Beaded Row Counter Bracelet

I have a couple of photos to share from our December meeting, but I wanted to pass along the information for the Beaded Row Counter Bracelets that we talked about. Like Connie mentioned, I made one for her a couple of years ago, and thanks to the magic that is Ravelry, I was able to track down the actual site that had the directions that I followed. You can find the full materials list and instructions here if you are interested.

The bracelet is not very difficult to make, the elastic ring is fiddly as are the closures, but nothing a little patience can't handle. If anyone decides to make one and needs help, let me know...and of course, we'd all love to see a finished one if you do!

Barley, Espresson and Oatmeal Afghan complete!

I brought this to the meet up a few months back when I had just started it. I wanted to show you the completed afghan. This ended up with the border to be 57" by 41" so it's a nice size afghan for keeping warm on the couch for a snooze on a lazy day. I am giving it to my son Justin for Christmas so he can keep warm on those cold snowy days in New York! I think it looks very manly.

Our June Meet-Up

We had two new needlecrafters at our June meeting in addition to Wendy, Kim and I (Rose). Michelle came armed with crochet hooks and yarn, determined to learn how to crochet. Though I'm right-handed and she's left-handed and I'm not the best teacher, she left the meeting doing a good job of chain and single crochet stitches. She plans to come back next month to build on her skills and to learn about granny squares. Hopefully more of you will get to meet her then!

My son also came prepared. He recently expressed interest in learning to knit and I couldn't get to A.C. Moore fast enough to pick him up a spool knitter. He is SLOWLY showing progress as, at 6 years old, he doesn't stay focused for very long. He was VERY excited to attend his first knitting meeting!

While we sat Wendy continued to work on her cabled afghan and Kim was busy working on a pink bunny for a new baby.

We had a nice meeting and missed those who couldn't make it!

I was so excited to join the Knit Nuts group today as for the last few meetings I was unable to attend. We had a nice group of 7 ladies today and we all had a nice time.

Kim was working on some charity crocheted angels and even had a customer of the coffee shop come over and try to purchase it from her.
She also had this very cool muslin bag from the BagSmith company to keep her fiber goodies in that I thought was just so cool.

Kim's mom Joan was crocheting a very pretty baby blanket out of different colors of yarn and the picture doesn't do it justice. It was very soft and the yarn also had iridescent fibers running thorough out that gave it a shimmering effect.

Rose brought her very pretty "yarn bowl" that she had just purchased which even has her name on it. She also brought in the cutest little desk made out of cardstock for her son Thomas to give to his teacher. He had written her a note that Rose adhered to the top inside of the desk. Just too cute!

Rose was knitting on a scarf where she was holding 2 yarn fibers together, one of which was stainless steel.

Wendy was knitting on her afghan which was gorgeous! She will have panels like this that she will seam together for the afghan.

Amanda was crocheting some baby charity blankets for infants that are born deceased and are so small they don't fit in clothing. These are something very special to the parents of these little angels. (sorry no pic)

Amanda also brought in this teddy bear she knit for her daughter with an outfit to match.

I brought in my sideways knitted baby sweater to show that I had been knitting since I had last visited with the Knit Nuts. All the girls agreed that this was definitely a 2T to 3T sweater.

February Meet-Up

Hi everyone! As always, we had a great meet-up in February filled with lots of fiber fun and yummy coffee drinks.

Wendy was working on a VERY cute doggie sweater. Loved it!

And Wendy's mother Joan was very focused on a beautiful scarf project. She works so fast I almost thought she'd be done by the end of the meeting!

Debbie was working on the leg of a doll...can't wait to see it finished! (Everyone knows how much I love a good toy project).

Cindy brought along her Sock Yarn Cinema yarn for January...the movie was Moulin Rouge and the yarn was really gorgeous. The socks she's knitting with it are going to be fabulous!

Amanda had a gorgeous shawl with a very tricky crochet stitch that she was working on, but I didn't get any good photos of her working on that...but I can't wait until she finishes so we can post a finished photo of it...the stitch is stunning, and I know she'll love having it completed! She also showed us some gift cloths that she had made.

