[TUTORIAL] Unbrick Mini S5570 (Bricked With Black Screen)

First off I want to say I cannot guarantee this will work for you nor can I take any responsibility for damages done to your phone following this tutorial. This is my first tutorial on the forum and i would really appreciate as much feedback as possible if this worked for you and even if it did not and why.

This tutorial is to unbrick your Galaxy mini, after a bad flash where you are getting errors in odin such as “setup connection” or “Serial port” problems. I have bricked my phone 3 times with a bad firmware leaving a blank screen, unable to get into download mode, and every time I’ve received a different response with the method.

Therefore this will require alot of your time in order to make it work. And i apologize in advance for any mistake, it took me all day to do this 3 times! And all 3 times resulted in success! Anyways let’s do tha’ business

The main problem why you receive the error “setup connection” is because of a bad driver somewhere, so let’s start from scratch to ensure we get results.

Start by uninstalling the “Samsung USB” drivers and reboot your computer

Plug in the phone with battery inserted, windows may or may not play a sound.

After you plug in the phone, under “devices and printer” you will see “Samsung CDMA Technologies” with an error mark next to it.

This means windows has detected your phone, if you unplug the phone it will disappear, confirming it is no longer connected to windows.

Now with the phone still plugged in, install the drivers through Kies

After installing the drivers windows balloon will appear, click it to see more info and you should see this (Keep Kies running through out)

After that has finished installing you should then see this

Confirm all is installed by going back to device and printers and there should no longer be an error sign next to the Samsung CDMA device

After that you may or may not get an error message from Kies

Click okay, unplug the phone and close Kies, reboot your computer.

After starting up windows, plug the phone back in, windows will play a device connect sound.

Now open odin, odin will detect your phone even though you are not in download mode and should say

<1> Added!!!

<1>Detected!!!

At this point follow these steps

Step 1 – Prepare Odin with a WORKING firmware and make sure everything is ready to go

Step 2 – Remove battery, SIM card and SD card, and connect your phone if it isn’t already connected

Step 3 – Hold Volume down + Power + Home button at the same time

Step 4 – Insert the battery while holding down the above buttons

(Windows will detect your phone and start to install/configure the same drivers again wait for the drivers to finish installing)

Click start and wait for any error message All should be well now and your phone should flash back to a working firmware, but if that is not the case and you still receive “setup connection” error continue...

If this is what you got or "Setup connection" continue...

If that did not work for you, unplug your phone remove the battery and reboot your computer

Once windows has started

• Click start then right click “Computer” then go to “manage”, when the manager window open click “device manager”

• Expand the drop down menu for USB (Universal Serial bus controllers)

• Right click and uninstall “Samsung USB composite device”

• Restart your computer

After starting up windows connect back the phone and more drivers should install

Now repeat step 1 to 4

It will most likely result in the same error and if so, open Kies, while Odin is still running and install the drivers again, this window may appear

I have no idea what this means there is a driver bug somewhere here between Kies and Odin

After installing the drivers, close odin, and remove the battery, follow step 1 to 4 again

If it fails, close kies and close odin, remove the phone battery

Now open odin load the files and prepare to flash,

And repeat step 1 to 4

A driver window will pops up showing Odin being installed

As soon as the yellow box appears in Odin hit the start button!

You will then see this, in the driver box, and as you can see Odin started installing the firmware.

In order for this to work, you may have to follow the extended part of the tutorial several times

If this is what you see instead though, it's too late and you must go back to step 1

This tutorial is very complicated and I have tried to explain it as best as I can, hope it help some of you guys.

PS. If you have any USB driver problems or windows deleted problems with device managers or drivers in general causing errors you must fix these problems first or use a different computer, if the drivers wont install properly you cannot do it on that computer.

EDIT: Gingerbread 2.3.4 firmware, I can confirm this works

How to upgrade to Android 4.0.4

Android 4.0.4 for Galaxy 5

This time I come with Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Hope you are all already upgraded your galaxy to Froyo by following my earlier post. Others no worries its the time for 4.0.4. The upgradation of 4.0.4 is much easier than earlier and no more complicated steps.

Important:

This is not a official firmware from samsung like 2.2. Its created by CyanogenMod. I personally tested myself in my mobile most of the things works fine so feel free to use.

Requirements:

A windows PC
USB cable
Samsung Galaxy 5 (GT-I5503) mobile

Download the below files.

ODIN – S5570_Odin_Multi_Downloader_v4.38.exe

OPS file – EUROPA_v1.0.ops

ClockworkMod Recovery – recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-galaxy5.tar

Firmware 4.0.4 – update-cm-9-20120608-MADTEAM-galaxy5-signed.zip

Google apps – gapps-ics-small-20120429.zip

Before start Backup your contacts and everything. Because Upgrade will delete everything from your mobile not from sd card. There are two phase

Boot your mobile in recovery mode
Install firmware and Google Apps

Clockworkmod Recovery:

For this you need ODIN and recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-galaxy5.tar.

How to Downloading mode

Steps:

Copy Firmware and Google Apps files to your sd card. We will use that in next phase.
Power off your mobile and Start your mobile in downloading mode. For that Press Volume Down + Home Button [Center Button] + Power Button.
Run that ODIN exe.
Connect to USB. Now ODIN detected your mobile in COM port.
Check the “One Package” Check box and Check all boxes in Options.
Select your OPS File.
Select recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-galaxy5.tar
Press Start button

ODIN for recovery

Now your mobile is automatically restart. It will show you a recovery screen. Phase 2 starts

Install Firmware and Google Apps:

Steps:

Cleanup
- Center button to select an option. Arrow keys for move up and down
- Select wipe data/factory reset
- A new screen will come. Press / Select yes.
- Back to main menu [press back button]
- Select Advanced
- Select Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Press Yes
- Select Wipe Battery Stats
- Press Yes
- Back to main menu
Install Firmware
- Select Install zip from sd card
- Select Choose a zip file
- Select update-cm-9-20120608-MADTEAM-galaxy5-signed.zip from your sd card.
- Press yes
Install Google Apps
- Again Select Install zip from sd card
- Select Choose a zip file
- Select gapps-ics-small-20120429.zip from your sd card
- Press yes
Final
- Important. Select Wipe cache partition
- Press yes
- Back to main menu
- Select reboot system now.
You are done… First time boot takes more time. So Don’t Panic

FAQ:

Most of the default applications are not available..?

Yes. Most common application like Gmail, Maps, youtube are not there. You need to download and install from market.

I want to root my phone..?

No need. By default its rooted

After upgraded FM is not working..?

This is a bug in this firmware.

How to install recovery?

From download link below, you'll get a 'recovery.img' file. Put that recovery.img file at root directory of your sdcard. (means not in any folder)
Now, go to terminal emulator.
Give command:

su

You'll be asked to grant superuser permissions, grant it.
Now, give the following command:

  flash_image recoveryonly /sdcard/recovery.img

Wait until it executes the command (4-5 seconds), it is installing the recovery.
Now, normally reboot to recovery and enjoy new recovery!

CyanogenMod 7.2.0+ Galaxy5 Port

News: The galaxy5 device is now officially supported within the CyanogenMod project - I am the device maintainer. This means that in future, you may see future release or weekly builds for the 7.x branch on the CyanogenMod website.

Even though I am an official CyanogenMod developer, you should not consider the builds that I release here as official. I have applied several patches to fix minor issues that are not yet part of the official CyanogenMod code (such as FM radio popping, camera crash on zoom, etc.).

Hey folks,

This is a port of CyanogenMod 7.2.0-RC2+, a community-developed Android ROM based on Gingerbread 2.3.7, for the Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500 (Europa) phone. The current port status is stable - most hardware is working correctly, but see post #2 for known issues.

Special thanks to Motafoca for starting CyanogenMod development, OuNao for the fake dual-touch module, sensor work and general assistance, DSM for (re)writing the EuropaParts settings app, DrMacinyasha for the hosting, mikereidis (author of Spirit FM Radio app) for helping with FM audio issues, and of course, thanks to all of you for testing!

Pre-requisites:

Visit the Basebands thread and make sure that you are using a baseband that is recommended for CyanogenMod. If you are still using an Eclair ROM, you must update your baseband or you will experience boot loops.
Visit the ClockworkMod thread and install the latest ClockworkMod build via Odin.
Install the GooManager application from the Google Play store.

Installation (updating from older CM7 build):

Open the GooManager application.
Select the Check for rom updates option.
Click on the notification for the available update and then click the Download button.
When the download finishes, enter recovery and install the update package followed by the Google Apps package.

