Make List View Using K2 Developer in SharePoint 2013 Online

The Record Perspective allows the customer to make a Perspective that will be used to show details of details.

I have a custom list named “K2 Workflow Tutorials”. We will see how to create a list view using K2 Designer for “K2 Workflow Tutorials” list.

Navigate to the custom list. Click List tab and then click on Application button under K2 section in the ribbon interface. Click New, then click View.

Click Next button in the K2 Designer.

Enter the Name, Description and select List View as View Type. After that click on Next button.

Click Create Labels and Controls.

Select the layout, edit and additional options, then click Ok button.

List view will be created successfully with all the options (Add, Edit, Delete Save and Refresh).

List View Settings:

Click on Finish button.

Navigate to the custom list. Click on List tab and then click on Application button under K2 section in the ribbon interface. Click on New and then click on View. In the category tree, expand K2 Designer - All Items, SharePoint 2013, then , Lists, K2 Workflow Tutorials and click My Sample List View. Click on Check In to check this view in.

Click on Run to run this view.

My Sample List View will be displayed as in the following screenshot:

I have a custom list named “K2 Workflow Tutorials” in which I have created a List View. We will see how to enable anonymous access for a list view using K2 Designer in SharePoint 2013 Online.

Navigate to the custom list. Click on List tab and then click on Application button under K2 section in the ribbon interface. Click on New and then click on View. In the category tree, expand K2 Designer, All Items, SharePoint 2013, => Lists=> K2 Workflow Tutorials, then My Sample List View. Click on Edit to edit this view. A pop up displays to check out the view. Please click on Yes button to check out the view. In the properties section expand Advanced and then select the checkbox for Anonymous Access.

Click on Finish button. Check in the list view. Anonymous access will be enabled successfully for the list. Right click on the list view in the category tree section and then click on Properties.

Obtain the Runtime URL which allows the users to access this view without passing any credentials.

Sharepoint website server (SPP afterwards) provides a set of COM API that can be used to accessibility its performance from .NET programs via COM Interoperability (Interop afterwards). In this post, I will explain to you how to transfer SPP performance in your .NET system.

Looking for the Reuse Bin in SharePoint 2013? You won't find it in its past location (Quick Release with the All Website Contents).

In a SharePoint site, the Reuse Bin provides short-term storage space for all products removed from this website. The Reuse Bin can be utilized from the following the Fast Release Bar on the left of the screen. SharePoint provides a two-stage Reuse Bin so products that are removed from the end customer Reuse Bin may still be recoverable from the website selection Reuse Bin by a website selection manager.

First Stage
The Recycle Bin is accessed. On the SharePoint site, click Site Settings and select “Site Contents”. The link is then available from the “Site Contents” page. Alternatively, this can be accessed by adding “/_layouts/15/Recyclebin.aspx” or “/_layouts/15/viewlsts.aspx” to the end of your site's root URL.

Second Stage
The Second Stage Recycle Bin is available to site collection administrators only and can be access from “Site Actions” > “Site Settings”. Alternatively, this can be accessed by adding “/_layouts/15/AdminRecyclebin.aspx” to the end of your site's root URL items.

Go to the Site Collection Recycle Bin:

As a site collection administrator, I go to Site Actions (or the gear) Site Settings in order to get to the Site Collection Recycle Bin link. Click the Site Collection Recycle Bin link as in the following:

When I click on the Recycle Bin link in the Site Collection Administration section of the Site Settings page I am taken to the Site Collection Recycle Bin page. Go to the Site Collection Recycle Bin as in the following:

From here I can see all the products that have been removed and are seated in the first level or end customer Reuse Containers, as well as those that have been removed from those places and are now seated in the second level Reuse Bin. I follow the weblink "Deleted from end customer Reuse Bin".

SharePoint 2013 Mistake 401 Illegal on /_layouts/15/start.aspx

I experienced this mistake these days, along with a log concept in the ULS saying: cannot discover website search details for demand Uri

When browsing directly to the site home page or any other page it worked perfectly. Just this page /_layouts/15/start.aspx returned access denied error.

I googled googled, and even binged but could not find a solution.

Until it occurred to me – alternate access mappings!!!

It appears I didn’t set the site URL as an alternate access mapping for this web application.

A quick trip to central administration fixed that:

Client on “Configure alternate access mappings”:

Change to your web application:

Click “Edit Public URLs

And add your new header in any of the text boxes:

Done! Now it is operating as expected

In Visual Studio 2012 select File | New Project

Select Templates | Visual C# | Office/SharePoint | SharePoint 2013 – Empty Project

If you don’t see this type of project available then you may need to download and install theMicrosoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012

Provide a name and location for the project/solution and OK

In the SharePoint Customization Wizard Prompt, configure the server to use for developing/debugging. If possible you will want to try and achieve a Sandboxed solution over a Farm Solution due to it’s ability to be able to be reused in more scenarios requiring less permission is the SharePoint environment.

Once the new solution has been created, we can use the new Visual Designer to create the List Definition. Right click the project in the solution explorer and select Add | New Item

Select Visual C# Items | Office/SharePoint | List, provide a name and click OK

Provide a display name for the list. We just want to create a list definition, not an instance of the list; This isn’t an option so what we do instead is go with the “Create a customizable list template and a list instance of it” and we will make some mods to the generated project files to remove the list instance so we are just left with the definition.

You should now see the list instance and definition files in solution explorer.

If you select the SettingsProfile in the solution explorer you will get the new List Visual Designer. Notice the “List” tab, this represents the instance of the list.

Since we only want the list definition, we are going to delete the list instance files from solution explorer. Select SettingProfileInstance, right-click and Delete.

You should now be left with just the list definition, the “List” tab will now be greyed out.

Just for completeness if you are following this through I’ve added a couple of columns to my definition.

Now lets deploy it to SharePoint to make sure it works

Double click the Feature in solution explorer to bring up the feature visual designer and package explorer

Here you can set options such as how the feature appears and it’s scope. For our purposes just confirm the items in the feature include just the list definition files.

Now select the project, right-click and Deploy

Once the solution has been deployed I’m going to navigate to my site in a browser and verify that the new solution has been deployed and the feature activated (by default the solution is deployed and activated, and the feature is scoped at a web level and activated). You should see messages in the Visual Studio status bar to this effect during the deployment.

Everything is now is place for us to create an instance of the list from the definition, so I’ll create a new app and select our Widget Settings Profile app (list definition).

Provide a name for the new list instance based on our custom list definition.

