We're Back!

Oh my.... so many things both good and bad happened in December. But things are getting back to normal and January has shaped up to be some kinda fun. Our weekend event with Donna Downey was extra special. We laughed and learned so much. Thanks Donna for all the memories!

Last Saturday was demo day and Lisa unveiled a whole new batch of classes. One finishes off this month, and there are 4 more exciting classes you will want to take. Here are pics and descriptions. Come by to see the samples in person and sign up for the class or classes of your choice!

Lisa recently participated in a calendar swap with Catherine Moore of Character Constructions and it gave her this kewl idea..... 6 times during the year she will schedule a class of 2 new calendar pages for 2013 for you to make. At the end of the year you will have a fabulous handmade calender for next year to keep or give as a wonderful gift.

We've had a number of requests for this project which we have done several times before. With each passing year we learn so much more and a tag book is such a great way to teach them. You then have a special reference book that you can add to as you travel your own art journey of life.

It's time for our annual Hero Arts Catalog Preview Party. You are invited to preview new stamps and the new catalog for 2012..... This is an event we have been enjoying ever since Hero started offering it. It's fun and you will definately want to be in on all the fun!

The new 2012 catalog will be available for purchase and you can get one for free with any $100 purchase. It's half price with an $50 purchase. All Hero merchandise will be 15% off during the party. Prepaid special orders will also receive 15% off.

DONNA DOWNEY

CLASSES

What's the next best thing to Christmas? Getting your Christmas wish that Donna Downey would come teach at My Heart's Fancy! Oh yes, that's what I wished for and it is coming true..... Donna will be teaching 4 classes here on Friday & Saturday, January 13-14! What a great way to start 2012....

I know you will want to take all 4 of them.... that's my second wish. Donna can handle large classes so if we overflow our classroom, we'll just find a larger place to have class (like the empty space next door maybe?)

Donna packs a lot of fun and technique in these classes and here is what she will be teaching for us:

SPECKLED NEST CANVAS

In this fun, whimsical collage/mixed media workshop, you will create an 8x10 piece of original art. This 2 hour workshop is suitable for beginner and experienced alike.

PAN PASTEL

From the Heart

This 2-1/2 hour workshop is also suitable for beginner and experienced artists. You will create visual depth using bold color and texture to create this 11x14 canvas mat board mixed-media art piece. If you have never used PanPastels before, here is your chance to explore and learn a new skill.

INSPIRATION JOURNAL

"Creating a Visual Diary"

This workshop will introduce you to art journaling and will both challenge and encourage you in your artistic quest. Techniques you will learn in this 3 hour workshop include painted backgrounds, "drippage", image transfer, layering, uses of different mediums & more.

INSPIRATION JOURNAL

"Layered Composition"

If you are ready for the next level in art journaling, this 5 hour indepth workshop is for you. You will learn even more about building layers using a variety of mediums and materials. You will also learn to incorporate freehand drawing and about composition and balance.

This is a short month for classes. There is so much going on with Christmas shopping and such. These classes will be perfect for December as all but one can make a fabulous gift for someone or decoration for your home. There is even a gift tag class and you know that's a big help this time of year.... so without further ado, here is the line-up!

MIRACLE of CHRISTMAS

Tuesday, November 29

This precious 5x7 canvas is being taught by guest artist, Linda Clancy. Linda brought this canvas by a couple of weeks ago and wanted to know if we thought it would make a good class. Well, we did and so here it is..... It is a front and back goodie featuring stamps from Stampendous and Printworks. At the top of this canvas (not shown in picture) is a tiny star secured by a teeny wire......

12 CHRISTMAS GIFT TAGS

This class couldn't be more timely..... Lisa had a great time using all kinds of dies and stamps. You will have so much fun with this class knowing that these tiny treasures will be so useful.

You may notice a pattern developing here..... there are 12 windows in this sweet atc display box. You will use a variety of papers and supplies to create this unique art tray. Perfect for decorating your home or as a last minute hostess gift.

