I have always been deeply against being pregnant. A small part of me always figured I would have a family, but I've never wanted to be pregnant. All the body changes and new things you constantly have to be aware of. No wine, no lunch meat. I mean, it's not like any of that sounds appealing to a girl, you know? I do love a good stretchy pant, but that's hardly a selling point on being a human incubator for me. Call me selfish, I probably am. At least I know it up front.

The thing is, I'm now at the age where my friends are starting to have babies because they want to. Granted, two of them weren't exactly planned. But still, we're all married, working, and have stable places to live so getting pregnant isn't as devastating as it would have been when we were younger and poorer and not ready. We are, in all senses "ready". It's just so strange to think that I'm now at an age where I could totally take care of a small human and not be pitied in the grocery store.

All of this is coming up because Luke just told me we have another set of friends just finding out they are pregnant. Of our close friends here in town, we're going to be the only ones not with kids besides my best friend Stacey. She and her boyfriend haven't been together that long though and she's on the same page I am so I doubt she's joining the party any time soon. Although I am so excited for our friends and their adorable new little bundles, I'm already feeling nostalgic for the fun we had when it was just us. Being able to wake up on a Saturday and decide in ten minutes that we're going to spend the whole day on the lake, supplied only with a loaf of bread, lunch meat and a case of beer. Or deciding on a Friday night that we are going on a weekend getaway and just grabbing the first bag we find and hopping in the car.

My friends are having babies and I'm not ready yet. I really love my life how it is now, I'm not ready for this sweet part to be over yet. Maybe I am selfish.

My current job is in corporate retail. I feel the need to tell you that so you can follow along. If you're lucky enough to be unfamiliar with this world, just think "Devil wears Prada". It's pretty spot on. I always thought this was where I would want to spend my days. Sometimes I have days where it's glamorous and fun and I get to be really creative and I think to myself, "See, you were right to want this!" but then those moments quickly pass. Now I know, that as a grown up, work isn't always about having fun. There are going to be days you hate dealing with morons who make you question your very existence. What I'm talking about here is the bone-deep-soul-crushing knowledge that this is not the place for you. You know that feeling? Sometimes it happens when my gps lies to me and I wind up in the hood instead of the restaurant I'm meeting my friend at. This is much more serious than that. Thing is- I don't know what I'm going to do about it.

I want to work for myself. I know I'm good at things and smart enough to figure it out. I'm just having a life crisis over here, folks. Don't mind me.

I'm failing miserably at my own challenge! Work has been ridiculously crazy the past month or so, but it's no excuse! I actually just started a new job with an awesome new boss so hopefully I can start to have some of my life back... But anyways, I digress.

Luke and I moved into our new house Easter weekend and literally since January I have been dying to plant some cucumbers. There is absolutely NOTHING better than a homegrown cucumber. I could live off those things. So naturally, we don't plant them right away. There is a perfect garden spot along our driveway, but it requires tilling and in fairness, we didn't really get moved until too late in the season to start a garden from scratch. So instead Luke built me these boxes for raised beds. I have no green thumb. Like at all. It's blacker than black, but still, every year I'm hopeful this will be the year something lives. The first bed we planted is just okra and pumpkins, Luke's favorites. We planted these on May 17. I took this picture on May 29 so only 12 days later! We're already making progress! I owe you a more recent shot, I'll keep you posted.

The second box is planted with tomatoes, watermelons, jalapeños, cucumbers and spaghetti squash. We planted it on Memorial Day Monday, May 25 and look! Sprouts already! Yes, yes, I'll get you more updated pics. Geez.

Last week I turned 26. And I also realized, I'm a terrible blogger. Time that changed though. My challenge for 26 is to write a post at least once a week, every week.

I started this blog so I could document my life as it happened to me. That's exactly what I plan on doing. I think it's pretty funny. I hope you will too!

Oh, but some of them are.

I think I'm having a crisis. A holy-crap-I'm-going-to-be-25-this-week crisis. And what am I going to do with my life? It doesn't help that my husband and I ask ourselves this question everyday.