We can now create items in the list and we see our columns coming through that were defined in the custom list definition.

HTML and CSS are the basic pre-requisites for any webpage development without which we couldn’t do anything easily.

Many of the aspirants who dream to be a good web designer need to learn both html and css as their initial step.

Straightly beginning , In this blog I am going to make you feel better with both which we took as our starters.

The primary goal for us at this time is to create a home page for an xyz website with all the layout ,headers ,images and links.Many of the beginners might be looking for this kind of examples,So please follow the simple steps I give you here on…….

Creating a HTML page:

1.First open your notepad .
2.Open file menu in that and click as SaveAs option.
3.Give a filename for it with a .html extension, generally a html file should have a .html extension.
Ex: myFile.html…..which we will work throughout this session.
Oue design would look something like this.

Now copy the following code in to your html page ie…myFile.html

Important points to keep in mind to execute this

See that the filenames have the proper file extensions....ie [.html and .css]
Check whether the css file is properly included in the html page.
Give a proper path to present your image in the html page at <img src="images/xyz.png"/>
It is always recomended to have a separate folders for images and css file that are usen in your project.
The path i mentioned for the image above means an image named xyz.png is present in the images folder of your project.Better save all your files in a single folder.
So,your project should contain

-myFile.html
-CSS(myStyle.css)
-Images(images/xyz.png)

After having all these in your folder ,now open your html file by using any browser .....and gets your final design opened.
Thus you have made your first design using html and css.

To sign in from Facebook into your program you need to have a Facebook app, and then use the following process.

Click on the link: https://developers.facebook.com/apps/?action=create It will open a window like the following image:
Click on the continue button to proceed, a window will appear as in the following:
Enter the code and click on Continue, a web page will appear having an app option; click on "app" to go to the Edit App page; it will look as in the following image:
Enter "Website with Facebook Login" and your website URL
Enter Secure Canvas URL and your website URL.
Click "Save changes".
Now wait for the review of this app to become live and for its use, you'll get alerts/messages.

After you complete your Facebook app now create a new application in Visual Studio and write the following code in your aspx page:

Create Data source Using Desk Developer in Visible Studio room 2012 how?

In Visible Studio room 2012 a new feature is presented known as Desk Developer that is used in Information Application Development. Desk Developer can be used to determine a table graphically. In Desk Developer the Program Lite is used to upgrade the Desk Program meaning. The Program Lite can also be used as an alternative to upgrade or change the Program straight. But there is one essential thing to notice that Desk Developer only appears for the information in SQL Hosting server 2012. You can either create a New Data source or you can change the table or their related development item using Desk Developer and then change to the Program Lite that will allow you to straight change the script that describes this table.

Step 1

Start you Visual Studio 2012 and create a new project using the following:

Now go to the Server Explorer and right-click to add a new database.
Name this database as "Trade" or anything else as you like.

Click the empty row in the Columns Grid to add a new column to the table. Enter "CompanyName" for the "Name" field, "nvarchar (128)" for the "Data Type" and uncheck the "Allow Nulls" field. As you tab away from the fields, notice that the Script Pane is updated immediately.

Add another new column. Enter "Address" for the "Name" field, "nvarchar (MAX)" for "Data Type" and uncheck the "Allow Nulls" field.

Step 4

Now add one more table named "Customer". This time, add the following columns to the Customer table using the Columns Grid. And remember to change the script so that the table's name is [dbo].[Customer]

Step 5

Create one more table named "Products". Add the following columns to the Products table using the Columns Grid. And remember to change the script so that the table's name is [dbo].[Products]

Step 6

Now we will create a new Check Constraint using the Table Designer. The Table Designer's Context Pane gives you the Logical View of the Table Definition like Keys, Constraints, Triggers etc. and also enables you to select an object to highlight its relationship to individual columns.

For the Product table right-click the "Check Constraints" node in the Context Pane of the Table Designer and select "Add New Check Constaint".

Notice that the node count automatically increments by 1.

Click the Script Pane, and replace the default definition of the constraint with the following:

This Constraint will limit the value of ShelfLife to be under 5.

Step 7

Now we will create a Foreign Key reference using the Table Designer.

For the Products table, right-click the "Foreign Keys" node in the Context Pane, and select "Add New Foreign Key" .

Notice that the node count automatically increments by 1.

Click the Script Pane, and replace the default definition of the foreign key reference with the following.

How to accomplish a Super Selection using out of the box routing in SharePoint 2013 and jQuery

I was looking at some specifications from a customer for their new SharePoint 2013 Intranet, and one that captured my eye was wish to have Function pictures on the top routing.

The need was to have a powerful top routing, managed using the SharePoint out of the box routing configurations, but have the capability to add a Function picture and some written text to the selection. Here’s a brief mock-up of what they wanted to achieve.

(Note: Audiencing will still work on these menu’s too!)

When we save this back into the navigation, and then display our page, this is the effect we get when we hover over that particular top level node.

So, how did we actually achieve this? The secret is in the jQuery scripts embedded into the master page (In this demo, I’m just using a content editor web part linked to an external html file to make it easy to test and demonstrate!)

I won’t describe the CSS here as it should hopefully be fairly self explanatory and I’ve commented the jQuery code fairly well. I would say that you can and should condense any JavaScript code that you place into your production environment however for demonstration purposes, this code is spaced out and more verbose than I would write for production.. (tldr THIS IS NOT PRODUCTION CODE!)

How to Set up Three-Tier Village for SharePoint Hosting server 2013

Here we are describing the farm architecture containing the following servers:

Domain(DC1): One computer running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition that is configured as an intranet domain controller.
Database Server (SQL1): One intranet member server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition that is configured as a SQL database server.
Application Server (APP1): One intranet member server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition that is configured as the SharePoint Server 2013 Preview application server.
Web Frontend Server (WFE1): One intranet member server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise that is configured as the SharePoint front-end web server.
Client Machine: One member client computer running Windows 7 Enterprise.

The following architecture diagram explains the farm described above. I am not covering the part of the installation of Windows on servers as well as the domain configurations. Here we are covering only the SharePoint and SQL Server part. All thoughout the document I am using a generic user id and password. You can use a different generic account for production purposes.

