I think Kumar Sangakkara is currently the best wicket keeper. He averages above 30 in all three formats of the game and he is currently 5th in both ODI and Test and 9th in Twenty20. Sanga always score runs in crunch time for his team. He single handedly won many matches for his country and more importantly he is consistent with the bat that is what a wicket-keeper should do, which makes him the current best wicket-keeper in the world and there is no doubt about it.

Balapuwaduge Ajantha Winslo Mendis

2012-06-11T12:24:00.000-07:00

Where is he ?????......

Jerome Jayaratne, the Sri Lanka Cricket Academy coach, said: "Mendis is unusual, freaky and has developed a ball which could be described as a 'flicker', which he releases with a snap of his fingers, which is very unusual compared to other orthodox spin bowlers."

In his maiden international appearance Mendis had the cricket world in a spin with the way he conjured his deliveries to leave the West Indies batsmen flummoxed. Classified as an offspinner, Mendis could bowl five different deliveries in one over, which always kept the batsmen guessing.

Ajantha Mendis was an absolute nightmare to opposition batsmen. Even his teammates who practiced with him in the nets for hours conceded that they had little idea what was to come out from those hands. The secret of his success has been the ability to be accurate with every delivery while at the same time displaying variety.

Bowling Statistics:

The early success was built as much on his variations - offbreaks, topspinners, carrom balls, doosra, googlies, ones that did nothing - as it was on accuracy and Muttiah Muralitharan's company. As the mystery wore, though, much like with Iverson and Gleeson, the world caught up with him, and Mendis failed to live up to the early promise.

Matches	Runs	Wickets	Average	Economy	5 wickets	BBI	Extras
TEST	16	2014	62	32.48	3.02	3	6/117	39
ODI	59	1992	96	20.75	4.33	3	6/13	50
T20	21	445	40	11.12	5.63	1	5.63	8
IPL	7	207	40	34.5	7.39	-	2/19	4

His best bowling performance in a One Day International came in the final of the 2008 Asia Cup, where he took 6 wickets for 13 runs in just his eighth match. Ajantha Mendis won the man of the match award in the finals and his 17 wickets in the tournament earned him the Man of the Series award. His 6 for 13 is the third-best bowling performance in a tournament final, and the third-best for a spinner in ODIs.

Mendis took his first 10-wicket haul in Test cricket in just his second Test in 2008 against India. Mendis became the first Sri Lankan to take a five-wicket haul and the first player to have taken a six-wicket haul in T20Is.

Achievements:

On September 10, 2008, Ajantha Mendis has won the “Emerging Player of the Year” award at the ICC Awards ceremony in Dubai.

He became the first bowler to take six wickets in a Twenty20 international.

He claimed 68 wickets in just 9 matches in the domestic Sri Lankan tournament which is a record in any form of cricket.

With 26 wickets, Mendis passed Alec Bedser's world record for most wickets on debut in a three-match series.

He has also broken fastest 50 wicket record in ODI, previously held by Ajit Agarkar of India for 23 matches. He broke the record by snatching 50 wickets in just 19 matches.

Because of his fitness issues he was recently in and out in the side and couldn't retain a permanent spot in the squad and I think that is the reason why he was struggling with the ball recently.

I think Mendis should only play ODI's and Twenty20 so that his bowling should not be exposed, in the Test matches where batsmen have many days and hours to figure out the types of balls delivered by him; unlike in the case of 50 overs and Twenty20 over games where he could be used in short spells. By adopting this tactic, batsmen will be deprived of reading his action properly and coping with his bowling.

I think his mystery is gone but still he is currently the Sri Lanka`s no 1 spinner.

Kevin Pietersen

2012-06-07T09:16:00.001-07:00

But why KP ?????.....

There was a time when Brian Lara ruled the world of batting, West Indies were accused of being a one-man show and now Kevin Pietersen has done the same for England.

Cricket fans from all over the world where shocked when the heard the news that England's Amazing Batsman Kevin Pietersen has announced retirement from the T20 and ODI Cricket however he will continue to play test Cricket.