But seriously, what AM I going to do with my life?

These are the things I know;

I want a house. With a dishwasher and a porch.

I want to quit my job in the most glorious fashion.

I want to be my own boss.

Thing is, I can't have them all. So I'm stuck. Which one do I want the most?

There's all this pressure to persue great things, do great things, live big, make every day count. These ideas make me feel really guilty when I just want to spend the day in my pajamas watching binge watching scandal.

I'll get my shit together, I just don't know where to start.

So basically this whole entry is just me freaking out. Sorry. Not really.

Dammit people. Stop asking me.

I am an old married lady!

This wasn't supposed to happen to me!
But today, I went shopping with one of my best friends, and was back in my house at 6:30, and was exhausted! I am such a loser! Well, maybe I've always been a loser and just didn't want to admit it.

Anyways, more to my point, earlier Stace and I were talking about how we seriously need to start exercising. I'm not really any bigger than I've always been, I'm just a completely different shape! And I have no idea when this happened. Well, it might have something to do with the fact that I sit at my desk in front of a computer pretty much non-stop from 7:30 am to about 5:30 pm every day, drive home, make dinner, sit on the couch eating said dinner and then remain sitting on the couch with Luke while we watch the news and then our shows until it's time to take a shower and go to bed.
But seriously, this is getting unacceptable.

So while we were shopping, we decided to change things so we bought some really inspiring Under Armour tights/leggings from Belk to get us off the couch and in the working out mood. Since it's rare that I get the house to myself for a few hours, when I came home, I pulled on my new tights and started youtubing workout videos.

I did two 10 minute yoga videos by Tara Stiles (look her up!) and then, feeling fit and brave, I clicked on a 7 minute video titled "Love your Legs routine with Karena". Mistake. First off, the first 2 minutes are of these gorgeous-super-fit-big-boobed-tiny-waisted girls running around in bikinis on the beach. I felt like a beached whale. Then you get to the video and she's wearing some sort of push up sports bra, tights, and leg warmers. She's gorgeous. Flash over to me in my leggings, baggy hoodie and pony tail, it's disappointing to say the least. She does a few floor routines flashing her million dollar perfectly white smile the whole time. She doesn't even look flustered. I'm sweaty and gasping for breath. It's just sad really.

So now I'm on to the next challenge. I need to just find a workout class near me so that I can be surrounded by other people trying, no just my own heavy breathing and the two dogs in the living room. What is your favorite type of workout? Give a girl some suggestions!

Well folks, here I am! Almost 7 months of marriage and I'm still breathing! Actually we both are. That's a miracle in itself.

I do want to apologize for that long absence there. I mean, what kind of person has a blog but never writes anything? Geez. I was pretty busy though with the whole drastic life change and all. But now I'm feeling like I got my shit back together, so it shouldn't happen again. (at least I'm not planning on it happening again...)

First off, I would like to brag on myself a bit. I've managed to snag a good start on a dream career. That's right, you heard me! I just started my third week of being the Merchandise Assistant for women's active wear and swim at Belk! (<--check it out!) Granted, I'm the low man on the totem pole, and will most likely stay that way for at least a year, but I'm on totem pole. More than I can say for some. I just have to pay my dues to get where I'm going. Along with starting off my career, I've learned how to shop for groceries. Not like swing through Walmart when I'm starving and buy a pizza and enough wine to get me through my next paycheck. Like really buy groceries like a grownup. I plan a week's worth of dinners and lunches and buy groceries accordingly. The quality of my dinners may not quite be that grown-up, but still, I'm doing it. We have dinner every night (usually homemade) and are spending no more than $50 a week on grocery shopping. Yay me!

