to celebrate by GIVING AWAY $10 for all those who register online with us for their NON-EMERGENCY problem. Small Business Saturday is especially relevant to Downtown St. Louis which prides itself on having an eclectic group of small businesses and, except for Macy's and Schnucks, virtually no 'big box' businesses. One could even argue that our Macy's and Schnucks are the 'baby sister, small-business versions' of their mammoth big brother stores. At Downtown Urgent Care, we truly believe that our independence from any hospital system results in a more honest, less profit-driven approach to medical care. We won't order hospitalization unless it's really necessary. We don't have beds that 'need filling'. Our goal is to maintain good health, and we can proudly say that our local population Downtown, be it residential or employee, is by far the healthiest in the region. Hours Lengthening at Downtown Urgent Care

Starting this Saturday November 19th, the weekend hours will be extended to 3pm. Although we've only been open until 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays for the past 2.5 years, public demand has forced us to proceed with this hours extension. We think it may have something to do with 4 things: the growing residential population Downtown, the growing working population Downtown, the growing number of visitors to Downtown and finally, the increasing realization that an urgent care really is not just a good idea when you can't get in to see your doctor or when you don't want to go to the ER for a non-emergency problem, they're practically a no-brainer.

DR. DAMON CLINES joins the ever-expanding group known as DOWNTOWN MEDICAL SPECIALISTS (DMS). Dr. Clines is a community based board-certified gastroenterologist and has been in practice for 17 years, with special interests in viral hepatitis and colorectal cancer. He studied at MSU and completed his residency, including chief resident, and GI fellowship at St. Louis University, where he still holds a position as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine. Dr. Clines was born and raised in St. Louis County and lives in the Central West End. Dr. Clines will initially hold a GI CLINIC on Thursdays, starting today. "We are excited about being part of the ongoing success in bringing urgent, primary and now specialty, care to the residents and employees of Downtown St. Louis", Dr. Clines said in an email yesterday.

DR. RISHI SHAH also joins the group as a board-certified internist. He did his Internal Medicine residency at St. Louis University, and he too lives in the Central West End, but plans to relocate to Downtown as soon as he can. He is a very keen RAMS fan and never misses a game. Dr. Shah will be working alongside Dr. Saggar in both the internal medicine practice as well as Downtown Urgent Care.

Dr. Clines and Dr. Shah have joined the gradually increasing ranks at DMS.

DR. FRANCIS DYSARZ, hand and upper extremity surgeon with Surgery Specialists of Saint Louis, joined DMS in October 2011, and has a HAND CLINIC every Monday.

Dr. Dennis Timko, a podiatrist with Arch City Foot & Ankle, joined the group in July 2011, and has a FOOT CLINIC every Tuesday.

Dr. Sonny Saggar founded DOWNTOWN MEDICAL Internal Medicine in July 2009, 4 months after opening Downtown Urgent Care. Being the only internist within a 5-mile radius of Downtown St. Louis, Dr. Saggar has rapidly grown his patient base to now exceed 1,200 patients, and it continues to grow. Downtown Medical Specialists has also been involved in teaching medical residents and nurse-practitioner students since summer 2009.

As a recent news report indicated, several other doctors from a variety of specialties will be joining the group over the coming weeks.

$10 FLU SHOTS this week 'FLU FRIGHT FEST WEEK' from Halloween until Guy Fawkes Day!

Starting Monday, October 31st (Halloween), St. Louis Urgent Cares (both facilities, Downtown and Eureka) will be holding a special promotion, with our flu shots being sold for a mere $10, yes we said ten dollars! That's about $20 to $25 less than you'll find it at Walgreens or other urgent cares.

What's the catch? Well, you gotta Pre-Register online (sooner the better) and the offer ends on Saturday November 5th (Guy Fawkes Night), and it'll continue WHILE STOCKS LAST. Don't forget, if you've got some kind of insurance, it's quite likely that your plan covers you for a zero cost preventative flu shot, so you may end up paying nothing. We've contracted with most insurers for this, so just ask us and show us your card when you pop in for your shot.

Allergy Testing Made Easy!

Allergy blood tests look for substances in the blood called antibodies. Blood tests are not as sensitive as skin tests but are often used for people who are not able to have skin tests, or just as a convenience, while they're having their blood drawn anyway for other reasons.

