Eqbal was born in a small town, Amroha India on 1st April 1946,. He grew up in a family intensely deep-rooted in the arts, Eqbal had a love for drawing from his father, Syed Mir. When he was at the age of 8, he drew a picture on a wall with a piece of charcoal, stolen from his mother's stove. During moharram, he used to create small masterpieces on the white washed walls of Amroha's Imam Bargah with charcoal. Since this early age, Eqbal's overwhelming drive to externalize his inner frenzy can only be linked to an all encompassing obsession. One day, while bound for a cricket match, eqbal encountered a carpter-weaver, who observed the fine drawing of deer in his hand. A price of 2 annas was agreed upon and Eqbal made his very first un official sale, Like a bullet, the lad dashed to purchase eight sheets of drawing paper with the money. At this age, Eqbal discovered what was to later become the mainstay of his existence.

As time went by, it became visibly apparent to the young artist that art was his vocation in life, a domain where he could find peace and solace. Eqbal chose to move to Karachi Pakistan. While staying with his uncle, he traveled to Iran and met a gentleman lala rasheed, who on meeting Eqbal, right away saw his talent and took him in and became his patron for the next two years. During this period, the artist recalls, he may have stepped out barely four or five times since he was totally consumed by his work, which he executed with a favour and zeal never experienced by him before.

Later eqbal joined the studio of his relative, the renowned artist Sadequain. Eqbal had no formal art education at that time, only a natual talent for drawing from his early childhood. It was at this point of his life that he was introduced to the world of literature and wester aesthetics. Sadequain introduce him to Faiz Ahmed Faiz, one of the Pakistan's leading poets, who instantly hired Eqbal as an illustrator for his weekly magazine, Lail-O-Nehar. This became his first salaried job. Following this, he was assigned to work with sub-rang digest and Akhbar-e-Jehan. At the tender age of 23, Iqbal already had a prolific portfolio to his credit, which enabled him to sold his first solo exhibition at the Karachi art council in 1969. The treatment that he gives to create the different textures in his paintings had begun to carry an unmistakable stamp of his own. He reviewed the tradition of realism with his impeccable attention to detail. His large scale pieces bare evidence to his infinite patience and joy in detailing where every inch of the canvas has been given its due attention. Textures and materials have been painstakingly executed and presented in their truest form which clearly indicates the outstanding quality of his work. In addition to his oil paintings, Eqbal churns out pen and ink drawings as well as etchings on bronze, with equal ease. At the age of 34, he had produced thousands of pen sketches and hundereds of oil pentings and etchings. In his outstanding painting of a girl in white, it is amazing how he brings out the whitenessof the attire by using color, mostly blue and yellowish grey. HE never uses white paint straight out of the tube but creates it by mixing colors. The coy girlish expression, the pearly light on the half lighted face and amazingly realistic white dress of the figure, with every wrinkle hightened by a play of light adds up to make this work a masterpiece. Eqbal Mehdi consistently shows his expertise in capturing the nuances of light and shade, evoking chiaroscuroic tension to enhance the dramatic effect in the most of his paintings, especially his portraits. In the most of his works, form and space become solid realities - heavy, voluminous and tangible, like in his paintings where the solid form (woman) painted directly against the backdrop of a carpet, dominates the space. He cleverly exploits, the pattern on the carpet, using it as the background space, not allowing any depth of field. His depiction of light is so earnest, that the viewer can easily discern and perceive the subjects environment ie whether it is natural or contrived. His paintings are not enigmas, puzzles, or metaphors. He is neither a social commentator nor a chronicier or politics of his time. He has an innocent way of looking at life without pedantry and prejudice. Mehdi celebrates the heroism of daily life in his drawings and paintings. In his series of portraits of workers (both men and woman), sturdy pathans, rugged balochi men and pretty girls, he is paying a rich tribute to the multifaced face of Pakistan. Eqbal whose artistic career was initiated with pen and charcoal sketches, began to use color only in 1985 and has managed to excel in whatever medium he has dabbed with. Whether it is paper, canvas or bronze, Mehdi's mastery in all three materials is amply evident in his work spread over a span of almost five decades. Eqbal's paintings adorn the walls of palaces, President's house and important public and private buildings in several countries of the world. Moreover, Mehdi has the unique distinction of being the first muslim painter to have his work exhibited in the prestigious Rembrandt Gallery in Munich, Germany. Eqbal Mehdi has the privilege of being honoured in the lifetime by being presented with Pakistan's Pride of Performance Award for his monumental achievments in 1988. Hailed as magician of drawings by the American Press in recent years.
Iqbal Mehdi died in Rawalpindi on May 19, 2008 after suffering from heart and liver diseases. Mehdi left behind a wife, a daughter and a son, Farhan.

She created a marvelous character of a teen girl and named her Gogi!

Nigar Nazar, the first woman cartoonist of Pakistan and conceivably the whole Muslim world, has for over 30 years rendered pictorial humor with a down to earth pragmatism. These highly expressive cartoons have provided cheer to gloomy days and attempt to beat the hypocrisy of society. This amazing cartoon character born in the ’70s from Nazar’s pen, the ageless Gogi has done the rounds of newspapers, magazines and TV channels in Pakistan and abroad. Nazar explains her as the representation of the open-minded, energetic and adventurous Pakistani woman who declined to kowtow to power and finds humor in the extremely trying of situations,

Nigar Nazar ought to have wider international recognition and support for her worthy, highly regarded and splendid work! While giving an interview she said;

“I believe Gogi teaches you to laugh at yourself in the worst of situations… When Gogi was appearing in newspapers, many women could relate to her. She was a source of amusement to her readers. I believe Gogi teaches you to laugh at yourself in the worst of situations. And we all need to do that. I have been occupied with projects and storybooks for children for the past few years, so for the time being my readers are children. It’s nice to see the impact of these books on young children, especially the book on environment called The Garbage Monster. Children in public schools will soon be receiving schoolbags with eight fun books/comic books authored by me. They will be attending workshops in which they will be entertained with animated Gogi cartoon spots, live cartoons and tips on drawing cartoons. They will also receive sketchbooks and art supplies from Gogi Studios for this purpose”.

Gogi cartoons have appeared in various newspapers, magazines and TV all around the world. Freshly her cartoons have been put on the external designs of seven buses in Pakistan. The children love it and all of them want to travel the colorful "Gogi-bus."

Raja Changez Sultan’s paintings and drawings exhibition was opened on Thursday at the Tanzara Gallery. Sultan exhibited his work including the charcoal drawing, & “Himalayan Odyssey” series. In his charcoal drawings, Sultan explores the effects of light on dark exteriors, producing different pattern and textures. His exceptional style invokes living forms with glittering areas of light emerging from within the surface of the work. In the process he discovers a magic world of seemingly moonlit naiads, evoking myths of ancient sirens and luring unsuspecting viewers to an unknown dimension. There is an element of timelessness about his work, a serenity that is all pervasive.

Sultan appears to have encapsulated light and suggests that beyond the mountains one will discover the legendary Shangri-La. Women in these paintings are shown in a fusion of colours, with vague body contours and profiles.

Compared to the blue and turquoise in his landscapes, these works mostly deal in a tone of blue and red. “Himalayan Odyssey” bears signs of years of experimentation in abstract aesthetics, and only a close examination reveals its dissolving spaces.
Sultan, who started his career as a poet, effectively links the words and images that hold him in a thrall. The opening lines of his very first poem, which, in fact, inspired his paintings titled “The Divided Soul,” read as: “When you look in a mirror, do you see your image or an image of your image, or does your image see you, or, an image of you”.
Raja Changez Sultan extends the elusive imagery of the glowing artworks with a series in his charcoal pencil drawing where alluring forms create an enigmatic division between the real and the imagined. Under his obsessive fingers, figures emerge from charcoal sweeping across the paper.
“He is a painter and poet of the highest merit and competently combines the two lofty arts,” said Noshi Qadir from Tanzara.

