Swadeshi: A Pride & Honor

The project started with a thought by Alok and Nagaraj after visiting the Khadi unit in Bengari, Hubli. A shared observation by the pair was that those the unit have all the necessary infrastructure and a good variety of products, they are not able to promote their business in way to secure profit. The business was incurring huge losses.

An idea was sparked in the minds of the two gentlemen as they discussed ways to improve the Khadi unit's business strategy. By partnering the Global College with Small Cottage Industries. students would have the ability to showcase their business and marketing expertise at no cost to the struggling business.

As a result, Swadeshi- A Pride and Honor, was designed in association with Global College. The students of the college were enthusiastic about participating in the project. On October 6th and 7th of 2012 over fifty stalls hosted Khadi, rural art, homemade products, and activities. The inauguration began at 10:30am by Mr. Naveen Jha of the Deshpande Foundation and Mr. Kumarswami, Vice Chairman of Global College. Over 2,000 people visited and Rs2 Lacs was generated during the two day event.

The successful completion of Swadeshi was showcased in six newspapers. Hubli Champions truly appreciated the efforts of Alok and Nagaraj from Batch VI.

CAPSTONE PROJECT REPORT - FIFTH BATCH CHAMPIONS.

A science exhibition titled, OUR PLANET OUR CONSCIENTIOUSNESS – young minds’ concern for the most beautiful planet in the universe’ was organized on 29-07-2012 in the premises of Deshpande Centre for Social entrepreneurship BVB College, Vidya Nagar.

The organisers group comprised of Dr Kaveri Hallikeri, Dr Kruthika S Guttal, Mr. Bharath Thakkar, Mr Somashekhar Masuti, Mr Gyan Laturkar of fifth batch of hubli champions.

Ten schools from hubli and Dharwad were randomly selected for participation. The schools from Hubli were- CHETAN PUBLIC SCHOOL, Dr G V Joshi Rotary English medium school, Convent High School, St Anthony’s Public School, St Mary’s High school , Smt Nirmala K Thakkar High School. Schools from Dharwad were- Baala Balaga, Basel mission English Medium School, Pavan English Medium School, SDM Central School.

The participants belonged to 8th , 9th , 1oth classes. Students from 8th and 9th class were to present posters of chart paper size and 10th class students had to prepare models from refused or waste materials available at home. (minimise use of new materials).

The topics were as follows-

8th class - Conservation of water & your inputs for need of the day.

9th class - Gadget o mania & social networking sites- its repercussions on human health & society

10th class - Environmental abuse – where do we stand in future.

The program was took off at 10 am in the morning... Overall of 41 groups of 140 enthusiastic students participated in the event.

The event also saw a stall from USHAS an organisation training children with special needs. Products made by children were displayed and few children and teachers appreciated their hard work by buying few of the products.

Mr Luiz , Principal of Sukruthi College, Mr. Anil Joshi , Program Manager (academics) Agastya International Foundation had consented to be the judges for the event.

Tough competition was set up by confident students. The prize winners were-
8th std –
First prize- SDM central school - Tushar, Vijayalakshmi, Shreya TM.
Second prize- Pavan English medium school -Rachita Byahatti, Madhuri Yavgal,Supreet patil.

9th std

First prize - Convent high school - Nakshatra, Shrinidhi, Supriya Desai.

SECOND prize - Pavan English medium school -Pooja Kulkarni, Suman, Amruta Deshpande.

10th STD

First prize- Pavan school – Jagruti ,Sumaiya, Channarajayya.

Second prize-Dr G V Joshi Rotary English medium school- Shrinidhi, Achal, Arbaz.

Prizes were sponsored by Sankalp semiconductors pvt lmtd hubli. The first prize included a CD of science projects and a Parker pen, and the second prize included a book on Science exhibition. The prizes were distributed by Mr Anant Kulkarni representing Sankalp Semiconductors.

The event closed at 2.pm with the prize distribution, and few words of wisdom shared by the Judges and Mr Naveen Jha CEO Deshpande Foundation India.

Site Visit 2: In this visit we learn How to implement Shree Methods of Planting the Seeds. Shree Methods We should grow more Food rather then using other methods.AME Organization is guiding the farmers to develop their food grains.

Pre Cancer Screening Program at Deshpande Foundation.