The most common type of blood test used is the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA, EIA). It measures the blood level of a type of antibody (called immunoglobulin E, or IgE) that the body may make in response to certain allergens. IgE levels are often higher in people who have allergies or asthma.

Other lab testing methods, such as radioallergosorbent testing (RAST) or an immunoassay capture test, may be used to provide more information. On Thursday November 3rd, we're holding an OPEN HOUSE for anyone who needs to get allergy testing, or think they might need it. Please fill out these simple questions to see if you might need to get allergy testing.

Dr. William Suk, Medical Director at Eureka Urgent Care, plans to launch a free medical care session starting every Thursday, in the beginning of November, from 9am-1pm. Anyone without insurance is welcome to be seen and evaluated by a board certified physician. Service will be provided based on the resources that are available, including x-rays and simple procedures.

Dr. Suk has long aspired to start such a service as a way of giving back to the community, Patients will be seen on a first come, first served, basis. If a patient's condition cannot be treated at the facility or indeed if they are an emergency, they will be referred and/or transported to higher levels of care, such as an Emergency Department.

"I have met a lot hard working decent people that lost their jobs and health insurance that deserve quality medical care", Dr. Suk said. "Starting in November and working through the holidays seemed to be the most fitting thing for us to do, and we hope to continue this free medical care day past the initial 2 months."

Eureka Urgent Care is located at 623 West Fifth Street in Eureka (nextdoor to Pizza Hut). The facility launched in March 2009, as a sister clinic to Dr. Sonny Saggar's Downtown Urgent Care, which has been met with tremendous success in the booming heart of the city. Dr. Saggar is CEO of St. Louis Urgent Cares, the urgent care network that seeks to expand from the present two, to six facilities over the next 2 years. St. Louis Urgent Cares GIVE THE BEST FLU SHOTS IN CITY AND COUNTY!

It's official: our shots hurt the least, compared with any other facility (urgent care, doctor's office or Walgreens); some people say they don't even hurt at all! In an unscientific survey, we did an exit poll on those receiving flu shots at both our facilities and we got the same reaction, when asked whether the shot hurt. "It wasn't just the shot that didn't hurt - the fact that I could just walk right in, get my shot and be out within 5 minutes during my lunch hour, was just amazing", said one person. St. Louis Urgent Cares: It's never too early to get flu shot. As students ring in a new school year, parents and physicians are reminded of another fall fact: flu season is right around the corner.

"It's not too early to get the vaccine," Dr. Saggar at Downtown Urgent Care and Eureka Urgent Care, says. The CDC advocates getting your shot as soon as it's available. It's going to be the same drug whether you get it now or in November. The only difference is that you'll be immune sooner and for a longer period of time. With insurance, these shots are typically fully covered. Without insurance, you can get them either Downtown or Eureka NOW for just $24, which is a whole lot cheaper than some big name drug stores, including Walgreens. Stay ahead of the game by getting the vaccine now for both you and your family. The peak season for influenza (flu) typically runs from December to February. So, to avoid the year-end rush to vaccinate, plan ahead. REGISTER ONLINE HERE TO GET YOUR FLU SHOT AT EITHER LOCATION.

"If you think about the holidays, they fall in these time frames and a lot of people gather with family and friends and we don't tend to be outdoors as much". As a result of the H1N1 outbreak in 2009/2010, parents are more on guard. We get worried one year and then complacent the next. Guess what's happening this year.....

"We never know exactly what the flu season will look like as far as what type of flu but we do know there will be a flu season every year". Vaccines for the flu are not limited to just infants and the elderly. Almost everybody can get them now and they should! "It's not just for the young. It's not just for the old. It's not just for the chronically ill. It's for all of us". Flu shots usually last about a year and take two weeks to kick in. So get yours now and be covered for the entire season. Someone once said 'God only helps those who help themselves'. So I took it upon myself to open much needed medical facilities in areas where they were needed. I jumped in where others feared to tread - even the big hospitals. Guess what? They're all doing it now.

Less Is More

Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day, especially if you're trying to control the weight. Although people tend to eat a set number of calories for lunch and dinner, big breakfasts may lead to bigger meals all day long. So knock down your daily calorie intake by better portion control in the morning. You don't want to skip breakfast altogether, as that just sets you up for overeating later.
A light, low-calorie breakfast will help you snack less later on but still help you feel satisfied at the start of your day.

