It's Fashion Week at Antique~Graphique...Mad Men Style!

Even though I'm no fashion expert, (I'm more the jeans & sweatshirt type here on the farm!), I've had a blast listing these fashion ads from 1961...which lands right in the middle of the "Mad Men" era! The artwork, illustrations and photography are amazing and the vintage fashions are fascinating. The 60's, like so many other decades & eras, definitely had its own distinct look!

Wow, can it really be that we're already into November?? As so many years have recently, 2011 is flying by faster than I can comprehend...and it's already time to think about the holidays! I even heard Christmas music at Walmart yesterday (Halloween). Oh my.

So, like me, I'm sure that many of you are always searching for unique gifts...the ones that really stand out, the ones that you love giving as much as they love getting. How about a (sort of) DIY gift this year?

Husband & I finally broke our ties with TV a few months ago...we shut down our Dish Network and now have no television whatsoever, not even local channels. Even though neither one of us watched it much to start with, we were reluctant to cancel the service since there was always the possibility of "a great program on the History Channel" or an "amazing concert being shown on OPB" or some breaking news ... shows we surely wouldn't want to miss!! Funny thing is, those shows came along so rarely that the TV was never on except to watch a movie on DVD.

We get along just fine without access to 700 channels 24/7. All the news we could ever use is available on the Internet, whenever we want or need it. We do enjoy movies, and many of the shows from HBO & Showtime, so we order those from Netflix and watch them a couple of evenings a week.

We may need to re-think our strategy when World Cup Soccer comes along...but for now the TV is off. Sounds like a good time to read a book! :)

Surprises Found in a Box...Baby Prince William!

The craziest thing happened last night, 4/29/11. I was in the kitchen getting dinner started & washing dishes, and my husband was in his office going through a large box of ephemera to list online. I turned around to find him standing there looking shocked. "This is weird," he said.

He handed me a manila folder, and as I started to look through it, it hit me what I was looking at. The folder is full of old AP Wire Photos, marked up for publication. They are black & white photos of Prince Charles & Princess Diana with baby Prince William... found on the eve of William's wedding, no less!

Many of the photos are of Prince William as a baby, but there are later shots also, including one of him holding his new baby brother, Prince Harry. I think my favorite one is of 4-year-old William as a page at the Royal Wedding of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew...sticking his tongue out at one of the flower girls :)

We have no real idea of where these photos came from, or how they ended up in our hands. I'm still amazed that they did, and even more, when they did. What are the chances???

The Page Rescue offers quality Vintage Print Ads carefully rescued from magazines & various publications. All items come with a Certificate of Provenance and are shipped flat in a poly bag and sturdy cardboard mailing envelope.

The Page Rescue became a reality when we found that many of the vintage magazines we had in inventory were not selling, or were sitting for a very long time. After researching a bit, we found that there was a market for those great old product and service advertisements from those magazines, so we set about to rescue them from sitting on our storage shelves for years!

I live and work in the coastal range of Oregon, about an hour and a half from Portland where my workshop looks out over a small valley surrounded by mountains. My work is partly inspired by this setting and also by the rich traditions and vernacular of Asian architecture and furniture- making, especially the Japanese.

All my pieces are individually handcrafted using hand tools wherever possible and practical. I enjoy the commitment to craft this requires and the satisfaction which results. Wood is carefully chosen for color, grain and figure which will enhance and invigorate the piece, yet not overpower it. One thing that attracts to me this style is the restraint and discipline it demands.

In addition to my own designs I enjoy the challenge of custom work and helping to realize the ideas and inspiration of others.