Then Cindy showed some yummy Malabrigo cowl and fingerless glove set! She may have to set her air-conditioning up high so she can use them some more...they felt sooo soft! And the color was beautiful!

I brought along my Woodland Spring Shawl that I had made with my Sock Yarn Cinema yarn based on the movie Twilight. I didn't get any photos with me in them though, I worked on slipper pieces when I wasn't talking, touching, drinking and taking photos.

It was so much fun ladies, I look forward to seeing all of you soon!

It's a new year and I'm looking forward to what it holds! Are you?

We met this past Saturday to share some fiberliciousness...here are a few photos.

Here is Amanda showing us her completed teddy bear blanket for her daughter. She proclaimed she would never make another one of these! Way too many ends to weave in.

This is Joan on the left and she and her daughter Kim, have been visiting with us for months. Kim is sitting on the other side of her mom. Anyway, Joan brought her other daughter Wendy on the right to visit with the Knit Nuts!

This is Aura showing us her cute little owl hats that she made for her grandsons. They are just too cute! We enjoyed Aura's visit as she rarely gets to come due to her new job at the library. They moved her from the Mint Hill branch :( way out to the University area.

This is my sweet friend Gail. She has met with the Knit Nuts before but it had been awhile. She came armed with her knitting needles to knit a dishcloth. We helped to get her started on a new pattern called "Diagonal Beestitch Cloth" and she learned a new stitch! K1RB which is knit one into the row below.

I am so sorry that I don't have any pictures of our Christmas meetup which we had at my home the Saturday before Christmas. We had such a wonderful time together. We had decided to have a cookie swap as well for those that wanted to participate and everyone really enjoyed that.

I had the punch and Rose, Cindy and Debbie brought other to eat goodies.

We also sampled our cookies. Rose had made each of us a set of stitch markers and Debbie made us all a dishcloth.

Joan had made us each a very pretty flower corsage that pins to our coats or sweaters. I had some Paton bags for everyone to carry their goodies home in.

We really had a great time and if I have left something out, please someone log in and edit this post and let us know!

I appreciate all of you ladies that take time to meet each month. It's nice to share our love of fiber together!

I'm looking forward to the new year with you all!

This was our second meetup at The Coffee Garden. We really love the set up that they have and how we can all join in a circle to knit and crochet and share great conversation along with coffee and fiber.

I am so behind in keeping up with our Knit Nut blog and so I'm trying to update at least the photos that I have for some of the past meetups. This was our first meetup at The Coffee Garden in Mint Hill. We had always met at Dilworth Coffee at Hoods Cross Roads before and enjoyed meeting there for some time. However, we decided to move our meet ups out to Mint Hill and The Coffee Garden. So if you want to join us, stop by on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 2-4 pm. We'll be there!

We had a great group come out this past Saturday to share in some fun fiber projects. We also had 2 new ladies that had been invited to our group by Debbie.

We all want to give a warm "Welcome" to Kim and her mom, Joan!

Kim brought in this baby blanket called Knit Diamond Blanket that she was working on...

It is a Bernat pattern and you can find the pattern here, however you do need to sign up to be able to get the pattern. Kim's mom, Joan started on this dishcloth pattern which she was modifying to be a baby bib.

By the end of the meeting she had completed the bib! What a fast crocheter! You can find her project pattern here. Again you'll need to sign up at the Sugar and Cream site to see the pattern.

Pat had brought 2 twirly scarves she had completed to show us. The pattern is called The Belle Scarf and you can find that pattern at Lion Brand's site and on Ravelry here.

Rose brought in her completed baby bibs to show us. She also designed the pattern, it's called Southern Belle Bibs! You can find her pattern for sale here on Raverly! She was also knitting the Easy Top-Down Raglan. I don't think the pattern is available online yet, as it is a project knit-a-long with Susan B. Anderson.

Rose also brought along her NEW pink Jordana Paige knitting satchel she got for a great deal at an area yarn store.

Amanda was knitting on a February baby sweater for her daughter, but she also brought her completed Summer Petals Cardigan that she had made for herself. So pretty! You can also find her pattern notes on Ravelry here.