Second, being married is amazing. Absolutely amazing. I was so worried that it would be so hard to go from completely independent to completely dependent, but it really wasn't that bad. Don't get me wrong, I had my meltdown the Monday after the honeymoon when I was trying to unpack my boxes and figure out where I was going to put 50 pounds of shoes in a 1 pound closet. Luke has been amazing. He has never pressured me to get a job just simply because we need the money. He was completely supportive of me waiting to find what I wanted. I was so worried I would be a horrible home maker and wife that he would change his mind about me. But our house could be disgusting and we could have cereal for dinner every night and it wouldn't matter one bit to him. (usually I'm super feminist, but I didn't want him to immediately regret his decision, geez)

Anyways, this is really just a rant about how I was so SO afraid of not being ready to "lose" myself to marriage, when really I've found a person I'm completely in love with..

It's 2:30 in the morning one week before I'm supposed to walk down the aisle and change my life forever. Not just my life, Luke's, my family's lives, his family's lives, our friends' lives. And I'm starting to freak out. A smidge. Ok, a giant smidge. A huge pit in my stomach. But this is normal right? Everyone feels this way, right? That's what women have told me. But Luke? He's great! Not a care in the world. Which should make me feel great, the fact that my love has no doubts whatsoever about our new life changes. But instead I feel even worse because if he's so sure of this, why am I having these doubts? I feel guilty almost for worrying, which in turn makes me feel worse. I can't wait to be married, but what if I'm horrible at it? What if it's not like we think it will be and one day he changes his mind? Or what if I do? I knew from the moment I met Luke that he was going to be the one to change my life, but am I ready to let go of who I've always been? I've been Kendle Sisk for 23 years and I think she's pretty awesome, but in one week I will be Kendle Starcher and who is she? I guess in ways I'm nothing like the girl who scrambled to leave this town in the dust 5 years ago, but I'm also still a lot like her. I still feel more lost than I do found most of the time. I still have no idea what I'm heading towards, what my end goal will be. The girl that left was reckless, fearless, scared, tired, frustrated, rebellious, broken, lost, and looking to never return. I was running headlong into the wind and I was free. Now all I do is try and please everyone, try to cooperate and say all the right things and do all the right things. In Greenville I had my friends, my job, my home, my life. Now, I just have Luke. As exciting as that should be, I've never not had a backup plan or had my own thing going on and all I feel is terrified. I know once the wedding is over and we can settle into a routine, I'll be fine. I'll have a house to work on, recipes to learn, and a new life to begin. It's just all of this wedding stress from my loony bin family that is making me feel like I'm drowning. At the end of the day, I love Luke and I know that's all that matters. I just have to get this wedding over with.

If you're anything like me, you loooove a good ridiculous TLC special. Hence my title today, with a nod towards those crazy Duggers! Anyway, today I found myself being sucked into "Here Come's Honey Boo Boo". It was like a slow motion horrifying train wreck, I wanted to look away and change the channel, but I just couldn't. They were at a redneck reunion of sorts and having belly flop contests and bobbing for pig's feet. It was incredible! If you are not familiar with Honey Boo Boo, she is one of the stars of Toddler's and Tiaras, and she is straight craaaazy!! A good example of that is below. You can thank me later.

On to other fun topics, my bachelorette party was two weekends ago and it was soooooo much fun! My amazing best and oldest friend, Lindsey, organized everything and it was such a blast. We all met in Raleigh at the hotel and started out with drinks and some much needed girl talk. We then went to a pole dancing class at Triangle Pole Fitness and really enjoyed it! The instructor was awesome and we all left thoroughly sore but feeling sassy! We had dinner at The Cheesecake Factory and went on to this bar downtown called Solas. I had so much fun and it was so wonderful to get all the girls together. Last weekend Lindsey also threw a bachelorette party for her college friend, Tiffany, who is getting married at the end of September in Charlotte. Linds is pulling double MOH duties during the month of September! We had dinner at Blackfinn's in the Epicenter (which was delicious!!) and then went up to Suite. Suite thinks an awful lot of themselves to not have any seating you don't have to pay for and expensive beers so instead of hanging around there, we went next door to Howl At The Moon and had a blast! They have a live piano band that can literally play any song you request and super cheap drink specials.