It seems at the ordinary when Akram Spaul brings in his still life oil paintings, a piece of furniture, a garden, washing area; infusing detail that brings it to life and brings our own routine activities into focus with stunning beauty. No doubt he is a classic super realist painter. Akram Spaul paints with delicate life like detail that explores his subject matter to life. His recent realistic oil paintings have taken him in surrealist region. Using the same modus operandi he adds components on to some canvases, like silent characters or wind, which put surrealistic gloominess to his works. However his main focus area remains a festivity of objects and achievements that define our daily lives. Recently Akram was also part of Art auction at KOEL GALLERY for flood-relief fund-raising, 16-19 August 2010. On August 9th, Koel Gallery appealed to the artist community to donate one work of art for auction at the Gallery. The response by artists in Pakistan and abroad has been overwhelming. 88 artists generously donated one or more of their work resulting in 100 being displayed at Koel Gallery, and online.
In general we can say that modern art has been about destroying the illusionist idea of the picture as a window on reality, it was in the late 1960s and 70s that super realism art made its appearance in the United States as a rebellion against the emotional excesses of Pollock and de Kooning et al. So, in this sense, Akram’s work has similar pretensions to extreme objectivity. Many of his pictures are remarkable for their spotless execution.

Abdul Rehman Chughtai & His Paintings

Abdur Rehman Chughtai was born on the 21st of September 1899 in the historical city of Lahore. He spent his childhood in at Mohalla Chabuk Sawaran of Lahore. He was from a well reputed family which for generations has produced engineers, architects, painters and designers.

He completed his early education at the Chiney-Wali mosque in Lahore and then took admission in the Technical Railway School. Chugtai went on to study both in the sub-continent and abroad. He also studied at the well known Mayo School of Art, Lahore which is now known as the National College of Arts. His individual style was formed in the years before 1947, so the main body of his work was produced before Pakistan was born: Persian and Mongol Traditional Style. At Lahore's Mayo School of Art, Chughtai emphasized crafts more than art. He did not stay there very long and started learning on his own, concentrating on the traditional methods and techniques of Mongol artists. Then, he moved on to Calcutta and worked there foe several years, painting in Bengal School Style. He also studied under Abanindranath Tagore and Printmaking in London. He was also Head-instructor in Chromo-Lithography at the Mayo School of Art, Lahore.

In aligning himself with the restoration spirit of the New Bengal School, he acquired inspiration from the "Naqsh" and Mughal Miniature and other patterns of the Islamic cultural arts.
About his painting. Chughtai writes,
"These humble creations are redolent of those old days when we were making efforts to live and dream with the brethren of this land...this background of my art should not be lost sight of." "Muraqqa-e-Chughai" is a rare publication in which Chughtai transformed the poetry of great Urdu poet Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib with his brilliant skilful strokes and elegant art-work.
Here the heights of literature seems to have been transformed into a the finest piece of art, specially the unparalleled water-colours of Chughtai. The verses of Ghalib and their illustrations by Chughtai provide a symmetrical effect. Perhaps no one else could have done justice to Ghalib's poetry other than Chughtai - in fact no one ever dared.

Chughtai exhibited with the Punjab Fine Art Society, Lahore (1920) and the Indian School of Oriental Art during the 1920s. During the late 1930s, Chughtai's work contributed greatly to the energetic modern art scene that was burgeoning in pre-partition Lahore.
By 1923, when he was only 24, at that time he was able to start creating his unique style of drawing luscious, languid, narcissus-eyes and stylized figures with erotic overtones and heavy with fictional contents.
He also introduced him to some of Western art techniques, chiefly as practiced by Victorian artists, and to the cave painting of Ajanta, which were then in process of being re-discovered by contemporary painters.
It was in formative phase of his career that Chughtai imbibed certain stylization and mannerism, including extensive use of architectural motifs and pictorial nuances, which mark his illustrational paintings of this period.

In 1927, Chughtai published Muraqqa, his first major work, which comprised a series of illustrations he made for new edition of the thought-heavy and highly imaginative verses of Ghalib, 19th century " poet's poet" of Urdu and Persian.
Early in the thirties Chughtai visited Europe, researching on painting; also did a few years later.
Talking of water colours and name of Abdul Rehman Chughtai would be the first one would come to forth and perhaps the only one. His paintings are so close to reality with natural colours that one is simply spell bound and lost into the beautiful colours and brush strokes.
Chughtai also designed a number of postage stamps of Pakistan from 1949 to 1960s.On the independence day of 1951, he produced a set of 9 stamps, internationally known as Chughtai Art set, was considered as the most beautiful stamps of the world at that time. Abdul Rehman Chughtai died in 1975.
His style of Wash on paper technique acquired much popularity. Some of Chughtai's paintings were made several times but most of the paintings which were made only once.
Abdul Rehman achieved much fame and acclaim during his life time.
He died at his birth place, Lahore, on January 17 1975.