The decision come on the back of a breakthrough 2012 season in the IPL, in which he scored 305 runs for Delhi Daredevils, but although he said wanted to continue playing Twenty20 cricket for England, the ECB decided it could not let him cherry-pick formats. Pietersen's preferred option was to play two versions of the game for England - Tests and T20s. However, the ECB is adamant players must be prepared to commit to both short forms of the game or else play neither.

However, he has no plans to retire from the IPL, which will further increase tensions between the IPL and international cricket and heighten the debate over whether a window is becoming increasingly necessary to seek accommodation between the tournament and the international circuit.

Matches	Innings	Runs	High score	Average	Strike rate	100	50
TEST	152	257	12379	224	56.78	45.59	42	55
ODI	321	307	11498	139	45.26	72.97	17	85
T20	17	17	573	73	35.81	122.17	-	5
IPL	70	69	1853	89*	30.88	110.95	-	15

The South Africa-born batsman was man of the tournament when England won the title in the West Indies in 2010, and had indicated a willingness to remain part of the T20 squad in Sri Lanka this year.

Kevin Peterson has said that "I have taken this big decision to give place to fresh blood which will be helpful for preparations of Cricket World Cup 2015".

His lust for box-office performances make him a match winner in all forms of the game but his ability to command attention is matched only by his ability to divide opinion.

Achievements:

Kevin Pietersen achieved 5,000 test runs in the fastest time, reaching this feat in 4 years and 243 days.

He was named both the ICC ODI Player of the Year and Emerging Player of the Year in 2005.

He also scored fastest century in ODI by an England player in 69 balls against SA, 2005.

He was also the fastest batsman to reach 1,000 and 2,000 runs in ODI.

Pietersen, the only England player to surpass 1,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket.

He went on to reach 1000 one-day runs in just 21 innings - equaling Viv Richards' record.

Kevin is a world-class player and no doubt about that, we will of course, miss Pietersen's outrageous shots and his prima-donna moments in ODI's and Twenty20. We look forward to his continued contributions to the Test match side. I wish him good luck in his test and IPL career.....he always says truth without fear...a great person and a player.

VJD Method

2012-06-03T11:18:00.004-07:00

Is VJD better than D/L...

The Duckworth-Lewis system for calculating target scores in rain-interrupted one-day internationals has come in for plenty of debate, but it is clearly the best of all methods that have been used so far. The question is, is there a better system which can challenge Duckworth and Lewis?

The Jayadevan system, also known as the VJD method, is a proposed method for calculating target scores in interrupted One-day and Twenty20 cricket matches. The method was devised by V.Jayadevan, an engineer from the state of Kerala in India.

When the match is hit by rain or bad light stops play, the key idea is to reset targets based on a combined resource percentage that considers both ‘overs remaining’ and ‘wickets in hand’. The underlying mathematics is pretty complex and I won’t even attempt to explain it here. But I will point out some of the differences between them.

Comparison with the Duckworth Lewis method:

It needs to be pointed out, though, that in most cases the results of both methods are fairly similar. The earlier version of D/L had some glaring flaws, but the newer version has eliminated most of them.

Both the Duckworth Lewis method and the Jayadevan System use a statistical method to determine what proportion of a team's runs it is expected to have scored, based upon the number of overs faced and the number of wickets lost (traditionally referred to as the resources available to a team). However, there are two primary differences between the two methods:

Firstly, the mathematical relationship used in the Duckworth Lewis system assumes that a team's scoring rate accelerates throughout the team's innings – slowly at first, but more rapidly during the final ten to fifteen overs (the "slog overs"). Jayadevan's relationship is more empirical than Duckworth-Lewis', and assumes that the scoring rate is faster during the first fifteen to twenty overs during fielding restrictions, decelerates during the middle overs when most teams try to consolidate their innings, and then accelerates again for the slog overs. In this way, Jayadevan tries to improve upon Duckworth-Lewis' notion of the "typical innings".

Secondly, Duckworth-Lewis is based upon a single set of curves which is used to make all adjustments to the scores. The Jayadevan method has two different curves: the "normal curves", which are used to adjust runs already scored by the batting team; and the "target curve", which is used to adjust the runs that the batting team is yet to score. Jayadevan's justification for this is that prior to a rain interruption, a team will base its batting tactics on the assumption that it has its full quota of overs available; but, following an interruption, a team can change its batting tactics to suit the new number of overs – so, if the tactics are inherently different, the curves used to calculate the run targets should also be different.

