How many plug-ins does your Wordpress.org website utilize? The more plug-ins the more the need to keep them current and with today's internet environment constantly on the attack that could be upwards of 30+ updates per month.
Why is it important to keep the plug-ins and version of Wordpress you are relying-on for your website's features and functionality? Many reasons, but the most important two are almost always: bug fixes and security hole patches. Both of these will make your website vulnerable to attack and exploitation if not kept current.
"But my website 'breaks' when I run the updates; what am I supposed to do?" I hear far too often from new customers that have had unqualified people build them a website on the Wordpress.org platform, but this can and should be corrected so that the site's functionality and look is never compromised.

This is a very obvious pursuit; Not getting scammed, but that is becoming more and more difficult every day and via every possible form of deception the bad guys can conjure.
In regards-to all things web-related beware of the following:

1) Domain name scams - Register, beware, you are in violation of, pay this or that to him or her are all red flags of something being amiss so do not click-on links within messages or call phone numbers provided in mailings as you will soon be out of time for certain and money if you fall for one of these scams.

2) Search Engine Optimization services - Over 95% of these offers are totally bogus and will only deliver your website unqualified traffic (porn) at best and at worst cause your site to be removed from search engine rankings altogether. If an offer is made by someone using an @aol.com, @gmail.com, @hotmail.com, @yahoo.com, etc... address, or you cannot find their business listed in Google or Bing!, bolt!

3) Website development services - Are you sure the person selling you the website is the person, or company, that is building your website? Too often people contract labor in foreign lands that are not ethical and intentionally flawed in their efforts so that your website is vulnerable and very difficult to update or maintain. You have to know and trust your web developer as they have access to you and YOUR CUSTOMER'S DATA! Weebly and Wix own your content so think about that before putting time and money into making their business better; put time and effort into making your business better!

4) Social Media services - Your brand has it's own voice and style, don't be fooled into spending money on content that does not reflect that voice or your brand! "Likes" do not equate into loyalty, customers or even fans most often so don't try to force your business on people, make it appealing for them to participate and support your business as this is a sustainable strategy that most all of these services do not care about as the quick hit is what they can provide, at best! Understand your audience, command your brand.

Blocking tracking and how much personal information on you has been an ongoing battle between consumers who want to free-range the web and business that want to slaughter our privacy rights and to gather as much demographic big data to use in trying to predict our habits and purchasing patterns and today we take a big step backward in protecting ourselves from being exploited.

First documented in a paper that researchers at Princeton University and KU Leuven University in Belgium, this type of tracking, called canvas fingerprinting, works by instructing the visitor’s Web browser to draw a hidden image. Because each computer draws the image slightly differently, the images can be used to assign each user’s device a number that uniquely identifies it.

Like other tracking tools, canvas fingerprints are used to build profiles of users based on the websites they visit — profiles that shape which ads, news articles, or other types of content are displayed to them.

But fingerprints are unusually hard to block: They can’t be prevented by using standard Web browser privacy settings or using anti-tracking tools such as AdBlock Plus.
The researchers found canvas fingerprinting computer code, primarily written by a company called AddThis, on 5 percent of the top 100,000 websites. Most of the code was on websites that use AddThis’ social media sharing tools. Other fingerprinters include the Canadian dating site Plentyofish.com and many of today's most popular web-stops.

The much-awaited Google’s Panda 4.0 update has been released! Matt Cutts, the head of the Webspam team at Google, announced through Twitter. The effect of the update on websites:
