The game I'm specifically talking about is the Reds and Brewers in Milwaukee which was shaping up to be a pretty good game until about the eight inning. The game was tie 2-2 in the bottom of the 7th when Brewers right fielder Corey Hart belted a solo shot to give the crew a 3-2 advantage. Well in the top of the 8th inning the Reds came out firing by getting the first 2 batters on base via base hits. This brought up the pitchers spot where Reds manager Dusty Baker immediately brought in a pinch hitter to bat for the pitcher. Now as the batter was still warming up on deck the Reds announcers were saying how well this batter has done bunting in certain situations. With runners on 1st and 2nd this was a perfect time to bunt so they could advance them into scoring position where even a fly ball out would tie the game and your still looking good with one out to play with and another runner in scoring position. But NOOOOO!!!! the manager decides to let the batter swing away, and you could all guess what happened next, yup he grounded into a double play. Now instead of runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, its 2 outs with only one runner in scoring position and the next guy ends up getting out to end the inning and kill a rally that could have led to a lead in the game and possibly a win. This kind of bonehead managing is what can absolutely kill a bankroll because you know the other team is struggling so bad and they are barley hanging by a string and your manager can't even get the simple fundamentals of baseball right when the game is on the line. I will try to stay away from the Reds for a while until Mr. Baker brushes up on his baseball knowledge or stops tanking the game on purpose because he bet on the other team(Dusty your making it look too obvious!!). Now on to today's card....

MLB
4:10 pm(est)
L.A. Dodgers (+135)
Chicago Cubs (-143)

Even though they lost yesterday I'm going to stay on this money train until it starts to slow down, plus I don't really think Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster is all that great and very hittable against these Dodgers bats. L.A.'s starter Eric Stults has pitched well and the Dodgers seem to give him alot of run support on the days he pitches. With L.A. at plus money and 7-3 in their last 10 games, its not hard to see where the value is at here.

Betting on: L.A. Dodgers Moneyline(+135)(2.00 units)

Final Score:
L.A. Dodgers 0 (lost)(-2.00 units)
Chicago Cubs 7

MLB
8:10 pm(est)
San Diego (+110)
Colorado (-130)

The Padres are still one of the hottest teams in the league despite their loss last night. I like the fact that San Diego's starter Joshua Geer has pitched extremely well against the Rockies in his short career. Greer has pitched 18 innings and has allowed 4 earned runs with 13 strikeouts lifetime versus Colorado. The Rockies send Jason Hammel to the mound who was tagged for 4 earned runs in 3 innings versus the Padres back in April. I really think San Diego gets back to their winning ways tommorow and I think Vegas agrees because they set this line really low(+110).

Betting on: San Diego Moneyline(+110)(2.00 units)

Final Score:
San Diego 7 (lost)(-2.00 units)
Colorado 8

Both the Red Sox and Dodgers were victorious yesterday, even though i felt the Dodgers almost let one get away. Thank god the Cubs are struggling because they left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth with a chance to win the game but L.A. found a way to pull it out or should i say the Cubs invented another way to lose a game. When a ball club is going good I always seem to notice that they catch all the breaks when the game is on the line, but the exact opposite is true when the team is in disarray. I have read on many sports gambling forums that people are still betting on teams with losing streaks because they think that the team is due for a win. This is the most absurd thing i have ever heard, if you really stop and think about it. If a team has struggled for the last 2 weeks including last night, what makes you so sure they will be fine the next day, that they are some how due for a win. This kind of mentality is why Las Vegas has those nice big hotels and casino's and the sports books and bookies live like kings. Unless some magical fairy sprinkles fairy dust in that struggling teams water I just don't see how a team just magically turns it on, especially teams like the Washington Nationals who can't even tie their shoes right. I'm not claiming that betting this way is 100% effective because nothing is for sure in this business, but if you want to stay some what consistent with your profits I would recommend staying away from teams that are presently struggling to compete. A team like the Blue jays for example, who have lost 9 in a row will snap out of it eventually and who knows they may even make the playoffs, but for the time being you must stay away until they get hot again. And the same can be said for a handful of teams that are struggling right at this moment who are expected to be their in the end, they may very well be their come October but its May and they are struggling so you should concentrate on teams that are firing on all cylinders right now. Anyway that's all I got for today, now on to today's card....

MLB
2:20 pm(est)
L.A. Dodgers (-110)
Chicago Cubs (-110)

Not much to explain on this game, everyone who has been following along knows whats going on here. But I really like it that the Dodgers are sending one of their best pitchers in Chad Billingsley who has pitched well in the friendly confines of Wrigley field in his last 2 starts their. The Cubs will send out lefty Ted Lilly who i expect will get hammered tomorrow by this Dodgers offense(L.A. is batting .354 avg versus lefties in their last 10 games).

Betting on: L.A. Dodgers Moneyline(-110)(2.20 units)

Final Score:
L.A. Dodgers 1 (lost)(-2.20 units)
Chicago Cubs 2

MLB
8:05 pm(est)
Cincinnati (+100)
Milwaukee (-120)

The Reds are 6-4 in their last 10 games and have won 4 straight, but the real news is that they come to miller park sporting a 8-3 record in their last 11 trips against the brew crew on their home field. The reds will send out phenom Johnny Cueto who has dominated the Brewers in his 3 career starts against them, which is more than i can say for Milwaukee's starter Braden Looper who has given up his fair share of runs against the reds in his career. One other thing is that the Brewers are 4-6 in their last 10 and have lost 5 of their last 6 games(yikes!!).

Betting on: Cincinnati Moneyline(+100)(2.00 units)

Final Score:
Cincinnati 2 (lost)(-2.00 units)
Milwaukee 3

MLB
10:15 pm(est)
St. Louis (+105)
San Fransisco (-125)

The Giants maybe 5-5 in their last 10 but they have won 3 straight and are always a force at home. Tonight they will send out Matt Cain who has pitched quite well of late, and in addition the Giants have been hitting slightly better than the Cardinals in the last 10 games. Even though St. Louis is 7-3 in their last 10 and have won 2 in a row I still think all their injuries will eventually catch up to them and it may start on this west coast road trip against the stacked pitching of this San Fransisco ball club.