Install SQL Server 2012 on Database Server

Install SQL Server Prerequisites
To install the .NET Framework 3.5:

On APP1 (or the computer on which SQL Server 2012 Enterprise is being installed), log on with the Service account.
In Server Manager, click Features, and then click Add Features. This will launch the Add Features Wizard and you will see the Select Features screen.
Select .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features. This will bring up a box that states: "You cannot install .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features unless the required role services and features are also installed.". Click Add Required Features. The box will disappear. On the Select Features screen, click Next.
On the Web Server (IIS) screen, click Next.
On the Role Services screen, click Next.
On the Confirm Installation Selections screen, click Install. This will begin the installation.
On the Installation Results screen, click Close.

Install SQL Server 2012 Enterprise

In this procedure, you install SQL Server 2012 Enterprise.

To install SQL Server 2012 Enterprise
On APP1 (or the computer on which SQL Server 2012 Enterprise is being installed), navigate to the directory that contains the SQL Server 2012 Enterprise binaries and double-click Setup.EXE. This will launch the SQL Server Installation Center.
On the SQL Server Installation Center, on the left, click Installation.
On the right, click New installation or add features to an existing installation. This will launch the SQL Server 2012 Setup.
On the Setup Support Rules screen, click OK. This will close the Setup Support Rules screen and will bring up the Product Key screen. From Specify a free version, select Evaluation. Click Next.
On the License Terms screen, read the Licensing terms, place a check in the box next to I accept the license terms and click Next.
On the Setup Support Files screen, click Install. This will take a few moments to complete. Once this completes the Setup Support Rules screen will appear again.
On the Setup Support Rules screen, click Next.
On the Setup Role screen, select SQL Server Feature Installation and click Next.
On the Feature Selection screen, under Instance Features place a check in Database Engine Services, under Shared Features place a check in Management Tools - Basic and Management Tools - Complete. Click Next.
On the Installation Rules screen, click Next.
On the Instance Configuration screen, click Next.
On the Disk Space Requirements screen, click Next.
On the Server Configuration screen, next to SQL Service Agent under Account Name, Service account and Password.
On the Server Configuration screen, next to SQL Server Database Engine under Account Name, Service account and Password.
Click Next.
On the Database Engine Configuration screen, click Add Current User and click Next.
On the Error Reporting screen, click Next.
On the Installation Configuration Rules screen, click Next.
On the Ready to Install screen, click Install.
On the Installation Progress screen, wait until the installation completes.
On the Complete screen, click Close.
Close the SQL Server Installation Center.

Next we can n verify the installed SQL Server services are running.

To verify that the installed SQL Server services are running:
Click Start, select Administrative Tools, and click Services.
Scroll down to SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) and verify that it has a status of Started.
In Services, right-click SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER), and click Start. This will start the SQL Server Agent.
When this completes, verify the SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER) has a status of Started.
Close Services.

To connect to SQL Server 2012 Enterprise using SQL Server Management Studio:
Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server 2012, and click SQL Server Management Studio.
On the Connect to Server dialog box, under Server Type: select Database Engine.
On the Connect to Server dialog box, under Server name: select APP1 (or the computer on which SQL Server 2012 Enterprise is being installed).
On the Connect to Server dialog box, under Authentication: select Windows Authentication.
Click Connect. This should be successful and the database information will be displayed on the left. The SQL Server Agent should have a green arrow.
Close Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

Configure the Windows Firewall for an inbound rule

On SQL1, log on using the Service account.
From the Desktop, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.
In the tree pane, right-click Inbound Rules, and then click New Rule.
On the Rule Type page, click Port, and then click Next.
On the Protocols and Ports page, type 1433-1434 in Specific local ports, and then click OK.
On the Action page, click Next.
On the Profile page, click Next.
On the Name page, types SQL Server TCP ports in Name, and then click Finish.

Install SharePoint Server 2013 Preview on APP1
In this procedure, you install the prerequisite software components for SharePoint Server 2013 Preview on APP1.

To install the SharePoint Server 2013 Preview prerequisite software:

On APP1, log on using the service account.
Connect APP1 to a network that has Internet access and configure the TCP/IP protocol on the Local Area Connection as needed. The SharePoint Server 2013 Preview prerequisite installer must download and install the components from the Microsoft Download Center.
On APP1, navigate to the location that contains the SharePoint Server 2013 Preview installation files and double-click SharePointServer.exe (for the downloaded evaluation version) or default.hta on the SharePoint Server 2013 Preview product media.
On the SharePoint Server 2013 Preview Start page, click Install software prerequisites.
On the Welcome to the Microsoft SharePoint Products Preparation Tool page, click Next.
On the License Terms for software product page, review the terms, select the I accept the terms of the License Agreement(s) check box, and then click Next.
On the Installation Complete page, click Finish.
On the Installation Complete page, click Finish.

To install SharePoint Server 2013 Preview

Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server 2012, and then click SQL Server Management Studio.
In Connect to Server, click Connect.
In SQL Server Management Studio, in the tree pane, open Security.
Right-click Logins, and click New Login.
In Login - New, Service account and password
In the Select a page pane, click Server Roles.
In the Server Roles pane, select dbcreator, and then click OK.
Close SQL Server Management Studio.
On the SharePoint Server 2013 Preview Start page, click Install SharePoint Server.
On the Enter Your Product Key page, enter your product key as needed, and then click Continue.
On the Read the Microsoft Software License Terms page, review the terms, select the I accept the terms of this agreement check box, and then click Continue.
On the Server Type tab, click Complete, and then click Install Now.
When Setup finishes, a dialog box prompts you to complete the configuration of your server. Ensure that the Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard now check box is selected.
Click Close to start the configuration wizard.
On the Welcome to SharePoint Products page, click Next.
In the dialog box that notifies you that some services might need to be restarted during configuration, click Yes.
On the Connect to a server farm page, click Create a new server farm, and then click Next.

On the virtual machine details page for Mylabad01, make note of the Internal IP Address displayed on this page. This IP address should be listed as 10.0.0.4.

On the virtual machine details page for Mylabad01, click the "Attach" button located on the bottom navigation toolbar and select "Attach Empty Disk". Complete the following fields on the Attach an empty disk to the virtual machine form:

In the Virtual Machine Operating System Selection list, select "SQL Server 2012 Evaluation Edition" and click the button.

On the Virtual Machine Configuration page, complete the fields as follows:

To allow SharePoint to connect to the SQL Server, you will need to add an Inbound Rule for the SQL Server requests in the Windows Firewall. To do this, open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security from "Start" - "All Programs" - "Administrative Tools"

Select the Inbound Rules node, right-click it and select "New Rule" to open the New Inbound Rule Wizard.

