In a survey conducted by a firm, results showed that what sort of articles or blogs people want to read. Let me quickly show you what we got.

We see that, people want to hear about them, their problems and their problem’s solution. Not you. But yes you might become their topic of concern one day if you keep showing your readers that you really care about them.

One thing really clear about the survey is, they are not interested in the interview of the top executive of the firm? Why? Because the interview will be about the executive. It looks mean but it isn’t.

As this blog is about blogging and SEO, I need to include a huge SEO tip. Have you heard of Google webmaster tools? When you add your site to Google web master tools, they start monitoring the time of a visitor who comes to the site and just go away after seeing the crap.

Based on 120M (120,000,000) Impressions, the Average time on the whole webpage is a whopping 33 Seconds!!!

So if they notice your site’s avg time is better and visitors are visiting with comparatively less bounce rate then you tend to rank higher.

There is a big war between the website for the sake of money and the website for the sake of help. Second is a win-win situation and the first is lose –lose situation. If you are able to get visitor attention you will ultimately gain trust, it will certainly lead to a better financial position. If your site if only for money, you’ll see that there are very rare repeat visitors (and you know repeating visitors are the essence of blogging)

So summing up all the things into points for the people who don’t have enough time to read long posts.

For the people really busy just read the points at the end of this article as a summary.

Summary:

1.       Realize what is the need of the visitor/customer/viewer.
2.       At start, make them feel that article was for them.
3.       Make it easy for the reader to navigate through the article. Make paragraphs, bold the text etc.
4.       Try to engage not interrupt. Most of the websites with complex theme structure with thousands of ads on a single page interrupt reader from reading,
5.       Make them easy to find you. How would it happen? Try to create a good title. Take 5 to 10 mins to think of a nice and catchy title.
6.       Earn trust by helping people. It is a long term strategy, all the websites just for ads and money live very short term.
7.       Use attractive images to engage the reader,
8.       Tell the reader you have more good stuff by showing related posts.

How to choose a niche for a blog

If you go through those thousands of E-books, who claim to tell you the "secrets" on how to make a money making blog, the very one thing which is missing and with which it, it’s useless to tell the rest and that’s how to find a niche for a site.

So i will be giving you this idea for free, yes free. Ok so there would be three types of niche sites.

Authority niche site
Mini authority niche site
Mini/micro niche site

I will discuss first of and will make two follow up posts for rest of the two later.

Authority niche site:
These sites are those who are on a niche but cover many niches and topics under one site name. Example would be my site Simple soup recipes; this site covers a niche which is simple soup recipes. Soup would be an authority site, (niche: A sub topic of a main topic, specifically targeting topic to specific class of people) it is covering soup recipes for those people who want it to be simple and fast.

Benefits:

Far more visitors than the other two.
People are more willing to pay.
Credibility is way more.
You can diversify your income streams.
You are not bounded to that niche only
Like my soup site, I have made many sub topics of the main sub topic, like simple tomato soup recipe. What these sites do is leave a reason for a reader to bookmark the page or visit again. People probably come to know that these sites are regularly updated so they need to visit that again and again.

Drawbacks:

Much more time to gain trust.
Much more time to get good SERPS.
Need to be regularly updated.
People tend to contact more on these sites, so you also need to keep replying.
New is not enough, i mean to say that it’s quite common to bear a year before you think you have made it.
So back to my site, it’s newly established, it needs to be regularly updated, and it would require a lot of SEO optimization.

But still i haven't told you how to choose a niche for a blog. For authority niche sites i would suggest to stick with these universal, high paying and ever green niches.

Self-help: everyone wants to "THE ONE" so making people know how to be, how to enhance, how to act good type of things work really well.

Health: 20th century brought the biggest trend to follow the health, so health could be an ever green niche. My blog soup recipes are also a part of that huge industry.

make money: if you never made money please don’t try this because there a many people who are doing this and finding nothing, if you haven’t earned, this topic doesn’t need you.

Education: By far one of my hot favorites and I will go for this topic, huge turnover and if you are able to build trust then you will feel like a king.