Deshpande Foundation’s Hubli Champions in association with Gram Shikshan Foundation are organizing a day long Cancer Awareness and Pre-Cancer Screening Program on June 24, 2012(Sunday), from 8:00AM to 4:00PM at Deshpande Foundation, Vidyanagar, Hubli.

All age groups are encouraged to undergo Pre Cancer Screening test

The Sunday's Screening Camp will be conducted by Super Specialist panel of Doctors consisting of a surgeon, a physician, a gynecologist and an ENT specialist from Cancer Patient Aid Association, Mumbai. LIVELIHOODS VISIT FOR 5TH BATCH OF HUBLI CHAMPIONS ON 25 -03-2012

Dr.Kruthika Gutial:

The champions’ visit about livelihoods started off with brief introduction by Dr.Neelam Maheshwari , who introduced us about small Entrepreneurs. They are not only helped financially but are also trained regarding marketing skills & quality maintenance. Programs like Navodyami encourage small entrepreneurs to make it big.

Our first site visit was to SKRDS near Navnagar , which is an organisation empowering women mainly housewives in tailoring (mainly stitching skills). They receive training for a month which is not charged & then later recruited in the production unit. People hailing from nearby places are also provided with free stay and food facilities during the training period. Interaction with employees revealed they were quite satisfied with their jobs as it empowers them to support their families financially. The trainees also have chance to get trained for beauty treatment options. The shirts are provided to the market mainly by SIRI organisation.

Our next visit was to VARSHA home foods placed in Hulkoti near Gadag. Their speciality is Vrasha Kardant. Kardant is a famous sweet delicacy from Gokak. The owners, Mrs. VARSHA & Mr.Sanjeev Raddi took it as a challenge to make kardant as tasty as that available from Gokak. They have successful in this venture and doing justice to the product and which most of us felt was tastier than the original Gokak Kardant. They have also consistently maintained the excellent quality of the product (owing to the best quality of raw materials used in the making). This is mainly marketed by the distributors in Bangalore, Tumkur & nearby places. They started their venture with lot of hardships & hardly any financial backing and have succeeded in getting the product for four fruitful years now. Around 1,500 kgs of kardant is made per month & 128kilos at a time. Presently their working place is same as their residence & they do plan to extend so that they are able to meet the increasing demand for the product. Kudos to their perseverance & strong willed efforts.

After a delicious lunch at farmer’s hostel, our next visit was to Shudha Ganga project started by Aqua Safi partnered with SKRDS. Mr Satvik Sarwadae a young enthusiastic engineer briefed us on Aqua safi which is an Indian counterpart of US based H2O for harmony. Aqua safi mainly aims to provide pure and safe drinking water to rural people at an affordable price. Needless to elaborate on the state of consumable water in the rural areas of our country, the efforts made by Aqua safi tied up with NGOs is more than commendable. The unit works on the principle of reverse osmosis which removes dissolved salts (including fluoride levels which is very high in & around these districts), and softens water. The unit costs about 3 lakhs for installation & has a capacity of refining 1000litrs/hour working for 8 hrs in a day. The waste water (30%) can be used for gardening / cleaning but not for agricultural purposes. The villagers are charged a nominal of 20paisa / litre & can access water at fixed timings in the day. They can procure water in cans provided. The villagers need to register to get the benefit regularly and non frequent users will be charged slightly higher only encourage them use it regularly. The system to be installed needs a fixed source like a lake/ bore well for constant use. The maintenance is completely taken care by aquasafi, 1st year being free of cost & subsequently being charged 60,000 annually. The unit of 1000litre capacity can cater to the needs of 250 families in a village. A report of the efficiency of the unit is maintained and the quality of output water is regularly sent for testing. The most impressive part of Aqua safi is that it tries to reach out to villages which are difficult access.

We concluded our wonderful day expressing our views & suggestions regarding our visits. For SKRDS we expressed our concern regarding the possible postural problems which the employees may encounter in the long run & the need to take preventive measures. We also emphasised the on increasing the outlets for their products so that more people can be benefitted. About Varsha Kardant , all of us were impressed by their hard work & never let go attitude. Surprisingly their product is not available in & around hubli Dharwad. We opined that they need to expand so that they can cater to the remaining 98% of state of which is not covered. They also need to improvise on marketing skills so that they need not have to turn down offers when there is more demand during festival season. Regarding Aqua safi we did not have much to suggest except for our admiration. We felt that a smaller version possibly could cater to the needs of small localities like slum areas in urban areas as well. Mr Satvik responded that this has already been taken up as a pilot project in a place in Mumbai.

Overall the day kick started well and we all were amazed, happy and full of appreciations for the efforts at different sites. The effort to bridge the gap between producer and consumer is almost made up and we only had to add few suggestions and modifications. It was a true inspiration for all of us to make sustainable strong valid efforts.

On Tuesday, 21st February, 2012 Deshapande Foundation Champions participated in Education site visit from 6:30AM to 5:00PM to Akshyapathra, Baala Balaga, Shikshana, Agastya Foundation and understanding about English Helper then they had group discussion and also interaction with Mr.Naveen Jha.

Akshaya Patra: “Root cause of all the problem is Hunger”. So they stared Mid-day Meal Program in Hubli to Feeding schools children. The Methodology of producing mass food in short time is really innovative.

Baala Balaga: “Back to Basics” Homely and open environment to interact and learn.

Shikshana: This is unique way to bridge the gap between Rural and Urban education methods by reaching the masses at root level through providing materials, suggestions and ideas to Government as well as Aided schools and without disturbing Government schedules.

English Help: It is a softer ware to Learn English in easy way.

This is the first visit about Education for the 5th batch. Champions are very happy regarding NGOs where they visited.

Dr.Kruthika received her MDS from SDM college of Dental Science and Hospital, Dharwad, and BDS from Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere. She has 4 years of experience and she working as an assistant professor SDM in dental college. Kruthika published 12 publications in indexed national and international journals including oral surgery, medicine, pathology, endodontology and odontlogy. She has been published in the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacsurg, Dental Update of Dentistry, Indian Journal of Cancer, Journal of Californian Dental Association. She is a member of the India Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology and the Indian Dental Association.

Ms. Renuka Ahigeri completed her M.A from K.U.D College as well as a B.ED from Bagalore University. She currently works as a Marketing Manager at Ultra Solar System. Ms. Ahiger joined the Hubli Champions Program to share her experiences and exchange ideas with the local community.

MR.SESHGIRI B KULKARNI:

Sheshgiri B. Kulkarni is a chartered accountant, who has been a consulting and visiting faculty member for various institutes and colleges for the past 15 years. He deals with subjects such as: Financial Accounting, Financial Management, Direct Taxes, Corporate Laws, Management Accounting and Quantitative Techniques. Current positions have included Faculty Head of the Department in Coaching Classes of ICAI in Hubli for the past ten years.

Mr.Kulkarni previous professional work has included Secretary of the Hubli Branch of SIRC of ICAI 2004-05, which was awarded the Highly Commended Certificate at All India Level. He was the Vice-Chairman of the Hubli Branch of ICAI in 2005-06, during which the Branch was awarded as Best Branch in India.

Interaction of Hubli Champions with Shri Narayana Murthy

Mr. Narayana Murthy interacted with the Hubli Champions as a part of the Development Dialogue-2012, being organized by the Deshpande Foundation at Hotel Naveen on 14th Jan at 7:30PM.

After being briefed about the activities and the Champions Program, in which professionals from diverse fields are oriented about local problems, Mr. Murthy said there was a great need to institutionalize processes towards social development while working with local governance.

He said that there is a need for discipline to be inculcated right from school days so that our citizens of tomorrow are a more responsible towards the society. Mr Gururaj Deshpande also addressed the gathering and mentioned that the only constant in Society is the local residents. Elected representatives keep changing, Bureaucrats come and go, but the citizens, who are permanent, need to take the main initiative towards civic awareness and related issues.

Mr. Darpan Jain, DC, also participated in this meeting and emphasized that there are a lot of avenues for Citizens groups such as the Champions and promised to collaborate on issues that the Champions have already taken up.

Dr.Shivananda Kembhavi:

Dr. Shivanand Kembhavi is an ayurvedic practioner and Assistant Professor at S.S. Ayurvedic Medical College in Haveri. As a result of the confidence, ideas and inspiration he gained through his participation in Deshpande Foundation’s Champions Program, Dr. Shivanand recently launched an education-based health awareness campaign. This campaign promotes preventive health measures and a public that is well-informed about proper healthcare practices for addressing a range of illnesses and ailments. Dr. Shivanand’s campaign also works to reduce the incidence of medical maltreatment in the Sandbox, and aims to shift the public’s attention towards how and where to seek appropriate care. Dr. Shivanand has conducted several awareness events since his campaign’s inauguration in September 2010, and the scale and popularity of his efforts continue to quickly grow.

