Muscling, gives a sort of gesture under painting of the character. It should help with making the topology more precise and as well as the proportions.

has been a while. Here is something worth sharing. He is Krampus a German/Austrian anti-santa who goes around on the 5th of December punishing the bad kids. I just decided he would make a great test for Zbrush's new "Fiber Mesh" I realize it has been over a year since I have put anything on here and I am not sure if that means I will start to post again now. I doubt it but thank you to those still interested in my work.

I made this monogram for my new website that I am working on. It is red now but that might change. I might have to play with that as I continue to work on my website. I used Illustrator to design it and I used photoshop layer affects to make it 3-D. Now you should be able to see in it my initials J-A-S but the three letters together will also form the A in the word Artist.

Been a while but I have been busy. I have had a job since early June writing for a newspaper. I like my job but between it and spending time with my wife there isn't much time for anything else. Now school is starting again so Maggie is busy so I can recommence my art work and posting about it. I have made some changes so everyone should take a few minutes to explore the new customized space. I have learned a lot about design from this blog and I soon am going to start a website with a similar purpose. Stay tuned for that.

A new line of models. Out of a need to make some money and still make 3d models I am going to try and make a simple model a day. I hope to be making more than one but the idea is that I will list my models on websites where people can buy them. Here is one of the first models. it is a candle holder that we have. I modeled it in a couple hours. The hardest part was the knotting around the base and collar.

This is the underpainting of a new painting I am doing. Though I will include an artist statement for this eventually here are a few words on this series I am starting now: The series is on Modern Ruins. Humans have built structures going back at least 50,000 years. In every part of the world we have erected something but in the end nature takes it all back. What is left after all this time however is what we call ruins. Some day what we have built in the Modern era will be gone. This series is commemorating these ruins of our time as they exist today.
This painting is of a rusted out car I found in the woods near my apartment in Minocqua WI.

An Amazon's shield. I designed the device for this shield myself. I used procedural textures to ding up the shield and I made a few different versions.

Just playing with Braiding. I can do different kinds of braids pretty easily and with fiber effects ti wouldn't take much to make some more complex hairstyles. It is kind of fun to play around with.

I made this today playing around with settings. I will try and make the land mass look better as well as inhance the background image. This is an idea for a Sci-fi scene I am going to work on. I am also going to start some oil paintings soon and when I get some drawings done I will post those.

Here it is my final demo reel. Over all I am happy with it. I had to make the video in imovie on my mac because I don't have any other video editing software right now. That said I think there are some themes that are very obviously imovie. For example the Ken Burns still image shots are very obvious but not over done. Anyway I should be sending this demo as well as my resume and cover letter out today, to Human Head in Madison Wisconsin.

Durring the long process of waiting for my demo reel scenes to finish I worked a little on a new project. This if you remember is based on a Photoshop painting I made. This Model isn't done yet put my goal is to not spend too much time on it. So far I worked on it yesterday and today.

Wine Label

I had to put a label on a bottle of wine. I made the Label myself. I chose my in laws little village for the name because it has such a vineyard name already. Anyway. The label is made from a photo manipulated in Photoshop. It turned out pretty well.

This is an image for my new class: digital imaging. It is basicly a Photoshop/Illustrator class. The assignment is sort of like one I had at Luther last year but I really didn't do all to great at it this time I used a picture I found on the internet of Neuschwanstein Castle and a picture that I took last year at Wyalusing State Park in Wisconsin. I used a light filter on it to make it look like twilight and to help make the pictures blend a little better. The coolest thing I discovered is by using the magic selection tool which selects things sort of magically I was able to place the foreground trees from the background in front of the castle. It's pretty cool because most of the time I can only ever get it to grab impossibly small areas or the whole image but by playing with the tolarance back and forth I was able to make larger selections. I know what I just said doesn't make anysense to anyone even those savvy to Photoshop but that is why I will fall back on what I just said. It works sort of magically

A year ago now I had an internship with Random Thoughts Entertainment, an online game company. Some of my work can be seen now in their latest release, Crossfire, Dungeons. It has been a while a guess. Some people have expressed longing for more of my work. Okay not really but I figured it was time I showed off this work that took up a few weeks of my life. My wife is a choir director and she has inherited a Madrigal dinner from her predecessor. She did a very good job and part of that was due to adding a play to the dinner. The play called for a Dead Dragon to be Dragged-in. This is my contribution to the dinner. The dinner was over a month ago but before I had a chance to take some photos it got stuck away in back stage to be used later for another project down the road. Here it is it is probably 8 feet long from end to end. It is made of foam liner for couch cushions. The tale is stuffed with cotton batting and the torso is framed with card board. The bottom has felt to make it silent when dragged. The Horns are made out of Paper mache. This was a fun project and I will have to do more prop work in the future. Anyway be sure to post on my blog what you think.
