The Shakiest Gun in the West (46.67%)

Last night I decided to watch the first movie that came up on Netflix's homepage, and this was the winner. Directed by Alan Rafkin and starring Don Knotts and Barbara Rhoades, this western from the 1960's was charming in the way only stupid movies can be.
Jesse Haywood is an awkward new graduate from dentist school, when he decides to leave his mother and move out west. Meanwhile Penelope Cushing, a bandit-turned-government agent, needs to find some rifle smugglers on a wagon train, but she can't join up because the leader won't allow single women. She decides that Jesse would be easy to woo, and proceeds to marry him before joining the wagon train the next day. During their voyage, Jesse accidentally falls behind the wagon train, and he and Penny are waylaid by mean Indians! Penny shoots them all from behind Jesse, so that he thinks it was all him, and when they get to the next town, Jesse is touted as a real good gunslinger. The rifle smugglers think Jesse is the government agent, and to get rid of him, they hire Arnold the Kid to duel Jesse. Once again, Penny hides and shoots Arnold during the duel so that Jesse thought it was his doing. I won't give away the ending, but it involves someone being captured by Indians!

I have three categories (for now) for movie-rating: plot, characters, and scenery.
Plot:
It's an interesting flip of the usual damsel-in-distress, big tough cowboy savior, Westerns. However, this idea would have been cooler in an actual drama, rather than a comedy. I'll give it a 5 out of 10.
Characters:
Jesse was lovably awkward and most of the time stupid; Penny was the gorgeous bad girl. For some reason, I always liked it when she yelled, "Would you shut up!" at Jesse. I also like Jesse's mother. 6 out of 10.
Scenery:
As expected from a 60's Western. The Indian costumes were particularly awful. The scenes were rather bare. I would have expected the West to be more dirty than the movie depicted it. 3 out of 10.
So, on average, the movie gets a 46.67% approval rating from me

Quick Update

Dang it's been 7 months since I last posted a blog entry... I guess I just haven't felt anything worth writing. I've started a new semester at college. I'm excited to be taking my first programming class (Java).

Also, looking forward to Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition! It's coming out September 18 -- about two and a half weeks from today. I never did actually finish Baldur's Gate, and then I lost most of the CDs so I haven't been able to play it for a couple years. But now I can and will finish the game!

Been listening to a lot of Fiona Apple, watching King of the Hill, reading different books, riding horses. I will try to make posts about all of these things and more in the coming weeks!

Star Wars: the Old Republic first impressions

I've been playing TOR for about 3 weeks now, I'm at level 30 (out of 50). The first two weeks were pretty intense: I wanted to play every free moment I had, but that's worn off. I'm not getting sick of the game, just not as fervently interested. I thought I would share some of my thoughts on the game.

I'll list the thoughts in order of most favorable to least favorable.

I think my favorite thing about TOR is the party conversations. When you're in a conversation with other real people your party, everybody rolls for who gets to speak. So it's just like if you were playing an rpg with actual real people in your party. I don't know why, but I think that's freakin awesome.

Of course, the story is pretty good, at least the Smuggler story is good, I haven't played anything else. Like everybody else says, TOR eliminates the "go here, kill this, and collect that" quests, and gives everything a story. There's a reason that you need to kill those guys, and you know what it is!

Oh, another cool thing is the planets/maps. They're very beautiful, the graphics are great on high setting (if your computer can handle it). All the planets I've been to are diverse and unique.

The first thing I don't really like is the vast number of abilities. I can't keep track of all these keybindings :(

Also, I don't really like the character customization. I mean, it's cool that you can be aliens, but they all have the same human body and face types. I wanted to be a Rodian or a Hutt.. Also, I've seen free Korean MMOs with more face/body customization than this (e.g. Perfect World ). I hope they'll make
characters more customizable by the time I roll my second one.

One last thing: I got the game as a birthday gift, and the first thing I did was go home, install it, create an account, etc. And it kind of pissed me off because the account creation said you had to either enter a game time code or subscribe before you could start playing even thought the game came with a free month of playtime!! So I didn't want to go to the store for a time-card or order one online and wait for it: I wanted to play this f**king game right away! So, I was (not really) forced to purchase a subscription :*(

Ba... Bastilla?!?! oh, wait... Revan and Bastilla's descendant?!?

OK, that's more than I meant to write, and I have even more things in my head to say about this, but.. I don't like long blog entries. So, I hope you all have a good week and stuff. Maybe next I'll post screenshots.

Pixyteriyaki, Pixyteri, Sarah Misao. People (/cgl/) call her fat, weeaboo, hambeast,ugly and most recently, pedophile. She dreams of one day going to Japan, and I'm sure one day her dream will come true. She also cosplays and takes pictures of herself in the costumes. Go check out her kawaii desu photos on deviantart or go look at her tumblr. whatever.

Aah, it's been too long, blogger.
Today I had an interview at a restaurant for a job. I'm pretty sure I totally fucked it up with my nervousness, and my general shy- quiet-ness. I mean, I kept telling myself beforehand, "It doesn't matter, the worst that can happen is say no, just relax" but that didn't really help during the interview :(. And I hate talking about myself anyway, especially to strangers.....

Felicia Day's The Guild, a popular web series, is starting season five pretty soon. I, for one, am a huge fan of the series and excited for the new season. I recommend this show to everyone, it's very entertaining and the episodes are only 3-8 minutes long (good for people with short attention spans).