Introduction to Dr. Shivanand and the Champions Program

Dr. Shivanand Kembhavi is an Assistant Professor at S.S. Ayurvedic Medical College in Haveri town. He has presented scientific papers at several international and national seminars, and received the award for Best Scientific Paper at a national-level seminar at Banaras Hindu University. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Shivanand runs an ayurvedic practice at Amar Krupa Hospital in Haveri. He has participated in delivering numerous free rural heath check-up camps in the Sandbox, and continues to perform pro-bono surgeries for poor and disadvantaged patients.

In January 2010, Dr. Shivanand joined Deshpande Foundation’s Champions Program. This program regards young professionals as a critical component of the entrepreneurial ecosystem that Deshpande Foundation has cultivated in the Sandbox, and uses a variety of methods to transform these professionals into action-oriented leaders and agents of change. These methods include directly exposing Champions to grassroots activity in the health, agriculture, education, livelihoods, and social entrepreneurship sectors; fostering interaction and networking opportunities among dynamic, socially-minded young professionals; and enabling personal and professional development through field visits, classroom learning, leadership activities and access to renowned guest speakers.

Ideas and Inspiration:

Prior to joining the Champions Program, Dr. Shivanand was well aware of the scope of the health challenges in his local community. His academic and professional background had provided him with in-depth exposure to these challenges, particularly the dearth of knowledge regarding preventive health measures and the prevalence of inappropriate and mismanaged medical care. In December 2007, Dr. Shivanand attended a Continuing Medical Education program at the Karnataka Institute of Medical

Ayurveda is a form of traditional medicine native to India that is now practiced around the world. It is grounded in metaphysics, and places primacy on ensuring balanced, healthy living throughout all phases of life. Ayurveda incorporates certain surgeries and exercises, as well as yoga, meditation and massage, and promotes addressing mind, body and spirit/consciousness both individually and in unison in order for good health to ensue.

Pranayama is a technical term used in yoga that refers to breath regulation and control.

Sciences (KIMS), during which practitioners of various types of medicine – allopathy, homeopathy, ayurveda, and so on – discussed the limitations of their medical fields. While Dr. Shivanand appreciated the openness and honesty practiced at this doctors-only event, he knew that in practice these doctors and others would continue to inaccurately promote their field of medicine as superior to all others and as capable of curing all ailments. Furthermore, he knew that these doctors would continue to prescribe inappropriate remedies to patients rather than direct them to a more suitable doctor working in a different area of medicine. This would result in a general public increasingly misinformed about proper healthcare practices, as well as a high amount of medical maltreatment.

Dr. Shivanand had long desired to launch an educational health awareness campaign to help mitigate these circumstances, but felt uncertain about how to transform his idea into a successful reality. Even more, he lacked the confidence to take action. In search of guidance, he applied to become a member of the second cohort of the Champions Program. Despite the three-hour weekly commute participating in this program would require of Dr. Shivanand, he viewed it as an invaluable opportunity to learn and collaborate with all types of professionals and leaders working in the Sandbox. He explains, “I didn’t want to take any chances. I had an idea in my mind, and it was big. If I’m going to do something big, I want to do it right, in a proper way. I thought the Champions Program would help guide me in the right direction.”

Dr. Shivanand emphasizes three key events that emboldened him to take action and launch his health awareness campaign. The first was an informal discussion he had with Dr. Gururaj Deshpande during the graduation of the first cohort of the Champions Program. Dr. Shivanand lamented the growing popularity of television personalities who falsely claim that yoga and pranayama can completely cure ailments such as malignant cancer and advanced diabetes, and in doing so essentially lead a worrying misinformation campaign. Dr. Shivanand recalls that Dr. Deshpande quickly agreed that this was a serious problem, and asked Dr. Shivanand what his plans were to address it. Dr. Deshpande’s immediate interest in the issue motivated Dr. Shivanand, he says, “not just to take action, but to get results, so that later I would have something concrete to update him [Dr. Deshpande] about.”