This past weekend, my aunts threw Luke and I a "His & Her's Fiesta" at the lake house and it was so wonderful. We got all kinds of goodies! Now I just have to get on top of writing all those thank you notes and figuring out how we're going to squeeze our stuff into our tiny house!

If you follow me on instagram (@kendlehollis) my life seems pretty interesting. In reality, I don't do much. Right now my days consist of some serious wedding crafting, craigslist searching, application filling out, and trying to come up with a new business venture. I've decided I'm going to start my own company because I don't want to live my life trying to meet someone else's standards and build their business. I want to build my business and always be proud of what I'm doing. Anyways, enough serious talk for now. On to important topics!

Next Saturday night is my Bachelorette Party and I am getting soooo excited! My best friend Lindsey is an amazing planner and she literally has this party down to a science. I found some really fun Bachelorette Scavenger Hunts today online for us to try and complete while we are out. It's going to be so fun to get all the girls together in a worry free environment. We are meeting in Raleigh since it's the most central location to all of us at a hotel to get ready and socialize for a few hours. Then we are going to a pole dancing class at this really fun looking place, then dinner and out to a bar or two. It's going to be a new experience for all of us and I think it's really going to be fun. Of course I will happily report back on everything! Til then, this is what I've been doing (and taking pictures of) lately....

Tonight I had my bridal portraits done around my house by the lovely Anne Abernathy of Stanley. It was so much fun! Planning a wedding is overwhelming, especially if you add in the constant reminder of unemployment. Ugh, such an ugly word isn't it?!? So it was really nice to be able to take a day and just be excited. This morning my grandmother came over and helped finish my dress as my mom and I made my veil. I'm really excited to see how my pictures turned out. All last week I worked on my wine bottles and ordered more peacock feathers (from wholesalefloral.com) and my favors (which I am stoked about!). Today was a refreshing reminder that it's all going to be worth it in the end.

Oh, and that one picture is just of my adorable Albert. He's my rescue who hails from Wilson. He took his playtime to the extreme!

with the never ending-always-disappointing job search, but seriously, it's a bit overwhelming. So instead, I've thrown myself in every other possible direction. I've had some success with selling items on ebay. Especially since everything I've been selling I was just going to throw away anyway. I've made roughly $100 but it's taken me a month! I've also taken wedding decorations by storm and scrubbed off the labels of 200-ish wine bottles. This week I plan on finishing all the boutonnieres and bouquets. Mom and I have been slowly re-doing her house, last week was spent working on the kitchen, which I must say is turning out quite well. I know Luke is trying to be patient with me, but I also know I'm on a timeline here. He's trying not to show how stressed out he's getting about bills and being able to do the things we want to do. I just keep hoping and praying something turns up soon!

Who needs to hire a decorator when I can do it myself?? Who needs a corporate job when I'm going to make it on my own?

Well at least that's how I feel right now. Give me a few more weeks and we'll see if I feel the same. My dad got a glass cutter from ebay a few weeks ago because we've come up with a few neat ideas for wedding decorations. Luke and I started working on cutting the bottoms of wine bottles off. My main decoration is wine bottles. They're readily available and fairly cheap to come by. Especially when you and all of your friends loooove a good wine night. Plus I think the colored glass is going to look so pretty on simple tablecloths with candlelight. That's my basic idea anyways. Back to my original story, Luke and I started cutting them and I was actually surprised with how well it worked. It takes a while to get going, because you have to score the bottles with the cutter, then tap the score from the inside, and then it's back and forth between boiling water and ice water until it finally cracks free. Of course, the edges will need to be smoothed, but voila!, I have special pieces for my tables. I will post you some pictures once we finish a few more. I had my first successful week of ebay sales this week. It's so simple! While doing all of this moving around, I've collected bags of things I need to get rid of. Pocketbooks, shoes, dresses, home accessories, all things I've rarely worn or used (if I ever did at all!) and will most likely never use at all. Rather than just throw them away, I might as well try and recoup some of the money I've spent of them over the years. My mom also wants me to try and sell some of her crafts. She has amazing talent and can make or has made almost anything over the years. She was rifted from her teaching job again this year (laid off), and seriously doubts that she will get her job back in the fall. Since we're both a little unemployed, lets figure out what it is we really want to do with our lives. What have we got to lose?