Unemployment

I recently graduated high school, so now I'm looking for a job so my lazy ass can go to community college. It sucks though, cause any place that is hiring says they want you to have experience, and then I think about all the other people applying for the job and how much more experience they have than me, and it just makes me think that I don't really deserve that job. The last real job interview I had was a few months ago for a position at Gamestop (I know, I know) and it was one of those group interviews. There was another applicant who had actually gone to college and had a degree! and another guy who had just gotten out of the military! It just made me think, These two deserve this job way more than I do.
Anyway, done ranting. I've been looking at Craigslist mostly, and applying to a few places that are close and that I am qualified for. I hope I can find something:)

it's a horse

I'm very excited to travel to New Jersey this Friday. We'll be staying there for a week for my cousin's wedding. We're planning on going to the 'shore' for a day, visiting New York city, and maybe riding bikes around. Also, one of my aunts owns a horse boarding stable so hopefully I can ride horses too! (when I was a kid I was obsessed with horses. I still love them, but not as much). I'll take pictures and post some of them in about two weeks. Also, sorry about the bad-quality writing of this post. I'm not in the mood to write right now, so I'm not putting much thought into it (as usual heh).Also, I went to the beach last week Wed. It was gorgeous out, nice and warm and the water was cold. I'm babysitting at my brother's house right now. He has cable and I'm watching MADE on MTV. What the heck is this show? They took three high schoolers and are teaching them how to hip-hop dance in four weeks. Then they're going to compete against each other for 5,000 bucks.

Cake Mania: Why?

Well, I made my first stupid purchase with my new debit card yesterday! I bought the newest cake mania game from sandlot games for $6.99. I had been playing the one hour demo and was just so addicted to it, I NEEDED to finish it. Maybe I wouldn't feel so bad if it was a couple bucks cheaper but I just feel really dumb for spending even seven dollars on such a dumb game. Here, have a video of this retardation.

I don't know what to write about today so I think I'll just treat this as a kind of day's activities journal.

This morning I woke up around 8:30 and went to the grade school I volunteer at. They were having Olympics Day today, which is basically the whole school dividing into teams and doing various athletic games. I helped out with games.
During the break between the end of the activities and lunch, I drove to the bank real quick to make a deposit. Unfortunately, stupid me locked my keys in the car so I had to use the bank's phone to call my dad who then called my mom who came with an extra set of keys and rescued me. :)
Then I went home and neglected some schoolwork, watched some Lucky Star, picked up my nephew from school, went out for slurpees, and now am here. Yes a pretty average day for myself. I hope everyone had a good Friday!

My mom and I went to a Holland Festival thrown by my nephew's school this afternoon. It was not very pleasant with so many people outside under the hot sun, but I did buy a few things for my mom for mother's day tomorrow. My mom moved to America from the Netherlands when she was three so I wanted to get her some things from her homeland! I did a lot of other shopping today and my feet hurt now. Have a good mother's day tomorrow, everybody!

The Fountainhead

When people think of Ayn Rand, usually the first book they think of is Atlas Shrugged. But The Fountainhead is an equally well-written book by her. It is also quite a long book, but well worth the time it takes. It is a tale of power and the motives of men. I don't agree with all of Ms. Rand's philosophy but the book is worth reading.

This movie was made in 1949, I haven't seen it, but the trailer makes it look like exactly the kind of thing that the main character in the book would dislike.

Gardening

Baby spiders. So cute!!

Here are some pictures I took while gardening in my backyard sometime last year. I feel weird for enjoying gardens, it seems like an old-person thing. I feel like an old person sometimes. I live like an old person. I enjoy going for walks, reading with a cup of coffee or tea, staying in rather than going out every night. I live very quietly, and I like it that way.
Anyways, when I come across interesting insects, I run inside and grab my camera. I'm not a photographer, I just like capturing interesting things once in a while.

If you look very closely, you can see ant larva. I must have disturbed their nest.

Portal 2

I'm not very good at writing reviews so I'm just going to write a little about Portal 2, which I finished this weekend. Going through the old test chambers from the 50's was pretty cool, it reminded me of Fallout 3.I also liked the white, blue, and orange gels, they added a new dimension to the puzzle solving. And I thought the ending was appropriate

The blue gel, making the robots bounce. I lol'd when this happened.

I started playing the first Fallout on Friday. Dang this game is old haha. I will write about that one when I finish it, which will probably be in a long time.

Hourou Musuko

Makoto Ariga

Hourou Musuko (Wandering Son) is an anime about some middle-schoolers that crossdress. I'm about halfway through the series right now, so it's too early to give an opinion on it, but it's pretty interesting so far. My favorite character is Makoto Ariga. He's a secondary character, he's shy, and he's dorky looking. It's funny to me how serious and dramatic all these kids are, but I guess we're all like that when we're young.
I've been playing Portal 2 as well, but I'll write about that later.

Energy Drinks

It is 10 AM. I can not concentrate, my eyes are tired, I just want to go to bed. I have a lot of things to do, but I could easily put them off until tomorrow, or next week. I am really craving an energy drink too. I used to drink sugar-free rockstars all the time (at least every other day). I think I'm going to go to the store and get one, and maybe some kind of junk food too. We have only healthy food in the house and nothing sounds good. What are your favorite energy drinks? Or, what do you think about the health risks of energy drinks?
