I'm back + Remove Feat.from Artist Tag in MusicBrainz

2012-12-24T01:08:00.001-08:00

Hey guys, so I was really busy and didn't have any time at all to post on this blog. But I will try to post more regularly again. And the first thing I will post about is an issue that has annoyed me since quite some time. I don't know when it happened but it seems that someone proposed changing the style of the ID3-Tags of MusicBrainz: http://forums.musicbrainz.org/viewtopic.php?id=1709 (really great idea bro.....not). Whatever he thinks makes this a good idea, I don't give a fuck. Moving the featuring Artists to the normal Artist name is bullshit because it fucks things up: Every music player I've used displays this tag so you have this "feat." bullshit in the artist name everywhere (don't tell me I can change what field the player displays, I don't care). And along with this comes the main reason that this is fucking annoying: it fucks everything up on last.fm because this tag field is submitted to last.fm as the artist name. Last.fm alone has enough problems with artist names (same names for different artists= same page). I've been using the musicbrainz picard tagger for year and never had problems (except for missing/wrong tags but these can be edited) but now I seriously thought about using a different tagger. Until I found this:http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/picard_plugins There is a plugin that moves the feat. tags to the title just like it used to be (Thanks Lukáš Lalinský, Michael Wiencek, you guys rock!). And you don't even have to install the plugin, just activate it in the preferences of picard and voila: you have the good old tag style again. I couldn't care less if the new style is cleaner or that using ID3 1.x is old. I just want my last.fm to have clean tags.

Roman Sidorov - Discography

2012-03-30T00:02:00.002-07:00

Roman Sidorov was a musician from Russia with a lot of different projects. I just discovered some of his stuff on youtube recently, but had a hard time finding links to all of his stuff, so I'm sharing it here now.
He's mostly known for a dark ambient project called "Staruha Mha"(rus. "Старуха Мха"), but I was more interested in his other stuff, which is mostly a mix of very slow guitar riffs with a lot of reverb, kind of distant vocals and a bit of minimalistic ambient thrown into the mix. You can get an impression of it yourself here:

The above video is from Roman's project "Sedative" and yeah it is fucking amazing. He has two other projects which are very similar to this one, called "Fatal" and "Der Golem".
Sadly Sidorov killed himself in 2003, but the music he left behind is amazing...
(Of course Sidorov didn't record these all alone, but I don't know a lot about the other band members).

Earl Sweatshirt is back

2012-02-09T05:44:00.000-08:00

Guess what? Big lips is finally back. If you're a fan of rap collective odd future, you'll know I'm talking about Earl Sweatshirt:

He's suddenly back from samoa and it seems he's not so tight with the other OF guys. It seems that his mother really has him under control, because he has a different management than the other OF guys and it seems like they really have a big influence on everything he's doing rap wise.
Check out a new track called "Home" here: http://terttlefer.com/
it seems to be some kind of social community or something especially for earl.
He also has a twitter now: https://twitter.com/earlxsweat
I'll definitely keep an eye on this, Earl's music always fascinated me, but I hope he doesn't get changed by his management or his mother, they could fuck things up pretty good. "Home" sounds ok but also boring at the same time. there's a lot of hype about his comeback, I hope he can somehow live up to it.

Burzum - Umskiptar

2012-01-24T09:19:00.000-08:00

Varg Vikernes has been a very productive man since he was released from prison in 2009. He released 2 Albums of new material and one with re-recorded songs. Most people had very high expectations for "Belus ", the first album he released after prison. So most of them were disappointed, because they essentially expected it to be similar to the classic Burzum material. Varg has his own mind though, so he kept evolving his style, using a lot more clear vocals and better production. "Fallen" was the next chapter, released roughly a year after "Belus" and it was received a lot better because people got used to the new folk-influenced Burzum. Now we're here again, nearly one year after "Belus " and Varg has prepared his next album called "Umskiptar".

I'm really curious about how Burzum's sound changed, Varg hasn't disappointed me with anything yet, so I think it will be a great album again. Here's the tracklist:
1. "Blóðstokkinn"
2. "Jóln"
3. "Alfadanz"
4. "Hit helga Tré"
5. "Æra"
6. "Heiðr"
7. "Valgaldr"
8. "Galgviðr"
9. "Surtr Sunnan"
10. "Gullaldr"
11. "Níðhöggr"

Release Date: May 29, 2012
Leak status: The whole thing leaked yesterday. Very early though. So please make sure you buy this, to support the band.

Alcest - Les Voyages De L'Ame

2011-12-21T08:39:00.000-08:00

The kind of goofy looking guy you see above is Neige. He may be looking a bit womanly but he is a great musician. In his main project Alcest, he mixes black metal with post-rock and shoegaze. The amount of black metal has been getting less and less since the start of the project, so it sounds more like a shoegaze/post-rock mix right now.
Alcest is about to release his third full-length called "Les Voyages De L'Ame". I didn't like the last album "Écailles de Lune" that much because it felt like Neige is using the same formula over and over in his music. That's why it got a bit boring to me. But I'm kind of looking forward to this one, there's a sample track out which is pretty good:

Alcest - Autre Temps

I hope there will be more black metal elements on the album again, because I kind of miss that. The guitar work on this track is very good though. Neige has a good sense for catchy melodies.

Release date: January 6th
Leak Status: Leaked on the 3rd of January.

Drudkh - Eternal Turn of the Wheel

2011-12-15T23:32:00.000-08:00

Drudkh is black metal band that has been around for 8 years now and they're about to release their 9th album called "Eternal Turn of the Wheel". If you like Drudkh, you like most of their albums, because most of them have a similar basis: heavy epic walls of guitar, great drumming and unique vocals. From album to album they've always tried to change their formula up a bit though. Especially on their last full-length "Handful of Stars", which was more post rock than black metal and got a lot of "sellout" and "fuck this alcest shit" comments even from the die hard fans. The members of Drudkh probably realized they went too far on that one, so they are now going back to their roots on the new album. So I know it's going to be good old Drudkh, but I also know it will be nothing life-changing. But for some bands it seems to be really better if they stick to their roots than trying to invent something new. I like "Handful of Stars" but yeah it is definitely not as strong as standard Drudkh material. And there's still the other project with Alcest mainman Neige called "Old Silver Key" if you're into the more post-rocky stuff.
I'm really looking forward to this one, check out the details below:

Tracklist:

Eternal Circle
Breath of Cold Black Soil
When Gods Leave Their Emerald Halls
Farewell to Autumn's Sorrowful Birds
Night Woven of Snow, Winds and Grey-Haired Star

Release date: Feb 24, 2012

Leak status: Whole thing leaked, Feb 20th

KoRn - The Path Of Totality

2011-10-27T08:40:00.000-07:00

As you might already know KoRn was one of my favorite bands back then when I was in school. I still like to listen to some of their albums every now and then but I mostly grew out of them or something :D
But I'm still following what they're up to and I guess now they're doing something really exciting again: a dubstep nu-metal hybrid album.
I never really got into dubstep, so I don't know much about that but KoRn worked with a lot of good dubstep producers on this new project and the available tracks sound really great.

The album is called "The Path Of Totality" and this is the tracklist:
1. Chaos Lives In Everything - 4:02
2. Kill Mercy Within - 3:16
3. My Wall - 3:42
4. Narcissistic Cannibal - 3:14
5. Illuminati - 2:58
6. Burn the Obidient - 5:05
7. Sanctuary - 4:23
8. Let's Go - 3:10
9. Get Up! - 3:42
10. Way Too Far - 8:15
11. Bleeding Out - 3:05
Total: 44:52

I hope for KoRn this will be as successful as their debut where they created a totally new genre and revived rock/metal music. I think this will be selling good because a lot of kids are into dubstep nowadays. We'll see.
Here are some of the available tracks so far:
KoRn feat. Skrillex - Get Up (official video):

KoRn - Narcissistic Cannibal:

Both of these songs are really memorable, I really like them.
Release date: December 6, 2011
Leak status: Whole thing leaked today (28.11.11)

Young Nigga - Expensive Pasta

2011-09-29T02:38:00.000-07:00

This guy really loves expensive pasta:

And his name is "Young Nigga". He's the new odd future member and just released his single "Come Threw Looking Clean" which already is a modern hip hop classic about explosions, diamonds, bitches and coming threw looking clean of course. The beat is produced by Tyler, the Creator and sounds really raw. I wouldn't try to offer this guy some cheap pasta if I were you.
Some people really believe this shit is serious but it's obvious as fuck that this is Tyler dressed up and pissing all over the current rap scene. I really hope there will be an album, because this should be quite funny.
Check out the single over here: Young Nigga - Come Threw Looking Clean

Release date: None yet.
Leak Status: One song released.

Justin Bieber - Under the Mistletoe

2011-09-28T03:18:00.000-07:00

Kind of have mention this guy at least once right :D ?

I just checked the sales numbers of his debut "My World 2.0" and was pleasantly surprised: He didn't sell as many of them as I thought. It only has 2x Platinum in the US. Lil Wayne comes out and sells almost a million or more copies in the first week, but somehow I thought that Justin Bieber has managed to pull more money out of people's pockets.

Now to something else: his "music". It's not really my style so I don't like it whatsoever, but I'm also not a 12 year old girl. I understand there's a market for this stuff and it's very profitable too so I don't hate Justin for milking this cow like anyone would do in his position.
But now he's really going in for the big one: a christmas album. I actually expect him to surpass Lil Wayne's sales numbers with this one, but the profit will go to charity which is a good thing, so just turn your radio and youtube off until christmas is over and you won't have to deal with his babylike voice. I don't like christmas anyway so I'm good at avoiding shit like this :D

Release date: None so far, but should be before christmas(who would have thunk that?)
Leak Status: Nothing Yet

Lou Reed & Metallica - Lulu

2011-09-21T03:00:00.000-07:00

I'm finally back guys, sorry for the absence...

This is the cover for the collaboration album of Lou Reed & Metallica called "Lulu". The first time I heard about this I was wondering how this would sound. Both kind of are legends in their own musical field, but does their music really fit together?
Let's face it Metallica are in a bit of a crisis right now: Death Magnetic did pretty good commercially but it's nothing exciting honestly. It just can't compete with classic Metallica and let's not talk about that pile of shit called St. Anger. So maybe now they are out for some experimentation instead of rehashing the past halfassedly(is that a word? you know what I mean anyway). This may end in a catastrophe, but at least they are trying.
Lou Reed doesn't really have to lose anything, he has been making music for such a long time and has done a lot of weird stuff (even a noise album, just to fuck with your brain). So either way for Lou Reed this is nothing more than fun I guess.
Thank god, they just released a sample of the first single called "The View". check it out first and then read my thoughts on it (trollface.jpg, (not really though(yeah parenthesis inside a parenthesis(problem with that?)))):

Let's be honest ok? Lou Reed sounds like a half asleep Johnny Cash on crack while Metallica play riffs in the background that sound like they were actually generated by cheap music program written by a 4-year old. Either Lou Reed is joking or he just wants to fuck with Metallica. At the end when James starts singing the song picks up a bit of speed and gets better, but the beginning is pure shit.
Right now I really have no hopes for this...but let's wait for a full song, it can't get worse right?
Here's the tracklist for "Lulu":
01. Brandenburg Gate (4:19)
02. The View (5:17)
03. Pumping Blood (7:24)
04. Mistress Dread (6:52)
05. Iced Honey (4:36)
06. Cheat On Me (11:26)
07. Frustration (8:33)
08. Little Dog (8:01)
09. Dragon (11:08)
10. Junior Dad (19:28)

Release Date: October 31st
Leak Status: Entire album out.

If you're already sure you want to buy this, do it here:

Here's one collab where they actually sound good, so hope is not lost yet:

Why there are no new posts...

2011-09-08T08:18:00.001-07:00

Hey guys,
I'm really sorry but I have a lot of things on my schedule right now. Won't have any time to post new stuff until the week after the next one. I'm still updating some of the post though.

See ya soon!