So about my big adventure.... Friday morning I got up at 5 a.m. so I could be at the train station in Charlotte by 6:15. I took the Amtrak for the first time ever and it was really a lot of fun. Definitely better than driving alone. I got to Wilson just before 11:30, and my love, Ashley picked me up. We went on to Greenville and made a day of it! We had fried sushi for lunch, got her car inspected, swung by the store so I could pick up some wine bottles from Lindsay, and sat at Sonic drinking happy hour slushies until Stacey left from her last day at work. As it turns out, she is also moving back home. Ironically enough it is for completely different reasons but our homes aren't too far apart and we're both looking to start new lives. We packed up the remainder of Stacey's things, got ready and had a goodbye celebration at Winslow's. Once again, it was so good to see everyone but it was even more bittersweet knowing that this time was seriously the last time. Stace and I loaded up her car Saturday morning and with Greenville forever in our dust, headed back west.

Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, Luke and I spent with his best friend and his family. His friend's father passed away earlier in the week after complications from an ATV wreck. It was really just an unbelievable tragedy. My heart goes out to them.

Monday night Luke was working out of town and Lindsey's dad was gone on a motorcycle ride, so we threw ourselves a good old fashioned girls night. We drank Sangria, creeped on Facebook, gossiped about all the news that has happened since we last spoke, planned out bachelorette details and had a dance-a-thon. I was so sore when I woke up Tuesday morning. There was a "Pretty Little Liars" marathon on all day Tuesday, so of course she got me addicted. It's just so strange to think that even after all the changes we've experienced in the last few months, that even more will change in the few months ahead. Our girls nights are going to be few and far between, but we better grasp the opportunity every time we can. Friends like this are hard to come by.

I've done it.

I've officially left Greenville for good and am back home in my parent's house in Alexis.

My months of complaining and worrying are over. (Aren't you glad?!?) Now it's on to new worries and adventures. I moved to Greenville on my terms, I lived my life in Greenville on my terms, and today I left it on my terms. I was feeling really brave all day. Even with Ashley coming to see me off and me realizing we are no longer going to be just a text away from each other, and even when I dropped off my keys and hit the highway with my mom going on about all of our wedding projects we can work on, and even when my grandparents came by the house this evening and were asking what I'm going to do now. I was feeling brave all the way up to just a bit ago, when my dad told me to do whatever makes me happy. Suddenly I wasn't brave anymore. My reality came crashing in and I couldn't find an answer as to what makes me happy. The only thing I could come up with was that I'm my happiest when I'm on my own terms. When I don't have someone hovering over me managing my day for me. When I wake up with a game plan for the day that is all my own. When I can do what I love without having to answer to someone or have them tell me it's not good enough. I interviewed with Cato a few weeks back to work in their corporate office here in Charlotte and while I was in love with walking down a hall lined with samples after samples of new fashions, I couldn't shake the slight dread that filled me as I looked in and saw all of those people working in their tiny cubicles. I found out this past week that I didn't get the job even though I was more than qualified for it. Part of me was disappointed because I don't like to be beat, but an even bigger part of me was relieved. Not many people get a chance to take a moment and figure out what it is they really want to do. Most people fall into a job, get so busy with the job and doing everything "right", and don't realize that they hate their job until 30 years later when it's too late to do anything about it. I don't want that. My dad and I did some soul searching earlier and we came up with a few really good ideas. It's going to be hard, and take a lot of guts, but I can do this. I can make my way through this world on my own terms.

Oh, and of course with my husband in tow. Err future husband. Errr forever boyfriend. Yea, forever boyfriend. The word husband makes me feel way old. =]

I feel like every time I start the packing process I think, I don't have much, then I actually start and I'm disgusted by how much I actually do have. I'm so tempted to just throw everything away and start over! Im honestly beginning to wonder if I'll ever get finished! Any good tips out there for the best way to stay organized through a move?