Completing the theme of 12's we have this fun canvas. Oh my gosh! Did you notice that Lisa used the front of the canvas this time? This 8x10 canvas uses a stamp set from Stampington that is themed for the 12 days of Christmas. You will also use papers from Echo Park, and glitter paper as well as the new FranTage glass glitter from Stampendous to spark this sweet canvas. Also good for your home or that of someone special!

Demo Day and Thanksgiving schedule

DEMO DAY

By the time you read this Demo Day will probably already be in full swing. As you may remember you may make the fabulous Christmas Organizer when you make a donation of $5 or more to the Red Andrews Christmas Dinner. Lisa will have a wonderful class schedule for the early part of December. It should be an all around fun day for all.

We have a lot of new products in the shop right now. Along with the usual fare of Christmas images and papers we have been adding a lot of new art supplies suitable for mixed media projects.

THANKSGIVING WEEK HOURS

We will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday next week (Nov 22 & 23rd) in order to spend some much needed time with family.

HOWEVER.....

WE WILL BE OPEN THANKSGIVING DAY

FROM 4 PM TIL 8 PM

for your shopping convenience!

This would be a great time to purchase gift certificates for some special friends or come by to fill out a wish list for Santa. In any case, I look forward to seeing you over the Black Friday weekend.

DEMO DAY

MAKE-IT-TAKE-IT

FOR A CAUSE

If you have lived in Oklahoma City for any amount of time you have heard of the RED ANDREWS CHRISTMAS DINNER. Every year the McCord family puts on a Christmas dinner for needy families. They feed between 5 & 7,000 people. Santa is there to hand out toys to the kiddos. Every family leaves with a gift box of food from Feed the Children. It is a special time of blessing for those who serve and those who receive. This year we feel led to help out financially. My Heart's Fancy is donating all the supplies to make the beautiful Christmas Organizer pictured here.

For a donation of $5 or more you can make one. All proceeds will go to the Red Andrews Christmas Dinner organization. Let's show Oklahoma City we care!

Christmas Postcard Swap

We have just enough time to sponsor a Christmas Art Swap. We have decided to do postcards. The Valentine postcards were very popular and we were thinking you might enjoy using your swaps for last minute Christmas cards or as Thank You notes after Christmas. In any event, be sure you pick up a swap packet on Demo Day. Swaps are due back on December 10th which gives us enough time to photo, swap and return on........

Suzanne Carillo Stamps

We recently discovered a "new" (for us) artist that Art Gone Wild has licensed - Suzanne Carillo. Lisa used one of her stamp sets in the Blue Christmas class. Suzanne has a fun unique style that we like very much. In addition to the sets shown below we also have some of her wood mounted stamps.

We are very excited to be offering these stamps and sets. Take a look at Tammy Tutterow's blog post using Suzanne's stamps here.

Tim Holtz Winter Distress Pads

Our order of Winter Distress Pads came in and we have a few that are not on reserve. If you didn't reserve a set and want one, there are still some left. There is a limit of one set per customer until November 15th. If there are any left, we will open it up to those who want a second set. I do believe this is one of my favorites of all time. You know Lisa loves the back side of any canvas. Once again she has created a lovely project using Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490 Art Parts and Graphic 45 papers. You will treasure this lovely Christmas canvas for years to come.

I was showing Lisa this cool book I learned to make from a Teesha Moore art journal video and she remarked that in a smaller size it would make a perfect memory project for Thanksgiving. Make this really sweet Blessing Book and have your family fill it with things they are thankful for on Thanksgiving Day. It's the perfect way to remember your special Thanksgiving time with family and friends.

We had a great time Saturday during Demo Day. Lisa created a wonderful chipboard door hanger using the new Ranger Perfect Pearl Mists, our new Crafter's Workshop templates........

Really love those Perfect Pearl Mists. They are so different. At first I thought why should we get them, we have Glimmer Mists..... but they are really different and so pretty. Glimmer Mists are a gorgeous mix of color and shimmer but Perfect Pearl Mists give you colored shimmer in a spray. It is so sparkly! If you haven't seen them, you will just have to come by to see them for yourselves. With 24 wonderful colors you will have no trouble finding one you can't live without!

