I keep hearing that it will definitely last through 2011, 2012, etc. Don't believe it! The only way they can make it last that long (and, yes, I did say "they") is if we don't circumvent the current global economic system and replace it with our own, Internet-based one.<br /><br />I really don't think that construction projects, health care systems and whatever else is in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is going to save us unless it puts back to work the millions of women, minorities and baby boomers who have been laid off over the past eight years. These are people in the prime of their life who should be earning more than ever before in their lives and putting away money for education for their children and retirement for themselves. Putting massive amounts of money back into the same old, tired economic system that brought us HMO's, outsourcing, and massive devaluation of capital assets all around the world should be destroyed, not propped up.<br /><br />In order to build a system that will never collapse onto itself the way this greedy, negligent American "free market" has, we must start again from the ground up, on a foundation that is not built on racism, sexism and classism. This means not buying the argument that corporate tax cuts produce a significant rise in productivity and hiring or that there is some "invisible hand" guiding "the markets." That is just out and out propoganda from the same people who created this financial system in their image and for their benefit, the oligarchs.<br /><br />This is not an honest financial system; it is subterfuge designed to make people believe that they have some control over their lives and their destiny when in truth, they do not.