In the Rule Type page, select "Port" and click "Next".

In the Protocols and Ports page, leave TCP selected, select Specific local ports, and set its value to 1433. Click "Next" to continue.

In the Action page, ensure that "Allow the connection" is selected and click "Next".

In the Profile page, leave the default values and click "Next".

In the Name page, set the Inbound Rule's Name to SQLRule and click "Finish"

Close the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security window.

In the Server Manager tool, join this server to the domain and restart the server to complete the domain join operation.

After the server restarts, connect again via Remote Desktop to the server's console and login with the local Administrator credentials

In the Server Manager tool, click on Local Server in the left navigation pane and click on the Workgroup option. Join this server to the domain and restart the server to complete the domain join operation.

After the server restarts, re-establish a Remote Desktop connection to the server and logon with the "domain\Administrator" domain user

In the Server Manager tool, click on "Local Server" in the left navigation pane and select "IE Enhanced Security Configuration". Turn off enhanced security for Administrators and click the OK button.

2. On the Networks page, select "Affinity Groups" from the navigation bar.

  - Region: Select the closest Windows Azure data center region to your locale. This is the data center region in which your services will be provisioned. Be sure to select one of the Windows Azure data center regions in which the Virtual Machines preview offer is currently enabled:

Create a new Windows Azure Storage Account.

Virtual Machines that are provisioned in Windows Azure are stored in the world-wide cloud-based Windows Azure Storage service. In terms of high availability, the Storage service provides built-in storage replication capability, where every VM is replicated to three separate locations within the Windows Azure data center region you select. In addition, Windows Azure Storage provides a geo-replication feature for also replicating your VMs to a remote data center region.

Create a new Storage account by clicking the "+NEW" button on the bottom toolbar in the Windows Azure Management Portal and then select "Data Services - Storage - Quick Create".

Complete the following fields for creating your Storage account:

URL: Enter a unique name for your new storage account, such as MYlabstor01
Region/Affinity Group: Select the Affinity Group you created above.

The following software will be installed and integrated for this setup: Visible Studio room Team Foundation Hosting server 2012, SQL Hosting server 2012 Business, Windows Hosting server 2012, and Visible Studio room 2012 Ultimate, Windows 8 Business x64, SharePoint Hosting server 2013, SharePoint Designer 2013 (64-bit) Preview, and Oracle Virtual Box.

Note that in this article I did not use SharePoint 2013 Preview. This setup uses the actual SharePoint 2013 RTM version and is not a later "rename" so you can be guaranteed that all the situations experienced and workarounds made herein all come from, and was done for, the RTM version of SharePoint 2013 from the time this article was first written.

My own way of setting-up a SharePoint 2013 development virtual machine wherein I wanted to have it clean and recoverable anytime just in case I made a mess trying out something. No unnecessary configuration or additional installation have been done to make sure SharePoint 2013 will be open to future changes and will have testing results that are not affected by these unnecessary configurations. Additional changes are done on the differencing disks and can conveniently be removed after testing purposes.

I will use some images in these steps to facilitate navigation within the new Metro-style interface for some functionalities that may be diffcult to access, but I urge you to check with Google first before doing the steps that are not clear to you so you avoid making any mistake in configuration that you will have no choice but to rollback to previous snapshot with some of your earlier changes lost. The steps will provide a way for you to recover from these mistakes by using snapshots, but it is still better to avoid them in the first place by double checking from Google.

Minimum hardware requirements for SharePoint 2013:

8GB RAM - Not a "hard" requirement. I use lower than this for development with no problem so far.

x64 with 4 CPU Cores

80GB for System Drive

Since this setup requires hardware and software that are on the higher end of the market, please make sure to review the requirements and try to meet the minimum requirement as possible. For example, if you plan to additionally install Project Server 2013 in this VM it would seem that 8GB is still okay for its SQL Server small dataset use, but it is expected to crawl at this memory capacity especially when combined with other servers (it requires 24GB for the three tiers). So it’s recommended to get 16GB or more if you plan to have all the servers mentioned in this setup to be integrated. Project Server 2013 will not be installed in this VM since (1) it is not directly for development purposes and (2) it has a steep requirement as mentioned.

On the contrary it would seem that the published requirements for this setup are steep even for development purposes, but there are a lot of discussions that this setup can run on the same minimum hardware requirements as SP2010 and even the earlier MOSS 2007. So in general, if you are just doing development you can get away with not meeting the minimum requirements as long as the installation doesn’t prevent you...but you just have to be patient with the performance though.

I have tried to run this at 2GB with essential components still capable of running (you'll get a lot of time-outs in Sharepoint though, even at Central Admin, and numerous services fail to start). The most stable minimum I can get is 4GB and the response time is quite acceptable for development. The best minimum is still 8GB for the guest OS, but with a 6GB guest my 8GB host is still able to breathe (using the SSD as page file) like it still has extra memory to spare. Then again, 16GB host memory is recommended.

In the last section we are going to network three laptops (one server, two client) to verify the connectivity and security setup.

Steps

I. Preparation

Please review the Required Hardware And Software For Sharepoint 2013. This is a necessary read as the following steps will eventually fail if you do not comply with SharePoint's requirements.

II. Setup Host

Setup Common Laptop Host: Windows 8 Enterprise x64. You can use any other host operating system as long as it supports the requirements of the virtualization software we are going to use.

Install Virtualization Software

Install on the Host: Oracle VirtualBox https://www.virtualbox.org/

Create VM:

We will name our VM as SP2013DEV.

Set the VM type to VDI, memory to 4GB, storage capacity to 120GB, disk type to Dynamic. Set the Boot Order to CD/DVD-ROM and then Hard Disk only.

Set the number of Processors equal to the number of CPU Cores you have. This will equally share the cores to the VM.

Select the Microsoft Windows version to "Windows 2012 (64 bit)".

Set the Video Memory to maximum possible. Also install the latest Oracle VM VirtualBox Extensions.

Note: Do not make any non-essential configuration changes unless it is a pre-requisite of subsequent required installation.

When all installations has been performed, we will begin making snapshots so we can recover from any mistakes or errors in configuration.

We will then baseline the finalized configuration before we do a differencing disk that we can freely use for any development purposes to our heart's content.

III. Install VM Guest

Install Windows Server 2012

Set the password to any Setup Account you use in development.

When the installation has been completed, perform the following:

You will receive a prompt to enable Windows SmartScreen. Just set it to warn you so you can cancel in case you don't intend to run something.

