XBOX 360 Repair: Red Ring Of Death Fix

Hey there, I know how it feels to be a victim of the Xbox 360 red ring of death. That is probably one of the worst things that an owner of the Xbox console can go through.

There are a lot of reasons in which this occurs. You might have heard about that e74 error message that a lot of gamers are getting lately as well.

Now the question is:

Can It Be Fixed Permanently Within 2 Hours From Now? Yes it can! That is the good news my friend. There are a variety of fixes that range from 30 minutes to 2 hours and even up to 3-4 weeks to get your console back to working. But our main concern is to have our console back ASAP right?

Two of them are permanent fixes while the other is a temporary one. Want to take a guess? I will tell you below:

1. The famous "towel trick" Yes, this is probably the worst technique that any Xbox owner can do to get their Xbox back to work. By doing this trick, the red ring of death will disappear and you can have your console working in as little as 30 minutes.

The downside: This is only a temporary fix and the red lights will most likely come back within a week or so.

2. For those who have warranty with Microsoft, you can definitely send the console to them. This is a great option for those who don't feel comfortable sending it to a local technician, due to the reason that they may take parts from your Xbox 360 console. However, Microsoft will reward you by permanently fixing your console.

The downside: It may take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to get your console back from Microsoft and you will have to pay for shipping which costs anywhere from $30 and up (Remember: This is quite a heavy console)

3. You can also use a DIY (Do It Yourself) guide. This is basically an online guide that will literally show you step by step videos on how to fix your console from your own home. This is a permanent fix and you can have your console permanently fixed and working within 1 hour the most.

The downside: You will have to manually do it yourself.

I hope you guys found these tips and considerations very helpful.

What's my recommendation?

I personally used the 3rd option because I wanted my Xbox to FULLY work and to be fixed PERMANENTLY rather than a temporary one. I actually felt more comfortable doing it myself rather than sending it else where because there are technicians that will "swap" parts from your Xbox console with another one.

That's right, people are sneaky enough to do that. It happened to me and it will most likely happen to you (unless you personally know them).

Xbox 360, Microsoft's video game console is subject to many issues besides the general hardware failure nick named the Red Ring of Death. Since its release in 2005, Xbox 360 is under controversies for the higher failure rates and Microsoft not only had to extend the warranty period of the device due to failure complaints but eventually launched an upgraded version 'Xbox 360 S' covering the issues like red ring of death error. Though the general hardware failure brought a very bad name to the device and damaging the overall goodwill of the company but it was not the only failure detected. Many other failures listed below were also contributing towards the customer's dissatisfaction.

1. Hardware failure

Hardware failure is the result of malfunctioning of any component on the motherboard and is indicated by a one led flashing around the power button. Usually an error code is also displayed on the bottom of screen referring to the component causing the failure like E74. This is more commonly known as one red light problem. 2. Overheating

Well if you aren't presented with any of the above symbols and are seeing 3 red lights, then I'm afraid your console has been contaminated with the red ring of death and your console is pretty much a regular piece of junk until you have it repaired. The red ring of death is caused due to one major problem and that is excessive overheating. The trouble is that during intense game play the heat sinks within the console become so hot that they eventually melt the thermal compounds between the CPU and GPU. My e-commerce site was not only slammed by Google's algorithm updates in September 2012, it was buried - cremated may sound even better. How, you might ask? To this day, I'm not really too sure if it was the Penguin or Panda update, but one of those bad-assed animals took me down - HARD.

My site went from about 150-175 unique visitors a day to TWO - overnight. Like many, many other site owners out there, I was devastated! In less than 24 hours, my site got buried back on page 15+ on Google.
And if that wasn't enough, Google started de-indexing my pages - one by one until I was left with nothing but the handful of solid backlinks I'd gotten over the last few years of being in business.

I didn't know what to do. I'd actually had the site and business up for sale for a couple of weeks before the take-down but after Google hammered me, I couldn't have given the site away.

So I left it sit for about another month or so while Google systematically de-indexed about 85% of the site's pages. Slow but sure death and cremation of a site I'd worked hours and hours and hours to build and rebuild. Gone.

Now, I have to say, this wasn't one of those "niche sites" just for making AdSense or Amazon cash. This was a full-fledged storefront for a product that I design and sell myself.

And I'd taken it from nothing to being on the front page of Google between #1 and #8 position for m
ost of the primary keywords I wanted. I was just gaining an edge on some of my top competitors when - BAM - Google decided my site just wasn't good enough.

I'd worked on this site for the better part of four years and had registered a brand new NON-exact match domain name about six months before the slam. So I was rather livid to say the least. I will say that hearing some mega major corporations being slammed as well did make me feel a little better. At least I knew I wasn't alone, for whatever that was worth.