Betting on: San Fransisco Moneyline(-125)(2.50 units)

Final Score:
St. Louis 2
San Fransisco 4 (win)(+2.00 units)

But in this business you can never get to comfortable, because that's when the losing streaks start to kick in and before you know it you find your self chest high in quick sand and sinking too fast to recover. I really did feel that yesterday's Tigers/Royals game would be tampered with in some way, but it seemed to have played out just like the numbers suggested. The Tigers seem to have control of the AL central division for now and its safe to say that they will probably continue this pace for a little while longer as their schedule really favors them in these next few games. In the other game, the Yankees got off to a great start against Texas, they managed to score 3 quick runs in the first 2 innings and got a solid performance from headcase starter A.J. Burnett. With the Boston Redsox losing yesterday it puts the Yanks tie for first place in the AL east with the Sox and should make for an interesting June as these 2 proud franchises battle for the division lead. On a sad note, my beloved Toronto Blue Jays are an absolute mess these days. They have managed to lose 9 games in a row and have been swept 3 times in 3 different cities by 3 different teams(yikes). The Jays were hitting the cover off the ball and getting some good pitching but its has all fallen apart and its really frustrating for Jays fans like myself. Their once 3.5 game lead in the AL east has all but disappeared and now they find themselves in second place behind New York and Boston. The Jays have some soul searching to do and they need to do it in a hurry because they'll have to face the Redsox for a 3 game set starting Friday in Toronto. I'm hoping some home cooking will get them back on the right foot because they can't afford to lose to many more games to their division rivals or be left to face the ultimate consequence of falling out of the division race for good. Now on to today's card......

MLB
1:10 pm(est)
Boston (-125)
Minnesota (+105)

Now that the Sox have let the Yanks tie them in the standings by losing 2 in a row to the Twins, I think they come out with a sense of urgency and blast away at the Twins young hurler Anthony Swarzak who has very little major league experience. It also helps that Sox ace Josh Becket is taking the mound, in his last few starts he has pitched really good and is showing signs of his old dominate self, Twins bats should be silenced most of this game.

Betting on: Boston Moneyline(-125)(2.50 units)

Final Score:
Boston 3 (win)(+2.00 units)
Minnesota 1

MLB
8:05 pm(est)
L.A. Dodgers (+110)
Chicago Cubs (-130)

In my honest opinion the Cubs should not be a favorite against anyone, especially the red hot Dodgers who are smashing to town winning 8 of their last 10 and coming off a sweep of the Colorado Rockies at Coors field. In case anyone has forgot, the Cubs are 2-8 in their last 10 and if it wasn't for my Jays this team would be the worst team in the league during this week and a half time span.

Betting on: L.A. Dodgers Moneyline(+110)(2.00 units)

Final Score:
L.A. It was amazing that San Diego was down again (6-0) heading into the last few innings, and just like the day before yesterday they made a run at it only to come up just a bit short and snapping their 10 game winnings streak. The Dodgers continued to roll as the smashed the Rockies 7-1 in front of the Coors field faithful for my only win of the night. Detroit looked over matched by Kansas City's phenom pitcher Zach Grienke who made the Tigers look silly all night. And finally I want to thank the Yankees for sticking it to me and leaving over a dozen men on base, they eventually lost to Texas in a game that started late because of rain. Like I said it was a rough day but overall I'm still ahead for the year so I'm happy for the time being. Today's card is going to be tough because I feel like their will be alot of strange things going on as far as how the games will be played out. For instance today Detroit finishes their 3 game set with Kansas City and 90% of the money is on the Tigers to win. I agree with that 90% but I'm afraid Vegas will stick their hand in this and find a way for the Royals to win so they can cut up their profits and laugh all the way to the bank. The Tigers are a first place team that has won 7 of their last 10 games and have been swinging the bats with some consistency. Excluding yesterday's win, Kansas City has been a mess in their last 10 games, as they have lost 6 of their last 10 and have really struggled to score. I'm tempted to pass on this game but the Tigers are one of a hand full of teams that I would lay my money down on right now because they are playing good ball. If Detroit starts to swing at bad pitches and make mistakes on the field I will know right away the fix is on and that they are throwing the game on purpose so that Vegas can rake in all the money. Of course this is my opinion but its a coincidence that almost every time is see a huge difference in %'s like a 90%/10% situation, the 10% usually wins even if the team is awful. Well that's it for now, enjoy the rest of your day my friends, cheers!!!

MLB
2:10 pm(est)
Detroit (-114)
Kansas City (+104)

Like I said before, I'm taking a chance on the better team here but I'm not sure the powers that be will not intervene with the outcome of the game. Regardless I'm not in the business of betting my hard earned money on bad teams so I will ride these hot hitting Tigers once again.

Betting on: Detroit Moneyline(-114)(2.28 units)

Final Score:
Detroit 8 (win)(+2.00 units)
Kansas City 3

MLB
8:05 pm(est)
N.Y. Yankees(-127)
Texas (+117)

Going back to the well again with the Yanks tonight, I really feel their bats will get going and make it very difficult on the Rangers pitching staff. Yanks starter A.J. Burnett is a headcase but he should pitch a good enough game to allow the Yankees bats to do the damage. Keep in mind that the Yankees are still 7-3 in their last 10 games and have been ripping the cover off the ball before last nights loss.

Betting on: New York Moneyline(-127)(6.35 units)

Final Score:
New York 9(win)(+5.00 units)
Texas 2

But rest a sure that I am still following MLB(major league baseball) and I'm still handicapping the games when I get time. I have also come to the conclusion that if I want to try to post everyday I will have to stop typing such long explanations and stats about each game I play and just post the picks and the time's they start with a brief 1 or 2 sentence explanation about why I like the pick. This strategy should fit in nicely with my messed up schedule and give me enough time to share my thoughts about the games without taking up too much time. As far as today is concerned I have decided to go with 4 plays that I think will give me a good chance of winning but I am still very skeptical about the league in general so I will probably bet small amounts just to be safe. When I say I'm very skeptical about what is happening around the league lately, I'm talking about some of the most impossible comebacks I have seen in the history of the league. For example yesterday I bet the San Diego Padres who were at the time 9-1 in their last 10 games and had won 9 straight. Well the Arizona Diamondbacks(their opponent) jumped to a 7-1 lead and were pretty much taking it to the Padres, and then it happened. In the 8th inning the Padres scored 5 runs to cut it to 7-6 and then in their top of the ninth they scored another to tie it. At this point the Arizona fans were stunned, you should have seen their faces, it looked like the doctor just came in and told them they had a terminal illness or something(yikes). Well it didn't stop their, in the 10th inning San Diego's Chase Headley hits a 2-run shot(home run) and that basically sealed the D-backs fate. To put it in simple terms the Diamondbacks were 6 outs ways from a win, up by 6 runs and had their eyes set on tomorrows game and then it all fell apart in 3 quick innings. The moral of the story is that you never bet against a winning streak because its the equivalent of standing on some train tracks with an Amtrak on its way to iron you out like a pair of pants. Oh one last thing, when reading my posted plays the away team is always on top and the home team is always listed on the bottom, thx again and good luck in whatever you decide to play.