Install Guest Additions by going to Devices\Install Guest Additions. This will make the host and guest operating system integration seamless. Turn off the guest.

Modify the Machine\Settings on the VirtualBox Manager while the VM is Powered Off.

If you want your DEV VM to be accessible from Remote Desktop:

Check the "Enable Server" in the Display\Remote Display.

Note: Make sure the Server Port is unique from all the other VMs to avoid any conflict when you run more than one VM in a client-server testing scenario for example.

Check "Enable Server" with Authentication Method as "External".

Create a new Host\Windows User Account such as "VirtualBox User" with Administrator and Remote Desktop access rights. This is the account to use for RDP access.

If you want your DEV VM to have permanent access to its Host Drive:

Set the Shared Folders\Add Share

Set the folder path to "C:\" with name "HOST_ROOT" as Auto-mount and Make Permanent.

Run the DEV VM again.

Turn off Internet Explorer Enhanced Security.

Go to Server Manager. In case you closed it, just click the icon at the lower leftmost where the Start button is usually located.

Click "Local Server" on the left navigation menu.

On the page that appears, you will notice on the Properties that there is an item "IE Enhanced Security Configuration" set to "On". Just click the "On" hyperlink to open a pop-up.

Set IE ESC to "Off" for both Administrators and Users so you will not be bothered by this during development.

Notice that on the Properties page IE ESC seems to remain "On". This is because it's still waiting for the status refresh. To quickly verify you change, click back on the "Dashboard" on the navigation menu and then click "Local Server" again. You will notice that the status changed to "Off".

If you want to have a useful development environment, set the following:

Open Windows Explorer from the Taskbar. Click "Expand the Ribbon" which is an icon shown as an "arrow pointing downward" beside the "question mark" icon on the upper right side of the window, below the window controls.

On the Ribbon, click the View tab and then click the Options button. On the Folder Options pop-up, click the View tab.

Disable: Hide Empty Drives In The Computer Folder.

Disable: Hide Extensions For Known File Types.

Disable: Hide Protected Operating System Files.

Enable: Launch Folder Windows In A Separate Process.

IV. Install SQL Server 2012 Enterprise

After inserting the DVD from the host drive and selecting the drive on the VM, click the pop-up to display disc actions and select "Run Setup.Exe".

Review the Planning\Requirements. Click "Installation" link on the navigation menu and select "New SQL Server stand-alone installation...".

You can temporarily turn-off Windows Firewall in the Local Server\Properties of the Server Manager if you want to make sure SQL Server installation will not encounter problems, but this is unnecessary.

Select All Features With Defaults for installation. Note that in the Features list the "Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint Products" is unchecked. Check it (or click Select All) because we will be runningSharePoint in this server.

Customize both the Database Engine and Analysis Services Collation to Latin1_General, Case-insensitive, Accent-sensitive, Kana-sensitive, and Width-sensitive.

A. Add a SQL Server authentication password for system administrator. Most of the time you will not use Windows authentication for SQL server connections.

B. It will be a very good idea if you can customize your Data Directories for performance (which is out of topic). However since we are setting-up for development and exchanging "high-performance" with "recoverable" VM just leave the settings as-is.

C. Add the SYSTEM account to SQL Server Analysis Services administrators to avoid system errors for a domain-configured server.

D. Add your administrator account for administrative users.

E. Install the Sharepoint integrated mode default configuration for the report server.

V. Install Active Directory Domain Services

on the Guest OS. You can very easily access PowerShell on the new Windows Server 2012 Taskbar. Wait for the installation progress to complete.
The goal for this installation is to have an Active Directory to be used with Sharepoint Server 2013. This is a common corporate scenario.
When the installation completes verify that the Success status is set to "True" and Exit Code is "Success". You will get a warning if your Windows Update is disabled but you can enable it later.

Confirm your Administrator password. Press "Y" and ENTER to continue installation.

Make sure that the Status specifies "Success". Restart the VM. Note that we could have removed the "-NoRebootOnCompletion:$True" parameter however this allows you to do some additional things before you shutdown, such as enable your Windows Update.
You may be required upon logon to change your password for domain purposes. Notice that your domain host (e.g., "sphost\Administrator") is included in your logon account display. You can verify your domain settings by looking at "Server Info"\"Computer Name, Domain, and Workgroup Settings", which is also accessible from "Control Panel\System and Security\System".
You may encounter a situation wherein you are not able to connect to the Internet. What happens is that when you configure your AD Forest, Windows 2012 automatically expects all Internet traffic should be rerouted to this domain and that the domain is able to serve as a gateway to the Internet, meaning the domain can (or will later) have a DNS Server is spite of the "-NoDNSOnNetwork" switch we added. Note that installing and configuring a DNS Service is out of topic for this article, and there are already articles specifically for Windows 2012 that can help you with this. For now just make sure you reconfigure your Internet connection back to its original state by making sure there is no rerouting occurring on your network settings.

VI. Install Sharepoint Server 2013

Install SP2013 Pre-requisites. Allow the guest system to reboot.
Install SP2013. After completing installation allow the Configuration Wizard to run.
Configure SP2013 using Configuration Wizard.
1. Create a new Server Farm.
2. Provide the machine name of the Guest OS to search for SQL Server default installation. Enter your domain account (e.g., "sphost\Administrator").
3. Provide a Passphrase required for joining servers. Specify a Central Admin port number and choose NTLM Security for now.
4. Verify the configuration and click next.
5. After successful configuration, the SP Central Administration website will open. Run the Farm Configuration Wizard in the Central Admin.
6. Use the Active Directory Users and Computers (easily accessible using Windows Search) to create a new Service Account, or use your existing Administrator Account but not recommended.
7. Skip creation of Site Collection. Verify that the configuration is completed.

VII. Install Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate

Accept the Licence Agreement and click Next. Remove installation components you are sure you will not use (make sure to keep Microsoft SharePoint Development Tools), then click Next...but hey wouldn't you want to try the "new" stuff listed? Verify selected components and then click "Next". Wait for the installation to complete.
Launch Visual Studio 2012 to verify installation.