We just started carrying Crafter's Workshop templates and may I just say that I am having a blast playing with them. Lisa and I spent a morning a couple of weeks ago applying inks, paints and sprays with the templates to create some exciting backgrounds. I think she will have a class or two using them in the not to distant future.

Lisa found the Suzanne Carillo stamp sets and we have had them on order for what seems like an eon of Sundays. They finally arrived and while we didn't have time to make up any of our own samples for Demo Day, we borrowed a few from Art Gone Wild to show you how you can use them. Lisa will be using the set pictured here in one of her Christmas card classes next month. They are really exciting and you will have great fun with them.

The class schedule should be up late Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning.

Love Memory Box cards and dies as much as we do? We just received the Cardstock and Project of the Month. Take a look at these two fabulous cards you can make with them!

Project of the month uses 2 dies: the Catalina Wreath and the Nutty Acorn. The cardstock is a lovely textured green soire called Celery. A perfect card for fall!

Cardstock of the month uses 2 dies: the Perched Reedbird and Woodland Branch. The stamp is the Vintage Notes and the layered pattern paper is the Pool distressed dots. Cardstock of the month is a limited edition cardstock and this stock is a lovely "eucalyptus" color. This card is a great all occasion card.

Experiments in Beeswax

October 5th

This 3 hour workshop taught by Sherry Schoenfeldt of Studio Pashnada is designed to teach you how to apply beeswax and use it with mixed medium art projects. You will create a 4x8 canvas (yours will not look like the one above). It is fun and exciting.

Memories Photo Box

This wonderful project was created a few years ago and has been in the shop as an example of what you can do with 7 gypsies 4x6 photo tray. A number of new customers have requested that we teach it again and we think it is worthy of a return engagement. Some of the embellishments are no longer available, so yours will have an updated look when you are finished.

Mini Christmas Boxes

Is this not the cutest project in the world? Of course it is! Cute Christmas decoration made using Graphic 45's new Christmas Emporium paper and a variety of embellishments. It will bring you a lot of J-O-Y!

You know Lisa..... she is all about canvases and this one is fabulous! It's different from anything she has ever done and you will learn some exciting new ways to create a stunning piece of art. You will use a lots of new products from 7 Gypsies, Studio Paint, tissue and rub-ons!

More Fun With Beeswax

Oct 22

This 3 hour workshop taught by Sherry Schoenfeldt of Studio Pashnada is a follow up to Experiments in Beeswax which you must take before you attempt this one. You will learn even more techniques for using beeswax to create texture how beeswax interacts with a number of other art supplies. Once again, you will not leave with art that looks anything like the samples you will see.

Make-It-Take-It - Demo Day

DEMO DAY FUN

I really had some fun on Demo Day. It was not quite the same without Lisa. She had been battling a respiratory virus which turned into a contagious infection so she gracefully bowed out. That was really hard for me cuz I know how much fun you have with her and I am petrified that I won't do a good job..... And on top of that, the supplies she ordered didn't come in.... EEK! Now What!?!

Our friend Mary found a really cute (and easy) card that was designed by Claudine Helmuth for Ranger that I could actually demo for everyone! And we actually had all of the product for it already in stock..... Thanks so much Mary! I could not have done it without such a great idea! This is the card we made.....

And speaking of Studio Paints..... You are gonna love how nice they are to use. Ranger has made a really nice product here and the colors mix cleanly with no muddying. There are 15 wonderful colors and using the Color Mixing Chart you can create 51 other colors. Very cool! The chart is a PDF file (you just need Adobe reader to view it) so it is easy to print for reference. And here is a video Claudine did showing you how to mix those colors.....

Demo Day

Can it really be that time again? Oh yeah.... it is. Tomorrow (or is it today?..... depends on when you read this post) is Demo Day. Love it.... it is so much fun. You may or may not know that Lisa has really been sick so guess what?! I'll be conducting the demo tomorrow. Be kind..... I'm a novice. Oh yes, and our friend Carol will be babysitting the register. Be extra kind. We'd like to keep her as a friend.