Debbie and I both were working on dishcloths. Debbie was working on a corner to corner Grandma's Favorite with attached border. Around this time of year I start making tons of them to share with family and friends at Christmas. I had learned to waffle stitch crochet and find that the stitch makes great dishcloths. I also learned a new stitch called the beestitch. It's wonderful for dishcloths. You can find both a regular beestitch cloth here and a corner to corner one here. Below on the left is one of my corner to corner beestitch ones and on the right a waffle crochet one.

Our next Knit Nut meetup is scheduled for October 16th from 2 -4 pm and we are going to meet at The Coffee Garden which is at the corner of Stevens Mill Rd. and Lawyers Rd. I'll send more details before the meetup.

Knit Nut Time Again!

The Knit Nuts were back with a good size group for the June meet-up. Pat, Suzanne, Cindy, Sandy and I (Rose), all gathered together.

Pat was working on a charity shawl.

Suzanne was working on a baby blanket that needed to be done as soon as possible for a baby shower...

Cindy was working on a sock...

...and Sandy was working on a Bernat blog project.

I worked on a baby blanket as well. We decided that with the July 4th holiday in 2 weeks we wouldn't want to meet up again before next month's meeting on the 17th. The coffee shop owner spoke with us and explained that she needed contact information from those Nuts who made coffee cozies so she could settle up...and that we could make more to sell (about 5-6 per person max). And that's the highlights...thank you to the Nuts who came out, I enjoyed the conversation and seeing some finished projects! And for those who weren't able to make it, you were missed!

Our Knit Nut group had a nice turnout even though it was the week before Christmas. Here are some photos of some fun at the meeting. Merry Christmas everyone!

Robin one of our Knit Nuts had some exciting news to tell us...can you guess what the news was?

Tooting Shandeh's Horn!

I just wanted to post on our group blog about Sandy's great dedication to her knitting and to her generosity in helping out someone she didn't even know, to knit 3 beautiful stockings for her.

Donna joined our group a few months ago when she met my hubby at Michaels and he referred her to me. We met at the coffee house and I got her started on her Tiramisu Blanket for her soon to be grandson. Even though this was her very first time crocheting she finished in record time and did an awesome job.

Then we were talking and she had this vintage Christmas stocking that her son had when he was little. She wanted one for her soon to be grandson but didn't know how to knit and she had no idea of how to find the pattern and wondered if she could pay either me or someone I knew to knit one for her. I checked on Ravelry and found the pattern easily, now to find someone willing to knit one? So the first person I thought of was Sandy and I gave Donna her email address so she could contact Sandy and work out the details. Well Sandy took on the challenge and knit not only one but three stockings for her!

The Knit Nuts met yesterday at Dilworth Coffee to share some good conversation and projects. We had a great time and our group increased by two! Welcome to Amanda and Donna, both of whom were vistiting us for the first time.

Our newest member Donna was working on her Tiramisu Baby Blanket...

We missed some of you other regulars and hope that you'll get to come next month! This meetup we had in attendance.... Pat, Amanda, Suzanne, Rose, Donna, Pam and me (Connie).

I was knitting on my Daffodil Afghan which will be a wedding gift for Katie who is my daughter's friend. I think I got one whole row done...LOL I didn't get a picture at the meeting, but here is one I took earlier.

Here is a close up of Donna's Tiramisu. Oh and this is Donna's first ever crochet project! It's looking FAB Donna!

Pat was knitting an afghan and was there to offer knitting and crochet advice to those that needed help. I always enjoy seeing what afghan or wrap Pat is currently working on.

Rose brought several FO's to share... a pretty lined Counterpane Accessory Pouch

and her beautiful February Sweater...which for some reason got lost while uploading to my pc. Click on the name and you can see her in it at her Ravelry notebook. Rose was especially proud of the zipper for her Counterpane Pouch and it was nicely lined too.

Rose also showed us her newest Cinema Club Yarn purchase.

Rose was working on her newest WIP called Botanica Medallion Cardigan, here is a photo of it on the front of the magazine and another photo of what she has completed thus far.

She was using 100% cotton because she wasn't sure the largest size would fit her and wanted it to stretch out a bit in wearing. Great idea Rose! This gorgeous pattern will make that cotton shine!