Installation (first time/new users):

Open the GooManager application.
Navigate to psyke83 -> roms -> galaxy5.
Click on the build you wish to install from the list.
If needed, click the Download Gapps button to download the Google Apps package. The most recent (and most suitable) version will always be selected for you automatically.
Click on the Download button to download the rom.
Once the download(s) are complete, reboot into recovery and install the update package, followed by the Google Apps package.
Important: if you are updating from a stock or custom ROM, choose the data wipe option before rebooting.

New method keeps the g5sensord daemon running at all times, but it will now sleep or poll sensors based on a signal sent from libsensors. - Various improvements to libaudio: updated to Adriano Carrata's rewritten libaudio code (with my Samsung customizations re-added), added user-adjustable audio attenuation (disabled by default - see post #2), implemented Samsung's proprietary snd_set_extamp ioctl to improve audio quality, reduce in-call volume on headsets & fix FM radio background hiss.
- Updated kernel with KSM (Kernel Samepage Merging) support - disabled by default, see madconfig documentation in post #2 for details.

- New wifi driver + firmware (3.0.70.23, from Samsung Gio Froyo system image). This wifi driver is more recent than our official source, has better mmc power management code, and appears to be more stable. The minimum CPU frequency also set to 122Mhz (really). This frequency usually caused sleep of death issues, but this new driver may be immune.
- Various patches for memory leaks and minor bugs from gerrit.
- Updated sensor daemon (g5sensord) to latest revision (v3.1) - adds calibration data persistence, calibrated data and magnetic z-axis, saving of hard and soft iron calibration data. Should fix the Google Sky sensor issue. Thanks OuNao!
- Enable setup_fs tool by default. This tool will check /data and /cache on each boot, ensuring that they are formatted properly as ext4 filesystems. If not, the partitions will be formatted automatically. This should make upgrading from Froyo more painless, and also fixes a common issue in which /cache corrupts randomly (perhaps due to unclean dismounts when the phone is not rebooted properly).
- GooManager support now working correctly, which allows for future OTA updates.

20120317 [v2.2]
- Hotfix 1: changed kernel config (to test for battery improvements), re-enabled WOW suspend in wifi driver

- Cherry-picked various patches from gerrit to fix issues with core binaries/libraries (dalvik, bionic, zlib, etc.).
- Kernel: updated europa-battery, pmem, fsa9280, android staging drivers.
- Kernel: reduce minimum CPU scaling frequency to 122Mhz (to see if sleep of death occurs with the new wireless driver).
- Wifi: using AR6kSDK.3.0_RC.298 source with patches to allow usage of Samsung's firmware blobs, disable WoW (Wake on Wlan), and fix a certain case in which the driver blocks suspend. Note: the newest driver from freescale (AR6kSDK.3.1_RC.563) is not stable with our phone. This can't be fixed easily, as the problem appears to be within the new proprietary firmware blobs, which is something I can't fix. In the meantime, this driver should work well (and hopefully without any sleep of death issue).
- dhcpcd: patches to optimize dhcp requests for Atheros AR6003. This improves connection/reconnection speed and reliability.
- libhardware_legacy: increase wifi loader timeout from 1 second to 5 seconds. This ensures that the wireless driver is given time to settle before the first scan occurs.
- wpa_supplicant_6: wait for control interface monitor to be brought up before starting. Improves reliability of wireless when reconnecting from idle.
- libaudio: fix for minimum in-call volume being incorrectly muted in certain cases (including on speakerphone); fix FM audio when using no-microphone headphones.
- Switched to OuNao's open libsensors - completely fixes accelerometer lag.
- Switched to "g5sensord", Ounao's open memsicd replacement based on freescale's eCompass code - more battery efficient than proprietary memsicd daemon.
- GPS: use worldwide SUPL server by default. Initial reports indicate that people are having better connectivity with this setup overall.
- Compcache: back to 18%.
- ADWLauncher: lock action buttons by default (helps avoid cases in which users accidentally detach the icons for these buttons).