Graphic 45 Collections

New Graphic 45 Collections

We recently received the newest Graphic 45 collections and may I say that they are really fabulous. We (along with everyone else in the country) have been waiting for them as patiently as possible. Take a look.....

An ABC Primer is true to Graphic 45's vintage style and features beautiful graphics of children and school motifs. We have 8x8 paper pads, rubber stamp sets, chipboard punch-puts & a few of the 12x12 papers.

The Christmas Emporium is stunning. We thought the past Christmas collection was beautiful, but I think they have outdone themselves with this one. We have 8x8 paper pads, rubber stamp sets, chipboard punch-outs and several of the 12x12 papers.

I worked and worked til I figured how to make the Spellbinder catalog picture on the sidebar into a link. You can now click on the catalog and it will redirect you to the flip catalog. HALLOWEEN TAG SWAP

If you picked up a Halloween Tag Swap bag at our last demo, the deadline for turning them in is Saturday at 5pm. If you can see that you won't quite make it, but are oh-so close, give me a call and I'll see what I can do. You will be able to pick up your traded swaps on Saturday, the 17th which is Demo Day.

DEMO DAY

MAKE-IT-TAKE-IT

I thought I would share the Demo Day Make-it-Take-it for those of you who were unable to make it. As you can see, it was a pretty cool card for Halloween. Change the greeting on the front and it could be a great howdy/birthday card for a gentleman friend, son or husband.

The Supplies

Orange Memory Box card/envelopes

Manila Card Stock

Patterned paper by Authentique

Owl/clock stamp by LaBlanche

Black Onyx Versafine ink pad

Spiced Marmalade Distress ink pad (not shown)

Clear embossing powder

Distress Stains: Antique Linen, Spiced Marmalade, and Fired Brick

Halloween Greeting Stamp (not shown)

Directions:

Ink Owl/clock stamp and greeting stamp in Black Onyx Versafine. Stamp on Manila cardstock and emboss with clear embossing powder.
Apply Antique Linen Distress Stain directly to paper over the owl.
Apply Spiced Marmalade Distress Stain directly to paper over the rest of the design being careful to avoid the owl.
Apply Fired Brick Distress Stain directly to paper avoiding clock & owl.
Distress outer edges of orange card with Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink Pad.
Cut patterned paper smaller than the card and glue to the card.
Cut out stamped/inked owl design and glue on top of the patterned paper.
Repeat steps 6 & 7 with greeting and glue to lower right corner area of the card.

September 2011 Class Schedule

What a month! Hopefully things are back to normal for me and Lisa. Life happens when you least expect it. Anyway we had a great Demo Day on Saturday and Lisa has put together a great set of classes for you. Lisa received the cutest card for her birthday from one of our favorite customers. She also gave her the directions so you know Lisa..... Grunge is one of her favorite themes and this is the result. You will be using Spellbinder dies, Artful Illusions Stamps and Tim Holtz embellishments. Sure to be a hit with your "grungy" friends or the card you need for your man friend.

SUMMER CLASS FUN

My Heart's Fancy

Many of you were privileged to be able to take the classes that Joni of Mrs. O'Leary's and Dave of Memory Box taught. We all had a blast. The memories will last a long time. Joni and Dave are deep wells of information and taught us so many exciting things.

When Joni was here she brought a grab bag of goodies to give away. After everything quieted down on Sunday night, we put everyone's name in a bucket a drew for the lucky winner...... who is.....

And we had such a great time with Dave. His whole family is traveling with him. They help him unload and set up. His lovely wife and co-owner, Monica, mans the Gypsy Van filled with extra product so you don't run out of stamps, paper or dies to sell. The kids, Emma and Cooper, are ever so patient, helping unload and load. They turn Dave loose, head out for adventure and check back at regular intervals. They are a fine-tuned team. And for those of you who didn't get to see the whole family...... TaDa..... here they are

So to Joni & the Dave Brethauer family..... we salute you and thank you for two wonderful, fun-filled weekend adventures in art!