Calm before the storm

After hours of packing, I've given myself a break and am laying out in the field near the river by my apartment. Libs and I are just trying to soak everything in. As much as I hate Greenville one day, I'm in love with it the next. Last night the girls I work with threw me a going away party at Winslows downtown. It was really nice to have a chance to say goodbye to everyone. The people are what I'm going to miss most about this place I've called home for the last 5 years.

I'm starting to get excited for the next step. Employed or not, I always like to think of myself as the girl who lands on her feet.

Things have done nothing but continue to get crazy. First, I woke up the morning of my 23rd birthday legitimately feeling older. You know how every birthday someone asks you if you feel any older? I usually respond with "no,not really" because I don't. I always feel just as I did the day before. This year as I was staring at my ceiling I felt every bit of 23. At 23 I'm going to move back to my hometown, be jobless, get married and start a completely new life. This is the year I can't come back from. This year will change my world as I know it. Terrifying and exhilarating all at the same time.

Friday is my last day at Overton's. Friday night my coworkers are throwing me a goodbye party downtown and Sunday my parents are coming to help me move. The next time I'm in Greenville, I'll be visiting. What a crazy thought! My closet looks soo strange all empty. I visited my good friend, Kristina, this weekend in Swansboro for our friend's,George and Jill, wedding. I insisted we walk down the beach so I could just see it. I'll never live this close to it again. I wanna soak it all in.

Time flies

I know this is all I talk about, but I feel like every time I turn around lately, I'm being reminded of how nothing stays the same. My kid brother turned .. wait for it... TWENTY Friday. 20! How did this happen? When I left home he didn't even have his permit yet, and now he really is almost a grown up! Not that he acts it, but still. That just means I'll be 23 this Friday. I honestly stopped counting at 19. Where has the time gone? I know, I know, enough of the ranting. Time is going to keep flying and I'm still going to wonder why. Started off the week with the chillest weekend I've had in a long time. It included a much needed date night with my girls, followed by thinking not-so-appropriate thoughts about Zac Efron in "The Lucky One", and an entire Sunday in my pajamas. As far as work goes, I couldn't have asked for a more pleasant week. My load is ridiculous, but I just keep chipping away at it. Tonight I had a much needed yet flawed Skype date with my Lindsey and Megan. Flawed because they could see each other and hear me and I could only hear them and see no one. It was still perfect. Made me realize how much I do miss them in my every day life and how grateful I am to have them. We made a date for Tuesday to try the Hangout on Google+. We tried it tonight but all of us had to set up profiles and then find each other. Supposedly on Google+, once you do find your friends and add them to your "circles" it takes hours to update. Until then, you cant really do anything. Hopefully by Tuesday, everything will be updated and I can see both of their faces in our hangout. Anyone out there understand how Google+ works? It's no Facebook, that's for sure.

Weekend things (even though it's Wednesday)

Even though it costs me $56 a tank to do it, I went home this weekend for my dear friend Julie's wedding. It was perfect! She looked so gorgeous and Trey looked so proud he could pop! I'm so happy for them! I got to catch up with another girl I went to high school with, Cece, and I forgot how much I always liked her! We were comparing notes on what we were doing and what we'd heard other people were doing and once again it hit me how fast time flies. One girl is having another baby, another is on her second marriage, and yet some people have still never left home! We're coming up on our 5 years since graduation and I am no where near the same person I was then. Most of my old friends aren't either for that matter. We've all grown and changed and became people no one would recognize. It's just so strange when you run into someone from the past that you used to know better than yourself and they're now just another stranger. I guess one day I'll stop being so shocked, til then...

After some serious girl talk at the wedding, I got to spend some quality time with Luke and my brother, Michael. We shot potato cannons of course. But still, it was nice. Back to reality though, which includes agonizing system updates at work and trying to find a new place to work!