Once Dr. Shivanand became a member of the Champions Program, the NGO site visits he participated in built upon this initial source of inspiration and encouragement. At the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), he observed the methods the organization used to popularize modern family planning methods in the local community. At Samarthanam, he witnessed the effectiveness of their paper bags project, which aims to reduce the local community’s use of plastic. All across different sectors, Dr. Shivanand realized, people were working to create awareness and effect change. As he describes, “This impacted me. I realized I could do something similar in my own field of expertise. If others are doing this kind of action, why can’t I?”

Most inspirational to Dr. Shivanand was an anti-tobacco campaign held in May 2010, during which some Champions, as well as Dr. Deshpande, local officials and Deshpande Foundation Fellows rallied in the streets to create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco use. Before this event, Dr. Shivanand recalls, “I had an inferiority complex that was keeping me from launching my health awareness campaign. Would people listen to me? Would they accept what I was saying? Lack of confidence was definitely there. But these people in the [anti-tobacco] rally were not afraid – they were on the roads, in front of everyone! They were trying to catch the attention of so many people. And I thought, if they can do this

on the roads of Hubli, then definitely I can be confident launching my health campaign in Haveri classrooms.”

Becoming an Agent of Change

Dr. Shivanand is a member of the Haveri branch of Junior Chamber International, a federation of leaders and entrepreneurs that aims to provide opportunities to young citizens and enable them to create positive change. Dr. Shivanand publicized his idea for a health awareness campaign among his Junior Chamber peers, and one of them, a teacher at a local government high school, invited him to launch the program at his school.

Since that inaugural event in September 2010, Dr. Shivanand has conducted seven more health awareness sessions in high schools and colleges in Haveri district. Many of Dr. Shivanand’s patients are teachers, and through word-of-mouth he has been able to build up a strong network of contacts that support and help facilitate his campaign. Dr. Shivanand’s decision to launch his campaign in a classroom setting is highly intentional, as he is aware that, particularly in rural areas, teachers serve as key points of guidance. “If I can educate the teachers well,” he explains, “I can create a high level of change.”

On average, Dr. Shivanand speaks to 100-150 students and 20-25 teachers at each event. At these events, he emphasizes key preventive health measures to adhere to and bad health habits to avoid. Additionally, at every session Dr. Shivanand clears doubts and addresses myths about what type of medicine to use depending on the ailment or disease in question. Dr. Shivanand integrates a host of examples from his own professional experience to get his points across, describing patients who spend inordinate amounts of time and money getting advice from negligent doctors working in a field ill-equipped to address the patient’s condition – a habit that leads to unsafe and at times unnecessarily fatal results. Dr. Shivanand also educates session participants in the importance of adhering to proper drug dosages, rather than self-medicating, under-dosing or over-dosing.

In every aspect of his health awareness campaign Dr. Shivanand strives to bring a new approach to an old problem. Indeed, this is one of the reasons he chose to take his advice out of the hospital and into the classroom: “If I say the same things in my clinic people will think I’m just a doctor being selfish and trying to prescribe them so many things. In a classroom setting, speaking to many people, welcoming people to freely ask questions – and they ask many! – the attitude is different and people are more receptive,” Dr. Shivanand explains. His approach also stands out due to his willingness to openly critique the field of ayurveda and acknowledge its limitations – a characteristic Dr. Shivanand notes is highly uncommon in his field. Rather than promote himself, his branch of medicine or his hospital, Dr. Shivanand utilizes a more humble and egalitarian method, discussing all fields of medicine using objectivity and fact. This approach has earned him respect and credibility, and has helped to quickly publicize his health awareness campaign across Haveri district.

In the immediate future, Dr. Shivanand wants to scale up the number of health awareness events he conducts, and to tailor them for specific groups. Based on the recommendation of one teacher, for example, he plans to starting holding sessions for female students only. He has also held initial conversations with members of local clubs and groups including the Merchants Association, Rotary, and LIONS, all who have expressed interest in hosting Dr. Shivanand for a health awareness event. Private sector organizations such as Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) have also expressed interest in hosting Dr. Shivanand for lunchtime sessions. It is Dr. Shivanand’s hope that as his campaign expands an informed.

On Sunday, 12th of June, 2011 DCSE Champions participated in “Social Entrepreneurship” module from 10:00 am to 3:00pm at Deshpande Foundation Hubli. 4 young entrepreneurs shared their experience and organization activities with Hubli Dharwad Champions.