8. Kalo sudah muncul lalu tekan Start pada Odin tunggu kira-kira 5 menitan prosesnya sampai muncul PASS pada odin.

Cherry-picked various patches from gerrit to fix issues with core binaries/libraries (dalvik, bionic, zlib, etc.).
Kernel: updated europa-battery, pmem, fsa9280, android staging drivers.
Kernel: reduce minimum CPU scaling frequency to 122Mhz (to see if sleep of death occurs with the new wireless driver).
Wifi: using AR6kSDK.3.0_RC.298 source with patches to allow usage of Samsung’s firmware blobs, disable WoW (Wake on Wlan), and fix a certain case in which the driver blocks suspend. Note: the newest driver from freescale (AR6kSDK.3.1_RC.563) is not stable with our phone. wpa_supplicant_6: wait for control interface monitor to be brought up before starting. Improves reliability of wireless when reconnecting from idle.
libaudio: fix for minimum in-call volume being incorrectly muted in certain cases (including on speakerphone); fix FM audio when using no-microphone headphones.
Switched to OuNao’s open libsensors – completely fixes accelerometer lag.
Switched to “g5sensord”, Ounao’s open memsicd replacement based on freescale’s eCompass code – more battery efficient than proprietary memsicd daemon.
GPS: use worldwide SUPL server by default. Initial reports indicate that people are having better connectivity with this setup overall.
Compcache: back to 18%.
ADWLauncher: lock action buttons by default (helps avoid cases in which users accidentally detach the icons for these buttons).
Change scrolling cache setting to further improve scrolling speed.
Disable automatic brightness setting by default. Our phone has no light sensor, and I suspect that the software implementation may be causing battery drain.

Goggle adsense is of two types: 'content adsense' and 'search engine adsense'. In the content adsense, small ads labeled as 'ads by Google' with appear on the side of the page. You get paid when your site visitor clicks on any of those ads. In 'search engine adsense', Google search engine will appear on your site. If your site visitor conducts a search using that and then clicks on any of the sponsored adsense ad which appears in the search results, you get paid for that click.
Procedure for using Google adsense:
1. You can sign up for free by visiting: www.google.com/adsense
2. Check up with their program policies. If it is compatible with you then fill their online form. Check your e-mail, as you will be asked to confirm your e-mail address. Within 2-3 days you will receive an e-mail confirming your registration.
3. Then you can log in your account in order to obtain an HTML code generated for you by Google adsense.
4. Put this code on your website. This code will generate ads on your site which will be labeled as 'ads by Google' or a Google search engine or both depending on the option you have chosen while filling the form
5. You can choose the type of ads you want to display on your website to certain extent. For e.g.: You can prevent your competitor's ads from appearing on your site by setting up filters.
6. You can customize the appearance of the ads so that it matches your site by changing the background color, font size and type etc.
So if you currently own a blog or a website Google ad sense is a good way to earn some revenue. Google matches the keywords of your site with the keywords appearing in the sponsored ads. It then places the ads matching with the content of your site. Thus the visitors on your site act as a highly targeted audience for these ads. These are the very group of people who would be interested in these ads. Every time an 'ad by Google' is clicked by a visitor on your site, you earn a commission. The amount of commission you earn per click can vary from 0.05$ to 30 $ a click. Thus everyone benefits. For e.g.: Imagine a situation in which you sell flowers on your site and you have used the keywords as flowers and butterfly while optimizing your site. When you place Google adwords, ads dealing with butterflies may also appear on your site. People visiting your site are interested in buying flowers and not butterflies. Thus it is unlikely that they are going to click the ads dealing with butterflies. Thus in this case since your site is not well optimized, you don't get many clicks. 3. How much money the advertisers are paying Google for particular key words: There are certain key words which are very hot and competitive. They will earn you a lot of money.

MADTeam developer psyke83 has released new updated version of CyanogenMod ROM for G5 users. The new released version is CyanogenMod 7.2.0 v2.1. This version has OuNao’s libsensor code(which was closed source by Samsung and remade by OuNao from scratch) which completely fix Accelerometer lag. Big Thanks to OuNao! This release has updated kernel – merged Samsung source with Code Aurora kernel 2.6.32 (froyo_almond branch) with performance improvements.

Known issue: NONE.

Installation:
Note : If you are upgrading from an older CyanogenMod version, you always need to re-install the Google Apps package, even if you had previously installed it.

Reboot into ClockworkMod. You can do this via adb reboot recovery, or by choosing the Reboot -> Recovery menu if you are already using CyanogenMod.
If you are upgrading from Eclair or Froyo, you absolutely must perform a data wipe: Select wipe data/factory reset and confirm the operation. Note that you will lose all of your user data, so be sure that you have performed a backup. Otherwise, skip to the next step.
Choose the option install update from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard. You will see the two (or three) .zip files in the list.