VIII. Install Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2012

Make sure TCP/IP in SQL Server is enabled before installing TFS. This will guarantee a SharePoint site can be created for the team project collection.
On the Configuration Center select Configure Team Foundation Application Server\Advanced in order to configure reporting and team project portal. Click Next.
Test you pre-selected SQL Server Instance. You can make modifications to this setting before clicking Next.
Select a Service Account and Authentication Method, or just keep the default settings and click Next.
Unless you have a specific configuration plan you can leave the pre-set port and directory name and click Next.
Configure Reporting for use with TFS and click Next. Click "Populate URLs" to autofill the settings, then click Next.
Click "Test" to be able to verify connection and integrate with SSAS.Note: You may notice that SSAS is not running even when it is set to run automatically. There is an issue with this that "SQL Server 2012 installation configured [NT Service]\MSSQLServerOLAPService [account] to start the [Analysis] Services but somehow the user is not created in [] Windows" (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlanalysisservices/thread/fd889d6b-a42a-406c-8757-22f26f94a2ad/). However KB224973 may still be an issue with using Local System so to work around on this I used my domain administrator account although I am not sure if this is the best approach. There is also an option to add the MSSQLServerOLAPService account to SQL Server logins but this will not work if the service account is not created in the first place. In any case you can totally change this later.
Also, in case you are wondering, the password of NT Service\MSSQLServerOLAPService is "MSSQLServerOLAPService" and I guess this goes for the rest of the automatically-configured service accounts.
Create a Domain User account (non-administrator like sp2013dev\reports_user) with minimal rights to be a Report Reader account.
Unless your SharePoint server is remote or customized, you can just select "Use the defaultSharePoint location" and click Next.
Enter a name like "TFSCollection" (or use the default) and optional description like "Team Project Collection" for the new TFS site collection and click Next.
Run a readiness check before the configuration is performed. Resolve SID conflict by typing on windows command prompt:

The Readiness Check already provides the correct command.
Click "Configure" to start the configuration process. Upon successful configuration make sure you check the Detailed Results for important information.

IX. Install Developer Tools and Updates

Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2013 (64-bit) Preview. Don't worry, the preview version is much the same as the release version so it wouldn't hurt adding this to the baseline. You can just replace it later without any hassle.
Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 updates from Windows Update.
VirtualBox updates.
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Feature Pack (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29065)
1. Windows PowerShell Extensions for Microsoft SQL Server 2012. Note that the SQL Server 2012 Management Objects are already installed and don't need to be reinstalled.
2. Anything else you might need. Note: Since this is a baseline don't install anything that might not be needed for your general development purposes.

X. Baseline.

Make sure to install Guest OS updates using Windows Updates. Restart the Guest OS for baselining purposes.
Perform Disk Check and Defragment System Files.
Make a backup of your virtual hard disk. I prefer two backups located in two different storage locations for higher recoverability. This has always been my setup for virtual hard disks.
1. Open "Virtual Media Manager" and select the SP2013DEV.vdi file.
2. Click the Copy button. Click next to go to "Virtual disk file type" and select VDI type. Click Next.
3. Select "Dynamically allocated" and click Next.
4. Select the file name of the new VDI and its download destination. Click Next and then click the Copy button to start the copy process.
5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 as needed.
Update the existing virtual machine to toggle the virtual hard disk as a baseline. Only snapshot of changes will be created by the VM and the baselined hard disk will not be modified anymore.
1. Select the SP2013 virtual machine from Oracle VirtualBox Manager.
2. Right-click the VM and select Settings. On the Settings window select Storage. On the Storage Tree right-click on the SP2013 VHD on the SATA Controller and select "Remove Attachment".
3. Once the VHD attachment is removed click OK to close the Settings window
4. Open "Virtual Media Manager" and select the SP2013DEV.vdi file.
5. Click the Modify button and select Multi-attach. Click OK.
6. Close "Virtual Media Manager". Select the SP2013 virtual machine again from Oracle VirtualBox Manager.
7. Right-click the VM and select Settings. On the Settings window select Storage. On the Storage Tree add a SATA Controller using the Add Hard Disk icon (stacked plates with plus sign).
8. Click "Choose existing disk" and select the VHD from the filesystem. Click Open.
9. Verify that the "Type (Format)" Information for the VHD is "Multi-attach (VDI)" instead of "Normal (VDI)". Click OK to close the Settings window.
10. At this point you have now baselined the VHD. Any changes you made within the VM is stored separately as a snapshot. The baselined VHD is not modified in any way.
Create additional Virtual Machine(s) that use the existing virtual hard disk as permanent baseline, or Clone the existing VM itself.

It is useful if you have a stable development VM (the original VM in our case). But what if you want to have an extra VM to test new installations and configurations (that may be difficult to uninstall or un-configure) and make sure it will work out first with the baseline? The solution is to add a new/temporary VM that will use the same baseline. I won't detail how to do this because this is optional and there are lots of VirtualBox topics that cover this already, just know that this is possible plus a whole lot more.

