Got my hair trimmed this weekend.

Kind of strange to go to the salon regularly, it's something that I have never done. Long hair might be easier to manage, but I am still crazy in love with my shorter do.

Me and the girls will leave Wednesday for another adventure.

Finding time to work on the new site has become near impossible. Hopefully the quiet nights on the ranch will allow me the chance to catch up.

There are so many amazing things happening! I can not wait to share some of what I have been working hard on with you.

Have a great week and follow along on my Instagram, if you like.

PALM SPRINGS

noreply@blogger.com (stephanie) — Wed, 18 Jun 2014 13:43:00 +0000

A month ago I got the most amazing email.

I was headed to Palm Springs with the editors of Clementine Daily, a three day adventure with some of the women that I work alongside, but have never met in person.

I have always loved road trips. I truly believe that the journey getting there is half the fun, and thanks to Buick this was no exception.

So, with a small (maybe not so small) bag I was headed out of town. We landed at LAX, hopped in our cars, and hit the road headed for the California desert.

We almost immediately ran into LA traffic, but even sitting on the highway was fun. Our Enclave was packed with features that made the drive easy...we rode in complete comfort, had a tons of plugins for necessary electronics, GPS mapped everything out and even warned us of traffic ahead. We jammed to the 90s XM station and shot pictures the whole way.

Fields full of windmills, beautiful mountains...arrival at THE Viceroy. Pure bliss.

Although the trip was short, we could not have packed more in.

Cruising around town we ate crazy delicious food, sipped yummy drinks, toured to-die-for mid century modern neighborhoods, SHOPPED, took turns in the spa, lounged, swam....and talked. We talked a lot (basically nonstop) and that was the ABSOLUTE best part!

A week later I am still fueled by the thoughts and moments that were shared. I feel inspired. I feel understood. I feel energized. I feel grateful.

Thank you Erin for putting together such an AMAZING trip and such an incredible team. Thank you Buick for making it all happen, and for reminding me why I love road trips so very much!

ESTHER STEWART

noreply@blogger.com (stephanie) — Wed, 28 May 2014 16:19:00 +0000

Oh how I long for the day that there will be a budget for adding art into our new home.

For now our funds are dedicated to boring things like repairs and necessary improvements. Patience is something that I struggle with/work on constantly.

The color combinations in these Esther Stewart paintings have me plotting and planning for what to do with some of our (huge) empty walls. I am not someone that will fill space with just anything or shop for temporary solutions.

I am stubborn and wait for the 'right' thing...something that I absolutely love and cannot live without. (I guess that explains all of my empty walls.)

I often claim that I am not a big fan of color, but then I see certain colors placed in just the right arrangement, and suddenly I am obsessed and bored with all the neutrals that I fill my home and closet.

Esther Stewart’s work springs from the contrasting of form and colour, shifted and repositioned to produce clashes and illusory effects. Her paintings mimic the lines of architectural spaces and topographical mapping, eschewing conventional perspective.

Entire rooms could be built around some of these paintings.

A. P. C.

noreply@blogger.com (stephanie) — Thu, 22 May 2014 04:14:00 +0000

Lately I have been living in a pair of high waisted A.P.C. jeans that I bought at Need Supply on sale and hacked off at the ankle, something I have been guilty of doing to a lot of my denim lately.

I'm really into the entire Spring line actually, full of classic 70's silhouettes in beautiful fabrics, styled simply. Lovely, understated, chic...effortless and so on. Basically what we all strive for.

"My whole purpose is to sex down things."

Sadly Vanessa Seward won't be collaborating past next season...but I can only imagine what will come with a line of her very own.

EXHAUSTED

noreply@blogger.com (stephanie) — Wed, 14 May 2014 17:53:00 +0000

I am VERY tired! Now that you have seen the above images, maybe you can understand why?

For a solid week we have been burning the candle at both ends, filling days and nights with music, friends and fun…fueling it all with caffeine. It's a terrible cycle to slip in to! I'm wondering how I used to do this with regularity?

This morning we woke to two sad little girls, puffy eyed with fever. The party is officially over, and what a relief, I don't think I could have survived one more minute of fun.

I have to admit after a lifetime with long hair, I am really digging my new short do.