Amanda showed us the prettiest little dress that she had crocheted for her daughter, the pattern is called Banana Split. Amanda is also on Ravelry and as soon as I get the link to her notebook page on Ravelry I'll put it in the sidebar! Oh and Amanda was also starting I think what was her first knitting attempt using circular's! A Ballband dishcloth.

Pam arrived and was starting a crochet dishcloth. She completed about half of it at our meetup. She also had a delicious sammy. Dilworth Coffee has great sandwich's.

Pam also showed us her new hair extensions. She is working at a salon in Mint Hill and is learning to apply them.

Suzanne had almost completed the Tunisian Short row coaster and brought in her completed Soaker Baby Bib to show us. She was also starting a new crochet dishcloth.

I didn't want to forget Rose's baby socks. These were her first 2 at a time socks! Great job! Pam asked why they were a different color and Rose explained that the different colors helps you to learn the magic loop, 2 at a time method.

As you can tell we were just buzzing with knitting and crocheting and had a perfect afternoon of fibery coffee house bliss!

We had a great group this past Saturday and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sharing our projects.

My camera was losing battery power so I only got a few photos.

Rose brought her sweater to show off. I believe this was the last project she needed to complete from the book that she was making every project from.

Cheryl was knitting on her large stitch scarf, which was so pretty. I think she actually finished it during the meeting.

Aura showed us this cute little crocheted baby beanie! I love the colors!

Pat was knitting this pretty blue afghan. I think she is almost finished with it.

Our newest Knit Nut Suzanne was crocheting this adorable baby blanket. The yarn was so soft and I love the color of the yarn.

I enjoyed very much watching Cheryl working on her glove. I have always found or thought that knitting a glove would be difficult. I think I did try it once and found the part of knitting the fingers difficult. We all have our strengths and weaknesses even in knitting.

Larissa has a gift for feeling the yarn....LOL.

Connie is not intimidated by large projects.

Pat has a heart for knitting for charity.

Rose is super good designing and working with different color yarn. I'm not saying this right. She created on her own the Super Man logo for her son's sweater.

Anyone who feels like adding to this post do so....Ok?

Spring Like Weather in February

What a nice surprise it was to see Larissa join the Knit Nuts on this beautiful spring-like afternoon. She commented she had not been in a year. Hope she does not stay away that long this year. Larissa, you are a lot of fun to be around. I loved hearing her say: "I don't feel this yarn", as she was knitting something and was not happy with it. I suggested she do a drop stitch scarf with the beautiful yarn she brought.

Connie brought everyone a Valentine heart filled with mini but useful and practical knitting/crochet tools and candy too. Thank you Connie. Thanks to Pat for the candy and to Aura for the banana bread.

Rose brought quite a few projects she has completed. We all fell in loved with all of them.

Connie proudly displays her crochet creation. A lot of piecing is involved but she is not minding that one bit. This project is going fast.

Pam working smoothly on something special and being able to talk to Rose at the same time. She did not do the Pam thing (ripping) to my knowledge during this meeting.

Cheryl brought her adorable sock monkey who made friends with Aura's gnome. Hopefully, Connie will post their picture.

Janice was also working on her crochet baby blanket, I think....Pat worked on one her shawls and smiled pretty during this meet up.

Robin brought her finished baby crochet blanket and shared about not being totally happy. We all reassured her that it was beautiful and will keep someone warm and snug once all wrapped up. We all learn something with every project.

This past Saturday we had 9 ladies that were able to come and share some knitting and crocheting!

We had an awesome time together and enjoyed seeing some completed projects as well.

Cheryl and Aura showed off their recent FO's. Cheryl brought the Sock Monkey that she

designed herself and Aura showed off her Christmas Gnome.

Cheryl also brought her little Alien. Rose brought in her fab Bella's mittens that she had

reworked to include a peek-a-boo slot so that she could easily get her fingers out to use her cell.

She also brought in her latest buddy bag and her Scarf with a Pocket.

I (Connie) had brought my completed Maxi and the beret I designed to go with it.

Pat had brought in her Granny Square afghan to show Robin.

Robin brought her (finally) LOL completed pink and white baby blanket and had already

started on another yellow one. This time working it in the round.

