My first poem, much inspired by Rumi's poem " Say I am you".

Humanity I am

Eyes on the sky
Heart at the border of the cliff
The angel stretches out his arms
The beloved leans over and confides
Look at yourself,
see me
and be happy!
Be mad
Be visionary
Be cheerful or sad
But never forget to be human
As it is through your humanity that I exist
The world needs you
Because I am you.

Dedicated to Rumi and to all lovers in the world

I wish you all a happy happy new year filled with health, joy and love.

As with previous years, 2011 came to me with its lessons.

I learned a little more about human beings, which is a subject I am passionate about.
I also learned about treason, evil and dirt, which I do not like much as you can imagine :).!!

I discovered how some people, because of their color, their situation or simply a superiority complex they have would try to control you and take advantage of you.

I discovered that no matter the teachings of history, no matter that we now live in the 21st century, some old demons are still alive.

With no surprise, it is love that allowed me to go through this experience.... Love from my family, love from my friends, and love from the Beloved.

He put a guide in my path in the "person" of Rumi.
Rumi is a persian poet and sufi mystic from the 13 century. I only discovered his great work this year and I am deeply touched by his poetry as I have not been by any poet before.

I think I know why, it is because he speaks the simple language of love and truth, which is the universal language of the soul.

And then all this to arrive at this simple conclusion: My soul belongs to the Beloved as it has always been and as it will always be......and that's it :)

So, intelligent people, please listen to your heart, you would do yourself and the world a great favor!!!
Kindly people, please stay kind, as you are making the world a better place!!!

The poem of Rumi below is my gift to all of you, as it is a gift of love and sharing, and I wish it will accompany you through a bright 2012. Happy new year to you!

Like every year, when christmas approaches, I have this same feeling of being blessed, and I ask myself this same question, why is there so much suffering in the world?
Why are some children so blessed with good health and wealth, and some with disease and poverty. Why is there so much inequality between north and south, etc...

When I look at the world, as I said, the thing that disturbs me most is the condition of some children. And today I got to find the solution, it is on this sentence of this beautiful gregorian song...I love gregorian songs :):
"Glória in excélsis Deo et in terra pax homínibus bonae voluntátis".......
"Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill to all people"......

The solution is GOODWILL. I think many of the horrible situations in this world could be resolved if there were more people of goodwill.

So I made my list for Santa as I think I have been nice this year :), and I am asking him that all the children in the world no matter their country or religion will find on their way an angel of goodwill to bring a smile on their face for christmas.

A great voice has gone back to the angels, and will be much missed here!
Cesaria Evora, the wonderful voice and one of the great african divas has left us for the big travel...
This is so sad, but as strange as it is, the beautiful thing with art and talent is that it never dies.
Her music is already inscribed in eternity, like a gift from an angel.
Rest in peace Cesaria Evora!

Less than one year after Fukushima nuclear disaster, Greenpeace in one of their daring operations of which only they know how to pull of, has exposed a fragility in the french nuclear system.

After Fukushima, the french government has told its citizens that it has the most secure nuclear system, and that no catastrophe could happen to its nuclear reactors.
Fortunately for the said government, it is environmental activists that penetrated several of the french nuclear installation to its core.
Just as a reminder, France is the second nuclear country in the world after japan with 58 nuclear reactors, and depending for almost 80% of nuclear energy.
So now what?
Is it still so secure, or will the french government try to find other alternatives to its energy needs?
I haven't even begun to talk of Nuclear waste......

Just to tell them how much I love them :)...

They are not here anymore, but I am sure they would love it.
Anyway, they are still alive, very strong in my heart!

This collection "Mandeka" Is dedicated to my Mandeka's grandmas.

My grand parents place is such a place of comfort and love for me. I felt like a princess with them!

Mandeka means people from the Mande (Mande is an ancient culture located in west Africa)

This collection is made of true indigo fabric, and hand dyed batik fabric which is a specialty of the women of my tribe.
Indigo is usually used in marriage ceremonies, and indigo as well as other type of fabrics and jewelry and gold would be given to the bride as a "trousseau".

This collection "Granny" is dedicated to my french grandma.

She was such a sweet woman, and would always make handmade dolls for us, and send us sweet candies. She had one of the most beautiful garden I have ever seen!
She had a lovely house which she took good care of.

The type of hand embroidered linen hemp cloth or metis ( half linen half cotton ) fabrics that I used for this collection was usually given to them the day they married, and they would give them to their daughters as a "trousseau" when it is their turn to marry.