Under Jayadevan's method, the "normal" curve takes into account both the percentage of overs played and the percentage of wickets lost. The "target" curve considers only the percentage of overs played; i.e. no adjustment is made according to the number of wickets lost.

I think ICC may still want to continue with the D/L method for the near future, but it might be a good idea for them to monitor Jayadevan's system and study the results it delivers in different match scenarios over a period of time. I believe it is now time to give Jayadevan’s VJD method a chance at least for two years.

Mohammad Ashraful

2012-05-31T11:16:00.003-07:00

Finally back for the Tigers...

Muhammad Ashraful, the Bangladesh batsman, has been recalled for the unofficial Twenty20 tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa next month.

One of Bangladesh’s most talented middle order batsmen, Mohammad Ashraful entered the international arena at the age of 17 and did it with a bang. On September 8, 2001, at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, Muhammad Ashraful turned a terrible mismatch into a slice of history by becoming the youngest batsman to make a Test Century.

Matches	Innings	Runs	High score	Average	Strike rate	100	50
TEST	57	111	2419	158*	22.60	46.68	5	8
ODI	171	164	3397	109	22.49	70.12	3	20
T20	16	16	289	65	18.06	141.66	-	2

This tri-series will be crucial for him because if he performed well in this series, there is a possibility that he will be selected for the ODIs and Tests, and Bangladesh team needs a strong middle order player who can take responsibility in crunch time.

Aussies in IPL

2012-05-21T11:24:00.000-07:00

As the IPL 2012 is ended I decided to catch up and see how the Australian had performed in the tournament..

Batting Statistics:

Cameron White leads the Australian batsman in the IPL 2012 with 479 runs to his name. The Australian batsman have been very clinical in their approach as the table below indicates. All of them averages over 25, which is a good number for T20 cricket and all the players have scored at a strike rate of above 100. David Warner was the only Aussie to score a century in IPL 2012.

Matches	Runs	Highest	Average	Strike rate	50	100

Bowling Statistics:

Ben Hilfenhaus leads the Aussies bowling in the IPL 2012 with 14 wickets with an economy of just over 6. Non of the Australian players, played all of the matches for their respective franchises. Which is the reason why they didn't got most if the wickets.

Jacques Henry Kallis

2012-05-18T05:39:00.000-07:00

Do you think Kallis is the best of all time ?? If not... think again...

Jacques Kallis is the most complete all-rounder. No other player has fused batting and bowling ability and consistently performed for a decade and a half's stretch in multiple forms of the game as Kallis has.

His first Test appearance was in December 1995 against England in Durban but he struggled with the bat in his first few matches. He is one of the greatest all-rounders of all time, being the only cricketer in the history of the game to hold more than 12000 runs and 250 wickets in both ODI and Test match cricket. He has the second highest centuries in test cricket. I think Kallis is probably one of the best defensive players in the world.

BATTING STATISTICS:

He leads all South African batsman in runs in both Test and ODI cricket. He is currently 3rd in test, 14th in ODI and 12th in T20 with the bat which is phenomenal. Jacques Kallis has scored more international centuries than any other South Africa player. Along with Don Bradman, Muhammad Yousuf, and Gautam Gambhir, Jacques Kallis became the only other batsman to score centuries in 5 consecutive Tests. His 24-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in 2005 is the fastest Test fifty so far. In 2012, Kallis batted for almost 435 minutes to reach his highest score of the career in a test against Sir Lanka.

Matches	Innings	Runs	High score	Average	Strike rate	100	50
TEST	152	257	12379	224	56.78	45.59	42	55
ODI	321	307	11498	139	45.26	72.97	17	85
T20	17	17	573	73	35.81	122.17	-	5
IPL	70	69	1853	89*	30.88	110.95	-	15

BOWLING STATISTICS:

In 2008 more responsibility was placed on Kallis as an all-rounder due to the retirement of Shaun pllock. Although he is better with the bat than the ball, he could bowl upwards of 85 miles per hour and had a nasty surprise bouncer in his armoury. Jacques Kallis is South Africa's finest cricketers and, arguably, the best all-rounder in the history of the game.