MLB
8:05 pm(est)
N.Y. Yankees (-118)
Texas Rangers(+110)

Not sure Texas is for real, and I don't want to go against the red hot Yanks who are 8-2 in their last 10 and swinging those bats like we all knew they would eventually. Getting the Yankees at (-118) while their playing well is a bargain so I can't pass them up at that price.

Betting on: N.Y. Yankees Moneyline(-118)(2.36 units)

Final Score:
New York 3 (lost)(-2.36 units)
Texas 7

MLB
8:10 pm(est)
Detroit Tigers (+145)
Kansas City Royals (-153)

I know most people won't agree with this play because of how dominant Royals starter Zack Grienke has been, but his teammates have gone cold offensively so this could be another wasted effort for the young right hander. Besides, Detroit is playing good ball right now(8-2 in last 10) and they have a pretty good starter of their own in Edwin Jackson who has fared well against the Royals in the past.

Betting on: Detroit Moneyline(+145)(2.00 units)

Final Score:
Detroit 1 (lost)(-2.00 units)
Kansas City 6

MLB
8:40 pm
L.A. Dodgers(+142)
Colorado Rockies (-150)

I don't think the Dodgers should be an underdog to anyone, they have the best record in the league and are currently 7-3 in their last 10 games but most importantly this team is hitting the cover off the ball even after their superstar Manny Ramirez was suspended for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. I will ride this D-train for as long as I can because it may not last much longer.

Betting on: L.A. Dodgers Moneyline(+142)(2.00 units)

Final Score:
Los Angeles 7 (win)(+2.84 units)
Colorado 1

MLB
6:40 pm
San Diego Padres(+147)
Arizona Diamondbacks(-155)

Padres have won 10 in a row, and seem to invent new ways to win ball games every night. I can't wait to see if they can get their 11th win in a row and how they go about doing it(lol). At plus money(+147) this is a no brainer, betting against them may cause the old "Dear in the headlights" syndrome.

Betting on: San Diego Moneyline(+147)(2.00 units)

Final Score:
San Diego 5 (lost)(-2.00 units)
Arizona 6

The Royals have been know for years as the garbage team of pro baseball, but this year they have changed that all around and are currently in first place in the American league central division. They have also managed to climb to the top 3 in the league in runs scored(50) in the last week, and their pitching has been outstanding so far in this young season. Today veteran Brian Bannister takes the mound against the Mariners, who he has not faced since 2007 where he pitched 20 innings giving up 11 earned runs. But like I have said before, it really doesn't matter who pitches when the whole team is playing good ball. So i think the same will hold true today with Bannister on the mound, although one thing to consider is that this right hander is actually pitching well of late. He has a 2-1 record with an impressive 1.96 ERA so far in this young season and will have one of the hottest offensive lineup in the league to back him up. Seattle will counter with their veteran lefty Jarod Washburn who actually pitched well against Kansas City last year, but those numbers can be misleading because that was a different team than the one Washburn will see today. Seattle's left hander is also sporting a nice 3-1 record with a 2.97 ERA so far this year, but i just can't see his supporting cast helping him out with much run support. On the other hand the Royals are crushing left handers, in their last 10 games the Royals are batting a whopping .342 average versus south paws which could spell doom for Washburn if he has any control issues. To sum this up I just can't pass up a great looking club at this low of a price at home(-120), so I will ride this Royals train until it starts showing signs of slowing down(Kansas City is 8-2 in their last 10 and have won 5 in a row).

Betting On: Kansas City Moneyline(-120)(3.60 units)

Final Score:
Seattle 1
Kansas City 3 (win)(+3.00 units)

MLB
7:10 pm(est)
Milwaukee(-108) at Cincinnati(+100)

I'm going back to the well here again with the red hot Brewers who are now riding a 4 game winning streak and have won 8 of their last 10. It should also be alot easier today since they face the Reds starter Micah Owings who's career numbers versus the Brew Crew have not been good. In 3 career starts he has pitched 14 innings and given up 12 earned runs and has allowed 20 hits versus this streaking Milwaukee squad. Its safe to say that Owings is not fooling anyone with his pitches and I look for more of the same here. On the other hand Brewers starter Braden Looper has faired much better against the Reds, allowing 14 earned runs in 49 innings dating back to early 2007. Granted most of those numbers were in a Cardinals uniform but he still beat them earlier this year in Milwaukee to prove it doesn't matter who he's playing for because he seems to own the Reds regardless. In that April 15th game he pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 earned while striking out 5 Reds in route to a 9-3 win. When you combined that with the Brewers sticks and their solid play on the field, you would be crazy not to jump on them at that price(-108).

Betting On: Milwaukee Moneyline(-108)(3.16 units)

Final Score:
Milwaukee 5 (lost)(-3.16 units)
Cincinnati 6

MLB
10:05 pm(est)
Toronto(+158) at L.A. Angels(-166)

The Blue Jays are the hottest offense team in the league, and somehow Vegas has made them huge underdogs for this match because of the pitching matchup. The Angels will send right hander Jered Weaver who is currently sporting a 2-1 record with a 3.13 ERA. He has pitched well versus the Jays in the past but this is not the same Toronto team he is used to facing. He will be opposed by Toronto's starter and rookie Robert Ray, who didn't pitch too bad in his first start against Baltimore where he went 5 and 2/3 innings and gave up 3 earned runs in a 5-4 Blue Jays victory. I really think the Angels will get a few runs off this young righty but I'm not sure it will be enough because I expect the Jays to come out swinging again tonight and give their rookie all the runs support he needs.