So what did I do get back into Google's good graces? I didn't file a reconsideration petition. I didn't follow the "advice" from the "gurus" and buy a new domain name or contact the site owners from where my allegedly "spammy links" were coming from. In fact, when I did a backlink analysis, there really wasn't much there to be concerned with. So that left on-page issues like overusing certain keywords and/or lacking significant content.

Some "gurus" said my site was worthless now so I may as well 'put my big girl panties on' and accept it. Quit. Do something else. You're done. You did something wrong and now you can't undo it.

I am so glad I didn't listen to any of them!!

I knew I had a valuable website with something to say, a great product to offer and content that just needed some updating to be more valuable. So I decided to start on my path to recovery, exhume the ashes of my now more-than-dead site and get to work.

Step One - Remove the Site from Google Analytics
That's right. They de-indexed the site so why bother analyzing it anymore. They took it from me, I took it from them.

Step Two - Take It Down.
Yup. I removed every last file from the server and replaced it all with only two files - the index and the custom 404. Regardless of where people landed, they got the same message - and this is crucial in retaining visitors even during downtime.

I did not use any "under construction" images or anything like that. I did a video - me on camera - explaining that I had taken the site down temporarily while doing a complete renovation, to please bookmark the site and stop back around December 5.

Why did I give them a date? Because I didn't want to have to do another video, for one, and it gave me a deadline to work towards so I wouldn't get sidetracked doing anything else. The same video announcement went on both the temporary home page and on the custom 404 page.

Step Three - Get Educated.
This was something I learned while wandering around YouTube in a daze one day wondering what to do with my site. Sometimes a good redesign with some updated content can do the trick. But you have to know what is wrong and how to fix it. And that takes some research.

My site was built as an html/css static site, which now that I know more about WordPress, I know using an html site leaves a HUGE margin for error if you're not careful. And now I believe this was one of the main negatives for my site. The URL structure was not correct for the site and the way I was copy/pasting pages to use for other pages encouraged the dreaded "duplicate content" within the site.

The duplicate content actually came in the form of repeated meta tag keywords and meta descriptions showing up on more than one page. Google does not like that - at all. And they'll let you know by starting to de-index those alleged 'spammy' pages.

So I knew I had to rebuild the site using WordPress. And that meant learning a lot more about WordPress than just setting up a content blog. This was serious business here. My old html site had the lightbox effect for the product images and a custom order form. I had to replicate that in the new site.

Step Four - Go to YouTube
And watch a lot of instructional videos about WordPress. On YouTube I found out how to install the lightbox plug-in, includes plug-in for WordPress, and how to structure the URLs for a solid site that Google would love.

Step Five - Dig In and Start to Work!
I'd already started to get familiar with the Atahualpa theme since using it to rebuild another site, so I figured I'd start with that theme and go from there. Again, because I'm a self-admitted YouTube junkie, I go there first when I need help with stuff. So I spent a lot of time with two browser windows open - one with a YouTube instructional video, the other with the WordPress dashboard open following along.
I've also learned a lot about PhotoShop via YouTube so that helped me design an new header image for the site.

Once the framework was done, i.e., color scheme, layout, css adds, etc., it was time to start copy/pasting over 200 pages of html into Pages and Posts. I love using shortcodes and Include files so I went back to YouTube and found the video I needed to learn how to do that in WordPress. Piece of cake.

Step Six - Time for the New Sitemap!
After about 60 hours, yes, an entire week of "overtime," the site was ready for its new sitemap and re-add to Google Analytics.

Step Seven - Time, Patience, Education and WORK
Paid off! I added the site back to Google Analytics along with a brand new 267 page sitemap on December 1. December 2 I checked and they had already indexed 179 pages! And that was after they'd de-indexed all but 23 of 260 pages a couple of months earlier!
So what did I learn from this?

First, when it needs to be done right - Do It Yourself! There are just some things that can't and shouldn't be outsourced to anyone else. And when it comes to your business website, this is something that needs to be taken on by you alone.

Why? You know what you want and it's beneficial to actually get the education and learn new things along the way because they'll be easier to fix in the future if you have to edit something.
Also, as I moved along through the rebuilding, I recognized several areas where what I had created the first time probably was seen by the Google 'bots as spamming and duplicate content. If I'd outsourced the job to someone else to "copy/paste" their way through rebuilding, they may not have recognized it.
The 'Gurus' Aren't Always Right!

I'd been told by so many people over the last couple of months that my site was dead in the water. Forget it. Start over with something new. Let the domain name expire because it's worthless now.
And a lot of people probably would have. A lot of people have, especially if they were only small niche sites set up only for the purpose of making Google AdSense or Amazon Associate cash.