Matches	Runs	Wickets	Average	Economy	5 wickets	BBI	Extras
TEST	152	8957	276	32.45	2.83	5	6/54	182
ODI	321	8558	270	31.69	4.82	2	5/30	366
T20	17	229	5	45.8	7.38	-	2/20	6
IPL	70	1623	40	40.57	7.98	-	2/3	39

There is only one player in history of cricket who can be compared with the all-round performance of Kallis i.e. Sir Garfield Sober. The numbers don't lie, and the numbers say that Sir Garfield Sober had a batting average of 57.78 and a bowling average of 34.04 across a 20-year career - startlingly similar to kallis' 56.78 and 32.45 in a career that is in its 15th year.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

During the course of his carrer, kallis has topped the ICC ranking for Test batting, Test all-rounders, ODI batting and ODI all-rounders. In 2005 he was named as ICC Test player of the year. Along with Andrew Flintoff he was named as the ICC Player of the year in 2005. He was crowned as South Africa's Cricketer of the year at the 2011 South African cricket awards in Johannesburg.

Muhammad Hafeez

2012-05-17T00:29:00.001-07:00

Is the PROFESSOR ready ????

History of Pakistan cricket is full with unmatched players. Pakistan have produced some such talented and legendary cricketers, whose replacement could never be found. Production of such great players hasn't stopped yet. In current time too, Pakistan cricket team is having some great players like Asad Shafiq, Hammad Azam, Ahmed Shehzad, Shakeel Ansar, Azhar Ali, Khalid Latif and Muhammad Hafeez.

Former stars have urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a change in leadership of the Pakistan team for the shorter version of the game.

Muhammad Hafeez was recently named as the captain of Pakistan T20I.

The question has been raised that is he ready for the job ???

There aren't many candidates for captaincy. In my opinion we need a guy in T20s to captain for the purpose of grooming him for all three formats. A bit like what Australia did with Michael Clarke.

Muhammad hafeez first played for Pakistan in 2003, but it was only in 2011 that he finally became a regular in the side in all formats..

Another admirable thing about Muhammad Hafeez is that he has never been part of any controversy. He keeps his eyes on his performance and fitness. That is the key for his success, and that is why his teammates call him a "PROFESSOR".

Muhammad Hafeez was nominated for the ICC's annual awards 2010-11. Mohammad Hafeez has received 11 Man of the match awards in his 8 years career, best part is that he won 9 of those 11 awards in year 2011.

He is a opening batsman and a handy offspin bowler.. He is currently on No.4 in T20I all rounders and No.7 in T20I bowling.. His batting average as an opener is 28.60 and has a bowling economy of 6.89 which is phenomenal.. that's what makes him a perfect T20I All rounder which is a good sigh for Pakistan Cricket Board..

His plus point is that he is a 'thinker' so he can improvise and adjust according to the situation but I'm not too sure if he can get the unit as well as Misbah ..

There aren't many who have stable spots in limited overs and i hope Hafeez won't disappoint the selectors besides we need a new captain because Misbah is not going to lead the squad forever..

Ricky Ponting

2012-05-08T12:36:00.000-07:00

Ricky Thomas Ponting a.k.a Punter ..

According to former Australian captain Allan Border, what you see with Ponting is what you get, and "he wears his heart on his sleeve". Border also noted that Ponting has an abundance of determination, courage and skill.

Ponting is Australia's leading ODI run-scorer and century maker .. He has the second most centuries ever, behind only Tendulkar .. He is currently the second leading run scorer in test cricket with 13346 runs and averages 52.75 in 165 matches .. Ponting became the first Australian to reach 10,000 runs in ODI Cricket and the 7th in world cricket to achieve this distinction ..

Not only that. he was also One-Day International Player of the Year of 2002 , ICC Test Player of the Year of 2003, 2004, 2006 and ICC Player of the Year of 2006, 2007 .. He led Australia to 34 consecutive undefeated World Cup games .. He achieved a lot throughout his carrier ..

Australia is still No.1 in the ODI ranking because of him .. Now Michael Clarke only have to follow his footsteps ..

Ricky Ponting quit captainship on 28th March 2011 when his team returned from quarterfinal of world cup 2011.