Betting On: Tor/LA Over 9.5(-120)(3.60 units)

Final Score:
Toronto 1
L.A. The only concern i have is that starting pitcher Manny Parra has not fared well against the reds in the past, but then again he probably didn't get the kind of run support and quality play that the brew crew have been showing the last few weeks. Cincinnati sends their starter Bronson Arroyo to the mound, but unlike Parra the Reds right hander has had good success against the Brewers in the past. The only problem with banking on a pitchers success is that if the rest of the team is not playing well, then it doesn't matter how well Arroyo pitches if his supporting cast is slumping. For many years i have watched quality pitchers give forth their best efforts only to lose the game because the rest of the team is playing bad. With as hot as the Brewers have been I just don't see them slowing down tonight, especially in a ballpark that has been known to be hitter friendly(the great American small park in Cincinnati lol!!)

Betting on: Milwaukee Moneyline(+104)(3.00 units)

Final Score:
Milwaukee 15 (win)(+3.12 units)
Cincinnati 3

MLB
10:05 pm(est)
Texas(+108) at Oakland(-116)

The Oakland Athletics have been a mess so far this year, they have failed to drive in the runs that this offense was expected to produce in the beginning of the season when they brought in all the offensive players they felt they needed to compete. Tonight they face the red hot Texas Rangers who come into the Coliseum tonight winners of 7 of their last 10 and have a team batting average of .294 in their last 10 contest. Texas has always given the Athletics problems in the past, but now that the Rangers have found their mojo and playing better than they have in years I just don't see how the A's can compete. The A's are on pace to lose close to 90 games this year if they don't snap out of it soon, but with a depleted pitching staff and rugged offensive numbers its likely this once proud organization will be the laughing stock in an already weak American league west division. Look for Texas to come out firing with their bats, and continue to add to their recent success against their old division rivals.

Betting on: Texas Moneyline(+108)(3.00 units)

Final Score:
Texas 3 (win)(+3.16 units)
Oakland 2

Being a Blue Jays fan it was very difficult to watch them come within one strike of winning the ball game only to see the Indians tie it up and send it to extra frames. The Jays have responded well in these situations before, so i will bank on their explosive offense to carry them for the win. Toronto will send rookie Brett Cecil who was just called up from AAA Las Vegas and is making his major league debut. Normally most handicappers would not even consider a bet on a pitcher who is unproven in the league, but I have a hunch that the Jays will come out swinging early against Indians starter Anthony Reyes, who is mediocre at best. One advantage that I do have is the fact that none of the Cleveland batters have faced young Brett Cecil so I think he should be able to keep them off balance for a few innings until they adjust to him half way through the game. On the other hand the Jays have already seen Reyes in Cleveland a few weeks back and managed to tag him for 4 earned runs in a 8-4 Blue Jays loss. In my opinion if Cecil throws strikes and limits his walks, he should get through at least 5 innings before Cleveland starts to figure him out(but if he's wild the jays may be in trouble). So giving the Jays batters 5 innings to pick apart Reyes will be more than enough time to build a nice size lead.

Betting on: Toronto Moneyline(-115)(3.45 units)

Final Score:
Cleveland 6
Toronto 10 (win)(+3.00 units)

MLB
7:05 pm(est)
Boston(+109) at New York(-117)

The Yankees will send starter Joba Chamberlain to the mound to snap a current 2 game losing streak and try to break into the win column against the Red Sox this year. He will be opposed by Boston's ace Josh Beckett who has struggled in his last 2 starts pitching 9 and 2/3 innings and giving up an alarming 15 earned runs. And to top it off one of those 2 teams were the Yankees, who went into Fenway park and laid the wood to the struggling right hander in a 16-11 loss. Chamberlain has had off field distractions of late but I don't believe they will come into play tonight against the hated Red Sox. Chamberlain's lifetime numbers against the Sox are very impressive, he has pitched 18 and 1/3 innings giving up 4 earned runs and striking out 16(yikes). Another plus for the Yankees is the fact that Boston slugger Kevin Youkilis(batting .393) has been battling back problems the last week, and rumor has it that he will probably not be in the lineup for tonight's game.

Betting on: New York Moneyline(-117)(3.51 units)

Final Score:
Boston 7
New York 3 (lost)(-3.51 units)

Tallet was tagged for 10 earned runs in his last start versus the Kansas City Royals but apart from that he has not really had to bad of a year. The Indians will send right hander Fausto Carmona to the mound who has had good success against the Jays in the past. But so far this year has really struggled to find his control and seems a bit off compared to seasons past where he has put up really good numbers. My best angle on this game is that the Jays have one of the best offenses in the league and the Indians have struggled at times to score runs this year, plus if the Jays fall behind in this game it will be a matter of time before the Indians will have to go to their bullpen where it has been a house of horrors for Cleveland this year. The Indians Pen has an ERA of 9.00 in their last 3 games, so if this is a close game down to the end its fair to say the Jays have the advantage. Overall Toronto is smoking hot and is firing on all cylinders at this point in the season so I will ride this train until it slows down.

Betting on: Toronto Moneyline(-105)(3.15 units)

Final Score:
Cleveland 9
Toronto 7 (lost) (final/12 innings)(-3.15 units)

MLB
8:10 pm(est)
Chicago(+172) at Kansas City(-180)

Zach Greinke may very well be the best pitcher in the League and he takes on a struggling White Sox team who could only manage to score 1 run last night in Texas against a really bad pitcher. Greinke is 5-0 with a 0.50 ERA and has already faced the Sox this year back on April 8th. The young hurler pitched 6 innings of shutout ball against the Sox and recorded 7 strikeouts and 3 walks, but the impressive part about it was he embarrassed the White Sox in front of their own fans in Chicago, and now he gets another shot at them, this time in Kansas City. In the last 7 days the Royals offense ranks 2nd in the league behind Philadelphia, so its safe to say the White Sox are doomed.