ARTFUL ILLUSIONS

WORKSHOP WEEKEND

This was one of the most amazing weekends we have ever enjoyed here at the shop! Many thanks to Joni Russell of Mrs. O'Leary's in Wichita Kansas. Many of you have been to Joni's fine establishment. Lisa has been a big fan for many years and recently introduced me and a number of you to her wonderful line of rubber stamps called Artful Illusions. We were so honored this weekend to have Joni teach 4 amazing classes. Joni was incredible. She held nothing back. She laughed and she held your hand and helped you when you couldn't quite get it right. We all loved her so much and she loved us right back. She is generous and patient beyond belief. We hope we can get her back for another round of classes when her schedule allows. And if you couldn't make it this time, we hope you will next time. Here's a little bit of what we did.....

Copper Bracelet Class

This was one intense class. You cannot begin to imagine how much information was given in this class. Beautiful works of art were created. I was overwhelmed and glad to have watched it twice.

Hang-Ups Mobile

This class was a lot of fun. The tags were incredible, the mobile exciting. We were glad we chose to have this project taught.

The Nature Box & Tags

I was so busy I forgot to take pictures of these two classes. Lisa and I got to help. Course, Joni was the star and she made everything so much fun, even learning a few things from us about "distressing" & "dressing-up" the box!

Trunk Show

OMG..... I had no idea or I woulda shouted it from every rooftop I coulda found. Joni brought darn near every rubber stamp she makes. Samples were everywhere. I know a lot of you missed out on this incredible opportunity. Maybe we can get her to stop on her way back from teaching somewhere south so you can shop this incredible collection.

AUGUST 2011

We had a wonderful Demo Day on Saturday and Lisa put out an amazing group of classes for August. It's hot outside but these classes are even hotter! If you couldn't make it by Saturday, be sure to stop by this week and sign up for the classes of your choice.....

HALLOWEENIE CARDS - August 2, 4 & 5

Halloween and Fall images are finally starting to come in and Lisa has created a fun group of cards using them as well as some favorite stamps you wouldn't think of as Halloween. You will get to use lots of Memory Box dies and stamps in this class.

LaBLANCHE CREATIONS - Aug 9 & 12

Using stamps from our new LaBlanche collection of stamps from Germany, you will create 4 sweet and elegant cards. LaBlanche stamps look a little strange on their white foam mounts, but you will love how nicely the detail shows when you use these silicone stamps.

METAL COLLAGE PLAQUE - Aug 16 & 19

Using book board, die cut pieces, metal tape & tools, alcohol inks and more, you will create this incredibly artsy plaque that will make a great addition to your collection or the collection of a friend (if you can give it up!) Skill level? none needed!

DEMO DAY - SATURDAY AUGUST 20

Always fun, always FREE. The FREE Make-it-Take-it is always fun and Lisa's new class schedule for September will be ready for you to choose your favorite classes. Be sure you attend. We always have a load of new stuff for you to see!

COLLAGE ART TAGS - AUG 23, 25 & 26

Lisa always makes incredible tags..... I love them so much. If I had taken every tag class she has taught I would have the best collection in the whole world and I would frame them and fill an entire wall with them. That being said, you will love this new collection. Two of them are made using the new Dina Wakely collection of collage stamps from Stampington. Very cool!

HALLOWEEN CONFIGURATION - AUG 30 & SEPT 1

Last, but certainly not least is this really cool shadow box. If you've ever wondered what to do with those Tim Holtz Configuration Boxes..... now you know! This is a fun spooky project that will make a wonderful addition to your Halloween decorating scheme.

Great line-up. Come by to sign up. Remember to hold your spot you must prepay. Refunds available with 48 hour notice if you find you cannot attend class. Remember to bring your basic kit to class and if you are new to our classes, we will be happy to help you figure out what you need to include.