XI. Network Two/Three Laptops and Enable RDP Access.

There are different approaches that you can do to enable this, but since you can do them all I will just explain it to you in sequence (because that's what I did). Note that there are serious security implications involved in these approaches. This is DEFINITELY not a recommended approach if you will implement this kind of connectivity in a workplace environment, moreso a public exposed network. However if you know what you are doing and you know the "gates" where your network will be accessed, then it is logical to make your network "insecure from the inside", but "secure from the outside". This means that bytes can freely roam within your network especially if it is a home network or air-gapped, but make sure you have only a single point of exposure to the outside world (gateway) that is highly secured and outside devices cannot connect to your network. And here is how to do it.
First, make sure that your single point of connection to the Internet is defined. This can either be a wireless router in my case or any other gateway. Configure this gateway in such that connections coming from the Internet cannot be established going inside the network, and that connections coming from the network are filtered going to the Internet. If you can maintain this model, it doesn't matter if your network devices are not secure themselves.
Supposing we have "Laptop A" with Windows 7 Ultimate x64, "Laptop B" with Windows 8 Enterprise x64, and "Laptop C" with Windows XP x32 laptops. Obviously the SP2013DEV VM that we want to access is located in Laptop B but we want the Laptop A (Windows 7 x64) and Laptop C (Windows XP x32) to be able to access SP2013DEV in Laptop B.
If we don't have a wireless router, or worse, even a wired router, for example when we are on the move, what we can do is to setup network cables. I won't go into the details because there are many approaches to this. In cases that you don't have any router what you can do is to make a Laptop see the other laptop as a gateway so that they will be able to communicate with each other (device-gateway relationship). Another way is to "Bridge" but I prefer the former approach since it is faster. With this setup you can have a network with two laptops (no router involved) connected to each other. I will have this topic separately on "Connecting Two Laptops Using A Network Cable", but there are already lots of topic available about this.UPDATE: I have a separate topic "Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) from a Laptop-Connected Internet USB Dongle to Multiple Devices using ordinary Wireless Router without setting-up a DNS" which provides the option of enabling SP2013DEV to be accessed by more devices PLUS an available Internet from a single (cheap/free) source.
Second thing we do is to setup Windows 8 homegroup so that the Windows 8 and Windows 7 laptop can trust each other as part of a single home network. This will make the connection much smoother not only for the RDP Access. As for the Windows XP laptop, configure the Workgroup of the three laptops as one. Placing all the laptops into one workgroup has many advantages which I will not explain here since it's out of topic.
Configure VirtualBox VRDP
1. Install the latest Oracle VirtualBox Extension Pack that is compatible with the version of VirtualBox you have installed. The Extension Pack will contain the VRDP server that is not part of the VirtualBox installer.
2. On the VirtualBox Manager right click on the SP2013DEV VM and select Settings. On the Display section click on the Remote Display tab. Take note that we have already configured this early in this setup guide. However since we are on a development platform and would like to avoid unnecessary security hurdles we will make the Authentication Method as "Null" instead to make it work first. We will also Allow Multiple Connections for this purpose so we can connect from two laptops simulatenously (there are time this will get funny/annoying when two people are using it). Click OK.
3. Our goal right now is to enable development, not to implement unnecessary security. I will have another article that will cover configuration of security so you can access your development environment from the Internet.
Use Microsoft Terminal Services Console (MSTSC.EXE a.k.a. Remote Desktop Client) to connect using RDP.
1. First test the connection using Laptop B by entering on the Remote Desktop 127.0.0.1:3389 where 127.0.0.1 is a loopback address and 3389 is the default port assigned to the VM. To verify if this is your port number: while SP2013DEV VM is running, on the Machine Menu select the Session Information and view the Remote Desktop Server Port. Test if the connection does not require login and if it successfully connects to the VM. Do not close the connection yet.
2. Now connect using Laptop A and Laptop C simultaneously by entering on the Remote Desktop [Laptop B Static IP Address]:[SP2013DEV VM VRDP Port]. Where Laptop B Static IP Address is the IP address of the "Host" OS, since this is where RDP client will connect to, and not on the Guest OS. Use IPCONFIG on the host windows console. For DHCP check your router's assigned IP address.
3. Once you have confirmed that all three laptops can connect to the VM using RDP you can close them all. This means you can now access your SP2013DEV from any laptop that is part of your local network.

At this point you now have created a single stable, recoverable, and revertable VM in your laptop with a full-blown Sharepoint 2013 development platform.

2 – No more SharePoint Designer for creating SharePoint branding: Sure SharePoint Developer was modified for 2013 but you do not have to use it to modify your marketing anymore (I’m considering the name SharePoint “Designer” is no more appropriate!). Actually you can use any device you want, such as Graphic Facilities, Notepad++, and Dreamweaver… ANYTHING. This function performs because the Expert Web page Collection was modified to perform easily over a WebDAV applying. So now, in Microsoft windows you can map a system generate straight to your Expert Web page Collection and then modify away. Legitimately you could do this to some level in past variations of SharePoint, but back then Ms closed SharePoint from enabling you to perform with master webpages and page templates.

In 2013 the Expert Web page Selection is the place where you can put ALL your marketing resources such as CSS and pictures. This is a fairly exciting modify that requires a little getting used to… but it really is a lot better than having to use SharePoint Developer or a plug-in to Graphic Facilities to work with your marketing information straight on the Website Selection.

Note: I’ve noticed that sometimes WebDAV can be slow. There is a strange but easy fix to this, see the following post: http://sharepointsolution2010.blogspot.in/2012/11/fix-slow-webdav-performance-in-windows-7.html After making this change my mapped drive to SharePoint is super-fast!

3 – Web Content Management enhancements: There are probably several improvements that are new to SharePoint 2013 WCM but the two that take a position out to me are: Material Look for Web Aspect and Online.

Content Search Web Part :A new Web Aspect that supersedes the old Material Question Web Aspect. As the name indicates the new Web Aspect uses the look for performance in 2013 to question and narrow details from around SharePoint. As opposed to the CQWP, the Material Search Web Aspect is designed with HTML and JavaScript instead of XSLT.

Catalogs – In SharePoint 2013 WCM you can create a catalog of products and use this catalog to create a robust product web site without creating pages for every item. Imagine having product categories, sub categories, and product detail pages all centrally managed!

I could probably fill an entire blog post on the new WCM features, but I'll let someone else take that charge :)

Device Channels:Don’t be fooled by the name, this has nothing to do with channels as you may know them… we are talking mobile / device specific page rendering here!

You installation System Programs from Site Configurations > System channels, which allows you to give the route an Alias (for referencing in the UI and in code) and then “Device Addition Rules”. These guidelines are substrings that SharePoint will look for in the browser’s Personal Broker. You can have certain expert webpages implement to certain device channels (for example: have a particular expert web page just for iPhones or Surface Tablets). This is a fairly awesome function, you can even use the Alias in your expert web page and web page templates to have different individual items of the site provide in a different way depending on the route. Its type of like Press Issues in CSS3 only System Programs do not look at device abilities (like size and height) they look for search phrases in the browser’s Personal Broker.

5 – Composed Looks:I’m considering Consisting Looks as progress of SharePoint 2010 themes… I think about the item group was trying to create something a little nearer to how Term Media styles work(though without changing the underlying SharePoint technologies that make up the look and feel)

The first big distinction is you do not create the styles with the Workplace customer any longer. Instead you set up components and add them to a Consisting Looks Collection (Site Configurations > Consisting looks). The composed look includes several things:

Name – Fairly obviously the name of the Composed Look
Master Page – To arrange the elements of the page and do other master page-y stuff
Theme URL – Points to an XML file that defines all of the colors you want to apply to different CSS. This works similarly to 2010 except you make your own theme id’s instead of using Accent1, Accent2, etc.
Image URL – Points to an image that can be used to replace a background image in the CSS (I know… sweet… a background image!)
Font Scheme URL – Points to an XML file which defines the fonts that can be applied to CSS
Display Order – Helps you arrange the available composed looks

The idea here is that you put all this together with a preview file and you can provide configurable “composed looks” for your clients and users to select from and configure to their liking. You can apply Composed looks from Site Settings > Change the look.

6 – Managed Navigation:SharePoint navigation now has two different options: the old way, now known as Structured Navigation and the new way which is known as Managed Navigation.