Ricky is surely strugling with his batting form since 2011 World Cup .. He scored his last century against India in 2011 March but unfortunately they have lost the match ..

In his last 3 test matches against West Indies he scored: 23 , 57 , 7 , 41 , 4 , 14 ..

In his last 5 ODIs he scored 2, 1, 6, 2 and 7

He clearly has catching up to do because in June Australia is touring England..

Ponting is currently the most experience player in the side and he should be selected for the England tour the only reason for that is , the team remains in balance with Ponting in the side .. Australia Cricket Board , is clearly struggling in finding someone to replace Ponting .. and the youngsters will learn alot when he is in the side ..

And I hope he will be back in the side and regain solid position in both ODIs and Test ..

Ponting accentuates these gifts with focus and hard work and if he has learnt anything on his cricket journey, it is to make sure he stays ahead of the pack ..

Christopher Henry Gayle is back for the West Indies

2012-05-03T13:07:00.000-07:00

A thrusting Jamaican left-hander, Gayle earned himself a black mark on his first senior tour - to England in 2000 - where the new boys were felt to be insufficiently respectful of their elders. But a lack of respect, for opposition bowlers at least, has served Gayle well since then. Tall and imposing at the crease, he loves to carve through the covers off either foot, and has the ability to decimate the figures of even the thriftiest of opening bowlers.

Chris Gayle haven't played any match for West Indies since Mar 23, 2011 .. Earlier this year he signed for the Somerset to play Friends Life t20 competition in England .. but he has pulled out of his Twenty20 contract with Somerset, declaring himself committed to playing for West Indies in all forms of the game ..Gayle was not chosen in the Test squad for the England tour but after progress was made in reaching a resolution between the two parties, he was considered to have a chance to be selected for the three ODIs that follow the Tests ..

West Indies has already announced their test squad i.e. Darren Sammy (capt); Kirk Edwards (vice-capt); Adrian Barath; Darren Bravo; Shivnarine Chanderpaul; Narsingh Deonarine; Fidel Edwards; Assad Fudadin; Shannon Gabriel; Kieran Powell; Kemar Roach; Denesh Ramdin; Ravi Rampaul; Marlon Samuels; Shane Shillingford.. So Chris Gayle wont be playing the test series against England ...

Chris Gayle test Batting stats ; Matches: 91, Innings: 159, Not out: 6, Runs: 6373, Highest Score: 333, Average: 41.65, Strike Rate: 59.10, Hundreds: 13, Fifties: 33.

Chris Gayle ODI Batting stats ; Matches: 228, Innings: 223, Not out: 16, Runs: 8087, Highest Score: 153*, Average: 39.06, Strike Rate: 83.95, Hundreds: 19, Fifties: 43.

His average as a opener in all formats of the game is tremendous ,.. And simply there is no other player who can replace him at the moment , he is the right man for the job .. Ottis Gibson, the West Indies coach, said if Gayle was available, he would "definitely be picked" .. Which makes a better chance for him to be selected for the ODIs and T20s..

Youngsters will surely learn a lot from him when he is around .. He is always have been very helpful to the boys coming new to the side and that is the only reason he is playing domestic T20 tournaments for almost every country .. Hopes he makes a successful come back in all format of the games and leads the team towards victory..

Super 40 League

SUPER 40 LEAGUE:

This concept is recently presented by Former Test player of pakistan Amir Sohail and I hope it will be a success.. because its a new idea and players will be attracted towards this format of the game ...

The original idea is that .. There will be two innings of 20 overs per side .. First innings will be same as a T20 match but in the second innings power play shall be in the last six overs , and no over limit for one bowler in second inning ..

People around the world has totally forgotten the original format of the game i.e. Test cricket ... The main reason is that ,T20 cricket is full of entertainment that is why more and more people attract towards it .. But this concept of SUPER 40 LEAGUE is the combination of both test and T20 .. This will be the test of the players skills .. This is also a step for the revival of Test cricket ...

PCB should look into this matter and instead of PPL (Pakistan Premier League) introduce SUPER 40 LEAGUE ... And if SUPER 40 LEAGUE is approved by ICC then it will be a great success for Pakistan and international cricket will soon be back in Pakistan through this event .. And there is no better way to do that ..