Pop Star Ali Zafar Picks Up the Brush after 7 Years for Flood Victims

The alumni association of the College of Art and Design is arranging a national exhibition of paintings and graphic arts at the Alhamra Art Galleries in Lahore on September 20, featuring over a hundred Pakistani artists, including Anna Molka Ahmad, Saeed Akhtar, Dr Rahat Naveed and Salima Hashmi. The income will be utilized for the rehabilitation of people affected by the recent deadliest floods in Pakistan. The exhibition will travel to other cities like Islamabad, Faisalabad and Karachi.

In this elite crowd of famous artists, is Zafar and his son. Ali Zafar, who debuted in Tere Bin Laden, has been pianting since he was a child and has a degree in fine arts. At 18, he started doing 20-minute charcoal portraits in a hotel lobby. He sold them for Rs 500 a piece to raise money for his music albums and videos.
Tere Bin LadenTitanic had just released. Some women would hint for a painting like the one Leonardo DiCaprio makes for Kate Winslet. One of them was his wife, whom he later painted in acrylic.

“After I graduated, I stopped selling my works. Once I got busy with music, I stopped painting. I picked up the brush after seven years when my father asked me to be a part of this exhibition,” says Zafar. “For the last two days, he’s been trying to figure out what to paint.”
He’s also arranging fund-raising concerts in October for which he plans to rope in international and Bollywood artistes. Talking about Pakistan’s biggest disaster, he informs that many areas will have to be reconstructed: “People have to be provided with food, homes and medicines as diseases break out. It’s a long-term commitment, I’ll do my bit.”

The 6th Illustrative- international festival for graphic arts and contemporary illustration, will take place in Berlin in May 2011. Artists from all over the world can now apply for the competition. Until October 22nd, 2010 they can submit their art works to participate in Swatch Young Illustrators Award. On November 5th, 2010 the nominees will be awarded in advance and invited to the “Illustrators Night”, a celebration at Direktorenhaus in Berlin. The Swatch Young Illustrators Award is an unique competition awarding creativity and innovation in personal contemporary illustration and graphics. The award encourages and supports designers in their artistic practice and offers an international and worldwide recognized platform for them.
CATEGORIES
In three categories, illustrative art works, art projects with graphic influences, animations, installations and book art objects qualify for submission. A jury, consisting of international art directors, well-known illustrators and publishers, will nominate artists in each category in October 2010. At Direktorenhaus in Berlin, the “Illustrators Night” will take place on November 5th, where the nominations will be celebrated with an exhibition and a party.

PRIZE

The Swatch Young Illustrators Award offers the winners not only the opportunity to be part of Illustrative in May 2011 in Berlin. Also, there are prizes waiting worth 6.000 Euros, publications and agency agreements as well as the one-time opportunity to design a limited edition for Swatch.

Illustrative is an international forum for contemporary illustration and graphic arts. The exhibition displays an inspiring collection of fresh illustration and graphic art showcasing over 600 works from more than 60 artists. Over the course of two weeks, the festival celebrates the illustrative arts, presents new talents and trends, exchanges ideas, marvels at progressive technologies, and rediscovers forgotten styles.

Furthermore Illustrative yearly assigns awards for excellent illustration and animation projects. With international exhibitions in museums and galleries, Illustrative gives visibility to unconventional and innovative art projects that go beyond the mainstream.

Illustrative does not only show the latest graphic arts’ quality and imagination, but also how visual influences of graphic arts, illustration, book arts, comic, concept art or animated graphics are breaking into and have an impact on the field of art.

Since its inception in 2006, Illustrative has been taking place once in Paris (2007), once in Zurich (2008), and three times in Berlin (2006/2007/2009). In order to ensure that the exhibition meets the contemporary pulse, all art works are reviewed by a curatorial committee under the direction of Berlin based curator Pascal Johanssen. As an independent non-profit organization, Illustrative is also the publisher of the art magazine “Objects: Journal of Applied Arts”, which analyzes innovations in the area of applied arts. Since spring 2010, Illustrative has moved to its headquarters in “Direktorenhaus”, a new art space in Berlin.