Betting on: Kansas City Runline(-1.5)(+105)(3.00 units)

Final Score:
Chicago 0
Kansas City 3 (win)(+3.15 units)

One key factor that hurt my play yesterday was the fact that i had no idea Albert Pujols was being given a day off which limits this St. Louis lineup. Today the Cards will start their best offensive lineup and will send Kyle Lohse to the mound who is sporting a 3-0 record this year with a 1.97 era and has done quite well against the Nationals. In his last 2 starts against them he's gone 2-0 and pitched 12 innings allowing only 1 earned run on 8 hits and 4 strikeouts. The Nats will be sending left hander John Lannan who has pitched well against the Cardinals in the past, in 2008 he went 0-2 against them but pitched 12 innings giving up 4 earned runs and 4 strikeouts, but the biggest stat that comes out is the fact that Lannan has 7 walks in those 2 games which is never a good thing against an explosive offense like this. The Cards have not hit lefties well this year, as they currently are batting .227 versus lefties and .207 versus lefties on the road but I'm just not convinced that the Cards allow another game to get away considering they have owned this Washington team in the past and will probably want to end this series on a positive note heading back to St. Louis to face the world champion Philadelphia Phillies tomorrow in front of their home crowd.

Betting on: St. Louis Moneyline(-115)(5.75 units)

Final Score:
St. Louis
Washington PPD(rain)

MLB
4:10 pm(est)
San Diego(+185) at L.A. Dodgers(-210)

I got a strange feeling the Padres avoid the sweep today, but just in case they don't I will take the (+1.5) runline to be safe. Just like last nights game the public is all over the Dodgers (-1.5) runline because of the high price on the moneyline(L.A. -210). In the past I have noticed that teams that have a high priced moneyline usually only win by 1 run, its almost as if the books purposely do this to avoid paying plus money on the favorite. As far as the match up is concerned the Dodgers will send their ace Chad Billingsley who is 4-0 with a 2.14 era so far this year. Billingsley has had good success against the Padres in the past but I just don't know if it will matter today. In my honest opinion it is very difficult to sweep a team in the big leagues, especially a division rival. Chad Gaudin will take the mound for the Fryers and he has never faced the Dodgers in his career so it should give him the advantage for the first couple time through the Dodgers batting order. On the other hand Billingsley just pitched against the Padres and beat them in San Diego a few weeks ago so the Fryers know what to expect and this should give them a slight advantage over the Dodgers today.

Betting on: San Diego Runline(+1.5)(-125)(3.75 units)

Final Score:
San Diego 3 (lost)(-3.75)
L.A. Dodgers 7

MLB
8:05 pm(est)
Chicago(-122) at Texas(+114)

Their is a chance of rain the forecast down in Arlington Texas, but it should not matter as far as offense is concerned. I'm banking on the combination of the hot Rangers bats and the awful pitching of their starter Matt Harrison to push this over the total for tonight's ESPN Sunday night game of the week. The White Sox will send lefty John Danks to the mound and that's great news to the Rangers because Texas has hit .333 versus lefties in their last 10 games. In fact the Rangers are hitting .323 against south paws this year, so they should not have any problems getting a few runs in that friendly hitters ballpark.

Betting on: Chicago/Texas over 10.5 (-105)(5.25 units)

Final Score:
Chicago 1
Texas 5 (lost)(-5.25 units)

I will try to be around a little bit more this month and hopefully pick some winners in the process. Anyway I'm banking on the Cardinals to put a smashing on the helpless Nationals who are by far the worst team in the league. St Louis is 8-2 in their last 10 games and are riding a 3 game winning streak all on the road. The Cardinals will be sending pitcher Joel Pineiro to the mound, he has a 4-0 record so far this year with a 3.76 era and has faired well against the Nationals in the past. As far as Washington is concerned, well I'm not sure where to begin, except to say they might lose 120 games this year if they keep on this torrid pace. They are currently 3-7 in their last 10 games and have dropped 2 in a row and 4 of their last 5. Their Bullpen is also shot for today so if the Cardinals jump on Nats starter Shairon Martis early, it could warrant an early call to the pen for Washington and that's when the game will get ugly if its not already ugly by then. Overall I just can't see how the Nationals compete in this one so i will lay the juice on the Cards. It will also be interesting to see if Albert Pujols will continue to use the Washington Nationals Fan's who sit in the outfield bleachers as target practice during the game, the man has already hit 2 monster home run shots the last 2 nights in that park. Every time Pujols comes up to bat it reminds me of the old bugs bunny cartoon where bugs is pitching to that big guy holding a telephone pole for a bat(the man is on fire!!).

Betting on: St. Louis(-135)(2.70 units)

Final Score:
St. Louis 1
Washington 6 (lost)(-2.70 units)

MLB
3:40 pm(est)
N.Y. Mets(+100) at Philadelphia(-108)

Quickly adding this play, my feeling is that Philly has been playing good ball of late even though they lost the first game of the series last night to the Mets. I believe they get even today and Phils starter Jamie Moyer has had some good numbers in the past versus New York.

Betting on: Philadelphia(-108)(5.40 units)

Final Score:
N.Y. Mets 5
Philadelphia 6 (win)(10 innings)(+5.00 units)

MLB
10:10 pm(est)
San Diego(+154) at L.A. Dodgers(-169)

This play is just a fade of tonight's Dodgers starter Randy Wolf and his bad numbers against the Padres in the past. Everyone is loading up on the Dodgers runline so i will fade the public and go with the San Diego runline(+1.5) at a decent price(-135). The Dodgers may very well win this game but i think the Padres keep it close.

Betting on: San Diego(+1.5)(-135)(1.35 units)

Final Score:
San Diego 1 (win)(10 innings)(+1.00 units)
L.A. I believe the wind is blowing out today but I'm not sure it will be enough since both clubs will be going up against some decent pitching. The Royals starter Gil Meche has been known to shut teams down from time to time and the same can be said for Sox starter Mark Buehrle, even though Buehrle has a bad habit of imploding in early innings. With that in mind it is still too early to determine who's pitching will be solid and who's offense will thrive in the cold weather this early in the season. I like to think the Sox are still a better team and until K.C. starts showing they are not cellar dwellers i will continue to fade them.