Mellowhype - 67

2011-08-17T03:09:00.000-07:00

Just a short update: Check out a new Mellowhype song off their "Numbers" album, that should be out in 2012. I don't want to wait this long goddamn it.
Again great beat by Left Brain and amazing rapping by Hodgy.

The Weeknd - House Of Balloons

2011-08-16T02:29:00.000-07:00

I know things have been kind of slow lately, too be honest there is not much to post about right now. One thing I and it seems you too can't wait for is the new M83, but there have been no news since my last post. I will keep updating it though.
So here's something different, an album I've been listening to a lot in the last couple of weeks. A lot of you probably won't like it, but I don't care :D

The Weeknd is R&B singer Abel Tesfaye(the fellow pictured above) and "House Of Balloons" is his first release, a mixtape you can download for free here.
I'm not a big R&B fan, I don't like it if someone is whining all the way through a song, trying to be "really" expressive. Somehow though I like how this guy is doing it, he has some pretty good and even funny lyrics, he doesn't try to pack everything he says into beautiful words, he doesn't have a problem with the word "fuck" for example or singing about betraying one's girlfriend. He's just honest and it comes a long way in a music industry where everything is kind of recycled melodies with lyrics that just have to sound good, no meaning behind it. The shit that comes to my mind first is stuff like the Black Eyed Peas. It's beyond me how so many people really buy into this bullshit excuse for music just to make some quick bucks.
But happily "House Of Balloons" is different.

Yes, I also had to get used to his way of singing but a lot of things on this mixtape made it easier for me and made me come back to this. The production is one of those things. Every song is really right to the gut, some are just so epic you can't help yourself but get lost in the music and eventually in the beautiful voice of this guy. This guy can sing, forget all the autotune infested scheiss you here in almost every song now ("808's and Heartbreak" rules though, you just have to use autotune in the right way, if you can't sing don't try to hide it though). I like how the only two songs from Beach House, that I really love are sampled here and generally the production is better than on most of the mainstream albums nowadays and don't forget that this is free to download for everyone.
I'm sure if you give this one a chance it will stay with you for some time. I hope this guy kicks some serious butts and won't become corrupted by the mainstream. Make music that is personal to you, that you would like to listen to and it's gonna be fine. It seems that this mixtape is part of a trilogy, the other releases are called "Thursday" and "Echoes Of Silence". I can't wait for those!
Here's a sample track for you(one of my favorites off the mixtape):
The Weeknd - Wicked Games:

Old Silver Key - Tales Of Wanderings

2011-08-05T01:21:00.000-07:00

Now for something a bit different: Old Silver Key is kind of an all-star black metal band composed of the legendary Drudkh members(on the instruments) and Alcest/Amesoeurs main man Neige(vocals). A lot of people were upset by the last Drudkh album, because apparently it has too much of a post rock influence. It seems like they are continuing the sound on this project now and the next Drudkh will be back to the roots kick ass stuff again.
The debut album of Old Silver Key called "Tales Of Wanderings" will be out on Season of Mist on September 16 and has the following tracklist:

1. What Once Was And Will Never Happen Again
2. November Nights Insomnia
3. Cold Spring
4. Nineteen Winters Far Away From Home
5. Star Catcher
6. Burnt Letters
7. About Which An Old House Dreams

There is no leak yet, but my prediction is it will leak around two weeks before the release date. One track is available already though, check out "Burnt Letters" below:

Yeah, it's not much of surprise but it's a very solid track. I really like the music and the vocals are ok too. Maybe they could be better, but they fit to the music so I'm not gonna complain. Neige's vocals are often kind of a hit-and-miss. I'm having great hopes for this though.

Leak Status: Leaked!