I also think there are a lot of people who may be afraid to start over because they may not have invested the 'blood, sweat & tears' into their businesses to begin with. They may feel they have nothing to lose so why bother, right?

I could have just ditched this business too, but I was like, I'm gonna beat you, Google! I am not going down without trying! LOL

And then there are the "stereotypical" online marketers who are pretty much just too lazy to put in the effort it will take to exhume their sites from the Google cemetery and they're perfectly content to start over. Whatever works for them!

But I had a feeling that if you can show Google you're 100% serious about your business by doing what it takes to survive out there, they'll work with you. And - I never filed any of those stupid "Reconsideration" things either. Not necessary. I would have felt like I was begging for mercy or something.

I didn't touch any of the already incoming links to the site either. I left those as they are, wherever they're coming from. I don't think I got hit over that to begin with. I still think it was on-page "over-optimization" - in Google's algorithms anyway - that nailed my site. And I think reconfiguring and rebuilding all of my 'old' content into some fresh stuff made the difference.
Going Forward from Recovery

Content - Content - Content. There are two main people I have to give a shout-out to during this entire process both for their encouragement, the way they keep their websites at the top and their 100% focus on building quality content.

I'm a Holistic Nutritionist that educates and coaches people on the nutritional benefits of eating whole natural foods. I want to talk about one nutrient in our food supply, FAT, and what happens to our body when we eat it.

There are bad fats, the worst fat, and good fats.
Bad Fats come to us as refined oils and saturated fats.
Refined oils are conventionally produced and mechanically pressed. They are also treated with chemical solvents. Then they are heated at high temperatures and filtered many times to deodorize them and remove impurities. And to protect them from becoming rancid, preservatives are added to them.
Refined oils come to us as polyunsaturated oils like safflower, corn, canola, sunflower, and peanut oil. They are difficult for the body to metabolize, so they get stored in fat cells along with the other toxins in your food supply, and your body gets fat.

Since these oils have been introduced to our food supply, we suffer more from degenerative diseases than ever before. We use these oils in many meals we prepare at home. They are also in restaurant and processed foods.

Saturated Fats are usually hard at room temperature. The main sources come from animal products like red meat, pork, lamb, poultry and their by-products. By-products are eggs, and dairy products such as milk, yogurt, butter, cheese, and ice cream. Saturated fats are in tropical plants such as coconuts, coconut butter or oil, palm kernel oil, and palm oil, however, they are not the same number of chains as saturated fats from animals. I'll talk about them in a few minutes.

We have heard about saturated fats contributing to high cholesterol and heart disease. Outside sources of cholesterol come from animal products, not plants. There is little difference in cholesterol content of meat, poultry, or fish as some believe. Even though our cells need saturated fat, the body can make it from carbohydrates.

There is a solution to the saturated fat and the cholesterol issue. Eat whole plant foods. Plants have no cholesterol and little saturated fat, if any.

The Worst Fats are trans-fats. Like the oils mentioned above, they are highly refined, heated, and filtered using chemicals. They raise total cholesterol and lower HDL ("good") cholesterol. They are not natural and cannot benefit health. Your body has to put this fat somewhere, so it parks it in the fat cells in your belly, hips, butt, and breasts, causing weight gain, obesity, and arterial disease.

Trans-fats are plentiful in our food supply. Trans-fats are unsaturated oils put through a hydrogenation process. This is where hydrogen and vegetable oil spins at a rapid rate to form a solid fat. Nearly 90% of trans-fats in foods come from hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. Hydrogenation makes food more stable, changes the texture, adds more shelf life, and preserves freshness. Hydrogenation is widely used in the fast-food industry and restaurants for deep-frying. The remaining 10% come from animal foods such as meat and dairy, and possibly a minute amount from vegetables.

Omega-3 fats are polyunsaturated fats that are good for you and easy to metabolize. They come in many plant foods such as dark leafy greens, broccoli, sea vegetables, and oils extracted from selected seeds such as flax, chia, and hemp seeds. Warning: they are sensitive to heat, and become rancid, oxidize, and form free radicals when used in cooking or left unrefrigerated. It's best to add seed oils to salad dressings and smoothies.

Monounsaturated fats are considered beneficial. They can protect you against chronic diseases. They are found in olives, avocados, and most nuts, excluding walnuts. Cold-pressed and minimally processed olive and avocado oils are good sources of monounsaturated fat.

Tropical Oils are plant foods that have saturated fats. They are coconuts, coconut oil and coconut butter, palm oil, and palm kernel oil. We are told to stay away from tropical oils because they will increase cholesterol levels, clog our arteries, and eventually kill us with heart disease or stroke. Logic would tell us this is true based on what we are told. But, is this true for coconuts?