Betting On: Chicago Moneyline(-126)

Final Score:
Kansas City 2
Chicago 4 (win)(+1.00 units)

MLB
4:05 pm(est)
Tampa Bay(+139) at Boston(-147)

This game was postponed yesterday, so here's the write up taken from yesterdays blog post:

Welcome back everyone, this is my favorite time of year when the boys of summer get back into the swing of things. Well for my first play of the year i focus my attention to the rematch of last years American League Championship series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox. I'm riding the home team in this game, but i am very concerned about starting pitcher Josh Beckett's health(word is still out on how effective he will actually be). I believe even if he struggles the Red Sox should have enough offense to carry the team over the Rays at Fenway. Tampa's starter James Shields has not had the greatest of luck in Boston the last few years and I also believe that the Rays will actually take a step back this year. I have noticed alot of teams who are in the world series the previous year usually struggle or get off to slow starts the next year, but there have been exceptions to this theory In the past. I just don't see Tampa Bay sneaking up on anyone this year, as a matter of fact i believe they have a huge bulls eye on their chests because they are the American League Champs after all and everyone will be gunning for them. Red Sox get it done with their offense, and get some revenge on the Rays for eliminating them from post season last October.

I have changed my mind on this game and went from betting the moneyline yesterday to betting the runline instead.

Betting On: Boston Runline(-1.5)(+135)

Final Score:
Tampa Bay 3
Boston 5 (win)(+1.35 units)

MLB
7:05 pm(est)
Detroit(+101) at Toronto(-109)

I like the Jays offense in this game to score some runs off Tigers starter Edwin Jackson. I also think the Tigers should get their fair share of hits and runs, so with that being said I really like the over in this contest. I expect the Tigers to put a little more effort offensively tonight along with the Jays, plus I'm not really sure how well both pitchers will do considering they both have had command issues in the past.

Betting On: Detroit/Toronto Over 9.5(-105)

Final Score:
Detroit 4
Toronto 5 (lost)(under 9.5)(-1.05 units)

MLB
10:05 pm(est)
Oakland(+100) at L.A. Angels(-108)

I think the A's breakout tonight, they also have a rookie pitcher that has never faced the Angels before, so i give the advantage to Oakland. Not much handicapping here, just a gut feeling I have and will ride with the Athletics tonight.

Betting On: Oakland Moneyline(+100)

Final Score:
Oakland 6 (win)(+1.00 units)

Betting On: Boston Moneyline(-143)

Final Score:
Postponed(due to weather)

MLB
7:05 pm(est)
Detroit(+140) at Toronto(-148)

I will back Roy Halladay anytime he pitches, especially at home where he has been dominant in recent years. Their is a concern that the Jays offense will be weak along with the rest of the rotation, but i believe new coach Cito Gaston will find a way to get the bats going this year in Toronto. The Tigers send Justin Verlander to the mound and i just don't know if he will regain the command he had a couple of years ago. I seem to remember him struggling with walks and that hurt him in alot of his starts last year. If he starts walking the Jays hitters look for Toronto to take advantage and jump all over Verlander within the first few innings. The key here is for the Jays to give Halladay a nice 3 or 4 run cushion and+125) he usually takes care of the rest of the game. I have alot of respect for the Tigers lineup, but Roy Halladay has a funny way of making even the best lineups in the league look bad.

Betting On: Toronto Moneyline(-148)

Final Score:
Detroit 5
Toronto 12 (win)(+1.00 units)

MLB
9:05 pm(est)
Oakland(+125) at L.A. Angels(-133)

For some reason the line went down for this game, it opened at (-152) and now is down to (-133) for the home team. This is probably a good indication that the A's have a shot to win this game, especially with the Angels bullpen not being as good as in years past. Tonight I will bank on the A's with their revamped offense, i think they will do some damage against Angels starter Joe Saunders tonight. One thing to keep in mind is the fact that these teams are in the same division, so they know alot about each other, with that being said i believe the A's have the upper hand with their lineup and should get it done even without the pitching we are used to seeing from them in the past.

Betting On: Oakland Moneyline(+125)

Final Score:
Oakland 0 (lost)(-1.00 units)
L.A. They fly into Boston tonight to take on the world champs without Kevin Garnett, not to mention the Celtics have other injuries to their roster that have really slowed this team down. The Bobcats are desperately trying to stay within arms reach of the last and final playoff spot in the east, i think they will come out motivated and give the undermanned Celtics a run for their money. The underdog in this series is 12-0 ATS in the last 12 meetings between them. The Bobcats are also 11-8 ATS with no days rest and 20-15 ATS on the road this year. Charlotte has won 3 in a row both straight up and against the spread and i look for them to carry that momentum into the game tonight, I don't think they will win but i do think the cover the number.

Betting On: Charlotte(+8.5)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Charlotte 109 (2/OT)(win)(+5.00 units)
Boston 111

NBA
10:05 pm(est)
Houston(+2) at Phoenix(-2)

In my honest opinion the Suns are basically out of the playoff picture and I know they must feel the same way. I just cant see how this dejected Suns team can compete against the playoff bound Rockets tonight even if the game is being played in Phoenix. The Rockets have had 4 days rest and should be able to shut down the Suns high octane offense. Houston has won the last 3 meetings between them and the road team is 13-5 ATS in the last 18 games. I love to bet against teams that play no defense, especially when the team i bet on plays really good defense like the Rockets do. Houston's Defense has averaged around 93 point per game in their last 5 compared to Phoenix who has allowed an average of 117 points per game in that same time period. I may be wrong but i just cant see the suns winning this game, when you cant play any defense its hard to win in this league, I believe tonight we will see a good example of this.

Betting On: Houston(+2)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Houston 109(lost)(-5.50 units)
Phoenix 114

I look for the Pacers to get some revenge for a loss they suffered to the Bulls back in Chicago a few days ago. Indiana is 3-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings, and the home team is 9-4 ATS in their last 9 games between them. Even without Troy Murphy(3 point specialist) I think the Pacers have enough to take care of Chicago who may also be without John Salmons(a key weapon in bulls offense) for this game. I know alot of handicappers will criticize me for picking a team that has no hope for the playoffs(Indiana) versus a team like the Bulls who are still in the playoff picture. In my honest opinion alot of teams out of contention have mailed it in, but i don't believe the pacers are one of those teams, I also know the coach is a hard ass and will demand his team to give it everything they got until the end.

Betting On: Indiana(-2.5)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Chicago 105
Indiana 107 (lost)(-5.50 units) (lost by a (.5) a point, ouch!!)