Solving problems/ tips: This can be a mix of anything, but people use internet to solve their problems and you also do it so think about a large opportunity.

Vehicles: After i saw how big industry that is i had to put it in this list, go through this niche in detail and observe what you are missing.

Show ads inside or within Posts of blogger

It’s really very easy to add adsense ads below post title in blogger. In order to add adsense ads below post title ,just follow the below steps.

Before adding the adsense ads to blogger templates , we need to encode our adsense ads code.If you add the adsense code without encoding then you can’t see any adsense ads below post title.

Encoding Adsense Ad Code ?

To encode adsense ads, first create an adsense ad and then visit centricle website to encode. In centricle web page , you need to paste your adsense code in the text area and then click ” Encode “. Copy the encoded code. Now your adsense code is ready to be added to blogger template.

Adding adsense ad code to blogger template

step 1 : Go to layout section of your blogger template and then navigate to EDIT HTML sub tab. There check the “Expand Widget Templates “.

step2 : Look up the following tag : <p><data:post.body/></p> and paste the encoded adsense ad code above that tag.

Then click save. That’s it Now we have added the adsense ad code below the post title in blogger blog successfully.

Customizing Adsense ads

Here are the few customization tips , which you can apply to increase your CTR.You might have seen that most of the bloggers will show more than Three posts in home page / labels page / archives page. But as per adsense TOS we can show only Three ads per page. So due to this we will see some blank spaces between post title and content , when the three adsense ads are already loaded.In order to avoid this error , we can show adsense ads only in Post pages i.e pages containing articles.

2. If you can't keep a reader reading your article till the end, you can't blog.
3. Title is the only chance to attract reader, be title conscious.
4. If you don't have at least 7 articles/posts to entertain your reader, he/she will never come back.
5. If your blog is heavily animated or graphics oriented expect 50% less traffic.
6. Homepage is the mirror of all the stuff you have.
7. Don't mess up your blog by mixing entirely different topics, if you have different articles then make different blogs.
8. Don't copy content of other sites, if it is really necessary then mention it, that you have taken it form that site.
9. Be loyal to your readers.
10. Returning visitor is actual visitor.
11. Having only 100 loyal and returning visitors is a lot better than 10000 forced visitors through PPC sites (sites who pay people to visit your site for at least 30 seconds).
12. Feeds are very important factors of blogging.
13. Create a mailing list from the beginning; mailing list is an alternate name of 'earning' in blogging. You can read a detail article of mailing list on my blog, look for it in my profile.
14. Getting Indexed in search engines is very easy, but coming in top ten is important (which is very difficult indeed)