Tropical populations consume large amounts of coconuts along with their natural oils. The opposite results are proven. Studies done in the South Pacific Islands show heart disease to be rare and no confirmation coconuts and their oils had harmful effects on the population.

Coconuts and their oils contain medium chain fatty acids, which are different from saturated fats having large chain fatty acids that cause damage to our arteries. Coconuts and unrefined their oils contain about 40% lauric acid. The body converts lauric acid into monolaurin, acting as antiviral, antimicrobial, and antifungal, destroying harmful microorganisms in the body. Coconuts can be a powerful tool to fight against immune diseases such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, and recently reported to have a significant effect on brain function as a natural treatment for dementia.

Palm and palm kernel oils are refined and heated at high temperatures. They are added to processed foods. These are the tropical oils to stay away from.

So, do fats make you fat?
Yes it can, if you are counting calories. There are twice as many calories in fats than in carbohydrates and protein foods. So use the good fats with care.

And, yes it can, if you are eating refined oils and trans-fats from partially hydrogenated oils. They are difficult for the liver to process so they go into fat cells and held captive, making you fatter.

No, it won't make you fat if you are eating good fats in moderation.
Here's a reminder of where to get the good fats:

To do this, Israel should return the occupied territories, and all Arab countries have to recognize Israel and its borders. This is the solution. And it is the only way to resolve this conflict,â€ the expert said in an interview with news agency â€œPenzaNews.â€
However, according to him, now Tel Aviv will not take this step because of the difficult situation in the Arab world: much will depend on the solution of the Syrian crisis and Iranian issue.

â€œIn my view, the Middle East Quartet mediators have to strengthen their work in this area, though now they are more concerned with the problems of Damascus and Tehran. It is impossible to achieve peace between Israel and Palestine by military means. What needs to be done is to pressure on both sides of the conflict in order to convince them to form two independent states,â€ Kamal Sido said.

Meanwhile, well-known public figure in Israel and Russia, reformist rabbi Gregory Kotlyar stressed that military operations can only provide temporary truce, but not a long-term peace.

â€œThis approach achieves only a brief respite while terrorists dig new bunkers, replenish stocks of arms and prepare for a new round of conflict. Tel Aviv, in principle, is willing to negotiate, but on condition that Hamas renounces terrorism and its declarative intention to â€œwipe Israel off the map,â€ said Gregory Kotlyar and added that Israeli military actions were never aimed against civilian people of Gaza.
According to the analyst, Hamas enjoys unlimited Iranian support that primarily involves the supply of weapons.

â€œMaybe if it were possible to break this bond, Hamas would be able to make concessions and give up the war, - then there would be a chance to resolve the conflict. Otherwise, we will see its new outbreaks in the foreseeable future,â€ emphasized Gregory Kotlyar.

Analyzing the outcome of the recent conflict, Hugh Lovatt, Middle East Peace Process Project Officer at the European Council on Foreign Relations stated that â€œdespite the best efforts of the Israeli Prime Ministerâ€™s office to spin the ceasefire agreement as an Israeli victory, the inescapable truth is that Hamas seems to have gotten the better end of the stick.â€

â€œThe recent violence has allowed Hamas to strengthen its position. It looks to have ended its regional isolation with the ceasefire agreement promising a general easing of the current siege. In a sign of pan-regional solidarity a high-profile delegation of ten Foreign Ministers from Arab countries and Turkey led by Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi visited the Strip despite on-going strikes. Moreover, Hamas seems to have won the moral backing of Turkey, Egypt and Qatar. While all three of these countries played a crucial role in bringing opposing sides together in ceasefire negotiations, they also took outspoken positions in supporting the Palestinian cause and criticizing Israeli actions,â€ the expert reminded.
In his opinion, the significance of this ceasefire extends beyond the narrow confines of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict.

â€œThe actions of Egypt, Qatar and Turkey seem to reinforce the notion of a new triumvirate of regional powers emerging in the wake of the tectonic shifts produced by the Arab Spring. These three are increasingly setting themselves up to be key backroom players in trouble shooting the regionâ€™s various conflicts, not least thanks to a pragmatism that has so far enabled them to engage in dialogue with competing sides and win growing Western confidence.

But the international community should be under no illusions; Doha, Cairo and Ankara have little intention of becoming Deputy Sheriff. Rather, they can be expected to pursue policies in accordance with their own long-term strategic interests. These have so far been mostly in synch with those of the West, but this may not always be the case in the future. While it is too early to tell what the long term impact of this potential grouping will be, the recent conflict has offered a tantalizing glimpse of what a new form of Middle Eastern politics based around a Cairo-Ankara-Doha axis could look like it,â€ Hugh Lovatt concluded.