To fully register, you will be asked to pay a submission fee of EUR 30 (48 $) for administration purposes. Only on receipt of payment your registration will be completed. Nusra Latif's Miniature and Mughal Art Paintings

Pakistani Artist Nusra Latif Qureshi has worked on large number of paintings where in Mughal era is her subject. In response to a question, she explains that she uses Mughal Characters for commenting on political and historical events and issues. In one of her painting she indicate a sign towards British Viceroy and then Iraq ’s present condition. Politics and fudal system are also her main subjects. Once she was asked that in many of her paintings, mughal rualars are shown as having love affairs. In response she explains that the relationship between men and women in those paintings are like political relation which is like Power Play of todays politics. She has researched on British era of sub continent, that what we lost and what we achieved. She says, the things we lost, are our culture, heritage, our clothes even our land and all of it, is available in her painting.

She is also among those new miniature artists of National College of Arts, who are using old style of miniature art.
The layers utilized in her work indicate a layering of distinctiveness, to the past where the roots of identity lie and to the present, which marks her movements. She thinks that her presence as a woman, as an Asian, as a Muslim, as a migrant, as an ex-colonised, as a dark skinned individual and as a painter determine the course of images she make.
Nusra was awarded 2002 Julian Burnside award. Her paintings are exhibited at;

This survey was conducted among those ladies who are mostly highly educated and are presently working as professionals in their respective fields. Survey was quite interesting. When question was raised why they do Scarf or Hijab or under what circumstance they started doing scarf. Some of the answers are as below;

One beatiful lady who is presently working in an american IT firm as a IT specialist says: that while doing scarf its like having recognition. I feel more confidence and power within myself.Another woman says that I love fashion and still I am, but Hijab has given elegance in my style, what I was lacking before and I always felt that. Painting of Benazir Bhutto By Rizwan Ali Umrani

An artist from Sindh Pakistan , recalls eve of 27th December, when major cities of Pakistan were bleeding and burning after Muhterma Benazir Bhutto’s Killing in a suicide attack. Rizwan is an abstract artist, painted a picture where red colors were dominating and through lines the face which came up was Benazir Bhutto Pakistan . Rizwan has made his own gallery in the memory of his mother and says that he usually does not make portraits, but this exceptional painting he did not make intentionally. According to him, images of Benazir Bhutto were stored in his unconscious.

Rizwan explains the background about making of benzir's painting that, when people were setting on fire the vehicles and building in the different cities to show their anger, after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. Rizwan closed the door of his gallery and had put colors on canvas to show his anger. Because he was angry too, over benazir's killing. Rizwan says, he did not know, what he is going to paint and red color was dominating in his artwork, in that bloody eve. When life started settling down in the city and when he showed the painting to one of his friend says, you have painted Benazir bhutto.

Important thing to note in the painting is that red color is overlapping on all other colors but in all this, Benazir bhutto eyes are open which means she is still alive today. Rizwan is one of those artists, who did not study the fine arts, formally but have developed a place for them like a teacher, after years of hardwork and practice. His first exhibition was held in Pakistan National Council of Arts Islamabad where Benazir Bhutto inaugurated the exhibition. Another of his exhibition was inaugurated by Faiz ahmed faiz's wife in 1996. His painting exhibitions are also held in other cities like Hyderabad Karachi and Larkana. Rizwan is very close to his mother that is why he prefer to be called as Rizwan Ali Umrani instead using his father's cast Mangi. In his mother's memory he has established a gallery "Mother Gallery" where he is working right now. Rizwan does not participate in political functions in Larkana but according to him, no one can snatch Benazir's memories from his mind. Surprisingly he has still not visited Benazir's Mazar in Garhi Khuda Bakhs which is just 20 Kms away because he hates to show off his tears, for photo sessions.

Recently, One week paintings exhibition artist Rizwan Ali Umrani was organized by the Institute of Art and Design University of Sindh at Benazir Bhutto Gallery. Mr. Haleem Brohi an renowned comic writer and columnist inaugurated the exhibition. The exhibition was attended by a large number students and teachers from different institutes and departments.
About Rizwn Mr Brohi says that Rizwan has produced amazing paintings with diversity by advocating society and man and woman. His paintings reflect the pain and dilemma but on the other hand it also raises hope to the society.

Mr. Rizwan speaking on the occasion said that art is created by feeling pain and added that controversy in the art will help in creativity more. Referring views of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto about his paintings, Rizwan says that his paintings always reflect the mode of the society.

