Kanye West Reacts To 'Hottest MCs' Placement

2013-03-05T21:53:00.002-08:00

Kanye West broke his self-imposed media blackout on Tuesday night (February 5) after discovering that MTV's Hip-Hop Brain Trust had voted him our #7 Hottest MC in the Game. In one of the more heated roundtable split-votes in recent memory, 'Ye was bested for the #6 slot by his G.O.O.D. protégé Big Sean. West called Hot 97's DJ Enuff, telling the New York radio staple in a phone call that "more than anything, I'm happy for Sean." Still, the Chicago rapper took issue with his placement on the power ranking, admitting, "Yeah, #7 bothers me."

I don't know, it's definitely not based on a body of work. It possibly could just be like overall rap-MC-swag, you know what I'm saying? Sean is a great rapper, period; it checks all the boxes. What happens is with these types of things ... as soon as you come in like, I had the pink Polo and the backpack, then I'm checking all the boxes of that Tribe Called Quest era and J Dilla and all that, So they wanna champion it," Kanye theorized about the panel's supposed hip-hop purist bent. "They don't like 'Givenchy Kanye,' they don't like Kanye in a kilt, they don't like Kanye in a relationship." "I don't think it's them really going bar-for-bar: I said, 'Lucky I didn't have Jay drop him from the team!' " he said, quoting a line from his track "Cold," which alluded to his girlfriend Kim Kardashian's short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries, who now plays for minority owner Jay's Brooklyn Nets. "Ain't no bar, ain't no bar in the entire past four months hotter than that bar. That's one bar! I come from this battle rap; that's how I grew up. I'm from Chicago." The press-shy rapper paused for a moment before revealing a previously unknown — and so bizarre it became a worldwide Twitter trend tonight — connection to Sway. "I gave Sway his first TV, man. He came over my crib in Newark, New Jersey," 'Ye explained of his early years living in the Garden state while he crafted beats for Hov and Roc-A-Fella artists like Beanie Sigel. "I was getting a new TV and I gave Sway his first TV." With that revelation, West seemed to catch himself, telling Enuff, "I didn't want to even call to talk about this #7 list, I just wanted to tell everybody I gave Sway his first TV — and he need to remember that" before the phone went dead. What do you think of the list? Read the full list of Hottest MCs and sound off on MTV News' "Hottest MCs in the Game VIII" using the hashtag #HottestMC!

Iron Man 3' Trailer Blasts Off: Watch Now

2013-03-05T21:49:00.003-08:00

If you thought Tony Stark was going to sweet-talk his way out of his next adventure ... well, you're probably right. But the wittiest superhero of them all will have to come up with all-new wise-cracks if he's to stand a chance at toppling his deadliest adversary to date: The Mandarin.

A brand-new trailer for "Iron Man 3," directed by Shane Black and starring Robert Downey Jr., hit the web Tuesday (March 5) with all of the armored action we've come to expect from Marvel Studios' key franchise. It's just the latest look at the latest journey for the billionaire playboy philanthropist, but it's also the most detailed look of them all — thanks in large to the arrival of some suits of armor that comic book fans have been dying to see for years and years. "I'm Tony Stark. I build neat stuff. I got a great girl. And occasionally I save the world," Stark says as the trailer opens. "So why can't I sleep?" The answer to that question, it seems, starts with an "M." The front half of the trailer devotes much of its time establishing the Mandarin as a dangerous force who is terrorizing the world at large. We see the president of the United States calling the ring-clad villain out directly, promising, "I will defend this country at all costs. The Mandarin must be stopped!" But he won't be stopped so easily. The Mandarin's voice groans, "You don't know who I am. You'll never see me coming." And his threats are directed specifically at Tony, for reasons currently unknown. "Mr. Stark, today is the first day of what's left of your life," he warns. "I'm going to offer the choice: do you want an empty life, or a meaningful death?" As a result, the world is watching for Stark's reaction to the Mandarin's devastation, leading the superhero to make a solemn promise: "You're not a man. You're nothing more than a maniac. I'm not afraid of you. No politics here: just good old fashioned revenge." The remainder of the trailer is dedicated to much of what we've seen before — Stark's seaside home destroyed, the hero going on the run — but with tantalizing new details, including how Tony's new suit forms around him faster than ever before. The money shot comes at the end of the trailer when Tony and his old pal Rhodey agree on a course of action: they need back-up. To that end, a veritable army of armors show up to back Tony up, including the long-awaited Hulkbuster armor; as comic book fans know, it's a suit designed specifically to take down Tony Stark's big, green pal when he gets too angry. Is it a sign that Mark Ruffalo might appear in "Iron Man 3" after all? We can certainly hope! Co-starring Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rebecca Hall, "Iron Man 3" blasts off into theaters on May 3, 2013. What did you think of the latest "Iron Man 3" trailer? Which of the new armors was your favorite? Tell us in the comments below or hit me up on Twitter @roundhoward!