I have been watching 2 interesting movies, both treating the same subject in a different manner:

The first one is the award-winning documentary "Collapse" directed by reporter Chris Smith featuring whistleblower Michael Ruppert.

The second one is also an award-winning documentary " A crude awakening" directed by Basil Gelpke and Ray McCormack.

These two movies tell about the end of the oil era, the human civilization as we have known it for the past century, and the beginning of a new human civilization which will have to be by essence (with no more oil) based on different values.
We have started experiencing these changes, and we want the change to be the best possible.

Yes, the holiday was nice, and the summer lovely, but it is now time to go back to work :) I am so thankful to be able to have an activity that I like, and so thankful to have people who enjoy my creations! So I am back to work, already working on some custom projects, and preparing for the holiday season. And of course, my shop angelshair on etsy has reopened!!!!

I spent a few days in Paris this summer, and thought it would be fun to share the pictures I took in the format of a postcard. This is something I thing I will do in the future for all the places I visit. It helps having a feel of the place, and I also think it will help me for my upcoming designs.

Yes, like a bridge over troubled water.... What a beautiful song!!

Well this is exactly where I am today, I am behind freedom flotilla II heading to Gaza. The power of imagination, and where it can lead you :). Why am I there? Well, I could try to explain, but I wouldn't do it as well as writer Alice Walker who explains it in her blog. It is as if she is speaking my mind. She will be in one of the 10 boats heading to Gaza trying to break this blockade that makes the life condition of 1.5 millions people (including children) inhuman. Human right activist's lives are threatened everyday, everywhere in the world, and yet they continue their actions. I so much appreciate the action of these men and women, and I want my children, my family, my friends and the world to know it because this is who I am and this is what I want to be reminded as: A HUMAN BEING WHO CARES. And I will finish by this quote from Nelson Mandela: “For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”

Today, I am an echo.
I am an echo of the cry of the Xinguano people who are paying for their lives to defend the land, their homes, their forest, and their trees.

These people are being murdered because they are defending what they believe in and what they live for. We are in the 21st century, and indigenous environmental activists are being murdered. This happens in Brazil, it is so far away that it would be easier to read, regret, and move on, but I can't, because with each person that disappears, it is like part of me is lost as well. I couldn't really explain, but I do have empathy, and today, I AM AN ECHO. Would you be an echo too so that this cry will become so unbearable that this will stop?

Anatomy of a myth

An interesting myth I wanted to talk about today is the one of Sirens. Sirens in ancient Greece were Half women half birds. They had enchanting voices and sang to sailors to attract them to rocky coast were they would die.

Later, the representation of the sirens changed to half woman half fish, and they were then called mermaid but still had the same attributes, beautiful voices, singing songs to attracts men into their underwater world, forgetting that these men couldn't breath there. Note that here, the men would die not because of a will to kill them, but because of their ignorance.

Hans Christen Andersen has written the most famous mermaid tale: "The little mermaid", which also gave the little mermaid some human attributes of love and compassion,....but still no soul. To acquire a soul, she must agree to give up an almost immortality.
In African myths, Mami wata ( mother water) is also often represented as a half woman half fish or snake.

It is in african mythology that she has the most deep and complete representation and attributes. She is a powerful goddess, she has the spiritual power to heal, make wealthy and so on. When she choose a man to take underwater, if she decides to release him, the man can return to his life, and will usually grow wealthier, healthier with deepest spiritual understanding of the world.

The look of love is saying so much more than the words could ever say....

And Nina Simon says it with so much sensuality. I love this song. I can play it again and again for hours :).

Nina simon has such a voice that I just feel it. I know this is the case with music in general, but with her it's just different,...I feel a total empathy, and this with all of her songs. Beautiful Nina, I love you!!!!

Miriam Makeba is my favorite singer, and today, I wanted to share this beautiful song with you.
She was born in South Africa during Apartheid, and lived the largest part of her life in exile fighting against the apartheid system. She is a wonderful voice, and a great human being. She was also known as Mama Africa. I had the chance to see her in a concert in Paris, and this was a fantastic moment for me. I think my name was inspired by her. I simply love her.

It's been such a long time since my last post!!
I felt so tired after the holiday season that has been so active for me. In addition to the classic holiday sales, I had some really nice orders and custom orders from january to march.
This was really exhausting, but in the meantime enhancive for the effort I put in my work.
So I owe a big thank you to my customers, and to all my friends and network that have supported and encouraged me all this time!

After I rested a little bit, I started working on my spring-summer pillow collections. I know spring has already come, (and it is soooo beautiful here in Brooklyn), but better late than never :)
So finally here it is.