Saeed Akhtar is also known for his famous Portrait Painting of Qaudi-e-Azam Muhamad Ali Jinnah, about which Naazish Ata-Ullah who is Principal at NCA, says that he was one of the God gifted genius artists ever produced by the college and had brought a good name for the college. She said, “Whenever we see the National Assembly on television, our eyes go straight to the portrait of Quaid-e-Azam painted by Akhtar, which always makes us proud.”

Nayyar Ali Dada who is well known architect compares Saeed with legendary painter Michelangelo and states that both have two things in common. “Like Michelangelo, Akhtar has perfection in drawing and breaks a lot of things when he’s angry, just like Michelangelo used to”.

An exhibition of artworks by over 100 artists to raise funds for the affectees of the recent floods in Pakistan, is scheduled to be held from Sep 4, 2010 to Sep 10, 2010. According to Sanjh Spokesperson 100% of proceeds from the sale of artworks will be donated to the flood relief effort fund of Pakistan Red Crescent Society. The prices of artworks are reduced by 60 percent (or more). They have also invited Collectors and Art Enthusiasts for worthwhile acquisitions. ‘Sanjh’ is a collective effort of artists to raise funds for relief of flood affectees, initiated by Zahraa Assad Saifullah and Zahra Mirza of RetroArts in collaboration with Foaad Nizam of Art Website Danka and Visual Artists, Imran Ahmed Khan, Sajjad Ahmed and Usman Saeed.

Amazing Akiane's sketches at age of 4

Akiane started sketching when she was just 4 years old. She sketched hundreds of figures and portraits on whatever material or place she found, including windows, walls, books, furniture etc. She drew different posture from her imagination and inspiration. Sometimes she used to draw while keeping her eyes closed. Akiane was greatly inspired by faces, and she used to sit and focus on drawing, erasing and shading different features and emotions in detail again and again. In the beginning when started doing drawing on walls and was scolded by her parents, she changed the canvas from walls to Bottom of the tables so that no one disturbs her. 2nd phase was the time, when she started doing portrait sketches on wall, of her family, her friends and faces that she saw in her dreams. At this point she didn't work with colors, she asked only for lead pencils and charcoal.

Whenever Akiane drew portrait, she always wanted to have perfection in it. She has a great sense, for reading faces. Once Akiane sketched a portrait of a woman who was looking very happy, she sketched her portrait with a very sad expression. Upon seeing the picture, the woman was unable to control over her tears, and admitted that her smiley face was not real, infact she was sad from inside, for she had just lost her only son.

Akiane mother told, that once she participated in a drawing contest at the age of six. The jury did not believe that the drawings she submitted are made by Akiane.

Akiane has lived in Illinois, Missouri, Colorado and Idaho. Her experience of poverty and affluence has made her more sensitive artist who is more close to religion. Her life's goal is to share her love for God and people around the world.

The Light - Portraits of the 'Hibakusha'

At 00.15am on the 6th August 2010 in London, when this exhibition was started, 65 years back, at 08.15am it was Hiroshima when Little Boy’ was dropped. The exhibition of the 65 Hibakusha portrait paintings are displayed and it will last for 65 days, one for each year since the bombs were dropped on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. All paintings have detailed description of each subject’s unforgettable recollection of exactly how they were able to survive and be found after the bombing.
Aims of this exhibition are not just displaying paintings but are reminders of the penalties of our wrong doings and the horrible things we had chosen for one another. According to Young and Edwards (2005), after the hiroshima bombing, any humans that survived the initial blast were suffering from radiation exposure. Forty-five percent of 280,000 people who survived the exposure were still alive, sixty years later, and become part of the largest study ever to be conducted for the long-term effects of radiation poisoning. The study resulted in many upsetting findings.
Innocent Prisoners of Hiroshima
Unborn children exposed to radiation on average grow to be smaller and less intelligent than their peers, and their risk of developing leukemia peaked after ten years (Yong& Edwards, 2005). Many of the women that were pregnant at the time of the Hiroshima bombings gave birth to children with congenital malformations that were attributed to the radiation (Ohara, 2005).
One of the exhibitions aims is to remind the world of man’s inhumanity to man and for each portrait painted to remind us all that we are human with a responsibility for each other’s well being and that wars are not solutions for anything.
An accompanying day of lectures will be held on the 7th of October in the ‘ Brunei
Gallery Lecture Theatre’ with speakers from Hiroshima City University , The University
of London and Kingston University .