NBA
7:05 pm(est)
Atlanta(+2) at Philadelphia(-2)

The Hawks are another team i really don't trust on the road and now they find themselves battling an angry Sixers team that is coming off back to back loses to Detroit and Charlotte. I know the Hawks did just beat the Lakers at home a few days ago, but i feel they will have a bit of a let down in this spot. The Sixers beat the Hawks in Atlanta on Jan 11 so i would expect the Hawks to come out for revenge in this game. But this is a bad spot for that kind of motivation because i think the Sixers will not lose 3 games in a row considering they are still trying to hold on to their seed in the eastern conference playoff picture. In a nutshell the Hawks are just not the same team on the road and tonight it will show in Philly as the Sixers aim to snap their 2 game losing streak.

Betting On: Philadelphia(-2)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Atlanta 85
Philadelphia 98 (win)(+5.00 units)

NBA
10:05 pm(est)
Utah(+6) at Portland(-6)

This is a gut feeling play, but I'm pretty sure the Jazz will struggle tonight since they played last night and had some trouble putting the Knicks away late in that game. Fatigue will take over here and the much younger and rested Blazers will be ready to take it to this tired Jazz team. The home team is 20-8 ATS in the last 28 meetings and the Jazz have been awful on the road this year going 14-21 SU and 16-19 ATS. The Jazz won the first 2 meetings in Utah this year and the Blazers won their last meeting in Portland on the 31st of Jan, tonight i think the Blazers win big to even the season series for the year and show Utah they are no push overs.

Betting On: Portland(-6)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Utah 104
Portland 125 (win)(+5.00 units)

Without Ginobili the spurs were not the same team and had struggled offensively, but now that he is back look for the Spurs to make a run and seriously compete for western conference supremacy. San Antonio is currently on a 3 game winning streak and are looking for a strong effort tonight against the injury depleted New Orleans Hornets. The Spurs are a battle tested team and i feel more comfortable putting my money on them even if the home teams in this series are 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings. Without Tyson Chandler(injured) the Hornets are going to have difficulty stopping San Antonio's big men in the paint, I can see the Spurs having the rebound advantage in this game. This will also lead to alot of San Antonio second chance points, so with Parker and Ginobili waiting behind the 3 point line it could get ugly real fast if those 2 get hot.

Betting On: San Antonio(-1.5)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
San Antonio 86 (Lost)(-5.50 units)
New Orleans 90

They are also 3-0 ATS when they are 7 point underdogs and will have a bit of revenge on their minds for a loss they suffered to the Bobcats in New York a few weeks back. Charlotte on the other hand has not faired well on back to back games lately, they seem to have a hard time winning without that 1 day of rest in between. Although the Bobcats will be extra motivated in attempts to gain ground for the last playoff spot in the east, i think the Knicks will give them a game and cover the number. On a side note, Knicks guard Nate Robinson is probable for tonight's game versus the Bobcats, he is due to serve a suspension for bumping into a referee the other night. Regardless of his status i still like this play, i just cant trust Charlotte not to roll over and play dead like they always do on back to back situations.

Betting On: New York(+7)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
New York 85 (lost)(-5.50 units)
Charlotte 96

Tonight they take on a struggling Wizards team who have seemed to mail in it already and have one foot on the court and the other foot on the plane to the Bahamas. The Bobcats have too much to lose and they know this is a game they need to win from start to finish. The Bobcats are currently allowing 95.8 ppg average in their last 5 games, if you compare this to the wizards 114.2 ppg avg in the same time frame, its easy to see that Charlotte should be able to win comfortably. One other key stat is that the Bobcats are 4-0 ATS versus the Wizards in their last 4 contests, this includes 2 trips to Washington. I also like the fact that the Bobcats lost their last game at home to the Indiana Pacers so they will be even more focused tonight.

Betting On: Charlotte(-6.5)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Charlotte 93 (lost)(-5.50 units)
Washington 95

NBA
8:05 pm(est)
Boston(+3.5) at Orlando(-3.5)

I really like the fact that Orlando is great at covering the spread, especially at home where they almost never lose. But the problem is they are facing the world champion Celtics and they are finally getting all their players back at the right time. The other thing that is scary if your backing the Magic tonight is the fact that Orlando beat the Celtics in Boston a few weeks ago. So its safe to say this is a great opportunity for Boston to get a little payback. I really like the Celtics chances tonight to win straight up but i will play it safe and go with 3.5 point cushion.

Betting On: Boston(+3.5)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Boston 82 (win)(+5.00 units)
Orlando 84

NBA
10:35 pm(est)
Utah(+3) at Phoenix(-3)

I like the Suns to continue their run at the Dallas Mavericks for the 8th spot in the western conference playoff race. Utah played last night and i expect them to be a little flat, plus the jazz have had their issues on the road this year and i expect that to continue tonight. Look for the Suns to jump out early and try and wear down the Jazz.

Betting On: Phoenix(-3)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Utah 114
Phoenix 118 (win)(+5.00 units)

Compare this to Villanova's 70 ppg allowed average and you can clearly see that UCLA has the clear advantage. Their are some handicappers that feel the Bruins should have lost to VCU in the first round because they won by one point and seemed to struggle in that game. Well Villanova didn't look very impressive to me, they allowed American University to dominate most of their game before coming back and winning by double digits. In my opinion I think Villanova starts off slow again and this time they will not be able to recover against this much improved Bruin defense.

Betting On:UCLA(+3)(-105)(5.25 units)

Final Score:
UCLA 69 (lost)(-5.25 units)
Villanova 89

I had a slow start in the morning games dropping my first 3 plays, but after that i did quite well and seemed to get into the flow of things. One thing that really stood out to me was the fact that alot of the heavier favorites were taken down to the wire by the smaller schools. For example #14 American University came really close to beating #3 Villanova, the Eagles had a 9 point lead in the beginning of the 2nd half only to see it slip away at the end. It will be interesting to see what heavy favorite struggles today against a weaker opponent, so without further to do i will get started.

NCAA
12:15 pm(est)
Stephen F. Austin (+11.5) at Syracuse(-11.5)

In a nutshell the Orange have to be worn out mentally after working hard to get to their conference championship game only to lose it to Louisville 76-66. I think in any other situation they would cover this spread but since they have had a rough go of it lately i think they win a close game. The Lumberjacks have played some good defense this year so it should help them stay within the number.