Don't blog if you don't specialize:
Many new bloggers thinks that; 'teaching people how to make money' is the only source to earn. That is the greatest misconception, don't worry about other people, there are many other sites who teach 'how to make money' no need of yours, please don't mind but that is fact. 10% of blogs are made on this topic, this is a huge amount and if you also do it then you can be found at 110th page of search result for sure. Open up your mind people, there a many other topics to write upon, take anything you want but try to write a topic in which you specialize.
If you can't keep a reader reading your article till the end, you can't blog: This point is somehow related to first point, if you don't write the topic of your specialty, it will definitely be reflected on your blogs. Try to be short as no one has time to read crap, so be short but be descriptive.
Title is the only chance to attract reader, be title conscious: Your were visiting this site and you read the title "15 blogging tips, my life experience (must read article for bloggers)" or you may have found this article in search results and you were attracted (I hope you will also learn from this article) so first thing to attract is to have good title. So be title conscious, try to tell as much about your article as you can in your title.
If you don't have at least 7 articles/posts to entertain your reader, he/she will never come back: Basically what I am trying to say that if a reader reads your article and wants more form you, you must have something more to offer, he must have something more to remain your loyal visitor, according to my humble opinion you must have at least 7 more informative articles to offer. And you should update your blog at least once in a week and when you reach to 60 posts you can minimize it by 1 post per month or less.
If your blog is heavily animated or graphics oriented expect 50% less traffic: If you have something useful then no need to animate your blog heavily, just think are these animated graphics useful to your visitor? If yes then you are welcome to post anything and if o then avoid it.
Homepage is the mirror of all the stuff you have: If you can create a single page in 60 minutes, then I would say spend 6 days on your home page, make it as user friendly and easy to use as possible, link all your major posts to your homepage, all your pages should have a link to your home page, you can see my blog as an example. If your first five posts were most appreciated then create links and tell your visitors about "the best 5 posts of all time" on your blog.
Don't mess up your blog by mixing entirely different topics, if you have different articles then make different blogs: Don't mess up your blog with different topics, what will you say about a blog with softwares and different food information, there are many people who want to write in different topics so they choose their good traffic blog to write about other topic, this will create a bad impression, never do it.
Don't copy content of other sites, if it is really necessary then mention it, that you have taken it form that site:The reason why your blog is not indexed or if indexed then comes on last pages is you copy others content, search engine spiders are now very intelligent so be careful, if you really like something of any other blog then mention it that I have copied for this site it will not only give credit to real writer but will create a good reputation of yours and at least don't paste a copied material on homepage.
Be loyal to your readers: Readers are more intelligent then you, if you don't follow this rule then you will not get what you want. Be loyal to them if you want their sincerity, if any reader doesn't find anything good from your blog, then will he visit you again? Ask yourself. So before advertising your site you should prepare a user ready site first.
Returning visitor is actual visitor: It is really easy to make anyone visit your site for the first time, this can be done by so many ways, through PPC, linking your site with anyone, or even writing an article and submitting it to article directory, but it doesn't matter, the thing which matters I the return of that visitor again to read more. Of you gain one returning visitor daily, it will make thousands in a year.
Having only 100 loyal and returning visitors is a lot better than 10000 forced visitors through PPC sites (sites who pay people to visit your site for at least 30 seconds): Every point of this article is related with another, as I said if you gain one returning visitor daily, it will make thousands in a year, what it means is a returning visitor will not only visit your site regularly but can also prove to be a traffic source, I a visitor is a new blogger he may appreciate you by linking your site, he may tell other friends and family, there are many others reasons for incoming traffic so try to have loyal visitors instead of forced users.
Feeds are very important factors of blogging: If any visitor wants your posts to be emailed to him, so I doesn't miss any of your post then don't waste your time, give the user this opportunity. I have written an article at ezinearticles, i also want to mention a summary of that article.

I have written 15 tips or you can say 15 alerts.

I will just write these points, explanation of these points are given in the link below.

1. if your are not specialized about any topic then don't blog about that.

2. if anyone can't keep his reader reading his article to the end he have to learn this technique.

3. the most important line is title. you can spend even a week to make it perfect.

4. 1 or 2 interesting articles don't mean you have gained a loyal reader, give him a reason to come back with more interesting stuff.

5. animation and graphics are enemies of blogs. (don't forget we still have dail up users)

6. try to be specific with your topic, if you master different topics the make different blogs.

7. copying other people's stuff may lead to many difficulties, if still you want it, then alter it.

8. as readers are most important so be loyal to them.

9. according to me returning visitors are actual visitors.

10. you main page should link all the important pages.

11. to have 100 loyal visitors is a lot more better then to have 1000 forced visitors.

12. blog + feeds = complete blog.

13. mailing list is crucial to a business, try to make it from beginning.

14. getting indexed is not important, getting to top ten is important
(if any search result shows 223,000,000 results, either having 200000 or 2000000th position doesn't matter)

15. knowledge increases by asking so if you have any questions then ask me.

meta tags are still used by many major search engines and are used to help index your site, though google don't use meta tags now but yahoo and alltheweb still use this technology.

underscores or hyphens which is better in URLs

you might have seen a lot of sites with dashes and underscores, for example

1. some-other-site.com has used dashes

2. some_other_sites.com has used underscores.

The question is which one is better,

Google considers dashes or hyphens as separators on a site and underscores doesn't effect (we can not say if Google changes its policy later)

so I will take above example,

in example 1 it is some other site (as keyword or search result)

and in 2 it is someothersite.