This new technique of routing uses a Handled Meta-data phrase set to fill the routing management with products. The new technique is more versatile and allows for some exciting new uses as you will see such as enabling you to create helpful URL’s. Another exciting part advantage of Handled Navigation is you get a great Modify choice next to the both the International and Present routing that allows you add, eliminate, and edit routing from anywhere without viewing the Navigation choice in the Website Configurations.

Side Note: Styling this edit mode is going to be a bit of a pain on sites with highly stylized navigation… but that’s a good topic for a future post!

FIX SLOW WEBDAV PERFORMANCE IN WINDOWS 7

I have an iPhone computer file space for storage app called Air sharinghttp://avatron.com/apps/ that uses a WebDAV hosting server to let you get connected to it with a PC. For some reason, a few weeks after setting up Windows seven, computer file exchanges to or from this (or any other) WebDAV hosting server became amazingly, mind-numbingly, literally-33.6K-dialup slowly. And yet, from my other entire computer systems in the house, even those still running Windows XP, computer file exchanges over the LAN to my iPhone were as fast as you would anticipate.

These days, lastly, I got so fed up with it that I — gasp! — explored for a remedy. To my discomfort, I discovered the response in just an instant or two, showing quite succinctly just how plenty of time I had been spending just “putting up with it.” Curiously, the root cause is none other than Online Traveller 8. Quite basically, all you have to do is converting off IE’s automated proxy’s configurations recognition. Here is how to do that:

1. In Internet Explorer, open the Tools menu, then click Internet Options.

2. Select the Connections tab.

3. Click the LAN Settings button.

4. Uncheck the “Automatically detect settings” box.

5. Click OK until you’re out of dialog hell.

Immediately after doing this, file transfers to my iPhone graduated from CompuServe Modem Simulator to Transwarp Conduit Simulator. It was that much of an improvement.

I found the answer on this Microsoft Technet discussion,http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2445570 incidentally. The solution was posted by “Daniel CD” about two-thirds of the way down the page. Props to that guy.

SharePoint 2013 User Profile Qualities Overview

Introduction

In this article we will discuss the SharePoint 2013 User Profile Properties and their uses in detail.

Step 1

Once we have configured and installed SharePoint 2013, we will go to Central Administration (CA) as shown in the following URL:

We will select the user profiles; see the list of configured profiles as similar to the SharePoint 2010 pages.

Step 2

Now click the "Manage User Profiles" link, it will redirect to the profile search page.

Step 3

Select the user name from the result; it will load their profile page.

Step 4

We will see all the new properties that are available in a 2013 user profile compared to SharePoint 2010.

We are able to follow #Tags and posts; these #tags will update automatically in our News Feed.

We will get the following validation message, if we have not enabled the "Tag Service". There is a known issue in SharePoint 2013 online version.

There are some changes in the Email Notifications properties compared to SP 2010, because in the news feeds we have additional social features "like", "AtMention", "Follow", and "Reply" options.

Introduction

You might have already known that Ms declared the review edition of SharePoint 2013 (aka SharePoint15) last 30 days. Here I would like to provide a summary of the setup of the same on a Microsoft windows hosting server 2012 device.

Download

Please note that there are two versions to download:

SharePoint Foundation 2013
SharePoint Server 2013

Choose the version which you require:

SharePoint Foundation 2013 (1 GB) Download

SharePoint Server 2013 (2 GB) Download

Please note that the file is in Image (.img) format. You need an Image File Extractor to extract and run the setup. Following is the link for an Image File Extractor. (http://www.winimage.com/)

No Client Operating System Installation

The Client Operating Systems like Windows 7 / Vista etc. are not supported in the SharePoint 2013 version. So you might require one of the following for installing:

Windows Server 2012 R2
Windows Server 2008
Windows 8 Hyper V virtual machine

You can install the pre-requisites using the Install software prerequisites option from the main screen. In case of internet connection unavailable, then download & install would be possible.

Windows Server 2012

For the installation I have used Windows Server 2012 R2 trial version. If you already have a server operating system installed you can skip this step and proceed directly with SharePoint 2013 Installation.

Download Windows Server 2012 Image

You can download the image file from following location: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/hh670538.aspx.

The image file is 3.37 GB in size and you can extract or burn the image file to proceed with the installation. (ImgBurn is a tool to burn .img files to DVD.)

On running the bootable DVD you should be prompted with the setup.exe as shown below:

Use the GUI option in the further step:

Please note that this operating system installation step can be skipped if you already have Windows Server in place. Ensure your Operating System has a valid domain integration.

Tips

Inside Windows 2012, Use Ctrl + Alt + Delete to view the Power Options screen and you can choose Shut Down, Restart etc.
To access your Start Menu (Screen) use your Windows button or move mouse to the left bottom end of toolbar.

SQL Server 2012

SharePoint 2013 requires SQL Server 2012. You can download a trial version from the following link:http://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/pd/SQL2012EvalCTA/enus/default.aspx.

Download the highlighted version and install it. Before installation you need to create a domain account to specify it during the SQL Server installation.

Note: The SQL Server installation should take around 20 minutes.

SharePoint 2013 Installation

After installing the operating system & database server we can continue with the actual SharePoint 2013Installation. Run the setup.bat from the extracted files root folder.

Install software pre-requisites

Click on the Install software prerequisites link to automatically install all the pre required software.

After the above step you can proceed with the actual installation.

Choose the installation as Standalone and click the Install Now button as shown below.

Wait for a few minutes for the installation to be completed.

Once the installation is completed you will be launched with the Products Configuration Wizard.

Specify your database name and credentials in the following page:

Enter the Farm Security Phrase of your own:

Wait for the configuration activities to be completed. This should take around 10 minutes.

Once the Configuration is done you will get the following message. The textboxes shows your appropriate machine parameters.

Central Administration

Following is the screen shot of Central Administration in SharePoint 2013. You can open this from the Start Menu.

Click on the Start the Wizard button as shown above to configure your farm settings. Once the farm configuration is done you should be able to see the following screen.

Default Site

Now you can try opening the default site installed. It should be accessible by the machine name itself as shown below:

Following is the blank site template of the default site.

Corrupted Default Site

If you get a time out error or a Connection Close message then probably the default site collection is corrupted. You can do the following activities to fix it:

Delete the port 80 site from Central Administration
Create a new web application with port 80
Add a new site collection to the new web application
Try accessing the site using the above URLs

Ensure that you have valid entries in the system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.