Not sure why it took me so long to change things up, but better late then never. I am actually taking the time to use product in my hair and a bit of makeup on my face…it's doing wonders for my day.

I wanted to share a few other things I'm adding to my beauty routine. Aging gracefully is harder then I thought. Nothing wrong with getting a little help, right?

Working on my smile with this (video here) because who has the time to go to the dentist for loads of treatments?

Makeup is challenging for me, but this product is making things easier (and prevents everything from falling off my face in the southern heat). Why is it so hot already?!

THE AMERICAN EDIT

noreply@blogger.com (stephanie) — Wed, 07 May 2014 16:12:00 +0000

The American Edit is one of my latest obsessions. There is something infinitely satisfying about finding a site that is different then all the others. I suppose its kind of a scavenger hunt online these days, following clues to find the beautifully authored well edited blogs.

The American Edit is certainly on that short list for me.

FROM HEAD TO TOE.

Scout treasures and trends. Celebrate substance with style.

FROM WORKSHOP TO WARDROBE.

Meet designers and doers. Embrace production with principles.

Uncover a manufacturing rebirth that wears the label ‘Made in the U.S.A.’

FROM COAST TO COAST.

Build community and culture. Champion change with choice.

Recover the America that fashioned our past—and that forms the fabric of our future

Not only is TAE a fantastic resource for finding American Made brands, it is incredibly well curated and chock full of amazing emerging designers, featuring their inspiring process and enviable shops. There is nothing more thrilling for me then getting behind a really great brand early on…Rita does it daily.

Being intentional in my purchases and supporting local talent is something that is important to me. It might not be the most convenient way to shop, but it is by far the most fulfilling.

MOMMA

noreply@blogger.com (stephanie) — Tue, 06 May 2014 19:14:00 +0000

When I was in high school I would walk to a friend’s house and change quickly before we headed to school. My mother never cared much about what I was wearing, but she cared very much about her favorite pair of Calvins. They had survived her 20s in Austin and she was mighty proud to still fit into them. Unfortunately for her, they fit me too.

I grew up with mom’s sewing machine typically out. She was always working on some sort of project or ensemble. When they took diving trips to the Caribbean, she would whip up high-waisted shorts and printed pants with matching crop tops. During my short pageant phase, she created a dreamy gown that put all the other store-bought frocks to shame.

My mother did not grow up with much, but my grandmother taught her how to use her Singer. So when there wasn’t enough money to buy the latest, my momma made it for herself.

Fashion was something that we bonded over growing up. Shopping trips before the school year were an adventure. In the eighties she helped me find skorts and silk color block tops just like hers. I literally wore a jacket with shoulder pads to second grade. We got perms together and matching (terrible-looking) bangs cuts. In middle school she bought me a subscription to Seventeen and my first Coach purse. For the 8th grade dinner dance we found the most amazing black suede platforms and blew our budget on the shoes, picking up a simple shift dress to wear them with.

Mom taught me to be original. I watched as she scoured department store sales and thrift stores alike, combining old and new and high and low. She planted the seed in me to search for special pieces—things that no one else had.

In high school I became obsessed with the sixties and seventies, especially the music and fashion. Mom explained the difference between bell-bottoms and wide legs, and the importance of a good pair of wooden clogs. She knew how to make me halter-tops without a pattern and took me to the street markets to dig for vintage Levis. Fashion became a shared interest that bonded us together and helped us survive the tough teenage years.

Sadly, I broke that old Singer machine belling all my blue jeans and sewing on patches. Worse than that, I left a piece of Dentyne in the pocket of those Calvins one day accidentally and washed them. Luckily, mom forgave me. Years later, she gifted me my own sewing machine. I have clumsily made little dresses for my girls and their dolls. I imagine now the tradition will continue. My five-year-old stockpiles my magazines in her bedroom and puts on a fashion show for daddy anytime we shop for her clothes. Sometimes I cringe when I see the weird outfits she puts together, but I would never tell her that. I just smile and tell her how fantastic she looks… just like my momma did for me.

In honor of Mothers Day, I wanted to share a little piece I wrote about my mom for CLEMENTINE DAILY…just one of the many ways that she has influenced me.

Happy Mothers Day.