Drake - Headlines

2011-08-01T02:06:00.000-07:00

Here we go again with something new by Drake and this track really seems to be the first single from "Take Care". After "Dreams Money Can Buy" and "Marvin's Room" which were more or less quite depressing and slow songs, we get this more upbeat tune which really reminds of Drake's first album.
It's not bad but I think the depressed Drake is a lot more intense. His lyrics are pretty good though and he doesn't fail to deliver on this track either.
Download link here: Drake - Headlines (thanks pitchfork)

Classics: The Postal Service - Give Up

2011-07-27T05:25:00.000-07:00

The Postal Service doesn't just deliver your packages it's also a collaboration between Ben Gibbard(Death Cab For Cutie fag) and Jim Tamborello(Dntel, repairs fucked up teeth(don't mind my stupid jokes(also don't mind comments inside brackets))).
I'm not really big fan of their individual projects, but this one is really amazing. The music is very electronic but at the same time poppy and really catchy. And the vocals just fit perfectly. Some songs have an epic built and epic lyrics, you'll find yourself getting excited and feeling with the singer. The lyrics are mostly about love but not in that corny way, very well written and even funny at times.
I find myself listening to this a lot, also because of the memorable melodies.
Check out some tracks below:
"We will become silhouettes":

"Such Great Heights":

M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

2011-07-20T01:24:00.000-07:00

We finally have some more details on the forthcoming M83 album and a new single for download! The album's name is "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" and the release date is the 18th of October. And as I already posted, it will be a double album which means more M83 which means <3 (yes, I did that cheesy less than three bullshit).
And finally you can listen to the first single of the album, we just got teased with the "Echoes" video before and now we have a full song.

Download it here: M83 - Midnight City
And damn it is a great song. It kind has this late 80s, early 90s feel to it, especially at the end with the saxophone solo. This is good music, you better download and listen, no excuse (except if you're deaf, then I'm sorry, but you shouldn't be reading music blogs then :D ).
I will update this post as soon as more is available...so check back. If you don't have their old stuff yet, check out my store at the top of the page.

Kanye West and Jay-Z - Watch The Throne

2011-07-18T01:04:00.000-07:00

I'm back. wrote some exams and shit. They were good mostly :D
The shiny thing you see above is actually the cover to one of the most anticipated collaboration albums ever: Kanye's and Jay-Z's "Watch The Throne".
I really love both of these guys and the Jay-Z songs that Kanye produced always went on to become great hits. I think this will become an instant classic. It's always interesting to see what Kanye is up to next and Jay-Z is a legend. The production probably will be epic as fuck, just check out the first single H.A.M. (which only will be on the deluxe version of the album though):
Kanye West and Jay-Z - H.A.M.
I was hoping Kanye would produce most of the tracks himself, but e.g. H.A.M. was produced by Lex Luger. It's still a great song though.
The album is supposed to drop on August 2nd, so just two more weeks.
Here is the tracklist:
01 No Church in the Wild (ft. Frank Ocean)
02 Lift Off (ft. Beyoncé)
03 Niggas in Paris
04 Otis (ft. Otis Redding)
05 Gotta Have It
06 New Day
07 Prime Time
08 Who Gon Stop Me
09 Murder to Excellence
10 Welcome to the Jungle
11 Sweet Baby Jesus (ft. Frank Ocean)
12 Why I Love You (ft. Mr Hudson)
Bonus tracks:
13 Illest Motherfucker Alive
14 H*A*M
15 That’s My Bitch
16 The Joy (ft. Curtis Mayfield)

I'm especially looking forward to tracks featuring Odd Future R'n'B mastermind Frank Ocean.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - I'm With You

2011-07-01T08:16:00.000-07:00

Well, I'm not a big Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, but I think they sometimes have their great moments where they are able to produce really great songs. "Scar Tissue", "Under The Bridge", "Don't Stop" etc. we all know these classics. But they have their boring moments too. I've yet to listen to one of their albums without skipping a song, but the songs that I don't skip are songs that I really love, so it's kind of weird.
And now five years after "Stadium Arcadium" (which kind of passed by me without me noticing) the band is about to release a new album called "I'm With You" and I'm a bit excited for this one. The band has a new guitarist which could change their sound for the better or for the worse, we'll see.
The release date is the 26th of August, so we'll have to wait some time for the album but not for a single. It's called "The Adventures of Raindance Maggie" and will be out on July 18, but here is something that kind of shocked me: Kreayshawn is going to direct the video to the song. If you don't know her, check out her most infamous song:

(Yeah Left Brain is in the video, doesn't make that shit good though).
Apparently this girl has some talent for directing videos but I won't believe it until I see it. I hope it's not just a cheap performance video.
I'm looking forward to the song anyway, wanna see if RHCP still are rocking it.