Oh can anyone tell me how I can get in to see my doctor?
Maybe you should try seeing a physician who can actually see you right away. Call us crazy if you want, but we understand that the product we sell at St. Louis Urgent Cares is something called 'patient satisfaction'. Perhaps you've heard of it. Perhaps you even got some once, maybe even twice, in your life. Faceless hospitals claim they're available to you, but how many won't make you wait hours for..... well, pretty much anything? A third of a year and stronger than ever!
We've been open in Eureka almost 4 months and we're overwhelmed with the support our local community has given to us. We never imagined we'd be this popular. Perhaps it has something to do with our late opening hours, or is it our online preregistration? Maybe it's because all our physicians are ER docs (who are comfortable with all urgent illnesses and injuries). Perhaps it's because we take all insurance plans and payment choices, no matter how gold-plated or otherwise. Or could it be because our staff is so wonderful and caring, always remembering our motto: "treat them all like family".

Yep, we're doing it again. The first 100 online registrations for a school or sports physical will just cost you a dollar. Normal price is $35. This is only for those aged 18 or younger and attending school. You should bring your forms with you, or we can use a generic one at our clinic. Ideally, you should also bring your vaccination record with you too. Remember, all physicals must be pre-registered ONLINE using this form.

We listen to our patients and friends. You said, "We love you, but you do send a LOT of emails", so we listened and made a change. We are pleased to announce that we have changed the format of our newsletters to combine DUC and EUC news into one mailing that will go out twice per month instead of weekly. Our goal is to inform you of medical news, company events, as well as interesting and fun things to do in St. Louis.

Downtown Urgent Care is creating a new seat on the Board of Directors. The successful candidate would regularly attend board meetings, make a serious commitment to participate actively in furthering the mission of Downtown Urgent Care and its integral position in Downtown St. Louis.

Apple Came To Town
Over 3 days, the technology giant APPLE INC., choosing us over hundreds of other businesses, interviewed our staff and took thousands of pictures of our team in action at both locations, using iPads to register, triage, manage and prescribe for our patients. They'll be highlighting the entire package on the Apple website next month. We'll send you the link when it's out!

Eureka Urgent Care Proudly Supports Six Flags Visitors
Located just 3 minutes drive from the Six Flags exit, Eureka Urgent Care is an obvious choice for visitors to Six Flags St. Louis Theme Park. By teaming up with Six Flags, we intend to do everything we can to keep park visitors safe and help them quickly in the event of illness or injury. When checking in at the park, guests will receive our "Summer Tips" card. Hang on to this card and put it on the fridge for quick reference during the hot season. Regardless of how you spend your summer break, Eureka Urgent care and Downtown Urgent Care can keep you healthy and ready to play!

Archimedes 5K Run Welcomes 100 Runners

A rainy Sunday morning did not keep runners away from Kircher/Route 66 State Park. Dressed either in running gear or togas, fun loving community members joined lead sponsor Eureka Urgent Care and the Eureka Parks and Recreation for the inaugural 5K Fun Run. In addition to awards for 1st-3rd place, medals for best toga, childrens' dash winners and a raffle for an Apple iPad were announced.

Why are Downtown Urgent Care and Eureka Urgent Care hosting a visit from technology giant Apple Inc.?

St. Louis— Downtown Urgent Care (DUC) & Eureka Urgent Care (EUC), will be hosting technology giant, Apple Inc.'s visit to Downtown St. Louis.

On May 10-12^th

Apple representatives and their camera crew will shoot footage of the urgent care’s daily operations using a revolutionary combination of the 'dr chrono' EMR (electronic medical record) software and the Apple iPad. The visit will then be used by Apple to demonstrate how the iPad and EHR software work seamlessly in a medical setting. Apple hopes to portray DUC and EUC as great example of how medical is superior and functional on the iPad.

Downtown Urgent Care & Eureka Urgent Care (together, part of the company St. Louis Urgent Cares, UCSL LLC), are the first urgent care facilities to use “dr chrono” worldwide. “dr chrono” is a dynamic medical software company that provides the core EHR platform, scheduling, patient reminders and billing system that every practice needs. “dr chrono” has been working closely with DUC and EUC to enhance and further develop the EMR software. Physicians and clinical support staff have discovered improvements in time management and patient flows and generally greater efficiencies, as a result of integrating “dr chrono” software into their daily practice.