Ms. Sharavani launched and runs Safe Hands 24Х7. She proved security employment opportunity and housing keeping for low-income people. It is going on Deshpande Foundation campus Hubli.

Mr. Sikander is an Entrepreneur in the field of rain water harvesting. His organization called Sankalpa Rural Development (SRDS). Mr. Sikander wants to create knowledge regarding the importance of rain water & implement rainwater harvesting models in the society by promoting house hold and organization services.

Afforest and Kardi tales have shared their activities of the organization what they are doing in the society.

Afforest- Mr. Manoj has shared about Afforest organization activities what they are doing presently. They seek to save last great forests on earth by preserving the plants.

Kardi Tales- Mr. Rajive has talked regarding “Kardi tales Activities” how they are doing with students and teachers of privet schools. Learn by watching and doing. Students can easily learn through this method without any burden.

This is the last module for Hubli and Dharwad Champions. Now they have to focus on capstone projects.

On the 24th of August 2011, Deshpande Foundation organized a visit for Champions to various NGOs working in Hubli and Dharwad. Champions have visited Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement at Dharwad. Mr. Chandrashekhar, Program Coordinator of SVYM, presented about YES projects and how they work with youths to help them change themselves and their community. We have visited to Upin betta to meet YVYM Leaders at Dharwad .

Mr.Naveen Jha spoke about youths taking initiative in their lives. A LEAD student also shared her own experiences.

SVYM- The Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement’s (SVYM) (WWW.svym.net). It’s mainly focusing on sustainable youth action for education and sanitation (YES-Youth, Education and sanitation). This is the Nation building program through youths and encouraging the women in the YES project. SVYM is giving training for youths under YES project, which is called youth Development training program for youths. Youth motivated form that program so now they are working in their village for development.

LEAD- Lead-DCSE is offering students an opportunity to make a change in the word today. LEADers do have the opportunity to network with successful social entrepreneurs. Lead program is a providing path to youths who have unique ideas to do something for the society.

Champions are very happy with both DCSE Leaders and SVYM youth. Their work is really amazing and appreciated.

Livelihood Visit To Haveri

We (Champions) visited Haveri on 27th of March to see organizations working to improve the livelihoods of people. We could visit three such NGOs named I Create, Hand in Hand and Navachetana Foundation operating in Haveri. The day started with the presentation by Mr. Naveen Jha about Livelihood in the Sandbox at 7:30 AM.

I create: I create is creating grassroots entrepreneurs and gives training for them to start their enterprise. They are creating opportunities for women and men in rural and semi urban. The reason be hand this project stopping migrate from the villages.

Hand In Hand: Hand In Hand organization’s main aim is creating enterprises and jobs through self help groups. It is a good opportunity for low income people to start up their own businesses in the local area.

Navachetana: They shared information about milk quality and their service and also shown their dairy who they are supplying milk to customers.

Navachetana is Microfinance organization. Its non-banking finance company and its giving services that extends micro-loans to poor women who are excluded from mainstream banking services. The micro-enterprises created as a result of NMSPL loans enhance not only the livelihoods of borrowers, but also the lives of their families.

Motivational Training:

Mr. Bhaskar Bhat conducted a training program for the staff of Bhoraka Charitable Trust for on 14th of February 2011, who are working with HIV affected people at Kalghatagi. The program was conducted in BCT’s Hubli office.

The program started from 10 AM till 4:30 PM. It was about goal settings, relationship management and communication skills.

Briefing all the topics with few activities and motivating them for coming days and also projects. The goal of training the staff in the above skill sets is to help the staff coordinate with the HIV affected people very effectively.

It was a great feeling between the Champions and staff during the training program. Mr. Bhat looks forward to conducting similar programs in future.

Tree Plantation

Mr.Ankesh jain and Dr. Hema Jayade have done tree planation which is more impacts on environment as part of their capstone projects. They have implemented the projects at Government schools, Basaveshwar nagar Hubli. It is very good program to protect the environment.

The idea behind the theme-

In olden days in India every house had one tree outside their house, and it was said that one tree was sufficient to give enough oxygen to there family members, and each family was of 6 to 9 people.

One tree plantation gives oxygen to 8 people on an average. So we want to plant at least 20 trees, which will oxygen to 160 people on an average.