Betting On: Stephen F. I can see the pace of this game moving slower than a snail race so i will play the under and hope that the Grizzlies continue to struggle.

Betting On: Under 190.5(-110)(3.30 units)

Final Score:
Memphis 84
New Orleans 96 (win)(+3.00 units)

NCAAB
9:40 pm(est)
Siena(+2) at Ohio St(-2)

I think the buckeyes have a better team and I expect them to outplay this very talented Siena team. The biggest difference between these 2 teams is the ability for the Buckeyes to play defense as they allow 59.4 ppg compared to Siena allowing 72.2 ppg. Ohio State has had a much harder schedule versus much better competition, they are battle tested and should have no problem tonight covering the spread.

Betting On: Ohio State(-2)(-110)(11.00 units)

Final Score:
Siena 74
Ohio St 72 (Final/2 OT)(lost)(-11.00 units)

Back then the spread was Portland (-10) and the Pacers not only covered that night but they almost won the game losing 107-105 in a game that came down to the wire. Well Tonight the Pacers will have a chance to get a bit of revenge on their own home court. Although Indiana's Troy Murphy may not play in this game I still like my chances considering the history between these 2 teams. The Blazers are 1-9 in their last 10 contests versus the Pacers, and more importantly the Blazers are 0-10 ATS in that same time period. It seems that for whatever reason Portland seems to have problems with Indiana and i look for that trend to continue tonight. Its funny thinking back to all the good teams that have had difficulties with certain teams on their schedule. For Example the New England Patriots during their championship run always seem to find a way to lose to the Miami Dolphins at least once a year, or the Toronto Blue Jays can never beat the Texas rangers for some unknown reason or going even further back do you remember Montana and the Niners always having trouble with the L.A. Rams of the 80's. Portland is by far a much better team than Indiana, but tonight i think this mysterious trend continues to haunt the Blazers.

Betting On: Indiana(+2)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Portland 95
Indiana 85 (lost)(-5.50 units)

They have owned the Cavaliers taking 7 of the last 10 meetings and covering the spread in 8 of those games. The Cavs have looked very vulnerable of late and have played down to their competition since they went on that west coast road trip. I believe the Magic will tighten up their defense and force the Cavaliers into alot of jump shots which could be a big problem for their offense. On the other hand the Magic have great jump shooters especially from 3 point range and this could spell doom for the Cavs defensively since they will be pre-occupied with Dwight Howard on the inside. I look for a close low scoring game, but i just can't see the Cavs blowing out the Magic here so I'll take my chances with the numbers at hand.

Betting On: Orlando(+6.5)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Orlando 93 (win)(+5.00 units)
Cleveland 97

I know this is a bad Raptors team but i think the spread is too high, and besides the Raptors have owned the Bobcats in this series taking 7 of their last 10 meetings. One other alarming stat that i have noticed is that the Bobcats defense has seemed to tail off a bit, they are currently allowing an average of around 99 points per game in their last 5 contests. During their impressive winning streak their defensive average was much lower, its just something to think about when you go against a Raptors team who loves to shoot the 3 ball and are hitting around 46% in their last 5 games. Toronto is by far one of the worst disappointments in the league, but i think they will give the Bobcats a run for their money tonight.

Betting On: Toronto(+7)(-110)(3.30 units)

Final Score:
Toronto 86 (lost)(-3.30 units)
Charlotte 112

Miami is coming off an impressive win against the Boston Celtics a few nights ago, and are still fighting for position in the Eastern conference playoff race. I expect the Heat to come out and play with some motivation, In my opinion I'm sure they know deep down inside they own the Jazz and will use it their advantage. The Jazz are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 meeting against the Heat, and have dropped 4 of their last 7 ATS this past week. Dwayne Wade will play for the Heat today, he has been nursing a sore knee but will be ready to go come game time.

Betting On: Miami(+2)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Utah 129
Miami 140 (win)(3/OT)(+5.00 units)

NBA
8:35 pm(est)
New Orleans(-2) at Chicago(+2)

The New Orleans Hornets come into the United Center tonight with revenge on their minds. They lost to the Bulls back on February 4 (107-93) in New Orleans and I'm sure they have not forgotten. The Bulls have a 5 game winning streak at home, but i just feel the Hornets will be too much tonight and will out play the Bulls out of their arena tonight. The Hornets are currently 9-1 in their last 10 games and have covered the spread 5 of their last 6. The Hornets are also playing some good defense allowing an average of 90 points per game in their last 5 contests compared to the Bulls whopping 106 pts per game in the same time period. New Orleans is just too talented and will be motivated to get the revenge they feel they deserve.

Betting On: New Orleans(-2)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
New Orleans 79 (lost)(-5.50 units)
Chicago 97

I believe tonight Detroit takes out its frustrations on the struggling Raptors even without Rasheed Wallace in the line up. The Raptors have dropped 8 of their last 10 games and have lost the last 6 in a row. The Pistons have owned this team in the past, winning 7 of the last 10 meeting's straight up and against the spread. Toronto really has nothing left to play for, but the Pistons on the other hand are still trying to climb up in the Eastern conference playoff picture. I look for Detroit to get back to playing good defense and continue their dominance in this series against Toronto.

Betting On: Detroit(-1)(-110)(5.50 units)

Final Score:
Detroit 99 (OT)(win)(+5.00 units)
Toronto 95

NBA
10:35 pm(est)
Dallas(-1.5) at Golden State(+1.5)

The Dallas Mavericks have not done well in Oakland the last few years, in fact Dallas has lost 4 of their last 5 trips into the bay area. But i think tonight this will change because the Mavs are playing for their Playoff lives in the western conference. After the Mavs owner publicly criticized his teams performance they have responded by going 4-1 both straight up and ATS in their last 5 games. The Mavs are coming off a tough win in Portland the other night which caught my attention because it is very difficult to win in the Rose garden these days. I think the Mavs will be ready for the Warriors tonight and will show their old coach Don Nelson why they belong in the playoffs this year.

Betting on: Dallas(-1.5)(-105)(3.15 units)

Final Score:
Dallas 110 (lost)(-3.15 units)
Golden St 119