We then settled in to work on our projects. Pam was knitting her mom's sweater that she is planning to give her on Mothers Day. I was working on my Prairie Afghan. Larissa was working on her Milkweed Project and then also started a red drop stitch scarf. Robin was crocheting her yellow baby blanket with her usual invented crochet stitch! Cheryl was busy on another Alien and Janice was starting a Tiramisu Baby Blanket. I know Aura was working on something but I can't remember what? Sorry Aura! She really was up and walking around most of the meeting visiting with each of us and taking photo's not only for us, but for the group next to us as well that was having I think a baby shower.

During our meeting Larissa had shown me her knitting bag where she had crocheted some yarn over the handles because her bunny had chewed them up. This was such a clever idea! So I had to come straight home and do the same to my straw bag. I also added some yarn around the top edge. Thanks Larissa for inspiring me!

We (Connie, Pam, Pat, Aura, Larrisa, Rose, Robin, Janice and Cheryl) really had a nice time and the weather was nice and mild and sunny and it was a perfect day to sit and knit!

Knit Nuts share their Cheer at Connie's

Our December meeting at Connie's was full of cheer and laughter. I don't think anyone got much accomplished. There was just too much going on. We all gathered in Connie's kitchen and later on in her beautifully decorated den to enjoy the fellowship and delicious food. Connie prepared some very healthy recipes (veggie pasta salad with pomegranate and roasted chick peas.) She also made a very tasty and sweet pumpkin dessert. The hot artichoke and spinach dip made by Aura was pretty good, too. Thanks for all the goodies provided to make this meal extra special.

Our hostess Connie received this dishcloth from Pat -- Her Pat (hubbie) will enjoy it too. You can't ever have enough of these.

Delicious refreshments were enjoyed by all present.

Robin brought a pair of the cutest flamingos to decorate the table.

The door prizes were tucked under Connie's tree. Everyone present received beautiful and unique surprises that brought smiles to their faces.

Welcome Cecile and Janice

Welcome Cecile and Janice

The Knit Nuts welcomes Cecile and Janice who joined us with their knitting projects. They would both like to learn to crochet in the near future. Cecile is currently working on fingerless gloves which she is making for her friend Nuns who live in Wales, England. Janice is working on a beautiful lacy scarf which she is making for one of her child's teacher.

Pam is almost done with her Tiramisu baby blanket and it looks great. I showed her how to do the double crochet which she is doing around the border.

Speaking of double crochets I've been working designing baby caps. I'm in the process or writing the pattern and these caps are made in no time because they are worked with double crochets. It was helpful to use Connie's doll as a model. This doll is about the size of a 2 month old baby.

Connie shared how she made modifications to the pattern she is using and is happy with the results of knitting in the round. How many rows did you get done during our meeting? Connie is loving her yarn bowl which keeps the yarn in place and flowing just right.

I certainly did not get very far on my reindeer. I'm making this crochet reindeer for an upcoming Ornament exchange at the Library. So far I'm understanding the pattern.

Robin made progress working on her crochet baby blanket and take one look at the ball of yarn she is using. It's big and so fluffy. Some of us had to reach for it and touch it.

Easy Baby Hat from the top - down

I have been working on different styles of Pixie hats since my daughter said she would like to have one for photographing newborns. Check out her Touched Photography site. She does quite well. Anyway some of my baby hats have been coming out huge. Connie shared with me a technique, I'm not really sure what it's called. The hat is knitted from the top down to the brim.

Using sport weight yarn and a circular needle size 5 ( you can also use straight needles since this hat is really not knitted in the round, I just like to work with the needles connected. I started casting on 4 stitches. To make the long cord follow the pattern.

R1 - Knit 1, slip 1 - ending with a slip 1 and turn.
Repeat this row until the desired length

You will need to make increases starting at the crown until you have the desired width. I made 6 increases every third row. I stopped increasing when I had 68 stitches. For a smaller hat increase less stitches. At this point you can transfer your stitches to a 16 inch circular needle. You will then turn your work so the knitted stitches are facing you. If you make a hat using this technique you avoid using the double point needles or the magic loop technique. As you work back and forth you are basically creating a pocket.