You can already preorder the album here:

The new Lil B album 'I'm Gay' leaked today, but I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. You can buy it now on exclusively on Itunes, which is kind of stupid, but a download is not hard to find either. I won't post it here for obvious reasons.
This is the tracklist:
1. (00:03:59) Lil B - Trapped In Prison
2. (00:02:47) Lil B - Open Thunder Eternal Slumber
3. (00:03:43) Lil B - Game
4. (00:03:54) Lil B - Unchain Me
5. (00:02:36) Lil B - Neva Stop Me

11. (00:04:03) Lil B - My Last Chance
12. (00:03:59) Lil B - 1 Time Remix

And he said he would drop another album later today. I just hope the quality won't go down because of that.

M83 - Echoes

2011-06-28T12:04:00.000-07:00

Here is one band I really love: M83. Seriously though every album has been great so far and I doubt that the mastermind behind the project Anthony Gonzalez (pictured above) is able to deliver something bad. He is about to release a new album which has been hyped up by himself pretty good. He called very, very, very epic and very orchestrated which already should excite you if you're a fan of the band. It will probably be a double album too :D
There's no release date yet but we finally have a teaser that gives us an idea of how it will sound:

I can't wait...

Classics: Elsiane - Hybrid

2011-06-22T23:34:00.000-07:00

I know I've been posting a lot of hip hop/rap recently, but that's just because I seem to be in a phase right now, where I enjoy listening to it the most. But I actually listen to all kinds of genres(yes even black metal).
So for something different now, this is one of my favorite albums of all time. It maybe has some hip hop in it but judge for yourself.

Those two you see above comprise a duo called Elsiane and they are Elsianne Caplette and Stephane Sotto. Their music is very hard to describe or to categorize, as they seem to have a lot of different influences. I would say it's kind of trip-hoppy with and orchestral touch to it, but don't rely on my description.

Elsiane released their first album in 2007. It's named "Hybrid", maybe because of the mix of genres that the music contains?
I don't know. What I know is that it sounds damn good. To be honest you have to get used to the vocals because they may sound a bit unusual/crazy at the beginning but after you've done that you can enjoy this masterpiece fully.
To me the best thing here is how epic but at the same time very personal this album sounds. It sounds a bit like a dream or like something not from the normal world, but still somehow natural and familiar. It's just hard to describe. There's also not one bad song on here, it's just something that you can listen to fully without skipping anything. I've listened to this a lot while falling asleep, it's the perfect album for that, not because it's boring though, it just has a dreamy quality to it. If you love music please give yourself some time to get used to this, you will love it later!
Enough of me trying to describe this, check out some of the highlight tracks for yourself:

Mellowhype - 64 (official video)

2011-06-13T00:08:00.000-07:00

Mellowhype finally has an official video out for their song "64", I already had posted some live performances of the song. As you can see by the promotional picture above the video and the song are pretty dark, almost like a horror movie(including really creppy children). I've always loved Left Brain's production but I feel like his beats got even better, I'm kind of looking forward to "Numbers" more than I did to "Goblin", I think "Numbers" will be really amazing. This song will be on the re-release of "BlackenedWhite" though, which is a great album too.
Enough talk, check out the video:

And pre-order the album here, if you like the song:

Drake - Take Care

2011-06-12T01:34:00.000-07:00

Drake just posted a new song called "Marvins Room" from his upcoming Take Care album on his official blog. The song is kind of a ballad, Drake mostly sings but also delivers some rap verses later in the song. To me it sounds like a typical Drake track, nothing really new but it's still damn good.
You can download the song over at pitchforkmedia: Drake - Marvins Room
Drake also revealed the release date, which isn't September 13 as previously thought, the album drop on October 24, so we'll have to wait a bit longer.

UPDATE: Whole thing leaked today(Nov 8)...
